Owltober Day 16: Funniest Moment

I maintain my stance that this is the funniest moment in the series. Amity comes in through the portal slowly and calmly and lands and her feet. Luz FLIES into the room like a missile, COMPLETELY horizontal, and slams into the wall while Amity’s watching with a face that says “wtf.” Comedy gold.

Owltober day 22: Theory you really thought would be true, but turned out to be wrong

Y'all are gonna hate me for this… I almost thought Raine was gonna be bad.

Yes, I thought Raine would pull the bullshit "You have a family? Forget that, we're saving the world, which is better for these reasons" move.

But I'm glad they didn't. Instead it was kinda the reverse. "You have a family? Forget this plan, those people are more important and I understand if you can't go through with it."

It was very refreshing to see.

Owltober 2021 Day 24: Favorite barely known ship?

Huntlow. Extremely determined but kind person who could kill god and overworked and sleepless person who needs therapy is a top tier ship dynamic in my opinion. I typically don't ship characters who have not met in cannon but @jess-the-vampire's AU where Hunter is the human stumbling into the isles has given me enough reason to think they could work. Please check them out they do amazing art and The Reverse of Feathers and Mud AU is one of the best AUs i have ever seen. I want to say more but I don't want to spoil it so please go look it's so cool!

Thing you wished the show focused more on: Willow Park (and whether she and Amity are officially friends again)

I loved almost everything about season 2A...except for one thing.

Where’s Willow?!?!

The lack of Willow episodes/scenes in this season saddened me. I could include Gus in this, but at least he had his own story line in one of the episodes (granted, most fans mainly cared about the lumity plot line). But Willow had no story line focused on her like we had in season 1 (Understanding Willow and Wing It Like Witches).

Willow is such an amazing and interesting character. She is a good and kind character, but can also kick your butt with her plant magic if you threaten her loved ones and friends. We have seen the other main characters’ powers grow this season (especially Amity in “Escaping Expulsion” and “Eclipse Lake”). But I am dying to see an epic fight scene between Willow and whoever dares to fight her.

Additionally, I really want the show to tackle Willow’s complicated relationship with Amity. “Understanding Willow” ended with Amity declaring to make things right and not let Boscha and the rest of the gang bullied Willow anymore. Willow said they still weren’t friends, but it was a start.

While Willow and Amity have worked together to save Luz in different situations (playing grudgby against Boscha’s team, saving her from getting killed by the Abomaton 2.0), we still haven’t received any direct confirmation that Willow and Amity are officially friends again.

All I ask for season 2B is to see Willow in more episodes, and also give us at least one Willow focused episode. Lastly, a scene where either Willow or Amity acknowledge each other as friends. Just so we the fans know that Willow has truly forgiven Amity and they are friends again, instead of them just being friendly toward each other for Luz’s sake (Luz being Willow’s best friend and Amity’s girlfriend).

Owltober 2021 Day 17

Most Emotional Moment?

Hoo boy, there are plenty of candidates.

How about in Understanding Willow with the reason behind Willow and Amity's friendship ending being revealed, and Amity's explanation and new resolve to not let Boscha and her crew pick on Willow anymore?

Or the climactic witches' duel and aftermath in Agony of a Witch, where Eda sacrifices the last of her magic to save Luz and succumbs to the curse, seemingly once and for all?

Or in Young Blood, Old Souls, where Luz and Eda express their love for each other and Luz believes she's watching Eda being raised up to her death?

Or in Separate Tides, where Luz expresses her guilt and belief that she's a burden, and Eda thoroughly debunking that?

Or in Echoes of the Past, where King finally realizes the fiction of his supposed backstory and subsequent breakdown? (We'll call this one the runner-up. Alex Hirsch's finest performance, I swear.)

Or in Keeping Up A-fear-ances, where Gwen realizes the harm she's caused both of her daughters and her newfound resolve to do right by them?

Or in Through the Looking Glass Ruins, where Luz and Amity tell each other they do stupid things around each other? (Shortly followed by the kiss!)

