More Short SFF Books!
Guys! Thank you so much for the love on my post on short SFF books! It was a lot for a tiny little blog like me lmao, and it made me feel very appreciated - thank you, again!
I thought that because of all that love, this deserved a second edition. So, since short SFF is definitely my specialty, and I won't stop reading these novellas any time soon, here's some other SFF short books I think might be worth your time!
Also, check out part one of this list if you’d like some more books in this vein :)
The Monk and Robot Duology, starting with A Psalm For The Wild-Built, by Becky Chambers
152 to 160 pages
duology (so far!! I'm hoping and praying, Ms. Chambers!)
queer rep of all kinds, but our protagonist is non-binary!
If you know me, then it's a surprise this didn't make it into the first edition of this list. I love Monk and Robot! They're My Favorite Books, so rest assured that they come very highly recommended!
This one follows Sibling Dex, a disciple of Allae, the god of small comforts, as they decide to change the course of their professional life and become a travelling tea monk. Along the way, they meet Mosscap, a very friendly robot, with one question - "what do humans need?" There's just one problem: robots have been living in the wild for generations, and they haven't interacted with humans since they gained consciousness. Can Sibling Dex handle this responsibility?
I hardly have the words to describe this one. This is a sci-fi, I guess, but it feels like a fantasy -- it's just so atmospheric and draws you into this utopian and equitable world full of nature and community. Monk and Robot really emphasizes the best parts of life, the best parts of humanity. It will warm your heart because you will see your life in it - in all it's smallness and its gorgeousness. It's perfect if you want something that's short, sweet, and with a conflict that doesn't span the whole entire world, but is focused instead on two people - or, I guess, on one person and a robot.
Mandatory reading for everyone! Get your hands on a copy, you won't regret it!
Our Lady of Endless Worlds Duology, starting with Sisters of the Vast Black, by Lina Rather
176 to 192 pages
duology
sapphic rep
We're staying on theme here, with another religious-y pick. I give you: Sisters of the Vast Black! This one is about nuns! In space!
Some time into the future, the Catholic Church is alive and well. The sisters of the Order of Saint Rita live on their (get this) living ship, a gigantic animal they use to navigate between space stations and planets. I think this one is worth it just for that concept, I fell in love with it!
This book follows the Sisters as they receive a distress call from a colony, and find out that the Church's means might be more nefarious than they seem. But, mostly, it's about the sisters themselves, as they grapple with their faith, the ever-changing universe and the questionable morality of the Church.
I loved this one! Not only are the characters very compelling, the setting is just so cool. This concept of the living space ship is so fucking neat, and the duology gets down to the nitty-gritty of it. Not to mention, the idea of religion, and contemporary religion in particular, surviving mostly unchanged into the future is so interesting! I don't know if it's me being nerdy, but I just found the concept here so, so compelling, I couldn't resist bringing these books home with me!
The Seventh Perfection, by Daniel Polansky
176 pages
standalone
I don't remember it being queer, but I could be wrong??
I guess this is also kind of religious in a way lmao. The Seventh Perfection follows Manet as she searches for someone for the God-King, who runs the kingdom she lives in, using her perfect dominion over the seven perfections to help her.
The unique thing about this book, though, is how the story is told. Instead of following Manet's perspective as she goes through her city, interviewing people, we only see one side of her dialogue. As Manet speaks to a shopkeeper, for example, we are only treated to his answers. In this manner, its up to the reader to put some pieces together.
Although it is nothing too complicated, - especially for veterans of books such as The Locked Tomb or fantasy behemoths like A Song of Ice and Fire, with their crazy amount of characters - the structure is pretty unique. Like Esme N pointed out in her Good Reads review of this one, it kind of reads as if you're a POV character in a videogame, going NPC to NPC. I'd say this one is for the anyone who likes different approaches to stories in SFF, and enjoys being a little bit confused!
Elder Race, by Adrian Tchaikovsky
201 pages
standalone
no queer rep that I remember, either
Elder Race is an interesting one, as well. This one is definitely for fans of books with almost anthropological approaches to culture, such as The Left Hand of Darkness and A Memory Called Empire. Elder Nyr is a scientist, sent to another planet in order to explore it, who lives in his space ship. Except that, for the locals, that space ship is a giant tower, and Nyr is its mysterious sorceror of legend. Now, Lynesse comes to search for him so that he can help her deal with the threat of demon.
The result of the interaction between Lynesse and Nyr, and the fact that each of them have POV chapters, means that this reads as almost two separate books. One of them is a sci-fi, and that's Nyr's perspective, who is from a society with very high-end technology, and sees all problems as matters of science. Meanwhile, Lynesse sees everything as magical, so hers reads almost like a fantasy. It makes for such an interesting experience!
I think about this book constantly, and have been wanting to reread it for ages. I quite liked this particular approach, not to mention the concept! Plus, I love books that go deep into culture like this one. And, of course, it's from prolific and famous author Adrian Tchaikovsky, who wrote the Children of Time series, and although I haven't read the rest of his work, I've heard this is a good starting off point in case you want to get into his other books.
Princess Floralinda And The Forty-Flight Tower, by Tasmyn Muir
146 pages
standalone
non-binary rep
I'm always singing Ms. Muir praise, and that's for a reason! This one follows Princess Floralinda, who is locked up in a (guess!) forty-flight tower by an evil witch. She has placed one monster at every floor, and no prince has managed to get through the first one, let alone trudge up the stairs to rescue Floralinda.
With impeccable sense of humor, which is a trademark of Ms. Muir's fiction, we follow Floralinda's plight as she waits for someone to come rescue her - and then eventually notices no-one might be coming, after all. Her character development is astounding, and it's so satisfying to follow her. It's also just so impressive that so much can be packed into so little pages when it comes to her arc.
And I forgot to mention - there's a fun fairy character who will help Floralinda on her way! I think it's worth reading just for that!

Assassin Heir? Crime Fighting Furry? NOPE NO THANK YOU!
"Danyal, its time to end this game and return with me."
Danny should had known Clockwork had something in mind when he sent him on this mission. He knew he should had been suspicious of the time keeper when he noticed the little 'this is going to be fun' smile on his face when he sent Danny off into the portal.
"Get back here you demon spawn 2.0!"
But how was he supposed to know that he'd wake up in this world version of himself in a pit full of corrupted (AND NASTY) ectoplasim at the tender age of five or that when he swam up to the surface he'd be meeting face to face with what was apparently a cult.
"-O just spotted him a block away! I'll try to cut itty bitty bridie off!"
An Assassins Cult his, new to him, loving yet a little insane mother was in charge of (though during the few months he stayed in the compound he heard rumors and gossip from maids and others alike that if his grandfather returned from the dead he'll take over once again, no doubt punish Talia for creating another heir after the failure of the last one, most likely was going to kill Danny and that... that was can of worms Danny didn't wanna deal with yet)
"Ten bucks says they try to stab RR when we get the feral thing home"
"...Losers bet...."
Danny had lived with his mother for a while after being brought back from the 'dead' for apparently the first time, it turned out training a five year old with an actual sword and a dumbass hidden revenge seeking teacher was a terrible idea.
"I swear if this one tries to murder me like the others I'm asking Zatanna if there is a curse on me."
He dealt with her high demands of perfection, the endless training, and the constant comparisons to his apparent older brother Damain... Who didn't know Danny, or rather Danyal existed.
Nor did his father (when Danny, using his powers he's kept hidden since 'waking' up in this Realm, he sneaked his way around the base and discovered how he came into the world. And tbh he couldn't blame his mom how she made him, she was an assassin first and foremost, being naturally pregnant would had painted a target on her for to long... but he also felt it was unfair and an asshole move on his unsuspecting father as well)
"As your elder brother I demand you to stop running!"
Now don't get him wrong, he did like his new mother (total badass assassin lady and all that) and he knew she loved him in her own... deadly way. But yeah, she really shouldn't be taking care of kids. He could tell she struggled with wanting to be a normal mother but her first instinct after so many years was to be an assassin first.
Something she was trying to engrave into Danny with as well.
"Ah, hello Beloved. I see you've learned of our Danyal."
"Talia. Back away from him and leave Gotham now."
"I can not do that. The League needs an heir and since Damian refuses to return... I have decided to create a new one and I shall not be leaving until he returns with me."
"Talia."
Hence why when Danny, or rather Danyal al Ghul had gotten decent control over his powers he decided to leave the League. Again nothing wrong with the life his mom leads, to each their own, but he... really, really didnt want to be an assassin. Or an assassin heir.
So here he was, after almost a year on the run, using his powers and training to out smart and out maneuver his mother and her many band of Assassins, in Gotham. One of the last places he ever wanted to run to cause he knew his father and brother lived here.
It was just his luck that his mother had managed to intercept his train ride that passed into Gotham for a few hours and forced him to run into the city...
Add her assassins into the mix and running into Robin, who heard from Oracle his mother had been spotted chasing a young boy across the city, that same night.
After that it became a full on "catch me if you can" chase for not only his mother but for the batclan as well.
And after two whole days of chase, it seemed like the final showdown was about to begin because everyone was on top of this rooftop, his mother and her assassins on one side, his father and the batclan on the other and Danny well... he was right in the middle of all of it.
He just had to hope no one would notice him once the fighting started...

I have an idea,Lia angel🪽can you please write Daemon x Hightower!reader where she is Otto youngest daughter and she is religious like Alicent and her father betrothed her to Daemon?Maybe with a little bit of 😏😏Thank you my angel🤍🤍
⊱ •There is no sweeter innocence than our gentle sin
Daemon Targaryen x fem!reader
Tumblr media
-Summary:In order to gain full power,Otto Hightower betrothed both of his daughters in the House of the Dragon.
-Warnings:Age gap,a little bit of smutty time,religious topics.
-Thank you for requesting and let me know what you think🫶🏻🩷
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
The wind that caressed her bare back no longer carried with it that scent of saltiness that had weighed down her nostrils and kneaded her mouth,while sobs,wheans and bells had shaken her violently in following the ship and the wake of foam that moved away from the beach of Dragonstone and disappeared beyond the horizon.
It had become a pleasant breeze with floral and fruity hints,which rippled her skin filling her with chills,although Lady Y/n Hightower,youngest daughter of Otto Hightower the Hand of the King,was not cold.
She could not feel cold under the scorching sun of the island on which she had been abandoned by her family.Her father who gave her a quick kiss on the forehead and her older sister who cried silently with her,to be alone with her betrothed,the Rogue Prince Daemon Targaryen, not when it was her own body that radiated heat,turning it on from the inside.
Maybe earlier,those days were her father gave her the information of his new plan.Before,perhaps,she had perceived the icy breath of what being married to a man like her future husband would mean,but now... Now those endless tears that had blinded her eyes and moistened her beautiful face had also dried.
«Father,Smith,Warrior,Mother,Maiden,Crone,Stranger.»Y/n whispers those names in her mind with her eyes closed,as if praying could purify her of what is happening to her body.
By the way Daemon hands creep under her nightgown and run through her skin,lingering on places she never dared to explore even on her own.Her hands instead she’ll the rosary of the Seven,to prevent herself from pushing him away or to bring him even closer.
Her whole body felt on fire,her immaculate skin was covered in goosebumps as the night sky engulfed her figure.Daemon had been waiting for her body,for her mind,soul and heart to be completely his.Maybe he suggested to Larys Strong to suggest to that cunt of her father to have her hand to him out of spite,maybe he did because Y/n had always been kind and gentle towards him unlike her father.
What he was certain of was that in that moment she looked like a holy figure,with her hair all sandy,her lips swollen,the skin of her jaw still covered in spit and wine.She looked like one of those gods that she loved tho pray and only now,taking in every inch of her body,he understood why people were religious.Why they needed something to turn to,someone to get on their knees for and chant their names.
Daemon wasn’t a religious person,but he liked to think that the gods had made Y/n just for him.
It was easy in the beginning,when it all started just to see Otto Hightower rage as the prince gave his younger daughter all those attentions.But after a short time,Daemon started to realize that there was something more that was pushing him to always look at her,to caress the back of her neck,to toy with her hair.
It was only when she told him that she prayed for him every night before going to sleep,that everything changed.No one has aver prayed for Daemon,maybe his brother had prayed him to change,but he never went down to his knees before his bed and asked to the gods to always protect him.
From that day he started to pay her more attention,to see the shy way she carried herself,always looking down at her feet,never saying anything without being asked.Always at her father side.She was wasted like this,such a young and beautiful girl that could bring the whole world to its knees to worship and cherish her just like the goddess she was.
When Daemon had caught the whispers of her father wanting to send her back to Old Town to become a Septa,he had to intervene.
He knew Y/n wouldn’t never gave herself to someone like him willingly,not without a promise.And so it was done,in less than a month they would’ve been husband and wife and he could have all the time to see her shine for who she really was,without the dark cloud of her father shadow on her.
Daemon wanted her to want him as he wanted her.Desperately.He wanted to make her shiver from his touch,he wanted to hear her voice breathless and shaky.Oh he wanted to hear her say his name like a prayer,like he was her new god.Full of devotion.
«You should stop crying,Y/n,am I hurting you?»Daemon murmured above her chest,his eyes not leaving the precious and untouched skin of her breast.
«T-that's not what I want.»she lied,her voice was weak and she couldn’t keep her eyes open.
Daemon takes her nipples in his mouth,one at a time and she can’t stop them from becoming erect and turgid.Her mother made her believe that no one could suck her breasts except her children,that sex was only meant for child-bearing but right now Y/n feels anything but a mother and a pure virgin.She felt dirty,she felt like a whore,she felt good for the first time in her life.
«You are a liar.»her betrothed taunted her,his rosy lips were soft,his tongue warm and wet made her thighs clench.
«Father,Smith,Warrior.»she whispered again,one of her hands was now grasping at Daemon long silver hair as he groaned.
Y/n dwells on those figures with a hint of fear,aware that none of them will come to save her now.Not her father who sold her to the Rogue Prince in marriage.Not the warrior,her sworn protector,that was waiting at the castle for Daemon to be done with her before escorting her to her maidens.In the absence of the smith,her father trusted a demon,Larys Strong,and his advices to strength Alicent oldest son claim to the throne by forging their union just to have Daemon on their side against Rhaenyra when war will come.
«You want this.You want me.»Daemon said looking up at her with lustfull eyes,releasing her nipples.
Y/n face was burning red,her lips were quivering with soft prayers«You should s-stop.»she pleaded.
He was still holding her,his fingers felt like pure fire on her ribs.He kissed his way down from under her breast,savoring the sweet perfume of strawberries and the clean and sinful taste of her immaculate skin.
«Stop where?Here?»he asked,he bit and sucked right under her ribcage making her gasp.
His hands were hiking up the gown of her white nightgown,the smooth and silky texture of her bare legs made his head spin.
«Daemon.»she called for him breathlessly.
«What do you want?Tell me,my beautiful princess.»he whispered.
She tries to stay motionless like a statue,but her body trembles,quivers,while he puts a finger in her and then a second, making her find her more wet than she would have liked.
Her language pronounces aloud the names of the Seven,to prevent herself from yelling at him to stop or to keep going forever.
«You want all this, you want me.»he reminds her,taking in all of her beauty.
«How could I?You're a horrible man.»
