nanananan nanashi 4 ask game🥹

favorite thing about them: NANASHI HAS STYLE, and I will die on that hill. People bitch and moan about Nanashi's "ugly" design, but he is PUNK and that fits really well with IVA's themes. I'd rather have a protagonist with a totally unique appearance than yet another bland kid. Maybe that is antithesis to the roots of SMT (they've always favored bland "nobody" characters), but I am nonetheless sticking to my stance. I love that he is dressed for the part as a Hunter, but still embraces his own sense of identity and style -- which frankly is important and natural for teens. I feel the same way about Asahi's own style. I love that Nanashi's design incorporates aspects of the two Akiras from IV. HE. HAS. GOOD. DESIGN.

least favorite thing about them: Once again this is more of an issue I have with IVA's writing and it is not solely about Nanashi, but I do wish that IVA did explore Akira's motivations more (especially with rescuing his sister, which is just absent in IVA) and how his actions and choices would've later impacted his later reincarnated self. There's a lot of stuff that Akira did in the background of IV that only barely gets examined IVA. Akira's "betrayal" toward the Hunters and Nanashi falling into that same fate makes for an interesting foil, but is just another foil that gets resolved way too quickly for my liking. Nanashi saves the day by repelling the Tokugawa Mandela and is immediately forgiven and praised by all with almost hardly any skepticism. Again it's an issue I have with IVA at large, but it still leaves me wanting more out of the characters and their development.

favorite line: Can I even say I have a favorite line from a silent protagonist, lol? I can say that I do like how "extreme" Nanashi is with his answers, either being very openly kind to downright crass and cold. It's much more extreme than some of Flynn's answers in IV. Arguably it makes IVA's alignment choices too obvious, but I like that it gives Nanashi a polarizing personality and it fits with his design too. Plus some of his anarchy answers are downright hilarious.

Additionally, I'm also amazed at Nanashi's "Dagda!" voice clip in the massacre route. For most of the game, he calls for Dagda in such a high-pitched voice. But as soon as you're locked in massacre, his voice suddenly turns really gruff and deep. Lmao??

brOTP: HE IS BROS WITH EVERYONE. But especially with Asahi, Hallelujah, and Navarre! I love his caring sibling relationship with Asahi, I love him being best of buds with Hallelujah, and I love that Navarre is basically like the cool fun uncle to him.

I posted that stupid edit of Morcedai and Rigby earlier, but actually Nanashi and Hallelujah are WAY more like Morcedai and Rigby. That's them for realll.

OTP: Nanashi x Hallelujah NATION LET'S GO. I will absolutely ship them both as bros and as a pair! They have the best ever chemistry.

nOTP: Yeah so, I really do not like Asahi x Nanashi and I hate seeing Nanashi get shipped with adults. Stop it. Enough said.

random headcanon: I like to imagine that, even before the events of IVA, Nanashi has always had dreams of his past life -- just not as frequently or as "unusual" as they later would be, stuff that he'd just brush off and keep to himself. I also like to think that, partly cause of that, he feels a closeness or yearning towards the Sky Tower and Firmanent but cannot put into words as to why.

unpopular opinion: Nanashi's concept design (the one where he's older, has glasses, and the giant robot arm) sucks and I'm tired of people saying it is "superior" than Nanashi's final design. Maybe the older design would have worked better for an earlier story concept, but for the way IVA is now, it fucking sucks. You can't just switch Nanashi's design with that and expect it to seamlessly work with the game's narrative. People complain about Nanashi being a "discount Demi-fiend", but actually Nanashi's design is much more subtle and it HAS to be in order to work with the narrative. A giant robot arm is the very opposite of subtle.

God I'm just, so pissed at people saying Nanashi's design is "bad". I'm pissed I'm pissed!!

So, this might be my OTP, so uhhhhhh this one might be longer than the others (somehow lmfao). God, I have so many, this is gonna be hard to pick. More folks can ask for HCs for these guys. Hell, ask me for HCs about them in different AUs!!! I have HCs for days!!!!

1. Harry is the first person to treat Kim like this.

"Like this." That's a broad statement. It's a broad statement for a reason.

Harry is an all-encompassing experience. He assaults the senses from every conceivable angle. Sight, sound, scent - I imagine you can practically taste his sweat from across a room. A warm blanket. A void that swallows the world. You are either consumed Harry Du Bois, or you aren't. There's no in-between.

So, when Kim is the centre of Harry's attention, it's like nothing he's ever experienced. No one has seen Kim like this. But, at the same time, no one has witnessed the raw core of his being and not understood it in such a visceral, primal way.

It's not "you should take those racist comments as a compliment," it's "what's Seol?" It's not "you're one of the good gay people,'' it's "what's homosexuality?"

All Harry knows is how to pick at scabs, tear at stitches, and pull the lifeblood out of people's veins. It's raw. It hurts.

It's beautiful.

Kim has never been put on a pedestal before. He's always been the second, third, even fourth choice. He copes with people implying (or outright stating) that he doesn't belong because of his race (and certainly his sexuality, although we don't encounter that in game). He's a self proclaimed spoilsport - not who the 57th would really want present for a Cop-Off. He's nothing special in his own eyes. Just getting by.

But Harry... Oh, Harry. He wants every part of Kim the way that no one else has. He wants the things that make him angry. The things that make him sad. He wants the parts that Kim hid long, long ago. He wants what hides under the survival instincts and professionalism. He wants to dance in a church.

And, by god, Kim wants to dance, too.

2. Kim was infatuated first, but Harry was in love first.

I think that Kim got butterflies when Harry called him cool on the balcony, but he wasn't completely caught off balance. It was... nice. It was something fun, but it didn't make him fall hard and fast. Attraction is one thing, but I don't think Kim would have fallen first.

Harry, though... Ten days. I think ten days is all it would take for him. I think he's in love the second he asks Kim to join the 41st, but he doesn't have the words to explain it. He just knows that he doesn't want a life without Kim.

Maybe it's the skills trying to protect him (especially having recently experienced the Final Dream), or maybe they're as lost as he is. They just think he's fucking cool. They know he's important. But this is a new kind of deification. With Dora, it was straight forward.

A beautiful woman gives Harry the time of day. Done. Cross your lungs, get on your knees. Easy as 1, 2, 3.

