The Night's Meow ~ ☆

Welcome! To the Feline Haven known as "Night's Meow."

A place where felines of all breeds can find shelter,food,health checkups,social interactions and a place to sleep the days away.

The felines here are all rescued or brought in needing one or more of the above. All felines and some partial felines are welcome. If you see a cat that looks weary or lost please bring em to the haven.

Our owner will give a checkup,food and see if someones reported a missing cat so can return em to their family. If no one has reported they get to stay at the haven.

Owner and workers

Currently the owner is Damián Reed Delgado. You can ask him anything about the Haven he will have answer. However due to his nocturnal nature the eariler you can find him at the haven is 3pm for the hour on class days as he just checking in before sleeping more before class. Non-class days he is at the haven at 5pm and will be there all day unless something needs him to leave.

The only worker who not a volunteer is Eric Salazar. He a Serendipia 3rd yr who's passion is cats and Damián. He is rarely seen anywhere else but the haven other then in class. He sometimes can be found napping near Damián's dorm or with him if he napping outside. Eric isn't fully nocturnal he flips his sleeping schedule so the cats are taken care of in the mornings thus always looks so tired cause of this. He really only speaks to Damián and volunteers. He seems scared to talk to anyone else. He has a special one of a kind tag that says Cat Cat.(see tag means below)

Rooms & Services

There are 10 rooms within that provide services for haven residents.

Play Room ~ Room full of cat toys,towers,and things that zip across the room. Enjoy watching or playing with the cats here. Treats are volunteer given only in this room so reward em for doing something cool.

Nap Room ~ Cat beds,blankets,boxes galore! This is were the cats go to nap or sleep. Also is place where the lazy cats dwell. There's sleeping essentials for you too so you can grap a pillow and blanket to snooze with them.

Food Room ~ Place where all food/water dispensers. Refilled daily and cat door is magically timed to let in set number,let them eat then move that group to play room then open to let in another set. All cats get fed 3 times a day with 2 treats. Chonky cats have separate room if they are on diet which is determined if they having health issues.

Medical Room ~ Where all the checkups happen. Checkups are performed by the owner or the Cat Cat. Volunteers can watch and ask questions during these. If feel can handle it owner may let you do one by yourself.

TV Room ~ Cat movies,cartoons,and sounds to relax cats. This just a room with a giant tv that randomly plays stuff and all the cats watch whatever it is cause they are curious or entranced. This room is also where the owner does small cat parties or just sits and watches movies with them. He often nods off in here if he tired.

Kitten Play Room ~ Same as above but just for the kittens of the haven.

Kitten Nap Room ~ Same as above but just for the kittens of the haven.

Kitten Feed Room ~ Same as above but just for the kittens of the haven.

Outdoor Litterbox Potty Area ~ All fenced-in and constructed by the owner and Ignacio Luna,a student. This area is all automatic. Cats go in and go out safe and cleanly. After abit of time all litter boxes are clean with fresh litter. All waste is collected in barrels that are hauled away to be dispose of. Of note all haven cats are trained to use this area immediately. Only kittens amd older cats arent due to difficult but theres measures for them too that are clean and safe.

Bad Kitty Room ~ This room is for haven residents who been bad. Fighting,misbehaving,attacking a volunteer,etc they get sent here. The owner personally is in here figuring out what to do with the naughty individuals but mostly just gets his cat Alma to give them a stren talking to. Cats in here usually spend about 15mins or longer depending on what they did.

The haven is runned by just two people,Damián & Eric but is also open to Volunteers from all dorms or even staff. Only need ur student or staff ID and pick a tag then good to go. Blog 5: a relationship with nature

Not being given a topic to write about is definitely something I’m not used to. For as long as I can remember in school, writing was more for the teacher reading it than it was for myself. I normally write what the other person expects to see, which doesn’t always include my own thoughts or opinions. This week's subject on nature interpretation through science is a very vast topic. With most of us here working towards a bachelor of science, this has been our primary way of interpreting and learning about nature.

There's a lot we can learn from textbooks and lectures, but nothing beats actually experiencing nature first hand, and in my mind is crucial to truly understanding it. The video by Kitty and Jenny in the arboretum is a great example of this. Some of the things they talked about like the organ pipe mud dauber and the goldenrod galls were new information to me, but learning that through an interpretive outdoor walk was much more interesting than reading it in a research paper or textbook.