She spreads her legs wide and feels him rubbing the tip of his manhood erected against her opening without daring to enter yet,and she hates herself for how reflexively she pushes her pelvis against him,for how she widens her legs even more.
«Maybe you're horrible too.»
Y/n head was spinning and it was difficult to remember how that change had happened,how she had started crying at the betrayal of her family when shortly before she had found herself aching for him,for the man above her as the most unfortunate of disasters;nor how she had come to grasp with her lips a pasty and strong flavor, capable of awakening every sense,capable of awakening in her new desires and instilling new life in her.
When Daemon had walked her to a secret area on the beach of Dragonstone and eased her thirst with the most intense,tasteful wine of the known world she had found herself on her knees for him.Till a week before she used to lift her gowns and get down only to pray her gods,now she was doing for the man that her father had raised her to despise and she loved it more than the gods her mother had taught her to worship.
Then she had found herself laying on the cold and wet sand,Daemon on her like a beast on the pray.
Y/n followed with her tongue the route of a thick drop and found a small bump in her mouth.She enclosed it inside and sucked so as not to disperse any of the spicy notes of that purple liquid.The fingers that had played with his long moon hair tightened their grip in a tacit warning and she chased another trail finding herself flattening her tongue on solid muscles,provoking them with the tip to make them contract and relax to their liking.She sucked in other stylls and bit the skin she found underneath to memorize its texture and remember how even the salty of the sweat could turn into sugar.
She knew that the gift,which was dripping from that chest and which had been offered to her so generously, was not to be wasted and she would savor it greedily.
«Good princess.»Daemon had praised her,his eyes,of the same color of the wine,capturing her every movement.
Y/n blinked and the blurred view allowed her to admire the work of a skilled sculptor.The advent of the chest she was worshipping,stained with other droplets waiting for her passage,caused a wave of desire in her belly.Those paths she was entering would soon lead her to the place where she would finally find peace and a new pang of anticipation caught her unprepared.
She strove to bring back to mind how she ended up like this,on her knees for him.A man with the blood of the dragon in his veins,a man who was undoubtedly a deity:he had dazzled her with an estatic vision of immortal creatures singing and dancing,so colorful and lively that he enchanted and chained her to them.And that drink she had tasted first from his cup,then from his hands and, finally,from the rest of his limbs.
Y/n kneeling between the sea and the rocks, looked up at him eyes and,all of a sudden,she didn't care about anything anymore.Her pupils burned,foamed like the liquid she was collecting,and rested her soul.
Then she had found herself underneath him and somehow,she also founded the strength to pray for forgiveness.For the person she was about to become,for the person she was letting him create.
Maybe she was horrible too.
«I want to be.»she whimpered against his mouth«I want to be just like you.»she pleaded,scratching down his back,the rosary long forgotten on the cold sand.
Mother,Maiden,Crone.
Y/n turns to those names but without really praying to them:she thinks of the Mother,the one that she had lost,the one that she had watched her sister turn into and who is the only definition their father had imposed on both of them,of the Maiden who she is no longer,of the Crone who she does not want to be yet.
And never,never,never like right now she was just Y/n,a woman,as she feels the member of Daemon finally slip into her to its entire length.The intrusion snatches a cry of surprise from her,but even though it’s the first time she feels no pain and she is amazed.
Her lips opens immediately when Daemon one’s looks for hers,his tongue caressing hers slowly as his arms brings her impossible closer to him,almost as he wanted to be one with her.
«Tell me that you are mine,Y/n.Not your father,but mine.»Daemon sounded desperate,moving in and out of her at a languid pace to savor more of the gentle creature he was corrupting.
«I’m yours.»she immediately answered him with a little moan«And you are mine?»she still had that white innocence in her that made him fall in love with her.
«Soon we will be one under the blessing of the Seven.You are mine and i’m yours.»he promised her and she believes him,he’s her new god,one that was created only for her to worship just like he worship her.
Daemon enters and leaves her at an increasingly rapid pace,sinking more forcefully at the end of that provocation;it should be a punishment, perhaps,it is instead for Y/n is a relief.It’s not a torture,not when he fills her,but the emptiness he leaves when all of this will end.She hates how her body does not consider that as a shameful act,making love before being married on the beach,a humiliation,as,in spite of everything,even her mind recognizes that disgract on his virtue infinitely more pleasant than the honest marital duty that her sister had told her about.
Stranger.Stranger.Stranger.
There is no other god left,as she opens her eyes and feels lost in her own release that hits her like the waves that crush on the shore.Daemon is not far behind her,his lilac eyes shining in hers as he empties himself in her.
Y/n surrenders to him,to the only true Stranger she knows,and thinks that after all she could also die in that moment,because she is dying less now than she died for all her life.Because being with Daemon couldn’t be worse than being with her father,because the unprecedented heat that explodes inside her suddenly can be nothing more than death itself.
She opens her lips and Daemon is the only name she outrageously prays as she opens her hands to hold him now to herself,to draw him closer instead of pushing him back,while he sinks for one last time.
The rosary breaks and the beads fall to the sand,like the gods it represent.
«I’m sorry.»he says.
«Everything is alright.»she says back.
Daemon lays on her and begins to caress her with an unexpected and inconsistent sweetness,like that remorse to which she gives voice,but which she understands after all.He would not have been able to ask for all this without offering her father to marry his daughter,because,in any case,if he had only asked for a fun night together she would have said no.
But now of her rabid cruelty nothing remains but a painful fragility;he is a god who falls too,a god who bows to her.It's ironic how she almost feels obliged to console him,to thank him for taking her away from her father hands.
«Thank you,my prince.»Y/n whispered.
Deamon closed his eyes,laying on her bare chest and enjoying the warmth of her skin«You're the only beautiful thing I will ever have,Y/n.I will make you a happy wife.»and he sounded sincere,she believed him.
Father,Smith,Warrior,Mother,Maiden,Crone,Stranger.
She no longer worships the gods now,because they are cruel,those who brand such a sweet pleasure as a sin.
She doesn't think about the gods anymore,Y/n, because now she knows what it means to be human.
There is no longer any god,not after the Hour of the owl,when Daemon gives unconditional whispers,love and mercy.Because he no longer needs blackmail as a pretext and Y/n no longer has religious images to hide behind.It was only them now,to believe in and to love.
«I love you.»he says
«I love you too.»she says back.

summary: Aemond meets his aunt for the first time, and there’s more than meets the eye. (there will be three parts).
Tumblr media
There hasn’t been a day that you never left your homeland. All in prosperity. All in solitude, all in mindful thoughts that even the castle walls were unable to perceive. Oldtown is known for the oldest kingdom within Westeros.
We light the way, those are the words from House Hightower, a tall, silver tower with a green light of flames atop. Members of the Hightower court are known to be proud and resilience. Perhaps too greedy to your taste. Less fickle to their needs, their desires, their secrets, their ambition.
All minds think alike, as they said. But your mind is unalike from theirs.
There hasn’t been a single day where your life change—steady as it goes. But when your older sister, Alicent, sent a letter to you from a raven fled from miles, you instantly ripped the seal and unveiled her letters, written in neat cursive. In the days where you can recall that Alicent taught you to read and write, before accompanying your father, Otto Hightower, to aid the ailing king and his throne.
In King’s Landing, where Aegon has set and had trees felled after his conquest in Westeros. The stories of dragonlords and ladies has caught you into a slighted dot of peculiarity. But with your father, you knew that your father wanted more than being as the Hand of the King. Like any folk in Oldtown, he’s all in the same cloak of mind and heart as the rest. The only difference is he has resided in King’s Landing with the Targaryens, warming the throne with Alicent’s political stead.
With you, as Alicent’s half-sister, one thing you adored about her is her resilience, no matter how the power struggle may have been, Alicent held her head high, it inspired you to do the same cause, not for the greater good, but for you to steady your heart. With Alicent’s brown eyes, anyone would be easily swayed at her beauty. With your eyes like glowing water, the subjects were to assume that you’re either a sea creature in the ocean, or have been reincarnated as a woman. Common folks assumed that you’re a goddess sent by Maiden herself. But others theorized you’re born in the sacred pond within the forest.
Despite the nonsensical rumors, you carried out your duties dulled within life, but with your brother, Gwayne Hightower, entered in your chambers without a warning.
“Sister!”
“Good heavens, you gave me a fright,” you screeched, hand clutching over your chest.
“A word from the raven,” he resumed, pulling out the letter. “It’s from our dear sister.”
She hasn’t written you a letter for months. Understanding of her high authoritative position, thankfully enough you aren’t the queen. You couldn’t bear to think about gifting children into the world from your maidenhood.
“Alicent!” Departing from the chair, you snatched the letter from Gwayne’s hand and ripped the letter open, straightening the scrolled paper.
My dearest sister,
I regret to inform you that I cannot visit in the Oldtown due to personal circumstances that our father has been trifled with the matters in King’s Landing. As queen, I must fully prioritize my duties and smite the inconsiderate undutiful thought of others. My dear husband, King Viserys, has been unwell as of late, growing slower day by day, but still the same man who loves his histories and shed upon endless favoritism on his daughter and her plain-featured sons, as well his miniatures he rarely finished. As of this moment, we are preparing the feast for the upcoming celebration. Misery and dread and politics has been my company, and I’d be happy if you come to King’s Landing and stay here for more than a month. I also send Gwayne and his men to escort you back. I hope you still have the new dresses and jewels the seamstress sorted to your taste; I always know that you hated attire that itched your flesh or suffocating. Words cannot expressed about how I miss the sweetness of your smile and laughter. We shall meet soon.
Signed,
Alicent Hightower
Jumping with joy, your body lunged at Gwayne, locking him into a tight hug, slightly hopping in place with a big grin stretched onto your lips.
“Have my things ready, brother,” you said, hasting, forgetting about the silks and fabrics in your hands.
“But you need more time. You’ll stay in King’s Landing as our queenly sister instructed.”
“Send the maids, then. I can’t do this alone.”
“You mustn’t make haste!” Gwayne shouted as you ran off, never minding the silks on the ground only for him to pick up.
“The sooner the better,” you shouted back.
~~~
The trailed ship took no more than three days to reach King’s Landing. Alicent hasn’t mentioned anything particular to the celebration. But you have come to acknowledge that Alicent lessened the details.
By the time the ships rested at the shore, you rushed down to the clear path and greeted your father, who was rather cold and emotionless. Nevertheless, you gave the courtesy of shallow inclination of your neck bent down. Though your heart shattered at the motionless greeting; a chilled wind spiraled on your thickened sleeves.
“Father,” you said, grinning ear to ear.
“Queen Alicent awaits,” is all he said, then left without abiding on you.
“But—”
“Ser Gwayne, escort this lady in the Red Keep,” he wasn’t saying it with care.
This lady.
Months without communication and souvenirs, you’d ought it’ll soften your father’s resolve regarding onto the estrangement.
Another clash of heartbreak has struck again. But it comes as no surprise.
Both of you hadn’t spoke since of his second wife—your mother’s—passing.
As numb as it may be, the small pang in your heart resolved again as Gwayne Hightower escorted you to the high steeps close, reaching the royal grounds of Red Keep.
~~~
Infiltrating from climbing the steps until reaching the indoors, the green queen appeared.
Your sister.
“Alicent,” you rushed and clung her to embrace.
“Sister, how good of you to come,” Alicent replied.
The halls greeted you in cold and dreaded air clinging onto your sleeves, goosebumps flooded over your skin, the thick air of candles and torches has impaled your stomach. You didn’t like this feeling. These halls, darkened in heralds of statues and stars that your pupils recognizant.
Faith of the Seven.
Hightowers held their religion in the highest regard, while you, don’t cherish the ideologies of the religion, filled with fanaticism and hypocrisy. Even Targaryens have the queerest customs, of marrying brother to sister, relative to relative since Aegon I. It dire consequences of genetics and birth, and the fruition of a child birth into an unshakable world of politics and desires. According to the Citadel, in secret debate, those who are born of incest are nothing but sort of monsters lurking, a defect to a bloodline.
The Targaryens disagree—couldn’t care less, of course. As you often heard of keeping the bloodline pure.
Bloodline pure. People speculated that the Targaryens are closer to gods than men. Thus their words ‘Fire and Blood’ is in order. In Valyria, their source is magic and dragons, long before volcanic eruptions swept the lands and dragons into ashes. The last Targaryens resided in Westeros, and thus, their last kind is dwindling, hence creating pure bloodline. As theatrically hysterical as it is, you trudged along the halls.
“It has been so long since I saw you last,” Alicent began.
“It has, but we rarely sent letters as of late.”
“Being a queen is no simple task. Our father’s ambition has gotten stronger.”
“Your father,” you said bitterly.
“My dear sister,” Alicent resumed, her voice soothed. “Father is doing his best to stabilize the realm.”
“Cold, cruel and calculated,” you answered. “Your strength and dutiful as queen is one of the things I admire about you. But, sister, it feels as if my existence is no longer needed. I feel as if I’m useless. My mother received no love from your father.”
The doe-eyed look in Alicent’s eyes protruding. “Sister, I—“”
“Half-sisters,” you reminded. “Everyone thought I was some sort of creature that shouldn’t belong in the realm. I’m no fool; I could hear everyone whisper, even closed doors.”
“Creature or not, you’re still a Hightower. We share the same blood. Nothing will ever change between you and I.”
“But your father will never accept me,” you replied.
Alicent clasped her hands onto yours. “The next time we see each other, I’ll be visiting the Oldtown.”
“You said that the last time on our previous letters,” you chimed. “Let him stabilize the realm alone.”
“That is why you’re here. I needed time apart from the council and subjects,” Alicent reasoned. “Men are often ambitious with their politics and trifling over gold than their wives.”
“It appears so,” you agreed, huffing.
Ironically, Alicent served men, and still is. First Jahaerys, then Otto, then Viserys. Though you wouldn’t so recklessly give your personal opinion away to Alicent.
“We have yet to explore the grounds. We must rest at the gardens. I know how much you love staying in the gardens.”
Your cheeky smile was showing. “I do.”
Alicent squeezed your hand. “Let us be off. It’s considered bad luck if we let our food grow cold.”
“Never knew that it involves bad luck.”
“I’ve been told.”
“By who?”
Not once, Alicent answered.
~~~
“Make yourself comfortable,” Alicent said, indicating the spare chair, and watched you sat with ease, eyeing the lavish outdoors where the Weirwood stood as main view.
“Quite nice out,” you complimented.
This was Alicent meant when she said gardens.
“I chose this spot for a reason,” Alicent said as the servants settled the meal over the table—bowed and left. And the last servant entered, placing a stacked candied almonds and candied plums on a gold platter, alongside of Dornish wine.
Alicent watched your eyes lit up.
“I took the liberty of having the kitchen staff ready for your sweet-tooth,” she clarified.
“You know me well, sister.” You grinned.
“My lady,” a soothing masculine voice said behind you.
“Ser Criston,” Alicent addressed, glancing. “I’m occupied as of this moment.”
“There has been urgent matters regarding to your son.”
Puzzled, Alicent spoke with, “Which son?”
Appalled, your eyes darted at her. On the other hand, you never retain information from Alicent.
