No, I Haven't Seen It Until Now: 'The Incredible Shrinking Man'
“The Incredible Shrinking Man” comes from a genre I feel I know a lot about but have actually not seen many movies from: 1950’s science fiction. I went into it thinking it would look horribly dated and laughable for all the wrong reasons. What I instead discovered was a film which actually holds up very well after half a century with its terrific special effects and strong performances. It also…

Pride and Prejudice
Classic and loose adaptions from 1940, 1967, 1980, 1995, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2012, 2016, 2018, 2019
The second of Jane Austen’s novels, first published in 1813, is the most often adapted, inspiring various different takes on it. The ones pictures above are detailed below:
Pride and Prejudice (1940 Film)
This black and white film departs from the original novel in some (or should I say many?) points
Written by Aldous Huxley and Jane Murfin, adapted from the stage adaptation by Helen Jerome; directed by Robert Z. Leonard
Starring Greer Garson as Elizabeth Bennet, Laurence Olivier as Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy, Edward Ashley Cooper as George Wickham, Maureen O'Sullivan as Jane Bennet, Bruce Lester as Mr. Charles Bingley, Ann Rutherford as Lydia Bennet, Melville Cooper as Mr. William Collins, among others.

Starring Ashley Clements as Elizabeth Bennet, Daniel Vincent Gordh as William Darcy, Wes Aderhold as George Wickham, Laura Spencer as Jane Bennet, Christopher Sean as Bing Lee, Mary Kate Wiles as Lydia Bennet, Julia Cho as Charlotte Lu, Maxwell Glick as Ricky Collins, among others.
Lizzie’s videos amount to 100 episodes + 10 Q&A, but shorter series enrich the story by offering other characters’ perspectives, most notably Lydia’s (and also Georgiana’s). A playlist at Pemberley Digital’s Youtube channel features them all in order.
The series has also been adapted into a book, The Secret Diary of Lizzie Bennet (2014), and spawned a sequel novel, The Epic Adventures of Lydia Bennet (2015).
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016 Film)

The story takes inspiration from all 6 of Austen’s major novels (plus Lady Susan), but mostly from Pride and Prejudice. Others stars include Chandelly Braz as Mariana Benedito (Marianne Dashwood) and Anajú Dorigon as Cecília Benedito (Catherine Morland).
Features 100 episodes in the International cut. The telenovela has been broadcast in other countries and languages (such as Spanish) but as far as I know, not in English.
Pride and Prejudice: Atlanta (2019 TV Film)
Loose adaption set in modern Atlanta, USA. All-black cast. Written by Tracy McMillan, directed by Rhonda Baraka
Starring Tiffany Hines as Elizabeth Bennet, Juan Antonio as Will Darcy, Raney Branch as Jane Bennet, Brad James as Charles Bingley, Reginae Carter as Lydia Bennet, Carl Anthony Payne as Rev. Collins, among others.
*****
Personal favorites: 2005, then 1995. But also: The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, Orgulho e Paixão
I also enjoyed Atlanta and, while it’s been a while since I’ve seen Bride and Prejudice, it’s got Indian musical numbers so c’mon, one gotta watch it.
Back to the closer adaptions, despite its age, 1980 is also good! 1940 is...very different, but fun in its own way.
In fact, while I find some of these versions weaker, I could find enjoyment in all of them - but maybe that’s cause I’m a sucker for P&P.

