Career World Horse Ranch update is now live!

It’s finally here! Sorry this update is so late; a minor but time-consuming home repair emergency stopped my work on it for about a month. But now my real-life house is fixed and the update is finally out! The Career World save file, Career Challenge Chart, and the list of study abroad opportunities have all been updated to incorporate horses and all their associated gameplay. And the delay meant I got to add in the new Home Chef Hustle features, as well, so it’s not all bad.

Just because I already teased it, I’ll start with...

Expansion of the Actor Career:

In addition to all the sound-stage filming that comes automatically with the actor career, and the live stage acting I had already added in the form of the Starlight Theatre venue, there are now three on-location filming spots: one for Westerns, one for costume dramas, and one for fantasy/medieval/pirate projects. Each on-location filming site is a residential lot which permanently houses several horses and three behind-the-camera crew members: a horse wrangler/stunt rider, a stylist, and a cinematographer. When cast in certain gigs, your actor should now immediately (but temporarily) move in with one of these households, in the following configuration:

...move in with the PBP Fantasy Crew in Windenburg. All other gigs you should just do as normal; they have no corresponding on-location filming site.

Once on location, you will find an area set up to house you, marked with a star door (on the Western set, this is a trailer; on the other two, a room within the massive building), as well as living areas for the other crew members, a dressing room / wardrobe area, a video editing space with the video station and lots of drones (plus still cameras for doing promo shots), and locations for filming acting scenes. In the case of Chestnut Ridge, the acting area is on a separate lot located right next door to the living area with the trailers.

Your job while you are here is to get footage, in costume, of your sim (and potentially their co-stars or the horse wrangler acting as a stunt double) acting out scenes on location and riding on horseback through the appropriate landscapes. (Mostly. The pirate stuff may not need to be too heavy on the horseback scenes, but there are plenty of places to shoot acting scenes on the battlements of the castle overlooking the sea, which is why I rolled those gigs in with the fantasy stuff. Plus even pirates get embroiled in problems on land sometimes, and have to make a quick escape on horseback. Everything you do on an actual ship is shot during sound-stage day.) I strongly suggest also taking some still photos as promotional material and keepsakes for both the crew household and your sim.

If your actor sim has no horseback riding skill to start with and looks ridiculous on the horse, you may have to spend some time riding around and skilling up in your regular street clothes before you get all dolled up and dive into filming—unless, of course, you want to get footage of your sim getting bucked off the horse for the movie, in which case get into costume immediately and fire up the drone right away; the cinematographer will edit out all the extra footage of you looking stupid while you wait to get bucked off.

At some point during your on-location filming adventure, you will be called back to Del Sol Valley for the set sound-stage filming day. Don’t worry about this; Plumbob Pictures is a wealthy studio, and can totally afford to send a chopper to whisk you back to Del Sol Valley for a day of filming on set before dropping you right back on location. Take your time and don’t rush it; you are welcome to remain on location as long as it takes to get all the footage you want to get. A word to the wise, however: you will only be able to call your director and co-stars to the on-location filming site BEFORE sound-stage filming day, so if you want to record any two-person scenes, sword fights, or all-cast promo shots with your co-stars, you’ll need to prioritize doing that first and getting your horseback riding shots later. Lucky for you if you’re filming Tournament of Honor, jousting scenes are done in full armor that completely conceals the sim, so horse wrangler Cheyenne Blackwolf is able to act as the stunt double for your co-stars for footage where you need two sims on horseback. Jim Chooli, the horse wrangler in Chestnut Ridge, is a semi-retired actor himself who frequently plays minor characters in the Westerns when a second sim is needed there. And the entire costume drama crew is happy to pop into powdered wigs and ballgowns when extra sims are needed to flesh out a ball or dinner scene.

Because you live with them in the same household during this time, you will be able to control not only the horse wrangler as a second horse-rider when need be, but also the stylist to costume both your own actor sims and your non-controllable co-stars during on-location filming. Likewise, you can direct the cinematographer to control the drones, take photographs, and even operate the non-functional camera equipment for maximum realism. The end goal of on-location filming is to have the cinematographer take all the drone footage you’ve captured, edit it together into a single reel, maximize the quality, and “send it off to the studio”—a.k.a. upload it via the video station. If you get the notification that the footage has been nominated for an award, you may want to remain with the crew household through the following Sunday and all go to the Starlight Accolades together—you could even get some red-carpet shots! If not, that’s a wrap! You’re welcome to move back to your regular residence in Del Sol Valley while you prepare for the next audition.