Kim, though? Oh man. He's cool. He knows shit. He can play pinball (cool) but hates it (even cooler). Did you know that there's a very, very slim chance of Kim actually managing to shoot the body out of the tree? BECAUSE IT HAPPENED IN ONE OF MY PLAYTHROUGHS. It blew my mind, and in that instant I was RIGHT with Harry.

Call me Disco "Would Do Anything For Kim" Brainrot. (I mean, call me Misc or Milo, but you know lol).

Regardless - Harry is in love. He's off his rocker, totally, deeply in love way before the word materializes in his broken brain. And as he grapples with everything, Kim preens under his attention. He thinks it's cute. He thinks it's nice to feel wanted.

Still waters run deep, but he's underestimating the depth of Harry's rapids. Welcome to the undertow, boys.

3. Kim can't pronounce Harrier with his accent.

Yes, absolutely! Sorry I didn't get to this sooner, it was past midnight last night and I've had classes all day. Odazai has become my OTP to end all OTPs, like it is unfathomable how much I love them. I could literally talk about them all day, so I'm sorry this got so long. I'm so happy you're a chill member of the fandom and love them too! By the way, I wanted to say I totally agree with your opinions on Kousano and respect your Chuuaku ones too! Kousano very much feels like a "these two are cool, put them together" kind of ship without a lot of concern for their development and similarities. While I do love Kouyou as a character, I don't have fond feelings for her when she's presented just by herself (as opposed to her other canon relationships like with Kyouka), and liking both parties of a ship is pretty much a requirement for me. Luckily, this happened with Odazai!

In general I do view this ship through a Dazai heavy lens because I relate to him hardcore and it's hard for me to understand/get attached to stoic characters like Oda. This is weird because I'm probably more like him irl than Dazai lol. I always feel like I'm not looking as deeply into Oda's character as I could be, and I try to be conscious of not lessening his role in comparison to Dazai's, but keep that in mind and judge me if you want as you read this lol.

What made you ship it?

The fact that Dazai showed the most emotion I've ever seen on his face and in his voice (amazing job by Miyano Mamoru) around Oda and the later realization that Dazai was Oda's first and one of his only friends. Not to say other characters *coughcoughchuuyacough* haven't made a significant impact on Dazai. I try not to compare these two ships a lot cause they are both meaningful in their own ways to the story and the characters. But anyway, I cried like a little bitch before Oda's big fight/death scene even happened, when Dazai just is begging him not to go throw away his life and trying to relate to him on a deeply personal level to get him to stay. That really showed to me how much he cared for Oda and how different that relationship was to him whether he knew it or not. Someone also edited the Dead Apple scene beautifully to be more shippy and I can never forget it. Also, Scarlet Sky playing every time Oda is talked about or Dark Era is referenced in the main storyline got me sobbing. I guess what truly made me ship Odazai is just the abundance of a suggested romantic connection (very obvious on Dazai's part). Dark Era (confronting Mori about this massive betrayal and leaving the mafia feels like "you have destroyed everything that was ever important to me, bye"), how Oda thinks of Dazai, not Ango or the orphans, when he believes he's dying after getting poisoned, Dazai literally ruining peoples' lives that he holds dear in the present just so Oda can live and be happy even without him in Beast, Dear Prince (a love song) playing when Dazai recalls that moment in Dead Apple and in the flashback later on, "Was it someone you loved?" and dodging the question LIKE HOW OBVIOUS can you get!!

2. As I fell further into the rabbit hole. . .

So I joined an Odazai discord server around a year ago, love it there, everyone's so creative and lovely, here if interested: https://discord.gg/tnA3mzyB. There's also a lot of analyses on Odazai on Tumblr that make sense! This post about Oda and Dazai being each other's regrets (from Dark Era light novel, Oda says, "Ango and I could stay by Dazai's side because we can understand the loneliness that revolves around Dazai. Even though we are by his side, we would never step within. But now, I'm a little regretful that I never stepped into that loneliness impolitely." Oda just say you wanna hold his hand lol), this whole post about them filling each other's unmet childhood needs, this which basically puts all Odazai moments and mentions together, I absolutely love this theory that there's a physical change in Dazai's ability after he meets Oda, there's just so much to love about them.

3. What I don't like:

Putting this here cause I don't want to end on this note. This ain't even about Oda and Dazai, it's just about the fandom. I don't think any of us who like this ship like the people who complain about the 5 year age difference. It's not a lot at all, especially when you take literally everything else about their relationship into account and the fact that it's fictional and fun. But since side A and B have come out (which I haven't read) I've seen people kind of using it as further evidence that the age gap is a problem and let it cloud their judgement on Oda and Dazai's respective personalities and boundary abiding tendencies. In addition to that I always see the, "but Oda calls him a child and views him like that in the novel" argument, which I don't really get. I watched some YouTube video a while ago that was like, why do partners call each other baby or babe? It's because those words represent a yearning to take care of the other and foster a better, more committed relationship or something like that. Saying your friend has a hurt expression like a lost kid doesn't necessarily mean you think of them as significantly younger or immature compared to you. This especially applies in fictional writing where it can just be used as a helpful visual for something that will be adapted to a screen. I don't have a problem with fans who dislike Odazai romantically, but I do when they completely deny their equal footing. Come on, Oda mixes up his fairytales and Dazai is insanely smart, their relationship would never be abusive on an age basis. Anyway.

4.. What are your favorite things about the ship?

