now while im on the topic, ostaros was kinda creepy lookin before his springer upgrade. like i know the design goal here was clearly to make him look innocent and childlike but bc there are no actual children in the tf universe roche had to work with adult proportions in an adult stature and like. he did his best certainly but. i mean this is a frame only a mother (tarantulas, obviously) could love…

@oldboyjensenhinglemeier has written a story titled Overture of The Wreckers: First Movement for this year's @tf-bigbang, featuring well-known characters like little Kouros (Springer) as seen above and a dysfunctional team that will become the Wreckers.
Please go check out Jensen's story!

The whole thing with Tarantulas being in Earthspark mostly has to do with the writers liking The Wreckers' comic (which brings up some interesting things especially when it comes to Prowl, who's going to be in season 2). I also have to note that I think Tarantulas stated he was underappreciated among the Decepticons, which seems rather interesting given the IDW notes that Earthspark seems to be pulling from (ie the whole alt mode discrimination/caste system thing, especially with how those with beast alt modes where treated).
You're right, and I can feel it in my bones that we're going to get more earthspark Tarantulas episodes next season
Plus I see possible interesting future interactions to between Tarantulas and various autobots/decepticons (Possible Shockwave and Tara interactions???) especially considering what Bumblebee had to say about him
I suspect that Tara's going to be quite an interesting character moving forward and this isn't the last we'll see of him. ESPECIALLY if we get more of his backstory. I will lose my shit (affectionate) if we get an Ostaros/Springer reference

In a Nightshade and Ostaros are Taraprowl's children/are siblings au, they would definitely sing Yakko's Nations of the World but with war crimes their parents committed.

Mesothulas & Ostaros/Springer but Meso is an even tinier bike and Spring has a dragonfly alt instead of a heli
From the TF Umbra AU I poke time to time where Mesothulas was a Decepticon-turned-neutral who ran off with baby Spring and raised him in the wilderness
Yeah lol

Hello! Thought just entered my mind: Meso calls baby Ostaros “Ozzy” or “Oz”.
Lol aw! If only it were true. But Mesothulas doesn’t shorten or diminish names; he sets far too much store in their talismanic properties. And besides, he has great things planned for Ostaros— things an Ozzy couldn’t do.
It was Prowl who attempted “Ozzy” once, in a rare and effortful show of paternal familiarity, and was met with judgemental stares from Mesothulas and baby alike.

god we do make a lot of jokes about tarantulas bc he’s a silly little goofy guy but his “i can’t be apart from—!” line as he’s thrown into the noisemaze and away from ostaros— his last cries not a plea to be spared the million years of relentless mental torture, but to be spared the pain of separation from his son…
i am dealt physical and psychological anguish

Ok but like- prewar Mesoprowl au where I just throw out their canon meetup and make my own separate universe.
Prowl and Mesothulas met through one of Prowl’s friends and a classmate of Meso’s, the outlier Damus. The thing is, Damus had no intention of introducing them, and he frankly hated how weird and sometimes creepy he’d get with Prowl. For some reason or another, Prowl actually liked this guy though, so Damus kept his mouth shut about it.
Fast forward to their frankly strange way of living together and Meso reveals he made a baby as a surprise. Prowl is stunned and he doesn’t feel right about it since Meso never asked him if he wanted a child, he just decided without consulting Prowl at all. Despite that, Prowl stayed with him and tried to help raise baby Ostaros (the name was of course Meso’s idea) as best as he could while he was trying to pass his police academy training.
The final straw came when Mesothulas unveiled his creation that he called the Noisemaze. That was just too much for Prowl, and one night he took Ostaros and fled his home all the way to his good friend’s house. Damus had risen concerns about his classmate before, but Prowl had told him everything was fine. He felt really guilty about brushing him off when he finally left. Damus gave him a place to stay in his own home and voluntarily took baby Ostaros and dropped him off at an orphanage, so he could have a chance at a loving family better suited to raise him. Prowl did love his son, but he knew that he lacked the maturity and the capacity to provide his child with the guidance he needed, and so he made the hard decision to give him up for adoption.
He wouldn’t come into contact with Mesothulas again for some time, until this strange spinner creature kidnapped him and held him hostage, only to reveal himself as a mutated version of Mesothulas. This version of him is based off of Elita One from Animated, and he has her power to be able to use other people’s outlier abilities with a single touch. Unfortunately, his mutation not only turned him into a half organic, but he’d slowly been succumbing to the more cannibalistic nature of spiders with both a lack of food and the organic mutation in his CNA.
He ate Prowl’s eye is what I’m saying.
This new entity renamed himself Tarantulas, a mad scientist with a thirst for his own blood. His hands and spider appendages can be used to take the powers of another, as well as being able to inject venom into victims. His true horrific ability is behind his woven silk mask he made to cover his face. His mouth, with a single deep bite, could inject his mutation into another mech, turning them into a monstrous spider creature, just like himself.
Anyway, Imma go to bed now, bye. ✌️

Fic idea were after multiple failed attempts to prevent the war by traveling back in time, on Springer’s last jump the timemaze breaks and leaves him stranded. With seemingly no other choice, he must seek out the original creator of the timemaze, Tarantulas, to recreate it. Right now in the current timeline Tarantulas is still known as Mesothulas and has yet to be thrown into the noisemaze. Springer figures he can work with this and convince Tarant- scratch that, Mesothulas, to help him. However upon his arrival he is greeted by the sight of Impactor’s ship and realizes that he’s too late and Meso is already being deal with. Lacking time or options, Springer ambushes Impactor and steals the suit needed to pass Meso’s radioactive moat, off of him.
He then retrieves his own past self, which is an admittedly eerie experience, and rescues Meso from the noisemaze. Springer sets up base at an abandoned wrecker hideout. When Meso finally comes to, he is immediately hostile towards Springer once realizing that it’s not prowl in the suit (which springer continues to wear to keep his true identity a secret) and demands answers for various rapid fire questions such as: “Where’s Ostaros? Where’s Prowl? Who are you? Where am I?”.
Becoming even more visibly agitated when Springer refuses to give him any straight answers. Meso only calms down and start to co-operate, when springer brings out Ostaros. Who is smiling without a care and seems quite happy to be here.
From there, Meso enters into an uneasy agreement to build whatever it is this stranger wants so badly, in order to ensure the safety of him and his son. All while fully intending to just find a way to murder him first and then escape with Ostaros of course.
Like a puzzle, Springer is only giving small and vague pieces of the machine that he wants meso to rebuild. In hopes that this will keep him from figuring out what Springer wants and learning how to create time travel. Meanwhile Prowl is at his wit’s end trying to find out where Mesothulas and Ostaros are now, and also the identity of the mysterious bot who took them.

There are two cool options,
1. Prowl is dead and we get Mesothulas/Tarantulas telling Ostaros about his dead parent, and Mesothulas holding on to his dead and gray frame
2. Or Mesothulas/Tarantulas is trying to bring Prowl back without a body and he's raising Ostaros. Then Prowl shows up a lot layter and he's like "Mesothulas wtf"
Option one gives us a significant amount of angst but I like option two because a reunion would be so fascinating
