Feeling unexpectedly somft about Darryl helping Hector put together a new gun after he gets back from far harbor, cause iirc they were friends by then, but she hadn't developed any feelings. But I'm just imagining them hanging out as usual, except now instead of just having a drink and shooting the breeze, they're inside at the table covered in parts, plans, and sketches while trying to design something, maybe even starts the trend of legit infodumping to each other since Darryl knows a lot about guns, and Hector has his fields of interest
Idk, seems like it would be a rare but otherwise nice period where they have an equal amount of both interest and knowledge about smth for them to go "same hat!" over. And the midst of it is when Darryl decides that maybe she is a bit more fond of this weird little dude than she thought, actually
Definitely not thinking about her just thinking like. Ah hell. And can't help but smile a little after he excitedly bursts through her front door with an armful of blueprints and parts he's made since the last time they hung out
Incredibly good, I love it 🥺
I imagine them being a little apprehensive about it at first maybe? They've learned by now that they're cool to hang out with, but they never sat down and did an actual project together. Or at least not as a fun pastime. Every other time they were hunched over plans and blueprints, it was minutemen/raider business related, which isn't necessarily a good time. So what if it turns out like that? Or if their chemistry for building shit together just doesn't work?
But then it turns out it is fun and they do have good chemistry and they just get so engrossed in it. Darryl starts infodumping about weapons and Hector's just 👀👀👀 trying to absorb every ounce of knowledge. Also grows fonder himself because omg... now she's speaking his language, she's so enthusiastic about it and so smart :0

Ninjago: Jaya - Vivid Memories
To Take Place in the Very Near Future
“Good morning…”
The sunlight seeped into Nya’s eyelids as she heard the soothing voice wake her. “Did I oversleep again?” She mumbled with her cheek still squished up on her pillow.
“Technically, yes.” The response came. Nya groaned, but then the smell hit her. “Did you…” she opened her eyes all the way to see her boyfriend holding a platter of breakfast food. While stretching her arms out, she gave Jay a puzzled look. “And this is for…?”
“Does it have to be ‘for’ something?” Jay mocked as he rolled his eyes. “And Zane helped a little before he went out with Lloyd. Kai and Cole went to do their own thing…so we have the temple all to ourselves today!”
Nya smiled and patted her messy bed head to a controllable shape. “Well if that’s the case…” She reached over and pecked a kiss on Jay’s lips before eating a forkful of scrambled eggs. Jay crawled onto the bed and crossed his legs to hold up the tray as Nya ate.
As Nya took a sip of orange juice, she eyed his outfit. “Going casual today, huh?”
He shrugged as he nibbled on some toast. “Didn’t feel like taking the effort to put on the suit. I think a jacket will do for today.”
Nya furrowed her eyebrows as Jay’s text sound went off. He quickly checked it. After taking a second of reading, he threw his head back and groaned.
“What is it?” Nya mumbled through a bite of eggs.
“It’s your brother,” Jay groaned. Nya rolled her eyes. “He’s asking me to go help him out with the little project he’s doing?”
“Oh what, building a temple for himself?” Nya teased as Jay showed her the text. “Actually, not far off. He’s seeing if the Fire Temple can be rebuilt, and now he want’s my help to do some heavy lifting.”
Nya took a bite from Jay’s piece of toast. “Wouldn’t Cole be better for that?”
“He’s busy, I guess.” Jay quickly answered. “Well, would you like to join me?”
Nya smiled as she placed the tray to the side. “I have nothing better to do,” she smiled. Jay grinned back before kissing her forehead. “Then get dressed! I’ll clean up breakfast.”

Nya and Jay landed softly on the grassy field right outside the bridge to the once-grand Fire Temple. Now, the volcano was dormant, not even a puff of smoke escaped the enclosed top. The wooden temple was now barely a skeleton structure of badly burned wood and hardened magma. Nya gave Jay a dirty look. “My brother wants to salvage this?”
Jay chuckled and slipped his fingers into hers. “Don’t say that too loud,” he whispered. Nya burst into laughter as they crossed the bridge and into the fallen temple.
“Oh good, you brought Nya,” Kai said as Jay and Nya approached him by the crumbling steps.
“This place has seen better days,” Nya told her brother. He nodded to that as he tossed a long charred piece of wood to the side.
“Hopefully it will see more.” Kai concluded. Nya turned to Jay, who was rubbing his hand on a tall column that was still partially standing. She smiled.
“This is the first place we met, right?” Nya asked Jay. Kai glanced up from what he was doing.
“Cole had damaged my throat so I couldn’t speak,” Jay recalled as he slowly walked toward her. “But I wanted to ask if you liked blue.”
Nya laughed. “That is sooo corny.”
Jay laughed at that as he tossed a piece of debris to the side. “But you said it was your favorite color-“
“-and it still is,” Nya confirmed. Kai rolled his eyes and tossed away some more wood.
