双镜, ljm, goblin (the kdrama). i watch things so slowly these days, maybe one episode per week T.T that said i have some breaks coming up so hopefully i’ll be able to make some progress! also sj is spoiling me, it’s a full length adapted (albeit censored) baihe, and i’m used to baihe adaptations that are <7min per episode.

the warrior moon, which i’ve been meaning to read forever but i finally caved and downloaded libby and checked it out and now i’m reading about 10%-15% before bed, because i’ve realised that when it’s not an academic text i have a hard time justifying spending time on reading, but if i’m already in bed, well, that’s stolen time i can do whatever i want with.

nothing, since i’m currently in class, though i did have breakfast earlier. the barista horrifically mangled my name on my drink and i sent it to my friend to laugh about it. (for actual food i had banana bread and peach yoghurt.)

Would you mind giving some examples of sera gamble's antiblackness? It doesn't surprise me at all bc *gestures at the show* but it all runs together in my memory and I can't place any eras besides kripke s1-4

yeah sure! the show in general is racist ofc, but i think her writing consistently depicts black men as menacing and villainous.

gordon walker's introductory episode is perhaps the first ep in the series that attempts to address the issues with hunting and how it's populated by predominantly white vigilantes with guns but it also uses a black man as dean's evil foil! again, predominantly white vigilantes but it just has to be a black man we see menace & hurt innocent white vampire amber benson while the winchesters look on in horror.

if bloodlust is bad, fresh blood in s3 makes things so much worse because at least with the aforementioned you can rationalise it as sterling k brown being the best actor who auditioned but fresh blood is. it's. well you get sam & dean decapitate harmony kendall in the first 5 minutes alone but then vamp!gordon decapitating a bunch of white blonde lady vamps is proof of how scary & evil he is. very obvious white woman who crosses the street to avoid black men vibes from that ep. oh, and vamp!gordon avoids drinking blood until he suddenly decides to pin dean against the wall and feed off of dean's neck (suggestively!) before sam & gordon fight and then sam fucking decapitates him with razor wire. i swear before i saw HOtG this was hands down my least fave ep.

if we're talking gamble era in general i'm thinking of raphael as the big bad of s6 but i also watched s6 more than a month ago and have forgotten so much i can't fully get into it. OH YEAH just remembered how the alpha vampire is played by *drum roll* a black actor! what's more is he's the ONLY alpha depicted as a child predator - he's not a sexual abuser, sure, but he canonically abducts children to feed off of as a ~delicacy.

the other examples i'm thinking of that aren't as bad but cannot take in good faith are:

sam & dean torturing a demon in a black vessel in 3x15/time is on my side

ruby temporarily possessing a black maid in 4x09/IKWYDLS and it being played for laughs

lisa's black boyfriend getting his neck snapped by demons in 6x21/let it bleed after 10 seconds of screentime

tl;dr idc how much people hate gamble for the magicians BYG, in the context of spn her anti-blackness is way way worse than her homophobia.

What ship were you completely obsessed with when you were a teenager, but now you don't care about anymore?

hmm..........i wrote a lot of oc stories when i was younger, largely for warrior cats settings/spinoffs, so i don't think i had a specific ship i was into? i read a lot of genfic (again, warrior cats fan).

Which ship would you consider your first one?

like i said, i didn't really have a "ship" for a long time, but in 2013 i was gifted the first l&co book and it prompted me to get much more seriously into fandom, so.......locklyle, i guess (i had yet to discover gay people, which is very ironic if you consider certain facts about my life).

Your first fanfic was about which couple?

again, locklyle! i actually deleted the fic i wrote, rewrote it, and reuploaded it years after i had first written it.

Do you remember the first couple you saw fanart of?

i think it was wc art? probably sandfire (gay cats weren't exactly..............in, yet).

Have you ever gotten into ship discourse?

no. i refuse to do so. if i hate a ship i'll complain about it to my friends to let off steam and then continue on with my life. i'm here to have fun not spend my limited spoons on arguing about fictional characters. if there's one person or people who post a lot of ships i don't like i'll block or avoid them.

Did you use to have any NOTP or have one currently?

yeah but i'm not going to say them because i would rather not get into an argument about things with people. beloved friends can probably guess though.

uhhhhhh fuck. i think. hang on. du cheng/shen yi (this is @lunarriviera's fault).

i was going to say nygmob in gotham but then i remembered. [YOU cat meme] syfy magicians. ohhhhhh i have so many words in my head and rage in my heart and hatred of showrunners and the way the show was handled later on and—whatever. whatever. it's fine. i still have a life in the day.

Is there any ship you used to dislike but now you think they are kind of interesting?

uhhhhhhhhh fuck. um. i can't think of anything on this aspect but i have the opposite. when i first got into tgcf i was neutral on fq but as i read more i got more and more annoyed that people were ignoring the clear class dynamics at play and how that complicated and complicates their relationship and instead just pigeonholing them into the enemies (rivals) to lovers mould.

Do you have any ship that, in the past, would've been considered normal but now you would be cancelled over?

what's the view on firetiger these days because that's probably the only one i can think of.

What is your favorite crack ship?

i don't really read crackfic? i like crackfic but i prefer crack taken serious—WAIT. I JUST REMEMBERED. tony stark x thomas barrow. if you know who that is you probably know the exact fanfic i'm talking about. that's probably the only crackship i can think of that has left any sort of impression on me. no idea how it holds up currently since i only read it once at like 4:00am but yeah it was fun.

What is the couple you read the most fanfics about?

numbers-wise probably either newmann or hualian. probably hualian? emotional support godghost couple <3

What do most of your ships usually have in common?

deeply fucked up people who find meaning in each other, probably.

What you absolutely hate in a ship?

destroying a character's personality to make the ship work. i love shipfic but fuck you i want those characters to be in character. i don't care if it makes the ship "more fucked up" that's actually fun in my opinion.

I have sooo many thoughts about Azula and I can't contain them. She never had to try to be a good firebender, and she never had to try to be cunning. But she struggles interacting with people; she intimidates them and comes off too harsh when she doesn't always mean to. Her father praised her natural abilities and berated Zuko for his natural compassion, and for having to try where Azula didn't. So somewhere in her mind she decided that "having to try" = weakness, and that cultivating relationships with people must also = weakness, since thats what Zuko's good at and their father says he's weak. But still, they have been with her since childhood! She semi-apologizes to Ty Lee in "The Beach", she tells Zuko to be careful visiting Iroh bc it makes him look suspicious, and it does genuinely bother her that her mother viewed her as a monster. She wants the people that she cares about to like her, and looks out for them in her own way. But none of these instances ever threaten her status as the golden child. I wish we could've gotten to see her have to make a real choice between being the Perfect One and the people she cares about, where she has no ulterior motives and stands to lose something tangible by choosing her friends over power.

u make a really interesting point here about how neither azula nor zuko are inherently Superior to the other, but merely had different traits that were assigned value by their culture, so azula was considered “good” and zuko was considered “bad.” but place them in a different environment, or assign value to different traits, and azula loses her footing, as we see in “the beach.” it’s the fact that azula considers subjective notions such as “the divine right to rule” or “fear being more powerful than love” to be objective fact that, when contested, shatters her worldview so thoroughly that it shatters her carefully-constructed psyche. but that doesn’t mean that azula doesn’t care. we see enough cracks in her facade to know that she does care. but for the most part, she has no reason to doubt herself. but were she “redeemed,” she would ultimately choose love over power, like aang did.
