remembering that ALA presentation i listened to where a librarian from this tiny rural southern library talked about the reentry services module her library started for folks in the county jail. she thought of starting it because when the library budget was slashed in 2008 they kept it operating by using unpaid inmate labor, and for many of those people it was the first time they'd used the library. the reentry program ended up being mandatory for release for everyone in that county jail, which she framed as a victory for library outreach. it's important to remember that while public libraries are often good they aren't actually separate from everything else. they aren't socialist bastions, or not inherently; the professional values that i hold dear are not actually separate from my personal politics, and that is true for every one of my colleagues, in ways both good and profoundly damaging.

Sadie by Courtney Summers.
A little commentary on this book cause i felt too much when i finished it.
Tumblr media
Picked up this book randomly with no prior knowledge on what it's about, it just called to me i guess.
I just finished it about 20 minutes ago and my God i feel so stumped and overwhelmed, my heart feels heavy after reaching the end of that amazing and chilling story.
I admire Sadie for her love for her sister, her strength, her determination on bringing justice to her baby sister, and i also cant help but feel so utterly sad and devastated for her and what she had to live and go through.
It's that kind of book that when you finish, you just have to sit by yourself in silence and think about the whole story and the ending and just.. its just so raw and real and i felt for Sadie.
The story shows that people are never exactly what they seem or what they pretend to be in front of the people around them. Monsters live amongst us and hide in plain sight but we're too blinded by the façades they put up for us to recognize them.
"Anybody who listens to me, I end up loving them just a little."
Sadie, Courtney Summers.

Who are some of your favorite fandom creators?
That's probably the hardest question to answer! There are so many of them, and most continue to create and build up our corner of the fandom on a regular basis, so we couldn't possibly choose!
If you're looking for new things to read, please check out the Crescent Dreams Catelogue. We've got a ton of collections on Ao3, various genres, as well as monthly fan-recommended lists/requests. These collections/lists are constantly being updated, so there's always something new to read! And if you're looking for a particular trope/fic, send us another gemstone (ask), and we'll create a list for you!

Anyone else, when growing up, had a friend / friends that you know were exposed to the abuse in your home, no longer are in contact with them, and wonder how they are doing?
(TW: Physical abuse and domestic violence mention)
Cause we have a flashbulb memory, but when we were like 7 or something, we were in our room playing Pokemon figures and shit with our friend and there was extreme yelling and shit in the living room, and they were looking concerned and our 7 year old body (<- how you know we are 20 layers dissociated) just casually went "Oh just ignore them. As long as we stay in here theyll forget about us and they'll get over it. Its normal here." and then just went back to the Pokemon figure game we had turned the bedroom into
Cause in hindsight good god being the friend must have been unnerving how calm, almost snarky, and how heavily we disregard sounds of fighting

Man I love missing the last 15 minutes of online class because my internet decided to take a shit. Truly what could be better than this. Surely there's nothing i need to learn in the last 25% of class.

I love when my media fixations jump from something niche with 3 other fans ever to a Well Established Fandom. Every time feels like being a little orphaned urchin boy experiencing the luxuries of his new adoptive rich parent’s house for the first time
