Classic tropes/prompts in parental stories <3
The kid wakes up in the middle of the night because of nightmares and is too scared to sleep by themselves, so they sneak into their parental figure's bedroom, begging them to sleep together
Hide and Seek
Parental figure carrying the kid piggyback
Tickle fights! (no need for explanations, that's just adorable qwq)
Kid falls asleep somewhere and the caretaker finds them, bringing them to their bed
Caretaker and the child fall asleep on the couch together while watching a movie <3
Caretaker takes the kid to a fair, playground, restaurant or shopping, just spending the day and having fun together
Winter! (picture snowball fights, sleighing, buliding a snowman, hot chocolate, baking cookies, Christmas presents)
On a cold winter day Caretaker notices that the child is freezing so they draw a gentle smile and say: "Come here", pulling them under their coat to warm them up
Caretaker gives the kid their clothes, which are waaay too large for them so they are sitting there in a oversized sweater and Caretaker rolls up their sleeves
(and for a bit o' whump :D) Child gets injured/sick and the caretaker has to tend to their wounds or nurse them back to health
Stargazing together or catching some fireflies (I have a soft spot for that one <3)
Or just both of them cuddling under a blanket in front of the fireplace while rain and thunder is rumbling outside :3

imagine some years ago being a child who somehow stumbled into the dungeon, not being able to find a way out, and seeing senshi, who ends up spotting you first, he's worried how a child like you would manage to somehow get in without getting hurt or killed, so, he takes you in, he doesn't have much experience with taking care of a child but it would be terrible to just leave a child here to fend for themselves.
learning more about the child, he finds out that they have no place to go, no parents, no family, not much on them being abandoned or killed, you were just alone, and it makes him want to protect you even more.
you grow up to be a teenager, because senshi had taught you to defend yourself, how to cook, and.. to eat your mushrooms, you grow up to be just like him, but in your own unique way, and now, alongside the man you call your father, you travel with him, alongside a man and his party members to look for his sister who was eaten by a red dragon, and a cat girl basically becomes your adoptive sister. ;)
(if you want to use this idea for a fanfic you must credit me.)

parental caretaker and kid writing prompts
- younger kid standing on their caretaker's shoes and rocking around. almost like they're dancing or waltzing.
- the thing where the caretaker pulls the kid closer to them by like wrapping their hand around their head and covering their ear and tucking them against them.
- kid sitting on caretaker's shoulders. always a good one.
- "shh, shh, I know, I know"
- any sort of "take me instead" situation, said by either character. devastating.
- dealing with sickness. like obviously the kid getting sick and accidentally calling their caretaker mum/dad/parent in their feverish delirium is super cute and top tier.
- BUT ALSO. hear me out. caretaker getting sick but trying to push through to look after their kid and their kid works super hard to make their job easier or look after them in small ways.
- kid hiding for some reason (minor anxiety or major trauma or anything in between) and the caretaker comforting them or trying to coax them out.
- caretaker sweeping kid up in a big ole bear hug and spinning em around.
- kid hiding behind caretaker.
- "you should be in bed" "I can't sleep" "...alright, get over here, you can stay up for five more minutes"
- caretaker and a maybe slightly older kid arguing and making up.
- caretaker picking up slightly older kid from a party that's gone wrong in some way.
- caretaker who's maybe less like a parent and more like an older sibling. they take their kid to abandoned buildings and eat cheap takeaway/takeout with them.
- caretaker teaching their slightly older kid life skills that they maybe didn't have the chance to pick up on when they were younger.
- or yk just caretaker teaching their younger kid life skills. like trying to get them involved with cooking and lifting them up to help grab things and letting them watch things get cut up and prepared.
- caretaker indulging their younger kid in tea parties with their stuffed animals.
- caretaker looking after a kid's comfort items (bonus point if the kid is older, and double bonus points if the kid is too embarrassed to care for their comfort items themselves).
- younger kid curled up by their caretaker while their caretaker plays videogames. bonus points if the caretaker lets them play like baby mode co-op (like luma in mario galaxy). bonus bonus points if the caretaker is like an older sibling and gives the kid an unplugged controller.
- older kid playing co-op with their caretaker and getting way too invested. bonus points if it's mario kart. bonus bonus points if they're showing each other their favourite games from their respective childhoods (because yk different eras).
