Life or Death

Hey, people. I know I was pretty inactive recently (yet again) but that's what work does to you - tiredness becomes one of your constant companions. Nevertheless, once I saw a BlitzbeeWeek2023 announcement, I just knew that I had to participate in it because it's one of my favorite OTPs.

So, without further ado, this's my first work for the event! Like couple of other pictures along the road (ideally I plan to upload on a daily basis, haha), the scene you see here is taken from my fanfic called TFA: Icarus (or from my AU, so to speak). You can check the teaser and soon to be updates on a main work [here] if you feel like it. An image of this interaction was born in my head a while ago, but I thought that uploading it now would be a more productive thing to do prior I change my mind and let it rot in my sketches folder XD.

All in all, thank you, admin of @blitzbee-week, for making this event, I hope to see plenty of other mutual fans of this ship gathering this week to show our love for Blitzwing and Bumblebee.

Mr. D warned her from the beginning about Luke, even silently in 'play pretend' because she was becoming more like her old self (reckless and crazy, just like him) when she was falling in love with Luke, and it isn't a bad thing but definitely takes away fro what her and Luke have been working at as THE counselors of CHB. Luke's always been good with words as a son of Hermes to the point that it even fools Trouble to some extent, there comes a point where her as an amazing actress can't tell when he's lying---and he learned that from her...

this made me giggle OKAY HEAR ME OUT LMFAOOOO ever since they got together (in the span of a little over a year before his betrayal), they always sleep in the same bed when they can as mentioned in 'now that we're older' because they barely have time to themselves in the day....when 'when the chaos is through' is posted, that's when Luke agrees to side with Kronos in his ultimate belief to protect Trouble from impending war and eventually give her a better life outside of CHB. (imagine kronos dressed as eliza schuyler and we're set because luke essentially brings him to bed with them for half of their relationship and she doesn't know LMFAOOOOO) and well yeah yall know his decline after TLT but he's in too deep to fall back

I'm erasing myself from the narrative, Let future historians wonder how Eliza reacted, When you broke her heart, You have torn it all apart // I'm watching it burn, Watching it burn, The world has no right to my heart, The world has no place in our bed, They don't get to know what I said, I'm burning the memories, Burning the letters that might have redeemed you // You forfeit all rights to my heart, You forfeit the place in our bed, You'll sleep in your office instead, With only the memories of when you were mine //I hope that you burn

The beginning part reminds me of the confrontation scene in 'love is a blister' where the counselors put Trouble on trial for loving Luke---the reality of it is they and everyone at camp only know what Luke & Trouble have shown them, but everything between them is private and their own. They didn't expect him to leave her behind. There are a lot of references throughout the series and especially in 'solipsism' where his last time alive as his waning sense of self he goes to visit Trouble who's fresh from visiting Annie in 'love is a blister' and he literally is burning through his old self as kronos overtakes his body. He couldn't imagine not being able to say goodbye before becoming true vessel and well in TLO, teeeechnically what happens and what i plan to write i--[GUNSHOTS]

SGU Week Day 4 (Yes, 4!!): Favorite Ship

This is my new OTP. Idk exactly what it is, but buddy, I will take my serotonin from wherever I can get it these days.

Just kidding, I know exactly why I enjoy this. Most of it is that I just really, really like Amanda (don't hate me; despite what my memes may lead you to believe, I am not a Rush Enjoyer, because I know he would make me cry every day if I had to interact with him lmao), but OH MY GOD am I a sucker for The Grumpy One Is Soft for the Sunshine One. I love seeing them feel so safe and comfortable together. I love the ease of their interactions. I don't think anyone cares about spoilers at this point, but good Lord, she almost killed him and he wasn't even mad 😂

I NEVER enjoy canon ships because they feel like forced hetero nonsense. Another reason I enjoy this pairing so much is that to me, a demisexual, it feels very much like a demisexual love story. Think about it. Falling for your best friend, pining for the same guy for years... that's not unique to us, but it's definitely part of the demisexual experience (I'm not a piner, but most demis I meet seem to be). Im aware that they were originally supposed to sleep together in Sabotage, but, again as a demi, I'm glad they ended up taking a different route. I don't enjoy seeing characters who barely know each other hooking up, not because I'm prudish, but because I have no investment in the characters. This... We had to work for this. 🥰

In searching for other fan content, I've discovered that Rush and Amanda aren't a well-liked pairing (go figure, I like a canon ship and it's one no one likes lmaooooooo). I've found that I see this pairing quite differently from its critics; to me, it felt very female-focused. Yes, Amanda clearly only exists to be The Main Guy's love interest, but I found that, apart from the fridging, the ship was very much focused on her desires. She was not a thing to be pursued. She had agency and took initiative. She felt like a whole person to me, not just a pretty doll.

