This is story one of six on fanfiction. There’s another 2 to 3 ‘books’ published on fictionpress ( https://www.fictionpress.com/~graciebecker) however I stopped at book 5 as the story no longer featured Omelia & family as front and centre, rather then Original characters.
Full disclosure: I am not a huge fan of the way this series is written as I feel like nobody is really written in character however it’s still a good read if you're looking for a long Omelia fix.
There is another author who also published these stories in similar format with permission so don’t be alarmed if you come across a duplicate!

The Darkening Pt. 17
Howdy, here’s chapter 17! Thank you to everyone who sent me feedback, I so appreciate it, it’s a real incentive to keep posting on here. I hope you enjoy this, please do let me know x
Masterpost
Chaptor 16
“Everyone is treating me like a time bomb” Amelia said walking slowly into one of the upstairs bedroom. The white sky was dulling its light as the evening rolled in, a pair of tea lights sat in two corners of the room. Nina chuckled, declaring “well you sort of are”, pulling out a tape measure.
“Even the kids are coddling me” Amelia said, shaking her head, lifting her top up and tucking it into her bra, folding her arms across her breasts, allowing Nina access to her stomach.
The air was chilled, goose pimples pricked up on the surface of Amelia bump and she shivered.
“Everyone is bored, and you and this baby are the most exciting thing that’s happening” Nina said, taking the tape from around Amelia’s waist, continuing to measure the vertical circumference of her bump. She twisted her lips.
“It’s crappy” Amelia stated, tipping up her chin, shrugging her shoulders, trying to shake some of the tension that was building due to the cold.
“Well, you have less than three months now” Nina said indicating the scales with a tilt of her head. Amelia stepped on and looked up, not wanting to see.
Nina eyes the display and frowned, her brow furrowed briefly as she read the number.
“Right you, lie down please” she said, patting the bed. Amelia sat down, huffing, then lying down. “Arms up by your head please” Nina ordered, sitting down beside Amelia’s legs, analysing the shape of her bump. Amelia put her hands behind her head and gazed up at the ceiling.
“Did you get a portable ultrasound?”
“I did”
Amelia’s eyes flicked down when Nina laid her hands on her stomach and began palpating. “Are you going to do a scan?” Amelia prompted.
“Um…” Nina answered distractedly, pushing firmly. “I think so, yeah…” she pushed harder, biting her lip.
Amelia frowned, clenching her teeth. “Is something wrong?”
“No, no nothing, sorry, that’s just my face” she said, smiling. There was a knock at the door and Owen peeked in, Nina turned. “Hey could you quickly just run and get Arizona for me?”
Owen’s face morphed quickly to one of concern. “It’s fine, really, I just want to pick her brain” Nina said, smiling again. Amelia wasn’t falling for it.
“Nina what’s going on?”
“Amelia, seriously nothing”
Amelia ground her teeth and closed her eyes, trying to calm herself, feeling her heart beating hard. In the time they waited for Arizona and Owen to return, they didn’t speak, Nina just moved about Amelia, checking her blood pressure, and checking her limbs for swelling. She smiled, “All good here Amelia” she said, sitting back at her side, laying her hands on Amelia’s stomach again.
She pulled out her stethoscope and began to listen for a heartbeat. Amelia turned her face to the window. It was still snowing. The flakes of falling snow only just decipherable against the whiter sky.
“Hey” Arizona entered, followed by Owen. Owen stood by the door, not wanting to get in the way. His eyes were wide, fixing on the two women beside his wife.
Nina forced a smile wider than was necessary and said, “Hey, come and just have a feel here will you?” Arizona caught on to the smile and saw Amelia’s steely gaze off out of the window. She smiled warmly and nodded, moving to the other side of the bed, climbing on, blocking Amelia’s view.
Amelia looked back to the ceiling, closing her eyes when she felt Arizona’s hands on her. “This is her weight…” Nina spoke quietly, showing Arizona her notes, “and the fundus height, and see her other measurements” She continued.
“How many weeks?”
“27” Arizona nodded, keeping her poker face, feeling Amelia’s bump again. Amelia moved her hands from behind her head, to over her face. She bit her lip.
“Guys, come on…” Owen said out of frustration, throwing his hands up. Arizona mouthed something to Nina, and Nina nodded.
“I want to do a scan to check, but guys… I don’t know how we missed it, but… I guess it happens…”
“Nina… what are you saying?” Owen interrupted her loudly, stepping closer.
“I think you’re having twins” Nina said. Her sentence gave way to a stunned silence. Amelia uncovered her face, looking to Nina as if she were crazy. “I can… well we can…” she indicated Arizona and her, “feel two craniums, and your weight and measurements are more than is normal for a single.”
“Let’s get a scan?” Arizona said to Nina, dismissing the couples silence, reaching down for the small machine and passing Nina the conductive gel.
“But… we have done scans, how did you miss it, Nina, how did…”
“Amelia, I don’t know, it’s rare, but our machines are not the best there are… it happens”
“Wait stop there” Arizona interrupted, sticking out her hand. Nina froze her hand, where she held the transducer against Amelia’s firm stomach.
Amelia searched out Owen with her eyes. She found him standing with his arms hanging limp, his skin pale and his eyes wide.
“You see that?” Arizona asked, leaning towards Nina, who nodded, slowly moving the transducer.
“Please, tell me what’s going on, I can’t bear this” Amelia spoke tearfully, the words burst from her mouth. Her outburst shocked Owen into action, and he was kneeling beside her head in seconds, taking her hand.
“What we have is monoamniotic-monochorionic twins”
Amelia laxened her neck and scrunched her eyes shut, “Oh.”
“Are you sure? Are you sure, because they’re so rare?” Owen voiced erratically.
“Yes, look” Nina said, showing them the screen. “You’re one is sixty thousand.”
Amelia began to cry, hiding her face in the crook of her arm, chest heaving.
“They’re okay, their cords aren’t tangled, and they’re in good positions, the position of their shared placenta is good and healthy they’re both good and equally sized. They’re both strong Amelia. This just means we’re going to need to monitor you and them very closely. Most importantly we need you and them as calm and rested as possible.”
Amelia shook her head, tears stringing from her eyes, “It’s too risky, they could die, they could get tangled, or one could hog the blood, or… or com...compressi”
“Amelia… Amelia breathe, all we can do is our very best okay? I believe we can do this, I would tell you if I didn’t, and I’d be running across the country figuring out what we need to do. But I DO believe we can do this. Just breathe”
Owen soothed Amelia’s hair back and pressed three firm kisses to her face.
“It’s okay, we’re alright, we can do this” Owen said, feeling a knot tighten in his chest. Amelia wept, nodding, gasping. “Breathe, come on, let’s sit up” Owen said, heaving her up and sitting behind her, wrapping her in his arms and holding her firmly.
She calmed, closing her eyes, drooping her head. She clutched at Owen’s arms, squeezing them as she steadied her breathing. “I want to put these on Amelia…” Nina said, holding up two compact fetal monitors. Amelia nodded, swallowing, feeling suddenly delirious and nauseous. She sat forward, attached to Owen only by his hands in hers.
“This is how we’ll be able to detect compression, and if their cords tangle, alright, we’ll catch it” Nina said, correctly positioning them against the babies backs. Amelia breathed in deeply, closing her eyes, squeezing Owen’s hands.
“Amelia… Amelia look at me” Arizona spoke firmly. Amelia opened her eyes to find Arizona directly in front of her. “You’re safe okay, this isn’t bad news, we just need to adapt to the news, okay? Alright? You’re having two babies, identical twins! That’s amazing Amelia” She said, smiling genuinely, nodding.
Amelia nodded, slowly, cautiously smiling too. Arizona laughed softly, smiling wider, “this is good” she said, and Amelia laughed, and felt some relief at Arizona’s reassurances. “Look, look at these strong heartbeats… look” Arizona said, bringing the fetal monitor close. Amelia looked down tentatively, taking in the reading. She calmed further and pulled Owen’s arms around her.
“Come on, let’s get downstairs to the warmth and get some food, some tea?” Owen said, dropping a kiss into the crook of her neck. Amelia sniffed and nodded, shifting to the edge of the bed. She bit her bottom lip and breathed evenly through her nose as she carefully pulled her vest top over her stomach, trying not to nudge the monitors. Nina and Arizona watched her with concealed concern. Arizona offered her hand to help her rise. Owen offered his hand too and Amelia took both with a sigh.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
“I just want to go to sleep” Amelia told Owen as they made their way down the hall, to the stairs.
“Okay” Owen said, walking behind her holding the fetal monitor she had attached to her in his hand. He ghosted his other hand at her back, just in case she needed catching.
His hand shook, as his fears briefly overwhelmed him. He swallowed them back, but was unable to rid himself of the anxiety he felt at the prospect of Amelia carrying their two babies, identical twins. He set his eyes at her lower back, trying to allow the news to sink in.
They reached the bottom of the stairs and were greeted by the group, their smiles faltered, as they took in the couples expressions. Evelyn stood up and approached the pair, “What’s wrong? What happened? Amelia, are you okay?”
Amelia smiled tentatively, though her eyes still gleaned with tears. “We’re having identical twins, they share a placenta” Amelia said, moving further into the room. The room gasped, understanding the increased risk, understanding the need for the fetal monitors. “This… is good, guys” Alex said, “are they both okay?”
Owen nodded, following Amelia with the machine.
“Do you want the couch?” Megan asked, beginning to stand up.
Amelia shook her head, “No,... thank you, I want to lie near the fire” she said, sinking down atop a heap of pillows and blankets that she and Owen had slept on the previous night, alongside the fire.
“Mn cold” she said, lying on her side, sighing, closing her eyes.  The group looked between each other. Owen pulled the blanket up from her feet, and she wrapped her arm around it at her waist, hugging it close.
“What’s happening, what does that mean?” Ray asked softly to Evelyn. Evelyn smiled at Ray and pulled her against her side. “Amelia is having two babies, and they’re identical, so that means they’ll look just like each other…” Ray gasped, grinning.
“Really! That’s like a magic trick”
“But… it does mean that Amelia is going to need to rest much much more and we need to be extra helpful” Evelyn said quietly, squeezing the girl lovingly.
Ray moved from Evelyn’s embrace and approached Amelia. “Not just now Ray, let her sleep” Owen said, shaking his head. He sat watchfully, elbows to his knees in the armchair. Ray’s smile dropped, and her shoulders sank. She nodded. “No” Amelia turned her head, smiling softly to Ray. “Come here you, I need my Ray of sunshine” Amelia smiled, beckoning her over.
Ray giggled and sped over, dropping in front of Amelia, lying with her back to the fire. She wrapped her arms around Amelia and nuzzled into the circle of the embrace. The little girl closed her eyes tightly and inhaled Amelia’s fragrance, finding comfort in it in a way she’d found comfort in her mother’s arms. Amelia found herself smiling, she pressed a firm kiss into Ray’s curls and closed her eyes too.
-------------------------------------
“You hungry Ginny” Amelia uttered softly, closing the kitchen door behind her and the cat. It was late. Everyone was asleep, everyone but the babies, “babies” Amelia mumbled, shaking her head.
Ginny wound herself around Amelia’s ankles as she put down the fetal monitoring machine, and the gas lantern, on the kitchen counter and pressed her hands against her stomach.
Ginny meowed, the first sound Amelia had ever heard from her, more of a raspy ‘Ha’ than a meow. Amelia tilted to see the cat around her bump, “sweet baby” Amelia said, smiling tightly.
Ginny jumped up onto the table as Amelia scraped some cat food into a bowl. Amelia stood and watched her eat for a moment, appreciating the distraction. “Two babies Ginny, how am I gonna do this?” Amelia mused, sighing. “I need pears” she told the cat, turning and opening a cupboard, finding a can of pears and then sitting down.
