Oscar couldn’t have fallen into the Ever After because the Blacksmith would’ve taken one look at Ozma and been like “let’s get you a permanent body my dude” and yanked him out of Oscar’s head and the merge/reincarnation plot line would’ve been over.

It's another similarity I'm thinking about that both Ruby and Oscar are sort of living in the shadows of the people who came before them. Only in Ruby's case, she's trying to be like Summer, but she needs to let that go and try to be herself. And in Oscar's case, he's trying to not be like Ozpin (but he already is, it's why he merged with Oz in the first place-), but no matter how hard he tries he is no longer just himself.
MMMMMMMM. *chef's kiss* PAIN. AGONY, EVEN.

I'm not sure who will get a hold of the RWBY IP but I really hope whoever gets it concludes are actually gives more development to Ozpin and Oscar
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We still don't know anything about Oscar's path we don't know how he feels about his marriage fully we haven't gotten much of Oz in several volumes there's still a lot about his past we also don't know we don't even know the Man's first name I'm hoping that it whenever we do get volume 10 within the next several years
With whoever gets it if they decide not to try to reboot the show cuz I know that sometimes when IP's fall in a certain people's hands they'll just leave the show where it was and then try to reboot it I
pray that doesn't happen with RWBY and I hope that we really get to focus on Oscar and Oz is dynamic a bit more we got to finally focus on the main characters like we've needed for years but there are still really big arcs that need more
development and then to be wrapped up and I'm hoping we get that whenever we see volume 10 if volume 10 is what we get next for RWBY

The Wizard
Who am I, the young boy asked
Broken and weary, done with his task
Shattered and reeling, yet he is masked
To be strength unyielding, and yet...
Everything changes when all falls away
Darkness and light fade to shades of grey
What would you do, to win peace this day?
And would it be all you regret?
Trust is a thing not so easily bought
And what has been broken cannot be rewrought
Do you know just what it is that you fought?
For, or did you forget?
You both are and aren't immortal just yet...

Oscar would relate SO MUCH to Steven Universe
Everytime I see this scene I can't help to imagine Steven is Oscar, White is Salem and Connie is Ruby. It all fits so well.
Salem is convinced that oscar is only one of Oz's tricks, and that he's deceiving himself. He's fooling everyone into thinking he's Oscar, that he's not Ozma, that his soul is not the same.
Oscar denying it at first, also convinced that it's not true, that he's his own person even if he carries a part of him (his soul)
And salem saying that Oscar holds information and has memories that he couldn't have by himself. Oscar starts doubting, remembering everything he knows about Amity, Atlas, his mannerisms. Hallucinations like when he saw himself in the mirror back in his farm. Oscar starts doubting, he weakens.
Ruby appears, trying to help him and tells him not to listen to Salem, she's just trying to mess with him.
And well, this would be a stretch, mainly because Oscar doesn't have anything tangible that contains oz's soul. But let's say for the sake of the post that Salem would be able to separate Oscar from his soul just to prove that his soul is not his but Ozma's. His soul at first adopts the form of Ozma, then of his multiple incarnations and finally, Oscar. They need each other bc that's his soul. Oscar soul tells Salem that Ozma as she knows him is gone. Ruby helps Oscar get to his soul, reuniting and becoming one again
And everything because Oscar has to deal with everything Ozpin and the previous incarnations started and tried to finish, dragging a lot of people in the process to face a villain that not only is stuck in the past but also holds a bond with the original soul, Ozma
It all just fits SO WELL
And it baffles me how easily people understood that Steven is his own person even when the series show all the "anomalies" Steven suffers bc of his gem and the memories it holds but somehow, a lot of RWBY fans can't see Oscar as his own person and just see him as a meatsuit for Ozpin and a fuckin vessel, missing the whole point of Oscar's character arc

the takeaway the heroes take from the lost fable is that salem can't be beaten, and when ruby asks ozma what his plan to defeat salem actually is, he admits he doesn't have one. at no point while in possession of the lamp does anyone think about asking jinn about salem's plans, simply so that they could be better prepared to stop her.
hazel straight up gets a perfect opportunity to ask jinn about salem's plans to confirm what ozma told him is true, and he doesn't take it.
meanwhile the moment cinder gets hold of the lamp she uses the last question to ask jinn "what have ruby and her teammates planned?" and if that's not a confirmation that someone should have asked what salem's plans actually are idk what is.
( also maybe interesting that team rwby and co's plan was a risky move to save people of mantle from the ultimatum ironwood had just made; ultimatum that stated that mantle would be destroyed if penny—the protector of mantle—didn't do as he said. sounds... familiar. )

Ozcarnation merge musings from my twitter
I wrote these months ago and finally sharing them on tumblr.