- caretaker carrying an exhausted kid to bed.
- better yet, the kid pretends to fall asleep in the car so they can be carried inside (caretaker knows their game but is more than happy to carry them).
- caretaker having a hard day working late and coming home to their kid sleeping peacefully on the couch, clearly having waited for them to come home.
- kid having a hard day at school and caretaker is in the middle of making dinner for them.
- caretaker shielding kid from danger with their body.
- kid refusing to leave caretaker's side when they're both in danger.

I did not realize this got so long, so rambly word vomit under the cut
I do think more attention should be paid to the absolute horror Jason must have felt after coming out of the Lazarus pit like a foot taller and built like a damn fridge.
Like he died at 15, tiny, still small due to malnutrition and then the leading theory is that the Lazarus pit cures that and beefed him up. For one, that's gotta mess with his motor control a ton, especially when you consider that normal growth spurts cause a period of clumsiness (think jarring steps, toe stubbing, knocking your elbow on doorknobs or whatever), so a total body overhaul -Lazarus Edition™ - might be enough to keep him from even walking properly, let alone fight skillfully and gracefully.
Even if you say he got his coordination back from training or comic book science meant the pits didn't fuck that up, being small was probably a major part of his identity. Consider Jason before Bruce. He was tiny, but still resourceful and strong enough to jack tires. But being tiny was useful. Being tiny meant more hiding spaces were available. It meant he was unassuming. It meant people's eyes skipped over him. It meant avoiding attention. It meant safety.
And sure, Jason probably complained about being small when he was Robin. Probably even dreamed of being big as a street kid because being big meant having power, but being big on the streets meant being noticed and he knew that. It was something to dream about when he was older but not what he needed then.
I've also seen people headcanon that Jason is claustrophobic from the coffin, and I kinda vibe with that, and being bigger also screws with that because things feel so much bigger when you're small. If you think about it, elevators and the like probably felt a lot more spacious when you were a kid. So not only has his body been drastically changed without his consent (and I haven't really touched on that here, but also consider how it has to affect Jason Todd (who champions consent and autonomy and personal safety of the little guy) to have experienced nonconsensual body modification first hand like that) but it can actively cause him more mental distress.
And I think, coming out of the pit, the memory of his death still fresh in his mind, and stuck in the League of Assassins, maybe being small would have been comforting. He could still access all the same hiding places he would immediately clock. And while the image of a big man hiding somewhere clearly too small for him might be funny, it's also heart wrenching because he's lost so many safe places in a single moment.
Of course when Jason does go back to Gotham he's learned to use his new body and the fact that it makes him intimidating as hell, but I think there's another negative there as well. Because as Robin he comforted people. No Robin is ever soft but they are all almost definitely better at comforting victims than Batman (maybe not Damian, but he's a baby which is simultaneously more and less comforting) and a big part of that is because they're kids. Kids just aren't as intimidating as giant ass adults and I can imagine that this probably messed with Jason when he first got back to Gotham and tried to talk to the street kids or the working girls because those are groups of people who are going to be suspicious of men built like a goddamn fridge. He can't come up to them like he did as Robin, and I'm sure over time he's won their trust and they find him a symbol of safety, but the first few interactions have to hit hard because it feels like he doesn't belong in a place that's been his first home. That somehow he no longer fits right where he always did before.
I also can't imagine how disconcerting it must be to not recognize your reflection for like every part of yourself. Like, this one time I had makeup done for an event (not my idea) and it was so heavy that I didn't recognize myself and I felt so uncomfortable with that and that was just my face. My hair, my height, my build - all of that was still familiar, comfortable, but can you imagine being unable to recognize even that? And if he avoids mirrors to avoid seeing his reflection, he might not even be able to recognize himself in pictures and videos. (There's a fanfic with this idea and it definitely inspires this post because I honestly never considered this before and I thought it was so well written and such a good point that we don't pay enough attention to. You should totally check it out if you got this far.)
