ok i know i have been shitting about being in love and such, so here's a list of things that made me believe/want to be in love (for a second or a few mins):
saw a tiktok of a guy cooking things that could help his wife get pregnant + regulate her hormones for pcos (hits way too far at home since i have pcos too)
maggie saying 'i do!' during their wedding too fast before keith even finished his words
maggie's vows to zach saying that he made her realised that she was already complete, only him made her realised that when she has always thought that zach is the other part that made her as whole
keith's vows to becky saying in every wedding he went, when he saw sb is kissing all he could ever think was kissing her, when he saw sb is reading their vows all he could ever think was him reading his vows to becky and when he saw the pair loves each other so much, he could only imagine him loving becky so much (CRYING)
tyler keeping up with saf's quirks and self (even joined her too and supported her for everything that she do) (GREENEST FLAG)
shaun and lea compromising in this one episode and shaun apologising to lea with this one cardboard saying "ure doing everything right i love you" when they had an argument due to shaun questioning lea's way of doing sth (hes autistic so he's very particular)
tyler describing safiya in a colour of 'mauve' instead of just black, and 'warm rain' instead of rain for the weather that described her
'you light up my world, gave it colours and a meaning'
when chidi and eleanor literally finds each other in every life.
chidi has never been so sure that eleanor's the one for him when he's anxious and indecisive as hell
when men started watching and doing stuffs their girl likes so that they can understand whats going on
(tbc when i remember more)

Ooh okay promo time!!
Oop a girl in the ER, back to patients where we need to figure out what's wrong (I mean instead of planned patients), entirely at least.
Uh ohhh
Oof Lim I think it would be better for both of you, and everyone else, to at least be a little better than that xdd
Ooooh a discussion/confrontation (not in a bad way, hopefully) between Shaun and Lim 👀👀
Looks intense o.o
The episode I mean
I'm thinking maybe the talk will be at the end and it will end well, or well-ish at least? Idk though we'll have to see 😬
So yeah! That's the last of my last thoughts, now it's time for the. . .
REVIEW
I loooved this episode! We got to see some new pairs, and some old pairs, and it was a switch up of format with all the related patients and teams. Very interesting! We also had the Shea angst 😭😭, which is awful, but they'll work through it <3. Right now though, it's best to just feel their feelings :( :/. Poor guys <333.
So about the case over all, I thought it was super interesting! They're all technically connected but also complete separate cases, though they have mostly the same start conditions (like, premature and all that). It was a great narrative device for the different pairs of people, and of course fit with the general baby theme this episode :).
First off, Shaun and Lea. I feel sooo bad for them 😭😭😭. The acting is amazing, by the way. Their sadness just feels so real :((. I'm sure it'll work out eventually, even if they can't have biological kids, but it's heartbreaking to see them go through this 😭😭. I'm so glad they have each other though, them supporting each other and not blocking each other out (that's a lot of 'each other's but whatever lol) ❤️❤️❤️. And besides the sadness, they were so cute and excited in the first scene :DD 🥰🥰🥰🥰. The excitd part of course makes it more heartbreaking, but whatever xD. Anyway, in interesting to see where their story goes next, with this part of it I mean. It's sure to be a hard road <33.
Jordan and Glassman, like I said, I'm not surprised didn't work easily together. But kind of like how Powell and Shaun were doing last week, they can challenge each other's ideas and make them better, so that's good :). They needed both of them to do it, and they did manage to overcome a huge obstacle and succeed <3. I'm proud of them, and I'm so glad it did work out :D. Plus that part of Glassman telling Jordan thank you for helping him keep hope? VPBOWNUXBWLJD amazing 🥰🥰🥰. Or not giving on hope or whatever, you know what I mean xD.
Powell and Lim! They were fun this episode :D. Again, they had some bonding, and Powell telling Clay to bring Lim food was sly, and sweet lol xD. Even if that conversation was probably horribly awkward for Lim, I'm glad they have each other that they can talk about this stuff with, even if theyre not in exactly the same situation :)). It looks like Lim will have to confront her feelings about Shaun in the next episode though, so that's sure to cause some tension. But I'm honestly thinking they're going to work it out, and at least partially make up. Oh well, we'll see ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
Also this guy is WAY BETTER THAN THE OTHER GUY. If only because it's an actual date lol. But AHH I'm so happy for them :))). Mostly Lim, admittedly xDD, but I think that's warranted. She is the main character of the two of them, to be fair lol. But yeah, I'm really happy for her, they're sweet 🥰🥰. Idk if it'll last last or not, but I'm here for the ride :).
Park and Morgan were cordial this episode lol!! Wild I know xD. Also yes I'm leaving Asher and Jerome for last, you can't stop me xD. Anyway, it was TENSE between these two this episode lol, and it's certainly gonna be rough still in the future (I think I even glimpsed something about that in the summary of one of the next few episodes lol), but I'm glad they're making up, at least a little bit :). I mean, she's inviting him to breakfast so he can help her judge sperm donors XD. That's pretty close if you ask me lol. Like, pretty intimate (platonically I mean) for someone you just made up with. So, I think they are gonna keep reconciling, and who knows? Maybe they will get back together in the future :). Or, maybe they won't! But still, it seems like things are looking up a bit on their front :)). For once xDD. Anyway, yeah, love them 🥰🥰.
