Bless You, Hawkeye (s9 e17): Hawkeye starts inexplicably sneezing uncontrollably until Col. Potter suspects it's psychological in nature and calls in Dr. Freedman.

it’s missing hawkeye pierce hours 😭😭
Oh, Anon. Are you watching S10, E17, "Where There's A Will, There's A War"? Where Hawkeye goes missing and BJ loses his mind over it? Where Hawkeye writes his will while under heavy fire, and can't think of what to leave his best friend, his BJ? Where BJ finally realizes Hawkeye's alive because the patient he's treating has Hawkeye's distinctive stitches in him? Where Hawkeye finally returns home and BJ tells him to "remind me to give you a kiss in the morning"?
Yeah. Good luck, Anon. Godspeed.

Royai Horoscope
A Roy and Riza Character and Relationship Analysis based on their Zodiac signs
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Image Source: Fullmetal Alchemist Playing Cards
Disclaimer: I am not suggesting horoscopes are scientific means of analyzing personality nor that it is accurate. This is just for fun!
Roy Mustang
Birthday: 06/01/1885 (on basis of Roy’s Day and his actual birthyear)
Zodiac Sign: Gemini - the Twins
Element Sign: Air
We may think he’s more suited in being a Fire sign, but if you take a closer look with how Roy creates fire, it all makes sense. Hiromu Arakawa shares in one omake that Roy creates fire by controlling the amount of oxygen in the air. I believe Flame Alchemy is based on the concept of control. We only notice the times Roy has lost control, but we fail to appreciate all the times he maintainted it. He’s not what he seems from the surface, and this is why we think he’s always not what he appears on the surface. Which leads us too conclude that he may appear two-faced.
Traits:
two-faced - like most Geminis, Roy tends to have a reputation of being two-faced. His personality depends on how others treat him, and how he views them. He loves to stir rumors and gossips, creating an impression that is completely different from who he actually is (E14, FMAB) (I’m making a more in-depth character analysis about this, but one that is based on psychology)
(this is a long post, so if you want to keep reading, be my guest!)
social chameleon - being the life of the party, Roy knows how to socialize with different types of people. He can easily read the room and know exactly what other people want to hear from him, as with most Geminis. This makes him extremely popular among townsfolk and political leaders.
social chameleon - being the life of the party, Roy knows how to socialize with different types of people. He can easily read the room and know exactly what other people want to hear from him, as with most Geminis. This makes him extremely popular among townsfolk and political leaders.
flirtatious - and of course, Roy is popular with women, as stated by Team Mustang (FMA 03, E37). He’s naturally flirtatious, whether he does it on purpose or not. Like most Geminis, Roy jumps from one date to another. But we see him go to dates to collect information before tackling a conflict, another trait of Geminis. He asks Olivier for dinner as a disguise to relay information and planning (FMAB, E42-46 im not sure which one). Again, every action he does isn’t what it appears on the surface. And of course, he deliberately makes people believe he’s a womanizer. He shares his reason for being Führer was to let female officers wear miniskirts (FMA 03, E13), but later on we see it’s because he wanted to protect people (FMAB, E10). This leads us too concluding that he’s...
intelligent - most Geminis don’t appear to be smart at first, but when taken a closer look, they’re rather cunning and have remarkable wit. As seen with how he strategizes plans, Roy’s intellect is unquestionable. He even competes with Maes Hughes during their military academy days (FMAB Special E04). Aside from that, he is also emotionally intelligent, as in most Geminis. In another iconic scene, Roy immediately knows something is wrong upon talking to Riza on the phone (FMAB, E38)
optimistic - in general, Geminis are the kind of people who look forward to the future rather than attempting to change the past. Roy is actually optimistic. We never see him falter or mope around, he’s always the one who says “we can do better next time.” He tells Ed to stand up and have a chance on getting their bodies back rather than sulk about what had happened (FMAB, E2).
impulsive - due to Gemini’s adaptability and versatility, they never stay in one place. We see Roy move from one date to another and procrastinate on paperwork (FMA 03, E37). Riza frequently tells him not to be reckless, (FMAB E01, E05 - encounter with Scar, E19 - coming to the scene). When Roy had offered her flowers, he reasoned that he got “too drunk” and ended up buying a carload of flowers (FMAB, E38). Another one of his two-facedness. Although it was an excuse, Riza paid no attention to it. Maybe because she was that used to his impulsiveness lololololol. But we see this trait heighten when he was consumed with anger and vengeance on Envy (E53-54).
