Once Again Keeping Myself Motivated

From the moment she came into the world she was surrounded by family. Even though they weren’t all blood related the entire ranch considered one another family. The Pasofinos were only one of the many who called the Lakota Ranch their home. Being raised on a ranch meant that she grew up around animals and immediately found a love for them. In fact, more often than not Rain felt as though they understood her better than anyone else. Most of her hours were spent at the barn or with her best friend Little Creek. He had a natural talent for training, always known for taming the most wild of horses. She learned a lot watching him as they grew up and started to train herself. The pair would spend hours on horseback, getting lost in the trees, and finding their way back at dark. Rain provided the soundtrack of their lives as she would sing from behind Little Creek as they weaved down their favorite trails. For as long as she could remember she was singing but never considered it anything more than a hobby. That was until she turned sixteen and the duo realized something about her voice that made it special. She was able to do more than just sing with her voice but allow whoever was listening to feel the emotion that she wanted them to. Whether it was sadness over her first heartbreak or confidence while riding horseback. This was something only she and Little Creek knew, planning to keep it that way in order to not put Rain in any danger. They knew how differences were perceived when it came to those possessing a magic gift. It was after a large crowd at a summer festival had heard her singing during karaoke and all ended up in tears after she sang a song she wrote about her ex. After that, she stopped singing in public and kept it to the shower or the barn instead out of fear someone would find out.

Besides Rain knew she wanted to work with animals from a young age, wanting to be around the creatures that had brought her so much happiness over the years. After graduating high school she decided to study to become a vet but things changed. Of course, things had to shift when her father passed away after an accident on the ranch with cattle he was wrangling. That was when she started working towards laying the groundwork to open up an animal sanctuary. Rain couldn’t stay in the place she’d known for all these years without him and that’s when she found a small piece of land to start her sanctuary on Echo Isle. Little Creek was able to get a job training horses and in his off time helping Rain continue to run the Little Creek Sanctuary which she named after her closest friend. Since moving to the isle Rain has been working hard to grow her business, eventually opening daily for people to come and visit the creatures she’d been caring for. She wanted to help those learn about the animals that so desperately wanted to be loved. Even if she hadn’t ended up as a vet like she’d once planned, Rain thought she’d done something good with the work she did. Now she cares for creatures that need her of all shapes and sizes while working to educate people on caring for the world around them. Still, she hasn’t been able to fill the hole in her chest upon leaving the ranch and is hoping that the longer she is here it’ll start to fill in again.

What she uses her powers for the most often is to sing to the animals. Whether it’s to help calm them down during a procedure or tired after a long day. Even though she couldn’t always offer them everything, she hoped that her gift could bring some good.

She calls her mom almost every day. They talk often, regardless of being apart. As much as she wishes her mom could move to the Isle she knows that her life is on the ranch. Rain just hopes that she is doing her parents proud.

The horse that she’s grown closest to at the sanctuary is a Palomino stallion named Sunny. He was quite stubborn and didn’t let just anyone close to him but she’d been able to gain his trust. Besides, they seemed to suit each other well in the most surprising ways.

No animal is turned away at the sanctuary or not as far as she can help it. Even when the bills are tight Rain does what she can to help every animal that needs it.

Part of her is worried she is going to fail and she’s terrified of it. She loves what she does and gives it her all but she's afraid that won’t be enough without a better income. Rain takes donations when they come but some months are better than others.
