hi, I'm kaykay! welcome to my little blog corner of the world where (most) characters get their happy ending, no matter how the writers left them. I'm an avid reader, hopeful writer and love TV shows, movies and books with all my heart.

Story behind my username:

I've always used the word "endgame" when talking about fictional couples (and sometimes real ones)

To me, endgame means forever. And no matter what their storylines are, my OTPs are endgame to me. Nothing will ever change that.

Your endgame(s) might be different than mine. That's okay. As long as your favourite couple(s) are endgame to you, forever is possible.

31: Why did you start to ship Cherik to begin with? I’d watched the X-Men cartoons for a brief period when I was a kid, and the original X-Men movies. I was too young to understand the concept of shipping or an OTP then, but I did find Xavier and Magneto’s friendship really interesting. But to be honest, I started shipping them because of the chemistry between Charles and Erik shared in xmfc (around 2013 when I watched the film) because it’s almost impossible to escape it. Though that's why I started shipping cherik, I'm still shipping it solely because of how well they fit together in every single way- physically, mentally and emotionally, and how well they complement each other- intellectually, philosophically and morally. 57: If you could manufacture any type of Cherik fan merch - what would it be? Do you know those twin magnets? I think they’re called singing magnets. So one would be Charles and the other would be Erik. And no matter how much you try to separate them, they’d always find their way back to each other. 65: Where and how would Cherik hold their wedding? They’d hold their wedding on a warm spring evening in the sprawling lawns of the mansion, surrounded by their students. Because really they’re their only family and don’t need anyone else. Darwin, Alex, Scott and a few of the younger kids build a flower arch awning and a podium at the head of a few decorated benches. There are white lilies everywhere because it’s Charles’ favourite flower and the green grass around them is speckled with white rose petals. Jean prepares a cake under Raven’s guidance. Sean and Jubilee take over the band for the reception, while Illyana and Raven take charge of the performances that come later. Hank apparently is an ordained minister (imagine that). Raven (even though she cannot boil water) along with the majority of the kids take the responsibility of the buffet spread after the reception. Raven jokes about walking Charles down the isle and giving him off to Erik, but in the end Erik decides against it. Charles and Erik walk hand in hand down the aisle as the sun sets dressed in a tuxedo and suit and a yarmulke respectively. Storm keeps the skies clear and a gentle breeze blowing across the lawns. They share their vows and exchange rings amidst tears and laughter. Erik smashes the glass. All the while their students- no their children clap and cheer in glee. The flower arch awning loses one of its pillars just as Charles and Erik are about to kiss. it wood would have hit Hank right on the head if Erik weren't holding it in place with the nails. It still manages to bruise Hank's shoulder. Even though Jean swears up and down that the cake is pineapple flavoured, all they can taste is vanilla. The flavour of the cake is hardly the problem when half of the icing over the cake is melted by the time they cut it. It ends up in the kids’ bellies less and on their faces more. The figure Kurt made to go on the cake looks less like Charles and Erik and more like blobs of dough. The wedding band isn't much of a success. Sean's singing is out of tune, and Angel and Illyana's dance performances un-coordinated. The champagne is severely watered down (90% of it, Erik's sure) for the fear of one of the kids consuming them, and it tastes more like sparkling water and less like expensive alcohol. The reception buffet spread is well... it’s safe to say that Charles will have to tip whoever is delivering their pizzas later that night heavily. But none of that matters when Charles is tucking his head under Erik's chin and dancing to a tune of their own. Their wedding is perfect despite all of that, because Charles and Erik are marrying each other in front of their children, and that’s all the happiness they need. All the children pitch in their share and gift Charles and Erik with a honeymoon for 3 days and 2 nights in a cabin upstate. All expenses paid for. Charles is initially reluctant to go because there needs to be an adult at the mansion at all times. Either Erik or him. But Raven swears up and down that they’re adults by now and that she, along with Hank, Darwin and Angel can take care of the other kids. She kisses him on the cheek and pushes him out of the huge door. 4 days later Charles and Erik return to the mansion to broken furniture and fractured bones and missing teeth. They both sigh to each other. Well, that’s what married life is all about. It's domesticity at it's best. >>Cherik Asks (Part 2)

Alex Danvers x fem!reader

You were watching a documentary about war remnants left by World War II in different “third world countries.” Just like a one-shot angst fic about your OTP you’ve read a thousand times, this documentary sucks you in—deep, and makes you want to continue relieving your college idealist self you’ve left behind some time ago. Back in NCU, you wanted to change the world and save the oppressed… but when you graduated, you were caught off-guard by the cruel face of reality. Suddenly, those plans of changing the world faded. You were stuck as some newspaper writer—broke, by the way—with a record of libel case under your name.