I also enjoyed the hell out of the awkwardness. I don't get secondhand embarrassment. I get the opposite of that. I LIVE for cringe. fr what even was this scene???

I drew them~ They're gonna hold hands bang >:] As you can see from the date, I drew this last year, very shortly after watching Seizure for the first time (I colored it yesterday, though, for this). I liked this pairing right away, and honestly, I was hoping Rush would pay Amanda a visit on earth via the stones after Sabotage. I'm not exactly thrilled that the writers chose to go for two double-fridgings, but the computer ghost thing creates a lot of possibilities for fanfic. I'd also like to have seen them interacting on earth before the Icarus mission.

As a final thought, I also love seeing someone who has been so deeply hurt learning to love again. I'm so disappointed SGU didn't get more seasons, because this would have been interesting to explore further with Rush and Amanda as a proper couple once she got off her bullshit and accepted that he did love her oh my God Mandy he killed that guy for you don't stand there and try to tell him he doesn't love you godddddddddddddd

In my experience, the key to a successful relationship is to find your person, and then you just annoy the shit out of each other for the rest of your lives (consensually, of course).

I also fully believe that there is no way on God's green earth that Rush would ever willingly watch a Syfy Channel original movie.

He does like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid... Through shitposting with friends, it has become "canon" that Bonanza is one of like, 3 TV shows Rush actually watches. The other two are Nova and House. Amanda, who watched a lot of classic sitcoms with her grandparents as a child with no social life, is unfortunately not a fan of westerns.

That's okay. He can fix her. 🤎

I have an ongoing series (up to 5 parts now) where Rush Definitely Understands the Trolley Problem. This is the first one.

Literal perfection, main character + his narrative foil, deontology vs. utilitarianism depicted in the most empathetic of ways, finally culminating and coming full circle in forgiveness and understanding of the complexitiy of the situation at "I tried."--"I know." Without Thomas and Teresa the story would not exist, and the arc they span over the series is by far the most powerful to me. OTP <3

Newtmas

I loved it when I first joined the fandom and then burned out of it a little. Difficult at times that it's so predominant in the fandom; if they're not one of your top ships you have to make a conscious effort to filter Newtmas content out for your own piece of mind. Also I seem to like different things about them than many of the other shippers so I don't vibe with all Newtmas content out there. Which is fair and valid, the reasons people like certain ships are manifold and varied, which is exactly what makes fandom as wonderful as it is. <3

Thominho

A bit of the same as Newtmas, when I discovered it I loved it a lot, but I think I've since written and read about them plenty and I'm more or less saturated on them. Mostly I wrote As Long as I Watch Over You as a canon compliant fic, and to me that's exactly the way they could get together.

Nalby

It took me a long time to see them (mainly due to how Alby commits suicide in the books which is just not something I cope with well), but now I like them a lot! However I do find it a tedious ship to fix since Alby dies so early on in the series. weaving golden threads of fate was the first (and so far only) nalby fic i've written. (This one is canonverse though.)

Minally

Cool! They're definitely interesting characters to smash together bc they're both so stubborn and full of themselves (while at the same time probably harboring deep insecurities). I love Marathon Man by @crestfallercanyon

Sonyarriet

Love! I have a started Glade fic for them (Run, Baby, Run) that I really hope to finish one day. It's going to start out as them butting heads often and have a.. repressed feelings to lovers arc. :P

What I can say though is that many people seem to love a fluffy and wholesome arc for them in mostly sfw fics, so as an angst, tragedy, darkfic and smut lover there's not as much for me out there. (There seems to be a general trend for wlw content being much more wholesome and fluffy than mlm content, the reasons for which are varied and complex.)