Why I differentiate between Ozma and Ozpin, a 🧵
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I disagree with the general interpretation of where the merge subplot is actually heading in canon: most people think it will actualize, I think it will be reversed, either stopping the merge for good or reversing it after it comes very briefly into reality.
Oscar's arc, paralleling Ruby (mainly, but other characters share the trait as well) has been about him trying to find his own place and his own story, but the shadow of supposed ego death is always looming on him and terrifying him.
Tumblr media
Everytime he takes a step forward, he's reminded again of the expected fate for him, something that some characters actively want (like Ironwood).
Examples:
volume 6, after being treated as a stand-in for Ozpin, currently MIA, Oscar takes his own decision to forgive the team and be prepared for battle alongside them. While reconciling with tem, with his new combat gear, he still can't help but be haunted of "how much time he has left".
Volume 7 places him in a conundrum the entire volume: he's developing as a fighter, growing up as an adolescent and forging stronger relationship with his newfound friends. Jaune clearly comes to see him as a little brother and there's something interesting going on with Ruby that may or may not result in a romantic relationship down the line. The team actually worries about his opinion on stuff as well, and Ruby clearly values him as Oscar Pine. Meanwhile, the very person who's helping in his growth is James Ironwood, who cannot shut up about wishing Ozpin was there everytime they meet, and telling Oscar he will basically cease to exist to his face with a big shiny smile. It's unclear at this point if James knows or not about how terrified Oscar is of the merge, as the boy never voices this fear. I think he just wants not to think of it. So even at the end, where James finally says "fuck it, Oscar or Ozpin, i don't need either" and shoots him, Oscar starts coming onto his power, in a scene that's both powerful and bittersweet, paralleling Penny.
Both of them, for their qualities, were chosen by a magical destiny, one capable of beautiful and powerful magic, that they don't want, never wanted and will struggle with with the next volume. Penny's arc is a direct parallel and commentary to Oscar and the way it ends might comment on Oscar's arc. Not in death but that Penny could finally show everyone she was her own person who could choose for herself.
Coming back to volume 8, Oscar has his worst time yet, finally voices his fear of merging with Oz, and comes back from it scarred but stronger, having helped Ozpin trust himself and others and gaining a new ally in Emerald.
But, see where I'm getting at? This is no resolution.
Oscar has briefly shown his fear but at the end of the volume, much like Ruby has done for several seasons, swallows the literal torture he endured for half of it and the fear of imminent ego death due to reawakened magic, and chooses to focus on the positives.
Boy, if he had fallen into the ever after maybe he would have healed too. Or maybe we would have no plot at all bc Oscar and Ruby would have noticed each other's pain, which would have been nice as well, but sometimes therapy has to be brutal.
And also Oscar can't conclude his arc in the ever after because his own is complimentary to Ruby's but also a contrast to it. Ruby wants to emulate her mother and ideal of what a hero is and must learn that she is enough as she is already. Oscar does NOT want to emulate or be his father figure, whose og incarnation was basically THE ideal hero of fairytales. He wants to be enough but doesn't know who he is yet, since everyone keeps telling him to his face that Oscar Pine isn't enough.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
SO anyway. If both Penny (a commentary on Oscar) and Ruby (a direct parallel)'s arcs end with them realizing their own individuality, I 100% believe Oscar's arc will end like this as well.
And when i say end i mean end is just a new beginning.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Before moving to my final argument, let me also briefly comment on how Jaune and Weiss' arcs are similar but different to Oscar and Ruby's. It's interesting because, by main character status, Jaune as the leader of team JNPR, is a lancer and a foil to RWBY and Ruby inside of team RWBY's dynamic, Weiss, as Ruby's partner, is the lancer and foil to Ruby and inside new JNPR/ORNJ, Oscar, as Jaune's new partner, is his lancer and foil.
And both Jaune and Weiss deal with identity but more in a role they want to play as expected to what their family might want, initially, and later as the knights they idealized in fairytales. This is way too long for this post, but again, fascinating. And also Whiteknight slays.
Tumblr media
So, my final thesis:
Oscar's arc will end with him affirming his own individuality over the merge.
So why can't Ozpin also do the same?
The god of light's intention in bestowing Ozma with this method of reincarnation was the positive idea of him never being alone.
And this works, more or less, in different lifetimes. Even in the very first, the farmer who we initially assumed was completely eradicated, still voiced his opinion and reminded Ozma of the good path.
Tumblr media
In later lives, the spirit and the host lived more comfortably, having estabilished an equal partnership.
