Ok how would the overwatch cast react to y/n saying on a mission moments before it downpours “ hmmm.” ( insert sniffing noise ) “ it smells like it’s gonna rain. We could probably go inside or seek some type of shelter.” And then forgetting that they grew up in the Midwest, as I am convinced that the people who can smell rain are mutants.

Rainy weather

First of all, apologies for answering this so late. I admit I wasn’t sure about these headcanons at first, but after looking at characters I write for – I thought that I can make something fun out of this. And a little fun fact – I think I might be one of those people who can smell rain lol. Anyway enjoy! <3

Genji Shimada

☁ Genji can't really smell rain since almost all the time he has his mask on

☁ He doesn't believe you at first, but after going to a shelter and sees that it starts to rain, he apologizes that he didn't believe you

☁ You play it off jokingly, because you can tell he's really serious about the apology and explain that everything is fine

Cole Cassidy

☁ I believe Cole is also the person who can smell that the rain is coming, he may even starts smelling the air before you do

☁ But as soon as he hears you sniff the air too, he looks up at you surprised

☁ He does not argue when you say it's time to look for shelter

☁ Once everyone is safe in the shelter, Cole will ask about it and admit you surprised him, because he did not expect for you to be also able to smell rain

Ramattra

☁ Ramattra obviously can't smell rain, but his sensors can inform him that there's a change in the air

☁ He will be surprised when he sees you sniff and says it's going to rain

☁ He knows how to kill and hurt humans, but he does not know much beyond that

☁ After finding a shelter, he asks how does human smell that and how common is it for humans be able to smell things like that

Niran Pruksamanee

☁ Niran is a plant mom, so he's almost always aware of the weather

☁ He may not be to smell the rain, but will most likely be aware before mission that it might rain

☁ Niran is confused by your conclusion, just by a few a small quick sniffs

☁ He asks if you're sure and when your answer is positive, he does does not plan on arguing and looks for shelter with you

Genji:

Out of nowhere, you started to wake up with Soba standing over your pillow

“No! Guys, come here!” you called, a bit frantic.

Its like the two sensed your panic, instantly racing to you and becoming the side of german shepherds. The two wrapped around you, rubbing their cheeks on your sides

At first you thought Hanzo was home, but when you called he let out a loud, angry huff. “That’s where they are? Outrageous. I’m on my way home!” he had said.

You knew though something was up-the intensity in their gaze, the way they couldn’t look away from you...

“What’s up with you, guys?” you’d asked, and rubbed their snouts.

They just snorted, and when you finally went and sat they curled up on your lap.

It wasn’t for another two months almost before you found out you were pregnant- and suddenly, the noodles continuously odd and rather nerve-wracking behavior made sense

“They are protecting our family,” Hanzo had said softly, putting a hand over your stomach in awe. “Thank you....noodles,” he’d said.

I thought I would've gotten to this sooner, but hello, it is finally here!

CASSIDY

He panicked when you mentioned you were going into labour, words fumbling out his mouth in incoherent sentences that made you question whether or not he was okay.

He was there with you the entire time you were giving birth, holding your hand, moving the stuck hair from your face, wiping the sweat off of your forehead.

He never once let go of you, wanting nothing more than to soothe you throughout the entire process.

When the moment arrived, a screaming and crying baby in the nurses hands, Cassidy immediately felt the relief run through him.

“I am proud of you, honey.”

“You’re okay. Everything is fine.”

When the nurses eventually handed the small infant over to you, he witnessed your features getting soft, tears pricking your eyes once more. They weren’t painful tears, but rather tears of love.

The baby continued to cry for a minute or two longer as the conversation around the room continued.

He was quick on his feet to get you over to medbay, hand never leaving yours as he helped you settle onto the bed.

The entire time he would whisper to you, sweet little words and praises to flood your mind and to take it off of the pain you were experiencing.

“Stay calm, sweetheart.”

“My love… You are doing amazingly.”

