So, I watched the Newsies pro-shot last night, and now I’ve found myself falling back in love with Jack and Katherine. Just want to share a few random bits and pieces that popped into my head about Jack and Katherine’s life post-canon.

Jack and Katherine’s wedding date was September 25th, 1901. This was Katherine’s wedding dress; it’s definitely faded, but just imagine how beautiful it was at the time it was created:

This is a dress that Katherine wears when she brings Jack as a date to a birthday party held for one of her brothers (and yes, I’m gonna write a fic about it soon):

Here is Katherine’s engagement ring, which once belonged to Jack’s mother; he held onto it after all those years, thinking that he would sell it if it came down to it... but then he met Katherine:

Jack and Katherine have five children together:

Rose Lucille Kelly (born December 5th, 1902)

Rose mainly takes after her mother in looks, but she has her father’s hazel eyes. Her birth was very difficult, lasting for sixty hours, and she weighed nine pounds when she was born. She has her father’s energy and her mother’s ambition. While she dabbles in journalism, her true passion is fiction; she writes a few short stories that her proud grandfather has published in the newspaper. His death in 1911 devastated her and sent her into deep depression. It was only the birth of her brother, Jacob, that helped begin to lift her out of it. When she grows up, she writes a semi-fictional book about the Newsboys’ Strike of 1899 (from the perspective of her father and mother), which in that universe, becomes the base of the 1992 film and the stage musical.

Theodore Larkin Kelly (born June 14th, 1904)

Katherine went into labor during a Flag Day celebration at the Pulitzer mansion; as is often with second babies, baby Theo’s birth seemed to go by much quicker than Rose’s birth. He’s a sensitive soul and a quiet child (a definite miracle for someone of Kelly blood) who didn’t even say his first word until he was almost three (for those of you who are curious, his first word is “Mama”). He’s also very empathetic to a fault, heavily effected by world events happening in the world. After the 1918 flu pandemic and his mother’s brush with the illness, he decides to become a doctor himself. During the Second World War, he becomes a medic overseas. Unfortunately, despite his precautions, he contracts cholera. While the patient survived (and not without guilt), he died in 1943, leaving behind his family, including a wife (who became pregnant when he received Christmas leave) and twin daughters. His wife gave birth to another baby girl, whom she named Theodosia (affectionately called “Teddy” by her Grandpa Jack).

Elaine Josephine Kelly (born October 28th, 1909)

Little Elaine Kelly seemed to be born for the theater; at the age of two, while visiting Medda Larkin’s theater with her parents, she ran onstage before a show and began singing to “aws” and applause. She embraces the flapper movement, and performs onstage. She spends her teens dreaming of Hollywood the same way her father once dreamt of Santa Fe, eventually becoming a star of the stage and the screen.

Jacob Charles Kelly (born April 28th, 1912)

Named for Davey Jacobs and Charlie “Crutchie” Morris, obviously, though he is definitely a mini-me of Jack. While his siblings are all exceptional artists, he is the only one who pursues it as a true career aspiration. In fact, when Jack retires, Jacob takes over the cartoons.

Beatrice Grace Kelly (born July 28th, 1914)

The happy occasion of Beatrice’s birth was eclipsed by the beginning of the first World War. She was a very adventurous and inquisitive child. But she never left New York City for long, eventually settling down as a schoolteacher, marrying at the age of thirty-five, adopting an orphaned three-year-old girl, and welcoming a biological son and daughter.

1. What was the first fandom you got involved in?

The first fandom I ever wrote for was Naruto. My girlfriend at the time and me ended up writing like 6 5-subject notebooks full of Naruto/Akatsuki fanfiction. Never published (for the best lmfaooo)

17. Who was your first OTP and are they still your favourite?

This is hard to answer because I am honestly not sure. I guess I would have to say jack x nine x rose. I never wrote anything for them, but I was absolutely obsessed with their dynamic for a long time before Doomsday broke my heart. The throuple is still my favorite and I refuse to hear any slander about them.

26. How do you come up with your fanfic titles?

I am lazy with titles so its normally the first thing that comes to mind or for the last few chapters of my last fic just song titles or references lol

40. What do you struggle the most with in your writing?

Remembering what I wrote and also being satisfied with it. Also, it has been pointed out recently (i say recently but really multiple times and I am just choosing now to listen) that I am horrible with being too wordy in between dialogue instead of allowing dialogue to speak for itself.

