Verse, o antagonista de The King of Fighters XIV, é outro exemplo de vilão mal-elaborado. The King of Fighters XIV.

I originally posted this on Deviant Art. Wonder if Tumblr has a big KOF fanbase here.
I know that it's less than likely a KOF game would have a roster this big, but I just want all of this characters in a game in some way shape and form. I'd also like 16 to be to continuation of the Shun'ei Saga unlike the rumors suggest (two games isn't enough to get behind him or Meitenkun). I'd also like it to give the rest of the cast good stories as well unlike how sometimes characters show up to just be there. So, I'd like to imagine SNK would continue a lot of the plot lines they had established since 14, hell even earlier.
Team Hero: Shun'ei, Isla, Meitenkun
Story: After their victory in the previous tournament and defeating Otoma=Raga, Shun'ei and Meitenkun decided to travel the world without fear of losing control of their powers. While on their travels they grew a strong love for the different customs, food, and art from all different corners of the world. Now with a better understanding of what they're fighting for, Shun'ei and Meitenkun swear to hone their skills for whenever the world's in danger again and sign up for the next KOF tournament. Little did either of the boys know, Isla had been following them since Shun'ei saved her in the last tournament. When she heard they had signed up for KOF, she demanded to join their team and refused to explain why she had been following them. With both Amplified Specters working together, Meitenkun believes he has to make his fighting style more serious to stand along side them.
Team Rival: Kukri, Dolores, Xanadu
Story: After Dolores had gotten Isla's Amp powers to reveal the existence of beings like Otoma=Raga, she returned to her home country with Kukri in the hopes to retire. However, she and Kukri would soon sense a third awakening of an Amplified Specter. Unlike how Verse and Re-Verse had created paradoxes in life and death as well as time and space, this third specter appeared to create a misbalance in the concepts of chaos and order. Desperate to stop this, Dolores and Kukri turn to an unexpected ally, Xanadu. As it turns out, Xanadu had not been a simple jibbering madman in prison, but was actually the former teacher of Dolores and had been warning everyone about "The End Times." The three join forces to see what this what this final Amp will do while Kukri plans to simply kick Xanadu back in prison afterwards.
Team Japan: Kyo Kusanagi, Benimaru Nikaido, Goro Daimon
Story: After his fight with Iori, Kyo was glad to put his Orochi stopping duties on hold to catch back up with his friends, family, and his girlfriend Yuki. However, another year and a new KOF tournament is announced and Kyo is horrified to see that Team Orochi had reawakened their Orochi powers. Unable to get in contact with Chizuru and unwilling to work with Iori again, Kyo once again turns to his partners Benimaru and Goro. Benimaru was happy to help. After all, he no longer has to look out for Shun'ei and Meitenkun, plus he can rub saving the universe and yet another KOF win in Kyo's face. Goro was also happy to help, although he seemed more interested in telling the others how much his son has grown in age and in his judo skills.
Team Iori: Iori Yagami, Leona Heidern, Adelheid Bernstein
Story: After his fight with Kyo, Iori was ready to simply go back to play his music after so many years. Unfortunately, it was only a few months later when he received news that Team Orochi had ambushed and hospitalized Chizuru. As much as he hated to do it, Iori agreed to take part in KOF to take down Team Orochi and stop them from resurrecting their god. He was ready to be a solo combatant, but he was approached by two unexpected allies, Leona Heidern and Adelheid Bernstein. Leona explains that she had confronted her real father and learned about her family's history as Orochi followers. She vows to destroy all traces of the Orochi bloodline. Adelheid explains he had become curious about how the Orochi power corrupted his father so deeply, and wishes to learn more about what Orochi's true nature is. With two new teammates, Iori heads into KOF with death on his mind.
