I recently opened up to my mother about how disheartening it feels to study under an administration wherein my "president" lied about his college degree and yet has still managed to get away with it. She simply shook her head and dismissed me, asking; why should I be affected by it? Why am I acting discriminatory towards my fellow filipinos who haven't graduated college?
I then explained to her that I am not discriminating undergrad college students, I am simply pointing out the fact that he blatantly LIED to the public about his achievements, and yet the people still praised him for it. She dismissed me once more and told me to "shrug it off and that I shouldn't be affected by it. That every filipino has the right to prove themselves to be a good leader".
I didn't respond to this because I didnt wish to spur an argument between us.
But to that I say; bullshit. BULLSHIT.
Shrugt it off? Shrug it off??
This man LIED about his achievements. He LIED about his credentials and college degree. He LIED to the public about graduating in a prestigious college, and yet he still manages to get everything he's ever wanted?
BULLSHIT.
If a regular person lied about his college degree during a job interview, he'd be kicked out of the office.
If a regular student lied about his test scores to the teacher, he'd be considered a cheater.
If a lower class citizen evaded his taxes, he'd be filed an arrest warrant.
If a poor old man stole hundred pesos worth of canned goods to feed his family, he'd be imprisoned.
But then, here comes Marcos Jr. who has committed ALL of these crimes but he still manages to get away with it??? All the while earning the highest job position in the country??
BULLSHIT.
I am angry. I am frustrated. And I have every right to be. Why is it when someone with that much power and privilege does something immoral and illegal, people praise him for it. But when someone is of lesser class commits the exact same crime, they have to pay the consequences.
In no way am I discriminating against college dropouts or students who have no degree---what I am implying is that why do I get to sit back and TOLERATE all of his crimes while the country APPLAUDS him for it?
For a country that puts so much pressure on their children's academic achievements and future profession, you turn around and appoint a lying, incompetent, nepotism baby who LIED HIS WAY TO THE TOP AND DOESN'T GET TO PAY ANY OF HIS CONSEQUENCES??
How many more crimes does he have to commit so that we can simply shrug it off?
I am not discriminating against any of my fellow filipinos, I am angry at the selective system this fucked up country has. I am angry at the hypocrisy most adults are displaying.
I have all the right to angry. And so does every other hard-working filipino.

IN PHOTOS: Yesterday, progressive youth groups from different schools in Iloilo along with other organizations and representatives from different sectors gathered in front of the Iloilo Provincial Capitol to commemorate the 37th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Uprising. The program was then followed by a march in the streets of Iloilo City.
After almost four decades since the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr. was ousted, another Marcos is back in the highest seat of power in the country, directly following the tyrannical regime of Rodrigo Duterte.
The Marcos Jr. administration is using its power to continue the fascist legacy of both his direct predecessor Duterte and his father Marcos Sr., hence the declining socio-economic condition of Filipinos due to multiple issues such as the increasing inflation rate and oil price hikes.
Instead of uplifting the plight of the masses, the administration has only managed to worsen the situation by introducing policies that only benefit the ruling class. In addition, people’s campaigns like the call for a national minimum wage and the suspension of value added and excise taxes are disregarded, while legislators focus on the railroading of the Maharlika Wealth Fund, the implementation of Mandatory ROTC, and the prioritization of a constitutional reform, among others.
Not only are the rights of the various sectors of society endangered, but the nation’s history of struggle against the Marcos dictatorship is also being erased. Marcos Jr., with his cronies, is desperate in attempting to change the nation’s history and in covering up the crimes that his family committed against the Filipino people under his father’s tyrannical rule.
Anakbayan Panay stands with the people’s resistance against misinformation and historical distortion and against all other forms of oppression and state-sponsored terrorism. With the return of another Marcos in Malacañang comes the continuation of our struggle for genuine agrarian reform, indigenous peoples’ rights, student welfare and free education for all, climate justice, and Sahod Itaas, Presyo Ibaba.
We call on the Filipino youth to look back to the lessons we have acquired in the long course of our struggle and to keep the fight against tyranny and carry forward the people’s calls towards true national liberation and national democracy.
Makibaka, huwag matakot! Tuloy ang laban!