The last point I have for this post has to do with his relationship with Bruce. So typical timeline (I think) for Jason is he dies at 15, crawls out of his grave about 6 months later, is catatonic for 3 years, and then spends a year mentally present training with the League of Assassins on his world tour or whatever. I am fuzzy on the details here but basically from his birthday, Jason can't be older than 19-20 when he comes back to Gotham (I think 19 is the accepted age) but mentally he's 16 and for some fucking reason DC artists like to draw him like he's over 30. THIS IS A PROBLEM! Like this is an extremely fucked up 16 year old kid that should be trapped in a 19 year old's body but instead it's so much worse because (and I've seen someone describe him like this before) he's actually trapped inside the body of a 35 year old divorcee AND THAT IS NOT OKAY! Like even if we're gonna say that the Lazarus pit alters the body to peak physical health that would be like 22 or some shit. Past 30 is not a physical prime. You can be fit for sure at 30 but that doesn't change the fact that your ability to build muscle and heal and whatever else are probably better in your early to mid 20s and hey guess what that's still younger than Dick's accepted age (or maybe about the same (I have stayed up too late writing this to keep proper track of numbers)). But Jason looks older than Dick more often than not (the Gotham Knights game will never be forgiven for whatever the fuck happened to Jay's character design).
Okay sorry for the sidetrack, but Jason looking older is gonna fuck with Bruce because Bruce is gonna have a real hard time seeing his tiny, malnourished, never gonna top 5'4 Jaylad in this giant hulk of a figure, especially when the age is so off. Like imagine you have a kid who goes to college and does a ton of internships or research so you don't really see them for 4 years, you're still gonna expect your kid to look like they're 22-23. If they look like they're 35 you sure as hell are not gonna pinpoint that as your kid. So Bruce sees Jason and it makes sense that he doesn't think that's his kid BECAUSE THAT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE HIS KID! (I'm ignoring the moral differences in this post) So Bruce doesn't see a kid when he looks at Jason but Jason is mentally 16 and, despite everything he says to the contrary, he sees his dad when he looks at Bruce. Jason doesn't see an equal, someone who is just another adult. This is his dad, an authority figure in his life, someone whos opinions and words hold power over him whether he wants them to or not. But Bruce can't see that. Because Bruce doesn't see a kid. He doesn't see his son. He sees an equal and that's tragic because you're always supposed to be your parents' baby. Even when you're 50 with your own family and nearly adult kids, you're still gonna be your parents little baby. Because parents see their kids at all the ages they've ever been and it's the fact that Jason doesn't have someone who looks at him and sees him how he was when he was 2 and 7 and 10 and 13 and 15 when he still feels 16 that makes this so sad. Because no one's been his parent for long enough to really build that and Bruce can't see Robin!Jason in the Jason that came back.
Wow, uh, I'm really sorry to anyone who reads this. This really got away from me and it's super unorganized and I just kinda word vomitted all over this. This was just supposed to be about how his body was different. How did Bruce end up in this?

Based on this prompt by my beloved @puddleslimewrites <3
Hero didn't shrink under Superhero's gaze. They stared back, expression firm. "I know I messed up. But I did what I could to fix it and no one got killed."
"There are three civilians in critical condition in the hospital. You don't know no one got killed yet."
"What else do expect me to do? I did my best to make it right."
"I expect better from a hero of the agency!" Superhero tried not to raise their voice. They and Hero were standing in one of the agency hallways, this argument was far too public.
Hero crossed their arms and glared back at Superhero. "I never even wanted to be a hero! This is what you wanted. I did what you asked of me and look where it got us."
"You mean where you got us. Do you understand how much damage control I'm going to have to do with the press because of this? And with the agency and city officials?"
"Is that all you care about? The mess I made that you have to clean up? Don't you even care how this might be affecting me? Or I don't know, can't you at least be proud of me for taking responsibility and trying to fix it?"
Superhero sighed like they were dealing with a disobedient child that refused to go to bed. "I don't have time to hold your hand right now, I have the agency to deal with."
"Oh my god can you not be Superhero for one fucking minute and just be my mom?"
Superhero pinched the bridge of her nose. "We'll talk about this later. Just go home."
"I'm not a little kid you can just send to my room for timeout anymore. You-"
"[Name], go. home." Superhero shot her child a warning look. Hero held her gaze until she turned and started walking down the hall.
Hero resisted the urge to yell at her as they turned the opposite direction and stormed out.

I’m thinking about Danaë, Perseus, and Andromeda.