Wolf wind howled outside, the snow had yet to cease. Something about having everything they needed, and not needing to leave the house, made the prospect of being snowed in sort of pleasing. It made Amelia feel safe.
Amelia hummed with delight as she bit into a pear quarter, lifting her feet onto the chair beside her, crossing her ankles. Ginny began purring as she ate. The room was still warm from the evening, so Amelia let her blanket fall open, setting the can of pears on her round stomach and swept her hair back over her shoulders, it was getting so long, she made a note to ask Evelyn to cut it soon.
The kitchen door creaked open and Amelia’s eyes darted to see who was entering. She relaxed into a soft smile when she saw it was Owen. His eyes brightened as he took her in, warmth and love, and adoration radiating.
“I woke up and you weren’t there” he said, moving to the chair where Amelia rest her feet, lifting them and sitting down, settling them on his lap.
“I couldn’t sleep” Amelia said, eating another pear piece. Owen eyed Ginny, smile lingering.  “The…” Amelia smiled cautiously wider, “babies” she said, meeting Owen’s gaze. They both smiled wider, sharing their astonishment at the idea. “They are fidgeting too much… when I’m lying still” She said, looking down at her stomach, still holding onto the can, so that it wouldn’t be shifted off by the movement of their offspring. Owen nodded slowly, eyeing her stomach too.
“I still can’t believe there are two in there…” Owen uttered quietly, shaking his head. Amelia chuckled softly, nodding, and then shaking her head too. “Me either… I’d just… I’d thought we just had one really active baby”
They sat in silence, swimming in their own thoughts. The snow grew heavier outside and began to pummel the window, hailing now. The window rattled quietly, and the pair both eyed it, smiles still lingering. The snow calmed Owen too.
“Nina and Arizona are getting along well” Amelia said, eyebrows raised, mischief glinting in her eyes.
Owen seemed taken aback. “Really, is… is Nina gay?”
“Oh definitely, I get vibes.”
“Well… if you get vibes” Owen smirked, sitting back in his chair, thinking about it.
“Our whole time away from here was just to get Arizona a girlfriend” Amelia quipped, tipping her head back to drop a large piece of pear in her mouth. Owen laughed quietly.
“Yeah that and to find you an OB” Owen said, nodding to her.
“Oh and that” Amelia said, putting down her can of pears on the table. “Could you get me some water?” Amelia asked. Her first thought had been to get it herself but then her eyes had fallen on her husband.
“Yeah” he said, getting up. He ran his hand from Ginny’s head to her tail and the cat purred and stretched, walking across the table, turning to Amelia when Owen turned his back.
“Why did you wake up?” Amelia asked him, watching him move around the kitchen, stroking Ginny.
“I was cold, without you next to me and the fire had died a little”
Amelia sat quietly, watching as Ginny went back to her food.
“Here” Owen placed a glass of water next to her on the table. “Your hair is so long” Owen said, threading his fingers through it. Amelia took a sip of her water and hummed, lolling her head back. “And thick too, it’s untamable, I was going to get someone to cut it, maybe Evelyn”
“I can cut it”
“You can’t cut hair” Amelia told him, chuckling.
“How do you know that, I can, I did when I was in the army”
“I don’t want a buzz cut Owen, just a few inches”
“I can do it now” he said and Amelia tipped her head back, trying to see if he was serious. He just grinned, holding her hair. “Are you serious?... well you like my hair, so if you ruin it, you’ll be sad too” Owen nodded and grabbed a pair of scissors. Ginny sat next to Amelia on the table now, cleaning her paw.
“You can’t visibly mess up too much any way, my hair is so thick because of the pregnancy”
“Hey, I’m not going to mess up, have a little faith.”

How could you do that?
Why did you run away like this?
It’s the worst decision of your whole life… you lost so much with this choice… I’m not sure she forgives you…
Sitting in one of the spooky rooms of the Special Services Branch, Rosie’s words and questions see popping up like a nagging litany in my mind. Back in the United States, not without difficulty with my cover identity, Rosie was the first person I visited. The reunion was intense in emotion and tears… it was only after two hours that she managed to calm down realizing that I was alive and understanding what I was awkwardly trying to explain to her about the real situation.
My death: smokescreen.
My role of spy.
My identity was abandoned in favor of my homeland so that I endorse the characters necessary for my missions.
I spent a total of 4 days with Rosie, in this little locality of Canada that I love so much and which soothes me more. After a certain distance and reserve, she had ended after two days by returning to her usual behavior with me and fully integrating my presence at her side. And it is on these last two days that her questions and her words have completely come to light: no matter how hard I tried to justify my choice, she didn’t understand it. I tried for my part to collect some elements on Amelia… as if to prepare myself for this.
Rosie had thus revealed to me that Amelia visited my parent’s house at least once a year, probably using the key I had given her. She usually stayed there for a week, preferably in the spring, and enjoyed the moments she shared with Rosie, away from the hustle and bustle of the city and her occupation, because obviously, her status was unchanged: an essential artist of the American scene.
I realized, however, that Rosie was sticking to basic information and not telling me anything about what had become Amelia’s life: all the more specific and personal questions that I was trying to ask her, Rosie refused to answer, giving me for all feedback: "You must ask these questions to Amelia. It is up to her to answer you." The mystery was still there for me, as I was back in Seattle:
Is Amelia okay?
How had she lived these almost two years which have passed?
Has she found that hint of happiness that I wished for her when I decided to leave?
--
The cracking of the door takes me out of my memories… and the silhouette of my most loyal supporter appears and walks confidently into the room. A thin smile spreads over my face, like a relief to recognize a familiar face after these two years living in the lie, where I have known only threats and enemies. I get up and shyly take a step forward then take him in my arms for a long second.
- It makes me happy to see you, Nathan…
- Me too Owen… glad to see you got out of this mission…
We stay silent for a few moments, then I go back and take a little distance. I feel his benevolent gaze on me as if he was studying every detail to detect the differences left by time and by my cover identity.
- I see you adopted the three-day beard look… it changes you… he resumes smiling.
- Yes, the budding beard was part of the look of my blanket and I decided to keep it in… it seems fashionable, considering the number of men that I see in the streets of Seattle, I conclude with a smile.
Nathan nods then I can see his face take on a more serious and almost darker appearance.
- How are you, Owen?
The question seems the simplest possible… and yet the tone he uses lets me guess all the meaning he associates with it. I lower my eyes a few seconds before trying my hand at an answer.
- I’m glad to be back home… but the situation is much more difficult than I thought…coming back from the dead is not really a scenario that I have already had the opportunity to prepare…
- Logically, you shouldn’t go through this, given the choice you made almost 2 years ago…
- Yes, I know… and I remember very well that you warned me. But at that moment, 2 years ago, I was convinced I was making the right decision for everyone. And above all, I was convinced that I was the strongest… that the reason would be the strongest.
- I’m not here to lecture you, Owen… I’m here to help you if I can…
He slips a hand into his suit jacket pocket and takes out two items: an envelope and a bunch of keys.
- Here is the key to your apartment: I asked to keep it and not to sell it as you asked me before… I suspected you might change your mind.
I collect the keys, a look grateful for the lucidity of Nathan who knew me better than anyone… even myself.
- And in the envelope?
- In the envelope… that’s what I fought for a week and your call announcing your return. I managed to give you back your Owen Hunt identity, to have your death canceled after long discussions with the management…but you lose your agent status… they don’t want to hear from you anymore.
I was speechless for a few seconds.
What I was doing was completely outside the rules. When you sign up as a spy, it’s a lifelong commitment… the identity that you lose, you abandon it forever. I never imagined that I could have found my life before, back to my true identity…coming back I had prepared to consider an entire life under a new name. Nathan gave me an unexpected and invaluable gift.
- Ho…how did you manage to…
- Don’t worry, he interrupts me, pushing the envelope on the table in my direction. In there you will find all your papers: passport, identity card, license… for the administration, your death never took place and you are an American taxpayer like all.
- I don’t know what you say… I hope you haven’t risk for your situation.
- You know, my career is more behind me than in front of me… I have no more to lose, he says with a smile.
- Thank you, Nathan…
These are the only words that come to me. Words that I express in a breath, won by the unfailing commitment that he shows to me.
- On the other hand, you imagine the compensation…you have no interest in being noticed in any way that it is regarding the authorities and do no imagine having to ask for any support if you were considering becoming a bodyguard again.
- Of course, I understand… but anyway, I don’t intend to completely resume my previous life.
- What are you going to do then?
- I don’t know yet…I have enough money aside to be able to take the time to give another meaning to my professional life…but I know I won’t be able to be anyone’s bodyguard after this experience…
A silence of a minute or more suddenly sets in.
My gaze remains on the bunch of keys and the envelope that materializes this life that I thought was lost forever…I rediscovered my identity, my apartment, and my memories, and yet I knew that some things were different. Things that would be much more difficult to find.
- Do you plan to see her again? Is that why you came back?
Nathan’s question pierces the silence and targets precisely the biggest unknown of my return as Owen Hunt.
- Yes…I did not manage to forget her…I realized that I am more unhappy far from her, that I suffer more than in any other situation. Even if I don’t live up to her expectations…I need to know…to try to be who she expects.
- I won’t tell you anything about Amelia, you have to confront her alone…but know that two years is short and long at the same time…and your "death" was a terrible ordeal for her…I don’t know how she will react when she sees you again…but prepare yourself psychologically… she went through very difficult times.
Everything Nathan expresses to me, I was already anticipating. But hearing my fears and thoughts thus confirmed by a third party, one of those I trusted the most, only increased my nervousness.
- She…is she fine?
- Yes, she’s fine Owen… I haven’t stopped keeping an eye on her since you left as you asked me. Your return will however be a real shock. She’s been healing her pain for the past two years… she loved you really, you know…
The past that Nathan uses makes me tense despite myself, but I try not to pay too much attention to it. In two years, many things could have changed: for her, maybe I was just a memory…
- Just tell me, what do you hope by seeing her again? Why are you planning to see her again and come back to her life?
- I…I just hope to explain to her that I regret my decision…that this is the only outcome that I imagined, two years ago, I was not ready for anything else, unfortunately…that I blame myself for all this pain that I inflicted on her…
- And now are you ready for something else?
- Yes…beyond all that, I have this somewhat crazy hope, that she hasn’t forgotten me… that the feelings that you evoked are not completely extinguished…
I realize by expressing aloud my previously inner hopes that they may seem completely utopian…and at the same time, I’m in a state of mind to tell myself that I have nothing to lose.
I have already lost so much in the last two years.
I don’t want to have any more regrets, unanswered questions.
Even if I come out with a broken heart, I will know…I will have tried everything…to no longer live with these regrets and these doubts that consume me a little more every day.
- I hope the outcome will be happy for you Owen… but prepare yourself… the journey may still be difficult… and you risk suffering even more…
I nod, but my conviction is stronger than anything…a question burns me despite everything…
- Do you think it’s lost in advance… that I don’t stand a chance?
Nathan looks down as if to think, then quickly finds my pupils.
- I do not predict what may happen… I have never been good at guessing women's reactions, especially when it comes to love… he retorts, a smile in his voice.
I smile back, which relaxes me a bit, after these exchanges marked by a certain tension for me.
- How am I going to find her?
- She lives at an address that you know well…
He lets the mystery hover for a few seconds, before revealing the information I miss.
- Amelia returned to Madison Park… she had the house that was so dear to her rebuilt, as to foil the fate and misfortune that may have taken place there a few years ago.
The revelation made just now by Nathan leaves me wondering and admiring… she found the strength to start over in this place, which corresponded the most to a « home » which she missed so much during her childhood and adolescence. Her strength of character will always impress me… some things had not changed, and my hope is rekindled a little more.
- Good luck, Owen…
Nathan warmly shakes my hand, while placing his other hand on my shoulder.
- I hope happiness awaits you at the end of the road for both of you, you deserve it.