Riza Hawkeye
Birthday: 09/01/ 1887-1889 (based on Riza’s day and age range)
Zodiac Sign: Virgo - The Virgin
Element Sign: Earth
Earth signs are always grounded. We see how Riza always keeps her calm in situations (except when she thought Roy died lol). It’s no wonder how she holds Team Mustang together and keeps their sanity. Sometimes I wonder how she puts up with them lol.
Traits:
perfectionist - like in most Virgos, we see Riza always striving for the best. This is most evident in her specialty: accurate gunshots. When a military officer complimented her for striking the bull’s eye in the firing range, she told him “I still have a long way to go.” (FMA manga, Volume 6). Kimblee even taunts her, “Doesn’t it make you feel satisfied when you hit the target on one shot?”, whose words hit Riza like her own on-point bullets (FMAB, E30). In FMA 03, we see her blame herself for not being there on time. Roy replies by saying the world isn’t perfect, but that makes it beautiful (FMA 03, E51).
hardworking and organized - she gets things done stat. She does Roy’s paperwork and always reminds him to do them. Aside from that, she is very dedicated on work, she even delivers paperwork to the Führer’s residence late at night (FMAB, E37). Her dedication for work is most evident when she stood up all night while Roy was in a meeting in Central HQ (FMAB, E25). Other than that, she is obedient, she never fails to comply any order as long as it is within her morale. Even on the verge of death, she told the gold-toothed doctor she won’t die since she is “under strict orders not to die.” (FMAB, E58)
stubborn and uptight - in line with the previous trait, most Virgos are stubborn and uptight. Once they set their mind on a plan, they want it followed pronto! Roy even comments that Riza is stubborn (FMAB, E24) when she insists she will wait until Roy’s meeting is finished. Because of this, Riza may appear uptight. She bosses around Team Mustang, basically. For this reason, co-workers regard her as Roy’s babysitter (FMAB, E17). She tends to follow an everyday routine, as seen on how she and Black Hayate spends their mornings (FMA 03, E37).
reserved and untrusting - for some reason, we see Riza as reserved. I can’t pinpoint an exact moment where she’s shy, but I guess we assume she is because she rarely speaks. Riza isn’t an open book, and Virgos tend to have trouble trusting other people. This is evident since Riza holds the secrets of Flame Alchemy on her back. As an independent person, she may find it hard to rely on someone. It might have been hard for Riza to choose to trust Roy, and doing so might have caused a whole lot of consideration. That is, until she finally asks Roy, “Can I entrust you my father’s research?” Well, we see how much trust she gives to him since we never once saw her complain about anything— except with Roy.
honest - Riza is known to have a dry humor, and she never holds back on any comment she has. It’s seen on how she makes jokes with Rebecca Catalina (FMAB, E46). She’s blunt with her words— even calling Roy, her superior, an idiot or is useless (FMA 03 E15; FMAB E01, E05, E19, E53). She even asks Fuhrer Bradley a personal question, “Is that even called a family?” (FMAB, E42). Riza also declined Pride’s offer to join their forces, even in the face of threat (FMAB, E37).
patient and observant - aside from dealing with Team Mustang on a daily basis, her patience is very apparent on her character. In order to take a shot, she waits for the perfect timing. She’s also very observant, especially on the things Roy fail to communicate verbally. Whenever they visited Hughes’ grave, it was shown that Riza can sense Roy’s grief, and knows something is up (FMAB E10, E50)
intelligent - other than all the aforementioned reasons, we see Riza’s intelligence as she was able to count and remember the steps from Laboratory 5 to the door. And they figured out it was between the Fuhrer’s residence and Central HQ. (FMAB, E21). A more iconic scene was when she was able to figure out who Pride is (FMAB, E37).
kind - We see Riza as empathetic, especially to the young. She is in good terms with Winry (FMAB, E02; FMA Star of Milos) and Ed and Al (FMAB, E30). We see her voluntarily adopt Black Hayate (FMA 03, E13). Roy even admits it, “She may appear like that, but the Lieutenant is really kind.” (FMA manga, somewhere sksjskdjsks idk what volume)
Roy and Riza Compatibility
(based on their signs)
Both of them are polar opposites, like Roy is outgoing and Riza is shy. These might create conflict or it might also complement their flaws. Roy’s spontaneity helps with Riza’s rigidity. Just as Riza helps him stay on track with his work, Roy lets her lossen up a bit (FMAB E17-E19, where Riza is disguised as Elizabeth).