Danaë was a princess, once. Her happy life was upended the day her father caught wind of a prophecy that his grandchild would be his undoing. She was imprisoned in her own home, and when her son was born, she and the baby were banished and left for dead. Yet Danaë powered through, as heroes are known to do in these types of stories. This single mother in a strange land raised her son with pride — not hubris, but true, righteous pride. They have no need of gods or monsters or the kingdom that cast them out; all mother and son need are each other.
Perseus’s call to adventure begins when yet another evil king decides to treat Danaë as an object instead of a person. Polydectes will force Danaë to marry him unless Perseus can cross the world and return with the head of the Gorgon Medusa. Perseus is in no place to protest, not when the truest hero he’s ever known is counting on him. This is not a quest for glory, but piety: the duty a child owes to their parent.
In his travels, Perseus meets Andromeda, chained to a cliffside and awaiting her grim fate. She too, has a story of a mother and child. Queen Cassiopeia foolishly offended a long list of sea gods and their kingdom will be washed away unless the gods exact their price. Cassiopeia did the offending; it should be her on the cliff. But Andromeda has to suffer for the sins of her family, just like Perseus. He chose to risk his life for his mother; Andromeda had her fate chosen for her.
Maybe Andromeda tried to talk herself into thinking her death would mean something. She’s grown up as a princess, where each generation of the dynasty is meant to be in unbroken continuity with the generation before. The crown she is presumed to wear weighs down any hopes for her own life. If Cassiopeia tells her to die, it is her duty and honor as the child to obey. Secretly, she prays that her death will mean something for her mother — that the next child she has will be granted the freedom of choice Andromeda herself never knew.
But Perseus, raised by a mother worthy of her role, knows that is bullshit. He knows Andromeda deserves better than this, and he breaks the cycle by destroying the monster and breaking her chains, will of Poseidon be damned. And when Cassiopeia reunites with her child, it’s clear she has learned nothing. She immediately tries to force Andromeda into an unhappy marriage - just like what Polydectes means to do to Danaë.
Now Andromeda and Perseus are both angry. She is ready to let her so-called family crumble. She shields her eyes, and lets her suitor and her mother meet the Gorgon’s eyes. She walks away from the stone to which she was chained, into a new life of her making.
The young couple returns to Seriphos. Perseus saves Danaë from the dread altar. A worthy king claims the throne, and in a remarkable stroke of luck for Greek mythology, Perseus kills his evil grandfather without technically violating Ancient Greece’s taboos on kin-slaying. Andromeda and Perseus ascend to the throne of Mycenae, and have that rarest thing in any myth: a happily ever after.
Andromeda gets a husband and a crown, sure, but she also gets Danaë. Danaë is everything Cassiopeia wasn’t: humble, resilient, and loving. She raised Perseus well, and she teaches Andromeda how to stand tall against monsters: not the sea beast, but the creatures that would rather offer up their own children than admit that they were in the wrong.

Lily
"My Little Cocoa Bean" series
Summary: Ben/Bean (age 15) experiences his first major crush.
A/N: Mom/reader is mentioned but not part of the dialog in this one.
<><><><><>
Ben sat across the desk from his father in the factory office. This was typical for a weekday during the school year. He would often work on homework while Willy finished up the day's paperwork before they walked home together. But today, Ben was unusually distracted. He was looking at his paper, but Willy could tell his thoughts were far off elsewhere, especially when he heard the boy sigh.
"What's up, Bean?"
"Huh?" Ben blinked and looked up at his father, shaken from his thoughts. "Oh, uh, nothing," he replied quickly. Willy nodded, though skeptical, and they both turned their attention back to their papers.
Only a handful of minutes passed before Ben sighed once more.
"A double sigh. That's not nothing," Willy quipped.
"Well...I-" Ben rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly and blushed as he made eye contact with his father. "There's this girl."
Willy set down his pen and rested his chin on his palm, trying to hide a smile with his fingers. He had wondered when this would happen. "Do tell. Is she pretty?" he asked, waggling his eyebrows.
Tumblr media
Ben rolled his eyes and blushed again. "Yes. She sits in front of me in math class."
"Does she like you, too?" Willy inquired.
"That's the trouble. I don't know and I'm afraid she'll say no if I ask," Ben lamented.
"Ah, I see. But what if she says yes?"
"Well," Ben paused. "That makes me nervous, too."
Willy chuckled. "Quite the conundrum, son."
Ben scoffed and dropped his head into his hands. "I know, I know. What do I do, Papa?"