Chestnut Ridge Townies:

You’ll notice that with this pack, I’ve been a lot more liberal with adding townies who didn’t originally exist than I usually am. There are two reasons for this: 1) there are so many ways to make money in this pack that I didn’t think I could reasonably cover all the new career options it enabled me to add with only the original townies, and 2) Chestnut Ridge does not spawn its own locals like Sulani and Mt. Komorebi do, so if you don’t add more townies, there aren’t really enough western-dressed, horse-riding folks to flesh out the community lots—and I’m sorry, but Bella Goth just looks really stupid doing the cowpoke dance in that tight dress. So for the new townies, I used some gallery sims (credited in the Chestnut Ridge credits post, coming next), but I also used a lot of the “play with genetics” feature to expand the families of sims who shipped with the pack. Everybody gets a brother! Ok, well, not everybody, but a lot of people got brothers. So here’s what I did with townies:

In early testing, I learned to my disappointment that Sienna Grove works like the special townies from Cottage Living, not like the ones from High School Years—which is to say that the instant you start to play her, she is immediately and permanently replaced as horse trainer with a randomly generated townie. I wanted to retain her as horse trainer in this save file, so (like with Sarah Scott before her), I immediately kicked her out to the homeless bin so people wouldn’t try to play her and lose her the job. That said, for some reason this makes her un-inviteable to places just like Roberto Crinkletop, the mysterious rancher. To counteract this somewhat, I’ve had every household in town make her a keyholder, so she’ll occasionally drop by of her own accord. And of course, you can always come to her for a visit: she is outside the equestrian center from 7am to 7pm every single day, so she’s not hard to find. And pro tip: you can always invite her for a stayover, but for some reason only from the relationships panel, not the phone. The programming on this is weird, man.

Don and Duke Gooseman are now actual champions, as per their backstory. This means that Duke has the special “Champion Horse” trait that gives his foals better qualities, so if you’re going to get into horse breeding as a moneymaking enterprise, I suggest just getting a mare and having her breed with Duke. House rule, though: your sim has to gift Don a thousand simoleons for the privilege. There is now an actual stud service in town! And Don’s been doing a little studing of his own—I’ve made him aromantic since he’s such a loner, but as a sim who loves the outdoors, he constantly gets wants to woohoo in the bushes: so he is now woohoo partners with Roberto Crinkletop, with whom he has the occasional Brokeback-Mountain-style al fresco tryst. Plus I gave him a cat. Don just seems like a cat guy to me.

The Nectar Making Duo have opened a duo of businesses: a country nectary where they live, grow ingredients, and craft and age their nectars, and a small shop in town where they sell them. They’re in a fair amount of debt (used the university student loan system for this), so you can have fun digging them out and making the businesses profitable! They have three main ways to make money: holding ranch gatherings at the nectary (which are basically tasting events to bring in new clientele), using the sales table at the nectary to sell bottles direct-from-the-source, and manning the retail store in town. Some quirks to know about these things:

1) You can’t do a sale on the sales table at the same time you’re throwing a ranch gathering. I was hoping you could, but starting a sale immediately ends the gathering. Sucks, but that’s the way it is.

2) The front door of the nectary is the open-barn-doors arch to allow street sale customers into the nectary so they can buy from the sales table. If you swap these out for real, closed doors, the customers will just hang out nervously at the edge of the lot and then disappear, never buying anything. So if you want to use the sales table, you have to leave the arch. That said, an arch can’t be set as the front door for the purposes of other households coming to visit, so I have put a small, unusable wooden door off to the side of the barn doors and set that as the front door. If you’re visiting the nectary as another household, just knock on this door to make the building appear solid.