- Thanks for everything Nathan… sincerely…
--
Later in the night
--
The images from the talk with Nathan fulfill my expectations, shifting me from hope to despair.
Here I am again in Madison Park, a few steps from a house that crystallizes all my anguish but also my wishes. This evening in May is particularly sweet and brings back memories of times spent in the same neighborhood, a certain summer. I realize that in 3 months, it will be precisely 2 years since I left her life….that I officially died for her…
I get off my motorbike, the waiting motionless, sitting on my motorbike becoming unbearable. A glance at my watch reveals to me that it is 9 pm: I have already been waiting for an hour…the house remains desperately dark, with no sign of life.
Does Amelia have any commitments outside of Seattle?
Maybe I’m stupidly waiting for nothing and she won’t make an appearance tonight?
I doubt.
I hesitate.
The wait allowed me to observe the details of the house…it seems to have been rebuilt as faithfully as possible to the original building: the same porch with staircase and columns, same large windows to let in light. The only noticeable difference that I notice is the terrace which was built a little more in the corner and the back as if to be better protected from view and the outside.
--
The roar of an engine suddenly gets closer and I make out a taxi driving down the quiet street of this district of Madison Park until it stops in front of this house that I could have drawn with my eyes closed.
The beating of my heart activates immediately in a thousandth of a second.
Without thinking, like on autopilot, my legs start to move and slowly approach the house. I soon see a silhouette getting out of the car.
A female silhouette, dressed in a leather jacket, revealing a guitar bag on the back.
The detail confirms the identity of this young woman for good.
It’s her…she is there, a few meters from me.
My pace quickens as she climbs the steps to her front door. She looks for her keys in her bag for a few seconds, a reprieve that allows me to make up my delay and to place myself silently on the penultimate step of her porch.
I hear the clinking of her set of keys in her hand.
I take a deep breath, my heart seems ready to explode in my chest.
My lips finally let this name escape, which I have whispered every night for so long months while climbing the last two steps to find myself at her height.
- Good evening Amelia…
A metallic and muffled sound then rises.
My gaze catches the silver reflection of the keys on the ground, fallen a few centimeters behind her. The shock of my voice visibly made her escape from her hands.
Her back is still facing me. She stays motionless.
I recognize her silhouette much more precisely. The first detail that strikes me is her hair, which only reaches her shoulders…and this feeling that she is even more fragile and thin than before as if she had lost weight…
I perceive her hands to take place along her body.
Her left hand then starts to shake mechanically.
I speak again as gently as possible to dispel her anguish and shock.
- Amelia…calm down…I know it’s unbelievable at this moment…but it’s me…Owen…
I can see her breathing becoming more jerky and difficult as her shoulders and back jump slightly, and her strong, forced breath echoes up to my ears.
A little helpless in front of her paralysis, I immediately reveal the truth of the situation, the deception that I imagined.
- The truth is… it’s that I did not die at the Music Awards Evening…
Following these words, her body moves slowly in profile and she turns completely.
I discovered her for the first time of these long months, a few centimeters from me.
I recognize the details of her face, then discover this new haircut that looks great on her…but her eyes escape me as she keeps her gaze down. As if she refused to discover my image.
- What you saw almost two years ago… was a smokescreen…
An unexpected reaction then takes place before my eyes: she lifts her face in a sudden movement. But I hardly have time to discover her as a sharp and loud snap hits my right cheek. A slap where she seems to have put all her strength and anger. I close my eyes for a few moments in shock.
I hear her breathing still strong, but the rhythm is slightly different marked more by anger than fear.
I end up looking up and opening my eyes again.
She is there, in front of me, her eyes red and misted with tears. Her wide eyes reveal a vibrant intensity which studies me…observe me…almost rediscover me.
Her features are hard, her expressionless face. The reflection of hurt and shocked woman.
- I can’t go back, but…
- What are you doing here? She interrupts me, with a hint of aggression in her voice. Does your little smokescreen life no longer suit you? She continues with a touch of sarcasm, behind which however I perceive a sharp pain.
In the worst-case scenario I had imagined, I had not considered her first words to be so harsh and scathing…filled with blame and anger. Despite myself, I am destabilized by the turn of events. I was not prepared for this confrontation…for a meeting so fraught with tension.
A few seconds pass in an electric atmosphere.
I study her face, noticing a new emotion take place…anger gives way to pain.
And it is in a less assured and almost trembling voice that she takes the floor again.
- I can’t believe you staged your own death…after all that may have happened… all that I have been able to experience…
- I know it sounds completely illogical… and unforgivable, but just let me explain…
- It doesn’t matter, leave me alone…you are no longer part of my life… she whispers tiredly.
- Amelia, I understand the show this is for you, but…
Footsteps rise behind my back and a voice rings out, interrupting me in my explanations as a silhouette settles alongside Amelia.
- Amelia, everything is fine?
I recognize Andrew with surprise… and my eyes widen even more when I discover a baby, asleep in his arms.
Amelia silently nods to her question and stretches out her hands to take the baby.
She focuses on the arrival of Andrew and this toddler, behaving like I am no longer there.
I remain paralyzed in front of the scene and these exchanges, taken aback by the flow of information that accumulates and collides in my mind.
Andrew watches Amelia pick up the toddler, kiss his forehead, then finally turns his attention to me. I notice his feature wrinkle for a few seconds, then tighten as he recognizes me.
He observes me a little more intense but remains silent.
Amelia, the baby still in her arm, retrieves her keys from the ground and slips them into the lock.
The door creaks open and she steps into the house.
- Andrew…
A touch of exasperation and annoyance awakens in Amelia’s call, while Andrew remains as if fascinated by my presence.
- Yes, honey, I am coming, he finally responds by breaking the connection with my face and coming back in his turn.
The term of affection concludes to answer my questions and to tighten my heart a little more.
A heavy ebony door closes quickly and gradually in front of me while the gaze of the one, who has haunted my days and my nights so much, refuses me…ignoring me completely, as if to show me that I am only a memory for her… a forgotten past and that she does not want to relive.
Before the door closes completely, a few words reach me as the last connection with this woman whom I have betrayed and hurt deep inside.
- Goodbye, Owen…leave us alone.

could you write something about Amelia and Owen being friends again? after she tells Owen about the baby? thank you !
Happier
a/n: hi! sorry for the delay in posting, it’s been a weird week. i hope this is what you were looking for, it’s more of a long-term thing rather than a one moment fic.
------------------------------------------------------------
“Can you see if Amelia can take Leo?” Teddy moved to grab her phone, pulling up Amelia’s contact and sending a quick text.
“She’s not going to want to, Owen. He’s probably gonna get her sick from whatever Allison has.”
“Just ask, okay?” His girlfriend set down the phone before it buzzed. “Is that her?”
“She can take Leo, do you want her to stop by and pick him up?” Owen nodded, shifting the crying baby in his arms. Allison had come down with some bug and taking care of a sick baby was proving to be more work than either of them anticipated. Sure, Leo had gotten fevers when he was young, but even at the youngest Owen had known him, Leo was only six months old. “Okay, she says she’ll be here soon, she just has to put the car seat into Link’s car.”
“Link?”
“Her boyfriend, the one we work with?”
“I know who Link is, but is he gonna be with her and Leo?”
“I mean, probably. Is that an issue? Is Link a psychopath and I’m just not aware of this?” Teddy waited for him to respond, instead just watching as he rocked back and forth with the baby. “Owen?”
“Hm?”
“You’re being weird about Amelia and Link.” He shrugged his shoulders and sat down in the nursery chair. “For the record, I think he’s good for her. She looks really happy, and I know that you two have a lot of history, but you should try to be happy for Amelia.”
“They’re having a baby, her and Link.” The blonde woman raised her eyebrows at him and crossed her arms over her chest.
“Okay, so she’s moving on. Just try to be happy for her, Owen.”
------------------------------------------------------------
“He slept for most of the night. And we had Cheerios for breakfast, so he should be pretty easy for a while.”  Amelia handed over the small bag that he and Teddy had packed for Leo as Link walked up behind her.
“And here’s the little guy,” Link said excitedly, bouncing the boy on his hip. Owen took his son before smiling and rustling his hair.
“Thank you, again.” Amelia smiled.
“Of course. You guys can do it for us one day.” At her words, his eyes drifted down to look at her stomach, where her hand rested on her bump, which was more obvious than before. Silence settled between for a moment before Link wrapped his arm around Amelia’s waist.
“Well, we should probably get going, we have plans for lunch.” The couple said goodbye to Owen and headed back to their car. “That was painfully awkward,” Link commented, backing the car out of the driveway.
“He’s been weird ever since I told him about the baby. I wish that we could all just move on and be friends. I mean, he had a baby with Teddy and I was fine with that, why can’t he just be the same?” Link grabbed her hand over the console of the car.
“You weren’t so fine with it at first. Give him some time, he’ll come around.”
------------------------------------------------------------
Meredith’s hearing took longer than expected. Owen could swear he’d been sitting in the lobby waiting for at least the past 7 hours. Sure, he knew that legal processes took a long time and blah blah, but they’d already finished the hearings and now they were just waiting. Amelia, Link, and Teddy had returned a few minutes ago, sharing the news that Castello had died (something he thought Amelia seemed a little too excited about) and everyone had returned back to what they were doing before that. He sighed, checking his watch, hoping to make time speed up by any rate. Owen stood up and got himself another coffee, turning back around to the couch while taking a sip and sitting back down and engulfing his attention into his phone.
“Hey,” Amelia muttered, sitting on the couch across from him. “I feel completely dead.” Owen looked up and offered her a smile.
“I know. Are you going to stay until they have news?” Amelia nodded, adjusting the pillow behind her back.
“Yeah, Meredith drove me here, anyway. I was thinking about leaving with Link, but Meredith would pester me about it for the next few months, so we’re gonna stay. How about you?”
“Staying.” The two engaged in some small talk for the next few minutes before Link walked over, sitting down next to Amelia on the couch. Owen watched as the brunette smiled up at her boyfriend, and leaned her body against his.
“You look exhausted,” the orthopedic surgeon commented, wrapping an arm around her shoulder. “Do you wanna head out? I’m sure Meredith won’t hate you.”
“No, she’ll just leave me behind whenever we carpool to work. Although, who knows if that’ll be happening any more.” Owen raised his eyebrows.
“Really?”
“I’m just being honest here.” He couldn’t help but feel awkward as Link whispered something into her ear, emitting a laugh from her as she glanced up at her boyfriend, a large grin spread across her face.
------------------------------------------------------------
Link looked terrified. Frankly, Owen had just told him that parenthood was the most terrifying thing ever and he was just going to be more and more scared, which was not the response he was hoping for. Owen seemed to notice and let out a sigh. “It seems bad, but you’re going to be fine. I promise that everyone makes it sound more terrifying than it is.”
“Didn’t you just say-”
“Of course you’re going to be terrified, but once he’s born you’ll also be insanely happy. And everything will be perfect for a while.”
“I’m just worried about Amelia. She’s scared of what’ll happen and I know she’s still dealing with a lot of grief. From Christopher.” Link stopped as he handed the nurse the instrument he was using. “And with the extra stress from whatever’s happening with Richard, she’s pushing herself, and she doesn’t want any input from me, of course.” He looked up to see Owen standing still. “Sorry, I probably shouldn’t have said anything-”
“No, it’s okay. We’re all family now, right?” Link nodded.
“Right.”
------------------------------------------------------------
He had settled outside of their hospital room, hoping to take his mind off of the cancellation of his wedding, and probably the end of his relationship with Teddy. Amelia and Link were laying on the hospital bed with his arm wrapped around her while both of them were completely enamored by their son who was laying in her arms. Owen smiled softly, remembering when Allison had just been born and he was just as happy. It had only been a few months since that time, but he would do anything to get that happiness back. He didn’t want to interrupt their little bubble of happiness, even as much as he wanted to go in and hold the baby and share some of their happiness. He knew if he went in the room, they’d ask why he was at the hospital instead of getting married and he would have to explain everything. There’d be a time for that in the future.