"Hmm. Well, you either ask and live with whatever her answer may be, or you agonize over what could have been. That is up to you; though, just a little life tip, the latter tends to lead to more regrets."
Ben bit his lip in thought.
"You know, chocolate is a good conversation starter. I could whip up something special, if you'd like?" Willy asked, to which Ben nodded fervently. "Alright!" Willy rubbed his hands together. "Tell me, what is it you like most about...?"
"Lillian, Lily for short. Well...she's sweet. And very smart. She helps me with some of the harder homework problems before class. She has really pretty blue eyes." Ben sighed again. He was certainly under her spell.
Willy put his hand to his chin. "Hmm, yes, I can work with that. I'll have something ready for you tomorrow afternoon when you come by after school."
"Thank you, Papa!"
"Just know, these will be special in that they will be one of a kind, but they won't have any special properties to sway her decision. If she returns your affections, it has to be her choice. And if she says no, you need to respect that."
"I understand, Papa."
"Good lad. Now let's go home to your mother and sister. Your mother probably has better advice about this sort of thing than me, anyway."
"Please, please, PLEASE, just don't tell Charlie yet. She'll just pester me."
Willy mimed zipping his lips, laughing about the dynamic between his children. He clapped Ben on the shoulder. "Maybe wait until after Miss Lily says yes."
<><><><><>
As promised, Willy crafted a beautiful batch of milk chocolates for his son to gift his crush the next day. He painstakingly piped a tiny bouquet of white lilies and a blue bow made of icing onto each candy and wrapped them in a white box, which he also secured with a blue organza bow. He finished up just before Ben was due to swing by after school.
Willy heard the side door open. Assuming it was Ben, he announced, "Special chocolates for a special girl, coming right u-" He stopped when he spun and saw the bewildered look on his son's face. "What's wrong, Bean?"
"She asked me."
"What?"
"Lily asked me if I'm keen on her. She likes me, too. She likes me!" Ben shouted excitedly.
"Aaha! That's great, my boy! Well, then these are ready for you to take to your girlfriend." Willy handed him the wrapped box of chocolates. "But it looks like you won't be needing this for a boost of confidence, then." In his other hand, he held a small sleeve of giraffe milk macaroons.
"Actually, I could really use those for my math test tomorrow. I've had a terrible time paying attention," Ben said through a grin.

So the basic idea that came to me late at night for Baby Dream was more of less this weird little mash up of Matilda/A Little Princess and Definitely Platonic Dream and Hob :
Baby Morpheus who's like, 6, is from a family with innate magical gifts, that are related to their canon ones but nowhere and near as strong
And one day  gets kidnapped by Roderick Burgess, who was trying to get his older sister Teleute but his henchmen grabbed the wrong one
So now Morpheus is being held in the basement (not in a glass case just in a locked room with some magical protection around it that keeps him from leaving)  while Burgess tries to figure out what powers he has and how they can be exploited
Morpheus in this stays silent out of terror/trauma more than any stubbornness, and he himself doesn't fully understand his powers so he doesn't know how to answer Burgess's questions anyway
His only source of comfort is his raven plushie Jessamy, who he held onto when he got grabbed
So of course one day Burgess rips it in two in an attempt to intimidate Morpheus into speaking
That night Morpheus in despair crafts himself a dream that when he closes his eye he'll wake up somewhere safe, where he'll be cared for and loved and never made to feel afraid (his home of course wasn't too great either, Night and Time are still terrible even as mostly human parents)
And so he goes to sleep, and dreams that he wakes up in a cozy bed in a room made just for him
And the kindest man he's ever seen is in the kitchen making pancakes
Hob Gadling would normally be surprised to see a tousle haired tot shuffling into his kitchen but this is clearly a dream so he's not that weirded out, and while he doesn't understand why this sad but sweet little Dream child is here--he doesn't look anything like the son he lost-- but he's still happy to play caretaker again for this one night
So he makes pancakes and plays games and reads stories and slowly draw the little Dream boy out of his shell until at last Hob tucks him into the little bed in the room that exists only in this dream--and the Dream child finally smiles up at him, and it's the sweetest thing Hob's seen in a long while
Hob wakes up wondering what on earth could have prompted such a dream, but happy overall he had a nice one where he got to take care of a child, instead of the nightmares he usually has about the loss of Robyn
