So I’ll be the first to admit this is a weird one. I wanted to experiment with combining separate books into one large omnibus. The Wicked Years Series (which was the inspiration for the musical Wicked) is so full of weird things I figured it would be fitting to combine them into one thicc volume. It’s now up for sale in my shop at the link in my bio.
All four Wicked Years books (Wicked, Son of a Witch, A Lion Among Men, Out of Oz) were bound together in black hand dyed sienna leather with green foiled page edges and green vinyl tooling. Normally I would have charged more for this thicc boy but the green foil page edging is a little splotchy in some parts because it was impossible to press the pages tight enough for the edging process.

A concept playbill and Gershwin Theater poster I made for a hypothetical Son of a Witch musical in honor of Pride month ;)
My take on a SOAW musical outline under the cut:
My idea for a SOAW musical is that it would take place eighteen years after Elphaba and Fiyero leave Oz and settle down in Ix, Ev or Fliaan. Liir would be the new protagonist and longs to be independent after being shielded away from the rest of the world by his parents. Like Elphaba, he inherits some of powers, but also has the ability to look into the past based on his location. When his best friend Nor is kidnapped and taken to Oz (Nor wouldn’t be related to him in this hypothetical musical) He escapes The Badlands and travels to Oz to find her. Once there he meets with Glinda for help, who has since taken over Oz and is in disbelief to learn that Elphaba left behind a son. However she’s later usurped by Sheltergod Thropp, Elphaba’s younger brother who seeks to abolish Animals from Oz just like the Wizard did. Liir joins the Loyal Oz Army and meets Trism who later becomes his accomplice and lover in taking down Shell, rescuing his friend and possibly all of Oz. With the help of Trism, Candle, and his Animal companion Iskinaary, he seeks to finish what his mother started.
I’m thinking much like the Wicked musical, this would adapt some parts from the book but would also include some changes. Though this version could be a bit darker and mature while still keeping the light heartedness Wicked has. Liir would have his “Defying Gravity” moment after he escapes the army and goes rogue, then towards the end he declares himself as the son of the witch of the west.
Idina Menzel, Kristen Chenoweth and Norbert Leo Butz would reprise their roles as Elphaba, Glinda, and Fiyero (and they’d probably be replaced with actors who have previously played the characters every season) Stephen Schwartz, Joe Mantello, and Winnie Holzman would come back to create the show with Susan Hilferty for costume design.
This will probably never happen but it was fun to come up with lol xD

if I had a nickel for every time seth green played the nice boyfriend of the bookish, nerdy girl who fights supernatural beings with her group of friends (called the scooby gang) led by her pretty but badass best friend (played by sarah michelle gellar) before she eventually came out as a lesbian, I'd have two nickels.

I THINK I FINALLY FOUND OUT WHERE LIIR’S NAME COMES FROM!
A very long while ago, someone asked about the origins of Liir’s name. I came up with this convoluted, nonsensical answer that probably wasn’t anywhere near spot on but at least reasonable in my eyes.
Or so I thought...
I bring to you: Tales Told in Oz. A collection of very short lore stories written by Maguire published by Madras Press. They’re mini tales about Oz that read kind of like fairytales for kids. They weren’t very popular and aren’t available in major retail stores so if you want one, you’ll have to go to the press website and hope that they still have some available. I was lucky lol;;
Here’s a snippet about Lurline in the chapter Skellybones in Fir-Cloak, A Tale From The Lurline Cycle:
“Scholars believe there have been several dozen tales in which Lurline or, in Old Ozish, Liirlina consorted with various men she had just created in order to gestate aspects and attributes of the world.”
So Liir’s name comes from Lurline’s original name in Ozish, Liirlina (Ozish being the language that those in Oz speak instead of English from my understanding) Considering Liir was born and raised in a monastery, it makes sense he would have a religious name given to him by the Maunts. My interpretation or headcanon if you will, is that Liir’s name was originally a girl’s name that eventually became a male name like Ashley, Dana, Hilary, Lauren, Shelby, etc...  (or if we want to really break gender norms, his name can something unisex akin to the names of Logan, Riley or Parker) Or it can be a name that like with most cultures has different variations depending on the language. For example the name Joseph can be translated to Yousef, Jose,  Yusef, so on and so forth.
Or I could be going crazy again because I’m paranoid and lonely all the time and using my baby boy as a way to cope ; u ;

