HI I AM HERE TO FULFILL THY REQUEST—YEET HENCE THE GALLIGANG HADESTOWN AU IDEAS THOU HAST STORED DEEP WITHIN THY PSYCHE AND COMPOUND TO US THE FEELS THOU MAY’ST CONJURE
babe i just had to read that twice to understand it but i saw "galligang" and "hadestown" so let the yeeting commence
this is partly ideas that you've given me actually shgfsjdgdjs
ok so like...OT4 Hadestown AU could go so many ways tbh. like the automatic idea is L/N as Eurydice and Orpheus with Braxmana as Hades and Seph -- i mean Collection!Brax kinda vibes but idk -- i can totally see Narvin turning, bc he my anxiety boi and he absolutely would tbh (😢) also something about Romana as Persephone being v sympathetic is a good vibe imo
but like... you can flip that, too, and knowing what ver y little i know about TW4.03 Beyond (blahblahblahblah Dante's Inferno blahblahblah something about clowns that i assume refers to the ravenous blahblah David Llewellyn sucks) you could justifiably have Braxmana as Orpheus and Eurydice. idk how it would work but it is a Concept.
my personal fav, tho. the one that absolutely destroys me. is Narvin and Romana as O/E. because Narvin would go to the ends of the earth and beyond if it meant saving Romana -- and i mean ok listen. in a way, we already have Orpheus and Eurydice parallels with N+R because of Ascension: Romana supposedly trapped in the Matrix, Narvin literally being willing to unweave the Web of Time to get her back but making A Mistake and causing them both far more angst than they could ever have imagined??? the parallels are THERE, my dude
i like to write Narvin and Romana hugging and theatre kid brain be like "suddenly i'm holding the world in my arms" didn't Narvin basically say that Romana is his Gallifrey at some point djgfsgfsdjfg
(additionally bennybrax makes a perfect Hadestown AU bc either of them could work as Orpheus and there's a few lines -- mainly the "a runaway from everwhere she's ever been" one tbh)
i wish I had more organized thoughts but alas my brain is not making the words go at the mo
If anyone wants to send me Pacific Rim for Gallifrey or X-Files for bennybrax 🥺🥺🥺

9. The Sisters Grimm, by Menna van Praag
Tumblr media
Owned: No, library Page count: 472 My summary: Four young girls found each other in Everwhere, a world beyond our world. They are sisters Grimm, children of magic and wonder, posessing powers that mortals might not understand. But at thirteen, they forgot. Now, they are close to their eighteenth birthday, and time is running out. Their father has sent soldiers after them, and they must face him and fight...or perish. My rating: 3.5/5 My commentary:
Sometimes, you pick up a book because of its cover and title. You can totally judge a book by its cover, by the way. You might not always be right, but you can do it! Anyway, that’s what I did here. I had no idea what to expect, but what I got was a kind of messy narrative that was nonetheless filled with enough passion and heart to keep me coming back for more. I had fun with it!
First up, the girls - we have Goldie, down on her luck thief, Liyana, whose family have lost a lot of money, Bea, reckless and abrasive student, and Scarlet, overwhelmed teen caring for her elderly grandmother. In all, they’re an interesting enough bunch, though I cared for some more than others. I thought Bea was probably the most developed, in that she was the most connected to the overlying story but also in that she had a more complex worldview than the others. I liked Liyana best, I think - her story of stifling familial expectations versus her own passions and dreams was engaging, and I liked the aspect of her as a storyteller. She’s also one of the more proactive, actually reaching out and finding Goldie on her own initiative.