3) The nectars available for purchase at the retail store include a mix of qualities and levels of aging. There’s nothing there that is poor quality, and nothing that isn’t aged at all, but the bottles range from lightly aged to finely aged and some are normal rather than excellent. This is so that you can come to the store as a buyer while playing another household and have the option to either splurge on a high-quality bottle or not break the bank and go for something more modestly priced, according to your funds and storyline. Plus bonus: The Nectar Making Duo sub-contract with a few outside suppliers for specialty nectars they can’t brew themselves, so you can find occult nectars here, as well.

And on that note . . . to get Marissa Tracey in with the occult sims who brew the specialty nectars, and also because I think she looks a great deal like him, I have made Marissa—and her new twin brother, Chip—the products of a youthful indiscretion between Wolfgang Wilder and a human sim from Chestnut Ridge. They were both born as “dormant wolves” rather than full-blown werewolves and raised by their mother under her last name, but they know Wolfgang and are friends of the Moonwood Collective. Stocking the Collective’s moonpetal nectar got Marissa’s name circulating in the supernatural community, and now she contracts with the Straud Estate and the famed Madam Zoe herself, as well.

Aside from getting a dog, The Grove family have only gotten minor edits to careers and clothing; I put Umber in the musician career as per his backstory, stuck Juniper in the athlete career (under the new sub-category of show rider!) and let her hair down. It bothers me when the sims team gives two pre-made townies in the same world the exact same hairstyle in the exact same color, as it makes them too easy to confuse. So just like with Cottage Living, where I changed Rashida Watson’s hair to the blue-dyejob teen hair from Parenthood so she wouldn’t be confused with Cecelia Kang from behind, Juniper has now left the side braid to Sienna and adopted a more flowing-hair look that will accent those horse jumps. Oh, and Umber also started a band; he’s the leader of club of local musicians who play down at the saloon most nights—though if you feel like doing an afternoon gig on occasion, I also suggest meeting at the Hay Now! Festival Grounds sometimes.

Look, with the things in this pack, I just couldn’t resist making “Chip and Dale, Rescue Ranchers,” so I did. Chip Tracey (new brother of Marissa Tracey) and his husband, Dale Chooli (new brother of Juniper Grove) run a rescue ranch / petting zoo where children from all worlds can come to learn about animals of all types. The money they get from throwing “ranch animal day” events for kids is pretty modest to support two rescue horses, a cow, a llama, a bunch of mini goats and mini sheep, several chickens, a ton of stray dogs and cats, and some semi-wild rabbits, foxes, and birds, but it sure is cute! And they can always teach kids to ride and bring mini sheep to kids’ birthday parties on the side.

Juniper and Dale’s father, Jim Chooli, has also joined the save file as the horse wrangler for Plumbob Pictures’ on-site Western filming location. He lives in one of the many trailers on location in Galloping Gulch, alongside Barb Henderson (stylist, saloon singer, and local icon) and Giovanni Carrettino, a young cinematographer from Tartosa looking to make his own “penne Westerns.” Jim cares for and trains the studio’s three horses, Molasses, Gun, and Beauty, who play the roles of native American war horse, cowboy horse, and wild stallion, respectively.

Sienna Grove’s former lot is now home to an elderly horse trader named Tallulah Heiheiwuti, who has a bunch of family in Evergreen Harbor. One of them, her eldest granddaughter, has come to stay with her and learn the family business. The problem? She’s afraid of horses! I figured someone had to be, and that storyline just made sense. It also means there is a new family in Evergreen Harbor, which was pretty underpopulated before—Talullah’s son and his wife and kids are now fleshing out the community there and justifying the existence of the Coast Salish art swatch on the Horse Ranch wall hanging, while also giving you the new opportunity to play the botanist branch of the gardener career or the life of a pop-up cupcake baker.

Other things that have changed:

This save file has never featured Faiz Jaleel, the flower-seller from the My Wedding Stories pack, because neighborhood stories killed him off before I had quite figured out that feature and how to manage it. But now, thanks to Roberto Crinkletop’s secret family recipe, he has been resurrected and is in the save file as a living sim! I could not, unfortunately, figure out a way to reinstate him as the flower cart NPC, but he still has all the grapevine gossip interactions about owning it, so just pretend he’s hired extra help to man it sometimes when he’s busy. He has moved into his old childhood home in the big square in Tartosa with the other Piazza Dwellers, where he is trying to get a second business venture, a food stand, off the ground. He’s torn between the classic Tartosan cuisine of pizza and leaning further into the romantic atmosphere with heart-shaped waffles. Can you help him decide and make his new business a success?