Well for one, I'm a sucker for angst and pain and two, I love childhood friends/best friends to lovers so so so much. Add in the possibility of enemies to lovers in Beast and they have it all. I guess I like the ambiguity and flow of how their relationship could go too. Like, they both would think moving in with each other is totally natural friend behavior, and then there'll be this phase of realization and it'll just pass by like yeah, we're married now. From Dark Era, we get that Oda, Dazai, and Ango can all be friends outside their different ranking mafia positions because they all feel that they think similarly and understand each other. They're all on equal ground, so Dazai and Oda having a profound connection built off that is something I think can be an accurate reflection of real life. At their cores, both want the best for each other. Oda wants Dazai to have a life meaningful to him and suggests that path through what he knows, Dazai wants Oda to live out his dream, helping him to do that in whatever way possible. They are separated by time and space, yet so closely linked by what they've found with each other it hurts. There's literally already a family there with the kiddos too! These two seem to get dumber in each other's presence like SSKK also does and I find that amusing lol. I appreciate that Oda is serious about the people he cares about and doesn't take Dazai's suicide obsession as lightly as a lot of other characters, as some shippers speculate because he has also had depression at one point or another. I love that in several peoples' minds, Odazai would only have conflict when they're upset the other isn't taking care of themself properly. I love that Oda is such an oblivious himbo. I love that people speculate Dazai's bolo tie reminds him of Oda's eyes and that he picked the spot for the grave that overlooks a beautiful view even if he didn't know Oda loved the ocean. I love that they both realize they care about each other when it's too late, that they will meet in the afterlife.

girl that's not weird at all!! I would be THRILLED to share them :D

one thing about my non-canon OTPs is that they are so non-canon, in fact, that it's impossible for them to ever BE canon. I mean they both involve a character that literally has one scene and little to no lines. neither of these couples have ever even met on-screen and they probably never will, but is that gonna stop me? absolutely not

first off, let me introduce you to the gloriousness that is Jacen Syndulla and Paige Tico

(Paige Tico is Rose Tico's sister from The Last Jedi who sacrificed herself by blowing up her ship for the rebellion, but we're going to ignore that last bit for ultimate fluff purposes and also because on this blog we ignore every character death ever)

their ship name is Paicen

they meet in a marketplace on Lothal

Paige and Rose are looking for an important ship part because their ship broke down, but it's hard to find and they're getting frustrated. so the first time Jacen sees Paige is when she's yelling at someone for not having the part they need

and he thinks

that is the most beautiful woman I've ever seen in my life

so, in true Kanan fashion, he goes over to Paige and tells her very smoothly that he'd be very happy to fix up her ship for her because what a coincidence, he just so happens to be a mechanic! but Paige, oh boy Paige, she takes this the wrong way and starts yelling at HIM for being a hotshot pilot and she can do it herself, thank you very much, and if he doesn't know how to find a chip for a standard nav reader then he should GET LOST

and, also in true Kanan fashion, Jacen has two thoughts:

A) I think I'm in love with you

B) oh no I messed up

he apologizes for assuming that she needed help and Paige just stares because ... she wasn't expecting an apology. this guy is definitely not who she thought he was. they get on the same page, they laugh it off and introduce themselves and exchange contact information and eventually go on a date (which is very successful)

they're like the next-generation version of Kanera: just very lovey dovey and sweet and in love with each other

Jacen brings Paige flowers all the time (and roses for Rose because he's a gentleman)

a silly headcanon I have is that when Jacen turned 16 he turned into a "heartthrob" and suddenly ALL the girls were falling over themselves to get him to notice them ... he doesn't even have to do anything, he just walks into the room and they all swoon. the only girl who didn't swoon immediately was Paige 😌

when I was first obsessed with them like two years ago, way before the Ahsoka show aired, both Jacen and Paige had only one (1) canon scene and little-to-no lines. and I was like, well that clearly means they're soulmates. they're perfect for each other

now let me introduce you to my other favorite non-canon OTP: Crosshair and Bultar Swan

(Bultar Swan is canonically Plo Koon's padawan - yes he did have a padawan, you're welcome - and she's in the Battle of Geonosis in Attack of the Clones! and also she doesn't have much of a canon personality, so for the sake of ultimate fluff once again, we're going to say that she's similar to Luna Lovegood & spaces out a lot & is also very connected to the Force. just a very traditional Jedi)

THEIR ship name is Sniper Swan

Paicen was love at first sight? These two are a slowburn. A really, really, really slow slowburn

they first meet in the Clone Wars, but there's nothing particularly special about it. Bultar goes on a couple missions with the Bad Batch and they work well together. she and Crosshair make a good team in battle. it's all business-like and on friendly terms

Bultar is a very peaceful person - she doesn't use her lightsaber a lot, and she prefers to talk things through before resorting to extreme things like violence. she genuinely respects all the clones and thinks of them as people, just like her

Crosshair sees this, because he sees a lot of things with his enhanced vision, and he doesn't understand it. he tries to poke and prod at her to try and get her to crack, to snap back at him like other Jedi might, but she doesn't. she takes all of his cutting and snide remarks with patience and calmness and eventually he mirrors the patience back. he can ask her questions that normally others would start an argument with him over it, whereas she just gives him a realistic logical answer

they know each other for years before they even think about catching feelings for each other as a possibility

depending on the timeline - canon, No-Order-66 AU, Adoption Magnet even (👀) - they get together in different ways

but it usually goes something like this: after years of knowing each other, Crosshair starts catching feelings for her - and of course because it's Crosshair it takes him a long time to admit that, even just to himself - while Bultar is as oblivious as Adrien Agreste when it comes to Marinette. she has no clue until someone (either Wolffe or her own clone captain) tells her about it and warns her to stay away from Crosshair for her own good

poor Bultar who's been raised in the Jedi Temple her entire life has no idea what to do with this information - people are capable of falling in love with her? she's capable of falling in love? - so she has a bit of a mental crisis

she takes some time to think through everything, carefully process her thoughts and emotions and feelings - and when she has successfully done so, she's surprised to find that she ... does, actually, like Crosshair back

it still takes them a bit to get together but all things considering, it's MUCH much shorter than the other stages of their relationship XD

Crosshair keeps Bultar grounded in the moment and Bultar helps Crosshair be more comfortable with showing emotions and being vulnerable <3

man that got long XD technically I have one more I invented - Korkie Kenobi Kryze and Soniee, one of his classmates from that one Clone Wars arc - but I don't have nearly as many headcanons for those two lol. When I tell you this man is repressed, I mean that. He doesn't even realize he's in love until someone points it out to him, then the realization hits him like a truck. He's the kind of person to love rarely, but completely, and it's obvious if you're already close to him/know him. His love languages are physical touch and gifts, though he doesn't allow himself to engage in the former unless he thinks he deserves it (at first anyways. we're working on it)

(T)HRILL ― Do they feel the need to try out new things to spice up the relationship? Or do they prefer a certain routine?

Both of us love our routines, so it works out very well for our relationship. The only time we try new things would be in the bedroom, and that's not what this ask is about lol. We enjoy waking up at our same times, eating breakfast/drinking coffee together. Our morning routine is the most important part of our day and we both get very grumpy if it gets thrown off

(P)DA ― Are they upfront about their relationship? Do they brag about s/i and/or their relationship to others, or are they more reserved/shy about it?