He would keep his fingers laced with yours all throughout the birth of your child.

The moment that new life was brought into the world, your hand squeezed your partners hand tightly, the relief flooding through your body.

His heart fluttered as the nurses brought the newborn over to you and him.

Every emotion was heightened when he saw you hold the small bundle and when you offered for him to hold the baby, his eyes widened.

His hands were gentle as he took the bundle to his chest, gently rocking his arms.

He was almost a natural, and when the cries calmed down, he chuckled.

Hanzo saw the pride within your face as you turned to look at him. The love for you and his child was overflowing.

The archer had another reason to keep fighting. To keep living.

REAPER

Everything changed rather quickly the moment you became pregnant.

The cold demeanour was suddenly calm and caring, something of which was what you needed during the pregnancy.

When labour came around and pain was surging, Reyes moved fast, carrying you to the medbay.

He was worried and rightly so as you cried out in pain.

Reyes kept his hand on your forehead, soothing what pained emotions you were receiving and letting out.

Your body was on fire for your partner did what he could to make sure you were pain-free as possible.

“Stay calm, You’re doing good.”

“Almost there, don’t worry, you’re doing well.”

He listened to your cries and it pained him, but the moment that it fell silent and another cry was heard, Reyes felt warm.

His heart felt bigger as he watched you hold your newborn baby.

Tears spilled from your eyes, Reyes moved his hand to cup your cheek, thumb caressing the warm and damp flesh.

When you held out your newborn to your partner, he hesitated, but his arms opened up and accepted the small bundle of newborn joy.

His eyes softened and he smiled, a genuine smile that made your own heart flutter with joy.

He listens for a moment as you make alarmed noises, trying to discern what exactly is going on.

After turning over to flip on the light, he glances over at your sleeping form thrashing around with your brow furrowed in terror.

"N-no... get a...away f-from me..." Cassidy hears you say clearly, getting more worried by the second.

As he begins to reach over to try and rouse you from your slumber, the volume of your voice grows from a to an earsplitting shriek.

"Whoa, hey, hey, hey! Jus' h-hold on a darn second here!" He says as he tries to block your attacks by grabbing your hands.

"No! NO! Let me out!" You wail as tears start streaming down your cheeks.

"Darlin', it's a dream, you gotta wake up! I'm here, just open your eyes!"

Debating between forcing you to wake up and just continuing to reassure you and talk you down from the fear, he decides that the latter is probably going to be the safest for both of you.

After a several minutes long struggle, you slowly stop trying to fight Cole as your once frantic breathing begins to return to its normal pace.

Your tired eyes begin to blink open as the last bit of panic leaves your body in a few small gasps. When you fully regain consciousness, Cassidy sighs in relief as realization begins to sink into your thoughts.

"Are you okay, what the hell happened there?!" Questions Cole as he smooths his hands over your hair.

Choking out a small sob, you gently grasp his bicep to try and ground yourself as more tears begin to fall from your eyes.

"Cass, I-I'm sorry... I- I was back in Talon and the pain j-just wouldn't stop!"

His heart drops at the mention of the evil organization, knowing what kind of awful treatment you went through while kept there.

"I tr-tried to get away but I just.... couldn't! It was awful!" You whisper as you cross your arms over your chest.

"Darlin' I'm so sorry... I am so sorry..." Cole responds faintly before carefully pulling you into a hug.

The room grows still again for a moment, with only the sound of your hushed weeps filling the air.

"I don't wanna go back, please don't let them take me!" You cry into Cole's shoulder as he holds you close.

"No, no, you won't. I swear that as long I'm breathin', I will always make sure you never have to go through that ever again."

Genji:

Genji is all too familiar with nightmares. During the first couple years after his confrontation with Hanzo, he would very frequently have them. He's been through that whole song and dance a million times before.

Which is the reason he immediately knows what's happening when he wakes to the sound of your screams next to him.