Speaking of returning from the netherworld, the save file also never featured Felix Psyded, ghostly founder of the University of Britechester, because the game culled him before I discovered coolspear’s “Delay Ghost Culling Indefinitely” mod. Now that I have it, I have re-downloaded the original Felix from the gallery and made him the resident ghost of Lord Drake Men’s Dorm on the UBrite campus. How did I do this, you say? I’ve enrolled him in the History degree at UBrite in order to make him a proper resident of the dorm. You can keep him there practically indefinitely by having him enroll in only one class at a time while you play with other focus sims in this dorm—and if he runs out of classes and completes the degree, just start in on another degree. By my count, this should enable him to keep haunting this dorm for 156 in-game weeks—and that’s only if he never fails a single class! If you alternate having him fail and succeed so he does it slower but never gets kicked out, that’s 312 weeks, or basically eternity in sim years. He’s here forever! Also, in setting this up, I realized I had not included any woohoo locations in the UBrite dorms, which is completely unacceptable. Who’s ever heard of a dorm without a hookup spot?! I have now added closets to both the men’s and women’s dorms in order to fix this grave oversight. My deepest apologies.

I had previously not moved Wolfgang Wilder in with the other Moonwood Collective sims because I wanted him to remain the NPC librarian in Moonwood Mill, but in the process of making him related to his new children (Marissa and Chip Tracey), I discovered that somewhere along the way the game had already booted him out of that role for some reason. Just like with Faiz, I couldn’t figure out how to reinstate him, so now he has retired from librarianship, moved in with the rest of the Collective, and embraced his writing full-time—which means he still spends a lot of time at the library, since the Collective Cabin is off-the-grid and doesn’t have a computer.

On the subject of townies with NPC jobs, there’s news on the Scotts, the not-quite-playable family I booted to the homeless bin to prevent Sara Scott being supplanted as pub owner in Finchwick. You still can’t play her without losing her job, but her husband Simon is totally fair game, because he isn’t any kind of special villager NPC. So, with the introduction of a large estate needing filming crew for the long-running TV series “Dignity & Decorum,” I decided to rescue him from the homeless bin and make him the cinematographer on the Plumbob Pictures costume drama crew. This has actually allowed me to make the Scotts semi-playable, because even though Sara is still in the homeless bin, I was able to get Simon to ask her to be his NPC roommate, and that completely works! As long as she’s only a roommate and not technically part of the household, she can both be the pub owner and live in the swanky suite of rooms I’ve marked off for her and Simon within the manor house. Admittedly, she’s rarely there because pub hours are serious business, but still! That said, in my experience the game tends to get rid of roommates when you switch households, so you may need to reinstate her as roommate if you want to play with this arrangement down the line. Luckily, that’s very easy; just head down to the pub where she’ll be working and re-invite her under the “roommate…” menu.

Derek McMillan and Ian Moody, the stitchery shop owners in Henford-on-Bagley, are getting on in years and have been finding the crops and the chickens and the llamas and the store a lot to manage, so they’ve made a few strategic decisions to help themselves out. First and foremost, they have refocused on their mission to provide beautiful, high-quality colored wool to their customers by swapping out their chicken coop for a small sheepfold, which they have stocked with a multicolored array of mini sheep dyed every color of the rainbow (except for the colors already covered by their two llamas). They’ve also hired a ranch hand to assist with animal care and the garden, so they can focus their own energy on the shop and their sewing circle club, which is going better than ever now that it’s associated bug has been fixed!

The Watson family has moved off the hilltop to a smaller, flatter, and more organized farm with fewer camera problems down in the valley of Old New Henford. They have added a small flock of sheep to their livestock, and adopted an elderly Irish Draught horse named Dobber. Rashidah has already knitted him a set of leg warmers and a saddleblanket, and animal-lover Imran is learning to ride!

