Chainsaw Man Chapter 148 not so early analysis

Bit later than usual cause college and I wanted to look into something from part 1.

Fumiko has been continuing the trend of being absolutely useless in every situation shes ever been put in to the point I feel confident in saying she CANT fight. This clearly isn't a kobeni situation where she can fight if necessary because she hasn't even really been trying to fight or protect anyone. It's the point I've actually started to believe the theory that Fumiko is actually Aldo in disguise.

For a refresher Aldo was one of the american assassin brothers who got picked off at the beginning of the arc by Power and Yoshida respectively. However Aldo survived the entire arc and has been awol ever since. He's also surprisingly durable since he survived both of these attacks with minimal injury.

He may or may not have been hit by halloween, Given his facial expression I it seems like he's faking it especially since Halloween was used on the doll devil and so should logically only effect her dolls which Aldo is not.

I went back through these chapters expecting to find a smoking gun that could prove this to be true. Specifically I was looking for a scene where he or one of the brothers was holding an ID card which could be matched against the way Fumiko holds it, But I did not find that.

This is the best I found but it's also standard practice so it isn't good evidence. Back to the chapter itself, It's clear now Quanxi is just going through the motions

She's clearly been lacking when it comes to combat and athletics in these previous few chapters in comparison to her original appearance. She's been sort of stumbling through these chapters with the help of her regeneration. Which is a bit strange until you keep in mind; Quanxi is more than likely SUPER depressed. The last time we saw her before this was when she fought Denji and the previous time before that was when everyone she cared about got murdered by Makima. It's probable that she blames herself for it because she took the job to kill Denji and thus got her and the girls into the situation that killed them in the first place.

The transition between these two pages is so good I had to do a double take because my immediate though was that Quanxi was the one who got her arm cut off. But then obviously it's Asa's. You can feel the inspiration from good movie transitions here.

This whole scene is very cool and also very interesting because Asa is able to block Yoshida's sword with her barehand. She got such an amp from the chainsaw fire attacks that she can do this. It also means she has basically the same base stats as yoru. Which is to be expected but I think is interesting.

It seems like this page was drawn before the rest of the one in this sequence because Yoshida is busting through a wall here despite the fact Room 606 was just destroyed; Thus there should be no wall to bust through to escape onto the street. Interestingly the other personality is absent in this scene entirely. We never see Yoru and Asa in the same panel which is an interesting choice. Its probably a creative choice to only have one of them around in major action scenes. Feels like a good time to mention a theory I saw on twitter. I've been trying to find it but I've had no luck. If I can find it it'll probably be apart of next week's post. To summarize the theory; Asa and Yoru are the same entity. Not two separate beings in one body. Asa the human we met at the beginning of part 2 has been dead since the justice (fire) contract user killed her. The Asa we see now is a split personality reconstructed using the intact memories in the body's brain at the time she became a fiend. If true it means Asa is an alternate persona created by Yoru in order to cause more conflict within herself (constant internal warfare) and as a coping mechanism due to the chainsaw devil massacre in hell. Its an interesting theory I want to put on the board incase something happens with it especially since Yoru is growing in strength rapidly. Probably how Black Pochita was schooling them during it.

Chapter 250 Fight Choreography PbP

A play by play of Yuta, Rika, and Yuji vs. Sukuna.

In 249, Yuta began the fight with a Thin Ice Breaker; in this chapter, he continues by using Dhruv's cursed technique on the miniature Rikas. The small Rikas crate a domain or spatial path invisible to Sukuna; Yuji follows up Yuta's attack with some punches.

Rika crashes down from above with a punch!

Sukuna walks into the path left from Dhruv's CT as Yuta uses sky manipulation to throw Sukuna off-balance and the three of them prepare the next attack.

Yuta begins casting Uro's sky technique again, hiding himself from Sukuna.

Rika throws Yuji towards Sukuna. Yuta reappears in Sukuna's blind spot, stops using sky manipulation, and picks up the sword containing cursed speech.

Sukuna stops both Yuta and Yuji's attacks, and even Yuji's kick affects Sukuna's soul. Yuji holds Sukuna's arm, trying to give Yuta an opening to attack.

Sukuna uses dismantles to parry Yuta's swings while also preparing to cleave Yuji! He uses both applications of his slashes on two different targets at the same time.

Yuta stops Sukuna, finally using the cursed speech within the sword, and quickly grabs another blade containing Uro's CT.