“Aegon,” Criston answered, eyes turning away. “I’m afraid his excursions have rather been…” Then his dark brown eyes flicked to yours, his mouth opened, choosing his words carefully.
“We’ll speak no more of it,” Alicent pleaded. “I’m under the liberty of entertaining my sister at the moment. Do ignore Aegon’s excursions for now.”
Somewhere in between the lines, you knew Alicent’s calm demeanor struck hard when the excursions take place, wrath kept within, as you read between Alicent’s lines furrowed on her forehead. Ser Criston glimpsed at you and bowed before withdrawing from the outdoors.
“My apologies,” Alicent said to you in a dreaded voice. “The excursions in the daylight hour upon King’s Landing hasn’t ended.”
“I never knew you had a son,” you said, munching on the candied almonds.
Alicent swallowed the contents of the food. “I mentioned it once before in the letter. That I was having a babe in my belly.”
You pondered for a moment. It was back when Alicent married Viserys and carried a child in her.
“But you never mentioned that it’s a son,” you commented.
“But I’m sure you heard Aegon’s name the moment he arrived into the world.”
Your teeth clenched. “I can assure you I did.” The Oldtown spoke of Aegon in high regards, but as you grew older, you never hear much of Aegon’s doings, hoping to meet your nephew, you waited, but as usual, you sister never once sent letters to offer you an invite.
“Things have been hectic for the past years, and I doubt that’ll cease. With the Iron Throne empty and with all that it stands, we’re keeping the place intact with politics and debate,” Alicent reasoned.
You stayed in silence.
“If you would like,” Alicent continued, “I would be happy to take you to the gallery. The Red Keep has been nothing but a dread. I shall escort you and give you a tour to the Red Keep unless you want someone else to—”
“No, I’d be thrilled if you were to accompany me,” you paused, then said, “sister.”
Alicent gently beamed at that.
~~~
When you and Alicent both went inside the Red Keep, the royal subjects and guards bowed before the green queen as their eyes lingered onto yours, and an incoherent of whispers were passed to your ears.
The sister of the green queen.
And as you ascended the staircases, from there, you saw the shaded eyes of violet and curled hair—a young girl, a few years younger than you.
“Mother, have you seen my—” The girl’s youthful stare darted to yours, backing away gradually.
“This is my sister, (y/n), your aunt,” Alicent introduced. “This is Princess Helaena, my daughter,” Alicent said to you.
“A pleasure.” As you made an inclination to your neck, smiling to the princess as you hadn’t realized that the others accompanied none other by two young men behind Helaena, both with Targaryen features.
Your heart stopped—leapt with warmth—when you first glanced at the tall prince with gold, lithe hair as his other eye covered with eyepatch.
“These are my other sons…” Alicent said, searching for the third son with a slight frown on her features. “Where is Aegon?”
“Drunk as usual,” Daeron rolled his eyes, crossing his arms.
“That blasted fool…” Alicent hissed, then smiled merrily in a way to appease herself. “I hope you and Lady (y/n) would get along.”
“Yes, I remember now! You’re that boy—that cupbearer in the council!” you said to Daeron.
Daeron beamed. “I am proud to serve my mother’s family in Oldtown. Ashamed we never met circumstances in the Reach, yet here we are!” he chuckled. “For my dear father’s name day contained in private ceremony, I’m glad you came.”
You sensed the sarcasm in the word “father”, but shrugged it off.
The dread of unwanted unwelcome washed away with glee. “Indeed. I shall look forward to the festivities.”
Aemond lifted and placed his kiss upon the back of your hand. A kiss placed with gentle fire ignited your dulled soul, envision with flames of blush blaring your dewy cheeks. “A pleasure to meet you, my lady.”
Breath caught in your throat, eyeing on his hand still lingering his intertwine fingers to your skin. “Likewise, my prince…”
For the first time in your life, the gentleness of a dragon has captured your heart and soul.
As for Aemond, with the slighted news of your presence, there’s nothing more than mere maiden who needs to be soiled with his perversions trapped and coiled and enflamed in between his legs. When he first laid his gaze on you, he pictured your flushed skin wrapped with his own, his lips captured yours as his presence trapped into your mind for eternity. But alas, with a wandering thought just now, it wasn’t like him. He mustn’t be capricious and avarice on the spot.
With your grand arrival, Aemond had already decided you’ll become his.
One day at the time, he reminded himself.
“It’s unusual for you to be courteous to someone,” Alicent commented.
“I never wish to scare anyone with my presence, mother,” Aemond said. “It is my duty as a prince to make our special guest comfortable.”
A hot tingle between your legs stirred as you eyed on him—on his lips—how rolled off words with his tongue, finding yourself imagining at the thought of your nephew tasting your folds as you ride him, warming the bed—riding him whilst lace and corset of your precious dress torn apart by his own rugged and young hands.
“He’s only being courteous like Prince Daeron,” you noted, clearing your throat. “Everyone must fulfill their role to the realm. We mustn’t decay our customs to rudeness.”
Aemond’s eye gleamed at your flushing features whilst you looked at Alicent in the eye, you speak with assurance yet your body wavered, dying for your hungered coil in you—the scorch caged within your dress to be set free.
You cannot fool me, my princess, he thought.
In the end, nobody can fool a dragon like him.

₊˚.༄ Crown Prince!Gojo who is the only son of the emperor and empress of Japan, the beloved and long-awaited child of his parents. As a child, he had been showered with endless praise and veneration as the one, true, legitimate heir to the chrysanthemum throne. The entire imperial household had expected the prince to inherit an unwavering sense of duty to the crown and to his people much like his fore-bearers, only to be severely disappointed when the prince turns out to be a pathological card shark with ambiguous morals, and a serial womanizer who has slept with countless women from aristocratic backgrounds during the height of his bachelor years.
₊˚.༄ Crown Prince!Gojo who finally incurs his father’s wrath after a nasty bar brawl that leads to him getting unceremoniously arrested and is stripped of his title and properties as crown prince, favoring his half-brother, Prince Suguru Geto, who had been born of the emperor’s affair with one of the empress’s ladies-in-waiting. This incident has prompted his mother, the empress, to help in ratifying his public image by arranging Satoru to marry a commoner with an impeccable standing in Japanese society in a bid to re-portray Satoru as a responsible, married man. The empress, in turn, offers to grant you, Satoru’s future wife-to-be, anything your heart could ever desire.
₊˚.༄ Crown Prince!Gojo who engages in a pantomime act of being a loving husband to you during a state banquet by showering you with endless praise in his speech addressed to all the world leaders in the Akasaka Palace’s reception hall. When he was asked to introduce you, his new wife, the honeyed words came so easily to him. “You see, the princess (Y/N) is no ordinary woman,” he chuckles into the microphone causing the guests to giggle at the sight of what looks to be a bashful newlywed.
“Other than being the first breath of fresh air our family has ever had the pleasure of knowing in so long, and the most active member in our family when it comes to supporting the many royal charities and foundations, she is…” he trails off. You dared to follow the wandering gaze of your husband, who seems to be searching for another pair of eyes in the room. His eyes eventually stop their search, softening at the sight of the one he loved. For a second, you think he is looking at you, and your heart naively skips a beat in your chest as if all these months of inattention and animosity were finally coming to an end.
“…My better half, the keeper of my own heart.”
Many of the ambassador’s wives who sat beside you nudged you in congratulations for being so blessed with such a devoted husband. You crane your head back to smile warmly at them for the kind words only to have ice coat your veins instantly when you see his Chief-of-Staff, Himiko Zenin, sitting about two seats behind you, staring directly at your husband with a wistful look in her eyes, exchanging words of love in a silent oath — one that is far more certain than the rising and the setting of the sun as each day passes with your husband hating you a tad bit more than yesterday, and one that is far more truthful than the wedding vows you shared.
Of course, writing this godforsaken death march-like speech was easy for Satoru, simply because these words of devotion and love were never intended for you anyway; this poetic spiel was written with another woman ensnaring his mind.
₊˚.༄ Crown Prince!Gojo who sneaks out of bed during your wedding night, sparing one last cold glance at your sleeping form before he saunters out the imperial villa to meet his girlfriend in a nearby mountain resort, about half a mile away from the villa. His personal chauffeur had been sworn to secrecy, else, he would incur the wrath of the crown prince.
“I thought you couldn’t get away,” Himiko moans wantonly into his mouth as he roughly takes her from behind, the lewd wet sounds of their lovemaking echoing through the room. He had taken the liberty of secretly bringing Himiko along to your honeymoon, by booking the most expensive suite in the resort for her under another name.
“The bitch is too fucked out to even notice I’m gone— mmph—“ he throws his head back, releasing a pleasured groan when Himiko meets his sharp thrusts, grinding teasingly on his cock as she does so. He grips her hips tightly, readjusting his hips to pound into her from another angle, the muscles on his abs tightening as he gets lost in the feeling of her tight, luscious walls. “Sh-shit, ‘m-m gonna cum—“
“—Ah! S-Satoru,” she was close too, her eyes rolling to the back of her head as the fat tip of his member roughly prods at her cervix.
He half-expected Himiko to be angry with him for engaging in intimate acts with you, but she simply acts like she didn’t hear him. And even if she was upset, why should he, of all people, apologize? She should have known that becoming his mistress entailed having to endure these kinds of things as these were simply Satoru’s marital duties, and by extension, his duty to the crown.
His high washes over him like a tidal wave crashing into the rock shore, grunting as he involuntarily thrusts as he releases inside her, Himiko collapsing onto the pillows as he does. “O-oh, haaa- agh,” his deep tenor moans into her long black hair as his seed paints her walls, holding her close to his form, their heartbeats racing a million miles an hour.
He pulls out his flaccid cock, plopping down next to her, pulling her small frame for her head to rest on his chest. “I just need to have father reinstate me as heir apparent and return all my estates, then,” he kisses her once, his lips moving in sync with her soft ones.
“…We’ll get rid of her.”
₊˚.༄ Crown Prince!Gojo who blatantly and publicly humiliates you by bringing along Himiko Zenin to a state visit to the imperial family’s counterpart in Monaco rather than you, his rightful wife. And when asked of your whereabouts, Satoru simply replies with a casual shrug, his hand squeezing Himiko’s smaller ones as she usurps the banquet thrown in your honor by the Monacan royal family while you watch the horrific scene unfold on your television screen, your heart shattering into a million pieces as Himiko and Satoru uncaringly waltz with one another in front of the watchful eyes of the entire world throughout the evening.
₊˚.༄ Crown Prince!Gojo who crucifies you for your acts of sincere charity, believing you to be actively humiliating Himiko despite having no intentions whatsoever resembling his baseless accusation. “Did you honestly think your little publicity antics would go unpunished? I bet you were just itching for the attention, weren’t you?” he snarls at you the second you come back from a visit to one of the hospitals you had commissioned for the treatment of children with rare diseases, a compassionate act which had been heavily televised by national broadcasting stations and even international news agencies. “If you wish to compete with Himiko, wife, then, by all means. But I swear to you, I will do everything — everything I can — to make the entire world know just how much of an opportunistic whore you are—”
You gaze up at your husband with fear in your eyes. “…I was not competing with Himiko, can I not care for our people — your people? I’m sure they need someone to promote their interests when their own prince couldn’t be bothered to do so!” you retaliate but are quickly shot down when he throws his scotch glass at the wall, causing you to flinch when it shatters on impact.
“I will make sure this humiliation you dealt to Himiko will return to you tenfold, (Y/N),” he dangerously seethes, coming to the aid of his mistress. “Celebrate your victory all you want, wife, but make no mistake, this is far from over.”
₊˚.༄ Crown Prince!Gojo who indifferently scoffs when you crumble into a sobbing mess after yet another argument with him. “W-what can I do to make you not hate me so much? P-please tell me, Satoru.” The only response you receive is your husband dangerously moving closer to you, his eyes, dark with pure loathing. Instinctively, you step backward, only to be met by the cold wall of your shared bedroom. “S-Satoru—“
“—Here’s what you can do: do exactly as I say, without question,” he traps you between his arms, his breath hot on your skin, his lips dangerously close to yours, his voice dripping with the venom that could turn every silver thread in your heart into a hue that resembled charcoal black. “If I tell you to kiss me, you kiss me. If I tell you to get out, you get out. If I tell you to shut up, you sew your mouth shut or rip your tongue out, I really don’t give a damn. If I tell you to die…”
“…You drop dead.”

face masks and horror films II l.williamson x reader
Tumblr media
can’t decide if I love this or I hate this but we do love hopelessly soft girlfriend banter 🫶🏻
face masks and horror films II l.williamson x reader
"jesus babe what the hell is in this? it smells like literal petrol." leahs face twisted into a disgusted grimace as she sniffed the top of the bottle, yanking her head away immediately as you moved the flyaways off of her forehead, tucking them behind her ears and tying her hair back into a loose bun.
today was a day you knew would be nothing short of gut wrenching for your girlfriend, the lionesses world cup squad was to be announced, and leahs name wouldn't be on there.
though she was doing well at hiding how much it obviously hurt, unlike others you were not as easily fooled and knowing the older girl like the back of your hand you saw right through her act.
none the less you were still wanting to respect that the defender clearly didn't want to make much of a fuss over it or even talk about it.
though knowing how much it was actually affecting her you'd used the excuse of being stressed out from your own work load to talk her into an at home pamper day of sorts, with the real intent being to try and take her mind off the squad roster.
you'd been by her side and in her corner every single day since she'd gone down and done her acl, and it had hardly been easy given the your girlfriend was quite honestly one of the most stubborn, independent, strong willed, and sometimes pig headed women you'd ever met, but you loved her dearly for it.
her burning passion and fierce loyalty made her the perfect leader and the most protective and loving of partners, but it was the moments where her walls were down and she was vulnerable and honest and open with you that really made you fall so deeply for the older girl.
your paths had first crossed at a local park, leah our for a walk with her mum enjoying the rare appearance of sunshine on her day off.
you babysitting your troublesome nephew had hoped some fresh air and a kick around of a ball would help to tire him out, and had promptly whisked him off to the park with you.
you were hopelessly naive though and instead had spent the afternoon tiring yourself out as he ran rings around you, energy supply seemingly endless as he zoomed around the park.
only six years old, tall for his age and far from the most self aware of children with his head in the clouds more often than not. it wasn’t long before he’d quite literally slammed into the back of an unsuspecting leahs legs, taking her down to the ground as he chased after the football you’d toe punted in the wrong direction.
“i’m so incredibly sorry oh my god are you alright??” you’d sprinted over as the girl got to her feet, tailbone throbbing and ready to give a very unimpressed mouthful to the parent of the pocket rocket which had taken her off her feet without so much as a hello.
only the moment her eyes fell to you her mouth dried up, words dying on her lips as any ounce of ill will or anger dissipated. “yeah I’m okay.” leah had managed to stutter out, her mum seeing the slight blush grow on her daughters cheeks and excusing herself with the lie she needed to make a phone call.
“archie oliver green you come here right now and apologise to this poor lady!” you shouted at your nephew as he collected the ball he was chasing in the first place. face paling he scurried over and rambled out an apology toward leah, looking up at you for approval as you nodded, running a hand fondly through his hair before excusing him to continue playing.
you continued to apologise yourself over and over to the unfamiliar blonde who waved you off each time, though after much pestering accepted your offer of buying her a coffee in return for the trouble.
and from the moment you’d teased her for ordering a hot chocolate instead, the rest was history.