Hi! Sorry if I'm being a bother, but I just finished Son of a Witch and Out of Oz, and I noticed that Liir only refers to Candle as his 'wife' (the family tree in the beginning of the book says otherwise), but he's always very creative with his nicknames for Trism. You're kind of the expert on these things, and I was wondering if you noticed them too.
Oh this isn't any trouble at all! I'm actually happy to see a new person get interested in Liir/Trism!
Anyway, I DID notice that Liir's way of referring to Trism is much more colorful compared to Candle! Though NGL, I haven't read the books in a hot minute 'cause Uni is kicking my ass, so my recollection of details may be hazy, but I'm gonna tell you anyway HAHAHAHAHA
I think Liir refers to Candle as his "wife" because he feels devotion towards her. As the mother of his child, and the first person to care for him when he became an adult, she's played a very big role in his life. He calls her his wife because she's basically the only person he knew who's willing to put up with him and hasn't abandoned him.
Throughout his youth, Liir has struggled with his loneliness and despairs the fact that "Nobody will ever come looking for him". When Candle arrives, he's no longer alone and he finally has someone waiting for him whenever he goes somewhere.
On the other hand, Liir is much more creative and flowery with his thoughts about Trism, because he's completely and utterly besotted. Unlike his feelings for Candle, Liir's feelings for Trism are brought by attraction, not necessarily devotion.
I mean, if you read the books, Liir goes to great lengths to reminisce about Trism's looks. From his blonde hair to his apparently very nice ass (I still think it's hilarious Maguire added this detail), Liir spends an inordinate amount of time admiring Trism's appearance.
Not only that, bur Trism also plays a very impactful role in Liir's life. While Candle may have given Liir the domestic life he always wanted and spent roughly 2 decades with him, Trism is the one who is present during the turning points in Liir's life, not Candle. So it makes sense that Trism takes a lot of space in Liir's head.
Trism was the one who told Liir how to enter the military. He helped him complete his plans. Finally, when liir had to pick sides during the climax of his life, it was Trism who told him to "make his own choices for his own reasons". Basically confronting him head-on with his biggest flaws, his lack of initiative and self-identity.
Unlike Candle who is mainly a comfy person Liir can go home to, Trism is the one pushing him to take action throughout his life. They may not have spent that much time together, but every encounter they have sends their lives spiraling into a completely different direction. That's why I think Trism takes so much real-estate in Liir's mind.
Those are my thoughts anyway. Glad you decided to ask me! I'm flattered you think I'm an expert on this, but I'm really not TBH. I'm just a zoomer who's completely in love with the relationship between a neurotic witch boy and his sexy but really full of himself soldier BF.
I hope I gave a satisfactory answer, and feel free to give your own two cents! Don't worry about being a bother too! Talking about Liir/Trism is a stress-reliever for me!

I want to think Heavy is completely fine with having to readjust to a new unit system, he just eyeballs most practical things anyways by holding them up and mumbling about how they approximately weigh like a chicken or his kettle bell etc. He's always been living in practical ignorant bliss.

Medic has a peer reviewed meltdown the first time he realises there's no uniformity in "a cup of ____" because every object has different densities. He's diligent about memorising the conversion rates for ounces, pounds, the most common things etc., and recovers ok. He goes through the same stages of grief rage when he finds out about distances and lengths.

One time, a friend asked me if I actually knew how much a tablespoon of flour was in gramms to convince me that metric users also make use of volume based units without thinking about them. But little did she know a heaped spoonful of 405 flour is about 15g and a level tablespoon is 10g.