As you watched, with glimmering eyes, the old, ragged, black and white pictures being flashed in your TV, the door burst open. You jumped in surprise, higher than you’ll ever admit, and some popcorn spilled on the floor from the overflowing bowl. You turned around to check who just barged in and saw Alex Danvers with a pissed off look in her face.

You immediately placed the bowl of popcorn on the table and stood up, frown already marring your face. You swallowed the popcorn you just placed on your mouth, and then asked lightly, “What’s up?”

You felt relieved that your heart was calming down already.

“Why the fuck is your door not locked?” your best friend asked, and you can already see the angry lines getting more obvious on her face. The waves of anger raging from your best friend’s… presence were directed to you. You felt so lost because all you can think about was how she just went here to… scold you? Wasn’t she on a date?

“Um… because I’m inside?” you said slowly… confusion rising by the level as you stared at Alex’s pissed off form. The agent moved to close the door and proceeded on taking off her coat.

“I’ve told you a hundred times that you should lock the door. What if I’m some murderer? I could be murdering you right now—“

“Well, you’re not a murderer and you’re not murdering me right now. You’re my best friend and you can come in my apartment anytime. My locked door would have made me stand up—which I just did, thanks to you barging in here like some overly crazed person—and pause this incredibly heart-wrenching and mind-blowing documentary, just so I could open the door for you, your highness,” you rambled sarcastically, as you automatically went for your refrigerator and pulled out some beer.

Alex was already getting comfortable in your couch—where you were sitting a while ago—which was filled with thick blankets that made you feel like you’re in heaven.

“So… you came here just to bitch about my unlocked door…? Or, am I going to pry how your night went with a certain detective?” you asked, as you placed the opened beer bottles on the center table. You faced your best friend, having the chance to take her in. You can just imagine how your eyes turned into heart ones. Alex was breathtaking. You can’t help but envy Maggie Sawyer right now. The detective was living what you only had for a dream… at least you hope that she does know that.

“There was an emergency called by NCPD, so she had to leave early.” You watched as she drank the beer, clenching your jaw at the audacity of Maggie Sawyer to leave Lexie, on a date, alone… you would never do that even if it was your brought-back-to-life-by-Hades-because-the-god-despises-him-too editor calling. Well, you do know it is irrational to hold it over Maggie’s head (as the call was probably for the public’s safety) but, still. She left Alex alone.

“Explains why you had time to go here,” you said lightly. There was no bitterness in your tone, though your words came out flatly than you intended it to. You’ve felt neglected by your best friend these past few weeks she had been dating Maggie. Before, you’ve always had nights with Alex (because it’s the only time of the day the both of you possibly aren’t at work) at least four times a week. Now, it was reduced to sporadic once-a-week’s. You just kept your mouth shut, because you don’t know where you stand. There’s the feeling of needing to insert yourself because you’re the best friend, but there’s also the feeling of pulling back because you’re not the journalist sister, you’re just the journalist best friend.

It also doesn’t help that you’re the in-love best friend.

God, you hate yourself so much.

“Y/n…? Y/n, you still with me?” You refocused your unfocused eyes, and found Alex’s concerned ones staring right at you. You felt your eyes turn glassy, so you blinked the (possibly) tears away, and cleared your throat. You grabbed your bottle of beer and took large gulps. One thing that probably heavily grounds your friendship with Alex Danvers is alcohol. During game nights, you and Alex both dominate the available alcoholic drinks and still end up coherent enough to go home, or form syntactically—emphasis on just “syntactically”—correct sentences.

You slammed the beer harder than intended on your glass center table.

“Yeah, I am.” God, you need more.

You stood up, aware of Lexie’s eyes following your movements. You reached for the emergency bottle of (pure, as you specifically bought) tequila you had stored on your cupboard. ‘You’re loose lips, Y/n,’ you thought as you grabbed shot glasses. The glasses were just for show, since you had this great need to be loose lips and drink the entire bottle down to the last drop (which would more likely end up with you being pumped), and just tell Alex Danvers everything because Maggie Sawyer doesn’t deserve her because she left gorgeous Alex Danvers alone in their date night for some “NCPD emergency.”