India lost two WTC points due to a slow over-rate in the first Test against South Africa
The sanction was imposed by match referee Chris Broad when it was determined that India fell two overs short of the target, accounting for time allowances.
Tumblr media
In response to India’s poor over-rate against South Africa in the opening Test on Friday in Centurion, the country was docked two ICC World Test Championship points and fined 10% of their match fee.
India was declared to be two overs short of the target when time allowances were taken into account, and match referee Chris Broad delivered the punishment.
Article 16.11.2 of the ICC WTC playing regulations also penalizes a side one point for each short over. As a result, India’s total points have been reduced by two championship points.
There was no need for a formal hearing because India skipper Rohit Sharma accepted the suggested punishment after entering a guilty plea.
The accusation was made by fourth umpire Stephen Harris, third umpire Ahsan Raza, and on-field umpires Paul Reiffel and Langton Rusere.

paul x adelle: cowboy au?
He rides into town with that ridiculous poster, a pitiful likeness of her scrawled across the front.
"You're wanted, dead or alive," it he says, and she cannot help but laugh.
"Aren't you quite the flatterer?" She smiles at him, gestures to the seat across from her. "But I'll not be going anywhere with you. So tell me: what, precisely, is your plan? Are you going to shoot me? I'm unarmed, you know."
"Doesn't make you any less dangerous."
"Brave bounty hunter shoots unarmed woman outside of her own home... Not the best of headlines, is it?"
The set to his jaw, the slight twitch, tells her she's getting under his skin. Good; that will make him reckless. Vulnerable. (Unpredictable, too, but Langton is keeping watch from across the room. She, irritatingly, has the faintest flicker of longing, an absence that can never be filled; Laurence is long gone, and entirely by her choice. She pushes the emotions down fiercely.) "Don't act innocent; you know what you did."
"Do I?" She smiles. "Enlighten me."
"Where should we start? The robberies?"
"A lady has to make a living."
"The kidnapping?"
"Topher isn't a child, and I only borrowed him. He's safely home now."
"And what about the murders?"
Oh, these ridiculous men. If they can't get their way, they'll make up a story. "I've never killed anyone, Mr. Ballard, though as with most things, that's subject to change. Now I suggest you leave my town before-"
"Don't lie to me."
There's anger in his eyes-real anger, she realizes belatedly. This isn't some money-making venture; this is personal. A vendetta. Which means there's something she doesn't know (and isn't that a terrible feeling?). "I've never claimed to be a saint," she tells him, keeping her voice soft and even. "But I've never once killed anyone, and I've never had anyone killed if they weren't actively trying to kill me."
He stares at her, as if trying to pick apart a lie, but the truth must show on her face, because after a moment, he deflates.
"That's not possible," he says, but it's more to himself than to her; he must believe her. "All of those bodies... Every time you leave a town, people die. Awful, awful deaths."
She's about to insist it's unconnected when a face flickers through her mind. It's been the better part of ten years since she's laid eyes on him, and she cannot imagine that anyone would be so angry for so long-but he is not just anyone, is he? And he blames her for a great deal. But if he's following her-if he's coming after people left in her wake-
Topher. It's a warm summer day, but suddenly she's cold to her bones, and she knows beyond a shadow of a doubt what's happened.
"He calls himself Alpha." She's on her feet and running toward the door in a heartbeat, praying without a thought to what Ballard might do to her. "And I need your help to stop him."

Next district - Canterbury 30/01/2023
Happy New Year!
Things are starting to come together now.
Although my apprenticeship as Project Assistant will be coming to an end soon, there’s exciting things happening.
Now that Thanet’s song is ticked off the list, it’s Canterbury next.
For this one the song will be recorded by lots of different young people from different areas such as Simon Langton school, Bemix, Picksicks Youth Centre and a few from the Canterbury Drama groups.
Tumblr media
Image: Everybody split into group gathering ideas for the song about Canterbury
Instead of me hovering around the room taking multiple photos, one of the ambassadors took photos.
When we split into groups, I had my own group which helped me make myself a good facilitator. We came up with lots of ideas such as Whitstable’s oysters, the romans, pilgrims, Wildwood trust and Blean Woods.
My group went into further detail about Blean woods with the Bison arriving to boost biodiversity. Paul really liked that idea and appreciated all the great stuff we came up with on our spider diagrams.
I even got to hear the demo of the song which will be recorded on Saturday.