Yuta sends Sukuna flying and Rika catches him with two punches, squeezing Sukuna between her fists, but he sustains and blocks it; Rika then prepares another attack before Sukuna can react.

Rika smashes down on Sukuna's head while Yuji and Yuta race to catch up to them. Sukuna's seemingly unharmed and makes distance between himself and the others.

With more distance between them, Sukuna has room to perform his amped dismantles* while Rika prepares to attack from above once again.

Sukuna finally catches Rika on the third punchj. He kicks her face back while he uses cleave on her right hand then retreats backward.

Yuta, Yuji, and Rika all surround Sukuna! Rika prepares a left hook this time; Yuta readies Charles' CT which allows him to draw the future. Yuji punches Sukuna some more.

Yuta immediately produces a depiction of the future and dodges Sukuna while punching him in the face.

Rika has recovered her fingers and attacks with her right hand again while Yuji palm thrusts Sukuna away. Yuta grabs the sword containing Uro's CT, maneuvers around Sukuna, finds a sword containing cleave, then prepares the attack.

Yuta positions himself directly in front of Sukuna while Yuji moves out of the way. Yuta continues using sky manipulation to throw Sukuna off-balance as he closes in for one more attack.

Yuta hits Sukuna with cleave.

Note:

Take note that Yuta's domain allows him to bypass the five minute copy and unrestraint CE restriction, but his CTs become random and placed within the katana. Because he has to use a katana for the CTs, Gege includes so many panels of Yuta picking up Katanas.

A way to identify cleave: Sukuna will make direct contact to the target. Gege includes a certain onomatopoeia/sound effect to depict it's damage. Compare the cleave used against Rika to the one Yuta uses. Gege only showed one effect for Yuta's to signify how little damage it did, and inversed its color from Sukuna's.

As noted by Significant-Ad-1655: on the seventh page in this post, Sukuna may have been deflecting Yuta's blade with his bare hands.

As noted by Asian_Persuasion_1: the dismantles performed where Sukuna thrust his fingers out may or may not be amplified. I believe so mostly because of the effort Sukuna took to perform this specific pose.

a little page about how I’m doing my current comic!

1. and 2. are interchangeable, but I have a little list of the scenes I currently have planned, and what happens in them. After finishing one page and posting it, I do step 1, which is lie in bed that night figuring out the formatting and what the next page will look like, so it’s locked and loaded and ready to draw the next day.

2.5 is if I suddenly have a brain wave while out n about of how to configure something I was struggling w and want to write it down before I forget.

3. This is where I put down the basic shapes. For B&theB, I’m using the title card for exposition, the main body of the page for the events and playing out of last ep’s setup, and then the last panel for a cliffhanger/setup to more drama. This planning happens in step one, because I don’t want to start drawing until I know what i’m gonna draw because i HATE having to erase stuff or redraw it >:/ especially because I’m using a Real Graphite Pencil for this so I can erase more completely, BUT it gets so smudgy and gross so fast.

4. Go in w my two pens. I have a big one and a small one, so I do the big lines first and then the smaller lines and details. This part’s the best, i LOVE getting those crisp lines down. it also has the greatest potential for frustration, if i make a mistake, but part of my goal with making this comic is learning how to leave my mistakes in the dust and NOT CARE (@nelwritesnovels experienced my self-pep-talk monologues and cries of frustration when I mislaid some lines in ep 4)

5. Color! I also add shadow with my black colored pencil at this point (shading in black feels so unnatural after so long of purple and blue...but it’s what we have to work with until the plot introduces more colors ¯\_(ツ)_/¯), and more ink if I want to amp up the drama.

6. find the good even lighting (very difficult if i finish after sundown), take a picture, edit it in LineCamera, and post!

7. struggle with links

8. haunt my blog waiting for someone to give me attention for my efforts :DDDD (that part is one of my favorites)

Re-Read: Autocracy, #1-12

Okay, how to respond to Autocracy… I will admit this is one of those books I had never read before. It’s a lot and I’m finding it quite difficult to decide whether I like it or not.

Ramondelli’s art works quite well here, with some shots being atmospheric, and I’ve always liked how he draws winged characters. The darkness and scale of his art suits the tone of the story, as I think this amps up the edge more than the previous instalments, and we see far more places. I also think this book does a more effective job of establishing the scale of the pre-war conflicts, especially recognising just how much of the population is ‘neutral’. The pace also means that there is always movement, without necessarily being frantic - the 12 issues gave this book more room to breathe.