He is upfront about our relationship because he'll be damned if anyone tries to make a move on me. Protective to the point of possessiveness, but in a very reserved way. He's the kind of person to stick by my side in public with a hand on me at all times, but he won't be very verbal about it unless someone asks. Does not tolerate other people flirting with me, even in a joking way (which isn't usually a problem unless Johnny decides he wants to push his buttons)

Hi, I've seen you're still doing the character breakdown thing and wondered if you could do one with Nami from AWL/HM DS? :)

Ah, Nami, our soft-spoken wanderer.  She’s often found in nature contemplating various things and her past is a bit of a mystery.  She’s a very curious character and I’m really fond of her.

How I feel about this character: My first exposure to Nami was in Harvest Moon DS.  She struck me as quiet, thoughtful, and a little lonely.  I was also a little intimidated by her because she was much more blunt than the other female characters in general.  I really like her and think that she’s an interesting character with a lot of potential for an extended backstory.  I think that wanderer characters would have some fascinating stories.  I’ve yet to finish wooing her on my file, but she’s probably one of my favorite girls in Forget-Me-Not Valley, if not my favorite.

All the people I ship romantically with this character

Nami x Farmer: I feel like Nami would adjust well to farm life.  She asks the player character about the farm and enjoys the tranquility of it.  Although she doesn’t really help with farm chores in game, I can easily imagine her wanting to be part of it all, eager to give it a try.  She admires the farmer for their independence and their ability to be self-sufficient.

Nami x Muffy: Nami frequenting the bar, Muffy’s disappointment with men that always let her down… Ah, I can imagine an angsty fic where the two fall in love without realizing it and Muffy chases after Nami after she runs out of money and has to leave town.

Nami x Rock: Okay, hear me out, lol.  They spend a lot of time together at the inn.  I think that they could teach each other important lessons about taking responsibility and opening up to others.  I could see Ruby being really happy with this arrangement, as I feel she really sees Nami as a daughter.  It could be one of those cases where opposites attract.  At the very least, it would be really interesting.

Nami x Cody: They both have inquiring minds and creative sides.  I feel like Nami would be really intrigued by Cody’s art and maybe even get involved in creating her own.  It would be really cute if she moved in with him and they had a studio together, creating their own works and maybe even some collaborations.

My non-romantic OTP for this character

Nami/Gustafa: I feel like these two have good chemistry and would be great friends.  They both have wonder for the world around them and want to wander and explore.  I think they’d have interesting stories to tell each other.

Nami/Griffin: As a regular at the bar, Nami and Griffin would definitely be seeing each other a lot.  I can see Griffin giving Nami advice when she asks for it and him being a sort of mentor for her.  Meanwhile, I think Nami’s curiosity about the world in general would make for some good conversations.

Nami/Ruby:  I can easily see Ruby taking Nami in as a daughter.  The two get along very well, and Nami is much more grateful for the things Ruby does than her own son.  I can see Nami helping around the inn to earn a little extra money and Ruby giving her free dinners to her favorite tenant.

Nami/Marlin: These two could easily be drinking buddies, venting about their days and just having lots of comfortable silence between the two of them.

Nami/Takakura:  I feel like these two would be good friends, especially if Nami marries the farmer and lives on the property.  I could imagine Takakura teaching her all about animal care and Nami being fascinated by it.  I imagine the bond being a bit of a father/daughter one.

My unpopular opinion about this character

I’m going to duck and cover as I say this, but I feel like Nami x Gustafa feels forced in the games.  Gustafa seems perfectly happy doing his own thing, and while I feel that they could spend some quality time together, I have a hard time imagining it as romantic.  Honestly, I think Cody would be a much better partner for her.  Gustafa and Cody do have similar qualities such as creativity and a pure wonder when it comes to appreciating the world around them, but Cody is a little more introverted and soft spoken.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

I really liked Nami’s interactions with Ruby at the inn, and I was hoping that her and Rock would become closer and be good influences on each other.  Now, before you ask me how Rock can be a good influence on anyone, he can teach her that it’s okay to rely on people sometimes, and also how to speak up for herself and have more confidence in general.  I feel like her independence can also be a good thing, though, and she’d have a lot to teach Rock, including gratitude for what you are given.  I really like the idea of Ruby, Rock, Tim, and Nami as a family unit.

I’d also love more backstory on Nami’s family.  Nami mentions her father, but it’s hard to tell what he’s like other than he wasn’t happy about her leaving and could possibly be worried about her.  It does give a little more wiggle room when it comes to writing fanfiction for her, but in game it feels like a lingering mystery.

how do u motivate urself to write so much! youre like incredible writing several drabbles every day... i can never make myself write like i always lack either the motivation or energy even tho i have sooooo many ideas...

Hi! Thank you for this message, it's very sweet -- and kind of ironic because I didn't write yesterday, so today my brain is screeching that I NEVER WRITE ANYMORE and I'm desperately trying to tell it, CHILL IT HAS BEEN 24 HOURS. But suffice to say: I feel that feel of it being really hard to motivate yourself to write even when you really, really want to do it.

I struggle a lot with acting on "self-motivated"/"internal" motivation alone (and I'm going to blame the ADHD for that). So even when it quote-unquote "should" be "enough" that I WANT to write, the fact that "it's just me" who wants it makes it hard to actually sit down and do it. That's part of why I'm the world's slowest writer on longfics, too! Only I care whether the story gets finished, so like... who cares? (Besides me, and who'm I? The queen??)

The best thing that I've ever done for my writing habits was to start the drabble project, because even though I rationally KNOW that no one actually cares that much whether I fill their prompt, I can CONVINCE myself that it affects someone else whether I write.

Knowing that I can make someone a little bit happy with my writing by filling their request bumps up my motivation from internal to external -- someone's putting pressure on me/counting on me/waiting for me, and I don't want to let them down. It means a lot to me to think that I can make someone even mildly smile with a contribution that I make to their day, so dangling that opportunity in front of me is enough to kick my butt into finishing my daily drabbles.

I think changing the language for myself from writing being an obligation to being an opportunity also helps -- even though my motivator is external pressure, it's still an opportunity to interact with someone through writing, not an obligation to fulfill. I miss LiveJournal's culture of interaction and discussion in fandom, and if I feel like I can recreate it a little bit by filling prompts, then good. I'm using writing to fill a hole that I have in my nostalgia-heart.

