You know what I rarely see being touched upon in stories? It’s Azula’s time at the academy which I think has potential to be exploited, since thanks to other official sources we know that the academy was not a normal school like in "the headband" but a brutal one where girls went through survival training and Agni Kai’s happened, some ending with fatalities. I bet the dangerous ladies have some interesting stories to share.

DiMartino: When we were coming up with Azula, we decided we wanted to have these two friends with her. We didn't want them to be firebenders. They wouldn't be as good as her, so why would she keep these other, lesser, firebenders around? So we decided that she would have basically picked out two people who had certain skills that she did not have. Ty Lee with her acrobatics and Mai with her super pin-point accuracy and quick draw skills.
Konietzko: Azula, even as a child in the playground, was able to recognize people who were better than her in certain areas and keep them close until she either became as good as them or had need of them. She's always manipulating, always playing an angle.

The fact that there’s a sizeable chunk of the fandom that believes it’s not sexist to call Azula “rabid” or Katara “a bitch”, but that it IS sexist to call Azula, Mai, and Ty Lee “Ozai’s Angels” is sending me right now.

Hello, could you write some hcs about Ozai's Angels with a s/o (preferably female but gn is fine) who is secretly a waterbender. Their s/o was born in the Fire Nation but their parents were water tribe or something like that. They keep the waterbending a secret for obvious reasons. However, during a very heated battle with (insert enemy here) they let lose and win the battle in their favor. what is Azula, Mai and Ty lee's reaction to their s/o, who they thaught had no bending abilities, suddenly using waterbending and decemating their enemies.
Ozai's Angels x Secret Fem! Waterbender
Azula, Ty Lee and Mai all thought that you and your family were all Non-benders. They knew that you were not originally from the Fire Nation.
They were always guessing, trying to find out where you were from.
But, they wouldn't pester you about it, as they knew that it was a sensitive topic for you.
They just never expected you to be a waterbender.
Thee four of you were vacationing at Ember Island, taking some time off the life of the palace.
It was dark, and you three were sharing stories about your childhood.
".......and that's how me and my sister got away from the giant bear!" Ty Lee just finished her story.
Taking a deep breath, you started to talk.
"I know you three wanted to know about my history and my past, and..." You didn't get to finish your sentence when 10 masked assassins circled the four of you.
Azula, Ty Lee and Mai immediately jumped up to fight them.
You were skilled in martial arts, so you started out with that.
Then, you got so caught up in your fight that you pulled the water from the sea and started to waterbend the assassins, defeating them one by one.
Azula was just standing there, her mouth open and staring at you.
Ty Lee was doing cartwheels, eyes awestuck as she cheered you on.
Mai showed emotion.
Then when you finished, Ty Lee immediately bounced up to you and asked a million questions.
"Didi you come from the Water Tribe? When did you learn how to waterbend? Was this the secret you were going to tell us?"
Azula waltzs up to you and tries to hide she was impressed on what you did.
Then Mai comes up and suggests some techniques for you that you can try.
Obviously, they are all shocked that you were a waterbender in the Fire Nation.
You four's relationship didn't change, but it was still a shock for everyone about your secret powers. And of course you made them swear to never tell anyone.
Though the whole thing, the were very suportive of what happened.

Mai and Ty Lee from ATLA. They are dressed in Chinese historical clothings from Ming Dynasty. Mai is quietly observing the plum blossoms and the petals in the first drawing; Ty Lee is looking at a branch of peach blossoms and standing under the flower tree.
I will upload a drawing of Azula in this similar fashion in the future. It feels so good to draw some ATLA characters in hanfu :))

[ If Azula’s coup had failed in Ba Sing Se. ]
Azula: Guess it’s time for plan B.
Ty Lee: What’s plan B?
Azula: Grab Zuko and run.
Mai: Why wasn’t that plan A?
Ty Lee: When did that stop being plan A?