Riza’s critical untrusting judgement and Roy’s two-facedness may create conflict between them. Plus, Roy being easily bored might not work well with what Riza wants, which is routine and constancy. There might also be a problem with Roy’s flirtiness, which might ignite Riza’s doubtfulness.
Fortunately, they have both lessened these problems since they have laid their relationship on trust. Riza has entrused her back to Roy, along with the secrets of Flame Alchemy. Roy, on the other hand, has also entrusted his back to her (and his life, as she is free to take it if he will stray away from the right path). We see this on FMAB E54, when Riza stopped Roy from being consumed by revenge. In that scene, we also saw how Roy’s impulsiveness was balanced out by Riza’s strict compliance to rules and routine.
Aside from their differences, they also share many similarities. With their high emotional and intellectual compatibility, they entertain themselves in witty banters (well we often observe that). They share the same realistic attitude, and goals towards life (creating a better world even through a muddy path, FMAB E30).
They also share a negative trait of not being able to express their feelings easily. They may have trouble putting their feelings into words. Good thing they both learned to communicate nonverbally— and this is seen on another iconic moment when Riza’s glance saved them both from threat (FMAB, E54). After all, they’ve “known each other for quite some time.”
Again, this is all for fun! It’s fun to read horoscopes and get writing prompts from there wahaha here are some of my references: Gemini, Virgo, Gemini and Virgo compatibility
I’ll be making a proper character analysis soon right on my fma analysis blog @fullmetalanalyst !

hey! it's been a while :) I've recently been binging on Med again and I noticed that they've given at least two specific dates for events. When S1 starts we know that Nat's husband is already deceased, and that she is still pregnant. In E17, we see his grave and that he died in Feb 2015. She gives birth in E06. This means that Owen has to have been born in late 2015 at the latest, depending on how far along Nat was when Jeff died. Rangers' rotations tend to be only 3-6 months (1/2)
[cont’d]
(2/2) but very frequent and they have far less time stateside between deployments. Using this as a baseline, Jeff would have deployed to Afghanistan between Aug-Nov 2014, which has to have been around the time Nat became pregnant. If we go with a median of Sept-Oct, that means that Owen was born between Jun-Jul 2015.
We're also given another definitive date in S2 E02 with Ethan, when he writes down the casualty of the day and lists her death as "August 1, 2016" and even gives the time (15:42), so we know that if S1 takes place in early 2015 (May-Jun based on Owen's birth happening so soon in the season; an argument could be made for late April I guess though) and the second episode of S2 takes place in Aug 2016, S1 covers more than a year's worth of time.
Man, I'm on a roll! in Med 03x15, when Maggie needs her EMT license, the expiry date is March 31 2018. She later states to Barry that she "missed the renewal date by two weeks." This would put the episode at between the 14th and 22st of April, 2018 :D But, in a different part of the episode, there's a patient visiting Chicago for a campus visit at Northwestern. and given the son is in the ED with them we can assume this to be a weekend? Which narrows it down to either 21st or 22nd, most likely.
(I combined all your asks so we can have all the info in one place! Hope you don’t mind!)
Wow, THAT is some research! Bravo! It makes sense that the time-lapse between season 1 and 2 is one year (and a little more). They seem to juggle between following the air dates and filling in what happened between the finales and premieres (from May to October/September/November).
And also that weird offset. Like the Med S03E15 episode: it aired on April 10, 2018, but from your wicked calculations, the story took place April 21-22, 2018. Maybe they had planned to air it the week after but had a change of plans. I know that happened a lot with PD (that Linstead roadtrip that was pushed back and ultimately never happened).
Now I’m curious to rewatch Med just to see if this will align with the other shows, as well as the temperature we see in the shots (now that I saw Fire 2x13 stuck in a snowstorm, then PD 1x03 running around in t-shirts). I’m keeping this post; pretty interesting, and PRETTY COOL!
Thanks a lot for your findings!! Stay safe out there!

Holby City S20 E17 - The Way We Were
All in all, a pretty good episode.
