Seven Covers in Seven Days: Day 2
tagged by @beardedbookdragon
Of course I can't choose just one Diana Wynne Jones book that I love (so honorable mention to The Merlin Conspiracy and The Pinhoe Egg, in the background there) but Fire and Hemlock is maybe one of her most impressively written books. This edition has an essay about her process of writing it and it leaves me more impressed every time.

"You can only keep 20 books out of all the books you own" tag
I saw this originally on @theinquisitxor 's page. I thought I'd do my own version of their tag.
Hypothetically, you are only able to keep 20 of your books. Only one book per author/series. So what books are you keeping?
This was hard. I only picked from books I've read all the way through. This list also includes two honorable mentions (because I couldn't limit myself :/). I'll list the titles and authors at the end.

#I probably should have put them all in one picture but the stack kept falling over :/#also you couldn't see the covers#are you surprised- probably not?#a lot of these were based on my grad work but some were not#I actually don't own a lot of my favorite books- I used to go to the library a lot#and I didn't add any tbrs because I don't know if I even like any of those yet-but thank goodness this is just hypothetical#very interesting tag game OP#books#bookblr#book covers#I have another set of bookblr cover posts coming up based on my 2023 reading challenge#book tags#20 books#my books#black beauty and wuthering heights were gifts from my grandma#I own three copies of wuthering heights but this one has the prettiest art#austen fans might kill me but I like Persuasion more than Pride and Prejudice#bronte fans might kill me because I like Anne more than Charlotte- and I didn't pick any of Charlotte's books!!! (Rochester sucks)#I kind of agree with Woolf's assessment of Charlotte and uh it's not flattering AND she is the reason Anne is less well known#but Charlotte is also the reason either of her sisters are published at all so I can't hate her- she was bold enough to encourage them#I did a paper on Gilman too#PLEASE read some of Gilman's other stories- they are just as good as yellow wallpaer!#the literary theory book has saved me more than I'd like to admit#many good articles to toss about and tear apart with your fellow grad students if ever you have any doubts about a text#yes I have used the female husbands book in some of my grad work too#I think woolf fans would be cool with me since A Room of One's Own is one of her best/most influential works#and some of these ARE going to be used in future papers too#I LOVE Kate Beaton's history and literature comics#historic fiction#lgbt literature

4. What are your top 3 comfort reads?
1. Two duologies by Patricia Briggs - Dragon Bones and Dragon Blood, and Raven’s Shadow and Raven’s Strike
2. Dealing With Dragons and Searching for Dragons by Patricia. C Wrede
3. Books in the World of the White Rat by T Kingfisher (Swordheart, Paladins, Clocktaur War)
4. Anything by Ilona Andrews
This took some thinking! I could only narrow it down to groups, not individual books, and had to add a bonus group in there!
Thanks for asking @paperbackpropensity 😀

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall
Another case of a book that I couldn't put down once I picked it up.
It's fun, it's witty, it's touching and it has one of my favorite tropes, the Fake Dating to Lovers, both characters are deeply flawded and they complement each other very well; the story is so well written and has such fun dinamics between their main and side characters and touching moments that will stay with you for a long time.
As soon as I was done reading it I wanted to read it all over again, and when I found out there was sequel coming out in August I couldn't be happier!
If you're a fan of romantic comedy and queer books, this is a must read.

Sunny reading tag!
Tumblr media
(I took some questions from @lyralit ‘s sunny reading asks and made it a tag)
🥞 favourite book? and why
Stardust by Neil Gaiman.
it was the first book by this author that I bought, and it immediately made me fall in love with his style and storytelling, it's been on my top ever since.
🌾 tropes that make you go "asfgrthgj"
Enemies to lovers, fake dating is just *chef kiss*
🌻 comfort book
The Vampire Diaries, Awakening by LJ Smith.
Not much because of the contents of the book, but it brings me back to a nostalgic part of my life that I miss sometimes.
🌙 death in a book you would take back
Damon Salvatore in The Vampire Diaries, The Return by LJ Smith.
I cried, hard, and after all the growth he had gone through
💡 book you wish you could read again for the first time
Red, White and Royal Blue, Casey McQuinston
I wanna experience all that joy for the first time all over again, I had such a great time reading this book.

