Today in labor history, July 6, is the anniversary of the Battle of Homestead which happened in 1892 near Pittsburgh, PA. Here's a summary of a lecture I watched about it.

The Steelworkers Union went on strike against Carnegie Steel who, under leadership of Henry Clay Frick, wanted to double hours and half wages. The mill shut down July 1 and the workers had the support of more or less the whole town. The conflict came to a head in the early hours of the morning on July 6, when the hired Pinkerton detective mercenaries tried to make a river landing and force the Homestead mill to open. Historians don't know who fired the first shot, but the workers and townspeople were able to successfully prevent the Pinkertons from taking the town and reopening the mill after several deaths and injuries. The mercenaries were run out of town to the rail station and forced to leave.

Unfortunately, they won the battle but not the war. Soon after, the US National Guard was called in and reopened the mill. Most of the striking workers were fired, the steel and iron union was dissolved, and the company got what they wanted: half pay and double hours. Later on in the early 1900s, a few steel companies were bought together and merged to create the first billion dollar company in the US. The steelworkers Union didn't recover until the 1930s.

Pascal is a jaloro pepper and since his parents are so shit at naming him, they straight up put his pepper type as a name. but yes, they're a real thing and they're so cute. Jaloros are just yellow jalapenos

I also tried to make him simultaneously look like a pepper and a mango to complement how Pepperman looks like an apple. but also while drawing the sprite mock ups, I realized that at a certain pose he sorta looks like a pizza slice. I win either way bfsjbgksjr

He does not want to be an artist or a chef but he does have the inherited naturality of both which landed him a job as a barista. and of course, he could only work for one place which is the Noisette Cafe. It kinda gave him a little trouble getting hired cuz 1.) Peppino does not like how his son is about to work for his rival's girlfriend and 2.) Noisette is fucking terrified of Pepperman. You think she's gonna let his son who is one foot taller work for her 😭

But still, Noisette is way too kind that Peppino forgets why he has a problem with her and Pascal is way softer than both his dads surprisingly. It's ironic how Peppino and Pepperman are these barbarians of people and their kid ended up being the forestcore aestethic. He is never beating the allegations lmao, he's gonna be THAT softboy

But don't get me wrong, he can be a combination brutal and berserk when pissed off. He still has the same strength as his dads, mind you. Mostly Pepperman's brute and Peppino's street smarts

And their patience too.

Plants being plants man, they're really weird. Pepper is simultaneously mom, dad, uncle, and aunt lmao. Tho Pas calls him both mom and dad because it would be so fucking funny and he calls Peppino papi

He's very tender mostly cuz he did not inherit Pepperman's narcissism but he did inherit that kindness that Pepperman tries so hard to hide. And of course, Peppino's anxiety and impulses.

As a kid, Peppino is the brooding hen between him and Phil. He'd be the one who double checks triple checks if it's safe to let baby Pascal do his thing.

Pepperman on the other hand, he holds baby Pas like a rubber ball. Peppino tries not to get his kid killed because of how his wife holds it 😭

Oh also in a few of em, you can see little interactions with @beefy-the-stronk's Jude. They're simultaneously cousins and siblings. Also don't question it. Just imagine there's two Peppermans gbsjbgrksj

Also Gustavo is the godfather. I only had Pascal for three days but I would die for him

Do you ever wonder about other cities the bats could've nabbed had things gone a bit differently here or there?

Something I do that I feel a lot of people do is imagine if their own city was stolen. I live in the United States which makes the question complex of who the bats would ask for permission to buy a city. The President? The Governor? The Mayor? But anyway, I live in Pittsburgh, PA which during the time period that the game is set in was an industrial leader for steel. This creates a massive conflict of trade interests with the balance tipped in disproportionate favor to Mr Iron. The place is nicknamed Steel City or Iron City which only adds to the joke.

Anyone else from here can attest the streets are already a labyrinth, so the Masters have no need to scramble things. Honestly, I think at this point a journey a mile under the earth would actually improve the road quality, or at least it cannot get worse than it already is. The sky is always so dark and gloomy that if the sun went missing, no one would notice for at least a week. Good luck trying to get anyone to change the name of something, though. Every single place already is called something like "the place where the movie theater used to be" or, most recently, the stadium formerly named Heinz Field. Instead of one stolen river, you have three, and good luck trying to get people to call them anything else either. People will fight and die over the pronunciation of "Monongahela"

And I will personally kill the Masters with my bare hands if they change my bus route

Ok but honest question sorry for being stoopid is the darklies kids group sometbing that happens after the initial “final” battle in the PA au? And how do they meet Lloyd?

HHUDWJDW I HOPE THIS CLEARS UP ANY CONFUSION I MAY HAVE CAUSED ON PA AND RPA. your questions aren't stupid at all!!! as for your questions! yes! the darkleys kids do end up taking the main role in pa for the time being (part 2). after the "final" battle of part 1, lloyd is found to be alive and rescued by zane, who helps him keep a low profile. lloyd meets brad because he's a barista at the coffee shop lloyd frequents, brad takes a liking to lloyd (unknowing of his troubled past) and lloyd meets sally and gene thru brad. things somewhat go downhill from there. the ninja take a step back as they are kidnapped by the overlord-possessed brad in part 2, but they return to the focus in the part 3 i have yet to work on. and about the three aus, i do *not* plan to make them all into fics or anything like that, as that would be way too challenging for me and i simply do not have the time to do so, as passionate i am about them, and as much as i'd love to. i would be happy to post about them from time to time though! like, little bits and pieces. you can send asks about them, but i do not guarantee an answer all the time, as making long written posts about it all proves very exhausting! not to say i wouldn't love to see any questions you all have! it's just that i can't exactly say for sure i'll answer each and every one! (still would love to see tho!! :D) hope this clears stuff up! (OH! and also!!