I enjoyed the chance to see a little more of Frieda outside the hospital, and whilst I fully support anyone’s right to present themselves to the world however they choose, I must say, she’s really quite beautiful underneath all that heavy makeup!  I kind of hope we see some more of Roman (I think we do?  I can’t remember offhand from the trailer, but not 100% sure).  I did, however, keep expecting a reveal that he’d left Frieda pregnant in their youth, and somewhere out there was their child, being raised by some member of her family, or something!  I’m also really enjoying the developing relationship between Frieda and Nicky - Frieda really does seem to be mothering her at the moment, as much as mentoring her.
I did rather feel for Sacha, with Hanssen starting on Keller.  I can imagine how hard it is to go from treating someone with the deference owed to them as your boss, to ‘managing’ them as a member of your team.  But by god, did Sacha make a classic pigs ear of it!  I’m glad it all got ironed out in the end - the only part of it which really grated on me was when Sacha asked Xavier how he thought Hanssen was doing.  As if Xavier had the insight to have a clue!
I also found the crowdfunding page painful, poor Sacha.  Until his, ahem, mysterious anonymous donor!!
Finally, Dom’s story.  I thought I’d successfully purged myself of my hatred of Isaac, but lo!  It is back with full force!  I did find it rather glaringly apparent that the patient was fully aware who Dom was - because why else keep reading excerpts, and show his picture and all; and actually, I think Dom did amazingly well through it all.  BUT, despite Dom’s internet research suggesting that Isaac had completed his anger management and was a changed person (where Dom was the same), how could he think that Isaac had changed, and was anything less than the manipulative, devious, evil bastard that he is, having seen the evidence that Isaac had basically stolen Dom’s life story to pass it off as his own sob story?  Surely the evidence proves that he’s still exactly the same?!   Sacha’s pep talk (whilst constrained by the show’s running time), was also a bit of a bust - a quote from the Tanakh, and a sending off to do something good?!
One thing that did occur - when Dom was sitting out on the step, clearly outside, and we saw a female character come and sit beside him - in this case Donna, what a missed opportunity for a re-jigged gays-on-the-roof scene, with Dom and Serena in place of Dom and Bernie!  Missed a trick, there, Holby!
(Another random aside, is it me, or is Serena looking more attractive every week?!!!  Loved her in that scene where she was talking to Dom about the Hep C)
Finally, Dom and Lofty.  It was sweet, right?!  I like that Dom has got himself a good ‘un, and I really want to be 100% behind them (and in theory, I am), but I still have that pesky lack-of-chemistry problem...

okay so, it’s no secret that i’m a sam nicholls stan and have been since the start and i’m super excited for her to return!!! and i know a lot of people on here dislike what she did to dylan (or don’t know enough about it), but recently a lot of y'all have been asking me about them and which eps i’d recommend in order to understand their storyline/relationship a bit more
soooo here’s a thread i made of my fave eps from s26 (i’ll add to it once i get further on my rewatch, but the majority of their storyline is covered here) - some of them are more focused on sam than dylan, but all of them are important in order to understand sam’s character and also their development. i tried to summarise the eps to make it easier so there are some spoilers ahead!!!! i hope this helps :) I think all of the eps are on YouTube btw!!
(also, if anyone has any more questions or wants to chat about sam/dylan then feel free to message me whenever, i have a lot of feelings on the matter as you can imagine)
sam/dylan-centric eps in s26:
S26 E9 - Mea Culpa Sam’s first day at Holby (in my admittedly biased opinion one of the best first eps ever, only she could get into three near-death situations on her first shift)
S26 E10 - Sanctuary Sam and Dylan come face-to-face for the first time, hilarity and awkwardness ensues
S26 E13 - No Goodbyes Sam tries to help a struggling teenage mother, with Dylan’s help
S26 E14 - The Ties That Bind Sam and Dylan treat a suspected blast victim
S26 E16 - Next Of Kin: Part 2 Zoe and Dylan get trapped in the ED fire, the truth comes out about Sam and Dylan’s relationship
S26 E17 - Duty Of Care Sam throws herself into work to spite Dylan and gets caught up in a gas explosion, then acts in self-defence when a patient’s relative (Keith Parr) tries to assault Dylan (also lots of Dylan pretending not to care and failing miserably)
