galaxy-brained mlc take of the day: mlc is wuxia, yes and maybeee not exactly? it very much is a wuxia aesthetically, but it's actually - conceptually - xianxia story in the core. (this is different from suggesting that it is a xianxia show.) however xianxia can (or should) be considered a subgenre of wuxia, not its own separate distinct genre despite the idea of 仙 xian being fundamentally at odds with the idea of 侠 xia, because they both stem from the same belief. (as seen in mlc, it works with the conventions of traditional wuxia aka li xiangyi the sigu sect leader, to get to the real bits of xianxia concept aka li lianhua's story.) so, mlc is wuxia through and through, inside out. send tweet 🫡👍

ok wait I can explain
so, this must be premised on the understanding that any discussion of "仙 xian/deities" in this context is only as its abstract idea of living a life distanced, detached from worldly, human woes instead of the possibility of immortality existing in mlcverse. (if you think about the deities in xianxia stories being basically human beings who have cultivated themselves into immortality.)
this is the explanation of xianxia as a wuxia subgenre (古仙武侠) in the baidu article of wuxia genre:
武侠中的侠,是脱胎于墨家“以天下为己任”的使命感;而仙侠的侠,通常是传达着“能力越大,责任也就越大”的朴素精神。侠乃入世,仙为出世,道教阴阳的无情大道(无情指寻求自我的不断体悟,以达精神的成仙,非没有感情之意)与武侠江湖的有情众生,即是矛盾也是循环,象征着太极之道,这也就是为何古仙武侠也属于正统仙侠流派的原因。
rough tl:
the xia of wuxia is born from the mohist ideal of bearing a sense of responsibility for the world
while the xia in xianxia focuses on the idea of "with great power comes great responsibility"
the idea of 侠 xia is secular. the idea of 仙 xian is beyond the secular - it is to pursue a life of suppressing/taming your own emotions (it does not mean to be completely removed of the ability to feel. it's a pursuit of self-realisation that makes one attain the status of a "deity" spiritually.) 仙 xian is then inherently at odds with wuxia jianghu's deep empathy and connection with the secular world, but it's also connected back to it. this is why 古仙武侠 is considered to be a part of the wuxia genre.
the relationship between xian and xia is conflicting because the former is all about distancing yourself from worldly issues while the latter necessitates an active effort to do something about them.
but it also means that both wuxia and xianxia acknowledge this weight of human emotions and connection to the world. it's just their respective responses and the outcomes they want that they differ in. what is the ideal person? wuxia says it's to be someone who can propagate and execute the ideal of doing something about this weight of your connection to the world, while xianxia says it's to learn to be at peace with that connection, and it's ok to not do anything about it actually - which might even be harder than trying to do something. (and focusing on your own cultivation can be a good thing for the world, in fact.)
with this, I hope it sounds less absurd that I'm connecting mlc's story to the concept of xianxia. lxy's life was a traditional wuxia archetype. (I've already harped on enough about how he fits into the quintessential mohist model of a xia leader.) what happens after, aka his journey as li lianhua, is the real story of mlc. it's a breakdown of that quintessential wuxia hero. it is a story in which the main conflict faced by the protagonist is to struggle with all the worldly woes including his own past and the cases' victims, in defense of the serenity he has found in the past 9 years. it is a natural battle to fight for someone such as llh because as long as you're still human, you will face the implications of human connections and the innate feeling of compassion and urge to do something about it (part of this, I guess, manifests physically in bicha breaking him down and the resistance to cure).
and relating that to an excerpt from an article discussing xianxia in relation to wuxia:
武侠剧的精神内核也是仙侠剧的精神内核,而“仙”实际上是实现新形式的“侠”的手段,由此扩展了“侠”的深度和其实施的时空范围。武侠之中的侠义精神,可以强调其自在,更强调其是自为的,前者是需要逐渐成长和觉醒的。然而对于高于人的仙而言,作为上位者的“侠”之精神,则应该是内在自觉且自为的。
rough tl:
the spirit of wuxia dramas should also be the spirit of xianxia dramas. xian should in fact be another way to bring out and explore the idea of xia.
the spirit of xia in wuxia can be an emphasis on the spirit of freedom, and even more so, the idea of agency and autonomy. the former is gained through growth and awareness. but for xian aka people who occupy a realm above the people on the ground, the xia spirit they embody should manifest in their inner awakening and agency.
it goes without saying that nobody is a deity in this show, and never will be. only in ep 40.5 it came so close to possessing that otherworldly, surreal edge, but that's all to it. deities do not exist in the mlcverse.
but but. it's interesting to point out in the ep 3 flashback when lxy walked through town in the aftermath of the sigu sect vs jym battle, commoners were heard describing it as 神仙打架 百姓遭殃 when immortals fight, commoners suffer. of course they didn't mean it literally but figuratively, that those people of wulin jianghu are high above, detached from the people on the ground. which is. contradictory to the idea of 侠 xia to begin with. so... it could even be interpreted that li lianhua living the spiritually "immortal" life embodied the xia spirit even more deeply than he did as li xiangyi the sigu sect leader, the "immortal" in the eyes of the commoners. actual immortals do not have any real attachment to the people, but a cultivated "immortal" does and is destined to feel and learn to deal with it over and over like llh did. it all comes back in a circle indeed.