Team Fatal Fury: Terry Bogard, Mai Shiranui, Joe Higashi
Story: Terry Bogard was normally interested in KOF for the chance to fight strong opponents and occasionally stop some big threat, but things were personal this time. Geese Howard had returned and his grip on Southtown was tighter than ever. Terry knows he must stop Geese again, but he becomes even more frightened when he hears Geese is searching for his son, Rock. With Andy off training with his new pupil, Terry requests Mai to join him and Joe in KOF which she agrees to, both for the sake of her beloved Andy but also just to get away from Athena. Joe has a more serious outlook on the tournament as well, as he both wishes to stop Geese for good on top of getting Billy Kane out of the way of his romance with Lily Kane.
Team Art of Fighting: Ryo Sakazaki, Marco Rodrigues, Yuri Sakazaki
Story: Ryo has finally found his calling. After two years of being disillusioned with his family's business, Ryo has finally taken control over the Kyokugen dojo under his father's old moniker "Mr. Karate." With a more serious outlook, Ryo finally allows his pupil, Marco Rodrigues, to join his team for KOF. With Takuma happily retired and Robert busy working on his family's business, Yuri rejoins her brother's team to support Ryo's new attitude as well as getting away from Athena.
Team Ikari Warriors: Whip, Ralf Jones, Clark Still
Story: Heidern was in the middle of researching the new Amplified Specter when Ralf and Clark returned to base. He was surprised when they reported Leona had ran off after meeting her real father. While he trusted his adopted daughter to make the right decision, he still couldn't help but worry. As such, he sends out Ralf, Clark, and Whip out to both keep an eye out for the next Amp but also find Leona. He places Whip in charge of the mission and while she is unsure she is ready to be a leader, Heidern knows she will be fine with Ralf and Clark by her side.
Team K': K', Kula Diamond, Maxima
Story: Having finally gotten Kula in a good mood, K' was ready to get back to taking down the remains of NESTS. When trashing yet another NESTS base, Maxima gives horrifying news. The leader of NESTS, Igniz, was back and more dangerous than ever. K' is annoyed to find he'd have to take part in KOF again just to take down NESTS new super weapon, but Kula guilt trips him by saying she'll run away with Krohen and Angèl again if he doesn't join. K' reluctantly accepts to join KOF with Maxima assuring this time may finally be the last.
Team Ash: Ash Crimson, Elisabeth Blanctorche, Najd
Story: Ash Crimson was living the simple life. He was happy to lay down in the garden with Elisabeth for the rest of his days, but fate had other plans. Elisabeth had been informed of yet another Amplified Specter had appeared. Knowing how Ash's time paradox had caused these to pop up and nearly tear reality apart, he agreed to join her in saving the world again. Unfortunately for Ash, he couldn't get Duo Lon, Shen Woo, Oswald, or even Kukri to join them. As such, Elisabeth turned to a mysterious vigilante named Najd to join them.
Team Psycho Soldiers: Athena Asamiya, Sie Kensou, Chin Gentsai
Story: After her attempt of starting a circus show with Yuri and Mai ended with both of them running off, Athena returned to her Psycho Soldiers to find new inspiration for a show. However, her plans changed when she heard upsetting news from Chin, Kensou's dragon powers were acting up again. Knowing how Kensou's powers would gather attention from sinister forces, Athena agreed to help protect her long time friend from harm. While Kensou would normally be thrilled to spend time with the love of his life, he had become obsessed with understanding his dragon powers and what it could mean for his future.
Team Super Heroines: King, Blue Mary, Hinako Shijou
Story: After helping Ryo find a new purpose in life, King began to question her own purpose. She knew she had feelings for him, but she also knew she wanted to do something more than just follow Ryo for the rest of her days. While on her new search for a purpose, King was approached by Blue Mary. Apparently, Blue Mary had taken on a new assignment which involved acting as a bodyguard for the young, sumo obsessed Hinako. Hinako had gotten involved in the illegal gambling side of the sumo world and was desperate to escape from it. Feeling the need to protect this young girl, King agreed to help Mary and Hinako.