S26 E18 - Death and Doughnuts Sam and Dylan try to save her patient/colleague from the explosion and fulfil his last wish (also some of the best Sam/Dylan moments imo)
S26 E22 - Confidences Sam throws herself into a sexual abuse case after finding out about Keith Parr’s assault allegations
S26 E24 - Grand Canyon Sam clashes with Jordan over the allegations, gets involved in a case with a troubled teenager and overbearing parents
S26 E27 - Ricochet: What Goes Around Comes Around lots of Sam/Dylan and dogs, Dylan defending Sam against Zoe
S26 E28 - Lest Ye Be Judged Sam throws herself into helping an old soldier to distract herself from the GMC interview (helps to understand more about why Sam is the way she is)
S26 E30 - When The Gloves Come Off Sam and Dylan get trapped in a cave trying to rescue two patients (hands-down my favourite ep, reveals a lot about their past/relationship!! also has the most glorious crossover montage of Sam and Dylan that still makes me weep, some of their most heartfelt scenes, and a final scene that breaks my heart (I could literally go on about this ep for hours, everyone should see it))
S26 E32 - Desperate Remedies Sam prepares for the GMC hearing and treats a teenage drug addict
S26 E33 - Appropriate Force Sam’s GMC hearing, lots of revelations about her past/experiences in the army which are too good to spoil here, Dylan finding out some of her secrets and supporting her (probably Sam’s most significant ep, if you don’t understand her more and want to protect her after watching this then sorry but you’re wrong)
S26 E34 - Happily Ever After Dylan thinks Sam wants to talk about getting back together but she serves him with divorce papers ( it all goes downhill from here)
S26 E35 - Home Truths Sam and Dylan try to work together on a case, Sam decides to go back to Afghanistan
S26 E39 - Zero Sum Game Sam treats a fellow soldier on her first day of training and is turned down by the army
S26 E40 - Do The Right Thing Sam tells Dylan the truth about the army and why she moved to Holby, Dylan signs the divorce papers

The Influence of stigmatization and lack of education in the healthcare setting among older adults with mental health issues
Stigmatization:Treatment in the Healthcare setting
In my previous posts, I had stated that the stigmatization of aging and mental health influences the quality of care that older adults with normal and abnormal mental health issues receive. The Mental Health Commission of Canada (2014) found that older adults seeking mental health help from healthcare professionals experience both age related and mental health related stigmatization and discrimination. This is because stigmatization leads to the conscious and unconscious development of negative attitudes among healthcare professionals towards older adults with mental illness (World Health Organization and World Psychiatric Association, 2002) . This is primarily due to lack of awareness, education and training among health professionals  (World Health Organization (WHO) and World Psychiatric Association (WPA), 2002). This is a great concern as the negative attitudes towards older adults and mental illness leads to discrimination against older individuals who suffer from a mental illness, their families and caregivers in multiple settings (e.g. health and social care, community, media, and policy) (WHO & WPA, 2002). In fact, studies have shown that people who experience mental health issues feel that they are devalued, dismissed, and dehumanized by many healthcare professionals (Knaak, Mantler, & Szeto, 2017).  They are excluded from their own healthcare decisions or are subtly coerced to receive certain treatments (Knaak, Mantler, & Szeto, 2017). They are also given little information about their own condition and the treatment options available, and in many situations they are treated in a paternalistic or demeaning way (Knaak, Mantler, & Szeto, 2017). Furthermore, some mental health patients reported being told that they would never get better and were consistently spoken to through the use of stigmatizing language (Knaak, Mantler, & Szeto, 2017). In many cases, healthcare professionals “see the illness ahead of the person” (Knaak, Mantler, & Szeto, 2017, Pg. 112). This leads to poor quality of care and marginalization within the care system (WHO & WPA, 2002). It leads individuals with mental health issues to delay seeking help, discontinue treatment, and puts their safety, and physical and mental health at risk (Knaak, Mantler, & Szeto, 2017). It also leads to the exclusion of older adults suffering from mental illness from our society, increases institutionalizations, leads to higher mortality rates, and leads to inadequate funding of programs and services on the municipal, provincial, and federal levels (U.S. Department of Health, 2005; WHO & WPA, 2002).
