I finally figured out why the response from the global left made me so angry.
Jewish leftist, including myself, never hesitated to condemn the Israeli government and Israeli citizens for their treatment of Palestinians. for example- I know were I was in Huwara. I was calling out the brutality of the pogrom done by right wings extremeness, criticizing it, calling for punishment of the terrorists, warning that this escalation of violence would do nothing but continue the violence. we did not try and justify it as a neutral response for the murder of two people, no, I knew that this kind of behavior has no excuse.
and we did the same every single time. the Israeli left always knew where it was when the Palestinians were the victims of violence, we often stood right there next to them.
and the leftist of the world loved it. held us up to prove that they are right, "you see? even they agree! free Palestine!"
and we expected the same. we expected that if the horrors will come to us, the global left will support us. We knew that they struggle since Israeli missiles hit while Hamas/Hezbollah/Jihad missiles get intercepted by a system that costs millions to operate. but surely, they kept saying that they would have spoken out if the Jews are in danger, they will stand with us in our grief.
and then came October 7th.
and we were shown once again that we are nothing but a token.
people celebrated the attack, and even those who did notת hesitated to condemn it. It was people being butchered in their own homes, a fucking war crime! all while they were hurling hundreds of missiles at civilian targets! at homes, at playground, at hospitals!
and yet, if it was not celebrating, the global left was silent.
I read a colon by a Danna Frank she described how an Israeli women who study in Yell was shaken and crying the entire day, and no one asked for her well being. Frank herself received messages from friends abroad during that day, and one of them asked after the well being of Palestinian waiters in Ramallah and offered them prayers and not ask after her own fucking sake. Seeds for Peace, that always had what to say at the beginning of any Israeli operation, stayed quiet for days, when they did post something, it was to call against violence from both sides, not even mentioning the massacre. and there are so many more instances.
It hurt so much because it was a betrayal. a prof that we are only cared for when we are either a token or dead.
We stood up again and again and again for the rights of others, against our own deeds, and when it was our people left dead on the ground, the quiet was disturbed only by the sounds of celebration.
We should have known
The Israeli left and the Jewish left stand alone in the global stage.
We now know who are allies are.

Look-
Anyone who tries telling you that both parties are the same and there is no point in voting? Has a fucking agenda, and it's a nasty one.
Do the Dems disappoint me? Yes, constantly. Do I have gripes with Biden? 100%.
Do I also recognize that he has GOTTEN SHIT DONE and that those things are like. NOT talked about by people my age because it feels better to be angry and constantly demanding better while being unwilling to put up with Average Joe who is ACTUALLY doing things that progressives have been asking for for AGES (putting caps on medication prices, working to cancel student and medical debt, investing in infrastructure and going after inflation, started working on protecting reproductive rights after Trump put in place the shitty judges who wrecked Roe, is trying to go after how weed is scheduled and pardoned all federal offenses, et-fucking-cetera).
Not only do I actually LIKE some of the shit Biden is doing? If Trump gets back in office? People will die. He and his have been OPEN about the fact that they want to go (somehow) even MORE fascist.
Fucking vote. Anyone telling you not to has your worst interests at heart. Be as pissed off as you want, but fucking VOTE. Because we have a chance of continuing to push a president like Biden towards the change we want to see. We have ZERO chance of that with Trump, or someone like him.