Finally, Jerome and Asher :D. Like I said, I'm leaving them for last, let me have this lol. Besides, I can do what I want xD. Anyway, AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH 😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
I LOVED THEM SO MUCH THIS EPISODE 😭😭😭🥰🥰❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️.
Okay okay, lol, hoo, I'm fine xD. Anyway, I wanna say again that it's totally fine to not want kids, or to want kids, but people who are opposites on that don't tend to work together. They just want fundamentally different things, and it hurts, but that's okay. So a big reason I'm so happy here is just the fact that this won't cause problems between them xDD, and they'll stay together (even if a breakup wouldn't have been immediate lol).
And also just because they, I can want my favorite couple to have kids okay xDD.
(btw I have many favorites they're not my number one out of all my fandoms lol, and maybe not even of the show, they might be tied with Shea, idk)
Anyway lol. The chicken callback as really sweet 🥰🥰, and BOTH OF THEM SINGING 😭😭😭?? They're (the show) just out here trying to kill me, aren't they xd. But yeah, that scene of Asher singing the same song Jerome sung earlier to the baby? Amazing, 10/10, I love them with my whole heart <33. Anyway, they ended on a good note, so while this does leave the kids thing open for the future, I don't think I really have much to say about specifics of where they're going next story-wise :). Presumably kids, and maybe/probably marriage at some point, but who even knows if that would happen during the run of the show? Eh, anyway, for the immediate future, I'm just excited to see what their next storyline is. And their individual ones! I'm interested in a more individual storyline for Jerome, even as a side character. I'm just thinking that as a supporting who's in a relationship with a main and interacts with them (like bro was the only nurse in the teams of two lol xD), the group of mians that is, it wouldn't be unreasonable :). Anyhoo, we'll see!
Overall, I really loved this episode. There were so many great moments, and I loved the change up of format for the case(s). We did have the sadness of Shaun and Lea's storyline, but it was balanced well. And sometimes, you just gotta have a little sadness lol. It's not a show without angst xD! Not one I'm watching anyway lol. Anyway, I also just really love all my children 🥰🥰. There was a good spread of focus today, which I really liked :D. Plus the cases themselves were different and interesting! I can see a lot of storylines being set up and continued, and many that are continuing are kind of also set ups because it feels like they're moving into the next phase. So, I'm excited to see what comes next! I'm sure it'll be great :).
So yeah! I absolutely adored the episode, I thought it was amazing. Next week looks tense, I'm really excited! This has been my review of. . .
The Good Doctor, Season 6, Episode 7: Boys Don't Cry
I loved it! It was so well-executed. I'm super interested in seeing how everything plays out in the next episode! I'll be back next week with my review of. . .
The Good Doctor, Season 6, Episode 8: Sorry Not Sorry
See you then!

I apologise, but the rule is that cursed images must be shared.
A pair of aesthetically very pleasant photos of John O’Hara (Tugger) and John Ellis (Deuteronomy) in their chorus costumes - Australasia tour, late September 2010.
Actors’ comments (and one more photo) below the cut.
On these photos, Lea Salonga (Grizabella) commented, “Wrong. This is all sorts of WRONG!!!“
John Ellis replied, “this was his last show!!!! I want him to go out with a bang!!!!”
Shaun Rennie, who had been Munkustrap up until a couple of months before, commented, “Disturbing..... and yet kind of sweet!”
Apparently it was necessary to escalate all the same, and get Mungojerrie and a shaven Tumblebrutus in on the action (Rarmian Newton and Brent Osborne)...

The photographer, whom we must hold equally culpable, is Matt Edwards, Quaxo/swing and Tugger cover.

Please, like/reply/reblog if you post about the items bellow and I’ll follow you 😊:

New Amsterdam
Pose
The Good Doctor (I’m more interested in Claire and Shaun as individuals and as a pairing, but I’ll follow if you just post about the show in general, except for any stuff including Lea, Breznick or Melendaire because I prefer not to see them on my dash... again, no offense. Melendez is always welcome, tho <3)

Friends (N O T here for people talking about Ross as if he was the devil and the others were saints, I’m okay with constructive criticism of all of them, though)
The Lord of The Rings
And if you happen to like This Is Us, New Amsterdam, Pose and Jane the Virgin (at least part of it, lol) and ship Kevison, Sharpwin and Villadero, let’s be moots because they’re my faves 😊 <3

The first time Claire talks to Morgan, it doesn't go too well. The second time? Not much better. If one thing is certain, it's that they got off on the wrong foot. Morgan is a pain in Claire's ass; the less she talks to her, the better... At least until they get paired up for a major project that forces them to learn to cooperate. Good Doctor Finale SPOILERS
The writers really expect me to give a shit about Lea and Shaun after they killed who they killed?!!
Were those two REALLY supposed to make me feel better because Nooo. I have so much beef with this show right now. I probably won’t even watch the next season because WHAT IS THE POINT.
First of all they did Carly HELLA wrong. She was a great character and a nice pairing with Shaun.