He didn’t know how much time had passed, but eventually, Link stood up from the bed to rock the baby around. Amelia looked over and saw Owen standing outside of the window and waved to him. He waved back politely, noticing the smile on her face. She had rarely smiled like that while they were together and it was a smile he had just gotten to see more recently. She looked happy. Happier than he had ever seen her, and he was truly happy for her and Link. He knew that Link was good for her, better than he could be.
And that was it. It was suddenly that simple; she was happy and he was happy for her.

Just call me
Hey Omelia-Fans :-) After last weeks episode I got an idea for a new story, so here it is. I hope you´ll like it!!!
Warning: It deals with Amelia´s addiction.
“Amelia?”, Owen asked surprised as he opened the door with only a tshirt and boxer shorts on. He just had changed his clothes to go to bed until it knocked on the door. “I´m so sorry!”, Amelia said almost crying. “For what?”, Owen asked and tilted his head, “Come inside.” He laid his hand on her shoulder. “I don’t wanna bother you.”, Amelia said quietly. “You don’t. Come on…”, Owen replied worried by the look on her face. “What happened?”, he asked as soon as they had sat down. “I´m just…I…needed to see someone…well you.”, Amelia answered quietly. “Okay...Why?” Owen asked slowly. He knew her too well to not notice that something was going on. She didn’t answer and he decided to give her some time. She looked at Owen and he immediately saw guilt in her face. “I…am this close to taking drugs and I don’t know what to do about it.”, she said and smiled slightly to hide how hard it was for her to tell Owen about it. Owen froze for a second, just because he hadn´t expected that to be Amelia´s problem. “Yeah I know it is bad.”, Amelia said. “That’s not…Do you have drugs with you?”, he asked carefully. Amelia shook her head. “I…was just on my way. It´s crazy that I didn’t end up with that junky doctor.” She admitted, “I don´t know how I made it to your house.” Owen exhaled slowly, relieved that she apparently hadn´t taken any pills.   “I´m so so glad that you came here, Amelia.”, Owen said. She began sobbing and Owen wrapped his arms around her. He could imagine how hard it was to stay clean in this times and although the last time he saw her she seemed to be good, he knew that her history with addiction would always be there. “What do I do, Owen?”, Amelia asked when she had calmed down a little, “I can´t do this anymore. I have talked about it in meetings, I have talked to Link. Nothing helps.” “You came here instead of buying drugs. You resisted your desire for drugs. You are strong, Amelia.”, Owen said looking in her eyes. “I don’t know for how long I can keep going on like this. I fight my cravings since weeks and at first…I only thought about drugs at night,… then always when the kids weren´t there and now…I think about them all the time. Like now, I still think about them now…I can´t guarantee you I won´t just stand up, run away and get high.”, Amelia confessed. Owen didn’t know what to say. It was hard to hear her say that. “Okay, so let´s find out why.”, Owen said. “Why I want to get high? Isn´t that obvious…”, Amelia asked sceptically. “Well…let me rephrase that. Let´s talk about the things that are bothering you so much that you have to fight your addiction more than before. You might know the reasons for your cravings but let me guess, you never talked about it.” “How can I talk about it when every single minute there is a child around me.”, Amelia replied. “Soo...you ignore your feelings because you don´t want the kids to worry?”, Owen asked. “I don´t… Their mom is at the hospital since what…weeks? Months? Of course I don´t want them to worry.”, Amelia said frustrated. Owen smiled slightly. “What?”, Amelia asked. “That sounds like you.”, he answered, “You care so much about your friends and family. I always thought that. But don´t forget taking care of yourself.” Amelia looked at him with tears in her eyes. “I tried to. I told Link I was sad...I...He is like… happy all the time and it freaks me out! How does he do that? He plays his guitar and dances with the kids and sometimes I really enjoy it. Sometimes. And when I talked to him, he was caring and supportive, but...he didn´t get it.” “How about you tell me what you wanted to tell him.”, Owen proposed. “There is a global pandemic. People are sick, people are dying. Meredith is sick, and I thought she was dying too. And some people just make the whole thing worse by murdering other people. All I do right now is staying at home, receiving messages from Maggie about how Meredith isn´t improving, receiving messages from Tom about how many of our patients died that day, because either they got Covid or there wasn´t place for them in the ICU. And then I have to entertain the kids in order to not make them ask me when they can see their friends again and when their mother is finally coming home. Oh and every time I think I have just one minute of peace, Scout starts crying.”, Amelia opened up. Owen nodded slowly. “You don´t have time to process all the feelings, they build up and now you just want to numb yourself… I think I get it. Sometimes I feel like that too.” “But you don´t think about taking drugs.”, Amelia added. “No, I don´t.”, Owen said quietly. “So how do you process your feelings?”, Amelia asked. “Process is the wrong word. I don´t process them. But I accept them... It´s hard for all of us. We´re all sad and angry and the worst thing is that the quarantining makes us feel all alone. But we´re not... Let me tell you what happens if you take these drugs. You will get the high you think you need. You won´t feel all of the pain until the drug´s wearing off. You will remember all of the pain, you will feel guilty for taking the pills, for not being strong enough to resist and you will feel worse than before. You will take more drugs and more and more and more. But it will never make you feel better in the end. It will make you feel more alone. If you accept your feelings, in the end you will feel better. Because this pandemic will get better. There is and end. If you do drugs, there isn´t.” Amelia kept silent. He knew that she was thinking about the things he said and he hoped he got through to her. “It makes me crazy that we don´t know when all of this is gonna get better. We keep going on for days, weeks, months and everytime we think the worst part is over, boom, more deaths, more quarantining, more crime.”, Amelia said after a while. “I know. It´s scary.”, Owen replied, “Instead of doing weekly online meetings about how to improve digital technologies they should do weekly meetings about how to improve mental health.”  “Yeah that sounds reasonable.”, Amelia said. “Really, when I was in quarantine I found myself talking to my mirror image for like 15 minutes.”, Owen told her. Amelia chuckled. “Reminds me of Ellis, how she talks to a picture of a girl in the kitchen when nobody can play with her.” “Yeah but her doing that is sweet.”, Owen answered. Amelia laughed. “It is. She´s adorable. And Zola is just so smart and kind, and Bailey... is so funny. They have changed so much in the last few months. Even if I´m with them every day I notice that.” “And you would miss it if you...”, Owen started but knew he didn´t have to continue. Amelia nodded. “I think I came here because I knew inside that you were the only one who could stop me from buying these drugs.” Owen smiled. “What if I lose control?”, she asked. “Just call me. You can call anytime! I´m sure I have hundreds of reasons to convince you to stay clean. And I will tell you every single one of them if you need me to.”, Owen said. “Did I ever tell you how grateful I am to you.”, Amelia said, “Really… I don´t know how to thank you." “Just promise me that you´ll call.”, Owen said. She looked in his eyes and smiled slightly. “I promise!”

Nuptials Pt.4
Tuesday Night (Later)
“Shh!” Amelia hissed as she, Addison and Charlotte entered the house, “If you wake up Rosie, you guys have to deal with her.”
“I am an awesome god mother,” Addison assured the Shepherd, stumbling over the door mat as they came inside.
“Of course you are,” Charlotte laughed as she held Addison’s hand to prevent her from tripping over anything else. The two LA women settled on the couch while Amelia went to the kitchen to go get a glass of water for Addison. By the time she returned to the living room, there was another knock at the door.
“Delivery for Amelia Shepherd,” Amelia heard from the other side of the door, recognising the voice as Alex’s, “A freshly initiated future husband!”
“Freshly initiated?” she asked once she opened the door. On the other side were Derek and Alex, who had Owen’s arms thrown over their shoulders, and it looked like they were the only reason why Owen was standing up at all.
“Yes,” Alex confirmed, grinning mischievously, “His body has been cleansed and purified with spirits and now he is ready to marry you.”
Amelia shook her head and smiled as she looked at her drunken fiancé. “You can put him on the couch.” Alex stumbled past her with Owen, Derek following close behind.
“And I’m going to assume you are also drunk?” she accused her brother as she followed the trio.
“De Luca is driving,” he confirmed, plopping down on the couch and briefly greeting Addison, only to realise she was fast asleep.
“I am,” Andrew confirmed as he came into the house. He sat next to Derek, leaving no space for Amelia to sit now.
“Come sit on my lap,” Owen flirted, patting his thigh, “I haven’t seen you allllll night.”
“How about I get you guys some water?” Amelia suggested instead, winking at him.
“Actually, we were about to leave,” Derek said, eyeing Alex and Andrew.
Getting the message, Alex commented, “Yeah, I have to get home before Jo’s shift starts.”
“And I have an early shift tomorrow,” Andrew also lied, standing up.
“We should also be heading in,” Charlotte added, catching on to what was going on, “Jake and Coop are coming in tomorrow.”
“Well, goodnight everyone,” Derek waved the ladies and Owen.
“Bye,” Amelia called, still in the kitchen. Once they’d left, and Addison and Charlotte ventured up to their guest bedroom, Owen slowly made his way into the kitchen.
“Did you have fun tonight?” Amelia teased, sensing his presence behind her.
“If you’re asking if I was forced to drink and get egged by the guys for being whipped by you,” Owen briefly described, “Then yes, I did have fun.” As he leaned against the table and watched her move around the kitchen, a question floated into his mind. “Hey, did you have strippers at your thing?”
Amelia laughed softly as she fetched the bread from the fridge, followed by cheese and mayo. “I did, actually.” When she saw his frown of disapproval, she got concerned. “What?”
“Nothing,” he assured her, “It’s just that I owe Karev $500. I betted against you having strippers at your thing.”
“Were there strippers at your party?” she teased, cutting the crust off the bread.
“No,” he answered honestly, “Not sure if that’s a good or bad thing, but Karev seemed torn up about it.” He moved closer to her, standing behind her as he inhaled the scent of her hair. Lazily, he wrapped his arms around her waist as he watched her make the sandwich.
“What did they make you drink?” she inquired, able to clearly smell the alcohol still on his breath. One of his hands made its way to her ass, squeezing it eagerly.
“I don’t know, they didn’t tell me,” he replied, lowering his face to her ear so that he could kiss it. Amelia smiled and shied away from his ticklish touch, trying to focus on the task in front of her.
“There, done,” she said, turning around in his arms to hand the plate to him. Owen took the plate and set it to the side, before lifting her up onto the counter.
“Are you crazy?” she hissed at him, although there was a playful smile on her face.
“I’m drunk, actually,” he responded, not realising the question was rhetorical, “They won’t hear us.”
“I’m almost certain they will,” she giggled as his lips teased her neck, “You get pretty loud when you’re drunk.”
“I promise I’ll be quiet,” he assured her, already shrugging off his leather jacket, “You can stuff a cloth in my mouth.”
“I’m not going to stuff a cloth in your mouth!” she exclaimed as he already pulled his jersey over his head.
“You’ve done it before,” he teased, running his hands along the seam of her dress.
“Fine,” she relented, making it sound like it was a task, although he knew how completely off he was, “But you have to eat my sandwich, and bleach your mouth of all that alcohol.” He stopped, looking her in her eyes as he weighed his choices. “I’m not kissing you if you’re going to taste like a vodka factory,” she added.
“I know of plenty other things we can do that don’t require kissing,” he suggested. Before she could counter his argument, she felt his fingertips run up her thigh, lifting the dress to scrunch at her waist.
“You are not serious right now!” Amelia laughed as he kissed the inside of her upper thigh, beginning to draw circles with his tongue.
He paused, eyeing her directly. “Very serious.”
---
Amelia sighed as she drew shapes on his chest, her mind on so many things, yet nothing.
“Something wrong?” Owen asked, sensing her distress.
“Not really,” she answered, resting her hand flat on his chest now.