But... They still end up as one person? They're literally so like-minded that their enormous guilt complex makes one believe he's responsible for everything the others did?
I feel like this is what the story is trying to say, much like what many characters say of Oscar, and it's framed as a bad thing.
And incorrect. Oscar is always "punished" for what his predecessors did because he will be Ozma eventually.
The voice still going by the name of Ozpin feels responsible for everything that happened since Ozma was brought back to life and literally agrees with his own torturer that yep, he deserves all the punishment and pain for it.
Every incarnation eventually reaches a point where they start to identify with their predecessors in such a way that contradicts what the god of light's intention was (then again, we have been shown time and time again that the god of light is not very good at his job).
Instead of a partnership where each soul helps the other moving forward and never los hope, we have a continuous cycle of guilt and self-abuse accumulating. Oscar is gnawing at it the entire time. Who's to say Ozpin, as the professor, also didn't?
And Oscar is going to break the cycle.
As he does that, I want Ozpin to also realize his own individuality.
This is why I want an happy ending for all the incarnates, not just Ozma. Merged they may be for now, in the physical realm, why should only Ozma move on to a peaceful afterlife? All the people who ended up clogs in the ever ticking clock and had no say in it were all people with their own lives, their own friends and families, their own name. And they deserve peace too.

there's a lot of ways reading salem as a cautionary tale is profoundly textually unserious but i think the most gobsmacking one is the resultant batshit interpretations of ozma's form of reincarnation
"the way he reincarnates is actually good because it allows him to change" he's a parasite "being merged with another soul prevents him from becoming disconnected from humanity like salem" he is a parasite "it means he's always experiencing the world through new eyes" oscar is dying

Oscar’s eyes glowing green is weird. The sound effect is clearly the same from when they swap places, but his eyes typically glow gold/yellow. Question is: What’s happening?
And I think I might have an answer… and it requires reworking everything I thought I knew about the merge.
The TLDR of my theory is: I think Ozpin uses magic to delegate control of the body. So, Oscar’s never been able to fully control the swapping process bc he couldn’t use their magic– he has always needed Ozpin’s help to do so. The magic in the epilogue might be trying to force them to swap, to force Oscar to take control of it.
If you want to know how I got to that, keep reading. I’m excited to hear other people’s thoughts on this. ^_^
So, before now, I’ve assumed that their eyes glow because of the god of light. Even the white haired guy’s eyes glow when Ozma takes control for the first time. In the Lost Fable, during the divorce, Salem reforms with the same golden glow.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have also assumed that the eye glow indicated that Oscar and Oz were swapping places. I believe this notion might be incorrect.
My main evidence for this is V7's finale. Oscar is falling, knocked out by Ironwood. Then, Ozpin's voice wakes Oscar up, his eyes glowing golden as he takes control.
Tumblr media
However, he isn't swapping control. Ozpin wasn't in control: neither of them seemed to be. Therefore, the magic must be more complicated than a simple swap.
Another moment that gives me pause is in V6C2. After the train derails, everyone's questioning Ozpin about the lamp. Oscar is able to push through, resisting Ozpin's control enough to provide Jinn's name.
Tumblr media
As we can see, there’s no golden-eye effect. Although, we do hear something: the swapping sound effect.
Usually there’s 2 parts to the swapping sound effect: a hissing sound and a lower echo-y undercurrent. It’s usually heard quickly, not lingering as the swap finishes and his eyes stop glowing. However, in this scene, the sound is drawn out as Oscar fights back– even as violins(?) start playing to amp up the tension. The moment all the music stops and the tension is released, we can assume Ozpin has regained full faculties.
Based on these scenes, I concluded that the glowing eyes might indicate either one of them taking control of the body. In this scene, Ozpin is never not in control of the body. Oscar is just able to resist, holding the body frozen in Ozpin’s expression. But then I realized something.
Outside of this scene, Oscar has never taken control over the body.
Like, I cannot think of another time where Oscar forcefully took over Ozpin or clearly brought Ozpin to control. He’s been asked permission, sure. But, in control???
In these scenarios, Oscar’s role has always been framed as passive, with Ozpin as active. Ozpin can take over Oscar no problem, with or without permission. Oz even asking is a courtesy, if anything. Ozpin can also just swap out and force Oscar to be in control (see V6 when Ozpin hides from everyone as an example).
With this in mind, maybe the eye glow isn't for whomever is in control. It’s to indicate Ozpin’s state of control over the body. Ozpin swaps in– eye glow. Ozpin swaps out– eye glow. V6C2 is the only time Oscar comes close to forcibly taking control. At that point, it might even be impossible for Oscar to do so. Oscar can try to initiate, but Ozpin has to actually do it.