Washington, D.C.: People's State of the Nation Address 2022
March to reject the U.S.-Marcos II regime
Saturday, July 23 - 3:00 p.m.
Dupont Circle, Washington, D.C
Join the DMV Filipino community, community organizations, and allies on July 23 as we take to the streets for the People’s State of the Nation Address (PSONA)!
Every year, millions of people mobilize across the Philippines and around the world as the nation’s president gives the inaugural State of the Nation Address, spewing lies and empty promises about the true state of our nation.
This year, PSONA is especially important because it will be the first one in the return of the corrupt and dictatorial Marcos regime. Ferdinand Marcos Jr., also known as “Bong Bong”, is the son of the fascist dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr. who ruled the Philippines for 21 years from 1965-1986, extrajudicially killing and torturing thousands while stealing billions from the Filipino people. On top of these crimes, he also institutionalized forced migration and bowed to US imperialist interests to rob our country's wealth instead of serving our ordinary people, all of this committed during the Martial Law Era.
However, all of these crimes came to an end with the rise of the People’s Power Revolution, which ousted the corrupt Ferdinand Marcos. Now another one is needed, as this past May, Ferdinand "Bong Bong" Marcos Jr and Sara Duterte, the children of these fascist dictators and political dynasties who keep abusing the Philippines, stole the election through vote manipulation, corruption, historical revisionism and spreading misinformation about their families’ true legacies of murder and theft. Without a doubt, they will continue the legacies of their fathers unless we say no more.
We are calling you to join us in the streets as we REJECT the US-Marcos II Regime and call for genuine democracy in the Philippines. The march will start at 3pm in Dupont Circle on July 23rd. There will also be cultural performances, food, and unity as we fervently chant never again to Martial Law!
If you are interested in supporting our work, volunteering for a committee, or getting involved in general, please email [email protected] or DM us. We are also requesting donations to cover costs for materials, which you can send via venmo to @AnakbayanDC - any amount is appreciated.

Hey uhhh you are filipino? May I ask what happened with uhhh the presidency?
yes im filipino!! (ASEAN represent 💪🏽) and basically we had our elections a few days ago, and Bongbong Marcos—the son and supporter of Ferdinand Marcos, a former PH president who 1. ran a dictatorship 2. enforced martial law and kidnapped and tortured those who opposed him 3. embezzled so much money from Filipinos that we’re still in debt to this day and 4. literally had to be ousted with a revolt—WON by a possibly-rigged landslide.
and if that wasn’t bad enough his VP Sara Duterte is the daughter of our current president and is a supporter of his war-on-drugs that got millions killed.
People are mad about this for obvious reasons, but IMO the worst part is how many of the older Pinoys, who WERE LITERALLY THERE during the Marcos regime, fell for BBM’s social media propaganda campaign and were like “hmm yes this is such a good idea” it’s so bad

[OPINION] An open letter of grief from Loren Legarda’s son
I need you to know that she has no clue about the utter gravity and depravity of what she is doing. “So I am on their ticket. Does that make me a fascist?” she asked, both cluelessly and cynically. I was aghast. This is a woman who lived through Martial Law; she was once a journalist who taught me to value truth and justice. This is how vile, braindead, and reckless these people are. They literally have no idea what they are doing, the decades of violence and anguish they are unleashing. (bolded mine)
im crying like yeah.... yeah...... i know this is specifically about his mother who is running for senator alongside marcos/duterte but this resonated so hard w me. i am thankful to have a mostly leni family but my grandma and some of our family friends and a lot of other people are voting for marcos and it's so heartbreaking because sometimes they just won't listen and there's a good, good chance marcos really does win and like lorenzo legarda leviste said, they literally don't know what they are doing, or they refuse to know better. a few days ago i (and my family) tried to convince my grandmother not to vote for marcos from the thief angle, and the conversation just went something like this:
us: he's a thief, his bank accounts are even frozen
her: but if he becomes president those bank accounts will be unfrozen
us: yes and that's bad because he's a thief
her: but if his money is unfrozen he'll be able to use it to invest in our country
us: but he won't do that because he's a thief!!
and so on. and it's like this all the time with everyone else voting for him. they'll say respect my opinion, or they'll say relax, or they'll simply refuse to hear it and it's just. it feels so hopeless. i cannot, in fact, respect your opinion when you are voting and helping to put into power a candidate who was the son of a dictator and benefited from his family's documented theft of billions of pesos. his mother is not in jail and currently has seven counts of graft against her. they have billions of unpaid estate taxes. he and his family actively deny the countless documented human rights violations under martial law and continue to tout it as our golden age, despite the staggering debt his father accumulated and the turmoil we went through in the consequent years just trying to pay it back. he is, and i repeat, the son of a fucking dictator. as in the dictator we ousted. 50 years ago today.
okay i went really off-tangent sorry but i get heated talking about this. anyways, giving my best to lorenzo legarda leviste; it couldn't have been easy accepting that your mother would be wilfully complicit in the re-election of another marcos. im sorry and i hope she reconsiders what she's doing