My #1 post of 2022
It was odd. As a girl, Sophie would have shriveled with embarrassment at the way she was behaving. As an old woman, she did not mind what she did or said. She found that a great relief.
Howls Moving Castle, Diana Wynne Jones

10 People I Want to Get to Know Better
Thank you @authorlaurawinter for the tag!
Relationship Status: Married for over 6 years now.
Favorite Color(s): Dark, dark blue and dark, dark green. I like colors that look like they’re in a bad mood. ...that’s weird, right?
Favorite Food: I have such a big sweet tooth so almost anything sweet. But also Mexican and Italian food.
Song Stuck in My Head: “I’ll Be” by Edwin McCain. it was the final song playing on a show I was watching.
Last thing you Googled: Barcode Generator. I have to use it for work whenever I need stuff from the back and the barcode on the shelf isn’t scannable anymore.
Time: 12:28 p.m.
Dream Trip: I just did an amazing nature trip in Norway last month so now I’d love to do a Castles of the U.K. & Ireland trip.
Last Thing You Read: I finished The Hollow Places by T. Kingfisher the day before yesterday (SO GOOD) and now I’m rereading Escaping Eleven before the final book comes out in a couple of months.
Last Book You Enjoyed Reading: The T. Kingfisher for sure (trying to find the space to add another to my TBR for the month), but I had a lot of fun reading The Luminaries by Susan Dennard. It felt pretty similar to The Raven Boys with its own magic system.
Favorite Thing to Cook/Bake: I don’t do well with cooking, but I love to bake cookies especially in the Fall and Winter.
Favorite Craft to do in Your Freetime: I’m not really crafty, but I do color in a coloring book when I’m stressed. Does that count?
Most Niche Dislike: I don’t like a lot of noise, but I think even more niche than that is my dislike for people being inconsiderate. Like my coworkers not considering other people when they make work decisions. I’ve definitely had to push back my scheduled breaks and stuff so I can cover for other people who decide they want to take a break early. Stupid stuff like that.
Opinion on Circuses: I can’t say I’m a fan.
Do You Have Any Sense of Direction: I do. Whether I can communicate those directions to other people is a whole other story.

23 Books I Want To Read in 2023
tagged by @paperbackpropensity in the form of “if you haven't done it, please consider yourself tagged by me!” :D
(This was actually kind of a challenge! Mostly because I have so many on my TBR that for this list, I wanted to select books I think I have a genuinely good chance of reading in this time frame. So I tried to pick books from my TBR that are easily accessible -- at the library or that I already own -- and then a combination of recently added books whose excitement is still fresh, books that I have been meaning to read for a while now but often feel like I need a specific “time” of year to enjoy to their fullest (a window I usually miss), and books I started several months back but unintentionally drifted away from (read: got distracted by a shinier book) and forgot to go back to.
Update: now crossing off titles as I complete them.
Updated update: now italicizing titles I’ve read, but after 2023
Treasure State  - C.J. Box
The Final Gambit - Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Five Survive - Holly Jackson
The Arctic Curry Club - Dani Redd
One True Loves - Elise Bryant
The Lost Love Song - Minnie Darke
St. Francis Society for Wayward Pets - Annie England Noblin
Catch the Light - Kate Sweeney
A Walk in the Sun - Michelle Zink
Lady Sunshine - Amy Mason Doan
Not Our Summer - Cassie Bazay
My Candlelight Novel - Joanne Horniman [well, a week into 2024. but I started it on the 31st...]
That Weekend - Kara Thomas
The Geography of Lost Things - Jessica Brody
The Foreseeable Future - Emily Adrian
When You Get the Chance - Emma Lord
The Zoo on the Road to Nablus: A Story of Survival on the West Bank - Amelia Thomas
The Last Bookseller: A Life in the Rare Book Trade - Gary Goodman
My Small Country Living - Jeanine McMullen
Leap Before You Look - Mary Stolz
The Bookshop on the Corner - Jenny Colgan
The Christmas Dress - Courtney Cole
The Birth of the Fire-Bringer - Meredith Ann Pierce
and definitely not that ridiculous Prince Harold book I cannot seem to escape hearing things about

23 books in 2023! tagged by @agardenandlibrary and also I've been tagged by @wearethekat to post some books I would like to read this year, so even though this isn't the exact same format, I'm counting it for both. In no particular order:
How Far the Light Reaches, Sabrina Imbler
Flush, Bryn Nelson
South of the Buttonwood Tree, Heather Webber
The Final Empire, Brandon Sanderson
The Well of Ascension, Brandon Sanderson
The Hero of Ages, Brandon Sanderson
Murder at the Serpentine Bridge, Andrea Penrose
Ninth House, Leigh Bardugo
The Grief of Stones, Katherine Addison
Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries, Heather Fawcett
Braiding Sweetgrass, Robin Wall Kimmerer
Light Thickens, Ngaio Marsh
The Broken Places, Ace Atkins
Silent in the Grave, Deanna Raybourn
Egg Drop Dead, Vivien Chen
No Gods, No Monsters, Cadwell Turnbull
Summer Sons, Lee Mandelo
All Creatures Great and Small, James Herriot
Nona the Ninth, Tamsyn Muir
The Hollow Places, T. Kingfisher
One Extra Corpse, Barbara Hambly
Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter, Tom Franklin
The Silent Patient, Alex Michaelides
It was so hard for me to refrain from adding context for each of these, so I will just say: most would be new reads I came across in various ways, a few are planned re-reads, and there's a couple I actually already read this year, but I put them down anyway. Please feel free to ask about any of them!
I have very little idea who has already done this/might want to do so, so I will tag @dracereads, @paperbackpropensity, @aretherebooksahead, and @beardedbookdragon in case this appeals! If you don't want to make a list, don't; if you do but I didn't tag you, make one and tag me anyway!