In the book I am reading, “Braiding Sweetgrass” by Robin Wall Kimmerer, she described the time she gave her third year university ecology class a survey asking them to ‘rate their understanding of the negative interactions between humans and the environment.” Almost everyone in the two-hundred-person class agreed that humans and the environment are a bad mix. Later on, she asked about positive interactions between humans and the environment, with the average answer being there are none. What the students fixate on is the culture they’ve grown up in where the land and water are constantly being harmed by human actions. Although, this is not true for all cultures as Robin explains throughout the book.

After reading this part I could admit that I partially thought the same way as them. Throughout university we often learn about the wrong doings we have made to the environment and all of its cascading negative effects. In the geography and environmental science courses I’ve taken I’ve learned more about global warming, pollution and the negative impacts on natural systems than I have about learning to connect with the land and what it really needs. Conservation is geared towards implementing a scientific proposition to reduce our effects on the environment, rather than changing our relationship with it.

There are a million quotes I could take from this book since it has such a deep and powerful message. Overall I think it highlights how society has become disconnected from the environment that we rarely take the time to recognize that everything comes from another life. We as humans have the responsibility to look after and respect our environment. Creating a relationship with nature and appreciating it is the first step in showing our gratitude for all it does for us.

What they smell like: Like an old library

An otp: Thomas/Humphrey. Every so often Thomas sees Humphrey as more than an object, and Humphrey is able to let his guard down around him knowing he won't be punted that day. The two would bond over their artistic pursuits in life, be that poetry or painting. I have a lot of soft feelings about this pairing, though there's some heavy lifting to do on Thomas's part to get him to be nicer to Humphrey.

Thomas/Fanny is a new interest of mine, as a short-lived affair when Fanny was still new to the ghost crew.

A notp: Thomas/Kitty romantically (but I am partial to Kitty having a one-sided schoolgirl crush on him. Once Thomas found out, he started playing into it, but then she wasn't interested anymore)

Not a strict notp, but I'm not interested in Captain/Thomas. No big reason as to why, I just don't care for them together in that way (weird considering I ship Humphrey with both of them individually).

Favorite platonic/familial relationships:

Thomas/Kitty as besties, I DO think!!! There's a lot of fun to be had with these two, with them both being hopeless romantics and slightly annoying about their infatuations. They're supportive of each other nonetheless.

Thomas/Mary, I see the vision, I see it for them! Mary has no issue putting Thomas in his place, and she apparently is a voice of reason for Thomas. There's a lot that can be explored with these two. I also like the idea of Mary having been attracted to most of the ghosts in the house, except Thomas. And he takes that personally lol.

A headcanon that is popular in the fandom but that I disagree with: I don't think Isabelle was Thomas's true love. I think she was one of several women that he became infatuated with. It's just tragic that he happened to die over his feelings for her. Also idk if it's a popular headcanon that Isabelle was his true love, but yeah, I don't think she's the Sophie, Carol, or even Havers equivalent to Thomas's backstory (depending on how you choose to read Havers' significance to Captain).

The position they sleep in: he sleeps like a vampire, on his back, arms crossed along his chest.

A crossover AU I'd love to see them in: I would love a WWDITS crossover in general, for all the ghosts, but Thomas specifically. I would love to see him fall for both Nadja and Laszlo.

My favorite outfit they've ever worn: He's only got one outfit that we've seen, but the jacket he wore with it in The Thomas Thorne Affair makes the outfit more cohesive.

Pat:

A song that reminds me of them: "Gotta Get Up" by Harry Nilsson. Pat wakes up each day ready to be productive!

Pat/Julian I really enjoy! They're the ghosts who are closest in time, both in life and death, so I enjoy watching them bond over pop culture references that the others don't understand.

Cap/Pat. I see the potential for them to be romantic, but I also like them as friends. Aside from Fanny, Captain is the closest to Pat. Sometimes they're at odds regarding who's the "real" leader of the group, but they seem to have a lot of respect for each other.

A headcanon that is popular in the fandom but that I disagree with: I don't think this is a popular headcanon, but Pat is not as politically correct as he may seem. I mean s3 kinda confirmed that, but yeah. There are levels to Pat that I think go ignored in fic and headcanons sometimes.

The position they sleep in: he could only sleep on his back due to the arrow, right? So yeah, on his back, even though he hates having to sleep like that.

A crossover AU I'd love to see them in: Not a crossover, but a band manager AU would be interesting for Pat!