This like. Drastically changed my view of how the Ozmosis works. It also might explain why his eyes are glowing green and what’s happening in the epilogue. So, I started thinking about what is likely the source of the green: his magic.
We know for a FACT, Oscar didn’t gain control over Ozpin’s magic until V7. Given we know the god of light’s magic is what dictates Ozpin’s reincarnation, it would not be a leap to suggest that Ozpin is using that magic when he swaps. Ergo, if Oscar cannot use magic, he cannot fully control the swap.
Under this scenario, my first example makes more sense. Either Ozpin was waking up Oscar (forcing him into control) OR Oscar was able to take control because he tapped into Ozpin’s magic for the first time.
When I watched the epilogue, it reminded me of the V6 scene. The prolonged sound effect, the clear struggle. He sounds like he's in pain. :(
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He says he's resisting the merge, but the merge... it's not exactly tangible?? The merge is a process not a thing. For instance, if I put a dam on a river it stops the water from flowing. The merge is the flow here. What's the water?
I have two guesses as to what these episodes are:
Less likely, but it could be his magic activating uncontrollably. Him resisting Ozpin's influence might make it harder to control. He can't use the magic, bc of course, it makes them merge faster. Doesn't necessarily explain the sound effect, but their first on screen swap was a green color.
The merge is trying to force them to co-pilot, and/or force Ozpin into control of the body. Oscar collapses both times. We could assume it's from the pain, but it could also be because he momentarily loses control of his body.
I'm leaning towards the second. There's only so much we can take from an animatic, with things getting changed in the final product.
Anyways, those are my main thoughts right now. I'd LOVE to hear other people's thoughts or opinions!

Did you see the RWBY volume 9 epilogue?
I'm happy there was more to it than what we got from last year and that we actually got to see characters like Nora Oscar and Ren featured as important characters
I'm especially Happy Oscar actually got to be in it because to be honest he gets excluded so much I was actually shocked he had a part and we actually got to focus on him for once
This also gives me hope that they'll do something similar like they did with cinder ,with Oscar because I believe it was possibly said in a q&a or in a live stream
that originally they wanted to do cinders backstory and volume 4-5 when we thought she got killed off again but they kept having to push it back along with other things they wanted to do for certain characters
and since many think Oscar is possibly not going to make it through his merge and it will be just ozpin/Oz
when it's done maybe we'll actually get to see his past and maybe because Oscar is merging with Ozpin that means his memories are catching up with Oz's memories and will maybe get to see Oz's past too because that's something we've all wondered about as well
and maybe we'll get a hint at where the final relic is because I don't believe the writers are just going to wait tell the last minute to show us were it is I think they're going to hint at it
I don't Oscar part sense he my favorite along side ozpin
what do you think 🤔
Hiya Autumn o/ Thank you so much for your inbox and pardon the late reply.
To answer your first question, yes, I did see the full V9 Epilogue Animatic. TWICE and I plan on rewatching it many, many times because I haven’t recovered from it yet.
I know I’ve been relatively silent these days especially when it comes to this newly dropped animatic. But that’s mostly because I haven’t fully gathered my thoughts on it yet to form a consisive essay.
My head is still reeling from all that was revealed in that short space of animatic frames, particularly the bits about Oscar and what he’s currently going through. As a Pinehead, you just know that part got to me the most because BOI! WAS IT GOOD! Oscar-worthy, as I might say,
So if I may, and if you don’t mind m’fam, I am going to piggyback off of your inboxed message and use this as opportunity to get some of my main thoughts about Oscar’s side of the Epilogue off of my chest. So here I go.
According to the RWBY V9 full Epilogue Animatic…
Oscar’s story with the Merge with Oz has officially started with him isolating himself from his friends while he goes through it on his own, practically dooming him (and essentially Oz as well) to suffer in silence.
Tumblr media
But while that’s how things seem to be starting, if it doesn’t end with a scene where Oscar is going through the Merge but this time he’s surrounded by all of his friends all vowing to stay by side through it all and cherish him for who he is---Oscar---no matter who he becomes after the Merge.
If it doesn’t end with all of Oscar’s friends being there for him during the Merge (ESPECIALLY Ruby) then, like Jon Snow , I don't want it.
I don’t know how Oscar’s story will end.
The way I perceive it, Oscar’s story can end in many possible different ways.
In one way, Oscar’s story could end the way it was originally intended to, according to the natural progression of the narrative.---with Salem being defeated, Ozma finally moving on and Oscar being allowed to live the rest of his days as himself, Merge completely avoided.