“Sorry, I have like, a lot of things in my mind.” Case in point: the woman you’re talking to. “You know, article stuff,” you added, admittedly rather defensive. You filled the two shot glasses with tequila, not even bothering to ask Lexie if she wants one because you know she does because that’s how well you know her.

You pressed play on the documentary you were watching. The heavy silence masked the narrator’s voice, and you were extremely aware of Lexie’s restlessness, which you know means that she badly wants to say something. You have ignored your half consumed beer (and the now cold and indigestible popcorn), and turned on pouring yourself shot after shot of tequila. You should have followed yourself a while ago—go to bar after work.

“Are… are you okay, Y/n?” Alex finally asked. You tensed for a moment. Alex knows how much you resented that question… maybe that’s why she was so hesitant of asking you. You’ve always rambled on how it was futile to ask the question, especially if the one who asked only expects a yes or no answer. It’s much more than a simple yes or no to define if one’s okay or not.

You pressed pause once more and turned to her and smiled, finally feeling the effects of the (pure!) tequila you were drinking. Your lips were feeling numb (so you’re really half sure you’re smiling), and your tensed mind (as you so likely often describe it) was loosening up. You stared at Alex with half-lidded eyes. You have no idea why you suddenly felt drunk-hazy, as if you’ve drunk more than your limits. You looked at the tequila bottle and saw how it’s nearing empty. You frowned. Did it spill?

“I’ve only had a couple of shots… then you grabbed the bottle and basically fired shots… no difference if you’ve just drank from the bottle.” Lexie said, slightly amused. “You wanna tell me what’s going on?” You detected the shift in her tone, which was bordering concern.

Loose lips. Overly emotional. Not a good combination, especially when the pain caused by Maggie’s appearance in your life—more like in Lexie’s—is really doing a number on you. You stared at Lexie’s concerned eyes. You took a deep breath, wondering what to do or say next. With just pure instincts, your right hand moved to grab the bottle—you need to loosen up more.

“Hey, no. You’ve had enough.” Alex pried the bottle from your hands. She placed it on the floor, just slightly behind her then turned back to you. You nearly jumped off your skin when her soft hand grabbed yours, giving it a gentle squeeze.

“You’re watching documentaries, Y/n. You only watch them whenever something’s stressing you out. You drank that bottle of pure tequila as if it’s just water. You wanna tell me what’s going on?” You can’t help but let yourself give in on the appearing symptoms of crying. You’re already feeling hot, and Lexie’s smile just keeps flashing before your eyes… Lexie’s incredibly beautiful and perfect smile directed at Maggie Sawyer. You pursed your lips. Suddenly, there’s a growing anger forming inside you. You keep thinking why you hadn’t been good enough for Alex—for her to notice you. Why did it have to be Maggie? Why her? What freaking generous thing did she do for her to have the one person you’ve been praying for almost your whole life?

You suddenly felt a soft hand on your cheek. It was so comfortable, making your heart turn over and over again. When the thumb ran just below your eyes, you suddenly realized you were crying. You’re crying and Alex freaking Danvers, your best friend, was holding your hand and wiping your tears. Her eyes were full of concern and her face was so incredibly close. All you can think of is how beautiful she is and how she deserves the whole world. The forming anger was suddenly replaced by an onslaught of your love for this woman holding you.

You don’t know if it’s because of being soul-turning drunk that you suddenly can’t handle Lexie being an inch close to you. You’ve been at situations like this most of your life, but something changed right now. You can’t control yourself anymore when before, being with your best friend (since you realized you’re hopelessly in love with her) was all about control.

It was so comfortable, being this close. You taught of staying like this forever. As you stared at Lexie’s beautiful, concerned (for you) eyes, you can’t help but cry more over your missed chance of being with her. Your eyes shifted down and you can’t help but wonder how those lips were naturally pink and soft, while yours were pale and more often than not, slightly chapped. Then, with your screw-it mind taking over, you shook off Lexie’s hold on your hand. You placed both of your hands softly on her nape, and pulled her closer.

You can’t help but think that this is, indeed, the softest pair of lips you’ve ever had the chance of kissing. And you so badly want to kiss these pair of lips forever.

Ah yes… my Problematic Fave™

Favourite thing about them: How hot he is How much he loves Persephone. She is the only thing his stone-cold heart truly loves. He lives and breathes for her. Without her, he can’t go on. After all those years, after all those fights, it’s still her and no one else. It will always be her. It’s so tragically romantic.