He rushes to throw your shared quilt off and make sure you're okay, getting punched once or twice in the process.

After the nightmares pass and you calm down enough to speak, Genji is right there to comfort you.

"It's alright, my love, it is over now... Are you okay?" He questions as he holds one of your palms in his.

You shake your head no as you take several sharp breaths in and out.

"I was there again... in that-that godforsaken lab with fucking Moira prodding at me like cattle! It felt li-like it would never end! I can't go through that again!"

"And you don't have to. I don't know all of what happened to you, but I promise you will never have to face it on your own. I'm here to help you however I'm able to."

As the fearful adrenaline steadily leaves your veins, Genji brings your hand up to his chest so you could feel his heart beating just beneath his cybernetics.

"I love you and will sit here with you as long as you need me too."

With a sad, shaky laugh, you nod and you take your hand back in order to wrap yourself around him.

He does the same in turn as you embrace him ever so slightly tighter before he ushers for you to lay back down together so you can get some much needed sleep.

Pulling the blanket back over your bodies, he scooches in a little closer and begins to hum softly in the hopes of lulling you into a nightmare-less slumber.

Watching as your eyes begin to flutter closed again, he hears you mumble something just before you doze off.

"Thank you, Genji... I love you too."

Hanzo:

Hanzo already has trouble sleeping himself, so when your nightmares come around, he's already wide awake.

As you toss and turn underneath your blanket, he tries to calm you down by running his hand over you head, not caring if he gets hurt by your unintentionaly violent movements.

Once the night-terror ends, you start holding your face in your hands and rock back and forth as Hanzo rubs assuaging circles on your back.

"My dear, what can I do? How do I make the fear stop for now?" The archer inquires as you continue to shake in place.

"I don't know, Han... every time I close my eyes, all I can see is the lights and the wires and the needles... It won't go away no matter how hard I try. I just want them to be gone." You state, anxiously starting to press at your temples.

With a noiseless sigh escaping from his lips, Hanzo moves closer to place an arm across your shoulder and rest his forehead against your head.

"I am sorry for not being there with you. If I were able to change history, I would have gone to great lengths to rescue you."

As you begin to cry at his admission, he places a delicate kiss atop your head.

"I would never ask you to do something that dangerous for me. I couldn't bear it if something happened to you..." You sob out as you bury yourself into Hanzo's side.

Hanzo is quick to wrap his other arm around you, offering a comforting squeeze before ushering you into his lap.

"You wouldn't ever have to ask for my help. I would trade my life for yours if it meant that no more harm would come to you."

Ramattra:

It's uncommon for Omnics to dream- let alone have nightmares- so the first one you have around Ramattra? It comes as a bit of a shock to him.

When he hears you yell, he all but rockets out of his reboot cycle to scan the room for any hidden threats to your safety.

After seeing nobody there but the two of you, he glances down to see you- fast asleep but clawing at the air like a trapped animal scratching at a predator.

He then decides to do a scan of your vitals, just to make sure you aren't in any immediate medical distress. The scan reveals to him that your heartrate and breathing are through the roof.

Just as he's about to cross the room to try and wake you up, you shoot up from your fitful rest with a loud inhale as you slam your hands down onto the mattress below.

Swiftly joining your side on the bed, he cautiously turns your visage towards him as he goes to brush a few stray strands of hair out of your face.

While your eyes try to adjust to the low light of your room, you call out Ramattra's name, receiving a modulated but relaxing shush from his vocalizer.

"Calm yourself, pet, I'm right here. Now, tell me what has happened."

As you take a moment or two to collect yourself and come down from your frenzy, you gaze up to meet the faint glow of his faceplate emitting from his eyes.

"It's Talon; they... tormented me... a long time ago. Had me chained down as a doctor injected chemicals into me before he began flushing them out and started the whole process over again..."

Watching as you barely manage to hold back tears, His joints all seem to freeze in place as fury begins to creep in and take over all his systems.