Or at the end of Luz's bit in Hunting Palismen, where Eda drops the Palistrom wood in Luz's lap and assures her they can start carving when she's ready?

Or in Eda's Requiem, with the performance of the titular requiem, Raine assuring Eda her kids still need her more than she realizes, "You know I can't stand an audience," and King surprising Eda with the name change? (Wow, there was a lot in this one!)

Or in Knock, Knock, Knockin' On Hooty's Door, with:

King's fear of never finding out what he is and anger at his dad for leaving him?

Just...the entirety of Eda's dream sequence, culminating in finally making peace with the Owl Beast?

A heartbroken Amity believing she was just rejected by Luz in the most painful way possible, and Luz horrified to realize she dun goofed?

(Sorry, I was very tempted to gush about the entirety of K³OHD again)

All good, emotional moments worthy of mention. For my money, though? It's gotta be near the end of Yesterday's Lie with the exchange between Luz and Camila in the rain.

You can feel Camila's fear about Luz being in a strange world where she can't be reached. ("Is this the only way I can touch you?" still gets me) You can also tell how hurt she feels when she believes she pushed Luz away to the point of escaping to this strange world, while it's also clear that Luz never meant it that way, and in fact Camila is the main reason she's trying to get back in the first place.

I imagine many people will cite this episode and scene for this particular day, and with good reason. This scene still haunts me in the best possible way, and I very much want them to get to a point where they can start healing.

Oh, another honorable mention from the same episode is Vee detailing her troubled past and Camila accepting her as she is.

Whew! That was another long one! I like it when I have a lot to say. Hopefully other people do, too.

Owltober 23: Random, unimportant headcanons

Behold, the first thing I've ever decided to do for the Owltober :) I conveniently had a doc of random unimportant headcannons already in existance, so I can just take that and tidy it up, and half an hour later we have a post! :D

Willow's dads had her go into the abomination track because they thought that shaping and controlling abominations would be far calmer than the dangerous, thorny plant magic she was using. Maybe they saw young Amity's first abominations and thought "aw, that's cute, those things seem so harmless :)", which later sparked the idea to get Willow to study it too.

When Amity found the Azura movie DVD, she knew she had to watch it no matter what, so she spent many days scouring the library and beaches trying to find human books that could tell her how to use the metal cookies. One day at the market, she found Eda's Human Collectables stall and bought a DVD player, which she believes is the best purchase she's ever made. To this day, she has a far-above average level of knowledge about human movies simply because of all that effort she went to to watch that one human thing.

Ed and Em have most definetly conjured illusions of Amity before, and made it do and say stupid things :) The real Amity did not appreciate it :)

After Gus saved Mattholomule during the Galderstone Incident, Matt decided to let Gus be president of the H.A.S again. Gus decided in return to let Matt be his vice-president. (watch this get proven wrong 5 episodes from now...)

When Gus hears Luz's human nickname for Mattholomule, he immeaditely starts calling him that, which indirectly helps Matt start to feel accepted in their group.

Eda gives Gus some of the human junk she's unable to sell or doesn't think is worth selling. These become some of Gus' most prized posessions (his most prized posession is the Bad Girl Coven shirt that hangs above his bed).

Amity only knows the cage spell from ep12 in the first place because she would use it to create barriers in the doorway to her room when Ed and Em popped up to do some sibling schenanigans..

Luz and Amity, being the artists they are, have definetly drawn little fanarts of each other at least once. Possibilities include:

- Luz casting a glyph

- Luz in grom outfit

- Amity in cape

- Abomination in the shape of Luz / Ice formation in the shape of Amity

- Either one of them dressed up as Azura

Edric and Emira have jokingly asked to be invited to Azura Book Club, multiple times. They've also asked things such as "Where/when's the next book club meeting?!! We've been dying to goooo"

Each one of Luz's friends have one of her Banned From Hexside posters. When Amity became friends with the group, Gus gave her one as part of the induction. While it reminds her of a day a lot of things went wrong for her, it was also the day she met her new friend-and-later-crush, so she keeps it, in the same place as her Grom Queen crown.