Least favourite thing about them: Can I get “Unethical Exploitation of Labour” for 500 Alex?

Also the idea that he may have possibly perhaps slept with Eurydice which didn’t actually happen because my brain won’t allow the possibility of that happening.

Favourite line: I cannot overstate how much the line “Lover everything I do, I do it for the love of you, if you don’t even want my love I’ll give it to someone who does” made me DIE when I first heard it. Like the seduction… the veiled threat of infidelity…. the vulnerability double-edged with a showcase of power…. très sexié

Random headcanon: Hoo boy!!! I have an entire fleshed out Hades/Persephone backstory partially documented in a poorly written fic sitting in my drafts that’ll never see the light of day!! But I’ll say this: Hades is from a lower-middle class background. His dad, Chronos, was an abusive alcoholic. He always wanted to get Out of that hellhole of a home, go as far away as he possibly could, and make a life for himself. He spent his younger years in the shadows of his other brothers, always with a chip on his shoulder. He was broody and ambitious, not letting his lower class background get in the way of his dreams. He worked as a labourer at a myriad of different factories before he saved up enough money to buy Hadestown. It helps that real estate under the ground is dirt cheap ba dum tsssss! He’s new money, money borne of blood and sweat and tears (not all his), and although he’s accumulated All That Wealth, he will always feel like he’s Never Good Enough.

Unpopular opinion: Idk if this is unpopular or not but I believe that he is NOT the villain of Hadestown, and not a villain at all! :) Ok maybe that’s just my Villain Apologism shining through lol

Alex, andit leaves him devastated. He’s not always great at expressing him emotions, soespecially when you first start dating or when the two of you have an explosivefight stuff just come out wrong and his walls come up.

Probablyyou, because although Alex is a bad boy, he is and has always been Soft and isfragile on the inside

I feel likeAlex has broken a finger or his hand at some point in a fight, or his arm orleg when he was younger

I feel likeAlex knows little things to do just tick you off and annoy you (from his cockybad boy days), but in the midst of bad fights or rough periods you’d know whichbuttons to press better than he would, but you never purposely take it that far

who is most likely to apologise first after an argument?

Him. Alexis whipped and generally hates fighting with you, but also in some argumentsyou’re usually the one who’s right and will be able to carry the silenttreatment that follows forever if he’s doesn’t admit he was wrong. Sometimeswhen he feels petty for trivial things he’ll wait for you to apologize, but hegenerally will apologize first.

who treats who’s wounds more often?

You treat Alexwounds, especially in his bad boy days when he got into a lot fights. Even witholder Alex, the man is brave and never hesitates to throw himself in harm’s wayto save someone else so he ends up more beat up than you do.

who is in constant need of comfort?

You do. Thereis no better place in the world than Alex’s arms. Although, Alex may need morereassurance sometimes because he doesn’t think he deserves someone as great asyou and you have no problem reassuring him.

who gets more jealous?

oh myfucking lord Alex becomes a complete child when he’s jealous. He trusts youmore than anything, but he doesn’t trust other guys to keep their hands off youand has no trouble making sure that everyone knows your his.

who’s most likely to walk out on the other?

this onealways breaks my heart and i just have angst circling around in my head when isee this, but probably you at first. You got tired of him always getting intofights, and being reckless.

I actuallyhave no idea on this one. Hands down, Alex’s parents would be overjoyed thattheir son found someone who makes him this happy. Your parents may have been alittle wary about you dating a bad boy when this relationship started, but itdidn’t take them too long to love him because they saw how completely andgenuinely smitten he was with you.

who initiates hand-holding when they’re out inpublic?

He alwaysneeds to be touching you in some way so he does, but when you’ve been datingfor a bit you both always just instinctively reach for the other’s hand

he does.he’d have Hank jet him across the country to spend more time with you.

You’realways in each other arms, but if there’s going to be a blanket hog it wouldprobably be you because Alex has a body temperature higher than the average.

You bothare! Alex may not be the best with emotions and words but he’ll take you intohis arms, snuggle you, play with your hair and kiss you; and you always knowexactly what to say to cheer him up.

In general,you are, but Alex does have his moments— especially your first date because hereally didn’t want to mess it up. I feel like he also avoided you when he firstrealized his feelings for you.