“Are you nervous about the wedding?” he asked, trying to fish for answers. He knew she’d never openly talk about what was bothering her, meaning he’d have to ask it out of her to find out what was going on inside her mind.
“Aren’t you?” she countered, resting her chin on his chest to look at him.
He smiled as he looked back at her; so it was the wedding that she was worried about. “I’m more nervous about meeting your family, your sisters specifically.”
“Thank you for increasing my anxiety,” she sarcastically said, lying beside him and staring up at the ceiling.
Owen propped himself up on his elbow and looked down at her blue eyes, that were darting all over. “Hey, what’s really bothering you?” When she didn’t answer, he further questioned, “Are you having second thoughts or something?”
“No,” she replied, although it was partly a lie, “It’s just that...marriage is supposed to be forever.”
“Yeah, that’s the idea,” he agreed, not sure where she was going with this.
“Do you really believe that?” she wondered aloud, “That it’s forever? That we’ll last forever?”
Owen frowned. “I guess I have to believe it.” He moved a strand of hair out of her face as he asked, “Do you believe it?”
“I don’t know.” Her response hurt him.
Owen lay back down, staring at the ceiling now too. “Do you want to cancel the wedding, then?”
“What?” she exclaimed, sitting up as she held the blanket to her chest, “No!”
“Then what do you want?” he asked, sitting up too. She was being too confusing.
“I want you to tell me that we’re making the right choice!” she told him, frustrated and hurt that he would ever suggest such a thing like that, “That we’ll be happy and married forever, and we won’t get divorced or I won’t get hit by a bus or something.” Owen chuckled at her statement, infuriating her more. “It’s not funny!”
“You’re not gonna get hit by a bus, Amelia,” he continued to chuckle.
“You don’t know that!” she insisted, “Look at all the terrible things that happened to us before we were married.”
“I think only one seriously bad thing has happened,” he mused, “The drowning in the cold thing.”
“And the overdose thing,” she reminded him, “And your PTSD thing. Not to mention the unexpected baby thing.”
“You mean Rosie?” he sought to confirm, “The light of my life?” A small smile tugged at the corner of her lips, begging to be seen.
“Amelia,” he sighed, putting his arm around her and pulling her close to him, “What do you want me to say? That we shouldn’t get married because we’re bad luck for each other?”
“I don’t know what I want you to say,” she honestly said, bringing a hand to his cheek, “I’m just scared.”
“I think that’s good,” he reassured her, “It means you have something to lose.” She didn’t seem very reassured, so he added, “I’m not marrying you just because we had an ‘oops’ baby.” She looked up at him, so much vulnerability in her eyes. “If I remember correctly, I proposed before you told me you were pregnant.”
“I think I’m just waiting for the other shoe to drop,” she further explained herself, “I’ve never been happy for this long, without something horrible happening.”
Owen smiled and held her closer, slowly laying the both of them back down on the bed. “You’ll make yourself miserable thinking about ‘what ifs’.”
“I can’t help it,” she sighed, snuggling into his chest and closing her eyes, “I’m bad luck.”
“Perhaps,” he thought. He looked down at her and noticed that her eyes were closing, her eyelashes fluttering as she struggled to stay awake. Kissing her forehead, he played with her hair, knowing the action would calm her down and, eventually, put her to sleep. “But you’re the best kind of bad luck, in my opinion.”
“Wow, really,” she scoffed nonchalantly. Owen chuckled.

Broken family
This prompt takes place 4 years later Leo in now 5 years old and in school. In his class they are talking about Family and this make Leo very sad and upset.
“Bye bud I’ll see you later okay,” Owen said hugging the small child in front of him.
Leo gave him a small smile and walked in the classroom. Once in the classroom Leo immediately put his things away and took his seat.
“Well good morning class,” Leo’s Teacher Mrs. Gilbert says. Leo and the rest of his classmates say good morning back.
“Alright class today we’re going to talk about our families,” Mrs. Gilbert said.
Leo looked around the classroom to see all the kids smiling because they get to talk about their families. While Leo in the other hand isn’t so excited about this subject so he decides to lay his head down on the desk. He loves his mom and dad butHe really didn’t want to talk about his family.
“Alright kids we’re going to going in order so Sarah you’ll go first,” Mrs. Gilbert said calmly.
A couple of kids went and Leo just sat back and listened to how perfect and happy their families sounded and he wished for that. He couldn’t remember the time he had a perfect happy family like theirs. After a while it was finally Leo’s turn to talk about his family.
“Okay Leo it your turn,” The teacher said.
“Well my family isn’t perfect or happy like you guys. I live with my dad for the most part I have two little siblings a sister and a brother. My sister stays with her mom I see her every other week and my brother stays with our mom and his dad I see them every once in a while. My mom is happy I guess I don’t know about my dad. But when I was a baby we used to have a perfect happy family but that didn’t really last very long and my parents broke up. I wish it could be like that again,”Leo said with tears in his eyes that he was trying to hold back the best he could.
Leo quietly walked back to his seat and put his head. He let the tears roll out of his eyes but didn’t make any noise so no one would know he was crying. Through out the day Leo kept to himself now it was time to go. All of the other kids parents came earlier than Leo’s which is normal he is so used to it now. So Leo was just sitting at his desk drawing in his notebook with Amelia walked in smiling.
Amelia walked up to Leo while he was still looking down at his notebook and tapped him on the shoulder and he looked up at her with a straight face. Amelia had a confused look on her face because she was expecting a different reaction from him he usual is so smiley but he wasn’t today. She knew something was up because Leo was always so happy to see her.
“Hey Lion I decided to surprise you and come get you from school today,” Amelia said rubbing her fingers through his soft curls and calling him by his nickname she had been calling him since he was a baby. Leo nodded his head and got up to get his things. Amelia was really surprised at how he was acting that’s when Leo’s teacher walked up to her.
“Leo had a not so good day today,” Mrs.Gilabert said.
“Why what happened?” Amelia said worried cause she never seen her little happy boy like this ever.
“Well today in class we talked about our families and this subject upsetted Leo. I think you and his father should have a talk about this,” Mrs. Gilbert said.
After Leo finished gathering his thing and putting them on he went to Amelia and stood by her. She gently grabbed his hand and left out of the school.
Once they got to the car Amelia buckled Leo into his car seat then got the car. During the drive Leo didn’t say anything Amelia look back at him in the rear view mirror and he was looking out the widow silently.
“Lion I heard you and your classmates talked about your families today and this upsetted you. Why did this you upset baby?” Amelia asked and Leo just looked at her and didn’t respond.
After a couple of minutes of driver they were at Mer’s house. Amelia unbuckled Leo from his seat belt and grabbed his bag and walked to the door to unlock it. As soon as she unlocked it Leo dashed into the house. Amelia let out a sigh and sat down the couch.
While Amelia was relaxing on the couch Maggie walked through the front door. Amelia quickly popped up and smiled at Maggie not a happy smile but a more disappointed one. Maggie took off her jacket and hung it up then went to go take a seat next to Amelia.
“What’s wrong I can see it all over your face,” Maggie said in a comforting voice.
“It’s Leo he had a bad day at school they were talking about their families today and this subject really upsetted him and he wouldn’t tell me why nor will he talk to me at all and I don’t know what to do,” Amelia sighed and rubbed her hand down her face.
“I don’t know what to say but how about I try talking to him? And you try talking to his father about this?” Maggie said and Amelia nodded her head.
“Where is he?” Maggie asked getting up.
“He’s upstairs probably with bailey,” Amelia said.
After an hour Maggie walked back downstairs and sat next to Amelia.
“I talked to him about what made him upset today but he doesn’t want me to tell you because he doesn’t want to hurt your or Owen’s feeelings,” Maggie said put her hand on Amelia’s shoulder.
“How about you go upstairs and try talking to him again,” Maggie said giving Amelia a comforting look.
Amelia nervousnessly got up from where she was sitting and walked upstairs to where Leo was. He was sitting in Amelia’s bed hugging his stuffed dog her and Owen had bought him when he was a baby. He had head behind the dog so she couldn’t see his face. She calmly walked over to the bed and took a seat next to him. She softly placed her hand on his back but he didn’t move at all. So Amelia picked him up and placed him in her lap like she always used to do. She softly ran her fingers through his curls and swayed back and forth slowly.
“Leo can we please talk about what upset you today in class? I would really like to know I promise me or your father won’t be upset.” Amelia said rubbing his back Leo slowly lifted his head and looked at Amelia but still didn’t say anything.
“You know I love you so much Lion please talk to me,” Amelia pled once again.
Leo finally decided to her what upsetted him today. Leo explained to her how all the kids in his school had these perfect happy families and he didn’t. He told her he felt sad that he barely get to see her anymore. He told everything about he felt about their family situation.Amelia frowned she didn’t know Leo felt like that and felt sad that he felt that way.
“Lion why haven’t you told this is how you felt? We never want you to feel like this. I promise mommy and your daddy will fix it,” Amelia said hugging him tight.
After a couple hours Amelia was laying in the bed with Leo asleep in her arms. She softly laid him under the covers and slowly slid out of the bed. Amelia slowly left out the room and closed the door quietly. She quickly grabbed her to call Owen. She called Owen after the third ring Owen picked up the phone.
“Hello Amelia I’m still at work I come get Leo as soon as I get off,” Owen spoke tiredly.
“No O I didn’t call about that I’m calling to tell you about Leo’s day at school,” Amelia said.
“What happened is he okay?,” Owen said panicking.
“He is okay now but he got really upset at school today when they were talking about their families. I think I should get Leo every other week like you get Alison because he feels like every since we have kids with other people we forgot about him and he didn’t even get to enjoy us long enough,” Amelia said sadly.
“I just want him to be happy. He never knew he felt like that I knew he missed you but I never thought about how everything changed so quickly would affect him in the long run.” Owen said.
Sorry guys I haven’t posted in a while here’s a story I been thinking about writing for a while because everything Krista has done. I don’t how long I’ll keep this up cause I want to rewrite it. And sorry for any spelling errors I did this quickly

Grew Up Too Fast   Chapter 1: Scout's first day of High School
It was typical Monday morning for Ameila and Link but they were heartbroken realizing that Scout Eric Shepherd Lincoln was now in high school. They love Scout very much but can't wrap it around their heads how their son grew up so fast. Scout is now 15 and is a freshmen. They didn't know where all those years went.
"Good Morning Momma." Charlotte said. "Good Morning Charlie, where is your brother?" Amelia asked. "Um I don't know maybe with Gary or Terry what ever his friends names are." Charlie said. "Oh Charlie how did your big brother grow up too fast on us." Amelia said. "I don't know you still have me, Luke, and Elena to play with." Charlie said. "For a 10 year old you sure are funny." Amelia said. "Good Morning mom so what's for breakfast?" Scout asked. "Scout the bus will be here in 5 minutes why aren't you dressed?" Link asked. "Dad aren't you taking me to school it used to be a tradition you and mom used to do." Scout said. "Well Scout you are in High School now and you don't need us to hold your hand anymore." Amelia said.
It broke her heart to tell her son that she couldn't take Scout to school because he was now in High School. She wanted to but High School is no place for a 10 year old, 6 year old, and 3 year old to be. She knew that it was for the best to give Scout the room to grow without Link and herself holding his hand for major milestones. As much as she hated the idea she knew that it was the best for Scout otherwise she knows what he would be like when he is older always wanting approval of his parents.
"Good Morning Amelia so today's Scout's first day of High School how did he take it?" Teddy asked. "Umm I don't know I put him on the bus to give him some indepedence." Amelia said. "Don't worry he's going to do great things in High School." Teddy said. "Yes I just hope he doesn't get into trouble with the ladies especially Allison." Amelia said. "Well Amelia he is a boy and he loves Ally but I agree he's what 15 he doesn't need that right now." Teddy said. "Well something I don't have to worry about because Ellis is a sophmore in college." Meredith said. "How does it seem possible?" Amelia asked. "I know, Zola graduates from Med School this year." Meredith said. "Really? what is she going to be studying?" Amelia and Teddy asked. "She's in the Neuro program and is in the excelled Medical program she may start her intership next year in California or even here in Seattle." Meredith said. "Wow and isn't little Bailey a Senior in College?" Link asked. "Yes he's studying to be a teacher." Meredith said.