"They need to suffer for their misdeeds. Who are they?..." He presses, his voice now hauntingly deeper than before .

"I don't know their names, and even if I did, I would do everything in my power to forget them."

An uneasy silence fills the space between you two, staying there for a minute before the large Omnic grunts and lifts you into his arms.

"I am sorry for what you had to go through. Just know that if any pain ever comes your way again, the offenders shall be personally dealt with." Ramattra claims as he rests his faceplate against your jaw.

Relishing in the cool feeling of his metal features against your warm skin, you nod appreciatively before he begins to lightly sway you to and fro.

Watching as you drift back to sleep, Ramattra makes a mental note to hunt down the Talon members who hurt you the next time he meets his allies. He wouldn't and will not stand for the mistreatment of the only human he has ever cared about.

COLE CASSIDY + YOUR HANDS. It can be taken both ways, really. He loves your hands, they way they so daintily slip into his own. His hands, having seen many days of work and use, aren’t as soft as they used to be. So he just loves to hold yours, feeling them smooth over every callus and lovingly squeeze to get his attention. Though he doesn’t think the size difference is all too bad, either <3.

HANZO SHIMADA + YOUR HAIR. He loves your hair, no matter the appearance it may have. He finds great satisfaction in running his hands through it, especially if you have just washed it. He loves the silky feel it has to it, and just can’t get enough. Considering his hair has been all different kinds of lengths, he has knowledge on how to brush it correctly and comfortably - so, just for you, he would be sure to offer.

REAPER (GABRIEL REYES) + YOUR THIGHS. Reaper loves them; no matter shape or size. Whilst he does prefer a general softness, he wouldn’t go out of his way to comment. To him, they are just one more thing to love on and hold. It’s a reassurance to come home from a hard day at work and know that life isn’t all that bad - and that there are gentle things to be protected, too. Also, bonus; yes, he will fall asleep on them if he’s tired enough.

LUCIO CORREIA + YOUR HEAD. Lucio really struggles picking. I mean, all of you is amazing! But if he had to pick, it would be your head. For starters, it has your face on it, which of course he adores. It has your ears, that he listens to music with - and, it has your brain. He loves watching you deep in thought, and he loves your intellect. ‘Dumb’ or ‘Smart’ - whatever you consider yourself - Lucio loves it and can’t get enough.

Summary: Reader rambling on about an interest of theirs while they realise that their lover hasn’t responded to them in a minute to stop and find them in awe at how adorable their rambling was.

Cassidy

Cole’s a talkative guy who loves to go on and on about things himself so when he gets to see you do it as well his heart swells at the sight.

He’s so glad that there’s something that you find this much passion in and that you’re comfortable enough to ramble on to him about all these things.

While you’re normally going on about these things though he’ll usually reply to some of the things you say instead of purely listening to let you know that he’s still there.

When you realise he’s stopped replying you turn to look over at him, worried that you might have bore him

Nope.

He has his head propped up by his hand on the table and he’s smiling that same warm, endearing smile that you had fallen in love with all that while ago.

“Gonna keep goin’ sweetheart?”

It wasn’t really a question, more of an encouragement.

Of course you obliged.

Hanzo

Listening to you is a normal thing for him, though that doesn’t mean that he enjoys it any less.

It’s something that he relishes, like Cassidy he loves to see that there's something you’re passionate enough about to open up like this to him.

He definitely asks himself what he did to deserve you.

He’ll just sit while doing something like cleaning his bow.

You are his favourite thing to listen to especially while doing menial tasks.

He’ll occasionally let out hums of acknowledgement to let you know that he’s still listening to you.

Sometimes he’ll put down what he’s doing just to get a good look at you.

He loves seeing the way your eyes seem to have this sparkle while talking about your interests.

Soon a small smile will develop onto his face while he admires you.

You realise how awfully quiet he had been when you stop to check on him and you’re met with him looking lovingly at you with the smallest but most loving of smiles on his face.