the main thing that "leftist" goyim need to understand is that there isn't one definition of the word "zionism." "zionist" is not an insult, and it does not beget genocide or colonialism, because zionism for jews has many different meanings, each with their own interpretations of the state of israel and action points regarding palestine, with only a tiny portion of those advocating for any sort of violence against palestinians. if i had to boil everything down to brass tacks, i'd say zionism is the feeling that jews have a connection with eretz israel.* but there's so much that falls under that umbrella. there's christian zionism (which jewitches just did a wonderful episode discussing it and its genocidal roots with a very good bibliography [link here]), there's theodore herzl's definition that's like "yes i love colonialism let's do that!!!" (but also he was also toying with the idea of all the jews moving to argentina?). there's some (very few of whom are jewish) zionists who are uncritical of the israeli govt, there are some that want to see it dismantled immediately, and obviously there are many that lie somewhere in between the two. there are some jewish zionists who see medinas israel* as a miracle, and there are others who see it as blasphemy (either because of the belief that am israel* should not return from diaspora until the arrival of the moshiach (messiah), or because medinas israel has been doing a lot of monstrous, heinous, honestly un-jewish shit supposedly in the name of jews and judaism)
it is impossible to quickly sum up the wide scope of zionisms that exist today within judaism, not to mention those outside of it. however, it is important to note that for many jews, zionism is a word that merely describes longing, or even a longing for the ability to long. to quote my rabbi: "for me, zionism means i wish eretz israel was a place i longed to live." (the reasons why it isn't are the same reasons why any one of us critiques medinas israel—it is a horrid state doing horrifying, unspeakable things. to my rabbi and to many others, zionism means the eradication of medinas israel as it exists.)
there is currently a problem of people talking past each other, where some say anti-zionism is antisemitism and others say all zionists have blood on their hands. many of those in the camp of the former are often so broad in their definition of anti-zionism that that phrase is rendered nothing but unhelpful (at best), and many of those in the camp of the latter have such a narrow understanding of what zionism is that it completely turns off anybody who does have a more complete understanding of that word
this post is not intended to even scratch the surface of describing the meanings of all the different zionist movements and beliefs that haven't coalesced into any movement on any wikipedia page. rather, this post is to show non-jews who identify as leftists that are still open to learning about jewish experiences that zionism is not what the snappy, tens of thousands of note posts will lead you to believe. to those who say "death to zionists" please know that jews will not trust you, because you're calling for the deaths of a lot more jews than you think
eretz israel = the land of israel
medinas/medinat israel = the state of israel
am israel = the people of israel (jews)
these are all terms that are frequently used in jewish spaces and liturgy, especially the first and third. i have made the personal decision to use them in my daily conversations, because in liturgy that i interact with daily, "israel" means the third one, and i am very conscious to delineate the three, and especially to draw a distinction between the state of israel, the land that is so central to jewish liturgy, and the jewish people

was having a conversation last night at the egg party and i gotta say it was really interesting to hear similar opinions abt religion as the ones i had as a 13 year old annoying internet atheist coming from the mouth of a woman my moms age. but also she was raised catholic and i think being exposed to catholicism would do that to me too

The number of people I saw reblogging shit about how "violence is a form of resistance" and "what did you think decolonization meant" in the early part of October now acting like they're all peaceniks as if we don't remember how they behaved. Do they remember how they behaved?

But you know what? Rewatching CATFA, the part where Abraham Erskine was shot and killed by a Hydra spy, I kept thinking this: yes, I know that Hydra had spies everywhere, but I had kept thinking that Peggy had something to do with Abraham's death. Because he died almost immediately after Steve was injected with the serum, and how did that Hydra spy get into that secret room in a bookstore so easily??? I still think Peggy had something to do with Abraham's death, not JUST that Hydra spy that Richard Armitage played..
Peggy says she's supervisor of all SSR operations (but then jumps a foot in the air when her boss shows up behind her, and then spends the rest of the film carrying clipboards. So is she really?)
Neither Col. Phillips or Howard Stark are framed as anything to do with 'intelligence.' So, according to Peggy herself, the person in charge of making sure there aren't any Nazi spies around is... her.
Then she goes to a top-secret base in Brooklyn. And there are shady guys hanging around outside, and she doesn't notice.
Then we're introduced to a Nazi spy embedded at the State Department. Peggy again doesn't notice. (And hasn't noticed before this time.)
When that guy sets off a bomb and kills Erskine, Peggy grabs someone else's gun (she doesn't have one of her own) and misses every shot at him. She fails to stop the saboteur, who looks to be successfully escaping with serum.
(Even in other universes, where she's in the room with Erskine, she's still inept at stopping him being killed. In fact, even more people get shot if she's in the room.)
So Steve has to chase down the saboteur barefoot.
When Steve wants to go off to raid a Hydra base and rescue soldiers, she tries to dissuade him from doing that -- even though she was acting like she wanted Steve to quit his anti-Nazi money-raising job a second ago.
She's also shown to have intell. on what the Nazis are up to -- she knows Krausberg is a factory. And yet her 'plan' to help Steve amounts to flying through enemy gunfire, dropping him in the middle of a Nazi weapons factory, where Red Skull is that very minute, and which is also laced with explosives.
(Tantamount to dropping Steve on a minefield, really.)
This, while Steve has: a wooden shield, and no means to communicate except a flimsy transponder, and no back up plan for if the flimsy transponder proves useless.
And then, despite her acting like she's Boss of Intelligence, she cannot get planes to find any any aerial reconnaissance to show the 107 have survived. (That's 500+ men marching back to base in broad daylight over 3 days, and Miss Spy can't manage to spot them.)
And when the soldiers come back, safe and sound, she looks not pleased at all but rather pissed off about it. (Because Steve wasn't under her control, or paying her attention).
When Steve is about to jump on the Valkyrie, to go stop Red Skull, she stops him and makes him kiss her.
When Steve is about to crash the Valkyrie and save millions from Red Skull's final plan, she tries to dissuade him from doing that.
Oh, and she of course throws a temper tantrum and fires a gun at Steve (in a way which coincidentally endangers multiple other people).
Then it's revealed in CATWS and What If...? that she hired Nazis and happily worked with them, in exactly the circumstances which she herself admitted she would in AOS. In AOS she also claimed she, alone was solely responsible for the Nazi-hiring decisions, and in the one universe where she, alone, wasn't in SHIELD... there weren't any Nazis in it, either.
It's also shown that she's power hungry for the serum herself, would monologue like Red Skull about it, would literally step over Steve's bleeding gunshot body to steal it from him, and throw more violent temper tantrums about not being given more power immediately (also literally throwing her weight around).
And that if she knew Bucky was being tortured and enslaved for decades (ditto the child victims of the Red Room) she wouldn't do anything about it.
This in the MCU, and the Cap movies, where not ignoring a situation "pointed south" is explicitly framed as what makes you a hero.
("When you can do the things that I can, but you don't, and then the bad things happen ... they happen because of you.")
All of which is to say:
if you wanted to write Peggy as a Nazi villain doing heinous shit on purpose (including feigning constant incompetence as a nepotism hire, which coincidentally always benefits the Nazis), and/or thinking she's the moral center of the universe despite this, you wouldn't have to change a single thing about the character herself, only the way other characters treat her.
🤷‍♀️