Oh wow. Hard one. Hmm...it’s especially hard cause I just rewatched the whole show, so my “first impressions” are a little skewed. I don’t know if it’s more Octavia Blake or Clarke Griffin tbh. I’m like horribly in love with Eliza Taylor, so that’s a big factor, but Octavia’s character is so dynamic and fun. I loved her from that first, “We’re back, bitches!”

This is even harder because the characters have changed so much! I think it would have to be Cristina Yang, even though she’s not in the show anymore. I miss her so much!

100% without a doubt, Charlie Pace. When I watched the show when I was younger, when it was still on TV, I bawled my friggin’ eyes out every near-death and then his eventual death. It’s funny because now I don’t like him nearly as much.

The Character You Never Expected To Love So Much:

Just based on how she was first introduced, Lexa kom Trikru. We get introduced to this badass warrior Commander, twirling a knife and ordering the deaths of Skaikru for burning her warriors, and she turns out to be the biggest gay softie in the world.

A L E X K A R E V. Holy shit, dude. If you told me that Alex Karev would be one of my favourite characters of all time during the first few seasons, I would have laughed. He’s such an asshole, he doesn’t care about anyone, he’s all about machismo and sleeping with the ladies. And then all of a sudden he does this 180 and the whole macho tough guy is just an act, and he’s just this SWEET SOFT TEDDY BEAR UNDERNEATH.

It’s actually crazy how much of a Sun-Hwa Kwon stan I became after rewatching. She’s just such a fucking badass??? Like, nothing gets her down. And the people that disagree with me that Sun is a Slytherin are just WRONG. Like, the woman learns an entirely different language to get away from her murderous, tyrannical father and arguably abusive husband, and plans to just disappear off into a different country. And then, in the flash forwards, she BUYS OUT HER FATHER’S COMPANY? Slytherin. SUCH a Slytherin.

The Character You Relate To The Most:

Hmm...it’s hard to relate to characters in a post-apocalyptic setting, to be honest, cause I just don’t deal with their issues lol. I feel like I would have to say Clarke Griffin, if only for the fact that she’s a headstrong, stubborn bisexual who tries her best to do the right thing, even if sometimes she’s wrong. That’s the closest similarity I can draw from the characters.

Hands down, Cristina Yang. The commitment issues, the aversion to having a baby, the total 100% dedication and obsession with her job and working? Oh, please, I AM Cristina Yang.

Let’s see, Kate’s a runaway, Claire’s pregnant, Shannon’s a rich kid, Sun is too, I don’t know that I can necessarily relate to any of the women. And the men, like, not at all. Everyone seems to have daddy issues and I don’t have those lol. I have “mommy issues.” Does anyone have mom issues? Ooh ooh! Ana Lucia Cortez! Totally had mom issues. Again, that’s really the closest similarity that I can draw from these characters.

The Character You’d Slap:

Ooh man, so many. Thelonious Jaha, for starters. Like, why are you even here anymore? All you do is cause chaos. They should have locked him out of the bunker.

I don’t know that I’d necessarily slap him, but I really don’t like Richard Webber. He has such anger issues and I feel like he just causes unnecessary tension and drama all the time. And his and Catherine Avery’s relationship is so tumultuous and at times, borderline toxic, I’m just sick of seeing the two of them.

Haha, I feel like my first instinct is James Ford aka Sawyer, just because he’s an ass most of the time, but I love him too much. So I’m saying John Locke, because holy shit, dude, can you cause any more trouble?? Just like I said with Jaha, ALL YOU CAUSE IS CHAOS.

A Character You Liked At First But Don’t Anymore:

Jasper Jordan. This show did you so dirty, my poor child. They should have made him go up in the rocket into space with the rest of them. Can you imagine, crazy alcoholic Jasper Jordan, basically being forced into rehab and made to face his demons? Anyway, yeah, he just went a little too crazy for me, and then he just became a nuisance.

I can’t really think of a character that I liked but don’t anymore. If I had to pick someone, maybe Izzy Stevens? I think she got kind of selfish after living through her cancer death, and then she treated Alex really horribly. I was really happy when he told her he deserved more. But like, it’s honestly me nitpicking a character. I certainly don’t hate Izzy, not even close, I just have to pick SOMEONE.

