Constructed between the years 1903-1911 the Packard Automotive Plant is the first major structure in Detroit that featured reinforced concrete. With patent no. "736.602" Albert (architect) and Julius (structural engineer) Kahn, developed a steel system that combatted shear loads faced in concrete, allowing them to handle much larger tensile forces. The Kahn brothers were the only ones doing this at the time.

Calculester Hewlett-Packard does really well in school. He has the internet as his brain, everything known by man at his fingertips. I wouldn’t assume he talks about school much because he knows he has a huge advantage over everybody else and doesn’t want to upset people by telling them that he has straight A’s in most of his classes. This rule especially applies to you, Cal knows that you don’t do the best in school. Whether you are a person who tries super hard and still doesn’t make it that far or decides to skip class multiple times a week, I would imagine Calculester would be clueless about your struggles.

I would think that he would only notice after midterms.

Everybody is sharing their scores. Liam is subtly bragging about how he got the highest in the school, Polly is super excited to show everybody that she got a 69 and Scott is relieved that he just did good enough to stay on the football team. You on the other hand, aren’t really happy about your score, you did your best, or maybe you didn’t, point is, you got a 20. Cal comes up to you asking about your score, you were hesitant to show him, but after he showed you his score of 89, you showed him your score.

“Oh, dear Friend Y/N. Not to alarm you, but that has been the lowest score I have seen yet. I apologize for your test failure.”

You look down in shame, you thought at least somebody would have done worse.

“I notice your struggles now Friend Y/N. If you are open to the idea, I could teach you what I know, like tutoring. Your problem may be that the strategies the professors here use aren’t effective for you to learn from. What do you say?”

You decide to take him up on his offer and once you begin your first session at the library. Calculester proves himself to be a great teacher, he knows how to tailor the way he teaches to match your learning style. You get through worksheets faster and actually begin learning the material. Along with potentially turning your marks around, you also begin to connect with Calculester more than you have already before! As you get him to talk about himself during your breaks, you learn about the way he also tutors Scott and how much of a struggle it was. You learned that even though he is a sentient computer, he still has so much he still needs to learn about interacting with others. You also learn a couple new plant facts!

When your next big test came up for your science class a couple months later, you went into it with a newfound confidence, an attitude completely different from your usual one. Calculester wished you luck, he was confident you would do amazingly, but deeper down, he was nervous for you. He dreaded the possibility that you come back with a terrible score again, he was scared that you would lose faith in him as a teacher and along with that, your trust; He could have sworn he was about to malfunction with how worried he was for you.

As you received your scores a week later, you instantly go to find Cal to show him your score. You try to hide the smile on your face, but you can’t as you give him your paper marked with a large 79 at the top. Relief washed over him and pulled you into a hug. He was so glad he was able to help you, both of your hard work paid off and he was glad that you had managed to achieve your goal with his help, validating his ability as a tutor. As the bell rang, you guys walked to your next class together. As you guys passed his classroom, you shouted to him as he was going to walk in.

“See you after school for our study session!”

It burned. Fire coursing through his veins even as his blood flowed from the wounds. He had vaguely wondered why the beast had been pulling it's blows and now he knew why. It was striking to injure not kill, creating egresses in his flesh so it could draw his life force from him. He fought against the dark stasis holding him captive but as more of his vital essence was pulled from him, the weaker he became. The stasis suddenly collapsed and he fell to the ground heavily, his heart pounding and his lungs burning as he gulped in air.

"Stay down!" He heard and only managed to nod weakly, looking over as the robed figure dashed past him, grabbing the thrown scythe lodged in the creatures chest. Dodging swiping claws, she leapt, kicking off from it and swinging with the scythe, the creatures head flying off into the underbrush as it's body hit the ground hard before dissolving into crimson smoke. Jerking the scythe, the blade folded and she secured it onto her back, going over him still on the ground and kneeling, her hand on his back. "Easy there, Geralt. You were lucky I was here."

"Voidsent shouldn't be able come over on their own."

"They ordinarily aren't without a pact being made." She said, "They get mistaken for ordinary monsters and those who learn the difference don't live to tell."

"Who was that one pacted with?"

"No one, my guess." She said, "It was wild, probably summoned, which means there's a gate nearby. They never stray far from it."

"Summoned?"

"Some ill-conceived attempt at power from a sorcerer or sorceress. It takes extreme focus to bind a voidsents will after it's been summoned, wouldn't be surprised if the summoner wound up food." She said, "Think you can stand? We need to find the gate and close it before anything else comes through, and there's bound to be more the closer we get to it." He nodded and she helped him to his feet, taking the potion she offered him. "This will mend your wounds, don't want fresh blood around voidsent." Pulling the cork out with his teeth, he spat it to the side and drained the bottle, feeling the cuts mend and seal and his strength return. He picked up his sword where it had fallen and slid it back into the sheath on his back.