Mental and Physical Comorbidities among Older Adults
I also want to emphasize that proper education and training is important to providing care for both mental and physical health problems that occur among older adults. It is evident that older adults experience mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, phobias, and addiction (Segal, Qualls, & Smyer, 2018). However, a challenge when it comes to the treatment of older adults is the fact that older adults experience comorbidities of medical illnesses (Segal, Qualls, & Smyer, 2018). Older adults with mental illness tend to also suffer from physical health problems (Segal, Qualls, & Smyer, 2018). According to the Mental Health Commission Canada “co-morbidities make accurate diagnosis of mental illnesses much more challenging: untangling symptoms of physical illnesses from somatic presentations of mental illnesses such as depression can be difficult and, without proper training and attention, treatable illnesses can, and do, go unnoticed by healthcare providers” (Mental Health Commission of Canada; 2010, Pg. 15). A study by Holm, Lyberg, & Severinsson (2014) showed that the physical health problems of older adults diagnosed with depression were overlooked and perceived as not real by healthcare providers (Holm, Lyberg, & Severinsson, 2014). There physical health problems were overlooked as healthcare providers assumed that their physical problems were due to depression (Holm, Lyberg, & Severinsson, 2014). A participant of the study stated:
“Because I suffer from major depression, my GP did not believe when I developed a prolapse, despite the X-ray examination revealing a prolapse in my neck. He gave me medicine for depression” (Holm, Lyberg, & Severinsson, 2014, Pg. 4)
In addition, participants in the study stated that they were afraid to mention mental disorders such as depression as they thought healthcare professionals would ignore their physical problems and attribute such issues as symptoms of depression.  Furthermore, Michael Pietrus a director of an anti-stigma initiative tells a story of how physicians failed to investigate and treat a patient’s experiencing pain symptoms due to the fact that he had a history of mental illness. He states:
“Eventually, they got him into x-ray and actually found out that he had gallstones, and that’s what was causing the pain.”(Pellegrini, 2014,Pg. E14)
Such examples show how stigmatization of mental illness which leads to discrimination and marginalization in the healthcare setting can lead to the mistreatment of individuals with mental health issues and act as barriers that prevents individuals with mental health issues to seek out and recieve treatment of any type. This also highlights the importance of education in regards to not only distinguishing ‘normal’ and ‘abnormal’ aging, but by also being aware that older adults may experience mental illness differently and may have comorbidities that are important to take into consideration when providing care to ensure their well-being.

LUCY AND ANN-MARGRET
S2;E20 ~ February 2, 1970
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Directed by Herbert Kenwith ~ Choreography by Jack Baker ~ Written by Milt Josefsberg and Ray Singer
Synopsis
A chance meeting with Ann-Margret leads to songwriter Craig performing with her on television.
Regular Cast
Lucille Ball (Lucy Carter), Lucie Arnaz (Kim Carter), Desi Arnaz Jr. (Craig Carter), Gale Gordon (Harrison Otis Carter)
Guest Cast
Tumblr media
Ann-Margret (Herself) is one of Hollywood's most enduring sex symbols, singers, and actors. She made her screen debut in 1961's A Pocketful of Miracles and followed up with the critically acclaimed film musicals State Fair and Bye Bye Birdie. After this episode of “Here's Lucy” she was nominated for Oscars for Carnal Knowledge (1971) and Tommy (1975). In February 1969, she appeared on “The Jack Benny Birthday Special”, which also featured Lucille Ball, although the two did not share  screen time. At the end of 1969, Lucille Ball guested on her special “From Hollywood With Love.”  In 2010, Ann-Margret won her first Emmy Award for her guest appearance on “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.”
Tumblr media
John O'Neill (Walter, Ann-Margret's Pianist)
Although billed as ‘Walter’ in the final credits, Ann-Margret calls him ‘Wally’ in the dialogue.
Gary Morton (Voice Introducing Ann-Margret) was a comedian who worked the famed ‘Borscht Belt’ in the Catskills Mountains. He met Lucille Ball shortly after her divorce from Desi Arnaz and they married in November 1961. At her request, Morton gave up his nightclub career and became a producer of “The Lucy Show.” Morton also served as a warm-up comic for the show’s studio audience. He played the Emcee in “Lucy and the Andrews Sisters” (S2;E6) and will make two more on-camera appearances on “Here’s Lucy.” Morton passed away in 1999.
Throughout the episode, Morton’s loud guffaw can be heard on the soundtrack.
Ann-Margret's back-up dancers (3 men and 3 women) perform uncredited.

The much anticipated episode was the subject of a TV Guide "Close Up”. It mentions that the singer was repaying Ball for appearing on her earlier special...
Tumblr media
“Ann-Margret: From Hollywood With Love” in December 1969. In it, Ball played herself and an autograph hound named ‘Celebrity Lu’ (above).