Or like a Shamalan movie, it can end with a twist. Maybe Oscar isn’t so lucky and doesn’t avoid the Merge like his predecessors and is changed forever.
Maybe Oscar gets attack by Tyrian and “dies” forcing the Merge to happen as a way to save his life.
Maybe Oscar is taken to the Tree and gets to meet the Blacksmith who decides his final fate in the Merge.
Or who knows? Maybe the CRWBY Writers saw the recent 60th anniversary Doctor Who special and have the brilliance to put a new spin on the whole Ozma cycle where instead of Oscar merging with Oz, the two split apart with either wizards retaining their memories and single identities.
Tumblr media
Instead of Oscar of losing himself to the Merge, he is set free leaving Ozma to carry on his mission to the Gods as himself. So no more pairing him up with like-minded souls. Like Oscar, Ozma is now his own person with his own agency. So even if he died again, similar to Salem, Ozma was still immortal only now he would simply come back in his original body as opposed to the former latter of playing hot potato with his soul inhabiting another poor innocent man or young boy’s body. All this with the extra added bonus that now we have two great and powerful wizards for the price of one. Both Oscar and the newly reincarnated Ozma (who gets back his original form---the one that was married to Salem and equally as powerful as her) retained his combat-ready muscle memory and shared ability to use magic. So Ozma, naturally fights with his trademark Long Memory, while Oscar uses magic freehand without the need for the cane.
That last one’s a big stretch but like all of my past Pinehead headcanons that I’ve tossed aimlessly into the ether of the FNDM community, I’m keeping it on the table of possibilities since it’d make a sick Oscar the Sorceror’s Apprentice Pinehead headcanon AU. Definitely adding that one to the list.
---
Anyways, getting back on track. Through everything that Oscar has been put through in the story so far, the most I want from this whole Merge storyline is that he doesn’t have to go through it on his own and I don’t mean, he’s going through it with just Oz as his main company.
What I mean for that is, I don’t think the implications of what the Merge means has truly sunk in for the rest of the hero team. A part of me wishes to assume that part of the reason why the rest of the hero team seems so nonchalant about Oscar’s whole merge with Oz is because Oscar has never truly been honest with them about how he really feels about the merge.
Tumblr media
The last time Oscar spoke about the Merge with the team was back in V6 when he basically did it in such a “no biggie; don’t worry about me” sort of way that it came off as if he just said it to sound brave in the moment for the sake of the team and for the sake of keeping his own emotions in check.
I say this because as we’ve seen from the events of V7 through V8, Oscar is very anxious about the Merge. He doesn’t want it to happen which is why he and Oz are now fighting to keep it from happening even though it’s already long begun.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bottom-line, I don’t think Oscar has been completely honest with anyone else outside of Oz about how he truly feels concerning the Merge. And now that it’s happening, he’s basically resolved himself to go through it alone. I don’t even think anyone else in the current group; not Nora, not Emerald, not even Ren (who literally has the ability to read someone’s thoughts and feelings through their emotions) knows about what he’s going through.
I wonder if Oscar puts on a brave face whenever he’s with the others and anytime he feels another “Merger episode” coming along, he quickly excuses himself (probably claiming that he needs to get back to his research in the Archives of Solitude) so the others don’t have to see him going through it.
Ren, in particular, because I’m sure if Ren saw Oscar’s pain from the Merge, he would blurt it out. Ren has now become the unsung singing canary of the hero team after his whole semblance upgrade.
Just like how he blurted out that Ozpin was back during the tunnel walk back in V8 following the rescue mission and escape from Monstro, Ren would definitely reveal that Oscar is going through the Merge if he knew he was going through it and having a painful grand ole time too.
Tumblr media
Ren’s inability to remain discrete when revealing another’s true emotions could probably explain why Oscar has been avoiding alone time with him.
If you look at it, Ren is on his own probably stretching himself between helping everyone. It’s also interesting to me that Oscar hasn’t asked anyone else to help look for stuff in the Shade Archives.
Even if Oscar is technically two people in one, that is still a big ass library of books and archives to sift through for even two people. And yet, as we saw from the epilogue, Oscar is ALONE most of the time and I highly doubt no one else offered to help him in the libraries.
I know the Atlesian refugees are a priority but, when you look closely, everyone else is basically sharing the work; helping each other out with something. Nora is supporting folks like SSSN and CVFY.
Same for Ren. Em as well (even though she’s mostly mentioned in notes in the scene in the animatic).
But when you look to Oscar. He is ALL BY HIMSELF.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes, he has Oz with him. But, that doesn’t count. Why hasn’t anyone else volunteered to help Oscar in the archives?