It’s interesting character-wise for Hot Rod/Rodimus, though I’m going to have to keep an eye on how this is integrated going forward. His approach to leadership earlier on in the book, an opposition to ‘big picture’ idealism of the kinds practiced by Megatron and Optimus, is rather interesting - though that seems to drop off towards the end, as he falls in line with Optimus more. Starscream’s growing irritation with Megatron is a sudden jump from Origin, but also makes quite a lot of sense, as this is a fairly self-indulgent version of Megatron.

Some of the continuity issues were there even for me, though, and that’s with a fairly incomplete knowledge of the continuity. The little thing is Springer knocking about pre-war, but I think Roche’s Sins of the Wreckers backstory came later, so that’s not avoidable. No, the big thing is Starscream being a Senate delegate despite the… events of Megatron: Origin, which is very jarring. I think that could have done with a bit more explaining, also just when Starscream got into politics, as I don’t remember that coming up previously? (I’m starting to realise how little concrete backstory I have even for some relatively major characters…). I can probably find in-story reasons to justify it if I reach hard enough, but it would be difficult and I suspect it was just a miscalculation.

Speaking of characters, this book is a mixed bag. You get a lot of characters, but on the other hand if you were hoping for gradual character arcs happening on page, then this is not the story for you. By the time this book gets going both Megatron and Zeta Prime have gone off the deep end and Orion Pax is most of the way there, too. This is particularly bad for Megatron and Zeta in the sense that it cuts short the time they get to be more grounded characters, which could have been narratively valuable. Rodimus’ characterisation is interesting, but I also went back and forth about whether it’s going to add texture as my re-read goes or, or whether this is a characterisation that was largely dropped by later writers. In a way, it felt like I was reading a character who was already at the end of a character arc that we didn’t get to see.

This comic fell off for me towards the end, especially when the Matrix reappeared. I have very mixed feelings about the Matrix in IDW1, which might become a bit of a theme... The book shifted from the rather edgy tone it had earlier to go more optimistic (?), which I found a bit jarring. The jump from early story Orion Pax to Optimus Prime thinking it’s a good idea to line up all of Megatron’s challengers in a tightly-knit column outside the defended walls of Megatron’s new base, seemingly because of the symbolic value of those panels rather than any in-story decision, was weird, not simply because it makes the Autobots look silly, but also because it’s like I could feel the author’s hand trying to pull me towards a more hopeful version of the narrative.

My feelings are still mixed, but it was certainly interesting. Spotlight: Wheelie comes next, and I think I I remember it being in rhyme?

3/1/24 "Gikeiki" and "Phoenix" Vol. 7 + 8

Anyways, this time around, this narrative screamed 'factions are bad, can't you tell?' you can see it multiple times around the two volumes, especially with Benta and Obu's descent into different factions, and how said faction developed a particularly nasty civil war (see what I did there?).

Despite that both beggars came from the same place, they chose a side, and then became enemies because of it! I think this sentiment can be applied to Japanese political parties (or any political party, for that matter) and even Japanese minorities (Ainu, Burakumin). It's effectively saying "we're all the same, why do we need to fight?".

Tezuka shows this fallout as especially fierce, which you can see in panels were the soldiers cut into eachother, civillians are killed, and even pages are slashed! What a nice use of style here. He also emphasizes action lines and the shading on smoke, fire, and blood in these panels to amp up the inensity. He is very, very anti war.

I also want to note that this portrayal is quite unlike Tezuka, in my opinion, he has lots of stories where gore is acceptable but he really has only inserted it here. I think maybe he did that because at the time of writing, protests were going on? Perhaps he saw something that changed him?

Lastly, the monkey and the dog also reminds me of that momotaro mythos, and by extention Gikeiki! All of these stories were really interesting, and it was a pleasant contrst to the mythos Japanese people believed as absolute truth. That leads me to wonder, however, how much Japanese people truly believed their mythos in comparison to fictional stories? I believe another student mentioned this in their blog post, but I feel like mythos has a way of influencing people, even if it is just a joke. For example, I think Momotaro's main story is working together helps you achieve anything you want.

Dynaco Repair Post No. 5

Late Friday, 12-22-23

I figured I'd head things off at the pass and start a new post before the last one started refusing photos. lulz. This will probably be the last of these for awhile, as once I've got the EL34s, we're fully back in business, at least as far as Dynaco goes.