MANILA, May 10 (UPI) -- Thirty-six years after his dictator father was ousted by a popular uprising, Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is poised to become the next president of the Philippines in a stunning return to power for one of the most infamous political dynasties in recent history.
With almost 98% of precincts reporting in an unofficial count by the Philippines Commission on Elections, Marcos Jr. had 31 million votes, accounting for 58.7% of the total. His closest competitor, Vice President Leni Robredo, received 14.7 million votes, or 28% of the votes counted.
The margin of victory was the largest by far since the elder Marcos was driven into exile in 1986 by the People Power uprising, with no candidate winning an outright majority of votes in a presidential election since. Current strongman President Rodrigo Duterte -- whose daughter Sara was elected vice president in a separate race -- won with 39% of the vote in 2016.
Marcos Jr. addressed the nation in a Facebook livestream late Monday, after initial results showed an enormous lead.
"Many are already saying that it's over, but it's not really over yet, so let's wait until it's very clear and the counting will be 100 percent," Marcos Jr., widely known as Bongbong, said.
"But even before the count is over, my gratitude to all of you cannot wait -- my gratitude to all who helped, to all who joined in our struggle, for your sacrifice, for your work and for what you have given us," he said.
Robredo, a former human rights lawyer who saw a spirited grass-roots movement emerge around the later stages of her campaign, reached out to her supporters on Tuesday morning and urged them to carry on efforts to promote democracy and root out corruption in Philippine politics.
"We have a beginning that has never been witnessed in the entire history of the country," she said on her own Facebook video. "A campaign led by the people, a movement formed not only to dismantle the old and rotten system but to forge real and positive change.
"We are not done yet. We are just getting started," she added.
Reports of voting irregularities and widespread delays due to machine malfunctions at polling stations around the country had some Robredo supporters staging protests outside election commission headquarters in Manila on Tuesday, according to multiple social media accounts.
In a hearing on Tuesday, the Commission on Elections rejected appeals to disqualify Marcos Jr. from the presidency due to a 1995 conviction on tax evasion charges, news site Rappler reported.
Human rights group Karapatan also called on citizens to reject the tandem of Marcos Jr. and Sara Duterte over the authoritarian rule of both candidates' parents and the "countless historical lies and disinformation" that marked their campaigns.
Robredo, however, asked her supporters to accept the results as the will of the voters.
"Although there are still questions about this election that need to be addressed, the voice of the people is becoming clearer," she said. "We need to listen to this voice, because ultimately, we share only one country."

All I Well As 7-Day Prayer Rally Ends
Screenshot The 7-day prayer rally orchestrated by Pastor Apollo Quiboloy and Rodrigo Duterte’s supporters concluded without achieving its intended goal of inciting an EDSA people power movement reminiscent of the ousting of Ferdinand E. Marcos.  Contrary to its spiritual guise, the rally primarily served as a platform to advocate for the protection of Quiboloy and Duterte while condemning…