LOVE!!!!!!!!!! Especially at the glade I think they could have amazing dynamics!!! The way Minho comes back from running the maze in the first book and flops down onto the ground and commands Alby to get him water laksdjfalkjsfdsdajklf. (Also a nice ship: Minewby!! (Minho x Newt x Alby))

Matthew was one of those kids who just really wanted to be held. Or, rather he just wants to be a part of whats going on. Frankly, that worked out pretty well for him, as he could usually just sit with his father, or cling to an aunt or uncle. Spent half the time he was supposed to be in bed as a little kid trying to get into his parents room, because how is anyone supposed to sleep in a room all alone??? What if he missed something fun and important in the morning??? If hes a whole ten feet away, then who knows what adventures he might miss out on in the thirty seconds it takes him to cross the hallway? Travesty! 

 Yeah, he usually ended up back in his own room.

I really don't want Cassie to put him in a relationship. I would much prefer if he had his healing without getting into a romantic situation. Personally, I like to believe he was the token single family member for several decades, then met a guy once he was like, 40, then went and lived on a beach somewhere. Living his best life.

He's just so pleasantly cynical. He definitely feels like someone you might meet IRL. His sibling role mixing with the “stand in father figure” is very interesting, and its very apparent throughout the books how much he genuinely, dearly, loves his family. His almost deadpan demeanor is straight up hilarious, and the thinly veiled romantic interest in Thomas, that very quickly turns into “lets have sex in this carriage” is a highlight of TLH.

He cant cook for shit. He tried once, and did something simple successfully, which lulled him into a false sense of security. Thomas took him to a suite in London for a sort of honeymoon and Alastair tried to live out his aesthetic dreams by cooking. Pan is on fire. Apartment is on fire. Apartment building is on fire. The poor mundane police who can't really tell what's going on, but something feels super weird? On fire. Thomas decides he will do any future cooking. 

unpopular opinion

Alastair was in the wrong in Nothing But Shadows, and Matthew wasn't in the wrong for not wanting to like him. I see a lot of people on tumblr talk about how it's ridiculous that Matthew is mad at Alastair years later, because it's like “being mad at someone for a jab in highschool”. But the thing is it really isn't. This was Edwardian england. Theres few things more offensive than directly insulting your close family. On top of that, the shadhowhunter gossip chain (which, at that moment, involved Alastair.) was spitting directly on everything both Henry and Charlotte had ever done, and boy all boy did they do a lot. I genuinely have trouble thinking of anything Alastair could say that is worse than this.

 Obviously,  I love Alastair as much as everyone else. His behavior during his time at the shadowhunter academy is nothing more than a traumatized adolescent trying to make sense of the world. 

However, that doesn't mean he wasn't super out of line. Personally if I was Matthew, Alastair would have to grovel for my forgiveness, and even then I wouldn't be interested in forging a very close relationship.

Favorite thing about them: Fiddleford's got such manic energy! He just drank the alien milk in the Journal! He tried to hit the hide behind with a banjo! He just likes makin' shit, even if it has no use or is dangerous! He's a big ball of jitter and PURE rabid ambition.

Least favorite thing: Hirsch said in the DVD commentary and in a stream that McGucket is nonconfrontational, more of a follower, and that this is why he didn't do more to stop the portal. This frustrates me to no end, and I am FULL of thoughts on it.

brOTP: If Myserty Trio was canon? Stan and Fiddleford. But also Ford and Fidds being best friends makes me so happy.

random headcanon: I feel like Fiddleford knew about Bill, even if Ford never says it in the journal. I think Ford just didn't know. fanfiction exploring this kind of became less common after J3 when there was no indication that Fiddleford met Bill, but Fiddleford having an experience with Bord??? It gives me goosebumps.

unpopular opinion: I feel like a lot of people like to make Fiddleford the "common sense" one out of Ford and Fiddleford, or that Fiddleford was the more "domestic" of the two. Like Ford would go do something dangerous and reckless and also he'd burn the kitchen down trying to cook, and then Fiddleford would shake his head and go "well, might as well cook dinner and prepare some bandages for that scallywag for when he comes back tsk tsk tsk." No, I think they both *thought* they were the Common Sense one, but neither of them were, and that the shack was more of a science frat house, just accumulating a mess, while they were both working there. It's like when Fidds drank the Space Milk and Ford was in the journal like "oh my god i cant believe he did that." I read that like "I can't believe YOU didn't." So yeah, I'm not a personal fan of "common sense househusband" readings of him. I also disagree with people who are like "Fiddleford did nothing wrong uwu" - if he knew the apocalypse was coming but didn't do more than just erase his mind, I would say that's not correct. BUT I don't think he's unsympathetic or a bad person. I think it makes him complicated. And I think him being complicated is another one of my favorite parts of him.