I promised at the end of the last post I'd do some more cleaning and futzing with the case and back panel on the PAS. The paint on the cabinet is pretty much flawless, and the faceplate has most of its lettering, which is a plus.

Here's a few photos from the final assembly/cleanup of the PAS.

The label on the back of this one was a bad photocopy (literally) and had been glued on with some kind of gunk. Ended up taking a single-edge razor blade and it disintegrated into dust with enough elbow grease. Cleaned the surface with isopropyl and let it dry, I'll install the sticker next.

The new sticker is gorgeous, and is very thick vinyl. Looks great!

Like I said, the paint is still in great shape:

And this faceplate has most of its lettering, and cleans up easily.

Put the nuts on the control shafts, got the plate aligned, and tightened them down just snug. Now it was time for the knobs, and then we are DONE!

I will make the next update to this post when the EL34s arrive. I'll install them and let them burn in a little while, and set the bias with my VOM like I have since I was 16. I'll be 65 in a few weeks. lulz.

This cart was a huge leap forward for EZGO when it hit the market three years ago, and now the 2023 model features the same beautifully face-lifted front cowl from 2022, improved/more premium front (and rear) seat cushions, and standard LED headlights. It is extremely similar to the LIBERTY (#2 on our list) except it has a traditional golf cart seating pattern, so it does not feature four forward facing seats.

The EZGO Express S4 is one of the best-looking carts on the market right now, and will impress your friends and neighbors alike with its premium looks and ride quality. It includes a very generous 8-year manufacturer's warranty on its lithium batteries and comes with a rear seat kit, nice lift kit and 23” tires from the factory!

5. Yamaha Drive-2 EFI QuieTech

You’re probably wondering, “Where the heck is a Yamaha Golf Cart on this list?” And now you have your answer! Inching up two spots on our list from #7 to #5 on our list for 2023 is the Yamaha Drive2 EFI.

We are disappointed that Yamaha hasn’t yet facelifted the overall look of their bestselling golf cart. When you compare a Yamaha Drive2 to the newer Club Car, EZGO & ICON offerings… something is left to be desired.

Yamaha still makes an amazing, affordable and reliable golf cart, with many accessories available for it. But the lack of a Lithium offering from the Japanese Giant, and rather stale looking body design (especially compared to EZGO and Club Car) have kept Yamaha further back in our rankings this year.

One feature still carrying the torch for Yamaha is quality and reliability. And the QuieTech EFI (Quiet Electronic Fuel Injection) powerplant featured in the gas version of this cart is no exception. Electronic Fuel Injection is a huge improvement over carbureted carts, and this particular QuieTech EFI is the quietest in history; boasting the lowest decibel output of any gas golf cart ever made.

The Yamaha Drive2 gets up to 45mpg, which is 23% better gas mileage than the previous Yamaha Drive (G29) Gas models. And being a gas cart offers the convenience of being able to refill your cart on-the-go rather than waiting for charge-up times. Some of our customers SWEAR by gas carts for this very reason.

Another big plus for the Drive2 is that it has tons of aftermarket accessories available since it has been around for a few years now. The Yamaha Drive2 (and older Drive/G29) carts can also fit larger tires (up to 20.5" tall tires) on them straight from the factory, without the need for a lift kit. If your Yamaha cart is older though, we recommend adding new HD springs to avoid any rubbing that taller tires can cause with saggy suspension (especially if you have a rear seat kit).

One awesome bonus about the Yamaha Drive-2 is that it shares a frame and about 90% of its components with the Yamaha G29 (DRIVE) that it replaced in 2017. So there are tons of golf cart accessories available on the market for this cart.

6. Club Car Onward Gas

Clocking in at #6 on our list is the Club Car Onward Gas golf cart. Similar in many ways to #1 on our list, the only difference between that cart and this one is that this gas cart is powered by a punchy 429cc Kohler EFI Gas Engine producing 14hp and a top speed of 19mph (rather than Lithium Batteries found in the HP Li-Ion).

The Onward Gas features the same automotive-style headlights with DRL (daytime running lights) and a more "edgy / boxy" look compared to the rounded body lines and distinctive bumper of the old Precedent carts it replaced. All Club Car Onward carts all feature modern independent A-Arms with Hydraulic shocks, for a more comfortable ride than ever before.