I'm also going to say that IT HELPS SO MUCH NOT TO LIMIT MYSELF TO ONE FANDOM OR PAIRING. I love so many things! I want to write all the things! Sometimes I run out of ideas for my biggest OTPs, and having other options to "recharge" with has been SO helpful. Even though it all depends (for me) on who is being requested at the moment, the breadth of pairings that people gift me the chance to write is a further stretch for my creative muscles, and that helps the drabbles work really well as a "warm-up" for longer writing. That obviously wouldn't work for everyone -- a lot of people genuinely have One True Pairing that they're interested in, and that's totally fine! -- but I've always been a multishipper in my heart and being able to swan around from fandom to fandom and pairing to pairing has been so refreshing and nice.

And honestly, the last helpful advice that I have is less fun and won't sound helpful, but it's the most important part: if you want to write, you just have to do it.

EVEN IF no one cares but you, EVEN IF you're kind of out of ideas, EVEN IF the words are all coming out wrong.

You have to choose whether you want to make writing part of your day-to-day life, and then commit to it if you do. I don't write at the same time every day, but I know a lot of writers who "go to work" at the same time every day and just write whether the creativity is flowing or not.

Writing is a creative muscle, and if you don't exercise it, it will atrophy, just like actual muscles. You can only improve if you do it. Reps and gains, or whatever. If you really don't have it in you to write that day, try to read and study writing craft or outline or research or make a moodboard for your story... anything that will still help that writing muscle flex.

The longer your writing muscle goes without writing, the harder it will be for it to "pull its weight" when you do sit down with the energy and creative flow and motivation, and that's super discouraging. And eventually, you stop sitting down at all. And that's a huge shame! If you love writing, you deserve to get to do it.

That's a big part of why I picked drabbles for my "exercise." They're only 100 words each! Pfft, I can do that! I'm all about endurance, not getting swole.

I would rather write a couple of tiny fics every day and know that I wrote than beat myself up for not working on my longfic every day.

And the BEST benefit of drabbles is that they ARE a good warm-up, so I have worked way more on my longfic in the last year than I would have without drabbles. You can cross-train your writing muscle to be able to work your way up to your Magnum Opus Big Honkin' Masterwerk... you don't have to START there.

So tl;dr, I would MOST suggest finding a way to externalize that motivation. Find a buddy who you can write for, or open up your inbox to prompts. Find the kind of prompts that work best for you -- some people love detailed prompts, but I'm a "one word and a pairing" kinda gal -- and remember that people requested them because you share a love for that fandom/pairing and you both are chasing joy. Even though it's external pressure, if it's stressing you OUT, then retool it. And try to just push through and write as often as you can even without the creativity flowing. Sometimes it's just not gonna, but you can poke around at something anyway and try to get those juices going.

Favorite thing about them:

Among the many, many things I find awesome about Hunter, one thing that’s always stuck out to me is the passionate streak constantly present in his character. Ironically, I’d argue he’s one of the most human-like characters in the agent story—unlike your colleagues in Intelligence, who hold emotion at arms length and behave as machines, or even some of your companions, a few of which choose to live life without a care or concern for others (stares at Kaliyo), Hunter is extremely invested in his cause, the state of the galaxy, and in the agent. And in the end, his genuine interest in the agent (regardless of nature) is the catalyst for the downfall of the Cabal.

Least favorite thing about them:

As for a least favorite… tbh there’s no singular thing I could think of. Even his reprehensible actions and (at times) downright cruelty play very important parts in developing his character. I suppose I very much dislike some of the interpretations of him I’ve seen, though this just boils down to differing opinions. OH—the stupid “identity reveal” at the end of the story. It sucks. It was done so badly. (He’s… he’s trans, guys. That’s all there is to it.)

Merry Christmas!

My dear friends, mutuals and followers. I'm wishing you the most beautiful christmas eve and comforting, relaxing holidays! After almost 2 years of living in midst a worldwide pandemic everyone is rightfully exhausted, frustrated and maybe you are even like me, who almost avoid to look forward to things or to plan things out, bc you want to spare yourself the disappointment if it's not going to happen... But... that's the kind of thinking I so hardly try/tried to get rid of / throughout the last months. Let's all try to remind us, that it's most and for all the small and the little things in life that are important and that we all need to listen to, to feel again what it really means: Family. Friends. Health. A job. A home. These are the things that matter, that I appreciate the most. And days like these remind me of that very strongly. That's kind of the purpose of christmas for me in the first place. To be together with the loved ones. To be thankful for what you have. To share and to give. Love, friendship, happiness, good food, presents... Sometimes it's hard to hold on. But on days like these I hope it's a little easier to remind ourselves of these things and take strength from them for the future.

1. Tell us about your current project(s)  – what’s it about, how’s progress, what do you love most about it?

welllll, i think i've answered this before too djkd! but, both of these are more like just a fun self indulgence project that I came to love the idea of it hehe! 1) regency vibes au - the title kinda give it away, but yeah, its actually a commoner x royalty vibes actually of one of my favs otp in it heh. and the progress, well its very slow - but its kinda like a graph, up and downs; but it hopefully has good progress all the way! and what i love most about it, well - i gained a new love for period movies now, and to imagine it in that setting; the whole process of it was so fun to think about. browsing for the aesthetics too - WAS SUCH A FUN PROCESS.

2) a second chance/flower & coffee shop au. - the title also gives it away like literally sjskksks! but, this is like more of just to explore the theme of second chances within well the same otp too heh! and, i feel like - its more of a meant to be thing too yknow? its one of my guilty pleasures tropes djkdkd! the progress is actually pretty slow? im still figuring out the pace of it all, there's like a bunch of flashbacks that kinda connect with the scenes during the present day which honestly feels pretty hard, but its fun! what do i love most about it, i think the exploration of it again and the fact that its kinda a projection of my little dream, coffee shop with books or maybe a flower shop too, if i cant make it irl - well, projection does help! hee

I have a few that I am quite proud hehe! So, im gonna lay it here! This is the first one, honestly - sibling regency banter. I think this part of the scene was definitely one of my favs cause it feels...just right yknow! hehe, also daphne belongs to @/wayhavenots! <3

"What's this?" She begins to read before an eye roll follows, earning a fit of laughter from Daphne herself at the reaction.