Tumblr media
The date this episode first aired (February 2, 1970) the 27th Annual Golden Globe Awards was held. Lucille Ball was nominated for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy Series, but lost to a tie between Carol Burnett and Julie Sommars in “The Governor and J.J.” John Wayne also won for True Grit. Both Burnett and Wayne were guest stars of Lucille Ball’s on her sitcoms. Joan Crawford (who guest-starred on “The Lucy Show”) received a life-time achievement award.
Tumblr media
Two days later, on February 4, 1970, Lucie and Desi Jr. appeared with their father on NBC’s “Kraft Music Hall”. Vivian Vance and Bernadette Peters were also part of the cast. Desi Sr. performed "Babalu" and "Cuban Pete" and teamed with his children on "The Straw Hat Song”.  Lucille Ball does not appear.
Tumblr media
In the DVD introduction to the episode, Desi Arnaz Jr. says that he had a crush on Ann-Margret since he was ten years old.  At the beginning of the episode, Kim says her brother is “barely seventeen.”  This was true for Desi Jr. when the show was being filmed, but he celebrated his 17th birthday two weeks before the show first aired.
Tumblr media
Lucy Carter describes her aspirations for her children:
KIM: “Mom wants me to be a wife and a mother.” LUCY: “Yes. And in that order.”
Lucy wants Craig to be a doctor, while he wants to be a songwriter.
LUCY: “We’ll compromise. You’ll be the only songwriter in the world to make house calls.”
In the early part of the 20th century, physicians often visited the home to treat patients, a practice that is virtually unheard of in most parts of the country today.
Tumblr media
The ad soliciting new songs Craig finds in the newspaper gives an address of 718 North Gower. In reality, this is the address of Paramount Studios (formerly Desilu) where the show was filmed.
Tumblr media
Lucy hopes Craig becomes as famous as Simon & Carbunkle. Kim corrects her: Simon & Garfunkle. In 1970 Paul Simon and Art Garfunkle released the album “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” Lucy later says Craig sings as well as Engelbert Pumpernickle. Craig corrects her: Engelbert Humperdinck. In a previous episode, Lucy pronounced the English pop singer's name “Englebert Dumperhinck.” Lucy is turning into a regular Mrs. Malaprop!
Tumblr media
Craig calls himself “this generation's Cole Porter.”  Cole Porter (1891-1964) was a songwriter who wrote both lyrics and music. He was responsible for the score of DuBarry Was A Lady, a Broadway musical that was filmed in 1943 with Lucille Ball. The show included the Cole Porter song “Friendship,” which Lucy Ricardo later sang with Ethel Mertz in “Lucy and Ethel Buy the Same Dress” (ILL S3;E3, above).
When Craig needs $100 for his song to be published, he wants to ask his Uncle Harry.
Tumblr media
LUCY: “Uncle Harry wouldn't have given Francis Scott Key $100 for 'The Star Spangled Banner.'”
“The Star Spangled Banner” is the national anthem of the United States. On September 14, 1814, Francis Scott Key (1779-1843) wrote a poem which was eventually set to music by John Stafford Smith. It was adopted as the anthem in 1931.
Tumblr media
Wally, Ann-Margret’s arranger, suggest she sing Craig’s song as a duet - perhaps with Frank Sinatra or Dean Martin. Frank Sinatra’s hit single from 1969 called “My Way” re-entered the charts in 1970, spending nearly a hundred weeks in the top forty. In 1970 singer Dean Martin, who was one of Lucille Ball’s favorite performers, was still producing new episodes of “The Dean Martin Show” (above) as well as starring in the feature film Airport.
Tumblr media
On her coffee table is a copy of the December 1966 issue of House & Garden Magazine. Ann-Margret obviously doesn’t have much time for reading!
Tumblr media
Lucy Carter seems to have no qualms about leaving her 16 year-old son alone in the apartment of a 28 year-old woman known to the world as a ‘the original sex kitten’!  Offstage, however, Lucille Ball was not quite as understanding when Desi Jr. took up with 23 year-old divorcee Patti Duke, whose onscreen reputation was considerably more wholesome. In tabloid press, Lucille Ball was quoted as saying “Leave My Son Alone...He’s Only 17″ and “Patti Duke Used My Son and Victimized Us”.