Second why do they keep fucking with Claire and her loved ones. Can my girl ever just be happy damn.
Third I really don’t give a shit about Morgan she is the worst character why not kill her off.😒😒😒 Idc she’s not redeemable no matter how much they try to make her relatable.
Finally After all the things Lea said to Shaun and vise versa. I dont seee this relationship working out. I feel like both Shaun and Lea deserve someone better. She shouldn’t feel obligated (even though she said she doesn’t) to date him, and she shouldn’t feel bad for saying no. Shaun deserves someone who doesn’t view him as a handicap, or a struggle. He deserves someone who appreciates ALL of him.
With that being said fuck this show, I am done. They killed an amazing character for no reason. It is bullshit. I’m out.✌🏾

The Good Doctor 2x09
I was neither elated nor sad when it ended.  I mostly felt uncertain how to feel, esp. about the pedophile suicide, which is probably what they were going for. I also feel like this episode exemplifies how TGD is still figuring things out.  There have been some really tight, briiliant S2 episodes, but also some confusing character shifts and frustrating missed opportunities.  2x09 had many firsts or FINALLY! moments, but there’s still things that I hope they work on more.
The Good:   GROUP INTERACTIONS!!!
This is *BIG* bc it has bugged me how separated the S2 cast has been.  Glassman/Shaun and Shea scenes have been separate from the hospital cast and from each other.  Heck, Shea haven’t even TALKED about Dr. Glassman’s illness on screen.  The residents are always split btw Melendez or Lim cutting off all the competitive/camaraderie development among different pairs of residents for weeks at a time.  More group scenes like the fun bet would help character development.
Tumblr media
These scenes seemed like the beginning of SQUADS that could become great elements distinct from the magic of any pair in the group.  I hope they become part of the show.
MEMORABLE PATIENTS
Tumblr media
S1 had so many standout guest stars as patients, whereas as I’ve complained before S2′s patients have seemed rather forgettable.  These 2 actors quickly sold their characters and their respective problems as real and serious. Kudos!
THE FUNNY.
Neil trash talking Lim about his superior mortality rate & Lim trash talking him right back was cute, funny & believable.  These surgeons have big egos that are great humor material.  Shaun winning the bet and putting the car in reverse instead of drive, helped offset the mega creepy pedophile case.
THE MEH.
Inconsistent dialogue quality.  Lim, Melendez, Aoki, Morgan & Shaun got some great lines/moments but then others like Glassman and Lea I felt had very awkward lines (and it wasn’t the acting bc Richard Schiff is a MASTER at delivering lines and even so, his lines about buying his 1st car were clunky.)
Similarly, the idea of Lea helping Shaun learn to drive so he can drive Glassman to his appointments was heart burstingly wonderful..yet, the scenes themselves weren’t that cute. I have no urge to rewatch them and I *ALWAYS* rewatch Shea scenes. Their conversation seemed a bit forced.  I wish Shaun and Lea had explicitly talked about Shaun doing this to support Glassman & how Shaun feels about that.  I did enjoy Lea beaming with pride telling Glassman Shaun’s good enough to get his license soon. She was impressed by Shaun. Me, too, Lea. :’)
The promo for next week’s Wiinter finale
I’m scared. I don’t want to be shocked in a negative way.  Anyone remember West Wing’s “In Excelsis Deo” where they buried a homeless Vet to “The Little Drummer Boy” or “Noel” when they had Josh’s PTSD triggered by music and had him walk by Carolers doing “Carol of the Bells” ?  I bawled, but those Christmas episodes lifted me up bc they were simply about ppl deeply caring about others.  Buffy “Amends” with its miracle snow ending was super sentimental but at Christmas, I love sentimental.  A TGD nail-biter with possibly shocking, unwanted developments is like a lump of coal in my stocking.  Couldn’t they just save a whole bunch of ppl to a Christmas soundtrack for 40 minutes and end w/ a Melendaire gift exchange and a Shea hand hold in front of their fireplace?

I'm in a Good Doctor mood today so tell me your thoughts on Claire and Melendez! :) Do you have any other ships on the show? Do you think Lea and Shaun should get together at some point or are they better off friends?
To start off, I LOOOOOVE Melendaire! Love love love!!! I’ve been picking up on vibes between them since early in s1, even before Shaun called Claire out on being attracted to Neil. I’ve been screaming about how hard I ship them every week to @belatrixstrangr for the last year haha. Some of their scenes are among my favorite of the show, truth be told, because they have chemistry with a dollop of emotional gravitas that sucks you in. They often connect emotionally and mentally in ways that you don’t expect.