"Really Nicholas? You are old and rowdy, and you still read some gossip, unbelievable." Maia teased him, as he took a sip of his drink - an Earl Gray tea to be precise.

"And now you're drinking your best friend there, good for you." Daphne continues on the chuckles escaping her lips, before replying to Maia's comments.

"It's much entertainment through the gossip dear sister, and Nicholas here - was pretty fond upon hoping to find his own suitor through it, making it a much scandalous endeavor." Daphne replies as Nick almost spits out his drink, making the sisters giggle at the sight of him.

"Speaking of which, my work is much more important than finding a suitor. Mother already bit my ear off by the fact that I haven't found anyone yet, but I'm taking life by the breeze."

"Whatever it suits you then brother, here the story talks about the Prince's engagement with the Barsen's will be commencing soon. And I quote, "a special occasion" as the prince finally found maybe his one true love." Maia places the paper by her side, taking a bite of some biscuits laid on the table.

ALSO THERE'S THIS ONE CHUNK OF A SCENE THAT IM IN LOVE WITH, SO i shall share it here hehehe! its actually more of a draft scene, but it feels like one of my favs hehe. (this is the shorter version of it!)

“And you, your classiness - would you want to be queen someday if it was written in your destiny?” he asked her again, as Maia thinks about it. She takes the flower crown they were making earlier and placed it on top of her head again.

“I think I'll stick with being the queen of the lands. The cows as my subject, and I'll give you a proper answer then your highness.” She stands up, and waves to the empty field. A burst of laughter escaped her lips, as Kent stood by her side.

“However, I think the king of the fields is needed to tend its subject. Shall we?” Maia pushes out her hand, and he takes it gratefully. Another flower crown on top of his head, like the laughter, follows their footsteps, walking around the field, waving to a bunch of cows literally. They were being the rulers of the field after all.

5. What character that you’re writing do you most identify with?

I think the one that I identify the most while in my writing, is definitely maia and a bit of Raylene there. It's a mix of everyone actually, but those two sorta have a huge chunk of me in it!

16. Tried anything new with your writing lately? (style, POV, genre, fandom?)

I'm trying to dip into first style pov (But gosh, that feels so hard...but, trying!) and, I been trying to also write well, in historical vibes (which i tend to modernize lol, its hard jdkdk) and fandom - i might have some ideas in the future! but, those are kinda new changes, since I tend to stick with the norm sadly, but baby steps!

20. Tell us the meta about your writing that you really want to ramble to people about (symbolism you’ve included, character or relationship development that you love, hidden references, callbacks or clues for future scenes?)

OOOHH, this is a good question. I think in writing, I love writing callbacks and clues. In one of my AU's - I wrote a scene where, its talking about a possibility of the future, and like it happens. I love when they do that, the foreshadowing is something fun to put in it! For characters development, I think one of those elements I could talk about is definitely more of a scene where the mc grows in the period of time the main couple broke up. They have been through shit, and they learn and when they see each other again, they... are ready. They felt more secure, and they both grow in their own ways, by going through a lot of pain in between the periods of time!

This question is honestly so hard, because my brain tends to go empty but, those are some of the elements that i really love right now!!

Debris: speculation and what we know so far about...

Bryan

The character is from Texas, has no siblings, and his parents are both alive.

He served in MARSOC (Marine Special Forces) in Afghanistan, where he was in a military prison in some capacity (officer or detainee unclear, but an alternate reality he's called a war criminal, so he's likely detained).

FWIW, I'm a little surprised that in an alternative reality Bryan wasn't a part of Influx. He shares a similar kind of backstory with Anson Ash.

He carries a baseball on the plane like a momento stress ball (1x03).

He eats...a lot, literally thinks with his stomach, seemingly indiscriminately (#you could just pull up a chair to the buffet). Stale Peeps, weeks old sandwiches, rewarmed burritos, anything from the minibar, etc. Maybe he was a smoker in the time before and it killed his sense of taste. Or he just has an iron stomach from his time on active duty. In any case, food seems to be his unconditional OTP. I request a GIF supercut.

He seems to know a bunch of field operatives (Lester, Sharon, John the ME, Muntz, Beck from containment) from various Orbital teams, perhaps even worked cases with a few, along with everyone in Maddox's office. He's very cordial so presumably he likes them, but in stark contrast at least half seem to decidedly dislike him with baiting antagonism, some openly hostile. Sharon: "why are you smirking at me Bryan?" Muntz, the Laghari lab tech: "I've come across plenty like you...men who play by their own rules." Beck: "They only send in the A-team when they want the agents to survive...easy for you to say, I'm the one who had to tell his wife". No wonder he feels a bit ostracized. Perhaps his reputation (impulsive?) proceeds him or perhaps he's been labeled an "unlucky" partner that misfortune follows so he gets kept at a distance?

The exception to the above seems to be Gary Garcia, the former scientist that helps hide George. May be former partners if the audio during credit rolls is any indication, and knows about Bryan's health / injections. They appear close. Perhaps because they share a mentality: both presumably injured in their line of work at Orbital, and they know what it means to have to rely on yourself.

When we meet Finola and Bryan, it seems like they've been working together for a few weeks, stateside at least (Finola's quote 1x02: Been here 3 weeks, feels like 3 years) and that he's had at least two Orbital partners prior, one (Julian / Jules) that died on duty, and the other creepy Dutch guy still living, Niels. How many more partners has he been through? Is it protocol that they get reassigned/shuffled so often to follow the debris, or so as not to form attachments "This job is about being alone, it's supposed to be...we're a blip in other people's lives", or does his personality not play well with others, like from the pilot when he tells Finola "it's been a long time since I've worked with somebody who's looked at me like another human being."

Also in 1x01 when Bryan says, "So are we now saying the debris pulled [Kieran] from the ground and added meat to his bones" and Finola says no, he was cremated, Bryan looks almost disappointed like he was momentarily more hopeful than pragmatic. At first I thought this was just a lead up to introducing the fact that George Jones was alive, but maybe another plot point is that Bryan has lost someone in duty he wants back.