I already mentioned her, but Ana Lucia Cortez was my first girl crush. When I was young, when the show first came out, I was nine years old and didn’t have any idea I was bisexual. I was IN LOVE with Ana Lucia, I was so upset when she died. Years later, when I rewatched it, it dawned on me just how much I hated her character, and I was like, “Why was she my favourite??” And my gay ass was like, “Ohhhh, it’s cause she’s hot as fuck. Got it.”

A Character You Did Not Like At First But Now Do:

They kind of already asked this? But well, I guess it’s a little bit different. For this one, I’ll say John Murphy. He was SUCH an ass, and I mean, he still is, but now he’s a little more human. And even when you watch him being an ass in the first season, you kind of understand it a little bit more now. Certain things can’t be excused, obviously, but at least they’re better explained.

Ooh, wait, another good one! I couldn’t STAND Arizona Robbins when she was introduced. My boss at the time, Ricky, I was talking to him when I first started watching it (when we were in season 12 I think) and he kept asking me to tell him when I’d met Arizona. And when I finally did, I didn’t get it at all. I was like, “Why do you like her? She’s awful??” And now I LOVE HER SO MUCH.

Benjamin Linus. God, I HATED him when I first watched the show, because obviously, he was the “big bad guy.” Now...well, he’s still a bad guy, but I appreciate his character so much more. Especially in the last few episodes! He really redeems himself.

Three OTPs: (I decided to read this as 3 OTPs for each fandom because I can) (I’m following suit, 3 OTPS per show!)

Oh man. Don’t even get me staaaaarted. Linctavia will forever be like, my most painful OTP. Followed of course, by Clexa. The third one is hard though? Honestly, I just wanted to ship Roan with someone, just cause I found him so effing hot. Any time he was on screen with someone, anyone at all, I went, “I ship it.” But realistically, like a real ship, I guess I would say Memori. Even though Emori is hard for me to like. I’m hoping she’ll be more likeable in season 5.

This is so painful. Mark Sloan/Lexie Grey, again, my most painful OTP and oh GOD, I miss them so much. Alex Karev/Meredith Grey, don’t JUDGE ME OKAY? And again, the last one is hard. I think it’s a tie between Calzona and Japril. Calzona really fell apart, and fell apart hard, whereas Japril is still kind of being hinted at? (Even though this awful Maggie/Jackson thing is being pushed now, I can’t staaaand this.)

I was a total Sawyer/Kate shipper as opposed to Jack/Kate, and I stand by that. But on that note, Sawyer/Juliet is my I WILL GO DOWN WITH THIS SHIP ship. THEY BELONGED TOGETHER. When I was younger, I shipped the hell out of Claire and Charlie but now I kind of hate them together. And now I ship the hell out of Desmond/Charlie lol. Oh, and of course Desmond and Penny, but still, the Desmond/Charlie ship has sailed and I am the captain.

I don’t think I really have any friends on this site who would actually do this if I tagged them...so I’m just gonna say anyone who wants to do it should, just tag @sassybrowsreyes in your post!

Another flash fic! This is a sequel to A long night spent with your most obvious weakness, though you don’t have to read that to understand what’s going on in this one. Enjoy!

Kyle carefully steps down the ladder, noting that the bunker is cold and smells like overly recycled air. The lights are surprisingly warm, making the place look far kinder than the cold Project Shepard bunker Kyle knows.

Michael isn’t paying attention, bent over one of the tables, scribbling something. His curls are messy and greasy and he smells far too much like sweat, booze, and acetone. Kyle asks himself yet again why Alex is attracted to Michael Guerin, of all men.

“Just drop the food over there,” Michael says absently. “I’ve got something to show you.”

“You were expecting Liz?” Kyle asks.

Michael jumps and then glares at him. He looks like he’s imagining killing Kyle with his brain and, if Kyle didn’t know he couldn’t do that directly, he’d be worried. And then he starts to wonder if Michael could do that directly.

“We need to talk,” Kyle starts, turning his attention to the reason he’s there. He starts to make his way across the room towards Michael.

“No, you need to fuck off. Go find someone else to bother,” Michael replies, tone cold. He reaches for the bottle of acetone on the table and opens it, taking a swig.

“It’s about Alex,” Kyle offers, waiting for the reaction he knows will come, though a part of him wishes it wouldn’t. He wants better for his best friend than an alcoholic, acetone dependent alien with anger management problems. After everything, he’s certain Alex deserves someone kind and gentle. But he also knows Alex is in love with Michael Guerin, for some reason, so here he is. Trying to convince Michael to start working on himself so he can maybe be good for Alex.