Amelia couldn't believe that Zola, Ellis and Bailey were already in college and that they had grown up right under her nose. She loved those two to no end but couldn't imagine that. At lunch she got a call from Scout asking if he could stay after school to talk to the guidance counselor, and to sign up for a program that he can embrace his talents on. Link and Amelia told him that they would pick him up. He told them that he would just catch a ride with Leo, and Allison to the hospital. They agreed to let him come with Leo and Allison.
"What's wrong Amelia." Link asked. "Just that our son is dating my exhusband's daughter." Amelia said. "I know but Allison is good to him unlike some of the other kids he hangsout with." Link said. "Yes oh is it 3 I got to get Charlie, Luke, and Elena off of the bus because it is going to be here soon." Amelia said. "Honey Charlie is 10 so I think she can handle bringing Luke, and Elena into either my office or your office." Link said. "Amelia you are being paged into the pit." Bailey said. "Oh Atticus you might want to come as well." Bailey said. "Scout what happend?" Link asked. "Car accident dad is Ally okay?" Scout kept asking. "She's okay Scout just a broken leg, and possible fractures in her wrist, she needs and x-ray." Link told his son. "NO she can't have an X-Ray will it hurt the baby?" Scout said. "BABY?" Scout said. "Yes will it hurt her baby. She hasn't told Owen or Teddy yet it was an accident that happend when she was away during the summer." Scout said. "Scout whose the father?" Amelia asked. "I don't know." Scout said.
Amelia didn't know what to say to her son who she beleived was lying to her. Scout had never in his days lied to either Link or Amelia. He was always a good boy. Amelia could tell that he was lying and that he know who the father was. Allison and Scout are 7 months apart in age and in the same grade so she knew that something must of happend. When Scout was released from the hospital Amelia and Link took their 4 children to their home.
"Mommy can I please be excused?" Charlie asked. "No you may not you know something too young lady." Amelia said in anger. "Daddy what's this about." Charlie asked. "Momma is Charlie and Scout in trouble?" Asked Luke. "Yes why don't you go play in your room Luke." Amelia said. "Elena honey you can go play with your dollys." Link said. "Okay Charlotte Elizabeth Lincoln what is the truth do you know who Allison is having a child with?" Amelia asked. "What Ally is pregnant?" Charlie responded. "You didn't know?" Amelia and Link asked. "No! Mom and Dad it's not Scout's that's impossible he has been home all summer with Terry Gary, and Jerry playing basketball and doing boy stuff while she was away at summer camp." Charlie said. "See mom I was telling you the truth I don't know who the father is nor do I want to face that person who knocked up my girlfriend." Scout said. "Scout language around your sister." Link said. "Oh Dad I have heard worse." Charlie said.
Amelia and Link puzzled themselves as to who it could be and why Allison would do that to Scout who she claims to love. Amelia went into Scout and Luke's bedroom to appologize for saying those things to Scout. He said that she was just doing her job protecting her children. Amelia loves her son so much that she would throw herself infront of a moving bus if it meant losing one of them. She already lost Chris who would be a 23 year old and quite possibly make Amelia a grandma by now.
A/N: So here is a new story I wanted to write about how Amelia and Link would react to their son being a teenager and the drama that can come with it. Also the story behind Allison will get interesting, and how Teddy, and Owen will react to the news. Also there will be more story with Elena, Luke, and Charlie in this chapter we only see them for a breif segmient but they will have more story line in the upcoming chapters. I hope you guys enjoyed this chapter and the start of this story. Please feel free to request anything you would like to see in this story.

“Dr. Shepherd?”
Amelia turned around and faced Cross, who looked more confused than usual. His blond hair was sticking up in various positions, none of which were making him look like a competent doctor capable of saving lives. Amelia prayed that the next words out of his mouth were not I’m on your service today, in which case she might actually cry on the spot. Nevertheless, she plastered on a fake smile to hide her growing disdain for the man’s existence.
“What’s up Cross?”
“You need to go to the on-call room,” he spat out. “Now.”
Amelia furrowed her eyebrows and smirked. She couldn’t believe that any intern, let alone Cross was ordering her around like that. She let a laugh of disbelief escape her lips as she responded.
“Cross in what world do you think you can te-“
“It’s Dr. Hunt.”
Amelia’s smile fell from her face as quickly as it had appeared. She set her Surface down before sprinted to the on-call room, her mind playing out a thousand scenarios about what she would find when she opened the door.
Is he sick? Probably not, he looked fine this morning
Is he horny? Always a possibility, but not a situation he would get Cross involved in.
Is he upset? Did he lose a patient?
She could hear Owen before she even opened the door.
He was pacing from one side of the room to the other in the darkness, shaking his hands down by his sides and muttering something Amelia couldn’t make out under his breath. Slowly, she began walking over, making sure not to startle him.
“Owen,” she whispered. “Owen it’s me, it’s Amelia.”
Owen didn’t acknowledge her, instead, he kept pacing, completely oblivious to her presence and letting the sounds of his erratic breathing be his response. His chest was heaving wildly as beads of sweat dripped down his temples and onto his shirt. The wringing of his hands was becoming increasingly faster as his breathing was becoming more and more of a wheeze and less of a breath.
There is no way he’s getting enough air. Amelia thought to herself.
“How can I help O?”
“You can’t help him. No one can help him, he’s dead.” “Owen no one’s dead, do you know where you are?”
“He’s dead, I- I killed him.” Owen finally stopped pacing and looked at his hands, his eyes widening in fear as tears began flowing down his cheeks. “I killed him, I killed him.” He repeated between gasps.
“Here, come sit down.” Amelia coaxed. Owen ignored her again, his shoulders rising up and down as he began to hyperventilate even more. “I k-killed him.”
“Breathe, breathe, you’re okay. You’re safe, everyone’s safe.” Amelia moved in closer to him, close enough to feel the heat radiating off his body as she ran her hand up and down his back, hoping to ground him, or at the very least calm him down enough so he could take a damn breath.
Owen shook his head. “He was right there and I just…” he paused for a moment. “I just let him die.” His voice cracked as he finished his sentence, and a new stream of tears began flowing down his face, staining the neckline of his shirt.
Amelia wrapped him in her arms, holding him tight against her small frame as he shook. “Breathe.” She whispered in his ear. Owen couldn’t hug her back, so they stood there, in the middle of a dark on-call room, with Amelia holding tight onto his shaking body, and Owen’s arms dangling limply at his side.
When his breathing finally started to slow, Amelia led him by the hand to the bottom bunk and sat him down. She untied his shoes and wiped his forehead and cheeks with the edge of her lab coat.
“Do you want some water?”
Owen looked up at her for the first time, finally registering her presence.
“I- sorry what?” he asked, completely disoriented. The last thing he remembered was walking into the on-call room because he needed a break from the ER. He had no recollection of anyone coming in or sitting down. And he definitely didn’t know why he felt so hot.
Relief flooded through Amelia’s body as she heard Owen’s voice. He sounded much more lucid then he had just moments ago.  She studied him and found that his eyes had finally lost the glossed over look they had had for the past half hour.
“I said do you want some water?”
“No, I’m good.”
Amelia nodded, just being thankful he was finally breathing normally.
“What happened?” Owen asked.
Amelia crouched down in front of him and took his hands in hers, running her thumb over his wedding ring.
“You had a PTSD flashback,” she started, “A bad one.”
Owen nodded, still not remembering. “You were pacing and having trouble breathing which is why you might feel a little tired or light-headed right now, but you're okay. Everything is fine.”
Owen looked at the ground in embarrassment. He hated when that happened. He hated when Amelia saw him like that, and he especially hated when she had to take time out of her day to babysit him.
“Sorry.” He muttered, biting his lower lip as to not let anything else out. It appears he had already done enough damage; he didn’t need to cry on top of it.
“Owen no,” Amelia said firmly. “Look at me.”
Owen shook his head, not wanting to let Amelia see that despite his greatest efforts his eyes were watering, and his lip was trembling and there was nothing he could do to make it stop.
“Look at me.” She ordered.
Owen obeyed and cast his teary gaze up to her.
“You do not get to apologize for this, you hear me? This is not your fault, and it sure as hell isn’t in your control.”
“But I wasted your time…” he mumbled miserably.
“Owen, do I look mad?”
Owen shook his head, too afraid to say anything else in case he broke down again.
“You are never a waste of time, okay? You can always call me if you’re scared or sad or angry or happy or anything and I will be there, no questions asked.”
The smallest smile found its way onto Owen’s lips as he realized how goddamn lucky he was.
“Okay,” he said softly
“Okay.”

Chapter 14
Masterpost
Anyway enjoy  xxx Amelia slept for a few hours, having slept for a long time on their journey. She opened her eyes and found Evelyn awake too, sitting up against the base of the couch, where Nina slept. She felt Amelia’s eyes on her and met them, smiling tiredly.
“Can’t sleep?” Evelyn asked her quietly. Amelia shook her head, pushing herself up, leaning on her arm. “Want to come sit with me?” Evelyn asked and Amelia nodded, shuffling to the end of the mattress and shifting on to her hands and knee’s crawling carefully across the short distance between them. She settled down on a cushion beside Evelyn and sighed softly. Evelyn took Amelia’s hand and held it tightly. They sat in silence, watching the candles flickering light.
“Owen and I….” Amelia began, she looked down at herself. “We should have been more careful, I…. feel so guilty…” She stopped, pressing her lips together tightly, frowning.
“I feel so guilty for bringing a baby into this” she said, tears dropping from her eyes, landing in dark circles on her bump. She shook her head and squeezed her eyes shut.
“Oh Amelia, I know, I know” Evelyn smiled sadly, curling her arm around Amelia, pulling her into a hug. “You mustn’t think that way, this baby will be happy, and loved, and protected, just as she would if the circumstances were different” Evelyn soothed her hand against Amelia’s back.
Amelia nodded slightly, “It’s just, its not fair, I hate that we can’t give them a normal life”
“We’ll find somewhere safe, we’ll grow food, she won’t know any different, it will be okay” Evelyn said holding Amelia tightly. They sat quietly. Eventually Amelia sighed, sniffling, relaxing further into Evelyn’s embrace, it reminded her of her mom’s.
“You think the baby is a girl?” Amelia asked, fiddling with the fabric of Evelyn’s sleeve.
“I do, the way you’re carrying, and I always guess right” Evelyn said, brushing the hair from Amelia’s forehead, letting Amelia relax into her lap. She gently played with her hair with one hand, and rest her other against the side of her bump. Amelia closed her eyes, the comfort of the situation, overwhelming her.
“Why couldn’t you sleep?” Amelia asked,
“I slept in the truck on the way too, are you feeling better?”
Amelia hummed, “yeah, I do, I hope it was just a bug or something. I just want to feel okay, normal. Though I don’t think I’ll be feeling ‘normal’ for a long time”
“I don’t think any of us will sweetie, we’ll find a new normal,  hopefully you’ll feel better soon… I had sickness and nausea until six months with Megan”
“Maybe it’s Owen’s genes then”
“Did your mom ever tell you about her pregnancies?”
“No… it never really came up”
“They say the more kids you have, the easier the pregnancies get”
“This is my second…” Amelia found herself saying, Evelyn’s hand stilled briefly. “I had a baby when I lived in LA, he was born without a brain and… He died”
“Oh Amelia, I’m sorry to hear”
“It’s okay, it’s okay”
“You know I had a stillborn, long before Owen and Megan were born, until then, I didn’t know pain like that existed… I didn’t think I could survive, but… I did, and when I had Owen, the pain... it didn’t have as great a hold on me. I could see my baby, my first baby, in him, then in Megan, I still do” Amelia smiled softly, casting her gaze across the room, at Megan, and at her husband, both sound asleep.