He carries a picture in his front pocket of a woman with some Persian/ Farsi(?) or Urdu(?) written on the back. It's hard to tell by the script, it could be neither. When confronted by that, his clone says "I can't let it go." Old flame that was lost? Or a partner of a fallen service member killed in action —I've lost brothers— that he couldn't save (is that part of Bryan's dark guilt / grief)? Civilian casualty of a Marine mission? In the pilot when he tells Isla "you have to tell her how much you need her, I know from experience...You will not be able to forgive yourself if you don't" is Bryan thinking of this woman?

EDIT: considering the next episode is called "Asalah," which could be a woman's name, maybe that's part of the text on the back of the photo. Pure speculation.

He counts on himself to be level and composed when it comes to his emotions and apologizes when he isn't. He loses that composure in the pilot when Isla talks about family therapy and fighting with her mother after Kieran's death: "I knew someone like her once." Was Bryan referring to himself, has he been through post-service therapy? Perhaps he developed a rift with his family or left home at an early age like she did?

Bryan would be great at pub trivia night. He always seems to have an odd fact ready about NASA tech, native legends, an article about a historical building that he read, Fleetwood PA, etc. He doesn't seem the type to keep facts on standby to impress, so perhaps he's a secret bibliophile even though Finola hassles him for not reading case files.

"Fin: Maybe we should run some more tests before we continue/ Bryan: I will cut bait if you want to / Fin; let's just look out for each other" 1x02 Bryan seems more cautious than impulsive, he does a good job of listening to Finola's concerns. Is that from experience? Did he get overconfident, mishandle debris, and get permanently injured, hence the frequent blood work and injections?

"This man saved my life." Why does Bryan trust Maddox implicitly? And when Maddox says in 1x07 "Investigate quietly. I want to keep the lights off. I don't want to lose anymore lives, Bryan, okay?" is that a word of warning specially for him? Does he have a body count? (see afforementioned question of frequent work partners turnover and having an unlucky reputation)

Bryan in protective of Finola when the CIA taps her apartment. It's the straw that turns his allegiance from his agency to his partner.

I still can't place why Bryan carries a baseball — it seems like it could be a red herring, but I can't get over the visual of Maddox playing catch with Dario and reading into it as some sort of surrogate bond — or why he has a chain around his neck (1x05). It's not service tags and probably not a ring, it's some kind of pendant: a large loop encircling a dull, perhaps tarnished, gray metallic disc. A patron saint? A piece of shrapnel? A piece of debris? Unclear, but it definitely has texture or an etching.

First headcanon that pops into my head ~ Hmm... Apart from adding him to the family tree of Riks as Rick's cousin... I headcanon him as neurodivergent in some way.

Favourite line from this character ~ Difficult but I'll go with: "I just want to say, don't bother trying to go see me in Superman 3, because I'm not in it." Typing it out doesn't yield the same effect as hearing him say it.

One way in which I relate to this character ~ Well, as anyone who's read a few of my posts on here will be aware of, I have a slight tendancy to waffle about things I'm interested in. It's really annoying sometimes - not being able to say things in a few words - because uni essays have word limits. Anyway, Kevin is nothing if not verbal diarrhea personified and, though I don't generally talk as much as him, if I'm comfortable around someone and they set me off on anything I'm interested/have some knowledge about, oof. 😅

Thing that gives me second hand embarrassment about this character ~ Kevin is sweet in comparison to most of Rik's other characters but he does still retain the quality of being crap at most things, for comedic effect. When he's beaten up by the park keeper or getting bollocked over the phone by Theresa Kelly's dad, they're both kinda wince worthy moments. Still very funny though. 😂

Alan B'Stard

Sexuality headcanon ~ Alright so, I do think that Alan is super duper cishet and that this is an important part of his characterisation. Because he's such a bigot, that fact that he encompasses certain characteristics - white, cisgender amab, born lower middle class and now a millionaire, privately educated followed by Oxbridge, heterosexual, southern English accent (yes, this matters) - is important as it heightens his position of privilege in society. It's been easier for him to get where he is... And he doesn't want anyone else (the "ordinaries") rising to his level. So I think Alan is just homophobic, rather than having internalised homophobia, because it makes much more sense for his character to me. That said, anyone is free to headcanon his sexuality however they wish. I was actually indirectly responsible for spawning a crack ship (UtterB'Stard or Rick X Alan) and I love the results. I just think, if we're looking at canon B'Stard and what he's meant to represent, he's absolutely heterosexual.

OTP ~ I don't think Alan is capable of any form of love - be it romantic, platonic, familial, anything - so when I say Sarah here it's not because I think they're adorable, in love and simply misunderstood. 😂 Alan and Sarah's marriage is one of convenience and a match made in hell. In s3 and 4 particularly they are an evil power couple and it's horribly delightful. Alan couldn't be married to anyone but a woman like Sarah, because Sarah is one of the few people who is able to best him and could perhaps be his undoing (she almost is a few times). I suppose he could also marry someone completely oblivious to who he really is, someone who falls for his charming facade at every turn, but they wouldn't really be a partnership, would they? They wouldn't really know Alan like Sarah does - and even then Sarah probably doesn't know every part of Alan. Whether or not Sarah could find a life partner in someone other than Alan is a different matter, as while Sarah isn't a nice person and has next to no moral qualms over Alan's exploits, it is arguable that she only gets worse because of Alan's influence. However, for Alan B'Stard? Well, they say you should keep your enemies close.

BrOTP ~ It's got to be Piers, really. Poor idiot. Although Alan calls him his "best friend" at least once, he's employing a grossly perverted definition of friendship. Alan doesn't have equals. Even those he works with and appears to have an understanding with at points, like Sir Greville, he'd stab in the back in a heartbeat. Because he's a Tory MP. As Sir Greville says of Alan and Piers in an attempt to smear Alan, they have a sadomasochistic relationship - and it's not a consensual one. Yet, amongst the darkness that TNS reflects, Piers and Alan are friends on the surface. And how things appear on the surface is all that matters in politics.

NOTP ~ I can see the reasoning but I don't really ship Alan and Piers. Sexualities aside, I doubt Alan would let Piers near his "perfect" body in that way, even though Alan would obviously be setting all the rules. There are plenty of other ways he can already get out his sadistic desires on Piers. Still, as I've said with other ships, you ship it? Go ahead, you foul pervert! 😂

First headcanon that pops into my head ~ I like the idea of Alan having something to do with Rick's parents' deaths, though I can't take credit for that idea. Hmm... Original Alan B'Stard headcanon... Okay, not a headcanon but, me and a friend have an AU where he gets turned into a demon looking creature for being such a gigantic twat.