My assumption is because Oscar probably convinced the others to leave the archives to him (and Oz) and prioritize the refugees as a way of ensuring that he’s by himself at all times so no one would have to glimpse his pain from the Merge.
Again, each time a merger episode was highlighted in the epilogue animatic, Oscar was by himself. So my money is that no one knows what Oscar’s really going through.
No one else knows of his mental struggle or pain.
Tumblr media
And why I find this interesting is because it kind of parallels Ruby’s whole detachment period from the others in the Ever After before she went to the Tree and what happened at the Mad Tea Party.
Not saying Oscar will share a similar experience as Ruby. I’m just saying, he’s clearly removed himself from the others and acting alone.
As Ren pointed out, he’s not himself. He’s there but…not there at the same time.
This brings me back to my point. Personally, I do want Oscar pulling himself from the team to hide the fact that he’s going through the Merge to be proven canon.
And I want it to be canon so that the first person to pick up that something is clearly off about Oscar’s behaviour to be Ruby.
Maybe Ruby realizes that Oscar is acting weird and when she brings it up, Ren is probably definitely the first person to reveal that he’s been sensing something off for a while but after everything that’s happened, similar to how he’s currently giving Nora space to work things out on her own, Ren has been doing the same with Oscar.
Tumblr media
He’s been giving the little prince space when if anyone were to look closely at Ren’s expressions, they could probably see his frustration in being the one to know fully well that his friends aren’t entirely ok and despite wanting to help, he still feels helpless because Ren can’t force his friends to accept his help; no matter how much he offers, y’know what I mean?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I feel like some of RWBYJ’s struggles in the After Ever and how they rose to triumph over them could be mirrored in what NOR is going through now back in Vacuo.
Overall, the point I’m trying to make here is that I just want a moment where Oscar is having another merger episode and he tries to go through it alone, believing that he has to, only to get the reassurance and support he needs from his friends.
I saw someone compare Oscar’s merger episodes to Penny’s battle with Watts’ virus back in V8.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And while I didn’t enjoy the forced heavy focus on Penny during that season, I did sort of like how it culminated in everyone coming together to show their support of Penny and reminding her that she is a part of their team.
Tumblr media
That is a type of a moment I want for Oscar. Because unlike Penny, feeling like a part of the team as himself and not just a placeholder for Oz is something Oscar desires.
I want Oscar to push his friends away, believing that he needed to go through this Merge on his own, only to be reminded by his friends in the end that they have his back no matter what.
That he is still a part of their team. That he is still Oscar to them no matter who he becomes in the Merge.
I want a scene where Oscar loses it, possibly even abusing his magic to force walls between himself and his friends only for those said friends to break down those walls and be there for him.
(Maybe even have a moment where Oscar loses control of his magic while trying to fight the Merge and it ends up looking like a moment where everyone thinks it's another Grimm attack when it's actually Oscar whose feelings of the merge have manifested into some kind of monstrous form that Oscar practically cocooned himself inside of).
Y’know that moment in Steven Universe Future where Steven loses control and all of his friends---all the major people he has helped throughout the seasons---come together to help him for once.
Tumblr media
I want a moment where the whole team---Ruby, Nora, Ren, Jaune, Blake, Yang, Weiss and Emerald---all of Oscar’s people are there at his side showing him full support as he goes through the Merge; ensuring him that he doesn’t have to be scared of the Merge anymore because no matter who he becomes in the Merge, he will always be Oscar to them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He’s not Ozpin. He’s not Ozma. He’s sure as hell ain’t Salem’s Ozma. He’s Oscar. Their Oscar
The small, cute farm boy from Mistral who showed up on their doorstep one random night in Mistral and has now cemented himself as one of the most important members of their little team that they will not stand to lose; not even to himself.
I want Oscar to be reminded by his friends that he will be cherished and supported no matter who he becomes in Merge.
Even if Oscar forgot his “old self” due to the Merge, they---his friends, will be there to remind him of who he was because they, as his friends, will never forgot Oscar because to them, he never left.
I just want a moment where everybody group hugs Oscar while he cries about SIX SEASONS worth of repressed tears after all the sh** he's been put through plot-wise. I want it dagnabbit!
Who knows? Maybe Oscar has another painful merger episode and it’s the worse one he’s had since it started and the love and support of his friends surrounding him is what helps to ease him out of it and back to his old farm boy Oscar self.
Just give me one scene like that. That’s all I want.
Don’t know if it will ever come to fruition given the current state of RT and the fate of RWBY as a whole. But hey, still wanted to get that off of my chest.