I also like how there’s a competitive fire between them that’s dual in nature - manifesting in a way which fosters things like creativity, challenge, integrity, out-of-the-box thinking, but also allows them to work together as a unit and learn from each other. Neil can be rather arrogant at times but Claire has this conscious, sometimes unconscious, way of making him stop to revaluate how he’s coming at a problem or how he’s treating people (his residents, other doctors patients, etc.). He hears what she has to say, truly listens, and I really enjoy watching the effect she has on him. How her words resonate. Since Claire sometimes gets a little too emotionally attached or involved with her patients, I like how Neil helps her to temper that. Encourages her to find balance and think objectively when it’s either helpful or necessary. And don’t get me started on their richly convoluted family backstories. Just--ahhh! There’s so much there already, so much potential for more...*just leave me here*
As for other ships on the show, I think Shaun and Lea are super cute! I wouldn’t mind it if their friendship turned romantic at some point, per se, but neither one of them are ready for that yet. I’m content merely to see how they progress. :) I will say that I love how patient and understanding Lea is with him, or tries to be as much as possible. She just--accepts him for who he is, you know? Cares about him, too. And vice versa. I’m so happy they’re living together now. I’m thoroughly enjoying their roommate shenanigans with the toilet paper (over or under?), the pet fish, the dancing. They’re adorbs!
I’m also intrigued by this whole Melendez/Lim arc. I wouldn’t say I ship them yet but I don’t NOT ship them, if that makes sense? Like, with more development, I think I could grow to like them as a romantic pairing. They’re on more equal footing job-wise at the hospital because they’re both attendings so it’d be a little less problematic (in one sense) than Neil/Claire since he’s not her superior. Still, the whole “we work together” thing will be problematic regardless. Color me interested! I’m curious to watch and learn more.
That’s about it as far as ships go for this show so far. Though, I will say I got a little choked up in the winter finale over Dr. Reznick and her paramedic almost!love interest who died. And that’s saying a lot because she’s not all that likable lol.
What do you think? Any ships for you yet?

Guidelines
For my own mental health and safety, and to streamline the prompt writing process, I’ve decided to go ahead and present a comprehensive guide to my writing rules and the pairings I embrace, as well as squicks and themes I will not write. Please understand that this is not intended to deter, shame or humiliate anyone, but instead to allow you, the prompter, to know which themes I am comfortable writing, and which themes I will avoid.
If in doubt, please feel free to ask me. I promise I don’t bite! :)
Pairings
Tumblr media
Canon-compliant:
Tina Goldstein & Newt Scamander (Newtina) - General and romantic;
Leta Lestrange & Theseus Scamander (Theta) - General and romantic.
Non-canon compliant:

Tina Goldstein & Theseus Scamander (Thetina) - General and romantic;
Leta Lestrange & Newt Scamander (Neta) - General and romantic;

Tumblr media
Lydia Deetz & Beetlejuice - General and romantic so long as Lydia is of-age;
Barbara Maitland & Adam Maitland - General and romantic as part of a larger story (i.e. no stand-alone fics.)
Tumblr media
Lea Dillalo & Dr. Shaun Murphy (Shea) - General and romantic.
Tumblr media
Michelle Morgan & Radu Vladislas - General and romantic.
Prompt Rules & Basic Etiquette
These are pretty general so they should be easy enough for everyone to follow. :)
The first thing you need to know is that I maintain full creative discretion over which prompts I will accept and which prompts I will ignore. I’m sorry, but not every prompt speaks to me on a creative level, though I genuinely wish that weren’t the case. Harassing me or pestering me about your prompt, asking every five minutes if I’ve received it/started it/am working on it or finished with it is guaranteed to annoy me, which means that I will not be writing on your prompt — even if it does spark some creativity. So before you do it, check your pairing’s relevant Trello board to keep up-to-date on where your prompt stands in my writing queue.
The second thing you need to know is that I will be polite and accommodate you, so long as you are polite and accommodating to me. I understand and am truly flattered that you want to see what I come up with for your prompt, however, I am a full-time working wife and mother, so it should go without saying that free time and writing time are at a premium. My roles in real-life absolutely come before fandom, and if there is a conflict between sitting down to write and taking care of my husband and/or son, my family will come first. Again, I’m sorry, but I must maintain this stance if I am going to continue to produce for fandom at the rate I have been, and I thank you all for understanding. <3
Finally, and it pains me that I have to say this, but I reserve the right to block anyone, at any time, for any reason, or even for no (discernable) reason at all. Rest assured that I do not take blocking someone lightly, and I will not use it as a dash-control measure, since that’s what unfollowing, black-listing and ignoring are for; however, if I have reason to believe that you are no longer safe for me to associate with, I will not hesitate to take the necessary steps to protect myself. I encourage you all to adopt and use a similar stance.
Will-Not-Write List (applicable to all fandoms and pairings):
Incest/sibling romantic relationships;
Gratuitous rape/non-/dub-con (this will be decided at my discretion);
Credence Barebone/Corvus Lestrange V in a relationship with anyone (general & friendship fic okay);
Humiliation themes;
A/B/O dynamics (mostly because I simply doesn’t understand it!);
Underage characters with adults;
Reader-insert & canon-character/OC fics (ask me for a list of writers who are more than willing to write that for you, though!)
Squicks (applicable to all fandoms and pairings):
Glorified abuse;
Choking kink;
Daddy kink;
Underage NSFW (I will write implied consensual underage/underage content as part of a larger story, but that’s it.)

So if Jessica & Glassmans relationship is pretty solid do you think that she was around when Shaun entered the picture of Glassmans life. One day she comes to see Glassman and when she walks into the house she sees this little boy sitting at the table doing homework & eating pancakes. At first she was shocked that Glassman let someone into his life. Idk whta are you thoughts?