"leah you're being ridiculous it literally has no smell." you rolled your eyes, snatching the bottle of face mask mixture back off of your girlfriend and squeezing a small amount of its contents onto your palm.
"nope, there is no way that's going on my face." leahs hands grabbed at your wrists holding them firmly away from her. the blonde leant back with a determined shake of her head as you again tried to move forward to start applying the charcoal mask to her cheeks, your own already beginning to dry.
"you already agreed!" you protested with a huff trying to pull your hands from her iron clad grip. the two of you stood in the bathroom of your shared north london flat, you had already made quick work of hinting to your girlfriend that a day of self care would really help you get over the stress you were under at work which was a lie.
and though the idea of caring for you was always a priority in the forefront of leahs mind, a day of skin care and pampering was more to the blondes displeasure.
"well that was before i realised you'd just be slapping mud on my face!" leah argued as you puffed air out of you nose in annoyance, firmly staring the older girl down. "for god sakes leah we just had this discussion, it's not mud!" you groaned loudly as she finally let you go, allowing you to move to wash your hands where the charcoal mixture had already dried on your palm.
"it's good for your skin and you'll feel good once it's done le, i promise." you tried again adding in a charming smile and a tilt of your head as leah simply narrowed her eyes, cute as she found you she wasn't giving in that easily to your demands.
admittedly it normally didn't take much for leah to give in and give you whatever you wanted, hell the blonde defender would spoil you rotten every day if she had the chance. she was always sneaking off to get the dinner bill or paying for activities ahead of time on date nights to stay one step ahead of you, shutting up your whinging about it with a kiss and a mumble of how you deserved it against your lips.
"alright i'll make you a deal." leah started with a deep sigh as you crossed your arms over your chest, begrudgingly nodding for her to continue.
“if I let you put this shit on my face, we're watching a movie of my choice later, no arguments from you at all about what i pick." leah negotiated as your eyes locked, neither of you backing down.
"leah if this is just an excuse for you to make me watch porn with you-" you began as leahs eyes widened at the accusation. "scuse you i'm a good girl i would never do that." the blonde grinned as her hands reached out to ball your top in her fists, tugging you to stand inbetween her legs where she was sat down on the edge of the bath tub.
"thought you wanted to watch game of thrones?" you challenged, your girlfriend having been sure she made it crystal clear that even with your often conflicting schedules neither of you were to watch a single minute of your current shared fixation without the other.
"changed my mind. we have a deal?" leah raised an eyebrow as her hands wrapped around the back of your legs. her chin came to rest on your stomach, piercing blue eyes staring up toward you as she patiently awaited an answer.
you sighed deeply before nodding, knowing that with all she had going on it really wouldn't be fair of you to deny her just watching a movie of her choosing.
the main turn offs for you only being you knew she would either put on a documentary which was incredibly boring or a horror film, neither of which would be your go to choices.
"look who finally learned what a compromise is." you mumbled under your breath, nudging leah's knees further apart you moved in closer as the english captain pulled her head off your stomach and closed her eyes, hands running absentmindedly up and down your bare sides, you once again squeezing a small amount of the mask mixture onto your hands.
"i would personally say allowing you to hide your face in my chest when we watch a horror film is a very fair compromise my girl." leah stated calmly, a smirk tugging at the corners of her mouth.
you rolled your eyes in response her words all but confirming you would both be watching something scary later, starting to gently cover her face with the mask mixture, leah tensing a little and gripping to you tighter as the cold cream touched her skin.
"leah williamson, englands new face of chivalry." you sighed sarcastically, squirming as the blonde pinched at her your side for the comment, rather enjoying her easy access to your skin as you were only wearing a pair of her england joggers and a cropped black tank top.
"how long does this have to stay on for?" leah complained almost immediately as you finished, stepping away to wash your hands before stashing the bottle back on the top drawer of your mirrored cabinet.
drying your hands you slipped your phone out of your pocket, snapping a quick picture of leah when the girl wasn't looking and sending it to alex who'd gifted you the bottle of expense face mask cream she'd gotten in one of her many pr packages.
"twenty-ish minutes, come on i'll paint your nails next." you offered, holding your hand out towards the older girl and wiggling your fingers impatiently. "wasn't this pamper day for your benefit baby?" leah chuckled as she grabbed at your hand anyway. "it's for both of us, and looking after you makes me just as happy if not more." you answered sincerely, dipping down to steal a kiss from the blonde whose heart melted at your words.
leah stood from the baths edge and gratefully squeezed your hand, hating how much she truly was whipped over you, forever teased by her friends and team mates about it this was just further proof in the pudding.
"i'd say pick a colour, but..." you grabbed the small bottle of white nail polish knowing better than to offer something more bold, leahs lips curling into a smile as she sat down on your shared bed, tucking one leg underneath her and carefully moving her bandaged leg to lay down flat, still not having the largest range of movement in the new knee.
"oi i've been meaning to ask you, why the hell do we have so many cushions?" leah questioned abruptly with a frown as she moved several off the bed and wiggled herself into a comfortable position as you sat down beside her, urging her to stay still as you began painting the nails on her left hand.
"decoration? comfort? cause i like them?" you shrugged without looking up, eyes focused sharply on your girlfriends hand determined not to mess anything up.
"you throw them all off when we sleep anyway, I just don't understand it." leah shook her head making you smile though your eyes stayed trained on the task at hand as you bent her head, gently blowing on the wet varnish and warning her not to move her hand until it dried.
"i don't always throw them off." you defended quietly, moving carefully onto leah's other hand and frowning a little when you noticed your girlfriend had once again been chewing on her nails, an anxious habit you thought she'd stopped, but you decided against mentioning it right now.
"we have never slept with them on the bed." leah quickly disagreed, bringing her left hand to her mouth and also gently blowing on the wet nails to help them dry faster
"well you're not always here are you." you mumbled, leah hiding a smile at the thought of her girlfriend using cushions as a replacement for her when away for the night, which though rare did still happen, especially during the WSL season.
"if I could move my face I'd kiss you." leah commented dryly making you laugh, the older girl trying to move her face which had hardened quite significantly from the mask. "that means it's working." you grinned happily, leah now blowing on the nails of her right hand.
"can i do yours now please?" leah asked softly not having much faith she would do a good job but always wanting to give back to you the love you poured endlessly into her.
with a happy nod you stood and picked out a pale purple for your own nails, sitting down cross legged and speaking the blonde through the task, rewarding her with a soft kiss as she finished each nail, the sweet action only spurring her on further.
as leah finished your first hand her phone began to ring, her best friends name flashing on the screen as leah clicked accept and put it on speaker so she could continue. "hi scotty." leah called out, eyes trained down to your hand as you smiled proudly at her obvious efforts.
"how's the face mask going then spock?" alex teased as leahs eyes flickered up to you with an unimpressed glare. "you sent a picture to her? babe!" the blonde groaned as alex laughed, the three of you falling into comfortable conversation.
"what are you both up to tonight then?" alex asked after she'd finished recounting her morning spent rubbing elbows with celebrities at a charity brunch. "self care and pamper night!" leah answered perkily, voice dripping with sarcasm as you shook her head and playfully kicked at her, careful not to touch her bandaged leg.
"we're gonna watch a movie later if you care to come join?" leah offered, finishing up your nails as you beamed proudly and gave her a proper kiss, alex making gagging noises over the call and complaining she didn't call just to hear the two of you make out.
"which movie then?" alex asked once the teasing had died down. "poltergeist." leah announced happily and your eyes almost bugged out of your head at his words, the older blonde looking to you as if challenging you to argue with her choice. "oh pass thanks, joey had nightmares for months when we watched that for the first time as a family."
"months leah!" you turned to your girlfriend with fear stricken eyes who simply shrugged, unbothered. "deals a deal." the blonde smiled smugly, shutting up your further protests with another kiss as alex gagged again and bid you both goodbye, needing to get back to her event.
"right that's twenty minutes, get this crap off my face now please." leahs phone chimed with an alarms, the blonde swinging herself carefully off the bed with a small squeak.
"You set a timer?" you asked in disbelief, following her back to the bathroom. "my face feels like a rock is this going to take my skin off?" leah asked worriedly, looking at herself in the mirror as you rolled your eyes and pushed her to sit back down on the edge of the bath.
"honestly leah and you tell everyone I'm the dramatic one in this relationship."
***
"feels nice doesn't it? told you the mask works." you smiled noticing leah constantly touch at her face fondly, the defender hastily pulling her hands away and flipping her girlfriend off as she clicked on the tv, scrolling through netflix to find what she wanted.
the two of you had ordered a chinese for dinner and with much begging leah had agreed the two of you could watch an episode of game of thrones as you ate, your plan that she would be too invested to want to watch a film after failing miserably as she turned the show off after two episodes and ordered you up to the bedroom.
"come." leah ordered, making grabby hands at you where she lay down already in bed, patting the empty space between her outstretched legs expectantly. "needy." you teased with a cheeky smile as leah pouted, whining that you were taking too long.
despite her sometimes tough exterior the older girl could be incredibly clingy when she was in the right mood, often tiredly demanding you run your hands through her hair and scratch at her back as she laid down on top of you after a hard training, falling asleep with her head tucked into your neck as you mumbled in her ear sweet affirmations of just how much you loved and adored her, and how proud you were of all her achievements.
since her surgery the two of you had been up and down to say the least. some days leah not wanting any sort of coddling or to hear your insistent positive comments that she was doing well, too engrossed in the reality of what her injury was holding her back from to focus on what she was working towards.
but a few hours of stony silence would pass as you gave her the desired space she needed and afterward the blonde would always come crawling into bed with you, murmuring a sincere apology as she pressed her face into your neck, slowly trailing gentle kisses down the column of your throat, teeth tugging teasingly at your ear lobe before she'd go in for a proper kiss to show how sorry she really was.
"oh wait, lights." leah nodded to the switch near your head as you gave her a look. "you turn it off or I turn it off, it's not staying on. baby girl we never have lights on when we watch a movie, it ruins the atmosphere." leah teased with a grin and you flipped her off without looking and engulfed the room into a soft darkness, padding your way back to the bed purposefully dragging your feet as leah impatiently tutted, huffing dramatically at your antics.
"oh i'll protect you gorgeous." leah mocked as you carefully sat down on the bed and slid your back into her front, mindful of her knee, the defender squeezing your cheeks between her fingers with a coo.
"don't patronise me williamson." you warned seriously, wrenching her hands off and crossing your own over your chest as leah simply chuckled and grabbed the bowl of popcorn, resting it on one of the many cushions scattered around the bed, both of you laying together on top of the covers as it wasn't all that cold. "sorry, y/l/n." leah apologized with an amused smile.
you sighed deeply as the movie began to play and your girlfriends arms snaked around your waist, hands resting on the warm exposed skin of your stomach and rubbing comforting circles into your hips with her slender fingers.
***
normally when the two of you watch a film together one of you would wind up asleep before the end, and it was usually you.
however tonight was far from that.
the movie had about half an hour left and you were rigidly awake, to the point where leah could feel the muscles in your abs tense every time you would squeeze your eyes closed at something you deemed scary.
much like right now, leah knew there was a jump scare coming and could feel your stomach tense under her fingers as you braced yourself for what was to come. the music shrill and daunting on the screen infront of you, hinting that there was something sinister to follow.
"ah!" leah suddenly yelled, digging her fingers into your sides right before the jump scare when the movie had fallen dead silent. "fucking hell!" you swore, tipping the near empty bowl of popcorn in your lap all over the bed from shock as you jumped half a foot from the false scare, leah's body vibrating behind you as the blonde threw her head back pissing herself at your expense.
"fuck you leah!" you swore again bringing her clenched fist down hard on the blondes bare thigh of her good leg, numbing it with the force of the hit as you yanked your girlfriends arms off of you, moving the now empty bowl out of your way and getting to your feet.
"i'm sorry!" leah managed to choke out between her laughter, now laying down in bed as she held her stomach trying to catch her breath among her howls. "no baby come back please!" leah called out with another laugh as you stepped into the bathroom, making a point to slam the door closed after you to show your displeasure with the blonde.
"no, get away from me." you ordered moodily, sticking your leg out as a barrier as leah joined you and attempted to give you a hug, the older girl smirking at you as she grabbed her own toothbrush, the two of you wordlessly completing your night time routines
"you know you can't stay mad my pretty girl you're far too in love with me." leahs breath was warm on your skin as she wrapped her arms around you from behind once you'd returned to your bedroom, pressing a few apologetic kisses to your neck as always.
"your ego fueled confidence is nauseating." you mumbled with a roll of your eyes but didn't make any move to pull away only making leah smile against your tanned skin. "don't be so stroppy." leah teased quietly, now perfectly painted fingernails tracing patterns on your stomach.
"don't you want to finish your stupid movie?" you huffed, unwrapping the girls arms from you and moving toward the bed to pick up the few popcorn kernels which had spilled in the bed after your fright, placing the bowl on your dresser to take downstairs tomorrow, not bothered to take the stairs this time of night.
"no I think there's other things I'd much rather do." leah hummed with a suggestive smile. "oh you wish!" you let out a bark of laughter catching on with a shake of your head, getting into bed and indeed throwing the cushions onto the floor.
"not happening leah, go to sleep." you shot your leg up again, foot pressed against the defenders chest as the girl slipped under the covers with you, moving to kneel between your legs and staring down at you with a charmingly cheeky smile.
grabbing her girlfriends leg leah easily pushed it aside, cold hands resting on the younger girls hips as she laid down half on top of you, body slotted between your bare legs, you having changed out of her joggers into a pair of silk pyjama shorts.
"i'm sorry-" leah began to apologise, hands moving to rest either side of her girlfriends face as she laid down more, body pressing against yours beneath her. "-sorry that you are so easy to scare." leah finished after planting a sweet kiss on your lips, you now shoving her off of you with an unimpressed grunt.
"the offer of hiding your face in my chest is still on the table, even without the movie." leah grinned burying her face in your neck, teeth nipping suddenly at the skin as you squirmed. "oh really?" leah smiled in surprise as you quickly moved to sit on top of her, legs resting either side of the blondes hips, once again mindful of her knee.
humming without another word you dipped her head, trailing kisses from the older girls jaw down her neck before bringing your lips together in a proper kiss. and for once you weren't so quick to give over control to the captain laid down under you, your own tongue sliding into her mouth as cold hands trailed up the inside of the light t-shirt that covered her body, pushing it up slightly as her breath hitched.
leah moaned slightly as your knee made its way between her legs, pressing down gently making you smirk against her lips as her hips bucked, the blonde clearly riled up as you'd wanted. "i'm sorry-" you started, whispering in leahs ear softly as her eyes fluttered closed.
"-sorry that this is all you're getting." you finished with a grin, all traces of your touch disappearing from leahs body as you rolled off of her, laying back down in bed facing away from her as the older girl immediately begin to loudly announce her protests, sitting up in bed and glaring down at you as the sound of your laughter now echoed off your bedroom walls.
