ROGUE - 2 beards inspired by Gale Dekarios
I saw this lovely beard created by Padme4000 at Nexus Mods for Gale.
I wanted to have a similar style in my game so I recycled some textures from my Beard Pack 01 and paired it with this moustache that was converted from The Sims Medieval. Close enough?
V1 is a bit cleaner, V2 is scruffier.
I tried to find a Gale-like hairstyle to put on my beard model for the pictures... I haven't found one that's quite right though.
Credits:
imamiii for the beard textures used
Omega for converting the moustache from The Sims Medieval
Padme4000 for the inspiration

About Mods for BG3
preface:
Baldur's gate 3 is still getting updated, we never know how mods previously installed will behave when the next update roll out, so keep in mind that modding your saves is a risk, you might loose your save, corrupt something, or as it happened to a lot of people, get locked out of new update things ( like the new kissing animations which are broken for some people ) so be aware of this when installing mods
Installing mods for BG3:
first thing first, use the bg3 mod manager NOT vortex, Vortex is known to cause issues with some bg3 mods.
here is a tutorial on how to setup and use the BG3MM
here is to download the latest release of BG3MM
your first installed mod is going to be the Baldur's Gate 3 Mod Fixer , it is mandatory for the grand majority of mods, if you ever modded your game only to be greeted by a weird party of naked men instead of the character creation screen, that's because you didn't have the mod fixer, so love yourself, install it.
now your game is set to be modded, go to Nexus and go nuts!
(note that reading the mod description before you install a mod is the still the best way to know how to avoid a conflict and install a mod properly ! )
Making mods for BG3
first the tools :
Islib toolkit
BG3 multitool
notepad ++
blender ( i use the 3.6.4 version personally )
Norbyte's BG3 GR2 importer/exporter
padme's blender addons
and here are some tutorials i've found that are very good to learn the basics
first:
Padme4000 's BG3 Install GR2 plugin then Import and Export example
hair mods:
Padme4000 's BG3 Creating Hairs Post Patch 9
Bububull's how to set up a hairstyle mod using my blank template ( only shows the code part )
armor/outfits : ( some of the code parts are outdated, but all the rest is very useful )
Druundev's How to make custom armour for BG3 - Part 1 MESHES
Druundev's How to make custom armour for BG3 - Part 2 TEXTURES
Druundev's How to make custom armour for BG3 - Part 3 FINAL
Adding Cloth Physics to any Armor
other/misc:
bg3 wiki 's modding ressources is a well of knowledge ! and FULL of very useful informations
If you can ☕Support me on Ko-Fi ☕ it helps a lot!

How did you learn how to mod? Do you have any suggested tutorials or guides or overall tips to learning? I’m very interested but i have nooo idea where to start, especially for a game as new as bg3
I'm still learning new things myself all the time! A discord server with a modding community of really helpful people is Down By The River - I've picked up a lot of information there.
Also, Padme4000 has a lot of great tutorials on YouTube.
I've made some tutorials myself, too. [Link] [Link] [Link]

"Here Comes My Girl"
Jeff arrived early for the reservation. He's only ever punctual when Shepard's involved. There's just something about being there to see the room change when she walks in. 1080p wallpaper resolution available on DeviantArt

Here's a little detail shot for ya. I know it's not a mod update, but, I figure it's still relevant to your interests. Many thanks to the force of nature that is Padme4000, as I used a composite of 2 of her Joker models for the base of this paintover.

Sorry if this is a bother, but I always see you uploading you (lovely)(gorgeous) head model edits for mass effect and stuff and was planning on doing a bg3 for myself. Since I saw that you were working on one (Lauren Bacall right?) I was wondering if you have any tips for people trying to do the same?
omg no bother at all!! thank you so much!
there is the down by the river server, full of very talented people and helpful resources and tutorials to help you along!
idk how experienced you are with blender but heres the doughnut tutorial which is a handy intro to the programme itself
for bg3 modding specific tutorials i really recommend padme4000's channel, she has video tutorials on importing/exporting meshes into blender, as well as extracting all the files you need from the game itself and links to the programmes you need in the descriptions of her videos
a nexus link to more of padme4000's resources and tutorials
here is another video on bg3 mesh editing
i hope these are a good starting point! honestly all my blender endeavours have been trial and error since i started messing around with it last year to create custom heads for mass effect :) im definitely not an expert but if u get stuck with anything im happy to try and help! good luck!

Am I right in thinking you use an older Gale model for your gifs etc? There's something a bit different from the current ingame version but I can't put my finger on it. Maybe it's his eyes or jawline? I dunno he just looks like an older model! Or it could be the lighting lol
good eye, anon! yes, i'm using gale's face model + eyes colour from ea, but with his current face texture and hair. the mod was created by the immensely capable @padme4000 and is available on nexus.
i, personally, like it more than the one larian changed it to in one of the later patches in early access. i don't know how many people have followed the game and the character changes since the beginning of early access, but larian did change gale's face/eyes/hair after two/three years into early access and i could never grow used to the new one.
it just didn't look like gale to me if that makes sense. someone close enough, the changes not so great, but always just... a bit off. like an imposter.
Tumblr media
the left one is ea gale, the right his current design as it is in the vanilla game now. i hope you can see better what i mean.
his ea headmorph that i'm using has softer features: the jaw isn't as square, but more rounded, the nose shape is slightly different, the lip shape, too.
ea gale used to have a lot more moles and scars as well, including a very painful looking one on his neck, but that was sadly toned down and sometimes entirely removed with the new skin texture. (which looks good btw, i just wish they'd kept those things!)
overall, ea gale feels to me like a less "perfected" gale and i liked how perfectly imperfect he was then.
a lot of people complained in ea about gale's looks: too plain, too ugly, too boring, too just-some-guy, and i felt the changes to him came from there and that never sat quite right with me.
having said that, i want to clarify that i'm not trying to argue which version is "better". i'm just expressing how i felt about it then and how feel about it now. these are just my own personal feelings on the matter.