She let herself in. It was alittle rude, maybe, and presumptuous too, but it was a force of habit. She’dalways burst inside uninvited when she was younger, and even though things weredifferent now — irreversibly so — …well, she just would feel wrong stoppingto knock on a door that belonged to him. Besides, he knew she was coming tovisit. She’d told him just the other day. Sure, it was a plane ride…but itwasn’t every day you were accepted into law school. And given that she didn’treally have anybody to celebrate with but the man that had moved all the wayfrom California to Wyoming…the money would be a later focus.
She let herself in andcouldn’t help but feel a little sad at the house that greeted her. It wasAaron’s house…but it wasn’t. It was his new one. It wasn’t the house thatMaddie had grown up in. It wasn’t the house that Jessica had routinely flown towhen she was lost or confused or alone— the house that practically became herown. There wasn’t any wear and tear on the wood floors from them wearing rollerskates indoors, even though they’d been explicitly told not to. There wasn’t acrack in the plaster where Maddie had smacked her shoulder when they’d beenplaying tag. The walls were painted green, and not the light blue that Maddiealways loved.
This house wasn’t anythinglike the one Aaron had left behind. There wasn’t anything here to signifyMaddie, or hint that she’d even existed. Standing in the doorway in silence andregarding this change, Jessica wondered if maybe that was exactly what he hadwanted when he’d decided to move in the first place. It was devoid ofmemories…but perhaps that was for the best.
For him, at least.
To her, it just felt empty.Sad.
She stomached it all as bestshe could and shut the door behind her. The tiny slam seemed to echo, and shewas frowning when she looked back front. Where was he? His car was in thedriveway, and the door had (obviously) been unlocked. But the house was silent.“Hello?” she called out. Nothing came back. Her frown deepened, and shereluctantly set her bag on the floor and began to creep more into the house.
She passed the living roomand the stairs, seeing nobody. She couldn’t even hear anything. She would beconcerned she got the wrong house and was currently just bargaining into somerandom person’s, but she’d taken care to double-check the address on the wayin. Unless she’d written it down wrong – and she really thought she didn’t –she had the right place. It was just—
Her thoughts were cut shortwhen she came to a sudden and abrupt halt. Her eyes went wide, and her heartpractically stopped. It was like a jump-scare in a horror movie. Becausesitting at the dining table, with no explanation whatsoever, was a little boyshe’d never seen before in her entire life. With a book propped up in front ofhim. And a plate of pancakes.
The instant she walked inand saw him, he looked up at her too. The pair froze in immediate and synced panicat the sight of each other. Apparently, she was just as unexpected to him as hewas to her. She started to say something, but stopped short when the boy lookedquickly away from her, to the wall off to the side. He made no move to sayanything at all— not even to ask her what heck she was doing here, like shefigured a kid would probably do. His shoulders just tightened and curled up,and her fright began to melt into concern instead. He was practically coweringaway from her.
“H-Hey.” It wasn’t the best thing she couldcome up with, she was going to be honest. But it was what ended up being there.The boy didn’t react. In fact, he only seemed to get tenser when she actually spoke.Uncertain, Jessica kept trying. “Uh…who are you?” She tried to laugh off thequestion, but it kind of just made it even more awkward. “I’m looking for AaronGlassman, is he…your neighbor?” No response. She shifted. “Do you live nextdoor?” she redefined. “Are you friends with him?”
She trailed off, juststaring worriedly at the kid, whose unease seemed to only be mounting.
He was still looking awayfrom her, to practically anywhere else. She took a small step towards him, and heimmediately met the effort by getting up to his feet and stumbling backwards. Withouta word, he tried to right their distance. His hands were clenched tightly. His expressioncrumbled as he stared at the floor. It was more than clear he was upset by her.The fact came as a bit of a shock, and she had to shake her head fast to gatherherself enough to say anything.
“I’m sorry,” she rushed.“I’m— but…this is his address, right?” She pulled the slip of paper she’dwritten it down on and tried to step towards him again, so he could read it.But she froze when he edged even further away from her, his back about three millimetersfrom hitting the wall. He still looked away, and his lips were pressed tight.Her forehead creased, and this time she backed up; hopefully it would help. Inher puzzlement on what to do in this situation, it was silent for a long time. Shejust stared at him, and he just stared everywhere else. Eventually, she was toobemused, and started to feel way too awkward. She struggled to press: “Areyou—?”
“Shaun, I found the—” Jessicaturned immediately at the familiar voice and felt a rush of relief when she sawAaron coming down the stairs. When he looked up and saw the two of them, hiseyes flew wide. “Jessica!” He rushed the rest of the way down. “I…Icompletely forgot you were coming,” he confessed, weakening with a bit of guiltonce he came to a stop.
“I told you last week,” shereminded, pointlessly. It wasn’t like saying that would do much of anything, atthis point. But still, she would be lying if she said she didn’t feel thesmallest bit hurt she’d slipped his mind. “You said I could come up.”