Lucha Harjo has started a side hustle selling popcorn down on the pier in Copperdale. It’s more a hobby than a career move right now, but oh, that satisfying crunch when those teens enjoy their popcorn to the tinny sounds of the ferris wheel music! Truly heartwarming.

Bob Pancakes randomly came home the other day with a tattoo of kitchen utensils on his forearm. Eliza thinks she smells a midlife crisis coming on . . .

Celebrity chef Clara Bjergsen decided that she wanted a whole new expanded kitchen, so she bought one. It’s not like she doesn’t have the money. Her current flavor obsession: reconnecting with her childhood and making heritage memories for her daughters through haute cuisine experimentation with traditional Nordic waffles.

On the opposite end of that career trajectory, aspiring chef Hugo Villareal has been hard at work spending his father’s ill-gotten gains on lots of new equipment to revive the old nectary the family moved into. With his new nectar press, oak barrels, bottle storage racks, pizza oven, stand mixer, and a block of parmigiana and a grater always at the ready, Hugo is all prepped to begin his journey into vineyard-to-table nectars perfectly paired with lovingly crafted Italian dishes. And he’s really leaning into it, too—he also bought himself a whole set of food-themed shirts, so he’s always repping his future career goals. If he could only graduate high school early and get started...

Refugio dei Pirati Resort in Tartosa discovered a long-forgotten Roman bath structure beneath its foundations and, deciding this was too good a find to ignore, tore down their entire building to excavate, restore, and construct an entrance to the thing. They subsequently rebuilt completely from the ground up, and now boast a whole new building with brand-new amenities like a private reception hall alongside refurbished old favorites like the couples’ spa. To celebrate their grand re-opening, they rebranded as the Amorosa Resort. If you’ve never vacationed in Tartosa, now might be the time to start—especially with all the new pizza ovens and functional nectar cellars popping up all over the place!

The shops on the Sulani Promenade have gotten in a whole new shipment of swimsuits thanks to the Poolside Splash Kit. They are now on display and for purchase from a series of colorful new mannequins. Whether you’re looking for tourist-y beach wear or wetsuits and snorkel gear, they’ve got you covered!

That's not the only new stock in this update: The Gnome’s Arms in Finchwick has stocked its behind-the-bar shelves with nectar. It’s not top-of-the-line stuff like you’ll find in Chestnut Ridge, but it does the trick!

SimCity Pizza, the oldest restaurant on The Waterfront in San Myshuno’s Spice Market, has finally, grudgingly, updated their equipment to include a modern pizza oven alongside their so-old-the-food-inspector-banned-them-from-using-it wood fired one. They’re having a “create your own flavor” special right now, where customers can make their own pizzas using off-menu flavors and ingredients. It’s really revitalized the place!

Llamante Llama Ranch in Selvadorada wants all animals to feel welcome, including those who are traveling with their humans. They have converted some previously unused space in the front into a small horse paddock, and added some items for cats and dogs, as well. If you’re looking to go horseback riding around Selvadorada (gorgeous, by the way!), this is the place to rent for your vacation. There are also a ton of juice barrels lined up behind the bar in town—you’re welcome to use a couple of them for horse training, if you want.

San Sequoia has a few more items in the open portions of worlds, including a newly functional lemonade stand alongside the makeshift one down on the docks! It’s a great place to sell ice cream, lemonade, or scout cookies (though you’ll need to make those yourself at home beforehand).

There are no new residents in Brindleton Bay. Nope, not a one. Not a single living soul. But the price has gone down on the old lightkeeper’s house on Deadgrass Isle. For some reason, you can now move in there completely for free…

DND Campaign: L.A. Numinous

The Pantheons of the World are not as fantastical or mythical as you might think. They are around us, always hiding in plain sight. They hide from the Mortal Realm, having forgone most of their earthly attachments after the Great War, the World War, the Last War that they would put themselves through.

They hid their World, their mythologies, their fantasies from the Mortal Realm, between the cracks of what can and can't be seen. There in the unperceived, the lives of fantastical creatures, of ogres and fairies, of kitsune and deities, they continue to survive.