“Why’d you stop?”

You shook your head at his question with a grin on your face before returning to the topic you were talking about.

with his life of being on the run, it’s rare that the two of you ever go on dates in public

but for your first Valentine’s Day together, he really wants to make it special

he takes extra caution planning everything out—casing places, making sure they’re secure

decides on taking you to a movie in the park and packs you guys a picnic

has all your favourite snacks and drinks too!!

picks you up (also random but he totally drives a Vespa/electric scooter) mostly on time

definitely seats you at a more secure place in the park where there’s not a lot of people

unpacks the picnic basket and spreads out a blanket and some pillows and a delicious spread of food

tries to be all cute and feed you food but he’s so nervous he accidentally smashes it in your face

he’s smooth with it tho and he’ll wipe your face off and kiss the spot better

“are you cold? come closer.”

cuddles you while you watch the movie to keep you warm

also off topic but he smells amazing

you guys stay in the park long after the movie ends just stargazing

he knows his constellations and points them out to you

“i like to look at the stars when I’m on the road,” he says. “because they remind me that no matter how far away you are, i still get the pleasure of living in the same world you are.”

Cassidy:

he probably didn’t realize Valentine’s was coming up until like two days before

but this man goes all out

you’re just so special to him, he has to show you how much he loves you (even tho he literally treats you like royalty every day of the year)

plans a lowkey night for the two of you

also makes it a surprise (mostly because he forgot lmfao)

picks you up on his motorbike and takes you to his favorite diner

he’s always wanted to take you there and have you try their apple pie

all of the staff there know him and they’re in awe of the two of you together

they definitely give you guys food in the shape of a heart and turn on some romantic music

he’s weirdly nervous considering it’s him

“so uh, after this I was thinkin we could go have a drink or two?”

he’s so flustered it’s adorable

and obviously you agree, and he takes you to his favourite bar

even if it is a lowkey night, you’re still happy you get to spend time with him

plus, he’s a private man, and him showing you his favorite places is his way of showing you his heart

“yknow something, darlin? I think we ought to turn this into a tradition.”

Genji:

as a proud supporter of Fuck Boy Genji™️, he definitely didn’t celebrate Valentine’s Day in his youth

doesn’t know exactly how to celebrate with you, just knows he wants to do something

asks everyone for advice, but everyone is telling him something different and it just makes him all confused

he decides to trust his instincts on what to do

picks you up in a button down and cute jeans, holding a bouquet of your favorite flowers

he doesn’t tell you where he’s taking you, but he’s so excited he’s practically vibrating the whole way

you actually have to squeeze his hand to calm him down a little bit

he takes you to this unassuming, kind of dark building on the edge of town

knocks on the door and someone opens a little slot, he says a random word and suddenly the door swings open to reveal a little staircase

takes you down and into a totally chill speakeasy

it’s warm inside and there’s jazz music filling the air

Genji looks absolutely stunning in the amber lighting too

you guys get a table with a great view of the stage and order yummy food and drinks

“Do you like it? I thought big crowds might be overwhelming and—“

Shut him up by kissing his cheek and telling him you love it

“I’ve never really…had a Valentine before, but I’m really glad you’re my first, y/n.”

Hanzo:

unlike his brother, he probably had had a Valentine before, but he’s never been one to share his life with others

however, he really wants to show you a good time and treat you to a good night

big crowds and people are not really his thing, so he sets out to make a special night at home for the two of you

invites you over for food and movies

cooks you one of his signature meals, and the two of you eat together at the table under candlelight

definitely has warm saké ready for the both of you to drink too

has one of his favorite movies and one of your favorite movies ready to go on his tv

cuddles up to you on the couch under a super soft throw blanket

honestly one of the only times he really allows himself to be super clingy and attached to you

always has his hands on you, probably kissing your neck and shoulders and head

makes sure to pay special attention to your favorite movie because he knows it means a lot to you

“I know this isn’t much but…I really wanted to share something special with you away from prying eyes.”