---
On the subject of the CRWBY Writers possibly showing more of Oscar's past in V10 as he's going through the Merge:
Honestly, at this point, m'fam, it's either now or never.
Now, as in during the events of V10, is the perfect time to give the audience more insight into Oscar's past and who he is. It is practically mandatory at this point that they show it as he is going into a storyline where he's being forced to lose that part of himself. They just have to do it!
Just as how V8 could pretty much be pretty much summed up as another Cinder-centric season similar to V4-V5, V10 could potentially be more Oscar-focused as he's going through the Merge. Like I said, it's the right time for them to do it.
And while I'm unsure of them telling Ozpin's story, maybe that too can be done and do something similar to what they did with Ren and Nora's backstory back in V4.
We got Ren and Nora's whole history in Kunoyuri in an episode that jumped back and forth between the past and the present.
Perhaps Oscar could have a potential episode in V10 where he's having another Merge episode and, as I theorized, he loses control of his magic while a) fighting the Merge again and b) running away/hiding from his friends so that they would've have to see him suffer through it.
So it's an episode that ping pongs between the present day where Oscar's friends are trying to get through to him while he's suffering through yet another painful Merger episode and the past which reveals more of Oscar's backstory leading up to the moment he met Oz and possibly showing other Oscar-centric moments that we, as the audience, never got to see like what happened with Oscar in Argus after his fall out with Jaune (remember we never got to see his side of things and it's something that still bothers me to this day)
Perhaps Ozpin's past is mixed in with it as well as you mentioned and the location of the final relic is actually revealed in Ozpin's memories in a flashback where he entrusted the location to someone. Maybe that person was Summer Rose. Since V9 revealed there is more to Summer Rose's story and that Raven actually knows more about that; perhaps Summer Rose's disappearance is connected to the final Relic or at least the final vault?
I dunno.
Overall, I definitely do like the idea of a potential episode of V10 fully dedicated to sharing bits of both Oscar's past as well as Ozpin's; specifically during his time as headmaster of Beacon when Team STRQ were still students since it could potentially reveal more on where Oz hid the location of the Vault of the Fall Maiden and the Relic of Choice. And if that episode is then followed up by an episode that shows the hero team---all of Oscar's friends actually helping him through an episode of the Merge then even better.
I think that would be pretty amazing. Hope that helps answer your questions m'fam. Let me know.

so i’ve been thinking about oscar and ozmosis a lot and nobody is surprised but anyways
so that entails thinking about the original ozma and his ‘choice’ to reincarnate although it wasn’t much of one
and i want to talk about that!
this is gonna be really long so everything under the cut
SO!
he didn’t know what it would entail and now he’s been thrown into an eternity of dying, being reborn, merge, and repeat which essentially puts them in a constant state of motion, never getting to take a break
but we all know the tragedy of this, immortality is a curse first and foremost and i like to talk about that BUT that’s not the point of this post. because i’m already planning to go further in depth with that <3
but i want to talk about the reason he’s in this situation, the one who gave him this ‘choice’
so for a while i was like. wait. why would the gods bring ozma back if they made salem immortal so they could never be together until she learned her lesson?
but then i thought about it. and i realized that’s exactly why they choose him.
because of course there were other human heroes they could choose from, why would they choose ozma? it feels like he’d be the least likely choice because of salem, she’d never learn her lesson if they brought him back
but then think about it from their side. what incentive would anyone have to come back to life? everyone they know and love would be in the afterlife with them, they have no need to return.
except oz would. because how could he say no with the knowledge that the person he loves is still there, alone, forever?
how little of a choice he already have—who would decline a job directly from the gods to save humanity—now with the knowledge that she was alive? how could he possibly say no?
he didn’t even get to think about what would happen if he and salem fought. he didn’t get to think about what this ‘life’ would entail because he heard that she was still alive and he could go back to be with her.
and then the love they had turned to hate, only now that he was all alone he could truly realize the horrible consequences of that choice. only now could he realize how cruel this really was.
that the brief time of love that he’d experienced was in exchange for an eternity of suffering.

You know, watching all the volumes I missed out on in one go has been really interesting.
Initially, I thought Ruby being with Oscar was maybe just gonna be a one sided ship on Oscar's behalf?
I thought it was cute as heck, and I loved the idea of two kids, with such extraordinary pressures put upon them, just... being normal dorks with each other.
Maybe that's boring, but that was kinda why I liked it, you know?
They're both two characters that have so much to live up to, and their circumstances are the furthest thing from boring....aaaand yet the relationship they could have would just be the epitome of the "couple that gets nervous to even hold hands" trope.
On my way to get caught up, seeing everything up until last weeks devastating cliffhanger...I don't get people saying they can't see the Rosegarden implications?
