Halk
Tumblr media
Halkım ben,
hani şu sayılamayan,
hani şu çok halk.
Soluğumun öyle bir gücü var ki
sessizliği deler geçerim, dinlemem,
filiz verir, boy atarım,
zifiri karanlık demem.
Zulüm, acı, ölüm, şu bu
bir anda gizlerse de tohumu,
ölmüş gibi görünürse de halk,
döner gelir elbet bir gün nisan ayı,
kavuşur baharına toprak,
kızgın eller dağıtır atar ağır havayı.
Ölümün içinden yeşerir yaşamak.
Pablo Neruda

That Time Garcia Marquez Interviewed Neruda... and a Teddy Bear
Tumblr media
Sometimes I tend to forget the immense variety of historical documents that the internet has to offer. Among them is this gem of about 20 minutes offered by TeleSur, the Latin American public television, in which the Colombian writer Gabriel García Márquez interviews the Chilean poet Pablo Neruda.
It is an interview that is just over 50 years old, having been filmed by Televisión Nacional de Chile a few days after Neruda was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature on October 21, 1971.
It is a conversation in which García Márquez, who would win the Nobel Prize in 1984, asks Neruda about his opinion on the relationship that poets and writers have with reality, especially when success arrives.
Neruda's response:
The poet has a tendency to move away from real life, from the reality of the present. I envy the novelist's condition that has, in one way or another, this facility for storytelling, for telling things that poetry has abandoned.
The author of "One Hundred Years of Solitude" nods and affirms that the reason why he continues with his work as a journalist is precisely this: it obliges him to confront reality.
I think this interview is wonderful from several r:
For the remarkable eminence of the main figures involved
For the deliberate desire to show a united front between two leading intellectuals in the South American scene.
But also for an unexpected ending in which Pablo Neruda brings out a teddy bear and makes it talk.
Never in my life would I have thought that one day I would say the phrase: "There is a video on YouTube with Pablo Neruda and Gabriel García Márquez playing with a teddy bear."

Pablo Neruda: I do not love you ...
Neulich bin ich dank eines Films auf das Gedicht „I do not love you …“ von Pablo Neruda gestoßen. Ich finde es so unfassbar schön und möchte es daher gerne mit euch teilen. 🙂XVII (I do not love you…) I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz,or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,in secret, between the shadow and the soul. I…