And then it happens again, and again. Each night for a few months Hob dreams he's taking care of a tiny boy with the messiest hair and bluest eyes he's ever seen. And though he never says anything each night the Dream child becomes a little less fearful, a little more happy and open, and Hob finds his heart opening more and more to this little stranger who's come into his dreams
Morpheus meanwhile is still trapped, still subject to Burgess's abuse, but at least now each night he has an escape with the kind man in his dreams. Each night he "wakes up" in his room in Hob's dream version of his flat excited for the time they'll spend together and he's always desperate to stay in the dream as long as he can, dreading waking up for real to the dark reality around him, knowing that at this point the people who know he's missing have long stopped looking for him
Hob however has started looking. He's sure this recurring dream must have some sort of meaning, he's never dreamed like this before, so consistently, so clearly. So he starts looking for clues online, if anyone else has had similar experiences. Finally he even has someone draw the child from his dreams, making corrections until it's as close as he can get it
And the picture once posted leads him to discover the disappearance of six year old Morpheus Endless
The moment Hob sees the child's photo he knows it's his child, the Dream child. And he knows he has to figure out how to help him. He doesnt know if Morpheus is dead--he hopes to anything he's not--but he's determined to find him and save him from whatever it is that puts the sadness back in his blue eyes each night
Que Hob trying to wheedle things out of baby Morpheus each night about his location, as much as he can with Morpheus being six and  locked away and still not speaking
And Morpheus not being sure whats happening, his dreams are supposed to be his safe place where he doesn't have to think about the bad place he's in
And Burgess finally starting to reach the end of his rope with this stubborn silent child who's been more trouble then he's worth
But of course Hob finally manages to discover where his Dream child is, and bursts in good old fashioned Fishbowl Rescue style and breaks down the door to Morpheus's prison
There's this long moment where they both just  stare at eachother, each not quite aure they're not still dreaming--and then Hob scoops Morpheus up in his arms, whispering that "it's ok now little Dream, you're safe"
And for the first time in months Morpheus actually believes it
Hob takes him back to his flat that night. Morpheus's room doesn't exist in the waking world but he makes him a bed on the couch and tucks him in tight and safe, and that night Morpheus for the first time in months doesnt need to craft a dream to help him sleep
(And once they've called the police and Morpheus gets returned home and Hob sees what a wreck it is there he gets him out legally (probably all the other Endless kids too) and gives Morpheus (and the others) a real home)

Regarding an explicitly biphobic/implicitly queerphobic mess of a Dear Abby column
@znj
Responding in a new post because I couldn't fit a thoughtful response to this into the character limit for a tumblr comment But this is unfortunately a fairly measured response from the parents as far as baby boomer/gen x parental responses to this sort of thing go in my experience. Obviously, asking the daughter to not bring her same sex partners around is homophobic and Not Good, but they are as far as I can tell explicitly acknowledging her sexuality rather than challenging it, and are also not blaming her for the broken engagement, and are writing out of concern for her because of how her ex-fiance treated her and how her partners after that treated her. The also seem to consider her problems with her same sex partners as an extension of a pattern that also included how her opposite sex-fiance treated her. I also don't think that they're blaming her daughter for what they see as bad relationships but are rather concerned for her wellbeing. A proper response from a columnist would make it clear that the string of unfortunate relationships has nothing to do with her sexuality, highlighting the connection/thread between the biphobic opposite sex ex-fiance who mistreated her and her partners after that, would suggest that the issue most likely has to do with her daughter's sense of self-esteem and self-worth, and that they should both do their best to support her and try to encourage her to seek proper professional counseling to try to change that perspective. Getting into and staying in toxic relationships because of a lack of self-worth is both a problem I have had myself and have known many other women who have had (and I am sure men have this problem too). Instead the columnist opens with bisexual erasure and then tells her to seek lgbt-specific counseling for an issue that is irrelevant to her sexuality. I would say that the column is not only one of the worst messes I have ever seen come out of dear abbie relative to the current year but actively worse than the letter despite the columnist attempting to take a smug lib position wrt LGBT.

Shredder Defeats Splinter ⚔️ | Full Scene | Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
I’m still on my TMNT 2012 nostalgia trip! Don’t judge me lol.
