A 52-year-old German athlete requested Palestinian citizenship to participate in the Olympic Games under the banner of Palestine in a show of support to the justice of the Palestinian cause.

Christian Zimmermann (born 12 December 1961 in Cologne, Germany) is a German-born Palestinian Olympic dressage rider. He represented Palestine at the 2014 World Equestrian Games in Normandy where he finished 68th in the individual dressage competition with Cinco de Mayo. By doing so, he became the first Palestinian to compete at the World Equestrian Games.

I’ve started typing out some comment on the Hamas-Israel war, but feel utterly disqualified to offer any educated opinion on the specifics of conflict resolution. All I can say is that anyone who is cheering for the deaths of civilians is a disgrace to everything the left claims to fight for. The State of Israel has spent 80 years convincing everybody that criticism of its policy is antisemitism inherently, and many people go ahead and prove them right. Crying “all the Israelis deserve to die”, as I have seen many times in the left-wing discourse around this topic, is no different to calling for the extermination of any other group of people.

The State of Israel is a settler colony. The lives of its inhabitants are exactly as valuable as every other human life, including the Palestinians who are going to be killed in the Israeli counterattacks.

Because the value of human life does not depend on whether it’s politically useful to you.

Do you know about the Gaza Sunbirds?

They are a paracycling team from Gaza. During the manifestations held between 2018 and 2019 at the border between Israel and Palestine, Alaa al-Dali, a professional cyclist, was shot by israeli snipers and lost a leg. 214 other palestinians were killed and more than 36 thousands were wounded. Many of them ended up losing limbs.

Alaa al-Dali knew these people were at risk of becoming outcasts, so he decided to found a paracycling team with them. The team was getting ready for the 2024 Paralympics, but because of the genocide they won't be able to take part in the games. The Gaza Sunbirds have now decided to put their skill at the service of the palestinian people, and bring humanitarian aid even to the most remote places of Palestine.

There are cities which are organizing rides to raise funds for the Gaza Sunbirds (you could ask to organize one in your city!), but you could also simply donate through their website:

Apartheid Israel should be banned from the Olympics and all sporting contests.

I think the hypocrisy of it, the so called rules based order which is basically: my rules today and I change them whenever I feel like it, everyone has seen it out in the open. No one is buying it anymore. It's absolute nonsense. It's nothing more than whatever they feel like choosing, and they don't feel they should be held to account. Well the world isn't buying it anymore. The multipolar world is here. The age where NATO countries can do whatever they want is over. This has been a ginormous failure for them. The only thing that Israel and NATO are good at doing is murdering women and children. Militarily they are being destroyed in Gaza and in around the area. And they have lost the entire narrative so they have nothing left.
