OnS Chapter 123-124
Been a while lol. Finally getting to reading this chapter and the next. From the cover art I can tell this is gonna be something else.
I’m gonna read the chapters back-to-back so this would have lots of screenshots from both.
Yuu opens the door to see further into his past and sees the most unbelievable thing: dinasours. He was distracted and got dragged by another dinosaur towards a dino-fight but luckily before he could get in the scuffle he fell off. Mika runs over to him and both of them escape to safety.
I don’t know all of the dinosaurs names so I’d just be referring to them as dinosaurs. I can’t believe there are dinosaurs in this manga. Imagine telling someone what Owari no Seraph is, like “It’s about Humans vs Vampires and then later vs Demons and Angels. Oh and dinosaurs show up later! It makes sense in context!” lol
After the danger has passed, Yuu finally let it sink in that he’s seeing real dinosaurs and is super excited! Mika points out that this is still in Yuu’s memories which meant that Yuu existed here back then. They wonder how that could be and Yuu wonders if humans already existed in these times and Mika explains that they did not.
A timeline of events lol
Hahaha I love their interaction when it’s like this. I know things are becoming urgent and serious in the outside world but at least whenever these two are together like this, it feels like there’s still hope if they could have even this bit of fun.
Anyways, Yuu points out that if this is part of his memories then the him from this time should be around there somewhere, too.
Hahahaha wtf
Yuu hopes this isn’t the past version of him cause he’d prefer something cooler. The creature stares at them which made them wonder if it is Yuu.
A certain someone shows up.
The angel Mikaela arrives and grabs the creature from before making the two wonder if this was Mika’s memories instead.
Angel Mikaela pokes the creature and out pops a black ball with one eye. He and the black ball both leave together.
Mika and Yuu try to follow the two but it’s difficult when the ones they’re following can fly. Yuu doesn’t have enough desires to fill Mika for more power to help then and Yuu needs to eat again, too. Yuu leaves for a moment to eat as quickly as he could while Mika stays behind to keep track of their targets.
Yuu returns with a full stomach which gave Mika enough power to let them jump really high. Once they spot the angel and his companion, the two run as fast as they could in that direction.
When they finally get there, well...
Around the are other angels and black orbs with eyes. The two wonder what this meant and if this was the age of angels.
Next chapter!
The two walk around in what appears to be a city of angels. None of the angels could see them but Mika reminds Yuu they could still get hit by them. They continue to look for angel Mikaela as it’s the only clue they have (Mika points out that calling his angel look alike “Angel Mika” is unimaginative lol).
The two find a map but neither of them could read it. Yuu suggest to just continue looking around and inside the buildings til they find who they’re looking for but Mika yells at him reminding him that the place is huge - ten times bigger than Shibuya or Shinjuku.
Yuu says they don’t have a choice and happily went off. Mika thinks Yuu’s positivity is a good thing he should emulate as well.
A shot from space.
The two take a break. The place is too big and it’s getting dark as well. Yuu has gone hungry again from all the running. When they thought of letting Yuu leave to eat for a moment, the one they’re looking for passes by.
It’s Angel Mika! With some ice cream looking thing!
So Yuu leaves and eats as quickly as he could while Mika stays and continues to run after the angel. In order to catch up, Mika hitches a ride on one of the large black orbs.
The orb went to a different direction than the angel did but Mika was still able to see where he went. Yuu reappears and is informed that the Angel Mika went to one of the high towers. Mika teases Yuu and asks if Yuu also wanted to climb this one as Yuu liked high places.
This convo is both funny and sweet. Mika calls Yuu dumb and Yuu admits to it but they don’t see it as a bad thing. Yuu being dumb is tied to his optimistic and determined nature after all.
Mika now has enough power to let them jump high and far again and the two were able to catch up to the angel.
They overhear Angel Mika’s words on the way. They wonder if the “father” the angel spoke of is the First Progenitor (and also if angels eat ice cream lol).
Yuu wonders how high above the angel went and Mika tried and failed to count the number of floors. Yuu asks why Mika even tried and Mika just said he wanted to look smart. lol Mika’s trying to be goofy as well but at least things are still lighthearted for now (considering they might see the First Progenitor later).
They follow the angel to the tower although the went inside normally rather than jump towards the really high entrance the angel went into.
On of the angels went somewhere prompting this automatic message to play. The tower they’re in is the “Tower of Babel” whose goal is to let them return to paradise.
Mika and Yuu jump quickly to enter the same entrance the other angel did.
The two found elevators and decided to use one to get to the top. Since they don’t know which floor Angel Mika went to, they’re gonna try to search from the very top first.
When they got there, they find a certain someone.
---
First dinosaurs and then now a city filled with angels. What the heck is happening in this manga?! lol
Again, I love the interactions between Yuu and Mika. They tease each other, have a few arguments, call each other out when the other is being dumb, and they support each other and are just having fun when they can. After everything bad that happened before especially to Mika who went through so much throughout this manga, its nice to see this.
Not gonna lie, I get worried whenever they show the real world. It makes me worry that someone would get there to find Yuu and Mika while they’re in the memory world or someone might popup to attack Yuu while he’s eating.
Yuu’s desire is pretty simple even if it’s complicated: he just wants to save everyone no matter what and for them to live at the end of it. If not, well he tried. It seems like maybe it’s so simple there’s nothing else much for Mika to absorb. On the other hand, basica human necessity is still eating and drinking. It’s something the body would badly desire if it’s lacking nutrients and it’s also refillable. It’s seems to be a good replacement for more desire - Yuu’s body would want to eat and that’s a desire and if he fulfils it, he’d be stronger for the moment to give Mika more power. I dunno where I’m going with this i just thought it’s interesting.
Okay, back to the story:
The joke about how Yuu might be that lizard thing (I don’t know what it is so I’m calling it “lizard thing”) is pretty funny but also, it might not be entirely wrong. Angel Mika grabs the thing and takes out one of the floating black orbs with one eye. They seem to be close (maybe it’s a pet? companion?) and Angel Mika left with it on him on his way to see his father.
I think that specific black orb could be Yuu.
I mean, in his past memories in Ancient Greece, all of the clone Yuu’s start out as just an eye, if I remember correctly. Maybe Yuu started out as just that black orb and then turned into human.
My guess for this is that to resurrect Angel Mika perfectly the way he used to be, he has to have all of his memories. Shika Madu seem to be busy judging from this chapter and that orb is almost always with Angel Mika. If that was Yuu then he’d technically have more of Angel Mika’s memories although in a different POV. It might be why Yuu is told he is needed to wake up Angel Mika in the coffin.
I mean that’s what happened when Mika turned into a demon, right? He lost his memories and doesn’t remember much about his past as a human and a vampire. When he accepted making a contract with Yuu, he gains access to Yuu’s memories which not only slowly unlocked his own memories but is also able to see those same memories from Yuu’s perspective.
My thoughts on the Angel City is that the angels there might have been kicked out of heaven or was sent there but were unable to get back up. They need a way to return home either way so the tower was made. There’s not enough info right now to have a proper guess though.
That was fun! More lore explanation next chapter, I hope.