Hi everyone,
I found this interesting ven diagram that shows the differences and similarities between high masking autism and avoidant personality disorder. There is more overlap than I thought. The link to the source will be below if anyone is interested.

love it how, when I talk about the fact that autism is still stigmatised, people in the notes assume that autism is my only disorder. “if you think autism is stigmatised try being psychotic” bitch I am both. and one of those things being stigmatised does not mean the other one isn’t. trust me there is not a limit on the amount of stigma floating around

just thinking about that time i had a neuropsychological evaluation where i was like “yeah my body hurts all the time and i’m always so tired, i think there’s something wrong with me” and in my results the examiner was like “patient ascribes, often inaccurately, attributes/manifestations of mental distress to physical ailments, refusing to acknowledge their psychological origins” basically saying that i was blaming my symptoms of depression on some made-up, ambiguous physical illness or disorder and that when i said that something was wrong with me, physically, i was basically “in denial” that i was mentally ill (despite the fact that i was 100% certain and up-front that i was) and that i was merely describing anxiety and depression. and then i got diagnosed with GERD a few months later (hence feeling sick all the time) and fibromyalgia a year later lol. anyway im a cane user now. ✌️ why don’t you tell me again how my symptoms are just mental illness <3

According to multiple doctors, I am not autistic. In fact, I have ADHD that just looks a hell of a lot like autism. My favorite way of explaining this is my ADHD is cosplaying as autism.

I will talk about this for a second cause I had night thoughts and all.
It's really annoying when people will pick this One behaviour and stereotype it on the whole group with condition/disorder. Especially it sucks when they purposufelly take the most offensive exaggerated version. It double sucks when in order to force a person into stereotype, literally everything else about their personality is dropped, their condition/disorder to be the only thing that is left for them. Yeah I am talking with NPD context.
Someone who doesn't have NPD acts like this? They will be armchair diagnosed that they have it. Someone who has NPD but doesn't act like this? Their existence is denied.
NPD in it's core is about starved and fragile ego. PwNPD struggle to sustain their own self-esteem, so they depend of external sources. This is why they seek attention and validation. And any even the smallest criticsm that wouldn't have done anything to a person with a stable ego, crushes a person with NPD.
Imagine an animal. You push them and they feel as if they are bleeding to death. Some will hiss and bite to defend themselves while they are in such vulnerable position, but some will run away, hide or pretend dead.
So. Here is three people with NPD.
One is outgoing and being afraid of painful emptiness, they put themselves in a center of attention to receive some positive feedback to their entertaining behaviour. The other is closed off/anxious, prefering to keep the passively pleasant attitude in order to avoid any possible critisicm as much as possible. The last one feeling constantly on edge choses the people pleasing behaviour, hoping their acts of service will guarantee more stable and safe position for them.
All three come from the same insecure and bruised source. All three deal with it differently. And only one of them will be chosen to have NPD.

idk if anyone else does this but i love this thing i do that i'm now calling "autistic food math" where i take the childhood trick of eating the vegetables first to get them out of the way to its logical extreme, wherein i calculate the exact order to eat what's on my plate in order to return maximum sensory enjoyment and minimize sensory overload
example: i ordered sushi, which is one of my favorite foods, and i love opening the container and counting up how many i have of each roll so i can make a plan for the order i'll use to alternate them, and i need to take into account what's in each roll and what it's topped with to make sure i don't have too many similar flavors next to each other, or if one is spicier than others it can't go last or the spice will linger too long and it'll hurt, and usually i'll do it in order from least favorite to most favorite (even though i love all of them or i wouldn't have ordered them lmao) so my last bite is always the best one
this power can also be used for evil when i'm in a pattern of disordered eating, but at its best it's like beta testing the meal before i actually eat it sbsjskakssk

once again thinking about how the neurodivergent understanding of Happy Feet makes the movie 10x better and the fact that most people are neurotypical and just wouldn't get it is why the movie is so slept on (seriously it's so good). mumble is autistic coded and the whole movie begins to make sense when you consider the in depth implications of that.
oh and also reminder that happy feet was originally made for adults which explains a lot of the weirder, venereal moments

This has been on my mind for weeks and I talked to my therapist about it today and told my girlfriend about it too so now it's time for me to update the gay people in my phone: I may have schizotypal personality disorder
#this is like the equivalent of telling the bees to me#rambling#like ive been thinking about ever since i learned that autism shares a lot of similarities with schizophrenia and looked into that#and then learned about negative/cognitive symptoms and realized i related a lot to them#and then i learned more about schizotypal personality disorder and it was fuckin scary how much i related to it#what with the magical thinking and the severe social anxiety that doesnt go away when i get to know someone#and the ideas of reference and the eccentricity and the communication difficulties and the strange thought patterns#and then i specifically learned about avolition as a negative symptom which describes the exact thing thats ruining my life rn#and. i was scared to talk to my therapist about it bc i was worried it could be used against me somehow#but it was good to talk it out with her and get some additional perspective on whats going on in my brain#and if it means i could maybe possibly work on fixing the avolition and the social anxiety (my two biggest issues for years)#then it would be 100% worth it tbh. and its also kind of helpful to have some sort of framework to understand whats happening in my brain#funnily enough when i told my girlfriend (who was previously mis?diagnosed with schizophrenia and considering autism)#about it she related a lot too. so i guess we'll see how that goes#its. crazy how much of an overlap there is between schizospec orders and autism#i feel like i might should write up a post going into detail about different schizospec disorders to raise awareness#bc like. it is so much more than just hallucinations and delusions#in fact its not even required to have both of those for any schizospec disorder. some only require one and others dont require either#there is so much to the schizophrenic spectrum that i was unaware of and I'm sure that's probably true of other people too

Thinking to myself “man it’s a good thing there nine mechanisms to project my disabilities onto, wouldn’t want people to think I’m headcanoning them to have an unrealistic amount of issues.” When it’s like, I have all these issues! And some people have way more comorbidities than me!