are you in some modding discord or how did you learn to mod bg3? love your mods!
Ah thank you!
I’ve been casually modding since I was a kid, so I walked into it with some basic understanding - but if you’re a true beginner do not fret, it is absolutely possible to learn. That’s not to say you’re going to jump into script creation in a week- but I think one of the most encouraging things I have to offer is that it actually can be really fun to learn how to mod a game.
You have to be ready to do a lot of testing, and sometimes it can get tedious, but really the best way to look at any kind of mod is that it’s just one big puzzle - and by tweaking and testing or trial and error, you’re putting more and more pieces together.
My tip for anyone looking to learn how to mod in the beginning - find a mod that’s similar to what you want to accomplish, and take a look at how they did it. DO NOT COPY THE CODE - that’s what sample mods are for (you can find a bunch of these on nexus by searching either sample or template) - but you can examine it! What does the file structure look like? What vanilla game files were replaced? If it’s code based, compare the code of the mod against the vanilla game’s code and note the differences. Make tweaks line-by-line and see what changes in the game to get a better understanding of the code.
When you’re starting out - it’s great to have a goal in mind - but don’t make it only about the end goal. For example, say I want to change Gortash’s appearance file but I’ve never done that before. If I’m too concentrated on the end result - I get frustrated very quickly when I either don’t understand code or my edits don’t work in the way I thought they should. This could lead me to give up. So, instead, let’s say I know that I want to eventually edit Gortash’s appearance file. So I pull up the correct file and play around with the code. “Oh, this makes the texture disappear if I change this line, oh my game crashes now lol, oh cool that actually DID change his hairstyle - now I know it’s that slot.” It takes longer to accomplish your end goal, but you don’t get frustrated AND you actually learn to UNDERSTAND how to do it so you are able to DO MORE in the long run.
For BG3 specifically, there is the Down By The River discord which offers a lot of good support. I’ve not really personally used it but I know they are a really active community and also a good resource for info!
There’s also the Bg3 Modding Wiki. I have found it a liiiiittle difficult to use its navigation, (some pages are rooted within others and might be a little hard to find). I recommend using the search function to look for a term related to what you’re trying to accomplish.
I also recommend Padme4000’s video tutorials - they definitely helped me get up to speed with certain types of BG3 mods very quickly!

how did you make your bg3 character?? i'm aware it's modding them but what's the process like? i'd love to learn but it also scares me haha. tiva is really pretty btw
thank you!
as for the modding process, i export a head of my choice from the game and then i edit it with the sculpting tools in blender. once that's done i import my new mesh into the game. that's the short version of it a least lol.
although it includes a couple extra steps, i followed this tutorial by padme4000 on how to import/export and arrange everything with the mesh. the process when not replacing a head between races is more simple than the tutorial shows. but you'll need to fix the neck seam before importing, where a solution can be found for that on a certain discord server (having info locked behind discord servers isn't ideal but ya know)
i will say though, as of yesterday when we were shown the overhauled character creator, it is probably best not to start editing head meshes until full release as there is a good chance that full release is going to break head mods big time

How does one mod in ring? I would Like Tips, please.
i used these tutorials by druundev & padme4000 and this one by legend0fthefall and picked out what was useful to me. the ring is technically a glove btw -- i'm sure there's some way to make rings visible in game but i'm not the right person to ask about that. i used some other resources left and right, there's a lot of other tutorials and lists of game assets and whatnot on nexus + yt. it looks really intimidating at first but it's not so bad once you get a grasp on how the files interact. you can also take other people's mods apart to see how they work, that's super helpful.
word of warning though: i had a problem with my mesh. i took the ring from gortash's gauntlet and just moved it onto a different finger. unfortunately that fucked up my entire mod necause the weights on the mesh were wrong and that makes things no worky. i couldn't figure out what was wrong for an entire day until i asked other modders for help and someone was kind enough to fix my mesh for me -- without them i'd still be hopelessly stuck. so if you have problems, go join the official larian discord server and @downbytherivercommunity and use the search function or ask your question in the modding channels.
also drink some water occasionally and don't spend your entire day on the floor in front of your pc it's bad for your back and will give you a raging headache. good luck :)

Hey Emma , how did you get started on making ME mods? :) Like are there resources you used to learn how to change meshes and shit? I somewhat understand textures rn but i want to take it up an notch:):)
So here i go asking you because as far as i can see you're good at it:)
hello! i'm flattered that you sought me out of all people, i still feel very new to it and like i'm doing the wrong thing most of the time 😅
i don't even remember exactly how i started, but i do know @padme4000 helped kickstart me and has continued to help since. if she can't provide help, i'm sure she would point you in the direction of where you could find help
additionally, there are discord communities such as me3tweaks (modding for the whole trilogy) or mass effect modding, if you'd prefer a broader perspective
there's also this guide that has pretty extensive instructions on basic modding, including guides on how to use the modding resources you'll need as well as terminology
outside of that, you can always try look up guides/tutorials through search engines and youtube
hope that helps! good luck!!! 😁