“Is the baby normally more active at night?”
“Mostly when I’m awake, and lying down. Makes falling asleep difficult, I think she settles as soon as I drift off.”
Evelyn’s hand splayed against Amelia’s stomach and Amelia closed her eyes. “Do you need to lie down?” Amelia asked, realising that she was falling asleep. Evelyn shook her head, “no dear, I’m comfortable enough here. I don’t feel like sleeping anyhow.”
She continued threading her fingers through Amelia’s hair. Amelia sighed.
---------------------------------
When Owen awoke, it was daylight. He felt immediate anxiety at the realisation that Amelia wasn’t in bed beside him. That anxiety immediately faded when he saw her with his mom. They were both asleep. Evelyn was reclined against some pillows against the base of the couch, with her legs outstretched. Amelia lie with her head resting in Evelyn’s lap.  A woolen blanket curled around them, keeping them both warm.
Megan and Richard were awake, sitting with the children, all of them eating sandwiches. Nina was sat up on the couch, with her arms wrapped around her legs, eyes fixed on the grey sky through the window. Arizona and Alex were both still asleep, or appeared to be.
Wind rattled the single paned window, and whistled through the cracks in the wooden frame. Amelia shrugged at the wind in her sleep and pulled the blanket up to her shoulder. Evelyn opened her eyes, looking down first, at Amelia, pulling the blanket up further over her shoulder, stroking her hair back. Owen found himself smiling, seeing his mom care so lovingly for Amelia warmed his heart.
Evelyn looked up, meeting his eyes. “She woke up last night, I was already awake, I couldn’t sleep”
“You’re both okay?” Owen asked, and Evelyn nodded, looking back to Amelia, soothing her hand against her shoulder. Amelia pouted, furrowing her brows. Owen knew she was waking up. “Hopefully no morning sickness today” Owen said, crossing the room, dropping down onto the empty mattress in front of Amelia and Evelyn.
Amelia opened her eyes, closing one and peering up at Owen. He smiled, “he.y”
Amelia closed her eyes again and groaned with exertion as she sat up. She looked around, forgetting, for a moment, where she was. “Hi…”
“Are you alright?” Evelyn asked, folding her arms. Amelia nodded sharply, twisting so that she too leant against the couch base, feet outstretched towards Owen. Owen wrapped his hands around her feet and pressed the pads of his thumbs into her arches. “How are you feeling?” Owen asked, running his eyes over her. She inhaled deeply.
“Okay” she said, nodding, looking to Owen hands as they moved around her feet, “I feel okay, tired”
“Hungry?”
“Sure” Amelia replied, smiling warmly. Owen nodded, looking to his mom.
“Mom?”
“Please”
Owen looked to Richard, “I think we’re just doing sandwiches, that alright?”
The two women nodded, and pulled in their feet so that Owen could walk around them.
“I need to pee” Amelia said, looking behind her to check she wouldn’t be hitting Nina as she got herself up.
She met Owen’s gaze at the door, just as she pulled the chair away from the handle. He smiled warmly, acknowledging her.
-----------------------------------
The hall was illuminated by the light of day, and it looked entirely different than it had when they’re arrived in the night. There were pictures on the walls, of a family. Amelia moved along the hall slowly, running her eyes across the images, there were light patches on the walls where it looked as if picture frames had once sat.
At the end of the hallway shoes were strewn around the floor; a man’s, a women’s, and a small girls. Amelia cast her eyes back at the pictures. They had a baby, maybe a year old. Looking back down at the shoes, she moved forward and lifted the lid of a large wicca box, and found more shoes. A tiny red shoe, just longer than the length of her thumb sat in the corner. A heat overwhelmed her and she took in a sharp breath, leaning down and picking it up. Holding it in both of her hands. She looked back to the pictures.
Owen’s voice shook her from her thoughts, he called her name. She looked down at the shoe, and Owens hand cupped hers. Ray and Ellis moved around her and she could see them peering about, at the shoe in her hand, and then at the shoe box. Their energy was contagious, they were giggling, and nattering away. Ray, saw the other red shoe and gave it to Ellis, telling her to “Give it to Meelie.” Their exchange brought a smile to Amelia’s face.
Ellis waddled towards Amelia, singing, “Meelie, mommy” holding the shoe up to Amelia. Amelia’s smile faltered slightly, as did Owens, but they both recovered quickly. “Present” she said, handing it to Amelia with a big smile.
“Thank you baby” Amelia said, taking the shoe. Ellis reached up for Amelia as soon as the baby shoe left her tiny hand, wanting to be carried. Amelia instinctively bent to pick her up, but Owen got to her first, lifting her the majority of the way and placing her into Amelia’s arms, saving his wife’s back.
“Maybe, we could... Keep these shoes?” Amelia asked Owen, feeling suddenly exposed. Owen smiled, looking to the shiny red shoes. He nodded, and leant in to kiss her, taking the shoes into his hands. “Alright Ellis bear, will you look after uncle Owen for me while I go pee? He gets awful lonely” Amelia said, speaking into Ellis’ ear as if it were a secret between them. Ellis turned her head, looking to Owen, who pulled a sad face, bottom lip rolling. Ellis grinned and lolled backwards, reaching out for Owen to take her.
Ray stayed behind, looking down at all the shoes. “The little girl who left here, looks to be the same size Ray, you want to see if there’s a good pair of boots?”
“What if they come back to look for them?”
“They won’t, because she’ll have taken yours from your house, it’s like a swap” Amelia said, hoping the family were alive somewhere, and not gnawing at dead flesh out in the woods. Ray twisted her lips, gazing down, considering Amelia’s words. “Maybe there’ll be some comfier shoes you could wear too?” Ray shrugged, looking around. Amelia nodded, her smile reaching her eyes.
“Have a look for me, I’ll look with you in a minute”
“Can we talk through the door, I don’t want to be on my own”
“I’ll leave it open a little if you promise to guard the door for me” Amelia suggested, slowly moving past Ray into the toilet. Ray nodded sharply, pulling the bathroom door too, open a gap.
--------------------------------
“Here, sit down” Ray directed Amelia to a chair she had dragged into the hall. Amelia allowed her to pull her towards it, and sat down. “I’m alright Ray, I don’t actually need to sit down?”
“Well…” Ray, lowered herself onto the floor amongst all the shoes she had pulled from the box. Amelia frowned curiously, taking in the little girl’s worried expression. “What is it Ray?”
“I think… well… you have a baby in your tummy… and everything is too dangerous, and I heard Owen talking to Nina in the van… and you weren’t well”
Amelia’s face morphed to one of sudden understanding.
“You had that big fight when you got me… and you almost died, and I don’t want you to get hurt, you or the baby… So I just…” she looked up, spanning her gaze around Amelia, and at the chair.
“Oh Ray, Come here” Amelia said, reaching out her hands.  Ray climbed to her feet and moved to Amelia, who held both of her hands. Ray pouted, keeping her gaze from Amelia’s, staring pointedly at Amelia’s stomach instead. “Ray, back then… I wasn’t being as careful as I am now, and plus everyone is looking after me.”
Ray nodded gently, furrowing her brows. Amelia pulled her on to her lap, wrapping her arms around her. “I’m okay, Ray, I promise. I was just sick in the truck, which is normal when you grow a baby” Ray nodded again. ”Everything will be okay… alright?”
Ray smirked, pressing her lips together and nodding. Amelia kissed her on the cheek and held her tightly, “Breathe little one” she whispered, feeling some tension leave Ray. Ray swung her feet and smiled wider. “Oh, look at those lovely shoes” Amelia said, peering down at the red boots on Ray’s feet, they were much like the tiny pair that she’d found earlier. Ray smiled proudly, and nodded.
“They fit nice”
“They do? Well I guess it was meant to to be” She said, hugging Ray tightly, dotting a kiss to her cheek.
------------------
“Are we leaving?” Amelia asked, moving back into the room with Ray at her side. Amelia had a nearly new pair of sneakers on her feet.”Yeah…” Owen said, walking to her and handing her half a sandwich. Amelia took it, nodding slowly, looking around at everyone.
Bags were being restuffed, and heaved over shoulders. Ray sped from her side, over to Ellis and her bag and her toys, and her cat Ginny, who’d become a tame and well behaved version of herself.
Amelia felt the prickle of a shiver sweep over her body as she entertained the idea of being out on the road again.
She wrapped her arm around her stomach and swallowed back a ball of tension in her throat. “Sit on the couch Amelia dear, we’ll get everything sorted” Evelyn spoke kindly, her hand pressing firmly against her back. Amelia released a restrained breath and looked down at herself, moving to the couch without looking up.
Richard stooped over the sofa and passed Amelia another sandwich. He paused behind her, eyeing everyone around the room as they packed their bags. He glanced down at Amelia, at the hand she had pressed firmly against her stomach. He sucked in a chestful of air and pursed his lips. He quashed his worry for her, and for the baby. He met Owens gaze and they exchanged a stream of concern. Richard smiled tightly, and turned away, back to his bag.
Amelia finished her sandwich and smoothed her hands over her bump, closing her eyes. Owen grit his teeth. His worry became weighty, and a sudden dizziness overwhelmed him. He winced, swallowing hard, looking down at his feet, at his bags.
---------------------------------
“We ready?” Alex spoke, pulling the door open.
No one answered verbally, they simply began to file out of the room. Amelia walked ahead of Owen. She was tired, Owen could tell that much from the extent of her waddle. His eyes watered at the prospect of not being able to give her what she needed right now; safety, and certainty. She paused at the door, taking in the morning mist, and the cool grey sky. Owen bit his lip, and ran is hand across her waist. She shuddered slightly, startled, before nodding, stepping out.
The grass was crisp under their feet, ice melting. The van bounced up and down as everyone jumped in. “um, how… how long will we be driving?” Amelia asked, taking Alex by the arm.
“Uh, I don’t know… we… Hey Owen… You and Amelia sit up front with me? Seeing the road might help your sickness” Alex said, gaze locking with Amelia’s again. She inhaled and smiled, awash with relief at the idea of not having to ask to be sedated again. Owen nodded, slinging their bags into the back of the truck and tucking the pillows he was carrying higher up under her arms. Amelia took a step back so the doors could close and moved against Owen’s chest. He pressed a kiss to the back of her head and she smiled, turning to him and briefly dropping her head against his shoulder.
----------------------------------------
The van part the mist as it sped along the barren road, the sky was white. Amelia sat with her back to the window, pillows surrounding her, her calves on Owen’s lap. The window wipers were the only sound, thumping and sweeping against the window. Amelia gazed lazily out the front window, eyes drooping every so often.
Owen and Alex’s eyes were wide and observant, out at the road. They drove along a forest road for what seemed like an hour. Amelia fell asleep after a while, comforted by the repetitiveness of the forest blurring either side of them.
“Are we heading back to the house?”  Owen wanted to confirm.
“Richards?”
“Yeah”
“Yeah we are, on the off chance that no one has found our stash of supplies”
“You know the way?”
“I know the direction, I’m hoping to see something familiar eventually, we might need to hit the edge of the city”
Owen nodded slowly, looking back to the road, then across at Amelia. Owen brushed his hands up and down her legs, and them moved one to her bump. He closed his eyes, letting his neck go slack, resting his head back. Under his hand he felt a slow fluttering of movement, and he pressed his lips together, suppressing his smile.
--------------------------------
A loud thump woke them both with a start, and they opened their eyes to find blood splattered against the window. The truck bobbed and bounced as it ran something over. Eyes widened, “Alex, what…” Amelia began, but Alex interrupted her.
“It’s okay, it was one of those… things, a zombie dude.”