MAY SAYSAY ANG TUNAY NA KASAYSAYAN
Tumblr media
Filipino activists and organizations from various sectors staged a protest at the EDSA People Power Monument in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines, commemorating the 37th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution, the peaceful uprising that overthrew the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr., father of the current Philippine president, on February 25, 2023.
The early Saturday morning was led by representatives from the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) along with Quezon City local government officials, Mayor Joy Belmonte, and the Armed Forces of the Philippines through flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremonies with its commemorating theme “Pagkakaisa Tungo sa Kapayapaan at Pagbangon”. They were later joined by the Spirit of EDSA Foundation (SOEF), church organizations, and labor groups with performances and fists as they recalled the injustices and how the revolution unfolded toppling its dictator out of power.
As of October 08, 2022, the first 100 days of Marcos Jr in the presidency, 81 human rights violations were recorded by the Student Christian Movement of the Philippines (SCMP). The same youth movement took participation in the First and Second EDSA People Power Revolution and was made illegal under Martial Law along Kabataang Makabayan.
Tumblr media
And 37 years after the historical bloodless revolution, the Marcoses have returned to power.
Last election, the battle of pink and red has been Marcos Jr. campaign and its infamous “unity” seemed to oppose by many as how the present economic crisis unfolds. Is it really an age of prosperity?
Hence, the data shows that the state of human rights violations and distortion of the Philippine economic depression during Marcos Sr, according to De Dios et al. (2021), the human cost and institutional damage it made were no complete economic justification of the social costs of its regime without mentioning social disorder and the death toll and liberty. The regime's crackdown on peaceful and armed impedance was marked by cruelty and torture: 3,257 individuals were killed under barbaric circumstances by the military, and 737 were victims of forced "disappearances". Some 35,000 cases of torture have been recorded, and 70,000 individuals have been apprehended, most without a warrant.
Tumblr media
As of this writing, the Sandiganbayan Fifth Division, on February 22, 2023, dismissed the ill-gotten wealth case of Marcos Sr. vs its cronies due to lack of evidence through dummy corporations. The Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) estimated the Marcoses' wealth in the totality of $5 billion to $10 billion, as recognized by the Guinness World of Record to be the “greatest robbery of government.”
Tumblr media
“Dapat laging gunitain ito upang maalala ang nangyari noong 1986,” Sis. Pilar Quemeda of Religious of the Good Shepherd said.
It is those militant and political activists’ nuns' unique positioning in the revolution that turned the tables of ousting a dictator possible---they invoked moral power in critical situations. Known to be as “Bantayog Sisters”, the Global Sisters Report stated that nine religious sisters' names were from various parishes and backgrounds. Four of the sisters, known as the "Cassandra martyrs," all members of the Religious of the Good Shepherd, died in a shipwreck in 1983. While the other five sisters kept their jobs in various ministries following the political change, they died of natural causes.
Tumblr media
As per Social Weather System (SWS) survey conducted just before the revolution, six out of 10 Filipinos still believe that the EDSA spirit exists after more than three decades of state upheaval.
Tumblr media
Youths today continues to respond to the worsening social, political, and economic crisis. Therefore, it is inevitable that the number of young militants who fight against fascism and exploitation will increase. They are to reinforce the call from the mass campaign. They are united in the sectoral fight against farmers, laborers, workers, students, women, LGBTQ+, and all oppressed sectors of society, and heeds to the call, “Mula sa Masa, Tungo sa Masa!”
Their very goal is to unite all youths to make truths tangible and heard, organize, and mobilize to fight for our rights to land, work, education, justice, livelihood, and other social services.
Tumblr media
The commemoration of martial law and the spirit of EDSA will always not be through placards or a paper archive. It is always within the people remembering the horrors and not being blinded by those in power. Debt, deprivation, and dictatorial spoils became a real hallmark of the Marcoses in our history. As difficult and agonizing as that time was, it would turn out to be a greater tragedy if its experiences and hardships were abandoned by the future generation unaware of their impending doom to repeat past mistakes.
Tumblr media
After all, it is within us, autopsying our democracy’s wounds, as to what Karl Patrick (Co-Founder of Project Gunita) said.