"you're lucky you're cute." leah grumbled as you smirked up at her, grabbing at the collar of her top and tugging the taller girl back down into your awaiting arms. adjusting her position leah shuffled down the bed slightly, head coming to settle on your chest, her eyes feeling heavy as your fingers weaved their way through her hair, nails scratching at her scalp as you melted into one another's tender touch.
unbeknownst to you leah had known from the moment you suggested the pamper day today what your true motives were, and even more to her surprise it had actually worked and she'd found her mind hadn't even drifted to thoughts of the world cup, spending the majority of her time focused on you and away from her phone.
and the sincerity of your attempted rouse only made the blonde fall even more head over heels in love with you.

THE KNIFE OF MUAD'DIB (Paul x OC!Reader x Chani)
Tumblr media
Wherein na-Duke Paul Atreides is not the Bene Gesserit's only prospect for the Kwisatz Haderach. Raised by Paul's side as his playmate and servant, Chryse, the Bene Gesserit's cuckoo child, will forge a new future for her master.
(previously posted on AO3 as Themis)
PART I: JESSICA
Lady Jessica focused her intent gaze on the Reverend-Mother’s... gift. This gaze, to which the minutiae of observation was second nature rather than practiced pretense, followed the lines of the girl-child’s high cheekbones up towards large eyes that appeared to overwhelm the face they were set in.
She’d seen that look in those eyes before. Perhaps a thousand times over, a million times over. Reflected in the mirror back at her on Wallach IX, reflected in the shadowed eyes of the girls she barely remembered. The girls that one by one fell, until amongst a hundred girls there stood five Bene Gesserit.
Jessica’s skirt rustled against the floor as she stalked closer, circling the child, examining every angle.
How interesting.
Such control in the child’s bearing, belied by such fear.
Paul had always been fascinated with off-world animals in the filmbooks; the agrarian creatures that inhabited Caladan for over twenty generations bore no thrill to her clever son. Jessica had never understood his fascination as the filmbooks rendered such organisms dead to her. Mere simulacrums of life with soulless eyes.
Perhaps one such simulacrum stood before her now in the form of a human girl. “Reverend-Mother, does she have a name?”
“We call her Chryse. However, if that name does not suit you, Jessica, you may name her as you wish. It is of no consequence to us.” Reverend-Mother Mohiam’s demeanor certainly hadn’t changed in the slightest from the days when she served her overtly. When Gaius Helen Mohiam spoke, everything from her inscrutable countenance to the even tones of her voice commanded subservience. “You will not harm nor bring harm to the girl-child. It is our one order.”
Jessica watched as Mohiam brushed her fingers against Chryse’s jaw to tilt her still face up towards the sallow light of the glow-globe. Not even a muscle twitched in her smooth facade. Jessica wondered what sort of chaos lay beneath, whether the girl would be like the jagged rocks under the beckoning surface of Caladan’s oceans. Only a fool would dive into the dark water blindly.
There was no other option but to acquiesce. “You have my word. She shall not come to harm under my care or the care of House Atreides.”
“Good.” A look passed between them, lasting only a second. Within that second lay an eternity.
The Reverend-Mother strode from the room with an economical gait, not sparing another iota of energy to look back.
Jessica knew then the precise nature of this “present”.
How many men had failed in the making of the Kwisatz Haderach? How many years, decades, centuries had her sisters carefully tended the most sacred plant, a mind that could bridge space and time. If Paul failed -
She stopped that fearful thought in its tracks, held it in the cradle of her mind’s eye, then let it pass through.
The Bene Gesserit were patient like mountains were patient. Time was an endless resource. It was better to cultivate many plants of good stock than to nurture a small garden and watch as its leaves shrivel and diel. Chryse was not and could never be the Kwisatz Haderach. Perhaps that fact ought to have assuaged Jessica’s fear. Yet - if Paul should die while he was only eleven, the House of Atreides forever extinguished, the child seemed poised to become the next vessel to carry the bloodline of the Kwisatz Haderach. Only ten years old, and she had mastered the prana-bindu like an adept three times her age. Who knew what sort of terror she had been bred to create?
Her son had already shown promise even without her training. Paul might flourish, grow into a man, grow into the mind that the universe needed. That would never come to pass if Chryse supplanted him.
Mohiam must have felt some minute degree of affection towards Jessica. If she hadn’t, the Reverend-Mother would not have left the girl in her care. The blade was double-edged; the Bene Gesserit cared not for which of the two survived, only that one of them did. Motherhood had softened Jessica to the point where she felt some empathy for her poor charge. Not enough empathy to entirely stay her hand, but enough that she wanted the girl to live. Enough that she intended to lift the burden of killing her from Paul’s narrow shoulders.
“Come here, girl.” Once she was close enough that the Bene Gesserit-trained woman could stretch out a single, finely-boned hand and press her fingers to the weapon’s temple, she bade her stop.
Jessica brushed her mind carefully up against Chryse’s, wary of the mind traps the girl had surely been taught from birth.
There were no traps. Not even a token protest.
Chryse had fewer defenses than a newborn infant. Her mind was splayed out in the open; even the slightest whisper of Voice guaranteed complete obedience. The Bene Gesserit had truly forged a weapon of a girl. She hadn’t a psyche of her own - where there should lay a personality was instead filled with iron bars of mind conditioning. Jessica’s heart ached for her. No child deserved to live like that.
A moment passed wherein she further plumbed the depths of her mind. Jessica knew then that Chryse could never use a Voice of her own. The same breeding that had left her mind wide open had left her unable to Speak. But of what use to the lineage of the Kwisatz Haderach was a girl entirely unable to use the Voice and critically susceptible to it?
The vision came on suddenly, as the waves did against the shores of Caladan. A figure whirled amongst dozens of men as they fell to their knees. The lady knew those movements by heart even though they felt wrong. It was the Weirding Way, without a doubt. At the same time, every action was utterly alien. Chryse moved through the battlefield like a valkyrie of old with hands that created ruination with every twitch. Her deficit of Voice was more than made up by her complete mastery over the physical realities of others. Lungs collapsed inwards; hearts refused to beat; nerves froze. Blood. Oceans of blood.
Without meaning to, her fingers fell away from the girl’s temple in astonishment and the vision dissipated like morning mist.
The Kwisatz Mother had bred an abomination.
The laws of nature should have forbidden such a being from coming into existence. No doubt, she wouldn’t have without the careful guidance of the Bene Gesserit. What infinite combination of genes could produce a person who could bend human bodies to their will? A weapon to be wielded against the very molecules of anatomy? Chryse had quite a bit further to go before she would become the war goddess Jessica saw in her vision, but her raw talent remained a cudgel poised over Paul’s head and ready to end his life.
This was an unacceptable outcome.
Forgive me, Jessica thought; forgive me for what I must do. “You will never harm Paul Atreides. You will never allow harm to come to Paul Atreides. You will always remain loyal to him and never betray him in the slightest. You will lay down your life for him.” She swallowed down her guilt as she watched her Voice take root in the blank shell of the young girl’s mind. That Chryse was now freed from Bene Gesserit absolute control was a small consolation for the crime done against her. For Paul to live, this girl must be subjugated.
Her wide, dark eyes blinked. There it was - a tiny spark of life in her young, solemn face. Chryse was just a girl. A young one, at that. Innocent. Guilt ensnared Jessica’s heart and held it in a chokehold. The sisterhood had not completely uprooted her weak personality, but there was no doubt that their conditioning program left permanent scars. Jessica’s Voice would not have affected Chryse nearly as much without it.
The lady resolved always to be tender to the girl. At a minimum, she could improve the quality of Chryse’s life. Jessica told herself this as she called for servants to take the girl, bathe her, dress her, and prepare a chamber for her near Paul’s. Was it so selfish of her to want her son to live? At any cost? Paul’s new companion would always be treated well and never punished. There were worse fates. For the Kwisatz Haderach, the Bene Gesserit could commit any number of sins.
But Jessica knew her mind and herself. This was a blood debt that she could never repay.
Paul would be safe, and the girl’s powers would never be used against him. That would be her consolation.
-
Her palms smoothed over the muscled plains of Leto’s back. The Duke was her husband in all but name, and Jessica reveled in how he relaxed at her touch. At the school on Wallach IX, she’d learned everything but the warmth of trust and partnership built from deep, mutual love. There was no room in the lives of the Bene Gesserit for any kind of love besides the love of the sisterhood. It was this trust and love that had led Jessica to birth Leto a male heir instead of the daughters she’d been commanded to produce.
Leto reluctantly pulled himself away from her to pick through some papers strewn across his desk. “What’s this I hear about a new handmaiden joining our household?”
Involuntarily, Jessica inhaled. “Ah, my new charge. Chryse. An orphan, Bene Gesserit trained but not suited to the task. Reverend-Mother Mohiam, the Imperial truth-sayer, has entrusted her safety to me.” She kept her hands out of Leto’s line of sight so he couldn’t see the tension in her white knuckles. Ever so slowly, the lady exhaled. Again, guilt. The guilt threatened to consume her whole.
Her husband had always been far too intuitive for his own good. “She is young.” Sometimes a conversation with him was like playing chess. Every word, every tone, every movement playing off those of the other. Jessica enjoyed such a conversation far more when the stakes were not nearly as high. Perhaps he knew even subconsciously what she felt, what she had done.
Jessica let the silence in the air hang.
Leto sat at his desk, his brown eyes never leaving her smooth face.
She conceded first. “It will be some time before the girl will serve as my handmaiden in truth, but is she not of an age with Paul?” Not quite a lie, not quite a truth. A certainty presented as a question even though she had already decided the answer.
With no other child from her in sight and no political marriage alliance contracted to provide others, her son remained at the forefront of his father’s concerns. “Paul must keep his attention turned towards his lessons. I trust you, Jessica. He cannot be distracted.” Leto was known to others as inscrutable and honorable. She could read every emotion that flickered across his handsome face. He was worried; that much was plain. He was worried about what the legacy he’d built and the enemies he made might do to his kind son. His only son.
Even though he would never know it, the solution to his worries was close at hand. “My love, every child needs a companion. There are no children of an age with Paul on Caladan and certainly none suitable for his station. I’ve seen his loneliness. I know you have too.” The truth in her words was undeniable. Only eleven years old, and Paul had never known a friend his age on Caladan. He glued himself to his filmbooks and the stories of Duncan Idaho and Gurney Halleck. Leto cared for more than just raising an heir. Jessica knew he loved Paul. He worried about his well-being. Her husband would grant her this wish. Check.
“What better place for a friend than a girl in his mother’s service? They won’t have to be parted for quite some time. And there is no better judge of caliber than the Bene Gesserit.”
His resigned sigh echoed in the quiet of his study. Checkmate. “You’re right.” Leto’s footsteps as he got up and drew closer to her were a comforting rhythm. She knew that rhythm by heart.
“I do tend to be.” The impulse to feel the rhythm of his pulse beneath her hands overtook her, and she let it. Jessica reached out to press herself to him. Her Duke responded in kind as he gently drew her arms around his neck and brushed his forehead against hers.
It was more than enough sometimes to breathe in the same air as her beloved. To know that she shared space, time, and life with him.
Leto pressed a kiss to her mouth. Without any further words, he left the room.
Her fingers pressed against her closed eyes as if to alleviate the burden she’d taken upon herself. All of this would be justified in the end. Jessica had to keep faith in that.
Reposting this unfinished dune fic i started during the 1st movie and orphaned on ao3! Seems as if there's interest. LMK if you want on the tag list.

Obsessed with the idea of 1389-1889 Hob being asked to be Dream’s lover, husband, partner and agreeing but also completely misunderstanding the nature of their relationship.
Hob’s been around the block a couple (hundred) times, he knows what these words mean for a man like him. Men like them. He will be a kept man, a paramour, a secret, maybe a bit more open than not, depending on his Strangers’s social circle and the power he wields, but it’s not like their relationship can be official. What a preposterous idea! Maybe they’ll be able to carve out a little space for themselves where they will be able to be as open as possible. Weirder things have happened (says the immortal to an endless)
It’s possible that The Stranger already has a wife or a female lover and he can only hope they can be civil towards one another. Hopefully The Stranger has some sort of arrangement with her, he’d hate to be a source of awkwardness or some sort of revenge plot.
I’m guessing if Dream revealed his status as a king to 1389 and 1489 Hob, Hob’s train of thought would go something like this: “men can’t get married” “Dream is a king, kings can do whatever they want” “Dream can have a gay marriage, as a treat”.
Further than that things could get a bit more complicated (also 1589 Hob was a happily married man, I think he’d reject Dream, mostly because the 13/1489 Hobs would be attracted and mesmerised by his power, wealth and mystery while 1589 would have both in abundance and he was at this point getting used to the idea of The Guy Who Made Me Immortal just being there).
1689 Hob would probably agree to literally anything Dream would want and would not consider himself worthy of being anything akin to “a lover”, more like a servant with benefits (I have so many feels about 1689 Hob and Avelera’s Giving Sanctuary is blamed for all of them) - scrub the floor, chop the wood, suck my dick, wash the dishes; do well enough and you may sleep on the kitchen floor next to the fire tonight and not in the basement.
Which brings us to the MVP of their interactions - the 1789.
Imagine, if you will, that after fighting lady Constantine and her goons, Dream openly propositions Hob and Hob agrees to go with him. Dream transports them to his ridiculously lavish bedroom (either in the dreaming or somewhere in the waking world) and Hob has a decision to make - he can either start questioning things or take things in stride, get laid, and then question things. He chooses the latter.
However, after they are finished Hob notices that their clothes are neatly folded while he knows they left them rumpled on the floor and there are refreshments available that definitely were not there before. Dream makes an offhand comment that his servants must have come in and sorted it for them while they were busy. Hob has no problem with servants watching them have sex, he’s lived long enough to have been on both sides of this, but he is uneasy with the fact that Dream’s servants had seen him being intimate with a man. With Hob. This unease only grows when Dream offhandedly mentions that they are awful gossips and probably his entire Kingdom now knows that he has a new lover. (This is how Hob finds out that Dream is a King with a kingdom and subjects) Hob is devastated, because the last thing he wanted was for Dream to be ridiculed because of him but now his entire kingdom is aware that Dream has been with a man?
Meanwhile, Dream is literally writing invitations to a 10 day feast he’s planning to throw in the honour of his Lover, Maybe A Husband One Day Who Knows.
Seriously, tho: “Be my husband” “sure! I want nothing more to be able to call you…. wait what are you doing?” “Inviting people to our wedding” “Our what?!”

It's not uncommon for worlds to collide. Lines get crossed, voids meld, portals malfunction. And when gods and magic are far from few, it's easy to see why.
Still, when the Syndicate comes across five astronauts, tied together and floating rather calmly in the void, they're not any less surprised.
"Uh," Phil calls out, "hello?"
The astronauts––at least, they look like astronauts, though their yellow suits look too battered to actually work––turn to look. They blink, baffled.
"How are you standing like that?" one of them asks, ink-black eyes squinting. He clutches a dark purple egg to his chest.
"Like what?" Niki asks.
"You're just... standing," another astronaut says, this one mustachioed. "How are you just standing in the middle of the void?"
"We're walking somewhere," Connor says.
"Why, can't you guys walk?" Phil asks.