“I know, I know,it’s…completely my fault, I…I’ve been…” His eyes flickered over to theboy still standing defensively a few feet away. They flashed, once they settledon him, but before Jessica could call him out on it, he was looking back toher. “I’ve been busy, but it’s alright! It’s— it’s fine, you can still stayhere! We still have to celebrate you getting into law school.”
But she wasn’t swayed. Shelooked over at the boy, who was still studying his feet. “Who’s he?” she askedinstead, her confusion making her a bit blunt. Aaron’s eyes flashed yet again,and he gave her a look that begged ‘Please don’t make me do this now.’ Sheignored it. The young girl just raised her eyebrows.
He sighed. There was briefhesitation, before he turned and offered the child a soft smile. “Shaun, whydon’t you go to your room? I’m sure—” He couldn’t even finish. The second thesuggestion started to leave his mouth, the boy was ducking out of the room andrushing away. Jessica watched with open puzzlement. Aaron just looked a little sad.
He was silent for aheartbeat, so Jessica repeated her question. “Who was that?”
He looked back, and suddenlyhe seemed very tired. Like all his energy had left with the boy. “That’s…ShaunMurphy,” he began, slowly. “He’s…a young boy that came to my office a littlewhile ago. He and his brother ran away from home, but his brother fell andhe…well, he called me for help. Help that came too late…” Jessica’s eyesflickered back to the stairs as she listened. “The police tried to take himback home, but…his father was abusive. He was panicking just at the thoughtof it. I offered to take him in for a while…just until something more permanentcomes up. He’s been here for a couple days, now.” A tiny pause, before: “He hasautism.”
Jessica’s expression beganto weaken into a frown. Her heart tugged in sympathy. “His brother died?” sherasped. “That’s…so sad. How long is he going to stay here?”
Aaron hesitated for a littletoo long. She was staring at him oddly by the time he finally managedsomething. “Oh, I don’t…I don’t know…not long. Just until…you know, justuntil they find a home he can go to that’s not…well, it might take a while.There are a lot of things to consider. He’s very…scared at the moment, any kidwould be, and it might not…be smart, to…it might just be easier, to…” Hereyebrows slowly began to pull together as he started over. “In themeantime…he’s not a bad kid at all, he’s very smart— he’s brilliant, actually…he’s…he’squiet, and…skittish, but I imagine that’s because of his father…”
“You ramble when you don’tknow what to say,” Jessica remarked, cutting though his words.
He blanched. He looked ather like he wanted to come back with a retort, but apparently, he couldn’t findone.
She looked back towards thestairs. “He called you?” she asked. Aaron nodded. “You gave him your number,”she deduced. This nod came slower. “And…now you want him to stay?”
“I never said that,” Aaronsnapped. He practically tripped over himself to say it, and that’s how she knewhe was trying to hide something.
“But you do? Want him to stay?”she pressed.
Aaron stared at her, and shealmost had to take a page from Shaun’s book and look away. The expression onhis face was a difficult one to meet. It reminded her of Maddie’s funeral, andhow he looked then. Sad, and confused, and at a loss of what to do. His voicewas fragile when he finally replied. “Maybe.” A lengthy gap put worlds betweenthis statement and his next one. “I don’t know.”
Her heart ached even more.She wasn’t even sure why at first, until it fell out of her mouth without her consciouswill. “After Maddie?” It was only a croak. But it was enough.
She felt horrible at thetears she immediately saw spring into his eyes. She waited for him to yell ather, or even for him to tell her to leave. They never talked about Maddie,ever. Even though she was the only thing linking them together. He almostdeserved to yell at her, for such a callous question. However, despite the wayhis eyes glistened over with tears, and despite the small hitch in his breath, whenhe could speak, it wasn’t in anger. But she almost rather would have had himscream. It would have been easier to listen to than the tiny croak that did manageto come out.
“I…have been alone…forquite some time.” Her heart spasmed in pain at the yawning loneliness thatplagued his voice. That was creeping over his entire face. Like it had been bottledback, and at the slightest chance, it was taking hold of him again. “And it’snothing you…contributed to, I’m very proud of you…for going off to college,” herushed to add. He was looking through her now, rather than at her. He tended todo that when he was particularly upset. Nearly everything about this man, sheknew, and yet she could hardly believe what she was hearing now. “But…I have justbeen…going through motions…for the longest time. And…and waiting all day…tojust go to sleep at night, because sleeping is just…easier than everythingelse.” The words fell between them like rocks. “For years, I’ve only…had mythoughts to keep me company, and that’s…” He didn’t finish. He tried to smile,but it died before it could even begin to live.
Jessica felt her own eyesbegin to burn. The young girl glanced down at her feet and pressed her lipstight. Aaron had to stop and stare off into space for a moment before he couldrecollect himself enough to go on. His voice was just a little brighter. Only asmidge, but she noticed it. “But…now, I hear…someone else walking around thehouse other than me, and I…have someone to talk to— when he does want to talk.I’m not…I’m not alone,” he ended tearfully. “And if I can help him, if I cangive him a better life than what he’s known so far…then maybe that’s what I’mmeant to do.” She rose her eyes to meet his again, and she tried not to let herlips tremble too noticeably at the hope she could see there. The tiny gleam ofthe man she thought had been put in the ground right alongside Maddie. Itnearly took her breath away, to see. Even this tiniest of flashes. “Maybe thereason I did stay…is because that little boy needs me.”