It's 2028, just 6 months before the Summer Olympic Games starts anew in the City of Angels, Los Angeles. You scroll through your X feed, look at the current trending topics: Articles about Whales and Dolphins taking over the sea; The Olympic Flame being ignited in Greece; And the death of an Instagram Model with no leads. It's almost banal and boring as you flick through tweets.

Perhaps, just at the corner of your eye, you see a little miracle, a trick of the light or a creep of a shadow. But something/someone tumbles over you, a friend, a loved one, a mentor you've known for some months, weeks, or maybe only a few days. They're blood soaked and their eyes are pleading, worrying, and saddened, as they look at you, clutching at wounds that only look seconds old.

"Aphrodite is dead. This was not how I meant for this to happen but I'm sorry but I must pass my Eidolon to you before it's too late."

Light flashes before you could even ask. You find yourself engulfed with it, bathed in it and then... nothing.

Now there's a dead body in your hands and an ominous feeling in your chest. Your phone beeps and rings to life with a spoken message. You're pretty sure it didn't have that feature before.

"[Player Name] , you are summoned before the Divine Council to be condemned for the Assassination of a Deity and Usurping their Status. Cooperation would be most advised."

Hi, hello, Name's Kiri or Hex or Vai! I hardly ever post on Tumblr anymore or advertise any campaign ideas here due to school but this one has been nagging me just a little bit more after listening to Stray Gods, watching American Gods, and rewatching the Percy Jackson films, so I needed to just write down the blurb and the pitch in case anyone is wanting to play some DND in a Divine Urban Fantasy kind of setting.

The game is set in contemporary Los Angeles, a few years into the future, a few months before the Summer Olympic Games. You have been accused for the assassination of a Deity and usurping their power and status, their Eidolon. Through the Eidolon, you gain power and are now able to perceive Los Angeles in its truest form, a City of Mythical Creatures living in secrecy.

During Character Creation, you will choose a Deity from any Pantheon (Japanese, Chinese, Greek, Egyptian, Norse etc) whose Eidolon has been passed down to you.

This is going to be a Human-centric campaign so, despite the advertisement of other races in the game world, physically your character will be Human. Through the power of the Eidolon, they can be reskinned with the capabilities of other DND races.

Gameplay will be roleplay heavy, debating on either PBP semi-live text or just Discord VC with a separate channel for Texting RP. But there will also be combat involved of course.

The DM, me, hi, has a flexible schedule but I am in PST so applicants who are close to that would be preferred.

Current Allowed Resources are PHB, Xanathar's, Tasha's, and Mythic Theros

Depending on interest, around 4-8 rotating players can be taken.

Judith Ward and all the numbers?

Oh boy this will get long so under the cut it goes.

1) Something this character is truly proud of.

Judith started her acting career from the very bottom. She grew up in a poor family and all she had then was the hope and dream that one day, she would see her name as the lead star in PBP Lounge’s marquee.

When she arrived in Del Sol Valley back when Starlight Boulevard barely a blip on the radar, she only had the clothes on her back, a small worn-out trolley, and 5,000 simoleons to her name.

Through hard work, determination, and some right opportunities at the right time, she built her kingdom and now she just needs to show her interest in a role and she gets it right away.

2) Who they want to please the most.

Of course, nothing energizes her the most than the audience’s applause. Deep inside, however, she sometimes still has her doubts that Goneril was just putting up with her.

3) Who depends on them.

Apart from Gon and Duchess (her cat), I can’t really think of who else lmao

4) What they would do if they had one month to live.

Throw one last lampoon party and give everyone a good roast before she drops dead in a performance of a lifetime.

5) A cherished personal belonging.

The sapphire necklace her first manager gave her before parting ways professionally.

6) Something they lost, but would love to have back.

A relationship with the father who left them when she was a child and she never saw until she just found out he died.

7) This character’s favorite character

The lead from Melodies of the City is her favorite among the acting stints she has done.

8) What kind of car they would drive.

The Sim equivalent of a Bentley.

9) What calms them when they are upset.

Petting her cat Duchess, listening to jazz, and sorting her massive jewelry collection.

10) How they deal with pain.