7. STAR EV Sirius 2+2

The Star EV Sirius golf cart is high quality, edgy looking and continues to provide a smooth ride to owners; but not much has changed again on this model this year (or in the past few years), so it has remained a bit lower on our list. But this is one heck of a cart!

When the Sirius (named after the brightest star in the sky) was introduced in 2017, it was a big leap forward for STAR Electric Vehicles. With its sleek design, cutting edge (futuristic) looking body & front cowl, automotive style headlights, and coil-over shocks; this cart hit the market aiming to impress.

Even though the cart hasn’t seen substantial updates in the past few years, for 2023 it is FINALLY offered with Lithium Batteries! The Sirius is definitely a good purchase, and comes straight from the manufacturer equipped with:

Automobile style digital dashboard/speedo, full color display

Self-canceling turn signals with side mirror indicators

Locking insulated trunk with drainable cooler

Independent suspension with Double A-Arms

8. Club Car Tempo

Clocking in at number 8 on our list is the Club Car Tempo, Club Car’s latest fleet cart offering (made primarily for the golf course). As the Club Car Precedent began to get a bit long in the tooth, the Tempo came along back in 2020 and refreshed Club Car’s golf course offering with a revised front cowl, more comfortable/premium seating material. This is now the fleet cart of choice for many golf courses around the United States. And because so many of these carts are used at Country Clubs across the nation, used Club Car Tempo models can usually be found at a reasonable price.

The Club Car Tempo is available in Gas (14HP, 429 cc Kohler 4-cycle EFI), Electric (48-Volt DC), and Lithium Ion (4.7hp AC) variants. And when it comes to other accessories, the Club Car Tempo has a wide range of upgrades and golf cart parts available, making it a good buy if you’re looking to customize.

All of these factors make the Tempo a staple on our list for 2023.

9. EVOLUTION Classic 4 PLUS

Evolution EV, based in Corona, CA, has really begun to take the golf cart industry by storm. Introduced to the market in the past few years, the Evolution Classic range of carts come in both 2-seat and 4-seat configurations. They also come in “Pro” and “Plus” trims. The trims are very similar, but while the Pro trim offers a simple speedometer readout, the PLUS trim comes with a few more upgraded features.

The Classic-4 Plus model is a 4-seater golf cart (2 front-facing and 2 rear-facing seats). It comes standard with a steel tubular frame, luxury 2-Tone seats, 9-inch touchscreen (with back-up camera), USB Outlets, and industry leading 110AH 48v Lithium Golf Cart Batteries. The cart has a top-speed of 25-mph, and the company is proud of this fact. It also includes a premium steering wheel, PPG paint, premium 14” golf cart wheels and tires, and a rear cargo space beneath the rear flip seat. The Evolution Classic-4 Plus really packs a punch!

Evolution Golf Carts all come standard with premium components compared to many competitors (although most major brands are now stepping up).

The only issues we can seem to find with the new EVOLUTION Classic carts are that the stock seats seem a bit cheap / lacking on cushion and premium material finish. The 14” wheels on low profile golf cart tires also provide less meaty rubber than you would get with 12” or 10” wheels on low profile tires; resulting in a bumpier ride than competitor carts.

Overall, this cart is a great bang for the buck if you are looking for a lower-cost new golf cart option. The fact that you can buy a brand new lithium-powered golf cart for under $11,000 is impressive to say the least.

Evolution carts also feature an industry leading 5-year manufacturer warranty.

10. Garia Via 2+2

The Garia Via line of carts are the “Mercedes of golf carts”; literally. Mercedes-Benz and Garia partnered back in 2017 to create the world’s most luxurious cart on the road. Mercedes ended up leaving the partnership, but Garia came through to deliver an extremely luxurious line of carts with high-quality European made materials used throughout the construction (fine leather, real carbon fiber, etc.)

The Garia Via 2+2 is now offered with lithium batteries for 2023. The cart has an output rating of 3kW (4 Hp) with peak power of 11kW (15 Hp). Garia Via carts come standard with a Curtis 375-amp motor controller, and Onboard Delta-Q charger.

The year 2023 is exciting in the golf cart market! Industry titans like Club Car and EZGO are stepping up their game to improve their offerings, and newer brands like ICON Golf Carts and Evolution EV are bringing a healthy competition to the market, and challenging the status quo.

This list took many months to curate, and included feedback from customers and seat time in all of the above vehicles. As always, there were other honorable mentions (offerings from VIVID EV, Tomberlin, Advanced EV, and others) that did not make the list this year.