Rules: Tag 10 people you want to get to know better
Tagged by @burningvelvet. Thank you for inviting me to the tag game! :)
Relationship Status: Currently single and I'm working on trying to build up my life so I can date.
Favorite Color: To wear is red though I also really like purple. I have more purple accessories but I wear most colors. I have many colorful outfits.
Song Stuck In My Head: Love by Lana Del Rey but there are others that can play on command in my head if I hear the title/the band.
ABBA, Meg & Dia, Emilie Autumn, Flyleaf, Avril Lavigne and Skillet are some artists that I have looping in my head often.
Last Song I Listened To: Cheater, Cheater by Joey and Rory (my spotify was on shuffle)
I like country probably more than people would expect but I am more of a pop/dance queen though. I have made Eurovision playlists in the past.
Three Favorite Foods: Pears, Potatoes (in many forms), and Greek salads or wraps. But I love most food in general. I'm not a super picky eater. I like to cook and make baked goods. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen.
Last Thing(s) I Googled: Pharmacy hours because I had to pick up more medication.
I also looked up an actor's age because my sister and I were trying to figure out how old he was (she was right or close- I thought he was younger- he's on one of my mom's shows). I'm usually the go to googler for my family, especially when they ask about actors or actresses in movies and tv shows we watch.
Links to my college's website, goodreads, storygraph, youtube and list challenges. I'm making more reading lists on list challenges (again).
Sorry it's nothing too interesting lately. My YouTube searches are probably more interesting but only marginally so. I'm not at school or working on any research projects currently so my searches are very basic right now.
Dream Trip: Japan. I'd like to go with close friends and/or family members though since it would be a big deal to go that far. I've been following a japan travel vlog by a woman who lives there. She shows all kinds of cafes and other fun places to go. You can watch/follow her vlog here: https://www.youtube.com/@its_time_to_travel
I'd love to be able to go to some of the places she's featured on her blog. It would be the trip of a lifetime! I'd be sure to try to learn some Japanese first too since I'm visiting their country and that seems polite to do. I know a few random words but can't read or write anything or even hold a conversation.
If I can't go to Japan, I'd love to go back to either Germany or England, but to the parts I didn't visit since there are tons of places in both those countries I've never been too. I really want to go to Haworth (The Bronte Sister's hometown), since I'm a Bronte fan and I've focused some of my grad studies on their works.
This is a tag post so I'm tagging:
@paperbackpropensity, @thatwritererinoriordan, @oh2e, @yeahwellshithappens, @autumnbell32, @writingf3, @windermerepoets13, @melusinah, @girlonedge and whoever else wants to do this! :)
#there's a lot of people I wanted to talk to on here to see if we'd be better friends but I usually don't want to bother people#feel free to answer if we're mutuals too#tags#tag game#recently (within the last six months) realized I'm probably a lesbian not bi so that happened still single AF though#still want to extend support to any and all of my bisexual friends since I believe in solidarity#being brutally honest not sure if I'd make anyone a good girlfriend yet since I have some personal stuff to sort out#BUT I was hoping to start dating before the end of the year- maybe in the summer or fall depending on how much I can do before then#red and purple#music#my music taste may be a little unexpected#pears#potatoes#greek salad#I'm sorry my searches are so boring lately#they're usually more literary and probably more interesting#lots of fact checking of various author's biographies and such#I meant what I said about Japan#but I might not be allowed to go there if my medicine is illegal there#I can't go to some countries because my medications for bipolar are illegal in some countries (though I'm switching medications soon)#the flight to Japan is almost a day from where I live too which is a lot but it would be worth it#so many of her travel videos are cool- there are so many cute cafes and fun little places to go in Japan that I saw on her vlog#if they don't allow my medicine I can't go but I know I'm allowed to travel to England so I'll just go back instead when I have money#I have so much saving up to do fr#I could talk about dream travel destinations forever tbh
