I know we all have a lot of wishes for the next Dragon Age game. I do too, of course.

But the one thing that would absolutely kill me, would be, if (when Dorian actually turns out to be an advisor in the next game) your new character would somehow get the chance to flirt with him. Doesn't even matter if they're male or female because he probably won't be a romance option anyway.

And he'd just politely reject them, as a solem smile sneaks itself upon his face and his hand wanders to the glowing crystal sitting right on his chest, while he tells them that, even though he's flattered, he already has someone very dear to him, who's eagerly awaiting their next reunion.

This would be the kind of stuff that would instantly kill me and I'd be okay with it.

Dorian stood against the wall in the throne room, scowling over the heads of nobles trying to get the Inquisitor’s attention. He was particularly focused on a woman who seemed far too eager to get him alone, glaring as she dragged a finger down his chest, making the poor man blush and stammer nervously. Dorian clenched his fist as he prepared a small spell to set the woman’s unfortunate dress ablaze when he found Vivienne had beaten him to the punch. The girl excused herself gracefully, shuffling away as she batted at her skirt. Dorian continued to scowl as yet another group of nobles crowded the Inquisitor. He watched with masked anxiety, feeling agitation build while these self-entitled people schmoozed and bargained with the Inquisitor, knowing the man could hold his own, but he had this naivete about him and...well, Dorian worried.

As he watched the group of nobles move along, the Inquisitor caught his eye and flashed him a smile. Dorian huffed and shook his head, refusing to acknowledge the fact the corners of his mouth were pulling into a smile, just a hint of that scary Tevinter mage mask melting away at the sight of his amatus’s smile.

After Corypheus has been defeated, Dorian eventually goes back to Tevinter. What about his and the Inquisitor’s reunion when he returns to Skyhold for a visit?

Dorian is probably restless the entire way back, but he is very good at pushing everything out and focusing on the moment and what needs to be done, keeping busy so he doesn’t have to think about how much it hurts to miss them. He hadn’t realized how heavy carrying around all that pain and longing had become until the moment he sees the Inquisitor and it all turns to pure joy and suddenly he feels so incredibly light and almost giddy with it all.

Holding the Inquisitor, as well as being held in turn, is somehow so much better than he remembered and he never wants this to stop regardless of whoever might be around to see them. He isn’t sure he’s truly been warm since leaving the Inquisitor’s side, even when in burning Tevinter. Now he does, though. Now he feels warm and safe and content with the relief and affection the Inquisitor matches him in fervor and Dorian might laugh if he didn’t want to kiss them so badly instead.

There are details that you can forget or romanticize about your partner and rediscovering all of this feels a bit like getting to know the Inquisitor all over again. It’s a pleasure Dorian revels in, taking his time to indulge. Even the annoyances and bad habits feel like unearthing gold (Not that Dorian is any more lenient than usual. Appearances must be kept up after all). It’s like coming home except there’s an ache in his chest with just how agonizingly happy he is because he knows the Inquisitor feels exactly the same and considers him just as much their home.