He let out a slow breath,and smiled a little sadly. “Or…maybe I need him.”
“Five days a week for sixweeks of radiation, ten more weeks of chemotherapy.”
“And then?”
Jessica glanced at Shaun,her stomach in knots at the expression that was on his face. She turned andlooked at Aaron, waiting for his reply. Her hands were clasped nervously in herlap. “And then…with a little luck…” The old man was staring at Shaun steadily,silently begging him to understand that nothing was fool-proof. That this toocould be ripped away, even still. But when he went on to say his next fewwords, he couldn’t keep that sober expression in place. Jessica watched with apainful sear in her chest as his face broke out into a watery grin. As his voiceturned affectionate, and near breathless with relief. “You and I can go to the SuperBowl next season,” he managed.
Shaun took in the news, standingstill for only the tiniest of seconds. Jessica waited to see his reaction. Waitedfor an ‘I Told You So’ or a ‘You Should Have Listened To Me To Begin With.’ Bothof which were prime suspects when it came to Shaun Murphy. But nothing likethat happened. What did happen, after the pause, was he rushed forward. His armsreached out at his sides and he ducked forward to run at Aaron and hug himtightly. Jessica straightened where she was sitting, her eyes going a little wideat the embrace. The embrace that Shaun was staying in willingly. That he had initiatedwithout hesitation. Aaron was just as surprised. His arms went up around Shauninstinctively, and after the tiniest of hesitations, she saw his expression meltas he ducked down more into the younger’s shoulder.
Jessica smiled as she lookedbetween them. Then she looked away, taking in a quick breath that was releasedjust as fast. Her chest ached, in a bittersweet kind of way. She remembered ascrystal clear as if it had happened a day ago, the look of sorrow and remorseand depression that had been on Aaron’s face after Maddie had died. That stayedlike that for years, never changing or lessening in its severity. Sheremembered the fake smiles he always gave, and how he tried to pass off asreal. She could never forget that.
And she could remember thelook that had been on his face that first day she’d spoken to him about Shaun.That sorrow ever-lingering, and yet somehow…lessening. It had just been the tiniestof fractions, but it was able to be seen at once. It was like it had beenstorming for ages, and the sun had finally started to poke its way around theclouds again. She’d seen the tiniest sense of his old self back, that day she’dwalked into his house without knocking, and found herself staring awkwardly atan unfamiliar kid that appeared to have sauntered into his life just as she hadsauntered into his house. Without invitation, yet remaining all the same. She’dseen the small hint, standing in that dining room as he spoke about Shaun.Slowly but surely coming back to life.
Now, that life was back entirely.It practically lit up his face as he pulled Shaun closer. All the love andhappiness and relief and excitement had somehow been brought back, when, for along while, she had wondered if such a thing was even possible. When Jessicalooked at him now, she could see the same look he used to give Maddie whenevershe hugged him. She could see that same love there…but it was different, becausenow it was for Shaun. Only Shaun’s— none of it belonged to her, and that wasplain on Glassman’s face. Somehow it hurt to acknowledge, but Jessica knew itto be true. And at Shaun’s words, soft and fervent, she knew something else,too.
“You’re going to live.”
This wasn’t the first time Shaunhad saved Aaron’s life. Whether he knew that or not, it didn’t make it any lesstrue. Aaron had continued living after Maddie because of Shaun. And now,because of him again, he was going to keep on doing so. Because, somehow, Shaunhad given him the one thing he’d needed that nobody else had been able to…
“There’s hope.”

Like Me
AN: I haven't written a fanfiction in six years, but I really liked this idea and @abedinthehead encouraged me so here it is!
The digital clock in the kitchen flipped to Saturday, May 5th at 12:00 am.
Shaun had a rare day off the next day, and had finally agreed to the TV binge Lea had proposed weeks ago. Both were currently sprawled on the living room floor, laying on their stomachs. The only light in the room was from the flat-screen, illuminating their faces with a blue glow.
Shaun had stopped caring about the episode six minutes ago, and had begun to watch Lea instead. She was twirling her hair around her finger, tangling the dark strands. Her eyes kept wandering from the TV to stare at the hardwood, then at the ceiling fan, then to the tag on the blanket the pair shared. When she was done with her hair, she began to chew on her fingernails, wearing away at the red polish.
From what Shaun could tell, Lea didn’t seem too interested in the show either. Everything caught her attention except what was being spoken on the TV. She startled when a police siren rang through the apartment; her hands jumped up fast to her ears before returning to their position in her hair. But as Shaun watched Lea begin to mumble the words being spoken, it hit him.
“You’re like me.” His voice was quiet compared to the volume of the TV, but Lea still jumped.
“God Shaun, you’re going to give me a heart attack.” She placed a hand on her chest and laughed. “What are you talking about?”
“You’re like me.” Shaun met her eyes before looking back down at the blanket.
“I heard you the first time, but I need you to clarify what you mean.” Lea paused the TV and sat up, pulling her legs up under her. Shaun mirrored her movements, angling himself so he was facing the girl opposite. He began picking at the blanket tag himself.