"Not to our knowledge," says a female astronaut. She's floating completely upside down, almost lying down mid-air, her head tilted back to look at the Syndicate. Her eyes are a solid color, like the one with black eyes, but hers are a bright silver. Between the two of them, they're extremely creepy. "And we rather like floating, to be honest."
Suddenly a look of recognition comes over Kristin, and She gasps. "Oh, you guys are the Boatem Hermits! You made it out!" She says.
"Yeah, we are. We did." An astronaut with a smooth American voice says slowly. "Wait, do we know you?"
"Not really. But I've seen you guys around. It's nice to see you're okay. I had complete faith in you guys."
"Thank you, lady we've never met!" another American astronaut pipes up cheerfully.
Phil leans towards Kristin. "Sorry, who are they?"
"Their world was crushed recently by the moon," Kristin explains. "I haven't had time to check up on them, but I wasn't too worried." She looks back at the astronauts––Boatem, apparently. "Are the others okay?"
At that the astronauts lapse into a somber silence. "We're not sure," the mustachioed one mutters. "We were all in a bit of a rush."
The rest hum in agreement, and then are silent again.
"Our world was destroyed too," Niki says. "I mean, not by the moon, but by a nuke."
"Ah, classic," the first American murmurs.
"I... guess? But we get it, not knowing if... if there's anything, or anyone left. It's kind of scary."
"Yeah. But I'm sure the rest of your friends got out fine," Phil pipes up. "I mean if we all did, then surely they did as well."
"This sheep also survived." Connor gestures to Rosie. "If a sheep can survive, so can the rest of your friends."
"That's... strangely very comforting," the black-eyed one says.
"Thanks."
"Well, I hope you all get to the next world soon. I'm afraid we have to keep moving, but I will see you guys around." Kristin turns to the Syndicate. "We should keep going."
"Will they be okay staying here?" Niki asks.
"Oh yeah, they'll be fine. They've been around for longer than you guys have."
"Oh yeah, we've been doing just swell here, all things considered!" the second American assures. Upon closer inspection there appears to be a sleeping cat in his helmet. That's... normal. "You can just toddle on your way, don't mind us. But thank you for your words of wisdom, random void passersby!"
"Sure thing dude," Connor says, giving a thumbs up. Rosie baas.
"Alright, well. Nice to meet you guys," Phil waves and chuckles as Kristin leads them away.
"Bye!" Niki does the same. The astronauts all wave and say their farewells, and soon they're merely another speck of dust in the endless black.
Distantly, the shrill shriek of the black-eyed astronaut rings out, "Wait, we don't even need suits!"

Today I was forced to do internet banking for the first time in like four years (sad) and they’ve put in a bunch of new security shit I don’t understand and all my info like my phone number and stuff was out of date, so I had to physically go into the branch and actually ask the teller “can you please help me do internet banking” like I’m some doddering old dear who doesn’t understand this newfangled World Wide Web thing and IT GETS WORSE, because they’re like ‘okay so the easiest way to deal with our security is if you have our app on your phone’ and I DO NOT WANT apps on my phone and I grumble about this in the most Old Man Way possible but they say it’s the easiest so fine, we can do that, only there’s an in-bank security step for authenticating the app so the lady helping me has to sit down and wait while I pull out my old scratched beaten-up dinosaur of a Barely Counts As A Smartphone, wait forever for it to wake up, and open the app store.
I do not know where the app store is.
Okay, this lady explains to me (she is very good at customer service and there’s absolutely no sign on her face that she is baffled how someone like me can even be alive, even though logically she HAS TO be thinking that), it should be in your apps. Look at your apps.
I do not know how to look at my apps. I use like 4 apps (call, text, photos, music) and I put them on the front screen thing ages ago. I push all of the buttons on the phone and apps do not appear. There’s nothing in settings or anything either.
Try swiping up, she says.
I try this a few times. My phone does not register the contact. On the fourth time, it realises that I want it to do something, and oh, there are the apps. We install the app. We do all the sign-in and authentification code shit and it does not work. We do it again and it does not work again.
“If I had a checkbook I’d be out of here by now,” I say. She laughs because it is true. We’ve been here for twenty minutes. I restart my phone to see if that’s the problem and grumble under my breath about how banking never used to be so complicated. As I open the app again, I ask how people do internet banking if they don’t have phones.
She seems puzzled by the question. “We have ways for them to do banking,” she says, “but most... most people have phones.”
She’s probably right. You probably need a phone to survive if you’re homeless these days.
The program loads now but catches us in an endless sign-in loop and the problem, we learn from a supervisor who’s wandered over (presumably to see how helping one idiot put an app on their phone could possibly be taking so long) is actually not on my end. There’s something wrong with the version of the app that the woman assisting me has put on my account on the computer (that’s her half in this operation), so we have to uninstall the app on both systems and reinstall it. Fine. I uninstall the app. Now to go to the app store.
I have forgotten how to access the app store. I push all of the buttons on the phone and apps do not appear. There’s nothing in settings or anything either.
Try swiping up, the woman says.
Oh. There’s the app store.
We install it and get caught in an endless loop again but I am computer savvy enough to know that if restarting and reinstalling doesn’t work then sometimes just trying the same thing over and over again will make it work for no reason, and it does, after I sign in three times in a row we can FINALLY authenticate the app and I can FINALLY use it for two-factor authentication and I CAN FINALLY DO INTERNET BANKING AGAIN.
“Thanks for your help,” I say.
“No problem.”
“I’m sorry it took so long,” I say.
“It’s really not a problem,” she says, and because she’s a professional it’s totally convincing, but I have helped people with tech before and I know how much it sucks. I look at this woman who, on any other day, would be a good few years older than me, but not today. For today, I am a doddering 96-year-old woman who wishes for a simple chequebook and does not like smartphones.
I get up, and I pick up my bag and my walking stick, and I leave the bank, thinking about the scarf I’ve been knitting and how much more work I have to do on it. I wonder if I should bake scones tonight.
I have already forgotten how to open the app store.

HE'S OBSESSED WITH YOU Awww, look guys!! It's couple of the year! (ノ^ヮ^)ノ*:・゚✧
༘⋆✿ No but seriously. How dare you exist? How dare you become the exact embodiment of this boy's wildest dreams? (/lh + /aff)
The world of the yokai is already a diverse plane, so the possibility (read: literal existence) of unicorn yokai being a reality was never not thereeee . . . .
Our Neon Leon just never got that far. Haha.
So trust that when homeboy sees you for the first time, he does a whole double-take.
༘⋆✿ He is, enthralled. You have him entirely wrapped around your pretty li'l majestic finger. Ope- there he is, kissing up your knuckles! (Just shove him away.) (He'll come back. He knows you can't resist his charm.)
Let's be real: the first time he caught a glimpse of you, it was in passing, and he could not stop thinking about you for the rest of . . . well, until you see each other again!
His brothers probably know every little detail about you (physically wise) before you guys even get together lmwoooo.
He would NOT SHUT UP about the "majestic unicorn lady down in Times Square down in the Hidden City (人*´∀`)。*゚+ . . . NO, HE WAS NOT HALLUCINATING DONNIE. He really saw you! >:("
(Donnie definitely wouldn't miss out on an opportunity to tease his twin but I feel he'd be just as interested in the aspect of your existence! What can I say? The man's a scientist. He tries to run genetic tests but Leo doesn't let him and shoo's him away each time he even comes close to you with in-the-name-of-science intent lolz)
༘⋆✿ Thinks you're the most magical thing to ever grace this wretched earth.
And, if magic is a bit of a stereotype for your kind?
If you can't actually- . . . if you don't have magical abilities— that doesn't make you any less in Leo's eyes!! To him, your whole existence itself is magical. ✨ His words, not mine. (/lh)
He's all over you any other way.
Casual settings, ranging from cozy atmospheres such as date nights to the eccentric zany missions, circling back to midnights on the rooftops,
Just sneaking into your everyday life in broad daylight,
with or without his signature hoodie,
but always with his charming smile.
He's your new constant, just like you're his.
However! If you do share in the mystic aspect that comes with being a yokai, or a direct descendant mutant of a mysticism involved bloodline (*stares hard in bro's general direction*) —
you're gonna get dragged into a bunch of crazy thematic shenanigans that
- more often than not -
end up with you guys bustin' your butts in a mad escape from some rogue yokai of sorts.
During the calmer times tho? You'd indulge him.
Set off little magical cotton-candy pink shadow puppets dancing across the walls of his bedroom while he cuddles close to you, churring softly while rubbing his cheek against yours, his eyes sparkling with nothing short of adoration.
Whether you're casting those little puppet shows out of your own volition,
or from the music box Leo had gifted to you on a date he'd nabbed from a cute little shop in the Hidden City,
that's up for you to decide.
It's a sweet bonding time either way. (✿ᴗ͈ˬᴗ͈)⁾⁾
༘⋆✿ . . . He has his moments of trademark insufferability, tho. You knew it was coming.
"Ooo! Ooh, I know!- can you magic up a pizza?"
"Can you teleport like me? If I got you in a high enough position, could you defeat our enemies with the power of friendship?"
"Can you make fireworks come outta your fingers? It'd make a lotta sense, seeing as you have magic fingers; that massage last night did wonders for my scales, cutie. I'll help brush your feathers later, hm?"
"Oh- OH! I know! Can you-"
"Leonnn."
༘⋆✿ Magic abilities, no magic abilities. Noodles, no noodles . . . One thing about this funky blueberry muffin is he will be absolutely obsessed with you, through and through.
"You're all the magic I need in my life, [Name]."
༘⋆✿ If being one of his favorite existing creatures wasn't enough, let's talk about your fashion!! Now he adores your fashion sense. Your entire aesthetic. He loves unicorns, he loves every sugar-spice-and-everything-nice thing surrounding said unicorns! You're such a vision to him.
But shortly after you both got together, and you started incorporating blue into your everyday style??
Mm.
Reeeeemember when I told you that he's a little (read: extremely) obsessed?
Yeah. Good luck tryna get him off of you like this. (/hj)
Like, girl- as soon as you step into the lair and he catches you wearing blue?
It could be the most inconspicuous detailing of an accessory - and he'll still catch it.
NOTHING EVADES HIS NINJA TRAINED SUPERWEAPON MUTANT VISION.
—And he is ZOOMING OVERRRRR with the biggest grin and just.
Purely cajoling. An absolute cajoler.
A professional flatterer.
Honey is what his words are made of, made to drown you in their syrupy sweetness and trap you like a helpless fly in his venus flytrap of all-encompassing love.
(Except he's being 100% serious.)
"I knew it'd be a matter of time before I rubbed off on you, bonita. Look at you! Spitting image of absolute beauty, if I do say so myself. Blue is definitely your color. You should wear this forever, actually, from now on. Always."
Expanding on this, he lends you his clothes! :'))
If they can't fit you (y'know, wings and all) HE WILL LITERALLY CUT HOLES IN THE BACK SO YOUR WINGS CAN POP THROUGH AKSHDJDHFH —
*SLAMS FISTS ON TABLE* YOU GUYS WILL DO THE ICONIC BOYFRIEND-GIRLFRIEND HOODIE STEALING THING, IT IS NON-NEGOTIABLE.
(He's a simp. And a little bit freaky. (/ns) But you didn't hear it from me.)
Something about seeing you in his clothes just makes him feel so fuzzy and warm inside.
It makes him feel wanted. Sorta gives him a sense of security. A reaffirmation that you're his and he's yours.
Soft, warm, pure, fuzzy feelin'. Good for the soul. ☁
Like when you hug him with your wings!
He loves that feeling. (..◜ᴗ◝..)
༘⋆✿ Speaking of those luxurious wings . . .
Each time they start to fluff up and flap when he comes within your general vicinity, he gets SO SMUG.
What can we expect from Mr. [Macho Ego] Charmer himself??
"Looks like someone's happy to see me." As if he's not over the entire universe to see you too, smh.
and then you excitedly affirm his words — rather than getting annoyed, even if playfully — and he just gives you the most enamored expression.
Well — it's a fine mix of smugness (because I mean c'mon. It's Leo.) and fond adoration.
He thinks you're so, so adorable.
Cuteness aggression galore.
Once you're trapped in his embrace there's no escape.
Nobody is safe, and
He is fooling NOBODY.
I mean, his own tail starts wagging whenever he sees you . . .
and sometimes, he subconsciously churrs loud enough for you to hear whenever you guys are close, which is literally all the time, . . .
So he can't really speak. Now can he?
(He does anyway. It's Leo.)
If you're okay with it, he definitely pets your wings.
He likes to run his fingers through the feathers. They're just so fluffy.
' Is this what clouds feel like? '
At first he mostly did it to fluster you, seeing as it seemed to have the same blissful effect of him getting shell/chin scritches, but over time, it just happens naturally.
He seeks it out ─ it becomes a source of comfort to him.
Not only because they're so soft and fluffy, hereby appeasing his sensory needs, but also because it's you.
Asks you if you can fly lmwo.
Begs you to take him for a flight by moonlight but y'all will literally go crashing down AJSHDJDHD
Until, you actually do . . . pick him up, that is.
Until you actually do . . . take him for a moonlight flight.
Until you indulge him in everything because you love him so much and would do anything and everything to put a smile on his face.
He's shell shocked (I AM SO HILARIOUS).
A blushing, stuttering mess.
Bro doesn't know what to do with himself.
A turtle? Nay. A tomato.
Someone tell bro not to dish what he can't take lolllll.
༘⋆✿ Sure, he'll tease you a little bit (It's Leo.) but it's all out of love!! Pardon his major ego, he'll throw it all away for you at the drop of a pin; he genuinely loves and cares for you and how you perceive him.
In turn, this causes him to show out a lot more whenever you're around, subconsciously standin' on bidness 25/8 to 'prove himself' to you,
but you also just make him so giddy.
How can he not want to squish and hug and cuddle you and plant kisses all over your cute little face every time he sees you?
He treats you so, so gently.
You're his princess and he beholds you like absolute royalty.
Yes, he may roughhouse from time to time, but he's capable of handling you like fine china.
It makes you feel just as special as it sounds, aughhh.
It's a nice balance in your relationship. <3
At first, he may be a little shy and not know how to handle how trusting and loving you are.
Well, lemme rephrase : he loves how much you love him, because he loves you a lot too!! Whatever affection you give him, he returns tenfold.
You're just so precious he can't help himself, nor would he try.
It's the trust part.
He's . . . well, he can get kind of overwhelmed and in his head about it sometimes.
Especially when his insecurities come to play at the surface :(
He just cares for you so much, it's scary. How much he cares.
— it's a swirling mess of many different things: "you'll put her in danger", "you'll end up disappointing her", "there's someone better out there for her", "why should she trust you?" but at its core, it's all the same:
does he really deserve you?
Precious, pure, sweet, ethereal you?
Surely not, is what his mean brain tells him.
But you're persistent. And with time, dedication, and consistency, you get him to realize that.
Leo is family-driven.
He's deeply devoted to his loved ones and would give the entire world for those he cares about.
Despite his boasting of how awesome of a character he is, he doesn't really believe it like that all the time :((
But he really is a wonderful person.
and you help him further recognize that!!