Nancy’s gearing up for yet another complaint when Ace stops suddenly at the top and she realizes why. The trees slope down ahead of them leaving the perfect view of the sunset. The sky is streaked with every color—red and orange, pink and purple, crimson and blush, peach and periwinkle.

Ace uses his grip on her hand to pull her arm around his waist and loops his around her shoulders, pulling her in against his side.

When Stars Ignite: idk if people who loved Daisy Jones would like this or bang their heads against the wall, but ideally, the first

Icarus: Bitches who have way to much sympathy for arsehole antagonists and love a corruption arc (it’s me, I’m bitches)

Lemons: Fans of inappropriately dark humour. Hopefully, people who have gone through a similar mental health struggle that Charly has.

as will be a constant refrain throughout this post I have said this before but I have an overactive older sibling instinct so the most important thing here is that he is a little guy doing his best. in terms of actual traits, ik some people find him bratty but that’s always confused me bc like over and over again he goes out of his way to help people. like the whole b plot of icarus agenda stands out as being real endearing and yeah it’s goody two shoes characterization whatever but it is my god given right to appreciate some kindness in a character. it’s a harsh world yknow? but conversely i also like when he’s a bitch bc i think it’s funny.

i just. also. this requires giving credit to r*n m**re whose heart i would eat in the marketplace etc etc but the first duty is so fucking episode and the progression to journey’s end conceptually is really fascinating. execution of journey’s end? needs improvement. but the idea is SO. it’s so. like yes there are really interesting undertones to wesley’s character present in seasons 1-4 but i think a lot of them are far more meaningful when you return to them after the late season episodes. like. there’s a reason i think about the first duty-lower decks-journey’s end arc all the fucking time.

from a writing perspective they fucked up by not letting him make any significant mistakes pre first duty which is part of why first duty is so good. like that’s just not...how making a character works. i personally think it would’ve been good to have him fail the psych test the first time because there would be a lot to work with there but in s1 that just wasn’t the show they were making. from like a personality perspective. i mean i cant blame him for being the most repressed bitch alive in several key ways but please go to therapy.

ok i gotta use this opportunity to get this off my chest (again. because i think this was in my post first duty rant somewhere on my other blog that i gotta find again) but like it’s so weird when the show tries to convince us he has meaningful friendships with kids his own age on the enterprise because like. he definitely doesn’t. his friends each show up for like one episode either for a plot point or literally just to prove to his mom or whoever that he has friends but he spends all his free time either alone or with the senior officers. he does not have friends his own age and i think that very much plays into his dynamic with the squadron later. that said i do think his dynamic with riker is fun and i also love writing his friendship with jaxa now that i’ve nailed down a vibe that was kind of eluding me lmao.

i mean. wesley x literally any of the adult main characters but i feel like the one ive run into the most is wesley x riker which is like an incredible misreading of their dynamic to me and also like. even if it’s after wesley turns 18 it implies that riker was Waiting For Him To Turn 18 which is. uh. uhhh. don’t like that! and like ik it’s not 1:1 writing a fic about something equals glorification of that thing, i understand that sometimes people want to explore a dynamic Because there’s something wrong with it that they want to examine, but a lot of times with this specifically im like oh you wanted to ship two white guys and picard was too bald for you.

man i gotta stop posting every thought i have the moment it comes into my head bc now im like uhh what haven’t i already said. ive already said that half his classmates definitely think he’s dead post journey’s end. i think he likes the idea of marriage because he only got to see it very briefly with his own parents but this is another concept that’s idealized to him, and whether or not he ever manages it himself is up to your personal perception of postcanon. i think he’s bad at poker because he has not accepted his queerness but the correlation there is just that that happened to younger me. i think he talks in his sleep.

She’s another tale of Icarus. I’m probably gonna reach too hard here but (co-concluded with Everest) the tale of Daedulus and Icarus is kinda the tale of Lei Ling and Aero. Master architect creates a labyrinth that they become trapped in and in the process of escaping, lose something very dear to them. Lei Ling is the architect, and Aero is Icarus. Always flying too close to the sun, too confident in her own abilities when she doesn’t even know their limits. The labyrinth is the ‘perfect life’ she’s carefully constructed for herself as Lei Ling. PLUS the panel where she’s falling and her cape disintegrates into feathers!