**update: I guess I should've elaborated, but the reason I don't ship Kitty romantically (anymore) is because I'm assuming she's somewhere around 18-19 years old, and the others are just much older -- the closest in age to her might be Thomas, but headcanon him as early 30s, or late 20s at the very least. and I used to be in the Kitty/Mary train, but thinking more about how Mary would have watched her grow up, shipping them romantically feels a bit off... so yeah ✌🏾

Inspired by having to get my coworkers cars unstuck in the snow, I thought about how the LITG islanders would deal with snow the whole drive home when I wasn't sliding through a red light.

Bobby: Cannot drive in snow. Even if there's just a dusting on the ground, he'll refuse to go anywhere. He slid off the highway once while trying to take an exit and it 100% made him anxiety cry. He just assumes that if it's snowing, no one else is traveling, then gets confused when people say "um no... life goes on..." Plus Bobby's shitty little car gets stuck so easily, and his tires has zero tread, so he probably shouldn't be driving it any ways.

Hannah: one of those bitches who will still drive even though she doesnt know how to drive in snow. She doesn't know the techniques of when to turn the wheel, how to control drift, how to break, or how to floor it when you need to go over a plow bank. She'll get stuck, you'll help her get unstuck by pushing, then she won't give it enough gas and will get stuck two meters away.

Gary: Loves helping getting cars unstuck. He gets weatherproof mats specifically to help with traction and always keeps kitty litter and a shovel in his trunk. He gets up at dawn every morning to shovel. When he and MC have kids, he has infinite patience with them """helping""" shovel (re:playing in the snow while he shovels). He takes a lot of pride in his snowblower and will do the neighbors' sidewalks as well.

Graham: you know he has tire chains. It's just a fact.

Lily: is so damn stubborn and will always try to drive even if there's an advisory and she really doesn't need to. She's gotten stranded a few times because of that, and it takes a LOT of snow low visibility to convince her it's bad enough to pull over.

Lottie: is late to literally everything because the 'roads were bad'. That's partially it, but she also doesnt start digging out her car until 5 minutes before she needs to leave.

Marisol: hates shoveling and will pay for a company to come and plow her driveway. That being said she loves the aesthetic of snow- how it dampens all the sound and makes everything look clean and crisp. She definitely sits in an outdoor hottub while it's snowing or wrapped in a blanket on a porch. She's pretty happy to work from home if the roads are bad.

Noah: is the most careful when the roads are bad- drives super slow, always gives ample following room, hardly ever comes to a sliding stop because he's really good about breaking gradually but intermittently. He always insists people text him that they got home safe, and will happily drive for someone who is anxious. He's probably over cautious, but it serves him well.

Rahim: so I have this ongoing headcanon that Rahim doesn't drive- he gets chauffeured or rideshare everywhere- so Rahim can't drive in the snow. But highkey, I think he would be the best person to be with in a crisis situation. You get caught in a blizzard with him and he knows exactly how to calm everyone down and prioritize what needs to happen. He definitely has an emergency kit that he travels with, and at his apartment. Imagining waiting out a blizzard with Rahim in a no-tow zone 🥰🥰🥰

Talia: I think she enjoys shoveling because it gives her a sense of accomplishment, and it's a physically exhausting care task. Nothing like working up a sweat to take care of your home. She's a good driver like Noah but takes a few more liberties with speed and risks.

that little kitty bit me last night when she heard my cat meow from the other room and she freaked out :( it wasn’t a bad bite, but I also don’t think I’d be able to get her into a carrier to take her to a vet to scan for a microchip

my mom told me now I should probably let her back outside. she said if the owners were going to see my fliers and posts they probably would have by now. I mean I agree... if they even tried looking at all in the obvious places they would’ve seen them. so obviously no ones looking for her or maybe she is a partially outdoor cat and they aren’t worried about her

but I don’t think I can safely get her to the vet and since no ones reached out to me, I think I’m gonna let her go... my mom said if she can’t make it home, she’ll probably be in the area or come back to my apartment. so tonight I’ll walk around and if she’s around I’ll take her back inside and try again. but her best bet of finding her owner now is probably to just go back to them... I do think that if she doesn’t find them she’ll come back around here and I’ll see her again

so I’m hoping I’m not releasing her into her death and making her freeze tonight, but she also really wants to go out and won’t stop sad meowing and I’m really scared she’s gonna bite me at any second again 😭 ngl when she bit me last night I had a full breakdown because it’s just so shocking and feels like such a betrayal. I just wanted to help her but I think I did all that I can do :( at least all I can do without getting hurt more...