King likes to wear Luz's Grom Queen crown on days he's feeling extra rulery

Hooty, being the evesdropper he is, teased Luz the first few days of her relationship with Amity by referring to Amity as the "cotton candy-haired goddess". Example: "LuuuUUuuz the cotton candy-haired goddess is at the dooorrrr!!!" *prize-winning smirk ensues*

Eda watched a lot of movies during her adventures in the human realm. They usually turned out to be fantasy movies though, so she didn't actually gain a lot of knowledge about humans by watching them.

King's letter is absolutely COATED in grime and sticky fish bones and one or two lollypops inside one of Hooty's many stomachs right now...

While Luz and Amity cleaned up the mess resulting from The Library Incident, Luz told her what the diary misunderstanding was. Amity wasn't very talkative that night, but there WERE a lot of fallen books and shelves to tidy, so there was plenty of room for Luz to explain everything.

While goblin-tipping in this same episode, the twins realised that they went too far because of Luz's reaction to their plan. They weren't bothered with Amity's reaction because they expected it, but when someone they didn't previously know and who they'd become friends with had doubted them, that's when they were forced to reconsider.

Owltober day 23: random, unimportant headcanons

Willow dresses up her plants during holidays

Gus is still salty he couldn't use his lady guard illusion as a distraction at the Blight Industries sale.

Eda does eventually find out about Luz and King's encounter with the lizard guy (from s1 e11) and has to be held back from going after him.

The first thing Luz does when she sees Lilith again is tell her about the Golden Guard. Shit like "you were right Lilith" was said (that's for another post)

Once when Eda was sick, King had to sit on her chest to keep her from getting up. (Luz said "You know the rules. If King is on you, it's illegal to move.") it's super effective!

King and Luz have caught themselves referring to each other as "brother and sister" a few times. Similar to how Eda catches herself saying "my kid"

Day 16: Funniest Moment

Oh God, how can I possibly pick just one funny moment out of the whole series??

So I’m going to pick one or two funny moments in each of my favorite episodes.

Lost in Language:

“Phew, almost passed out”

and

Edric: It says no trespassing but I'm allergic to the rules.

Emira: And dairy.

Edric: Wow, okay. Just expose me.

Enchanting Grom Fright:

The spider crawling on Luz’s face. “Fearless...champion”

and

Hooty to Amity: “You wanna hear my worst nightmare?” And then Amity proceeds to beat the hell out of him.

Wing It Like Witches: (this whole dang episode cracks me up, so this is very hard to pick just two)

Luz: Don’t worry, it’s not like she can follow us around all day, right?

Cut to her, Willow and Gus cover in trash and graffiti

Luz: She followed us around all day. She literally followed us around all day! 

and

Amity’s big gay panic moment

Me? On a team with you? Running around in cute uniforms? Sweating? I gotta go! 

Escaping Expulsion:

Gus: That's right, we'll get back into Hexside or die trying!

Owltober 2021 Day 28

Favorite Fanfic

Funnily enough, despite not having read too many, I actually have three fic recommendations to make. All of them are ones I've read through multiple times, so you know they're good!

Also, spoiler: these are all Lumity fics lmao

Anyways...

First up, we have No Apologies by @captainimprobable ! A lovely beta coffee shop AU, with both Luz and Amity being hilarious disasters and infinitely sweet with each other in equal measure. Plus, a sequel is in the works! Hooray!

Next we have Learning How To Be (With You By My Side) by uniqueusernamegenerator (who doesn't seem to have a Tumblr)! This one's a college AU with mutual pining, ice cream cakes, and parental issues. (Previous one also did, but they're more prominent here) I also love how Amity's internal perspective is written here.

Last, but certainly not least, we have Where Tigers and Dragons Meet by @chaosbicycle !

I previously made a post where I recommended this fic. I'm gonna be somewhat lazy and recommend you read that post, since everything I said still applies. I will add that there's a wonderful scene with Luz and Camila that will probably make you cry.