༘⋆✿ He wants to become the best version of himself when he's with you. He wants to be worth your trust and affection and attention; the self-expansion that manifests from your guys' relationship is one that will turn him for the decades to come. (bro just needs to realize he was worth it all along 😔✊ he's a little slow but he's trying his best, that's what matters.)
It's wondrous what can come from a foundation built on mutual love and trust and respect.
Trust and be trusted.
Love and be loved.
Leo is one who gives and gives, even when he's running low on it for himself.
Blessedly, breathtakingly, you're there to fill that cup for him every time.
And he couldn't be more grateful.
Cuddles close to you, planting loving kisses all over your soft face, from your eyebrow ridges to your lips and relishing in the sweet giggles that he's rewarded with in return.
"I love you," he murmurs. "I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you"
And onnn and onnnn he goes. (♡ˊ͈ ꒳ ˋ͈)
Because he does.
He really, really does.
And you believe him too.
━☆・.ೃ࿔:・♡
One thing will forever remain for sure:
Choosing and loving you was the best decision of his entire life.
And having you choose him day by day as well? Ah, well, what can I say?
He's in the sugary pink cotton candy clouds, and it's the beautiful serenade of you. (*´ω`*)

Kay so I already posted this a month or so ago, but I find it very applicable to the fandom rn
The lore in Nightfall is actually insane. You're telling me that hundreds of humans went missing, and when the Elvin Leadership did NOTHING the humans revolted so hard-core that ya'll really had to DISSAPERE from their knowledge? "But it was to keep the peace!"
Nuh uh.
If you REALLY wanted peace you would have actually looked into the disappearances. That would have been waaay easier to pull off than erasing hundreds of minds and flibbety-dippen SINKING an entire city into the ocean. Despite Elven egos, I think that the council got scared. That's right. The humans you call dumb and violent SCARED you into hiding.  We ugly, weak, and untalented things decided enough was enough and you couldn't handle it.
What's extra crazy is the fact that the Elvin world has everything in their pockets OTHER THAN THE HUMANS. You're telling me that we idiots rule the Earth while you lock yourselves and others away?
An even crazier thing is that Elves view themselves above everything, even if they won't admit it at the get-go. Ogres really are pissed about it. They are CRAZY strong but also incredibly intelligent. The average elf understands nothing about Biochemistry (other than extreme exceptions such as Lady Candace) yet Ogres have things that can wipe out entire species and put Elves in endless comas. "But the Neverseen used the sedative so they understand it!"
Nuh uh.
They stole the research from the Ogre scientists. (Or made a deal with the king I honestly don't remember at this point). They NEVER would have pulled that off without them. And guess what? Ogres are a generally violent species as well but the Elves keep them around. (Albeit on a short leash).
The humans have a similar situation. Many times in the books a human story, invention, or belief is brought up only for someone to smugly say "They get that from us", or "he was inspired by ME". I believe there was also a scene where someone talks about how human "help" organizations were terminated because the information shared with them led to dangerous inventions. Don't you guys just love it when Elves claim credit for all good ever done by humans? But as soon as a nuclear power plant or bomb is mentioned (crazy complicated crap) it's suddenly the nasty humans and their dumb, violent minds. *insert eye-roll* Which is it? Are we smart or dumb? Are WE responsible or are YOU? Ya'll can't cherry-pick. Elves also pretend that they have control over humans, yet you can't stop an invention from destroying a Japanese City and ending a devastating war that killed more Jews than the average Elf could comprehend? If humans are so terrible, THEN WHY HAVEN’T YOU STOPPED US YET? WHY DIDN'T YOU KILL US WHEN YOU HAD THE CHANCE? oh that's right, you're too scared.
My final thought: The fact that HUMANS are what Vespera chose to "study". Why not Ogres or Trolls? Were humans the easier target, or was there some other reason? The fact of the matter is that Humans and Elves are more similar than either of us would like to admit. Ogre's minds are too different than an Elf's. Human minds are only different in the sense of how loud they are.  In fact, that's arguably the most important difference between us. We humans are loud, we feel intensely and love like nothing Elves would understand. For we love for our short lives while they wander on for eternity. The only reason we can handle violence is because we have to fend for ourselves. Elves have protectors and little green people to do their dirty work. Humans have to live through thick and thin, slavery, war, loss, and heartbreak. When Elvin minds shatter, our minds find ways to make it through. Lose someone? We make up afterlife after afterlife and history shows different religions arising when the general public needs a way to work through their violent and tiring lives. But maybe we AREN’T so different. The characters presented as able to handle violence/are inclined to it either had to suffer violence and neglect, lived through endless years of times before the treaties and the council, or spent time with humans. Take Fitz as a prime example. Bro legit beat the shit out of Alvar and trapped him in goo to die. NOTHING IN THE BOOKS SHOWS FITZ FEELING ANY GUILT FOR THIS. Hm...seems like a very "human" thing to do.
The real reason Elves fear us is because we're just an untethered form of themselves with shorter life spans and a lot less to lose. We feel more deeply, more “violently”. As the books go on the Council itself is presented in a more kick-butt way as they finally step up to Vespera and the horrors she caused.
That sounds a lot like The Humans of Atlantice.

this one-shot is very special as it belongs to an alternative Harry Potter universe.
I walked through the corridors of Hogwarts, tears streaming down my cheeks, my breath uneven, and my chest aching. My vision was blurred by the tears, and audible sobs escaped my lips. I just wanted to get out of that cursed place.
Still, I could vividly recall the image of her eyes widening in surprise, and that hurt so much.
Flashback:
With a smile on my face, I entered through the portrait of the Fat Lady, arriving in the Gryffindor common room. I had just finished Quidditch practice and had achieved excellent results. All I wanted to do now was to fall asleep in the arms of my girlfriend, Hermione. I smiled just at the thought of her name. I hurriedly climbed the stairs and walked toward my destination. When I reached our shared room, I noticed the door was slightly ajar. "That's strange... Hermione never leaves the door open." Instinctively, I reached for my wand and cautiously entered, ready to confront anyone who had entered without permission. I slowly closed the door behind me, and strange noises came from inside. The sounds grew louder and clearer. "What on earth is this?" I opened the door, and my world crumbled before my eyes. My body temperature plummeted, and I could hear the sound of my heart breaking into a thousand pieces. I still couldn't believe what I was seeing. Hermione was kissing Ron. The brunette had her arms around Ron's neck, pulling the redhead closer to her, their lips locked in a passionate kiss. My fingers loosened their grip on the wand, and it fell to the floor, drawing the attention of the two lovers. Hermione's eyes widened as she saw my tear-filled eyes, and she quickly pushed Ron away, covering herself hurriedly. "Love, it's not what it looks like." End of Flashback:
I stopped and realized I was standing in front of the Ravenclaw house. Unconsciously, I had arrived at Jenna Ortega's house, my best friend.
I wiped my eyes with my sleeve and bit my lip, trying to contain the hiccup that threatened to escape. I took a step forward and slipped through the door, which was opened by a student leaving at that moment.
I made my way toward the rooms, stopping abruptly when I heard noises coming from a corner of the Common Room.
Laughter could be heard in the distance near the sofas.
I headed toward the sound of laughter and spotted Jenna's characteristic raven-black hair in the distance. The young Ravenclaw was laughing, probably at some lousy jokes from Enid. My attention focused on Jenna's profile: her delicately upturned nose, her brown eyes shining as they turned toward her friends, and her heart-shaped lips forming a shy smile. I watched as a dimple formed on her cheek each time she raised the corners of her lips.
With subtlety, the raven-haired girl turned in my direction.
As soon as her eyes met mine, I couldn't hold back the tears, and I burst into tears. The warm smile on Jenna's face quickly faded, replaced by a look of deep concern. Without a second thought, Jenna got up from the couch and quickly walked toward me, leaving her friends and Enid somewhat incredulous.
My hands were trembling, and sobs escaped uncontrollably from my mouth.
Two arms wrapped around my waist, and I immediately returned the hug, crying into Jenna's neck. After what felt like endless seconds, Jenna broke the embrace and gently cupped my cheeks, wiping away the remaining tears with her thumbs. Brown eyes looked into mine with concern.
"What happened?" she asked timidly, taking my hands and stroking them to calm me. "Her... her... her..." I stammered, and she smiled at me, trying to reassure me. "Hermione," I finally said, and new tears welled up in my eyes. Jenna interlocked our fingers and quickly walked to her room, seeking privacy.
She was a prefect, so she had her own room.
We entered her room and walked over to her bed, sitting down on it. "What happened? Did you two have a fight?" Jenna asked absentmindedly, playing with my hands.
I stared intently at our intertwined hands, focusing on the gentle touch of my best friend. Jenna's nails traced slowly across the palm of my hand, as if trying to comfort me. A knot formed in my throat, and a soft hiccup escaped my lips. Tears welled up in my eyes.
"She... she..." I took a breath. "She cheated on me," I whispered the last part.
Jenna's eyes widened in surprise, and a flash of anger mixed in her dark irises. She clenched her jaw, and her knuckles turned white from the tight grip of her hands. "She what?" she whispered, utterly infuriated. "After practice, I went back to the room, and I found her with Ron," I said, feeling a pang in my chest."Am I not enough?" I asked with a broken tone, causing more tears to roll down my cheeks.
Her gaze softened.
"No, no, no, you're amazing," Jenna took my cheeks and made me look into her eyes, smiling at me. "You're beautiful, smart, and incredibly amazing... anyone would be lucky to have you... it's not your fault she didn't know how to appreciate you," she said, her eyes closing slightly after the last sentence, still angry at what Granger had done. The pressure in her jaw faded, and she looked at me with tenderness.
I'm not sure if it was because of my vulnerability and hurt at that moment, but I gently moved my face closer to hers and kissed her softly, a completely unexpected kiss. Jenna was stiff to the touch, totally taken aback by my action. I decided to pull away slowly, thinking that maybe I had made a mistake, but then, a gentle hand landed on the nape of my neck, pulling me toward her face, uniting us again in a passionate kiss.The raven-haired girl melted under my lips, and she started moving her lips softly, with a gentle and unhurried rhythm. My hands moved along her waist, slowly caressing her exposed skin. A smile formed on Jenna's lips as we continued kissing, and without realizing it, I smiled too. When I felt her tongue brushing against my lower lip, seeking a deeper kiss, I opened my eyes wide and quickly pulled away from her.
What did I do?
"I... oh my God, I'm sorry," I got up from the bed, looking ashamed at Jenna.
The raven-haired girl had trouble breathing, her cheeks were flushed, and her lips were slightly parted as she tried to calm her heavy breathing. Her hair was disheveled, and her eyes had a very different gleam from the usual. She forced a weak smile and got up from the bed.
"It was a mistake... I'm sorry," I admitted, looking at her with guilt. Jenna shook her head slowly, taking my hand. I felt terribly like shit when I saw her eyes glistening.
A single tear rolled down her cheek.
"Y/N..." she whispered, caressing my hand. My eyes looked at her lips.
It's not fair... I just broke up with Hermione... I don't want to hurt Jenna.
"Jenna... it was something I didn't think through... it was spontaneous... I was hurt... angry..." I confessed, and I saw her eyes fill with tears. She blinked back the tears, clenching her jaw and breaking the contact between our hands.
"I'm sorry..." I added, moving closer.
"Y/N/N... you don't need to apologize," Jenna swallowed nervously, closing her eyes at the touch of my hand on her cheek. "I liked it," she said, her eyes closing slightly, still blushing, her lips partially open, trying to calm her heavy breathing.
"I am in love with you" Jenna confessed with a sigh.
I leaned forward and gave her a tender kiss on the forehead. Then, I stepped back, looking at her with a mix of emotions and confusion, trying to decipher my feelings and which path to take next.
For a long time, I wrestled internally with my feelings for Hermione and Jenna. I often tried to convince myself that Jenna was just a good friend and that my feelings for her were confusing. However, in the fifth year, everything changed when I saw her with another guy. At that moment, I felt a burning fire in my stomach and an uncontrollable wave of jealousy that made me realize there was something deeper.
I felt scared by those feelings. I didn't want to jeopardize our friendship, so I chose to bury my emotions and give Hermione a chance. I developed genuine feelings for the golden girl and fell in love with her, but deep down, I knew it would be challenging to leave behind my first love, especially when she was my best friend.I loved Hermione, but my feelings for Jenna still lingered, always present in my heart.
"Jen... it's just... not the right time," I looked at her, and I saw the shine in her eyes. I noticed she was clenching her jaw tightly, struggling not to break down in front of me.
"Can we discuss it another time?" I suggested, and she nodded slowly, accepting my proposal.I approached the door and opened the handle, stepping out of her room with a broken heart and many doubts.
(...)
I had just left my Arithmancy class, carrying the book under my arm with the intention of heading towards Jenna's room. For the past two weeks, I had been avoiding her, needing space and time to reflect on everything. However, I had to admit that I missed her a lot and was ready to address the topic I had been dreading.
The memory of the kiss kept replaying in my mind, even invading my dreams with the brown eyes of the dark-haired girl. Let's just say that while I hadn't seen her in person all this time, Ortega had been psychologically tormenting me.
I couldn't help but smile unconsciously.
My smile was immediately replaced by a look of disgust and sadness when I saw Granger walking towards me in the distance. Just by looking into her eyes, my heart broke even more. Her unmistakable hazel eyes were filled with tears.
"Y/N... I've been looking for you... we need to talk," she said, clenching her jaw, a single tear rolling down her cheek. She reached out and took my hand, gently holding my fingers. As if I had touched fire, I withdrew my hand and took a step back, shaking my head slowly.
"Don't touch me," I whispered with a broken voice. After days of crying, I had finally calmed down, but seeing Granger made a lump form in my throat. I didn't want to cry in front of the golden girl; I didn't want to show weakness.
I swallowed hard and lifted my chin, looking at her with detachment. "Please... we need to talk," she repeated, slightly hurt after my rejection. I clenched the book and walked forward, lightly bumping her shoulder with mine. "We have nothing to discuss."
Before I could walk away, a hand grabbed my wrist.
"Please... it was a mistake... I love you," Hermione said with a tone so sweet and wounded that I almost believed it.
Almost.
"How long?" I asked, clenching my jaw. "How long have you been cheating on me?" At this point, we were face to face, our breaths mingling. Her grip faltered, and she averted her gaze. "How long, Hermione?" I demanded, getting angrier, raising my voice.
"Two months," she confessed in a whisper, moving closer.
I pulled my hand away, looking at her with a mocking smile. "Six months of a relationship, and you cheated for two..." I shook my head in disappointment and disgust. "Goodbye, Hermione, don't look for me anymore," I told her coldly, and her eyes filled with tears.
She threw herself into my arms, preventing me from walking. I stiffened at the contact.
"Hermione... let me go," I said, my voice firm.
She broke the hug and looked at me with wounded eyes. I averted my gaze, trying not to fall into her trap.
"We need to talk," she whispered again.
"Haven't you understood, Granger?" someone intervened. I turned toward the voice and found two brown eyes. Jenna Ortega was looking at Hermione with anger.
"Mind your own business, Ortega," Hermione said venomously.
"Jenna..." I whispered.
Jenna locked her eyes with mine, showing a mix of hurt and happiness at seeing me. She gave me a weak smile.
The two girls glared at each other, their jaws clenched, restraining themselves from drawing their wands and hexing each other.