‘Second father, personal friend’: How Fidel V. Ramos is remembered
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Several personalities paid tribute to the late president Fidel Ramos, who died due to COVID-19 complications on Sunday, July 31.  President Ferdinand Marcos Jr, the nephew of Ramos, called for prayers for his uncle. “Our family shares the Filipino people’s grief on this sad day. We did not only lose a good leader but also a member of the family,” Marcos said. “I call on all Filipinos to pray for the eternal repose of Mr. Ramos. The legacy of his presidency will always be cherished and will be forever enshrined in the hearts of our grateful nation,” he added. Rafael Alunan III, former tourism secretary of the Ramos administration, said he considers the latte president his “second father.” “I’ve been sucking it in from the time I learned the sad news, staring blankly at the screen, waiting for the family to officially announce his journey to the afterlife. Regarded him as my second father as many of my brothers in uniform did,” Alunan said in a Facebook post.  “The time will come when my thoughts will stream in rapid fashion and convert into words that, nonetheless, I fear will never be articulate enough to express profound gratitude for all that he did for ‘Duty, Honor, Country.’ May the Force welcome you Home, Sir!” he added.  Former president Rodrigo Duterte also expressed his condolences to the family of Ramos.  “I am one with his wife, Ming, his family, his friends, and the entire Filipino people mourning the death of a great statesman, mentor, and friend. As we grieve for his loss, let us honor his legacy of service and his significant contributions to the country,” Duterte wrote.  Meanwhile, former vice president Leni Robredo reposted a photo of her and her family with Ramos in 1994 during one of Ramos’ visits to Naga.  “Arrived Manila with the sad news of FVR’s passing. Our family mourns his death and remembers what his presidency meant in the post-dictatorship presidency,” Robredo said, adding that the late president has become a personal friend and a supporter in during the 2022 elections. In a tweet, former Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV said Ramos is the best Philippine president.   “He brokered peace, modernized the economy, reformed government systems, professionalized the bureaucracy & reintroduced our country into the global community,” Trillanes said.  “Being a former soldier, FVR had a tireless but efficient and disciplined work ethic. He was a brilliant strategist and a very effective crisis manager. Finally, he had a commanding presence; always snappily dressed and very dignified in demeanor as president,” he added.  Journalists also shared how Ramos dealt with the media during his presidency.  “I forgot what story I was covering, but we were outside Crame. A car was making a turn to enter the gate when it stopped, and a head stuck out. It was Fidel Ramos who readily answered questions. He had his share of critical reports but never resented the press. RIP Sir,” journalist Barnaby Lo wrote.  Journalist Inday Espina Verona, editor-in-chief of the Philippines Graphic during Ramos’ presidency, revealed in a tweet that Ramos liked to invite him for inside stories of news headlines.  “The only problem with FVR was, that he would chat for hours but only allow the use of very few quotes,” Espina said.  Despite this, Espina said, “the combination of razor-sharp mind and laid back manner made for really interesting times.” During late president Ferdinand Marcos Sr’s rule in the 70s and 80s, Ramos headed the Philippine Constabulary.  He led the Philippine National Police during the Martial Law from 1972 to 1986.  During the 1986 People Power Revolution, Ramos became one of the key figures that ousted Marcos Sr.  Before being elected president in 1992, Ramos served as Defense secretary from 1988 until 1991. MANILA (Reuters) - Ferdinand Marcos Jr has maintained his wide lead in the Philippines presidential election race in a new survey released on Monday, but some political observers say the game may not be over for closest rival Leni Robredo.
Support for Marcos, the son and namesake of the ousted dictator who ruled the Philippines for two decades, remained at 56% ahead of next week's ballot, while Robredo, the incumbent vice president, slipped to 23% from 24% a month ago in the Pulse Asia surveys.
Multi world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao and Manila mayor Francisco Domagoso had 7% and 4% support respectively. The election takes place on May 9.

The Pulse Asia survey of 2,400 people was conducted between April 16 to 21, which political analyst Temario Rivera said may not have registered the late flurry of support for Robredo, who has drawn crowds of tens of thousands of people in rallies in recent days.
"We might be looking at a situation when surveys cannot fully capture what is actually happening on the ground," Rivera said.
That includes a series of endorsements or late switches of allegiance in favour of Robredo, 57, from mayors, candidates, governors and politicians in the past few weeks, he said.
Marcos, 64, has said he would not let his strong showing in polls distract him from work needed to be done to ensure victory.
The poll released on Monday showed his running mate, Sara Duterte-Carpio, daughter of incumbent leader Rodrigo Duterte, still the favourite to become vice president, a post elected separately to the president.
Duterte, whose six-year term ends late next month, has not endorsed a presidential candidate, but his political party is backing Marcos.
More than 67 million Filipinos have registered to vote in the elections, which historically have a high turnout.