Tumblr media
When Ann-Margret is slipping into “something more comfortable” (an age old film and TV trope intimating seduction), Craig practices his dancing alone to the strains of “I'm in the Mood for Love” written by Jimmy McHugh in 1935. Ann-Margret covered the song in 1962 on her album “On the Way Up.” While Ann-Margret’s version of the song was on RCA Records and had lyrics, the LP Craig selects has the Capital Records label (the rainbow ring) and is instrumental only. Coincidentally, Guy Lombardo included the song on his 1958 release on Capitol Records, although the version heard is not that cover.
Tumblr media
While Ann-Margret is off changing, Craig has three wordless minutes on screen alone to imagine his evening with the noted sex symbol. Here, Desi Jr. does some very funny and charming silent acting depicting the nerves of a first romantic encounter. Until she breaks the spell by appearing in a chenille robe, fuzzy slippers, and curlers!
Tumblr media
Craig and Ann-Margret perform the song "Country Magic" which in reality was not by Craig or Desi Arnaz Jr. but by Steve March, the son of Mel Torme and adopted son of Arnaz family friend, Hal March.
Tumblr media
Steve March appeared onscreen as one of Craig's high school friends in “Lucy and the Bogie Affair” (S2;E13) and will appear in a future episode guest starring Sammy Davis Jr. When Craig referred to his friend Steve in past episodes, this is likely who he has in mind.
Tumblr media
The pink paisley Fender telecaster guitar Craig plays during his number with Ann-Margret belonged to Jimmy Burton (below), Elvis Presley's number one guitar player.
Tumblr media
Burton actually played the guitar solo on the soundtrack.
Tumblr media
Unusually, after leaving Craig with Ann-Margret, the Lucy character is not seen again until the final fade-out. Lucille Ball is off-screen for 10 minutes of her own 24-minute show!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In December 1968, just as “Here’s Lucy” was starting, Lucille Ball and Ann-Margret shared the cover of Coronet Magazine. Lucy wrote about her teenagers while Ann-Margret modeled see-through fashions.
Tumblr media
Lucy Carter wants Craig to be a doctor, not a musician. On “I Love Lucy” Lucy Ricardo wanted Little Ricky (Keith Thibodeaux, above) to be a doctor, not a musician!
Tumblr media
When Ann-Margret changes into “something more comfortable” she comes out wearing the same blue chenille bathrobe that Lucy wore in “Lucy and Tennessee Ernie's Fun Farm” (S1;E23, left). It looks very similar to the one that Vivian Vance wore in 1952’s “Breaking the Lease” (ILL S1;E18, center) and other episodes. It is likely that it is the same robe from the Desilu wardrobe racks!
FAST FORWARD!
Tumblr media
A year later, Ann-Margret is mentioned as one of the wishes Craig would ask of a magic lamp in “Lucy and Aladdin’s Lamp” (S3;E21). Craig must have forgotten this lengthy encounter when he mentioned his wish.
Tumblr media
Both Lucille Ball and Ann-Margret were on hand for “America’s Tribute to Bob Hope” on January 2, 1988.
Tumblr media
In 2000, Lucie Arnaz and Steve March-Torme (author of “Country Magic”), both children of megastars, did a cabaret act together. This was March’s cabaret debut. As of this writing, two decades later, they are both still performing in cabaret - just not together.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Memory Lapse! Lucy tells Ann-Margret that the last time Craig sang in public it was “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.” Actually, Craig sang in his school musical in “Lucy and Carol Burnett” (S1;E17, above), in “Lucy and Tennessee Ernie's Fun Farm” (S1;E23), as Bing Crosby in “Lucy and the Andrews Sisters” (S2;E6), and in “Lucy and the Generation Gap” (S2;E12) – all in front of audiences!
Tumblr media
Hey Lady! At the end of “Country Magic,” Lucy bursts from the wings and shouts to the studio audience “My son the songwriter!”  If this was one of Ann-Margret’s television specials (as was earlier mentioned), a random mother bragging about her son is not something you’d expect to see!
Tumblr media
Can I Have a Drum Roll... Please? Oddly, there is absolutely no mention of Craig’s former musical obsession - the drums! A skilled percussionist in real life, there were many episodes in which played drums and even a couple that revolved around it.
Tumblr media
This episode is a terrific showcase for Desi Arnaz Jr. He does his best with the comedy, but really shines in the musical number, where his dancing is as his sharp as his musicianship. Ann-Margret seems to be enjoying herself and the episode is fun to watch, although not particularly funny.