Team Garuo: Rock Howard, Hotaru Futaba, Tizoc
Story: Rock Howard was slowly getting used to the idea of working on a team for the KOF tournament, but he wasn't too thrilled about his teammates. B. Jenet was a lot of energy to keep up with and very greedy while Gato was cold and distant. After both of his teammates ditched him, Rock searched for new partners. He was approached by Hotaru, sister of Gato. She had been searching for her brother and was desperate to stop his quest for revenge. Rock agreed to help her search for Gato, secretly glad to have a girl teammate he could actual stand talking to. Just as he expressed the need for a second partner, the previously "missing" wrestler Tizoc emerged from the shadows, expressing his desire to help both Rock in KOF as well as Hotaru's search for her brother. Little does Rock know, there's a more sinister force following him.
Team Assassins: Duo Lon, Xiao Lon, Lin
Story: Upon learning that Ron had finally emerged from hiding, Duo Lon was ready to finally hunt down and kill his father for betraying the Hizoku clan. While he had to decline Ash's request for help, Duo knew how dangerous Ron truly was. Joined by his half sister, Xiao Lon as well as fellow Hizoku assassin Lin, Duo Lon was prepared to finally put an end to Ron once and for all.
Team Shen: Shen Woo, Gai Tendo, Antonov
Story: Shen Woo was dying for a fight. It had been too long since his last KOF tournament and he longed for the actual challengers the tournament gathered every year as opposed to the street punks he had been fighting in China. Ready to form his own team, Shen recruited Gai Tendo, a MMA prodigy with the same fiery spirit Shen had. Antonov had also agreed to join Shen's team, although the former KOF champion tried to play it off as if he was the true team leader. Just as Shen signed his team up for KOF, he had gotten a call from Ash asking for help to fight a threat. Shen unfortunately tells his friend he was already caught up in the tournament, but agreed to keep an eye out for anything suspicious.
Team Secret Agents: Vanessa, Seth, Oswald
Story: Vanessa had been caught up in a few different investigations at the same time. She had been investigating the Amplified Specters by request of Heidern, she was also been tracking Team Orochi, NESTS, as well as searching for Luong and Hein in the hopes of discovering just what they were planning outside of just offing Geese Howard. She turns to her old colleague Seth in the hopes of getting all these investigations done soon, but she would also be joined by the mysterious Oswald. While his demeanor is professional and respectful, Vanessa and Seth knew he was an assassin, and worried if his loyalty could be bought away.
Team Southtown: Geese Howard, Billy Kane, Raiden
Story: Geese Howard and Billy Kane were able to fend off assassination attempts from Hein and Yamazaki before returning to business. Their grip over Southtown tightened as Geese took control of the drug and weapon rings as well as sending Billy out to keep other gangs loyal by force. However, Geese's attention shifted when he heard reports of his son Rock training with his sworn enemy, Terry Bogard. Billy suggests maybe Rock could be persuaded to join his father which Geese is willing to humor. He recruits a former associate of his, the Australian masked wrestler Raiden, to join his team in KOF to track down his son and finally kill Terry Bogard.
Team Anti-Kyokugen: Eiji Kisaragi, Sinclair, Kasumi Todoh
Story: Eiji Kisaragi had been in hiding for years watching every single one of his enemies grow in power and recognition. The Sakazaki's had grown their dojo into a family business with a restaurant. Iori Yagami had defeated several world threatening entities. When he heard Ryo Sakazaki had named himself Mr. Karate, Eiji had finally had enough of his foes' arrogance. He left the shadows to enter KOF once again to finally prove himself the greatest. He once again turns to his old ally, Kasumi Todoh, but he also recruits another old foe of the Sakazakis, Sinclair. Together, the three swear to lay waste to their enemies.
Team Orochi: Orochi Yashiro, Orochi Shermi, Orochi Chris
Story: While Yashiro, Shermi, and Chris weren't able to get revenge on Team Sacred Treasures in the previous tournament like they had planned, they did get fairly far into the tournament and were able to gather enough battle energy to reawaken their Orochi powers. With their powers reawakened, Team Orochi ambush Chizuru and hospitalize her. With her out of the way, they successful crippled the Sacred Treasures as they knew Kyo and Iori wouldn't be willing to work together without her. With that, they can finally focus on reawakening their god. Once they win KOF, no one will be safe.