"Hermione... I don't want you to hurt each other... so I ask you to leave," I said, feeling a pang in my chest. Hermione looked at me with sadness for a split second, then took a step back and shook her head as she walked away from my sight.
It was just Jenna and me.
I approached the Ravenclaw, strangely nervous and with a racing heart. My palms were sweaty, and my legs trembled slightly. I was having the reaction of a teenager with her first love. I took a deep breath and looked at Jenna, who observed me curiously.
"Jenna, I..." I whispered, then took another breath. "To be honest, I've always felt something for you," I confessed, looking impassively at the dark-haired girl.
Jenna gave me a big smile.
"In these two weeks, I've thought a lot about you... and also about Hermione... I... I managed not to cry in front of her, you know," she took my hands, caressing them slowly. "I feel guilty for avoiding you," I admitted, and she shook her head, letting go of my hand and placing hers on my cheek.
"You needed space," she said, caressing my cheek, and I leaned into her touch.
Suddenly, her gaze became more serious, and she stood on tiptoe, bringing her face closer to mine. My heart was pounding, nervous about the proximity. Jenna's mouth was inches from mine, her warm breath brushing against my lips. She wrapped her hands around my neck and looked deeply into my eyes, searching for any sign of rejection that she didn't find. Then, she brought her face even closer to mine, and our lips brushed.
I swallowed hard, making Jenna smile.
"I'm not ready for a relationship... I... I'm scared," I confessed in a whisper, barely parting my lips from hers. Jenna's hand moved gently on my cheek, while the other wrapped determinedly around my neck. Instinctively, I placed my hands around her waist, making it easier for our contact due to the noticeable height difference between us.
"I'll take care of you," she whispered in response, closing the gap between our lips with tenderness. Our lips met in a soft and passionate kiss, sealing our complicated connection with affection and silent promises.
"Miss L/n! Ortega!" A sharp voice reprimanded with disapproval.
We immediately pulled away, my cheeks reddening quickly as we saw Professor McGonagall in front of us, with a stern expression that hinted at a touch of amusement.
"Uh... Professor McGonagall, we were just..." I stammered, trying to find an appropriate explanation as Jenna and I looked at each other in embarrassment.
Professor McGonagall observed us with a stern gaze before letting out a small smile. "Well, Miss Y/n, Miss Ortega, I hope your... conversation was interesting. Now, please, continue with your school activities in a proper manner."
We both apologized immediately, trying to redeem ourselves for our brief moment of affection in the halls of Hogwarts. With flushed faces, we nodded to Professor McGonagall and hurried to resume our school activities, aware that we had briefly interrupted the school's routine with our fleeting moment of passion.
I'm still broken... but I have faith that I can heal.
***
"Don't you think you're being unfair to Jenna?" I glanced at Enid out of the corner of my eye, raising my eyebrows in confusion at her question. "What do you mean?" I asked with perplexity, looking into the blue eyes of my Hufflepuff friend. "They've been at this for a month now," she murmured in a hushed tone near my ear, not wanting to draw curious glances.
After the kiss I shared with Jenna, I decided to give it a chance. With a lump in my throat, I proposed that we take things slow, without putting labels on what we had. The brunette made a face, but with sparkling eyes, she asked if kisses were included, to which I replied affirmatively, but only in private.
"She deserves something better... I'm just a wounded girl, afraid of relationships," I sighed in frustration, clenching my jaw and exhaling loudly through my nose.
"Jenna loves you," Enid gave me a reassuring smile and gently embraced me, wrapping one hand around my neck. "You love her too, right?" She asked curiously, and I nodded, glancing at her from the corner of my eye. "Then give her a chance... make it official," she urged me, and I sighed, seriously considering her words.
"And... what about Hermione?" Enid murmured, and I sighed in dismay. "We're still friends... well, not like before, but we've talked," I bit my lower lip and crossed my legs to find a more comfortable position. I rested my head against the tree behind me. "After a few days, we talked, and... we resolved it, at least I think," I whispered, and Enid looked at me curiously.
"Does Jenna know?" she asked, and I nodded distractedly. "Yes, she didn't take it very well... but when I told her I just wanted to be friends with Hermione because she was in love with Ron, she agreed... though not entirely convinced," I affirmed, then played with my fingers, reflecting on the events.
My eyes turned towards Jenna, who was meanwhile playing with her friends. With a lump in my throat, I watched as her coal-colored eyes met mine, looking at me as if I were the most beautiful artwork she had ever seen in her life.
Xavier took advantage of Jenna's distraction to throw a ball directly at her face. I unconsciously stood up and, with a smile, headed in her direction, trying to figure out if she was okay. I looked closely at her as I approached, concerned about her well-being after the impact of the ball.
"Sorry, Jen," Xavier mumbled weakly, looking at Jenna with concern as he picked up the ball. "Don't worry, keep playing," Jenna said, rubbing her head to relieve the pain and squinting from the hit.
"Are you okay?" I whispered when I reached the dark-haired girl, and her eyes roamed over my figure, smiling in affirmation. "Come on, get up," I extended my hand and invited her to take it to help her stand up. "Volleyball is a terrible game for Muggles," she murmured weakly, watching the rest of her friends play the game I had suggested they try. "Sorry, Jen, I read it in a book in the Muggle section, and it seemed fun," I confessed with a small smile.
Her fingers delicately touched mine, caressing me tenderly and without ulterior motives. Our gazes met, and I gave her a nervous smile, examining her face and every detail that composed it. Jenna bit her lower lip slightly, lost in thought and with her gaze fixed on a corner of my face, specifically my lips. I ran my tongue over my upper lip, suddenly feeling the dryness in my throat.
Our faces, as if they were magnets, drew closer to each other.
"Are you okay?" I murmured in a whisper near her lips as I leaned toward her face, pressing my lips against her forehead, kissing the bruised spot. Jenna let out a sigh of relief when she felt my lips descend and land on the tip of her nose and then on her cheeks, stopping especially on the right one, which still bore the mark of the ball.
"In reality..." she murmured, releasing her fingers from mine, placing her hand on my shoulder and intertwining her fingers around my neck, absentmindedly playing with the hairs that stood on end due to our recent proximity. "It hurts here..." her lips curved into a smile when her free hand rested on them.
Jenna's neck was tilted upwards, her eyes searching mine with longing.
"Then I'll have to help you," I murmured with a playful smile, catching Jenna by surprise as she didn't expect that response. I leaned even closer, and our lips met in a sweet kiss, feeling the sigh of relief that Jenna released upon contact with me.
My hand rested on her side, pushing Jenna closer to my body during the kiss, needing more contact. A soft moan escaped from her lips, and a fiery heat ignited in the pit of my stomach upon hearing that sound, feeling utterly satisfied to be the cause of her pleasure. Jenna pressed her body closer to mine, and our lips moved urgently against each other, her mischievous hands tangled in my hair, desiring to feel the sensation between her fingers.
The need for oxygen was immediately felt, and after seconds that seemed endless, we broke the contact between our lips, breathing heavily. Immediately, a smile spread across Jenna's lips, and I, unconsciously, did the same, resting my forehead against hers.
"Wow," she murmured, then chuckled softly, leaning forward and resting her head on my neck.
I smiled as I watched Jenna and her friends who continued playing, also noticing that our Hufflepuff friend had joined them.
I sighed contentedly at the warmth of Jenna's arms around my waist. "What does this mean?" Jenna murmured distractedly, her lips brushing my skin.
A shiver ran through my body at her gesture, and I sighed deeply, suppressing the moan that threatened to escape from my lips.
"I think it's time to make it official," I exclaimed, and Jenna Ortega quickly pulled away from my arms. I looked at her in confusion at her reaction, and I was alarmed to see tears welling up in her eyes.
"Is everything okay?" I asked with concern, and the ravenclaw nodded slowly, a smile on her lips.
"It's... wonderful," she smiled sincerely and absentmindedly played with my tie. "So... can I tell my friends? Even now?" she asked, not stopping her gaze from wandering over my tie, pausing at the emblem printed on my chest.
I nodded with a warm smile, touched by the tenderness of my now official girlfriend. Jenna's joy was so contagious that I felt like my heart was about to burst with happiness. Her eyes sparkled with excitement, and I couldn't help but be infected by her enthusiasm.
Jenna started jumping in place, her arms around me, radiating happiness and excitement. She hugged me tightly. "What you said earlier... it's true, right?" she asked with a trembling voice. I looked at her with a gentle smile. "Yes, it's absolutely true," I replied with a tender kiss.
Our lips parted with a soft sound, and Jenna smiled sweetly.
"Are we girlfriends?" she asked in a soft voice, her smile lighting up her face. Her eyes searched mine for confirmation.
Tenderness filled the air as I caressed her cheek and replied, "Yes, we're officially girlfriends." Jenna let out a sigh of happiness and hugged me tighter, sealing our new relationship with a sweet kiss.
Jenna pulled away and looked at me with a smile. "I'm going to tell my friends, Girlfriend," she said quickly with a triumphant smile. Her enthusiasm and happiness were contagious, and I couldn't help but smile as I watched her run towards her friends who were still playing volleyball.
"Guys! GUYS! I HAVE A GIRLFRIEND! I HAVE A GIRLFRIEND!" Jenna shouted with excitement, and her friends smiled at her cuteness and joy. It was a moment of happiness and celebration shared by all.
As I watched Jenna and her friends, I couldn't help but think about how sometimes, even when you're afraid, love pushes you to take risks. Although there was still uncertainty on the horizon, I knew we were willing to face any challenges together because what we had was special and worth every moment.
Author: Guys… seriously, please… I put in a lot of effort to write, and I would really appreciate some comments from you… I'm not asking for much.

TW: Childbirth, death, grief…
Rhaelle Targaryen felt the grief of losing Laena. Princess Rhaenys despite navigating through her own pain and grief  she worried for the girl. The young princess would barely sleep and eat. Laenor, even though losing his sister pained him as well he worried for his wife. Daemon kept his distance, everyone believed he was trying to grief his wife. House Targaryen was at its breaking point and the night before they returned to King's Landing was the match that ignited the fire and divided the family once and for all.
Princess Rhaelle walked through the shores of Driftmark. Daemon followed her close behind, finally finding the courage to speak to her. "I know you're out there" she said loud enough for him to hear. He finally approached her. "Uncle Daemon" she greeted with a nod. "Niece" he replied. "What can I do for you, uncle?" she asked. "I wanted to speak with you" he replied before looking onto the endless sea. "About?" Daemon watched her carefully. Her eyes held no light, no glint of flintiness or even mischief as they once did. "I hear you've been watching over Rhaella" he stated.
She nodded as she too looked away, it pained him to look at him in the eyes. "Yes. I made a promise to my darling Laena that I would watch over Rhaella. I promised her that I would love her as if she was my own" he nodded. "I am..." he stopped. "I wanted to apologize" he began. "Why? Are you feeling guilty for taking her away from me?" she asked as the tears began to form. "I loved Laena, as much as I love you" he replied. Daemon seemed heartless and cold to many, that's what they had named him the Rouge Prince or Maegor The Cruel. But, everyone that knew him well knew that he loved his Lady Laena but one thing was true, he did not love her as much as he loved his princess Rhaelle.
Rhaelle looked into his eyes. Indigo meeting indigo. Some would say princess Rhaelle and her uncle shared the same eyes. The same souls. "I was never much of a believer. Not when my grandfather died, not when my brother died. Not when my mother died. But, when I received Laena's letter my world collapsed. My mind wouldn't let me rest until I could get my eyes to hers. I prayed and prayed on the way to Pentos" there was a brief pause.
Rhaelle looked at the sea once again. "I love Laena. She came into my life a time when I needed someone. When Alicent married my father my world had collapsed. She was my closest companion since the day we met. She was my first kiss. She loved me and I loved her. But, even though she loved me she could never be love me the way Laena did. Alicent was too dutiful to even be with me as Laena had" Daemon took a step closer.
Rhaelle said nothing before taking a deep breath. "Laena loved me without condition, she loved me with everything she had" he nodded. "Laena loved me. I know that much. But I know she never loved me the way she loved you" he smiled at the thought. "I remember when she told me she didn't care who I laid with as long as she was allowed to be with whoever she wished. I never paid attention to it for it was none of my concern. After all, our marriage was just a political agreement" he looked away.
He finally made it to where she stood. "But, one day, I saw her going to you. I saw her eyes lit up as you open your chamber doors. The way you smiled at her. Love and adoration in her eyes. In your eyes" he looked away from her. "I realized with time that she was utterly, completely and irrevocably in love with you. And you, were in love with her" he grabbed her hand and caressed it with his thumb.
He took a deep breath. "I remember when I confronted her about it. I was angry. Or rather jealous that she had you and I did not. I was jealous of the way you looked at her. Of the way you admired her. The was you appreciated her, her love, her company. Everything. I didn't mind that she did not love. But I did mind that you loved her and not me" he smiled at something.
He looked at Rhaelle in the eyes. "I remember when she found out I was in love with you. She never let me live that down, even when the three of us were together" Rhaelle giggled. That was something her Laena would do. "She was the one who convinced to actually speak on how I felt. She didn't mind sharing. She knew about you and Ser Harwin as well. I didn't mind either. And I knew Ser Harwin was a good man" she smiled.
Rhaelle was going through so many emotions she didn't know what to feel. She knew she missed her Laena. She knew that much. Thing was, Rhaelle didn't know where to go from there. What was her next move going to be? Laena was gone, leaving not only her family behind but her as well. When Lady Laena Velaryon died after childbirth she took a part of Rhaelle's heart with her. Leaving her with a hole in her heart that she didn't know if it would ever be filled again.
Before she could mutter a word she felt an aching pain. She knew that pain well enough. The babe was coming. Daemon noticed her discomfort. "What is it?" Daemon asked, concerned laced in his voice. "Rhaelle? What is it? Is the babe?" Daemon asked again as she did not reply. She looked up at him. "The babe. Is coming" he turned around as if to look for someone but she held his arm, asking him to turn. "Something is wrong, Daemon. I can feel it" she said, pain in her voice. She groaned in discomfort. Daemon rushed her back to Driftmark.
Laenor spotted them, Daemon carried, his steps quick. "What happened?!" Laenor asked, concerned for his wife. "The babe is coming"  Laenor froze for a second before reacting. "Give her to me" he ordered. Daemon stopped and looked at him. "Give her to me, Daemon" he repeated. "It's fine, Daemon. He'll take care of me" she said to him in hopes to avoid an unnecessary fight. Laenor took her and rushed to their rooms while Daemon went to get help.
Princess Rhaelle's sudden labor held everyone from returning to the Keep. Her brothers, sisters, father and other family members worried for her. She had been in labor for nearly a day and a half now and nothing was happening. Fear over took everyone when the Maester spoke. "The babe will not come on, my lord, my king" he said to both Laenor and the king. "We've tried everything" he said. "I do not wish to resort to my last way" he added. "Which is?" Alicent asked. "Cutting the princess open to take out the babe. At the point we are now, only one could survive. And that is a bit hope. Neither one might survive" everyone's mind rushed to the day queen Aemma died.
Princess Rhaelle hanged by a thread. Will she survive or will she succumb to the same fate as her mother, and grandmothers?