It's not subtle about it at all. Hell, even people I know ship Ruby with someone else (or no one at all) have pointed out that there has been a spotlight on how important Oscar and Ruby are to each other.
Even if the characters don't totally get why that is themselves, the narrative and animation choices keep drawing back to it, you know?
Sure, you could point out Oscar and Ozma merging and the can of worms that that argument brings. That's fair.
That being said, however, I don't think they're going to end up being merged.
Even if they come close to it, I don't see it being permanent or that Oscar would lose himself or become a second wheel with Ozma taking the reigns.
With all the emphasis put on Oscar being his own person and Ozma genuinely not wanting the incarnation process to continue....why would the story pull a 180 and seemingly go against its own messaging? Being your own person and breaking toxic cycles seems to be an important theme here. Especially with what we've seen in V9 so far.

So a clip for episode for came out and final some talk about oz and Oscar situation but I'm still kind of upset nobody in the show has asked Oscar or Oz about it or how their marriage is going like if team Ruby can acknowledge this and tell it to someone else trying to explain things to them why is it that nobody can have a direct conversation with Oscar about it 😒
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But I am glad that curious cat does mention that it isn't that helpful of a way to reincarnate like the smart thing even though it sucks we wouldn't have gotten to know Oscar as a character is to just have the person fully take over that other person's life
when they reincarnate or like with the maidens and how the maidens power and muscle memory transfer is instant from the next maiden once they get the powers but they don't get that maiden's memories cuz their version of getting the maiden Powers is a watered-down version of Oz's curse
that extends from him giving them parts of his magic and it affected every maiden like his curse
They should have just had an instant take over or instant thing where the memories transfer to the next host with the muscle memory like with the
Don't get me wrong I love the dynamic between Oscar and Oz but their situation truly is unfair and I was really hoping when they were in Atlas that they was maybe somehow figure out to separate them I don't think they would just completely have Oscar out of the show I think they would have maybe less him with team jnr so he could still grow as a character and help the other fight and maybe be the voice of reason for ozpin to get him the cooperate with others, and get the others to cooperate with him again kind of like he did in
Tumblr media
volume 8 like Oscar could still have a character if they separated the merge truly is an unfair curse like Salem gets to just die and come back instantly whoever has merges with the times ends of losing their life and personality as a whole even though parts of his new like-minded soul affect his
personality. I still can't help but wonder what changed over the years from where we saw it where Oz lived in harmony with his like-minded souls to where it's now where he reincarnates his personality just completely takes over that person and they're gone or the past soul that was there is gone it's real confusing and like I said I wish they would talk about the merge more in the show

Sometimes RWBY annoys me
Ozpin was a tragedy. The terrifyingly young headmaster of arguably the most famous of the Huntsman academies, shoved into the place he was in solely because of Ozma.
People conflate them, but they're not actually the same person. Ozpin hates himself, even after death... but there's no real evidence that Ozma does.
He's horrified that he's taking over Oscar because that was never meant to happen, he hoped to be the last just as much as previous Ozcarnations did... maybe even more, considering where he was and the protectiveness he feels for his students. Oscar, given a few years, could so easily be a Beacon student, after all.
He ran, he locked himself away and yet that still wasn't enough to stop the merge. OZPIN did not ask Jinn the question shown and we don't even know just when he was given the particular information that that even happened. Should he have shared it? Yes, maybe. But then again, he'd only known team RWBY and what's left of team JNPR for about a year when they all jumped him for not telling them and we do have canon proof that when he trusts people [Lionheart and Ironwood] they can and do betray that trust for their own reasons.
What's worst? He's fighting a war he no more signed up for than Oscar did, yet everybody seems very set on blaming him, as the last Ozcarnation, for the sins of them all.
Ozpin might be the voice, but that's merely because he was the last. EVERY incarnation of Ozma is a tragedy, it's one of the shittiest reincarnation methods in fiction. 'You'll never be alone', no, but the process gives the new host exactly no choice in the matter.
Basically... Oscar is a victim, but so was Oz. And it's quite likely he might not even have been in double digits when it happened.

Voices AU: Does Ozma have a spirit? Does Salem (during the moments where her body is destroyed)?
Ozma had a spirit, back during his first Ozcarnation. At least up until the merge, after which he vanished completely and Ozma 2 with all the memories was all that was left behind. And then the process repeats when Ozma 2 dies and so on and so on until you’ve got Oscar with spirit Ozpin following him around
Salem doesn’t have a ghost when her body is destroyed because she’s not actually dead. Her “spirit” is still tied to her body, even if it’s destroyed