50. How did you get into reading and/or writing fanfiction?

So, 20 years ago, I was writing it then I stopped for a very long time. Twilight brought me back about 2 years ago with this one long fic that was a perfect rewrite, shout out to the dedicated Twilight fans, then Starfield gave me inspo to hop back into the saddle and write for myself.

they mean the world to me and i will never tire of them even though only 1/3 is (kinda) canon 😅 i could elaborate for hours literally but there is just something so fundamentally beautiful about them, they complete eachother and learn to grow together and to be the better version of themselves and it’s aaaaaahhhh

and more recently i've been really into

bg3 characters shipped with eachother and tav/durge, it’s my current full time obsession and i will let it consume me forever <3 i confess i have a soft spot for anything including astarion, gale, wyll & halsin (and some *thoughts* about rolan x tav and durgetash too………)

hogwarts legacy’s ot3 with ominis, sebastian and the main character - sebinis is also great in itself but it was my true ot3 awakening and i will never emotionally recover from that ! it also got me back to writing and reading fics :)

jack x phryne from miss fisher’s murder mysteries - the chemistry is UNMATCHED. the tension is on a whole other level i have never been so intensely wishing for something to happen. they’re a great duo and it’s just so fun to watch them

gereon x lotte from babylon berlin ; i haven’t watched the last season and it’s less light hearted than the one above but i love them and they are so GOOD for eachother and so in love it hurts i just want them to be happy and free 🥺 but yeah The Kiss is forever seared into my brain

sherlock & molly from sherlock bbc. it’s wishful thinking but the potential was RIGHT THERE and they are so fun to watch and so vulnerable with eachother too ; i do really like johnlock as well but the sherlolly energy from the show will always be superior to me

Favourite thing about him: he's a wonderful play on the sassy twink stereotype, by far the sweetest character despite trying to act like he doesn't care. Also - he's specifically giving me "gay millennial" and I'm a gay millennial myself so I have someone to latch onto in the show 🥰😆

Least favourite thing about him: the fact that I don't know whether he knows how to swim!!!!!!

Favourite line:

There are SO MANY, but it has to be the one that actually prompted me to watch the show:

brOTP: I think he would get along well with Jim. Together with them, Frenchie and Ed they could pull THE best fuckeries anyone has ever seen, and steal so much money while they're at it.

OTP: He and Pete. They are a set!!!! Do NOT separate!!!!!

nOTP: probably Ed and Stede? I could see him romancing everyone but them really. Would be weird. Those are his dads (metaphorically) for crying out loud!!!!

Random headcanon: i have several!!!!!! But my favourite is that he's somehow connected to the real pirate Francis Spriggs (whether they're related or Lucius will start using the name Francis after he comes back from the dead). Given the themes already present in the show I think he's more likely to come back with a new alias. But we'll see. Personally I think it's likely something like that will happen. Why else have Lucius be one of the few main characters with a canonical last name?

Unpopular opinion: here's a random thought - I think he would get along with Mary. Idk whether that's an unpopular opinion?

In an ideal world Lucius would reappear just as a distant It's Britney, bitch can be heard from above.

Favourite picture of them:

Nathan Foad face of all time innit. He's just sooo fuckin animated. He's pulling so many amazing faces throughout the show, but this one has to be my favourite, especially given the context of the scene. It's the face that says "you're not doing great, are you?". Amazing.

Ed 🗡️🥺

Favourite thing about him: the aesthetic. It's Taika Waititi in leather! And a crop top! With a knee brace!!!

Least favourite thing about him: idk honestly. I guess I don't have a read on him yet. He's kinda all over the place while all of it feels calculated. He's not my favourite character on the show overall, but he's? okay? otherwise.

Favourite line:

What makes Ed happy is you. Easy.

brOTP: Idk, probably Frenchie and Jim? If they don't kill each other first, they could get along nicely I think.

L - Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn’t one of your faves. (Characters you’re neutral about are fair game, as are characters you merely dislike. Characters that you absolutely loathe with the fire of ten thousand suns are exempt, as there is no point in giving yourself an aneurysm over a character that you hate.)

I think Lieutenant Buckland (Hornblower book series, not Hornblower TV) did the best he could in a bad situation. He was not a man who should have been a captain, or even probably a first lieutenant, but he tried his best. (TV Buckland is an ass. Don't fucking try to get Hornblower killed to save your sorry neck, dipshit.)

G - Have you ever had an OTP? If so, do you remember your first one? Who was in it?

My first OTP was actually an OT3: Nine/Jack/Rose. I do not think I've found another ship involving the Doctor that does not involve Rose. I just. I love her <3 Otherwise I don't really think I have many OTPs. Even in the X Files I think Mulder has something going on with Krycek. Maybe Will Graham/Hannibal Lecter? Just for the safety of everyone around them they should not be multishipped lmao

B - A pairing–platonic, romantic or sexual–that you initially didn’t consider, but someone changed your mind.

I didn't really enjoy Laurence/Granby at first, but there are some talented and dedicated writers for the pairing and they have fully brought me on board.

T - Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending?

Granby has been pining over Laurence since the moment they stopped hating each other. That's why he didn't mind Iskierka kidnapping him to Australia. IDEK if this is a headcanon or just canon tbh but. I will defend it forever. Mulder and Scully are bi4bi. Clarissa and Diana were carrying on a very strange affair. Transmasc Will Graham. Similarly, transmasc Stephen Maturin(see the 37k+ words of fic i've published since mid februrary)