Judith has bipolar disorder and some of her “legendary meltdowns” are mostly her in a manic or mixed state. While she still has her moments especially when really stressed, her illness is controlled with medication and extensive therapy.

Nowadays she either writes on her private journal or talks it over with Gon

11) This character’s favorite piece or pieces of clothing.

Her silk nightgowns and the aformentioned necklace.

12) How they sleep.

She’s an extremely light sleeper and even a small bump wakes her up quickly.

13) What kind of parent they would be.

Her dream life is Double Income No (Sim) Kids, thank you very much.

14) How they did in school

She excelled in music and drama club, but is average-ish everywhere else. She still has a complex about it to this day.

15) What cologne or perfume they would use

Some sort of floral scent but I haven’t thought of which one yet.

16) Their sexuality

When she was starting out, she worked as a sugar baby to pay the bills. She even married some of her sugar daddies for the insurance payouts.

Later in life, though, she discovered that she’s really a raging lesbian. At one point, she was in a relationship with a female director and their breakup was so devastating to Judith that she basically isolated herself for a couple of years and is only just starting to come out of her opulent cocoon.

She’s actually a talented cook, but doesn’t have confidence in her abilities. Gon (who I play as a food critic and is one of the most sought-after restaurant raters in the Sim world) really loves her cooking even if sometimes Judith doesn’t really believe her when she says it.

Judith is also a green thumb and has a small plot where she plants her own herbs for her cooking.

19) When they feel safest.

In her secret nook in her attic. Preferably with Gon’s strong butch arms wrapped around her.

Judith has some sort of duality to her. Her public persona is very obnoxious, opulent, and very larger than life.

In private, however, lies a very vulnerable woman with a very unstable self-worth. She constantly worries that she’s too much for most people and that one day she would be a nobody.

Having Goneril around was the first time Judith felt that she had someone solid and stable to rely on.

20) Household chore they hate the most

Cleaning the toilets!

21) Their fondest childhood memory

Taking care of two stray cats that come in their house every day for a week and talking to them as if they were her friends.

Her favorite drink in my game is Sea of Fire, so that’s what she usually gets.

She sometimes wishes she was very sure of who she really is. While being a chameleon helped her as an actress and performer, not so much in her personal life.

El diseño del MPG341CQR es saliente y conveniente agresivo en su parte trasera, donde se mezcla el utilizado mate con una franja central con brillo y una cenefa geométrica, rematados con unas branquias iluminadas por RGB.

Contrasta con una parte punta conveniente sobria, en la que claramente destacan las 5 bandas RGB, que, al igual que las traseras, están controladas por su software Mystic Light. Esto le da un toque muy particular al punta del celador muy muy curvo (panel 3800R). Sin requisa, no ha sido para nadie difícil acostumbrarse a dicha curvatura

La peana metálica tiene una forma triangular agresiva, pero no ocupa un exceso de espacio en la mesa, habiendo unos 25cm desde la pata trasera hasta el punta del celador. Esto te permitirá meter el teclado casi debajo del celador, poco útil para aquellos con escritorios no muy anchos. Concertado sobre los LED, cuenta con una pequeña webcam integrada que más delante te mostraremos.

El accionado de la peana es suave y preciso, pudiendo moverlo con sólo una mano, pero quedando muy firme. El celador es compatible con VESA 100x100mm, de hecho, incluye un segundo distracción de tornillos que hace más sencillo su montaje en un soporte, encima de incluir un embellecedor para cubrir la zona cuando lo usamos con diferente peana.

Conectividad

La conectividad es uno de los puntos donde se impone como un producto de paipay entrada, y donde claramente se diferencia del MAG341CQ del año pasado.

Para sacarle partido a los USB tendremos que tener conectado el USB 3.1 upstream, pero encima será imprescindible para poder utilizar la utilidad MSI GamingOSD 2.0, desde la cual sacar todo el potencial del celador.

