couldn’t reply directly to that last reblog bc they have my main blocked for some reason lol anyway y’all gotta stop playing dumb, you know full well i’m not getting worked up over characters looking at each other, and to be honest most of y’all in this fandom should re-examine how you react when people bring up concerns like this. i just got one or two people mocking my initial post which y’know weird way to go about it but i’ve seen people get genuinely harassed and sent anons for calling out weird behavior and it’s like. most of y’all are in your early to mid twenties not being able to handle mild criticism, not even of the content itself, but how you handle posting it and it’s a little sad tbh. like if people say “hey, that’s probably a little too much for this tag that a lot of younger fans frequent” and your response ranges from rolling your eyes at it to accusing them of puritan culture (not what happened here but something that i have seen a lot in this fandom) that’s probably something you should work on.

Things I'd like to see in season 3

Slight Spoilers Ahead!

--A callback to "A Pinky and the Brain Christmas" in "How The Brain Thieved Christmas". Nothing too big, I want the two-parter to do it's own thing and not be a rehash, but it's hard to imagine that there wouldn't be a reference to it given that the reboot often references events that happened in the first show and the PatB spinoff. Maybe reveal that Brain still has the globe keychain, something like that.

--If Slappy does indeed return (and it seems like she will), for Slappy not to be softened. Not that I think it will happen, but this is their first time writing for Slappy in the reboot, so I expect her characterisation will be at least a little different. Which I'm fine with as long as they don't change her morality. I say this mostly because the last time she had dialogue was Wakko's Wish, but she felt a bit too mellow in that. She's not like the Warners who, while I won't deny often act in self interest, do tend to help people in their own zany, annoying way ("La La Law", "Hooked on a Ceiling", "Magna Cartoon", etc). Slappy, on the other hand, only really looks out for herself and Skippy, and can be way harsher because she lacks their moral code ("The Sound of Warners"). This is the same woman who tried to blow up up a critic's house whilst she thought he was inside all because he didn't think she was funny and threatened to blow up a jury if they didn't vote her not-guilty on a crime she technically did commit...and then when they did she blew them up anyway. Not that she's never justified, she keeps to herself often only does this type of thing in retaliation (the previously mentioned jury were clearly biased against her), but still, let her be mean and violent!

--Assuming Slappy comes back, for them to include Skippy. He was already in "Good Warner Hunting" and was shown to still be a kid, so aging him up isn't an option, meaning he's either gotta be left out or be re-casted. I'm really hoping they just recast him, there's no need to write him out just because his original voice actor is no longer a child. I don't like it when characters are written off or killed off just because their original voice actor can no longer do the voice, it feels unnecessary to me. If Slappy is on her own then fine (because let's be honest she's the one we watch her segments for), but Skippy brings out the best in her, I think he should be there.

--More Scratchansniff in general, but specifically him acting like a father towards the Warners (in more than one episode). Nothing too cutesy, the Warners will always find ways to stress him out, but I much prefer it when he's attempting to take care of them.

--Hopefully a satisfying ending to Julia's story, but given that they didn't know season 3 would be the last when writing this season, it's not likely. Not their fault if this one doesn't happen, I'd be happy enough to see her return.

--A FULL WAKKO SONG. Multiple Wakko songs actually, that would be great. I do prefer the other two Warners over him but they each have multiple songs in the reboot whereas Wakko only has one so far-"Gruesome Ol' Gruel"...and it's like 50 seconds long. I think he deserves more (Yakko got four in season 2 alone!) Scratchansniff has more songs than Wakko in the reboot so far. Granted, he didn't sing much in the original series so it's great that he sings more here, but him getting more new songs than a main character is kinda weird. Well, I guess you could count "Hot Washed Buns", but I don't (that one's even shorter than "Gruesome Ol' Gruel" anyway). I think this one is likely, season 1 focused a lot on Dot and season 2 focused a lot on Yakko, so maybe season 3 will do the same for Wakko!

i'm watching the 3rd season of animaniacs, and i've heard of people from patb fandom who basically only watch it for silly mice i am actually starting to consider the opposite, to skip pinky and the brain segments completely that is to say, it's not like i hate them or anything, the problem is more that i like them too much, and with each episode, with each unravelling of an intricate plot, with every endearing and/or insane dialogue i feel myself falling deeper and deeper into the mice rabbit hole... or mouse hole, i guess? and that feeling is very scary i imagine that by the end of the season i will go completely nuts, with no therapy course in the entire world that would be able to rehabilitate me i can already feel some of the symptoms kicking in......