Michael’s reaction is right on cue. His eyes narrow and he moves forward, looking every bit like he’s trying to threaten or intimidate Kyle, who fights an eye roll in response. “If you think I’m just going to stand by while you-”

“He’s a handsome man,” Kyle needles Michael, taking in the way he tenses. “He’s smart and kind. Forest didn’t last, but, eventually, someone will. Someone who will see how amazing Alex is and who’ll treat him right.”

“You’re one to talk about treating Alex right,” Michael’s tone is low and threatening. “How many times did you and your asshole friends attack him in high school?”

“I was a jackass. And a bully,” Kyle acknowledges evenly. “And I should have been a better friend to Alex back then. I’m trying to be a better friend to him now. He needs one.” The ‘whether or not he will admit it’ goes unsaid. He pauses, “He deserved better from me then. And he deserves better from you now than being stuck watching you drowning yourself in booze and acetone and hauling your drunk ass out of Saturns Rings every night of the week.”

“Well maybe he should just leave me be then!” Michael finally snaps, getting right in Kyle’s face. “He can run away any time! I don’t need him!”

Kyle frowns, holding his ground, not moving an inch one way or the other. He’s dealt with angry family members of his patients plenty of times at work and knows how often they’re just scared. He wonders whether Michael is more afraid that Alex will leave or that Alex will stay.

“Do you know why Alex left in the first place?” Kyle asks, tone even and careful.

And suddenly it’s like the wind has left Guerin’s sails. He slumps over and moves back toward the table, looking like a kicked puppy. “He wanted to. He wanted to join up and go throw his life away.” He watches as Michael opens the bottle of acetone again and drinks probably about half of what is left.

Kyle shakes his head. “Before you, Alex did want to leave. He wanted to get out of this town, get away from his father, and make music. His father wanted him to join the Air Force. When we were kids, he was always trying to turn all his kids into smaller versions of himself. But Alex… He didn’t want that. That was the last thing that he ever wanted for himself. And then you two…” He takes a breath, “I don’t know the specifics of what happened between you, but I know that, whether or not he says it, you’re the reason Alex signed up. Whatever happened between you two, it was what changed his plans from getting as far away as possible from a father who hates him to giving that monster exactly what he wanted.” He takes a deep breath, “You’re supposed to be a genius, Guerin. Why do you think that changed?”

He watches as Michael works through what he’s said in his head. And then, after a moment, he nods and looks up at Kyle. “You think he’d stay?”

Kyle shrugs, “You’d have to ask him to know for sure but… I’ve known Alex a long time. There’s not much he wouldn’t do for the people he loves. And, for some reason, he loves you.”

Michael nods again. “He’s…” He shakes his head, swipes at his eyes. And that, more than anything, surprises Kyle. That Michael’s feelings are so close to the surface with Alex. He can’t even hide them from him. And Kyle knows how much Michael hates him. “He’s the best thing that ever happened to me. But, every time he leaves…”

Kyle doesn’t know what to say. He doesn’t know how to deal with a vulnerable Michael Guerin, though he imagines maybe this is the version of Guerin that Alex sees. Maybe this is the man Alex took on his father to protect. He pauses, takes a deep breath, and offers, “He’s staying now.”

Michael is silent for a while before he shakes his head, sniffs and looks up at Kyle. “I still hate you.” But there’s no real strength to that assertion.

“Yeah, I don’t like you much either,” Kyle replies, tone calm.

“Then why are you being so nice to me?” Michael asks. He sounds suspicious. Like he’s waiting for the rug to be pulled out from under him.

“I don’t like you. But Alex is my best friend. I want him to be happy. He deserves that much.” Kyle pauses, “And, for some reason, Alex wants you. So get your shit together, Guerin. Take a damn shower, do the work to get clean and sober, and maybe see a fucking therapist.” He pauses, considering for a moment before adding, “Do all that, and I’ll do what I can to help you. For Alex’s sake. Do we have a deal?”

He watches as Michael considers. And then watches the bottle of acetone sail through the air and drop into the garbage can on its own.

He can’t help but smile at Michael in that moment. He knows it won’t be easy for Michael. And it definitely won’t be easy for him either. But maybe, just maybe, Michael is willing to work to become the kind of person Alex deserves. And maybe that’s not healthy, but he hopes that, for Michael’s sake, he’ll eventually want to do that work for himself too.