There are a few things I realized about Splinter’s sad death scene that make it even more painful on rewatching it:
After Raph and April’s initial screams when Splinter is impaled, there is no music or other distracting sounds. Just Splinter painfully wheezing for a few seconds. What a brutal way to die.
When you cut to Splinter lying on the ground after Shredder tosses him, it looks like Splinter is breathing rapidly! If I had not watched the show before, it would have given me a false sense of hope. Either this is an animation error or Splinter was alive for a few moments after hitting the ground. Does anyone else see this or are my eyes playing tricks on me??
Mikey and Splinter had no real moments together. Just look at Mikey’s memory with Splinter. That moment was not about Mikey, but Donnie. In that scene, Splinter was teaching Donnie about fighting without thinking and Mikey was just used as a demonstration. How tragic. All of Mikey’s major storylines have no or little Splinter involvement whatsoever.
Leo’s memory is the only one that features Splinter smiling. I do not know whether it conveys favouritism or ends the memories on a sweet note.
Mikey calling Splinter ‘Papa’ hurts so much. Calling Splinter ‘Father’ was already rare in the series. When did Splinter stop making the turtles address him as a parent?! We did not see much of Splinter being a casual dad with his sons.

5 REASONS WHY YOU MUST NOT KISS YOUR CHILDREN ON THEIR LIPS
I know you probably have only good intentions and for you this is a cute way to express affection, but since you don't know how your child will react and it is very risky it is better not to do it in our culture. Here is why:
1. Your child DOESN'T NEED OR DESIRE your kisses on their lips, at least not until you create this desire as a primary way to make them experience love from you. You are the one that want it or need. You can express love in many different ways, I can assure you your child won't miss not being kissed on their lips.
2. It CONFUSES ROLES AND AFFECT YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THEM. Lips kisses are primarily associated with romantic relationships, and since not all parents do this, children can make question and feel confused about the meaning of it. This habit can also negatively affects family roles, in fact the impact is also stronger when there is not a strong romantic relationships between the parents and when there are single parents. Therefore the child could perceive him/herself as a parents's romantic partner, so this habit can make the definition of family roles worse and in your relationships with them.
3. It can NEGATIVELY AFFECTS CHILDREN'S SELF PERCEPTION WITHOUT THEM OR YOU REALISING. Children always think that what happen to them is their fault and so they usually don't express what they think, so you don't know now if in years later this habit can result in feeling of self-disgust and shame, to feeling violeted. These negative sensations, maybe unconscious can stay also in teen years creating an unease feeling with the relationship you have with them until they realise or remeber and process what happened.
4. Kisses on the lips CREATE ADDICTION. Kisses on lips wake up the need of lips to kiss, I don't think it is ok for a child to experience this in such a young age. This can have consequences as starting very young to have a little boyfriend/girlfriend just for satisfy this need.
5. There are many STORIES OF PEOPLE WHO REMIND THIS PARENT'S HABIT WITH UNEASY FEELINGS. Children accept this habit because they love you and trust you and they are too young to know its impact. But there are many experiences of grown-up that, even if their parents were good parents, still remind this habit with uneasy feelings. Some forgot this experience since it created shame, felt violeted without knowing why during teen years and when adults they remember it and talked about it with their parents, got healed and the relationships with them got repaired.
Maybe kissing your child on the lips won't have consequences, but why to risk?
Are there also good reason why to do it?
No, since your child doesn't need your kisses on their lips.
There is no reasons to do it and many and many reasons not to do it or to stop.
What to do if you already started to kiss your child on their lips?
This post is not to make you feel bad about yourself but to be aware because even with all the good intentions we can still hurt without realising, and this can be totally avoidable with more knowledge.
So just stop kissing, it is better if you do it, gradually and by substituting it with other expression of love (so they won't experience a reject), without them asking later to stop maybe with shame.
What to do insted:
The impact of your acts on children surely depend also on the type of family you are and how much parents express affection on each other, so finding balance will look different in every families. For any cases, use all love languages, and for the physical contact, hugging and kissing them on their cheeks and head will satisfy their needs. Avoid also kissing their neck and using other typical romantic expression of love (romantic candlelight dinners only with your child, etc.), children are not completely unaware and one day they will process it and may feel bad for these things.
Normal cheeks and head kisses are absolutely perfect and children will feel loved receiving normal parent-children expression of love.
