the glint of the crown reflected from the moonlight as he stood inhumanly still. his eyes swept across the unlit city below him as a cool breeze fluttered his cape. he drew a deep breath and closed his eyes, the beat of his heart echoing in his chest. the days events replaying in his head as he began to plan for the next. the feeling of a gentle pressure drew his attention back to the present and his eyes opened. glancing beside him, he saw the still figure of the love of his life standing, her delicate hand resting on his shoulder. he let out a shaky breath and moved his hand to cover her smaller one as he closed his eyes. the effect she had on him had always shocked him. he was a prince, the power of the world in his hands. people bowed to him and heeded his every word. and yet the moment she spoke, he melted. she was the one thing that held power over him. a queen, an empress in all but name. the pressure leaving his shoulder drew his attention away from his thoughts as he opened his eyes and looked to his side. the girl was gone. he froze, the memory of her hitting him like a tidal wave. the memory of her spinning through the ballroom as the candles and the starlight cast an ethereal glow around her. the gorgeous gown she had worn billowing out around her legs as he watched her from his throne, his full attention locked on her movements. the memory of the arrow shot from seemingly nowhere finding its way into her chest. the memory of the look on her face, wide eyes, her mouth forming a little ‘o’ in shock. the memory of her eyes locking with his as she reacher her shaking hand out towards him, silently begging for a savior. the memory of rushing to her as her tiny body crumpled, the crown on her head falling to the floor, creating a sound of metal hitting stone mixed with the cries of the people watching. the memory of holding her body close to him as he wept. the memory of her gentle breaths as her hand pressed to his chest, staring up at him with the eyes that had always enraptured him. the memory of her whispered “i love you” as her breaths finally stopped. the memory of crying out in pure desperation, in pure pain, as the love of his life was ripped away from him. the hand on his shoulder had never been there. the image of his love beside him had not been real. she was gone, and he had gone with her.

So who and what is Tau Wild Wode?
Well, for the better half, we are a band of (as of this year) 29 friends that have been together at max, for the last 16 years, living in upstate NY. Been through life, thick and thin. Growing together so long we became more like Brothers and Sisters. Together, we have forged through life, discovering we have more and more in common that we ever though: TV, Movies, Hobbies, Faith, Food, Fun. We are a clean group, meaning no drugs, smokes and crap like that. We get our highs from life. We are a pagan group. That is to say our faith is not that of any of the Abrahamic faiths. Tried it, hated it and moved on.
Through our pagan faith and our love for all things of nature, “simplistic” and “Rustic” (and yeah we admit fantasy) we formed our own…well, I guess you can say society. We, my mates and I, of Wilder Folk. Meaning we are the people of the woodlands. Yeah we have our typical mundane lives, but we spend lots of our times, out in nature; looking for adventure, taking pics, journaling, camping, hiking, exploring, hunting and fishing. And when we say Adventuring, we mean exactly that. Our greatest was hiking from Central NY to Cascadia Washington, all on foot. And when we do “venture forth” we do it in our forest skins. That’s to say, what some would wrongfully coin “costumes.” But for us its hardly costumes. They are our forest clothes. Warm, comfortable and hardy. Over the years we have skilled ourselves in many lost and endangered skills such as sword fighting, candle making, archery, metal smithing, wood carving, fletching, gardening, composting, construction, animal husbandry, baking, well digging, butchery, sewing, hunting, canning, preserving, tracking, medical arts. We even do some of our own wine making. So yeah, we are pretty damn serious with all this. Its not just a weekend thing. We fight steel and we fight to attack and defend. So there is no “pretty saber” jedi staged combat dancing there. And the armor we wear is seriously real. We have even adopted our Wode names into our everyday life. (A topic for another post) We even have our own language and currency that we exchange between ourselves. (Also another post)
But do not get us wrong, we have fun too. Yes, we have our fantasy fun. I mean who else do you know that has been roleplaying the same fantasy campaign for other 15 years. Its pretty much how all this started. And yes. we also to LARP. The best being invited to a serious adult LARP in Finland a couple years back. And then there is our Pagan faith and our studies in the esoteric and magickal arts. All of which we will save for other posts.
Getting back to NY and our stomping ground, our life goal is already in the works. 60 acres of farm and woodland for us to life in the wild. It is not ours exactly yet. Its currently owns by my folks and being fixed up. Long boring story there. Be we do have 8 goats, 2 sheep, 13 chickens, 2 roosters, 4 royal palm turkeys, 2 geese and 7 ducks on the property which we tend to. Right now they are in the old barn till we can get together to build our ideal barn. Tau Wilde Wode, as is named, is to be a rustic community for us to live wild and free as we want and at the same time, a place for others to come, rent out, explore, learn and play on. We have already had a few events including a wedding for two of us. The goal was to have it done this year but Covid happen. Enough said there. 2/3s of the property is wooded and the rest is field and farmland. There is also a creek that runs through it that is teamed with crawfish and frogs. Yummmm. :)
Really the rest of this board I guess is just a coming-together place, keeping a digital log, sharing pics. Maybe even our story. Probably also sharing art, pagan notes, liking others images here and looking for new friends. Originally we were on Google Groups but that was so limiting. We drifted to Facebook but ….eck! Then to Yahoo groups. That was cool but they were going away next month. So heeeeere weeee arrrre.
Gonna leave it all at this point with just a list of our aesthetic life loves and we will explain more another post. I am sure there are some I missed. I guess the main one that we can all agree on and come together on is that we are all Forest core and adventurecore peoples:
