Obi-Wan was, for once, at peace. With his eyes closed, his breathing even, his awareness gently stretching out along the Force, the Jedi experienced peace. There was no noise in Obi-Wan’s mind, no distractions. It was... pleasant. And yet, he found himself yearning for something out of reach.

He frowned when he became aware of another’s presence in the room. “Anakin,” he said because it was his partner, his former padawan, that was now with him in his room. He opened his eyes and looked over at his friend.

Obi-Wan regarded him for a long moment before deciding to speak again. “Why am I not surprised you’re here?”

“Master, please,” Obi-Wan groaned as he overheard Qui-Gon reveal one of his not-so-finer moments. Obi-Wan remembered those times somewhat differently until his Master reminded him of how many times he had faltered. Obi-Wan had been under the impression he had been quite charming; apparently not. “Must you bring that up again?” While it was good to see Master Qui-Gon smile as he reminisced, Obi-Wan would prefer the reminiscing wasn’t centred on his failed attempts at flirting.

As she declared her opinion, Obi-Wan looked at her for a moment with wide eyes and his jaw hanging slightly open. He recovered and his face resumed a more neutral expression. “I assure you, Padme, that I do believe you,” he stated, purposefully keeping his tone calm. “Have I given you any reason for you to think otherwise?”

Obi-Wan hid his smirk behind his hand as he brushed his beard. There were a few things he could say at this point about Anakin’s attraction to recklessness but not one of them were suitable for Anakin’s Padawan to hear; not at this juncture of their relationship anyway, maybe later on.

“You wouldn’t be alone in your estimation of Master Skywalker, Padawan Tano,” Obi-Wan said in a measured tone. “I happen to think you and I would have been a good match, but I also happen to think you and Anakin are much better suited for each other.”