Team NESTS: Nameless, Krizalid, Original Zero
Story: When Verse was destroyed, many of NESTS highest ranking members returned from the dead, including the Original Zero, Krizalid, and their leader, Igniz. Desperate to reestablish NESTS as the all-encompassing organization it had been years ago, Igniz took control of an old, abandoned NESTS base to restart their research. There, Igniz finally created what he called "the ultimate weapon." This was the genetically engineered warrior only referred to as Nameless. Igniz sends Krizalid and Zero to accompany Nameless into KOF to hunt down and kill all of NESTS enemies, starting with K', Maxima, and Kula Diamond.
Team Outlaws: Luong, Hein, B. Jenet
Story: Hein's plan to assassinate Geese Howard had failed and Luong was unable to steal the real Sage's Eye. The two of them were forced to go into hiding to think of a new plan to get what they will do next. They decided they would manipulate their old allies, the secret agents, Kim's family, the Amplified Specters, as well as the chaos of groups like NESTS and the Hakkesshu to overwhelm Geese until they go for the kill. They recruit self-proclaimed pirate B. Jenet to act as their third member for the tournament with a promise of money gaining her loyalty.
Team Villains: Ron, Freeman, Silber
Story: Ron had remained in hiding long enough. The dragon souls had built up quite a bit over the years, but the appearance of the Amplified Specters caught his attention as well. With a desire to make these strange powers his own, Ron joins the KOF tournament to capture Kensou, Shun'ei, and Isla as well as finally disposing of his old Hizoku followers. He recruits British serial killer Freeman and martial arts madman Silber to join him. Neither could care less about Ron's plan. Freeman was content to keep killing people while Silber was just willing to fight any foe that seemed like a challenge for him. Little do either know, once Ron accomplishes his goal, he will dispose of both of them.

A team-up that I kinda hope happens in the next canonical KOF game
Dolores: "Kukri."
Kukri: "...what is it, Teach?"
Dolores: "I sense a looming darkness on the horizon... bigger than even Otoma=Raga. And the two of us, along with the Amplified Specters, may not be enough to avert this pending doom."
Kukri: "So what, exactly, do you suggest?"
Dolores: "...we will need another to help us. Even if it means... bringing that person out of exile."
Kukri: "...You're not suggesting who I think you're suggesting."
Dolores: "Yes... Xanadu."
Kukri: "I can't believe you're seriously contemplating bringing that freak into this..."
Dolores: "Neither can I. But... we have no choice."
[Later, Kukri and Dolores head towards the prison Xanadu is housed in, and breaks him out of his cell. Xanadu, seemingly no worse for wear, quietly walks towards the two, having known beforehand of their arrival and request for help from his future visions.]
Xanadu: [to Dolores] "Are you in charge here?"
Dolores:
Kukri:
Dolores: "...I—"
Xanadu: "NO."
Kukri:
Dolores:
Dolores: "...I was—"
Xanadu: "WRONG."
Dolores:
Dolores: [sigh] "...You are—"
Xanadu: "I'M IN CHARGE."
Dolores:
Kukri:
Xanadu: "You've come to me for help... therefore, you will do as I say, when I say."
Dolores:
Kukri: [quietly seething]
Xanadu: "Allow me to clarify... In a sequentially ranked hierarchy based on a level of critical importance, the disparity between us is too vast to quantify."
Xanadu: [turns head to a random inmate follower of his] "Inmate?"
Random Inmate: "Our Leader thinks you two are basic."
Kukri: [angrily at Xanadu] "Listen smartass, we didn't bust our asses to break your sorry ass out of jail, just so you could boss us arou—"
Xanadu: "I'm sorry, who were you again?"
Kukri: "I am—"
Xanadu: "NOBODY CARES!"