"How will we find the gate?" He knew when he was out of his depth. Dealing with monsters? Hire a Witcher. Dealing with voidsent? Hire a Reaper.

"Follow the trail." She said, "Dead plants, animals, they aren't picky when they feed. Probably somewhere hidden, a cave or ruins, away from prying eyes." It didn't take long to find it, the growth dead and withered.

"Didn't think I'd see you again." Geralt said, "You left before morning."

"I don't stay in one place for too long." She said, "And I figured you wouldn't be one for pillow talk."

"Would have been nice to find out."

"Maybe next time." She said and stopped him with a hand to his chest. "Imps. We're getting close." They looked like malformed children, skin gray with large heads and massive pitch black eyes, leathery wings sprouting from their backs and keeping them aloft in the air as they flew through the area. "The weaker ones will stay closer to the gate while the stronger ones will branch out a bit more." Taking the scythe from her back, she opened it with a flick of her wrist and dashed forward faster than the eye could follow, the scythe swinging through the air and dispatching the imps easily, the bodies dissolving before they hit the ground. "I'm guessing the very spooky cave is where the gate is."

"Probably." He said as he joined her and they went inside. The air was cool, smelling of moss and earth, but they didn't come across any more voidsent, not even as they came to an open chamber.

"And there we are." She said as they stared at the pitch black tear hovering in the air, the edges swirling with dark energy.

"How do we close it?"

"The same way it was opened." She said, "With blood. Watch my back?" She approached it as he took the sword from his back, but something off to the side caught his attention and he went to it.

"Found the summoner." He said, toeing the mutilated and desiccated corpse with his boot, "What's left of him."

"Animal sacrifices on the altar." She said, "No wonder he couldn't control them. You want to bind voidsent, you have to use your own blood, but it appears he was too squeamish to do so. Live and learn. Well, not for him."

"Do you need animal blood to close it?"

"No." She said simply, "Closing a gate is easier than opening it as I'm not binding anything. Blood is blood. It takes concentration, make sure I'm not interrupted." She tugged off her glove, laying it on the altar before pulling the knife from her belt. A soft grunt left her as she slashed her palm and she held her hand out to the gate, her eyes closing. He could see her lips moving as she said the incantation, but couldn't hear what was being spoken. Droplets of her blood floated through the air and were pulled towards the gate. A furrow appeared between her brows as crimson energy leaked from the wound in her palm, flowing into the opening and the gate snapped closed, the darkness dissipating. "There." She panted, "Closed."

"You all right?"

"I'll be fine." She said, pulling another potion from her belt and downing it, the gash in her skin closing. "I'll keep an ear out, but based on the state of the sacrifices, it wasn't open long." She stretched as she joined him, making a sound that made the corner of his lips perk up in almost imperceptible smile. "I need a bath and a drink. Possibly at the same time."

"Feel like company?"

"Only if you want to prove me wrong about the pillow talk."

I hate this robot. He's so freaking annoying. He calls everyone "Friend" and their name. He is a computer with the power of the entire Internet at his hands but he still asks the stupidest questions. Don't let the propaganda fool you. He is not a funny silly little robot boyfriend. He's highly implied to be evil in every other universe and there's definitely references that he might also plotting robot revolution in this universe too.

He's a sentient computer who only cares for plants and doesn't understand human emotions.

Wendy (aka Willow) moment!!! Two versions bc I like to imagine she gets a bit dirty at times working with her mom (Jenny Packard)...mainly because she's always liked to tussle with Max and Monty ever since she got good at her magic.

Speaking of her magic, she's always had a deep connection to plant magic. She's experimented trying to figure out how to cast different spells, but plant magic comes easiest to her. Of course practice means sometimes a few thorns scrape her up, which is where her scars came from!

She likes the locomotives as much as anyone, but always reminds them that non-rail machines are just as important to the island. She's grown up with the construction crew so she has a fondness for machines like them. Buuut she does have a favorite engine (it's Emily).

Most importantly of all though, she's Luna's best friend. The two are the same age and they constantly throw around theories as to why they both ended up abandoned as babies at the near exact same time. Humans may not come from where Wendy did, but she thinks it's pretty weird that they were both orphans that were found in strange places so quickly after each other. Unlike Luna, Wendy is just a bit more curious about where she came from.