This story wears its fairytale narrative on its sleeve. Even before the parallels are explicitly drawn in-universe, it’s not hard to match Goldie to Goldilocks, Scarlet to Little Red Riding Hood, and Liyana to Beauty of and-the-Beast fame. Bea is the odd one out - the fairytale given for her is BlackBird, a story of Liyana’s own creation, and one I couldn’t see an established fairytale equivalent for (though I might have missed something). It’s unsubtle, but it gets the job done, and I must admit I did enjoy seeing the references in their individual narratives - the man trying to buy Scarlet’s grandmother’s cafe being called Mr Wolfe, for example, or the main antagonist, the girls’ father, being Wilhelm Grimm. My gripe there was that most of these stories aren’t Grimm tales? Red Riding Hood is, but Beauty and the Beast is one with an actual original version by Madame de Villeneuve (at least, the iteration of that motif that most people know) and Goldilocks isn’t as far as I know. Feels weird to tie the entire name of the story to the Grimms and then not use all-Grimm fairytales, you know? And I mean, I know that the Grimms didn’t write any of these, they just collected them, but still. It would make sense to use fairytales from the Grimm collections, you know?
Speaking of gripes I had with this book, the narrative voices are sure a choice. See, there’s a POV for each character, plus antagonist Leo, plus flashback versions of all of these five. Ten POVs, and it does get a bit overwhelming after a while, especially because those narratives don’t all converge until the end. I was expecting the girls to all meet up in the real world before they meet in Everwhere, but they don’t. And while I respect that as a narrative choice, the impact that has is that in Liyana, Goldie, and Scarlet’s stories, they all learn the same things as each other at roughly the same times, leading to a certain repetitiveness in the story. (Bea is largely immune, being the most clued-in to what’s really going in via her mother.) That plus the book’s sheer size led to it feeling a lot longer than it was, because the material was covered over and over.
But like I said in my intro, there’s a lot of love here and a lot of inventiveness. I can forgive some clumsiness in narrative structure when it feels like an author’s rushing to take you by the hand and run through their world with you. This is that sort of narrative, born out of love and passion, and as much as I criticise it, I also have to admire it, you know? Even though I was lukewarm on the book, I can easily see it becoming someone’s absolute favourite, and it’s not hard to see why.
(Also, it used tarot imagery in Liyana’s story, and it was proper tarot! With minor arcana and everything! Gotta love that.)
Next up - how about we talk some history? Particularly, the history of bad behaviour?

Parallel Universes
By Dan Hoeweler
The universe I live in
Is different than yours
I will show you some day
And you will believe
In places
Where death stalks all
Where trickery takes place
Where deception is king
Where demons rule
Where everything is cruel
I came here one day
Through a black hole
Called Knowledge
And viewed the world
In a different light
When traveling through
I saw the demons
That rule everything
Everwhere
All the time
I see them here
In this parallel universe
That you cannot see
That you cannot hear
They can see
Those that are not blind
They track everyone
Who can see the light
They control me
They hear me
They see all
I want to be ignorant again
Just like you
But poisoning my mind
With strange pills
Which brainwash me
Will not let
Me be free
I wish I was blind
And could not see
This world is a curse
To everything
That I breathe
One day you may discover
This parallel world
And find yourself in
A lot of trouble
With demons
That see and hear
Everything that you do
With voices
That will torment you
Stay away from the voices
Stay away from the light
Don’t listen to them
Don’t think they exist
They will lead you here
Where I am now
With voices
And demons that I fear
Stay ignorant please
Forever more
Or the demons will come
And take your soul

Are you ok? - Of course I’m not. I see planets everwhere, moons and even parallels universes in my dreams. No. I’m definitely not ok. … ¿Estas bien? - Por supuesto que no. Veo planetas en todas partes, lunas e incluso universos paralelos en mis sueños. No. Definitivamente no estoy bien. #MattEsmay #Quotes #Frases #Escritos #Dialogue #Diálogo #Fotografia #Photography (en Resistencia, Chaco)

Why Do I Hate Fake Freckles.