“And that’s when I knew.” Jay was now face to face with Nya. She gazed lovingly back.
“That’s when I knew too.”
“Oh, get a room!”
Kai tossed a piece of wood at Jay, who easily caught it. “Sorry, Kai, but the whole temple burned down because of you, remember? There aren’t any rooms.”
“It wasn’t my fault!” Kai argued. “It was the Serpentine! They made the volcano unstable!”
Jay’s text sound went off. As he pulled out his phone, Nya rolled her eyes with a smile. “I thought you were using your golden weapon after I told you not to.”
“Well- that too, but-“
Kai was interrupted with a gasp from Jay. Nya turned to him in surprise. “What’s wrong?”
A huge grin spread on Jay’s face. “Cole just got two free tickets for Mega Monster Amusement Park! He’s wondering if we want to go!”
“What!?” Nya cried out excitedly. “Of course!!! Tell him to meet us there!!”
Nya grabbed his hand and pulled Jay back and over to the bridge. “Sorry Kai!!” Jay wailed. “But an amusement park beats cleaning ANY DAY!”
_____________________________________________________________
Cole was leaning against the fence as Jay and Nya swooped in on the lightning elemental dragon. Jay and Nya dropped to the ground in front of him as the dragon dissolved into crackling lightning before disappearing.
“You should be glad you came when you did, I almost used a ticket on myself!” He chuckled as he handed the tickets over.
Nya grinned madly. “How did you ever get your hands on these?” Jay looked at Cole anxiously.
The black haired ninja glanced at Jay briefly before crossing his arms. “The radio station I listen to on my phone was having a call-in contest and I called in and won! Just got back from picking them up.”
There was a in increasing thunder and the shrieks of people as the roller coaster flew by them at the fence. Cole patted Jay’s shoulder. “Well, you two have fun!” he walked a few steps before creating his own dragon and flying off.
Nya turned to Jay with a huge grin. “What luck, right!” she exclaimed giddily. Jay smiled back. “What luck! Let’s go on the roller coaster a few times.”
After getting into the park, they walked up to the line for the roller coaster. Nya watched as one of the cars sped by overhead.
“Remember when I was chained to one of those?” she recalled as she fixed her bangs from the wind. Jay followed the car with his own eyes with a smile.
Jay looked back at Nya, his eyes sparkling with the memory. “Like it was yesterday. Only I remember me being more…reptilian than usual.”
Her eyes widened. “Oh right! You were infected with the fangpyre venom… oh my gosh…” Nya put both of her fists close to her face as if picturing Jay as a snake. “You made a very cute snake.”
Jay blushed before leaning towards her a little. “Thankssssssss.”
She giggled and let Jay slip his hand around her waist. “How did I cure you, I forgot that part of the story,” she smiled as she spoke softly to his face.
Without hesitating, Jay pulled her in for a quick kiss. He pulled back with his eyes shining. “Does that jog your memory?” he replied. Out of the corner of his eye he saw the people in line behind him roll their eyes.
Nya ignored them too as she hesitated. “Hmm, nope. I guess I have to be on the coaster to remember.”
A few minutes later, Jay and Nya were giggling non-stop as they looked at the coaster picture, where they were midkiss while the riders behind them had their eyes wide in shock at the teenagers kissing during the ride.
“I am so buying this,” Nya giggled as she handed over some coins to the worker behind the desk. As she got a copy of the photo, Jay’s phone exploded with beeping. “Uh oh,” Jay gasped as he scrambled for it, recognizing it as a distress signal. Nya slid the photo in her purse but kept her eyes on Jay as he looked down at the call. “It’s Lloyd and Zane, they are in pursuit of someone dangerous in the city and need backup.”
Nya narrowed her eyes. “Seriously? The Green Ninja and the Nindroid need help?”
With a shrug, he took her hand and they dashed out of the park before forming their dragons to soar to Ninjago City.
______________________________________________________________
“Over here-“ Jay called as they swooped through the city. With a roar of her dragon, Nya turned and followed her boyfriend around the corner of a skyscraper before eyeing three figures on a rooftop, one in in green, another shiny silver, and another in brown.
“There!” Nya shouted and she sped by Jay like a bullet. Releasing her dragon, she sailed through the air and landed on the enemy in pursuit, sending him tumbling on the top of the building.
Lloyd and Zane rushed by and tackled the enemy like it was a football game. Crossing her arms in confidence, she smirked as Jay landed softly next to her. “Nice move,” he complimented. Nya smiled at that, but then something caught her eye.
“That billboard…” she murmured as she turned to it. The billboard was not in use besides for graffiti or street art, but the design was too familiar…
“Oh,” Jay laughed as he jogged over to the giant board before Airjitzuiing to the catwalk in front of it. As he turned and extended his hand, it clicked in Nya’s head. “We are on top of the hospital! This is where…” she drifted off, realizing she didn’t have the words to describe what exactly happened here. Before she could speak, Lloyd caught her by surprise as he walked up behind her.