Biden deserves to lose, we don’t deserve Trump, we also can’t send a message that doing a genocide is okay and something that isn’t punished. What world do we have if Trump wins? What world do we have if a genocide is rewarded by a re-election? I don’t know. I don’t know.
There’s no simple, obvious right answer here. Thats the whole problem. You can’t wave this all away with “but Trump is worse.” You can’t tell me rewarding a genocide with a re-election isn’t terrible for humanity. You also can’t tell me Biden won’t bring this brutality home
We need a real plan for January 2025, that isn’t just “vote dem. No shut up and vote dem” — we have to engage with the fact Biden and his administration are losing themselves more voters every day.
Local community safety councils, people’s assemblies, etc— ASAP

That rabbit comic is brilliant because it can apply to more than just to terfs and misogyny:
During WW2 there were Jewish people of privileged status who sided with the Nazis, hoping to be spared only to be turned on. Same with homosexuals, communists and any who thought surely they would be spared if they cooperated. They met the same fate as all the others if not worse.
There have been many times in which PoC became class traitors who helped pass legislation hoping it wouldn't affect them only to be hurt by the changes as well.
The list goes on and on, in which instead of standing in solidarity, some would try to selfishly try to save themselves by throwing their brethren to the wolves only to perish along with the rest.
Sadly the cycle continues because by the time the wolves are done eating, there are few if any that survive to pass on the story.
Oh for sure, I’ve heard of the gay Nazis before they are probably one of the most extreme examples of this I can think of. I believe they justified themselves by referencing how the Greeks, who were their ideal aryan civilization or whatever, were famously gay. Didn’t work for too long they were eventually killed by the other Nazis

absolutely fucking jarring how the media is much more interested and concerned in what YOU think about Hamas than they are with the thousands upon thousands dead Palestinians, and the inhumane conditions in Gaza. Every single interview with a Pro-Palestinian is just “yeah we know Palestinians are being killed, but that is not the important question here; do you condemn Hamas? do you not feel an ounce of empathy for Israelis?” literally fuck you.
and I’ve said this before(in a post deleted by tumblr, fuck u for that!), Israeli government and every major western media have made it their mission to depict Hamas as a terrorist group that is “worse than ISIS”, or worse than anything we have ever seen before, in order to justify the genocide of Palestinians. decontextualising the palestinian resistance and depicting Hamas as an invariably evil nihilist-cult is important because it gives Israelis the consent to carry out mass genocide of Palestinian people in the name of anti-terrorism. it should be very clear to anyone that the endless bombardments of Gaza are not simply reprisals to “terrorism” but strategic methods to ethnically cleanse Palestinians in Gaza.

G-D I LOVE RESPONSES LIKE THIS! Really puts me in my place and shows how much of a saint you are...
P.S. Fun fact: Did you know that the Chinese government recently deemed Muslims or practicing Islam as a "mental illness"? I'm not joking... Go ask them.
Israel has done no such thing.. yet look how they are demonised for being "the bad guy". They house 2 million Arabs (most of whom are practcing Muslims, and they dare not tear down the Dome of the Rock)... and yet are attacked and called an apartheid. Give me a break.
Pot calling the kettle black, I always say!

I am not advocating for or against anything, but I feel like people simply don’t understand that conversations around Israel and Palestine have a different valence for Jews around the world, even Jews who are anti-Israel, given that “Zionist” is so often used to mean “kike.”