Today, we had a debate in my dorm room. I don’t know why I am so worked up over this, maybe because it reflects my insecurities more than I would admit. You see I have a red-head skin, but I am brown-haired, still I have moles everwhere, my skin is very sensitive to sun and I have freckles on my face and my arms. Today, and it’s been several time already, that one of my classmate who is one of my close friend by the way shows up with freckles imitation on her face. It is her usual make-up. Yes, as a make-up she is putting some fake freckles on her face with a brown eyeliner. It is not really pretty nor it isn’t horrible either, the problem for me is far from aesthetic. But the topic came along in the privacy of my room (without my friend in question btw), one of roomate just started to talk about it “Wow I have never noticed how she would put make up on but that’s horrible” , another “yeaaah that’s so ugly, whats the point of putting freckles” , another “yeah and it doesn’t even suit her that much” and there is me , who made the mistake (or not  ? is saying what you want to say honestly is really a mistake ?) to contribute by saying “I don’t really mind if it’s cute or not, for me it’s just plain offensive”. And I don’t know why, but I just felt everyone staring at me like I was an UFO or smth, and mocking me like “that’s stupid why would ya find it offensive that’s just make up , no no it’s just ugly that’s all”. And I don’t know, I think I am just being petty, but when something offended you or you are sensitive to something, and someone call this offense or these sensitivities “stupid” I just got angry and really defensive. My point is , for me, freckles is not something that you wear as make-up I tried to explain my train of thought, using a parallel with the Black Face or White Wash phenomenon but they just dicarded it like that. And it hurt. I mean , yes they are probably right that’s just stupid. But I still hate this “fake freckles trend”. Call me a tiny bit bitter, but I personally am a little peeved by the trend, not because freckles aren't cute, but the fact that they weren't...really...earned when someone paints them on?? .This is going to sound like nutty logic but I have yet to meet a person that wasn't ridiculed in some way in school for having freckles when they were young. I was ridiculed  when I was young. Then suddenly a trend comes out of nowhere along where people can reep the benefit of a freckled face without having to go through the social stigma at a young age of having a freckled face and have a say in the “oh at the end freckles are cute, let’s all get what red-head-skin people have suffered from all the childhood but whitout the permanent effect of having them all your life, let’s not get overboard either ahah, who whould want freckles others than to be a make-up thingy huh”. Bitch, some people are living with that 24h/24h , it is not something you can appropriate then discard when you don’t want it anymore.  I mean, ultimately, who cares, but I personally feel a little robbed that a feature I was made fun of over, and had to come to terms with, is now a trend , a product of fashion that people are using as they want to. There is certainly some jealousy as well, I still remember looking in the mirror being a child and praying that they would disappear when I would grow up. I would dread summer like the flu , because I knew they would get darker and even more numerous and even more visible. As soon as I could, i would put some foundation or some cream to hid them a little. I would uncounsciously choose a filter for my photos which would slightly blur and brighten the skin. It was ugly for me, simply ugly. And for bullies at school, it is apparently also ugly. And I was jealous of all these girls with blemish and pure skin without any dark little spots over it. Now, as an adult, I don’t even mind them anymore, I don’t see them anymore, because I came to terms with it and now I consider as even “cute” sometimes, so this debate shouldn’t even bother me that much, but I don’t know it reminds me of my past and surely still present insecurities, and unlike all these girls with perfect skin who can enjoy faking freckles, me I can’t remove them at the end of the day and I can’t remove either what I have been through because of it. Maybe it’s time for some reflection, but I just had the need to lay down my upsetness and my thoughts on the phenomenon, and because I felt like I am the only one bothered by it.
And no, to repeat the counter arguments of my friends, it is NOT the same as dying you hair another color, it is NOT the same as your doing your everyday make-up with some rosy blush and red lipstick. And don’t laugh at my face saying because I am wearing right now some cotton clothes, that “in that case with you way of thinkng it is very offensive for sheeps and lambs ahahah ”. Fuck you, it is not the same. Freckles are not a make-up. And for god’s sake have the decency to respect opinion especially when it’s a matter of insecurities or past/present social stigma. Thank you very much.