It took the couple a while to relax, and to settle back into their seats. They both eyed the front window, as the window wipers streaked blood across the glass. Owen felt Amelia’s cold hand against the back of his, holding his against her. Soon the blood was gone, apart from a few smears at the corners.
They were out of the forest now, rushing along a straight road through frosted fields. Amelia pulled her legs towards her and folded them at the knees. She shuffled to sit up further and hummed, opening the window a crack. Wind crept in and played with the hair at the top of her head. She tilted her head back so she could inhale the cool air, eyes dropping shut. “Are you feeling sick?” Owen’s voice pierced through the sound of the rushing wind. Amelia nodded, uttering “A little, it’s fine.”
She closed the window after a few minutes, pulling a blanket up to her shoulders. “You know what I miss?” Amelia said, breaking the silence.
Both Owen and Alex peered her way, Owen’s eyes lingered on her. “Waffles?” Owen smirked, raising his brows.
Amelia smiled back, shaking her head, “yes but, no… I miss tumours, big butterfly tumours…” She placed her hands at the back of her head and sat back, smiling.
Owen saw the glint in her eye, one he hadn’t known he’d been craving.
“All of them, I miss surgery.”
“I miss waiting at the intake doors of the ER, for the ambulances to arrive… the anticipation of it” Owen said, nodding.
Amelia smiled, so did Alex.
“I miss the simple things…” Alex began, half smiling. “I miss the kids and… just seeing them get better… and go home”
The group beamed, their smiles lingering as they settled their eyes back at the road.
Up ahead, they could just make out the figures of people staggering in and out of the road. Amelia folded her legs in tighter and sat forward, eyes widening to take in the sight. Alex slowed slightly as they passed them. A man, dead, naked, was covered in darkened and blackened blood. The fingers of one hand were missing and the side of his face was mangled and bloody. A little boy followed, also seemingly dead. He walked slowly, on the balls of his feet, head hanging down. His hair spiked towards the ground, soaked and darkened by blood. He wore a oversized tshirt and the remnants of a pair of green shorts. Another man limped along side the boy, randomly changing direction and drifting into the woods as they passed by in the truck. “Fuck” Amelia muttered, sinking heavily into her chair. Alex and Owen both shared the sentiment.

Going for The Goal
Hello! The other day while listening to one of my favorite playlists for writing and appreciating the beautiful weather outside; this spontaneous idea at complete random appeared in my mind and I knew that I needed to expand on it, instantly. Highly unlikely that this will have a second part primarily because I almost never finish second parts, which causes me to have several already started multi-fics in the making; but I would definitely be willing to write another part if it is requested. Here is “Going for The Goal,” please enjoy!
Long vibrant strands of fresh grass waved in a repetitive motion as a calming wind passed through the suburban area of lower Seattle, on the perfect and early spring day. Homes across the picturesque neighborhood remained quiet as various residents continued to sleep including the larger home hidden beneath a cluster of trees. Inside the man-made home was Owen and Amelia as they peacefully laid in one another’s arms while their three young children slept in different rooms opposite the master, towards the back of the home. The male trauma surgeon’s rounded muscular hand naturally rested on Amelia’s growing stomach causing him to feel every rise and fall of her chest through her abdomen along with small but noticeable movements from their already active baby girl.
Slowly the bright sun welcomed its presence throughout the shaded home into the windows indicating the dreadful morning hours. With her beautiful eyes remained shut, the pregnant neurosurgeon grasped onto Owen’s hand making her tired muscles relax. Amelia groaned after noticing the brightness.
“How are you feeling this morning?” Owen lethargically inquired of Amelia once he had noticed her carefully shift in his arms seconds before she exhaustively yawned.
“Besides growing another small human inside of me and vomiting all my guts out last night, which caused me to almost faint? Better. I think my stomach muscles are still aching from it and the baby growing doesn’t help.” Amelia confessed honestly to her husband who seemed worried but instead he nodded in agreement.
“Leo has his first soccer game today; are you sure that you will feel up to it. I’m sure Maggie will film the entire thing.” The male trauma surgeon observed from the situation of his wife rubbing her swollen abdomen wearily, he patiently awaited her response in attempts to make sure she was okay.
Finally Amelia opened her tired eyes and matched her bright blue irises with his darker blues before adjusting her delicate hands from her stomach to the middle of Owen’s broad chest muscles then smiled at him, seconds before offering her statement.
“I love you; Owen.” The brunette reassured her husband which allowed him to acknowledge and understand how she was feeling. Being her soulmate; Owen knew exactly what she was feeling; although she was in a state of discomfort, her motherly instinct would sacrifice any amount of pain to witness and experience the joy of her children. Once hearing what she had to say and silently taking a note of how he can make her day brighter; Owen kissed Amelia with passion before he turned his head after hearing three small children at the tall door.
“Hi Daddy! Hi Mama!” Their youngest son, Cortland announced as his two older brothers stood on either side of him. Once more the male trauma surgeon kissed the brunette before removing himself from the thick comforter and bent his knees to the children’s eye-level.
“Alright soldiers. One of you decided that it was a good idea to get the others up after he decided to wake up himself. Who that is; is a mystery but don’t think that for a second that will trick, Major. Hunt.” The father teased with each son as the brunette continued peacefully resting in the bed, to watch her boys joke with one another. The man scanned into each pair of bright blue eyes carefully while they attempted to maintain straight faces that their father taught them at an early age.
“Mr. Leo is a soccer star as of today, so it could be him. Or maybe it’s Mr. Thomas who has his mama’s eyes but yet it could be Mr. Cortland but he’s my favorite. So it can’t be him? Mama? Who do you think our contestant is?” Owen proposed to Amelia who couldn’t contain her smile or laughter at the antics or each boy with their arms crossed over their small chests.
“My bets are totally on my little man.”
“Leo; it is!” Owen proclaimed aloud seconds before he lifted his six year old into his arms followed by lifting the two others above him until he landed them safely on the giant bed out of his muscular arms, where Amelia sat with her soft hands onto her stomach to feel the early morning kicks herself.
Once all the family was relaxing on the bed; the male trauma surgeon held Cortland in his arms and covered everyone with the thick blanket. Unprepared for what her oldest son was about to do Amelia flitched slightly once seeing his small arm come towards her stomach but was surprised the moment Leo rested his small hands in the middle of his mother’s growing and sore pregnant belly.
“Is my baby sister okay, mama? Does she not feel good when you don’t feel good?” Hearing Leo’s question; Amelia’s eyes immediately filled with small tears along with curiosity how he knew that she was not feeling well but knew already that someday he will care as much as his father does for the women he loves.
“Baby sister is wonderful, my little lion.” The neurosurgeon tearfully vocalized to her adopted son and the first one who made her become a mother for more than forty three minutes, while she played with his naturally curled hair he inherited from Betty. Owen and Amelia shared glances with one another ahead of mouthing their three favorite words.
Hours had come and gone, and the morning became an even more perfect afternoon when there was only an hour until Leo’s soccer game. In the rather large kitchen was the brunette as she placed healthy and organic snacks until plastic containers for the game while Owen remained occupied in his oldest son’s room to help him get in his uniform.
“Let’s go show mama!” Owen cheerfully directed to Leo who he walked behind as they made their way out of his bedroom, towards the kitchen. From afar the male trauma surgeon coughed to signal the neurosurgeon, she glanced up and saw the bright blue jersey along with shorts.
“Leo! You look amazing, what do you think?!” Amelia declared to Leo as he began to cheer for himself and the reaction he had been wanting of his mother’s approval.
Once they had arrived at the giant sports field; the male trauma surgeon parked in the parking space and shut off the minivan’s engine, Leo impatiently unbuckled his seatbelt before either one of his parents could exit the vehicle but remained sitting until his brothers were unlatched. Owen lifted Cortland into his arms before retrieving the lunch bag filled with several snacks beside him while Amelia helped Thomas step down off of the van’s platform then clasped onto his small hand and Leo followed.
“Drake!” Leo shouted to his teammate and cousin upon seeing him from afar sitting with his parents who patiently waited for the game to begin, in their lounge chairs and sunglasses covering their eyes to block out the bright sunlight.
“Leo!” Drake exclaimed back to his cousin before asking his mother for permission to run in the other boy’s direction. His mother approved and returned to reading her thick book. Both five year olds grew close over their years because their mothers shared a never ending bond as sisters as well as being two of the most successful surgeons at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.
“I’m so happy to see you; sister. I didn’t think you were coming!” Maggie cheerfully told her sister as she hugged her tightly mere moments before adjusting her hands down to Amelia’s growing abdomen.
“Hello baby girl; this is your Auntie Maggie. Don’t ever forget that.” The female cardiothoracic surgeon directed to her niece still inside the uterus while Andrew DeLuca greeted his brother in law and colleague once he removed himself from the lounge chair. Both men set up the extra lawn chairs for the rest of the family beside Andrew and Maggie’s other kids.
Twenty five minutes into the game as the third quarter was just seconds away, one of Leo’s teammates dribbled the ball towards him and passed it to him from being instructed by their coach; adrenaline was high and cheers soared for the home team although it wasn’t labeled as a competition all the parents made sure to cheer for their child. Getting ready to kick the ball towards the net, a slightly taller boy from the away team pushed Leo onto the ground with force. Before the small boy hit the ground the brunette ran as fast as her six month pregnant body could allow followed by the male trauma surgeon to reach their son. Favoring his mother’s tough will; Leo refused to cry despite the tears that were in his eyes, Amelia started to tear up at the site of seeing her son injured and felt paralyzed at what to do until Owen’s steady and calming nature took over, and reassured the both of them before he lifted Leo into his arms to walk back to the minivan. As they walked back Maggie nodded her head in Amelia’s direction, signaling that her and Andrew were able to take care of their nephews.
Once arriving at the hospital; Owen put the vehicle in park and turned off the engine to have it rest in one of the employee parking spots, he retrieved his son from the back seat in which his wrist hung down. The male trauma surgeon walked in the emergency department with Amelia behind him and was greeted with Meredith following.
“Hey; how was the game?” The older general surgeon asked her sister who was visually distraught and in pain, the brunette did not say a word but just stood in the doorway of the trauma room where she watched her husband and son who started sobbing in pain just minutes before, while a wave of pain shot through his arm. Although Amelia knew it was only an arm injury, the sympathy pain she felt was unimaginable. Meredith glanced back and forth between Owen and Amelia.
“Leo got pushed to the ground and his arm is broken. Either get an orthopedic surgeon down here or allow me to fix this.” Owen requested of Meredith who snapped on her gloves to take a glance at the laceration on her nephew’s head.
The general surgeon informed her intern to page an available orthopedic surgeon before the male trauma surgeon got angry, once the brunette heard Meredith’s request of the intern, she finally sat on the other side of Leo and took his hand.
“Ah, okay. Hey little guy!” The familiar voice boasted as he walked into the local trauma room causing both Owen and Amelia to glance up from where their eyes rested on each other.
“You paged Dr. Lincoln out of all the surgeons in this hospital?” Owen stressed to the clueless intern who looked helpless but sprinted out of the trauma room. Before Link started to snap the surgical gloves onto his hand, Leo stopped him.
“You got in Daddy’s way when I was a baby, don’t even dare touching my arm. Mommy don't even liked you!” Leo’s small but powerful voice ordered the blonde orthopedic surgeon before the man backed up in his standing position. Amelia and Owen attempted to remain a similar straight face to the ones that mirrored their sons’ earlier that day.
Once Link left the room the brunette bursted into laughter causing Owen to join in, causing the little boy to accompany his parents laughter knowing that he said something funny. The male trauma surgeon held out his hand for Leo to slap it with his non-injured hand.
“I think Leo just shot his first goal.” Owen proudly told Amelia who nodded her head in agreement after appreciating what type of life she happily had after deciding to shoot her own goal four years prior and returning back to her soulmate’s arms.