“Thanks y’all-“ he began, causing Nya to flinch and almost punch Lloyd in the face. Fortunately, Lloyd is a ninja and had fast enough reflexes to deflect the blow. “Whoa, sorry. I need to stop sneaking up on you.”
Nya shook her hand and smiled. “No, that’s your job. I need to be more aware…I was just lost in thought.”
Jay jumped down and joined the three of them, looking over to see Zane holding the masked criminal against the wall. “Well, glad she could get the job done.”
Lloyd nodded before looking up at the sky. “Well, it’s getting close to sunset, so you two should head back to the Temple. Zane and I will take care of this crook and we’ll catch up with you both later.”
Agreeing and giving the blonde leader high fives, they both took off on their dragons to head to the temple. When they hit their normal altitude, Jay looked over to Nya and noticed the pain on her face. “Hey, are you okay?”
She looked up with wide eyes, as if she didn’t realize she was showing off her discomfort. “Oh- yeah I’m fine. It’s just…” she sat back a little and rubbed her hands on the reigns of the dragon. “The billboard brought back some memories…like some really vivid memories-“
“Of us kissing?” Jay teased with one of his huge smiles. Nya rolled her eyes at him as usual.
“No…well, yeah but that’s not the memory I’m thinking of. Nevermind. Forget it. I’ll forget it too.”
Jay knew very well that if Nya said “Forget it,” she really meant it. They both stayed quiet for the rest of the flight back to the Temple.
Back at the hospital, Zane let go of the struggling man in brown. With a gasp, he ripped his mask off and his one beady eye glared at Lloyd. “You didn’t tell me Nya was going to slam me to the ground like that!” Ronin spat to the ground. “Thanks for that. Now my back hurts.”
______________________________________________________________
The sun was almost touching the horizon when Nya and Jay landed back on the floating land mass. Nya hesitated when she landed and looked out across the land. “Wow…” she breathed as she looked at how the golden sun turned the fields and deserts a shimmering orange. In the far distance, the outline of the city was a silhouette against the red and orange sky.
Jay walked over to Nya and soaked in the view for a few seconds as well. Finally, he took a long and shaky breath. Nya looked over.
“Can…I be honest with you?” Jay spoke slowly and carefully. Her eyebrows bunched together in surprise. “Of course, always.”
He took another nervous breath and stuck his hands in his pockets. “I have those memories too, like the really vivid ones. A lot of those memories are triggered by what I see most of the time…but the worst memory always comes back when the sun is this color and I am standing on these temple grounds.”
Nya dropped her gaze to the ground. Jay looked over, his blue eyes glinting in the sunlight. “I know what you were thinking about earlier, with the billboard. And I know how hard that is to think about.”
“Jay-“ Nya tried to interrupt, but he shook his head.
“No, I need to say this. I remember that memory and it hurts so much because I don’t want to believe that you…you….” He looked at Nya straight on, both eyes connected like a wire so taught it was about to snap.
“…You died.”
Nya dropped her gaze. Jay kept his eyes on her for a second longer before he looked back at the sunlight. “But…I now know the reason why that memory hurts so much is because you didn’t just die…I died too.”
Nya’s heart thudded so hard in her chest she was sure Jay could hear it.
“I couldn’t live without you, Nya…and I don’t think I can now. Or ever, for that case.” He turned back and carefully slipped his hand into hers. She looked over at his hand before looking up at him. He smiled warmly at her.
“You are my everything; my life, my death, my passion, my cause, and most importantly…my wish.”
She laughed at that, and Jay grinned. He took one last shaky breath.
“So, I don’t want this place to be a memory of death anymore, but a memory of life.”
Nya chuckled. “Jay, you can’t change memories.”
His eyes sparkling like never before, he brought her in a little more. “But you can make new ones.”
Her mouth opened a little with disbelief, but then it opened even more as Jay continued to hold her hand as he slowly dropped to one knee. He carefully pulled a small box out of his right pocket.
Nya was completely speechless as Jay released her hand only to pop open the box to reveal the glittering ruby ring inside. “Nya….” He looked up at her with a huge grin, mainly because her cheeks were almost as red as Kai’s suit.
“Will you grant my greatest wish,” Jay began, and Nya laughed aloud. “and marry me?”
Still unable to speak, she nodded quickly. Tears brimmed at her eyes as Jay sighed and slowly slid the ring onto her finger. Almost instantly he jumped up to kiss her, but she put his hand over his mouth.
“Before we do that, answer me one thing,” Nya asked to Jay, whose eyes were wide. She tilted her head a little. “Did you plan today out with the others?”
Hand still over his mouth, he blinked before nodding. Nya shook her head while laughing, and then slid her hand to his cheek and Jay jumped forward to lock in a kiss to his fiancé.