“You stim. You don’t like eye contact. You startle at loud noises and you echo words. You’re like me.”
Lea let out a laugh that sounded just a little too unnatural, high-pitched and breathy. “No, Shaun. Normal people do those things all the time.”
“Are you saying I’m not normal?” Shaun’s eyes widened and he looked anywhere but her face. He rocked back and forth slightly.
“Shaun that’s not what I, god-” Lea ran her fingers through her bangs, shifting slightly. “No one is normal, Shaun. And you know what I meant. Everyone gets scared by sirens sometimes, and maybe I just really liked that monologue.”
“Maybe everyone does those things sometimes, but you don’t do them sometimes. You always play with the ring on your right hand and the keychain on your car keys. Whenever you’re stressed, you touch your hair or chew on your fingernails. You never make eye contact, even when it’s considered a social norm. You also get distracted and never finish tasks. You’re like me.” Shaun nodded twice, satisfied with his argument.
Lea got up and made her way to the kitchen, grabbing a wine glass from the cabinet. “Saying it over and over doesn’t make it true, Shaun.” She grabbed the bottle from the fridge and poured a generous serving, draining half the glass immediately. “I’m just a regular person.”
Shaun stood, swaying in place for a moment walking toward the kitchen. Lea turned away from him to look out the window, and he stopped halfway to her.
“Is this conversation making you uncomfortable?” He clasped his hands, unsure whether to move closer or take a step back. Lea finished her drink before leaning against the countertop.
“A little. Most people don’t really like their flaws being picked apart.” She sighed. “I’m just an average person. I’m not like you, Shaun Murphy.”
“Would it be so bad if you were?” Shaun took a few steps further to stand in the entryway of the kitchen. Lea placed her glass in the sink before reaching forward and taking Shaun’s hand.
“Come on, I’ll tell you a secret.” She led him to the sofa before practically throwing herself on the cushion. Shaun sat next to her, one hand still holding Lea’s. She ran her thumb over the back of his once before letting go.
“When I was in like the second or third grade, this teacher, Ms. Greene, said the same thing you just said. She told my parents that I was different and there was something wrong. My parents, they wanted to do everything right, so they took me to this therapist. I can’t remember her name, but she promised my parents that I wouldn’t have any more troubles in school.” She looked at Shaun’s face for a moment before continuing. “We only had a few sessions, but she taught me how to make eye contact and stop fidgeting. Whenever I moved my hands, she would hold them down for the rest of the session. At the end of each session, I had to maintain eye contact for a few minutes before I could leave. My teacher called my parents and said I was making ‘great improvements in the classroom’,” Lea scrunched up her face a bit before continuing, “and so my parents stopped making me see the therapist. And that was kinda it, we never brought it up again.” She shrugged a bit, her posture hunched over her lap.
“You were in ABA therapy.” Shaun began fidgeting in his seat, moving his fingers along the seams of the loveseat.
“What does that mean?”
“Applied Behavior Analysis. It’s a type of therapy that aims to fix neurodivergent children. It is widely used across the United States. Your parents put you in ABA therapy to try and fix you, but it didn’t work. You still display neuroatypical traits.”
Lea’s eyes widened. “What are you trying to say?”
“I’m saying you’re like me. You’ve always been like me, but you were forced as a child to hide your traits. Your parents put you in ABA therapy because they didn’t want a child like me.” Shaun sat up a bit straighter as Lea relaxed into the couch.
“Are you saying that I’m autistic? Because I’m pretty sure I don’t have autism, Shaun.” Lea shook her head emphatically, as if willing everything away.
“Autism presents differently in women. Many professionals say it is more mild, but women are actually just better at hiding symptoms and adapting to their environments. There are also other kinds of neurodivergence besides autism, like ADHD. Many girls who have ADHD are described as flighty or promiscuous, when really they have a different neurotype.”
“Are you calling me promiscuous?” Lea swatted at Shaun’s arm lightly and laughed under her breath.
“No, but I heard Armen say it once. He said you were too promiscuous for his taste.” Shaun and Lea both scrunched up their noses at the same time.
“Eww gross. Armen can go to hell.” Lea giggled before sighing softly and tapping Shaun’s foot with her own. “So what if I am, how did you put it? Neurodivergent? What if I am that?” She tucked her ankle under Shaun’s, so his sock’s elastic just barely scratched at her bare skin. He flinched slightly but didn’t pull away.
“What do you mean? Nothing further needs to be done. There are support groups online, if you want that. Dr. Glassman always tried to sign me up for those sites, but I don’t want to. But if you want to, that’s your choice.”
“I think it’s going to take me a while to get used to this. I mean, I’ve lived my whole life thinking that I was just like everyone else.” She shuffled closer. “I don’t think I want to tell anyone about this conversation. Not right now. Let me think about it.” She brushed her bangs out of her face again and puffed her cheeks out.
“That’s okay. You don’t have to talk about it.”
Lea nodded once, then once more. “Okay, yeah. Do you watch to finish watching this episode?”
“No.” Shaun wasn’t interested in the show, and really didn’t want to sit through another episode.
Lea laughed again, but this time it was genuine. “Yeah, me neither.”