Favourite line from this character ~ Oh god, there are far too many to choose from! I'll go for a classic: "You see, in the good old days, you were poor... you got ill... and you died!"

One way in which I relate to this character ~ Woah. Uh. I would sincerely hope I'm nothing like Alan! I guess I'll say, we both have an interest in politics? Although obviously from different angles and for vastly different reasons.

Thing that gives me second hand embarrassment about this character ~ I don't think anything does. You're not really embarrassed by Alan, you're horrified by him but unable to look away. Sort of... Ensnared. I guess that's the most embarrassing thing about Alan, the knowledge that he's so good at smiling for the camera and being everyone's blue eyed boy that he can fool millions of people. There are real Alan B'Stards who have popularity via similar principles. Isn't that a bit embarrassing? That all someone has to do is flash some charisma and a large enough portion of society to be a concern will throw themselves at their feet?

Cinnamon roll or problematic fave? ~ Oh, he's the most problematic of my faves by FAR. 😂

Thinking About Soriku

While it's no longer my OTP, SoRiku is and likely always will among my favorite KH ships. I admit that part of that is because I went in with a bias, due to a fan comic type thing that I read, prior to finishing the first KH game. After playing the games and seeing the community I shipped it more.

To be completely honest though, I didn't really see the ship outside of THE scenes in KH2 and through that symphony of sorcery scene in DDD. It was when I interacted with the community more that I realized how much there was to the ship. How they pointed out details like Riku technically sharing the paopu with Sora and that being the keychain on the combined keyblade dubbed "the gayblade" by the community. How jealous Riku acted in KH1 while suspiciously being more focused on one-upping sora than actually saving Kairi. How Riku did everything in his power to make sure Sora can come back safely in KH2 and 179 days, and of course the entirety of how their relationship is portrayed in DDD, with how Sora is disappointed with having to be separated from Riku and Riku always talking about Sora with almost nothing but positive things to say. All the other pieces of evidence that could point to hints of romantic attraction. From what I hear, people having a better understanding of the ship after interacting with the community is actually kinda common.

Soriku is one of those ships where the implications are subtle. If you're not looking for it, it's blink and you miss it, outside of a couple of stand-out scenes. If you ARE looking for it, it's extremely obvious to the point of almost coming off as intentional, especially post KH2 if you're looking at it from Riku's pov. I bet it's the work of the event planner:

Here's like, the thing with the community though. It's been at odds with a certain other group of shippers and they go at it A LOT, and it can make the community unbearable to be in sometimes. Not to mention how oversensitive some members of the community can be and how unwilling some of them are to live up to their past. The past of Sorikus being yaoi-obsessed fangirls who wrote and drew smut is real is very real and is a legacy that still lives on, even if it's not as bad as it used to be. There were consequently, children who saw that content. I understand Sorikus not wanting to acknowledge that past because

A. a lot of them consider it something that was a part of their cringy teen years and don't want to acknowledge it

and

B. Many Soriku shippers are genuinely queer and either aren't responsible for that content or fit into the prior category

And to be fair, a lot of the times when Kaisos bring this up, they do tend to have bad intentions and try to dismiss their own homophobic behavior, but at the same time if the yaoi side goes unacknowledged, especially when it comes to the older fan content, then it does seem like we aren't owning up to the fact that some of us are fetishy and it can leave and unwanted mark on the community. Also, yeah, going back to what I said earlier. Some of us are over-sensitive and do have a habit of calling people homophobic for saying that Kairi is Sora's most important person on their own platforms, and that's an issue too.

That being said, despite the community I still like the ship and it is still an S-tier pair for me, not GOD-TIER, but S-tier. When I actually remember how good their relationship is in the series, and good some of the fan content is, I can't bring myself to hate it.

Here's the other thing though. What if it actually happened? What if the series ended with Sora and Riku in an embrace saying that they'll always love and be there for each other, and then a strongly implied off-screen kiss? Regardless of how people feel about it, or what the intentions on Square and Disney's part, Sora and Riku ACTUALLY getting together would be a huge fucking deal. Not just for the KH community but for JRPGs and gaming in general. Hell, it'd be a huge mark in Disney history, as they would be among the few confirmed MAIN LGBTQ+ characters in a Disney property. Because of that people. will. riot. There will be many calling it the product of an agenda. There will be idiots saying that this ruined their childhood (which honestly if THAT's their argument, they didn't have a childhood worth ruining) and there will be people angry at Disney and ALL OF JAPAN for "forcing" children to see homosexual content. Probably giving prejudiced conservatives who like to be controversial, leeway to the yaoi argument as means of racism and homophobia. There's also the question of narrative meaning in Kingdom Hearts. First off there's the obvious, which is the writers will have to address Sora's relationship with Kairi else it feels disingenuous, and that can get messy rather quickly, especially because a lot of Kairi's relevancy is linked to her relationship with Sora. Pairing him with Riku can risk undermining his relationship with Kairi and if she doesn't do anything with Aqua and the other characters, can reduce her down to nothing but wasted potential, nostalgia, a cute design, and a cool backstory. As sad as it is, a big part of her appeal is her romantically coded relationship with Sora.

The series has always been about friendship first and foremost before everything else, even if it does value other types of relationships. Sora and Riku are considered by the creators, to be what the series is all about. What does it say about the power of friendship if the two leading characters were in love the entire time? This is less of a narrative issue with Kairi because she was never portrayed to be Sora's friend. She was always written to be a love interest to him in some way. Whereas with Riku, he was always written to either be Sora's rival, or embarrassingly close "friend", at least on a surface level. Sora and Riku getting together romantically could work to undermine the theme of friendship being the most powerful form of magic. Both Kaisos and Soriku's would probably just say "WELL IT CAN BE ABOUT BOTH", but part of what makes it so special in the eyes of many people is that it's NOT about both. That it consistently keeps its friendship theme and never safely comes out of it by making overly big moments with the love interest (except for Kairi single-handedly being the most important person to Sora. Why wouldn't it be Kairi AND Riku). So that initial message getting underplayed can risk taking the series down a peg for a lot of people.
