Othonna retrofracta

Othonna is a genus in the Asteraceae (the Daisy Family), with most of the species found in the winter-rainfall region of southern Africa. A lot of them are miniatures with delightfully swollen stems, sometimes with peeling bark. This one is one of the more widespread species, found in southern Namibia and in northwestern South Africa. It leafs out in the fall, flowers in the winter, and goes dormant during the summer months.

Othonna retrofracta

Othonna is a genus in the Asteraceae (the Daisy Family), with most of the species being winter-growers from western South Africa and southern Namibia. O. retrofracta occurs in both countries, and is notable for its swollen miniature trunk, with peeling bark. It remains leafless all summer, with the new leaves coming in fall, followed by the little yellow flower clusters.