you guys end up falling asleep on the couch together, and even though Hanzo wakes up at some point, he doesn’t move

he’s just content to be with you

Junkrat:

the concept of a Valentine is kinda lost to him since he didn’t really have time for that growing up in Junkertown

but he notices a bunch of heart shaped decorations when him and Roadhog are robbing a bank

which of course prompts him to ask his partner what they’re for

the way Hog explains it is a little…different, but Junkrat literally has heart eyes the whole time

he decides he wants to celebrate it with you so he spends hours making you a Valentine

makes you this cute little card (and he swears up and down that it won’t blow up when you open it)

and tried to make you cookies but ends up burning them :((

so he recruits Roadhog’s help and together they bake and decorate cute little sugar cookies for you

he gives them to you on Valentine’s and he’s super nervous the whole time

you honestly tear up a little at how cute it is

the two of you end up eating them together and hanging out for the rest of the night

“I think I like Valentine’s Day!” He announces. “Do you think…do you think we’ll spend the next one together, too?”

Lucio:

between being a wanted criminal for stealing from Vishkar and being a world renowned DJ, going out on Valentine’s Day is not the best idea

but that’s not going to stop him

he spreads out flower petals and lights candles across the apartment and waits for you to come home

settles in on the couch with his guitar, practising quietly in case you’re outside

when you come home, you’re greeted by the smell of gourmet candles and flowers leading you down the hallway

you can hear the soft sounds of a guitar strumming and you follow the sounds

you make it to your living room to see Lucio strumming his guitar, and when he sees you, his eyes light up

he starts singing a song he wrote for you, looking at you with his little heart eyes the whole time

you’re left on the verge of tears the whole time and when he’s done playing, you pull him in for a kiss

“so, did you like it?”

you’re speechless tbh

like he loves you enough to write an entire song just for you

and that’s not the end, either, because he surprises you with a dinner reservation to your favorite restaurant

and to make sure you’re not being swarmed by fans, he’s bought out the entire restaurant

the two of you get to eat in peace and have a great Valentine’s Day

“so I, uh, I wanted to know if you’d be okay with me putting that song on my album? I just—I love you so much, I want the whole world to know.”

Zenyatta:

partly because he’s a monk but also because he’s an omnic, I don’t think he’d really celebrate Valentine’s

however if it’s important to you, he’ll definitely put the effort in to make you happy

plus he’s so lowkey, he’s open to trying anything

when he hears you talking about Valentine’s Day to one of your friends, it gives him the idea to surprise you and celebrate it

he spends days coming up with ideas and pays extra close attention to your likes/dislikes

would probably ask Genji for some advice before giving up when he realizes the boy is clueless

settles on getting you a very personal, intimate gift and letting you decide where to take it from there

he gets you a new pair of headphones and makes you a mixtape/playlist to listen to to calm you down

since he knows sometimes you get stressed out or anxious

it’s so unexpected that you cry and the poor omnic is stuck figuring out if they’re tears of joy or not

he's the type of guy to believe that he doesn't deserve any of these things. he'll try to refuse them as soon as he sees them, trying to make up an excuse to say no to them

eventually, he'll give in and accept your gifts and snacks for him. he knows that he's very lucky that you did this for him and he can't help but to wonder why

he feels like he could cry over it. he isn't sure if he's happy about it or distressed. he hasn't been treated like this in so long that he forgot that people can have that much compassion

he tries to remain unreadable the entire time you're talking to him about it. showing any sort of emotion like this makes him feel really vulnerable even though he knows he's safe with you

he notices you left a note for him with the snacks and gifts and he reads it after you leave

it consists of how much you love him and how proud you are of him and his growth. it makes his chest feel really tight, but he's glad he read it. it helps him to realize he's really trying

he just stands there for a moment, watching as you giggle and arrange his gifts on the table in his room for him. you turn around with a skip in your step until you see him in the doorway