See and this is why it's so hard for me because I get it. Like they're mice that's their whole thing. But I guess I was imagining with them as humans they could live in a house together and be like dating or married or something and they could go out on dates and stuff and Pinky would be nervous about his whole werewolf thing coming out in front of people and whatnot. But that doesn't really give Brain a whole lot to do I suppose. Sure he could still be bent on world domination but I get that it sorta loses it's whole appeal with him as a human. Maybe he'd try to cover it up by saying he wants to be president when in reality he wants to rule the world or something.

With them as mice... I dunno I think I might get bored drawing them in the lab all the time? Which is what i think was sorta making me stray away from it. Which no they don't have to be in the lab they could be carrying out schemes and stuff but I don't know I guess I just wanted even more of a twist than patb is exactly the same except Pinky goes awoo and is scary sometimes xD

There's so much to think about lol which is probably why it's taken me so long to make. And yeah at the end of the day it's not a huge deal but it's something I really wanna do.

So I’ve been into Sam and Max for a few weeks now and learned some stuff about the making of the cartoon, more specifically that whole thing with how Max was apparently supposed to be genderbended, which got me thinking.

Ok so first off, the context of what I’m talking about : in an interview, Steve Purcell talked about the show and mentioned how the Geek was a boy at first, which prompted the executives to ask for a female character, specifically requesting for Max to be a woman. The interview is on youtube, with the video called “Steve Purcell on Sam & Max”. And between the title and what is said, I’m assuming the guy talking is indeed Purcell.

The reason why it got me thinking is due to a comparison with two other cartoons, “Pinky and the Brain” and “Darkwing Duck”.

  Thing is, all three cartoons have that same theme of two guys working together, with a lot of gay subtext put into the mix. But there’s one thing both PatB and Darkwing have that Sam and Max doesn’t : a woman that serves as romantic interest.

In PatB, you have Billie for Brain and Pharfignewton for Pinky. As for Darkwing, you have Morgana as a love interest for Drake.

(Funnily enough for PatB, both relationships have some gay subtext. Billie and Pinky have similar personalities, making it look like Brain fell for a “girl Pinky”, while for the second relationship, Pinky calls out people’s intolerance everytime he gets questioned for liking a horse, preaching that love is love.)

  But in Sam and Max, there isn’t a single character that fits that role. Sure, you can have a woman showing attraction to the boys there and there, but it’s never something that drags on for the whole episode, let alone the show.

From what I remember, the closest we got to that was that “Honeybunny” secretary, and even this led to a joke about Max thinking Sam is talking to him, followed by the secretary seemingly making a move on Sam with Max immediately jumping in-between them. And her appearance at the end of the episode doesn’t lead to anything either.

(Reminder that I’m only talking about the cartoon here, hence why I’m not mentioning Mama Bosco in S2. Tho, even then, the whole dialogue with her is the duo trying to convince her that Max isn’t interested. And even after making Max act straight, you can talk to him afterwards and he comments on how it’s only going to last a month before he’ll “be back to normal”. So she’s not much of a love interest either. Also side note but Max calling his lack of attraction for women “him being normal” is absolutely amazing, especially coming from an early 2000s game !)

  My point with this : while I know they wanted a female character for representation, the fact that the executives saw this show’s idea and asked for one of the titular characters to be turned into a woman definitely feels a bit sus.

Tbh, when I first heard the interview, a few days afterwards I forgot that the executives were the ones who asked for female!Max and for a moment thought that they asked for more “female companionship”, only for Purcell to show up with the idea of making Max a woman. And while this isn’t how it happened, it would’ve been very funny.

Like, imagine someone is making a show with gay subtext between the main duo, so you ask the creator to make a female character (*wink* *wink*), only for the creator to come back with one of the two guys genderbended. Because fuck it, if these guys have to be in a het relationship, it will be with each other !

  Thinking about it, the fact that the executives asked for female!Max might actually make it funnier. I mean, imagine you pitch a show with two male leads that has some gay jokes here and there, and instead of saying “give one of them a girlfriend or something, this is the 90s !”, the executives basically went “wanna make their relationship even more explicit ? :D”

No because let’s be honest here, had they gone through with genderbending Max, and given the amount of subtext this cartoon has (if you can call it subtext honestly…This is plain text at times), Sam and female!Max would have absolutely been an item. Or at least a lot of cishet of the time would have assumed them to be.

Nah because I’ve been thinking…like why did they never pair the Warners with PatB? I can just imagine Yakko annoying the shit outta Brain while he’s trying to work on his plans and Wakko just asking him the most insane questions known to man. Also, I see Pinky and Dot getting along real well and just vibing over different interests. Fanfiction did this to me.
