I recently took a trip to Arizona and loved the sculptures and bright colored paintings I saw. I wanted to buy one but wasn't sure if I had enough room in my luggage for it. Instead, I did a little research when I got back home and decided to paint the wooden dragonfly I got that was made by Alex's Puzzles in Pennsylvania in the style of Alebrijes, a style pioneered by Pedro Linares López.
I want to do a clay quail too sometime. Not sure when I'll get around to it, but it's on the list. The quails in Arizona were SO CUTE!!
So I said I was going to get more information out about my last sculpture of 2022 until I had the head painted... but I didn't do that until the end of January 2023! So, without further ado:
2023 Sculpture Recap: Antoinette!
Antoinette Gallowslilly is a character I came up with sometime between 2012-204. She is a dullahan / reanimated knight who's body is basically reconstructed out of tanned leather, a partial suit of plate-mail, and various bones (mostly her original set, but if you look at my old sketches, she has bird-ish feet). Her girlfriend inadvertently got her framed for a royal murder, but was also the one to resurrect her in her current form with dark magic. They are broken up now but are on friendly terms.
Her most distinctive feature is her head isn't really attached, beyond some shadowy magic. Kinda typical dullahan-stuff, tbh. I had only visualized her in black and white before, so this was a fun to figure out what color her skin, lips, and emotive, inexplicable hair wisp should be. I want to sculpt a whole version of her sometime, but the head will have to be enough for now (particularity since my plan to put magnets in the base of the skull didn't work out as well as I had hoped).
Let’s see if this works now cause apparently using the ones I got from posting to instagram refused to upload(if anyone wonders I was able to send the images to Discord & I saved them to my ipad so it’s easier to post on other places) some how even uploading to DA sta.sh had issues
This is an egg sculpture I painted, it’s not finished but it’s almost done. These four pics are my best attempt at getting a good pic & are slightly edited so the colors look similar to the real thing since the photos colors would look a little off. Like the black isn’t actually black it’s a very dark blue that looks nice as a night sky.
This is a possibly mass produced sculpture for a painting place or something.(Just guessing) Someone donated a bunch of similar & different sculptures at least 4 years back or so.
I used acrylic paint on this, some of it might look odd cause the paint was blended some by being a certain tone/shade being brushed over a lighter tone. I used most of the paint(that wasn’t purple) so that didn’t help. Also didn’t expect the body to be blue, was originally going for purple before changing my mind.
I managed to finish most of this by the time I had to pack up to leave. The staff at work mentioned a turtle, there’s a turtle sculpture on one of the desks for the staff so unless I end up working on that I’ll work on the egg again.
It's finally finished! I made this sculpture of Ratchet and Clank about 5 years ago, while in school, and never painted it. From pieces of it continuously falling off and losing it over the years, it never got painted...until today. 😊 I'm happy with the painting part of it.The sculpture itself is a bit wonky, but eh, I worked with what I had. 😅
Self-taught sculptor Romain Langlais turned to bronze, a metal he now incorporates into works that are inspired by nature rather than man. His pieces visually pull apart the natural objects that surround us—building works that appear as bisected rocks, boulders, and tree trunks. These sculptures showcase glistening bronze protruding from their insides, unleashing the perceived inner energy of each object.
As I continued to work on the rock she sits on, I remembered that her left hand was sculpted to be braced on something and I had yet to line that up with anything. I had partially planned for this, having previously baked a long piece and set it aside. I still needed to create smaller rocks out of Apoxie Sculpt to brace it and attach it to the main rock, but I moved quickly to the initial painting phase.
By mid-June, I had decided on a color scheme for Cari, opting to go for a goat native to Greece. I started with a more saturated, warm brown, but found I was happier with a grey base and used a dry brush technique to apply tan highlights.
I used a similar dry brush technique to dark the stone > apply lighter, weathered highlights > give the effect of green moss/lichen. Almost all of this was done with water-based craft acrylic paints, except for mix of water, paste, and fake moss I applied at the end. I think these clumps could look better, but I am content with the approximation of realism.
She's almost finished here, but I had one more idea planned. Tune in at the end of the week for the last stage of this sculpture, before we move on to the next project!

Astera
(Monster Hunter: World)
made by hand primarily from paper
(also floral wire, toothpicks, epoxy resin)
28” x 20” diameter
My largest miniature yet and certainly the most densely constructed. This piece took me 5 months, chipped through well over 1k blades, 4 pads of bristol paper, countless sheets of cardstock, 3 bottles of glue, 48 LEDs, and a liter of clear cast resin.

I kept a weekly journal documenting the process for free reads on my Patreon over here: https://www.patreon.com/collection/60826
