Ohh, so many brilliant sounding titles, can i ask about "An Oliphant or Two" please?

I'm so glad this one intrigued you, this idea has been floating around in my head ever since I joined the Hobbit fandom (but I've just never sat down to actually write it out whoops).

The idea of this fic is that Bilbo and Thorin are living peacefully in the Shire, raising Frodo as best they can. Often times that includes having playdates with the young Gamgee boy, Samwise. Sam loves coming over to Bag End, if not to visit with his best friend, than to listen to the stories Mister Bilbo and Mister Thorin like to share. They tell tales of trolls, shapershifters, and dwarven mishaps, but perhaps Sam's favourite stories are the ones that include Elves—much to Thorin's dismay and Bilbo's chagrin.

One day, during a playdate between the boys, the topic of wild creatures are brought up. And so begins tales of wargs and ponies, and Radagast's amazing rabbits, and various other creatures of that sort, which leads young Sam learning about Oliphants. He's transfixed. Cannot get enough about them.

By the end of the week, a present awaits him.

This story centers around the first weeks of the adoption of Frodo, and how Bilbo and Thorin deal with the boy! It’s very family-centric, fluffy, it has some elements of drama, and romance. It’s 39 pages long, so I’ll try my best to upload two pages twice a week on here and my other socials!

“It’s hard to believe he’s a year old,” Bilbo sighed, one arm hooking through one of Thorin’s, and a hand reaching out to wiggle at one of Frodo’s feet, helping to contribute to the reason for the dwobbit’s giggles. “It feels like just yesterday that Frodo came into our lives.”

And what an adventure that had been.

An adventure that had started with the innocent intention of simply planting that acorn that Bilbo had held onto all this time. Only when the ground was fertile and recovered from the battle a few years prior had he felt that the little seed would thrive. To grow strong into a big protective oak to watch over Erebor, much like the king himself. And after having planted that seed together hand in hand and atop a pile of dirt, Yavanna had been gracious.

The acorn had sprouted, and as months went by, that little sprout was tended to with all the love that a parent might give their child, whether it was Thorin or Bilbo, it never went without proper watering or even just company. And over time, the gift of that acorn was far more than that of a tree beginning to take root - but a blessing that Bilbo didn’t think was meant for him or Thorin.

Hey there! I was wondering if you had any favorite festive Bagginshield fics! Modern Christmas or Hanukkah or Thanksgiving, or Hobbit-era Yule or harvest festivals... anything that isn't too sad! I'm asking around to different blogs because I have been in a holiday mood lately and want to see what different people have come across!

Oh wow, what a great question! I'll be honest, I haven't read too many of the festive fics myself - this is going to sound weird, I expect, but I only actively seek them out at the right time of year, if that makes sense? But! You're quite right, and 'tis the season, so I'm super excited to see what other folks have recommended, too!

I will say I recently read "Home for the New Year" by the illustrious and ever so clever @chrononautintraining - one of my absolute favourite writers for the Bagginshield fandom. It's an incredibly sweet read, beautifully put together, with lots of domesticity, mutual pining, misunderstandings, willful ignorance from Bilbo, and some very soft and lovely parentshield, in a wonderful reshirement setting 💛 I very highly recommend it if you're looking for something warm and fluffy to keep the cold at bay! (Do mind the rating, though!)

This was a lovely question, I'm sorry I couldnt offer more recs for you. Thank you for including me!
