you’d thought, genuinely, that your break up would mean the plunge of your stomach everytime he was sent on a quest to save the world would stop. the nauseating fear that came with seeing him bloody (why was he always bloody?) would pass now.

it did not.

it seemed that the end of your relationship was not the end of your feelings. the harder you thought, the more scared you were. had it been a mistake?

you’d been tired of the demigod lifestyle for a long time, but that was only worsened by dating percy jackson, who never seemed to be around for very long. you could never be frustrated by his commitment to his moral responsibilities, but you were growing weary of the constant paranoia.

the arguing that had ensued led to this. all you wanted was for him to understand your concern. all he wanted was to forget about it and sleep. it was probably the wrong time for you to bring it up, when he was so exhausted, but his reaction had been volatile even so.

ultimately, you handed him to scissors, and he cut the tie.

but for all your wallowing, you failed to notice his.

“you know he misses you.” mitchell, son of aphrodite, commented lightly as he took a seat next to you. a lot of the aphrodite kids had become concerned with you recently, feeling the loss radiating off both of you at what for them was probably an unbearable level.

“maybe.” you mumbled, scraping some of your meal into the fire and dedicating it to your godly parent, though for a moment you wondered if you’d better offer it to mitchell’s mother.

across the fire, you caught percy’s eyes, staring directly at you. he didn’t look away, holding your stare through the flames before abruptly standing and heading away from the crowd. like muscle memory, you followed him.

“is piper right?” he questioned instantly, seeming to forget you were not privy to his iris calls with the girl.

you raised a brow, “um... depends what she said?”

he huffed, tousling his already messy hair, a habit of his you’d forgotten you adored, “she said that the reason we broke up was not enough to...”

you prompted him gently, “not enough to what?”

“to just... not love each other. and she said it was a rash decision.”

your heart screamed in agreement, but you kept your words carefully measured, “well... what do you think?”

he seemed torn, “i think she’s right. and i think i want to go to college with you, and stop being dragged into every odd quest.”

“i’d love that.” you answered, possibly too quickly, but he didn’t seem to care.

“yeah?”

“yeah.”

he kissed you with such force you didn’t have time to realise you’d almost forgotten what it felt like, securing your arms around his neck so you didn’t fall backwards and reciprocation with the vigor that came from such time apart.