Pero lo que más me apasionamiento la atención en cuanto a conectividad, es el cuidado que se ha puesto en la función PbP (Picture-by-Picture), pudiendo atrasarse a poner hasta 4 dispositivos a la vez en pantalla. Poco que posiblemente no hagas nunca, pero que puede ser interesante para ciertos usuarios…. no sé, imagino conectar el portátil del trabajo en pequeño, el sobremesa en extenso y en pequeño igualmente el partido de fútbol mientras terminas una tarea para el día venidero.

Pantalla

Si ya la carta de presentación es buena, con su panel SVA de 8bits con resolución 3440×1440 y hasta 144Hz (firmado por Samsung), la verdad es que su rendimiento es sencillamente espectacular. Muy buena homogeneidad y color consistentes en todo el panel, sin ningún tipo de fuga en los bordes y con un brillo de 400 nits que le permite mostrar blancos y negros muy puros.

La prueba de bleeding es simplemente perfecta. Teniendo que atrasarse a los 6400 de ISO para que positivamente se empezaran a notar el backlighting del celador, pero en ningún borde se aprecian fugas ni glow, pese a lo finos que son los biseles (menos de 1cm).

La venidero imagen nos muestra como se ve una panorama oscura como en el gameplay de Resident Evil 2, en el que a simple tino la imagen estaba entorno al ISO 800-1600, pudiendo apreciar una gran amplitud de sombras, sin ningún pista de banding, defecto muy asociado con los paneles VA. Sin requisa, al activar el HDR sí aparecía el banding y se hacía conveniente desagradable. Pero vamos, que el panel se ve espectacular y no es necesario activar el HDR.

Interiormente del gran despliegue de mejoras de imagen incluidos en el OSD, para mí la opción destino es el NigthVision. Esta opción nos permite ajustar la oscuridad de las escenas sin fundir las zonas iluminadas, poco que en anteriores generaciones de paneles VA solía ser un problema en juegos oscuros. Y aquí viene uno de los primeros usos que tiene la webcam: analiza la iluminación de tu habitación para ajustar el valía de NightVision mediante inteligencia fabricado. Suena poco artificioso… pero funciona muy proporcionadamente.

El calibrado del panel es sencillo. Simplemente hay que tener cuidado con no activar demasiadas mejoras de imagen al mismo tiempo, pues pueden tener resultados contraproducentes, así como algunas opciones bloquean a otras (como el HDCR que bloquea el brillo). Los mejores resultados los he conseguido con los siguientes ajustes:

Productividad y Multitarea

Sin duda uno de los puntos fuertes del celador, donde las 34″ marcan la diferencia, ya que todo es espacio horizontal nos permite tener 3-4 archivos abiertos al mismo tiempo y ser muy productivos. Aunque el formato curvo 3800R resulta poco excesivo, para tareas de diseño intensivas, se puede trabajar con él. De hecho, en estas 2 semanas he trabajado con Photoshop, Lightroom, Powerpoint, Excel y otros programas sin decano problema. Pese a lo cual, para monitores 34″ destinados a trabajo, sigo prefiriendo los paneles planos o 1800R como mucho.

Para aquellos que trabajan de tinieblas, cuenta con un modo «Protección del Ojo» que simplemente es un low blue light pero poco conseguido, que tiñe por completo la pantalla de un amarillo demasiado exagerado. Personalmente, si queremos poco similar, es preferible configurar el perfil «Leyente» con niveles más bajos de brillo/contraste entorno al 50-60 y la temperatura de color en «Cálida» o «Personalizada».

Juegos y Multimedia

Aquí es sin duda donde el MSI MPG341CQR saco todo su potencial. Esparcirse en 3440×1440 da una experiencia muy inmersiva, que se completa aún más si ajustamos el FOV entorno a los 90º en los juegos en primera persona (fundamentalmente FPS y coches), que será aproximadamente el campo visual que ocupe el celador frente a nosotros.

Las imágenes se mueven muy fluidas a partir de los 100Hz, y no hemos apreciado ningún tipo de ghosting, ni banding, ni overshoot. Defectos que suelen ser más frecuentes en paneles VA que en otros tipos de panel.

Personalmente no he tenido la error de ajustar los títulos de imagen respecto a mi uso natural, pero con el software GamingOSD 2.0 no sólo podremos cambiar de modo de imagen, sino crear perfiles específicos para cada distracción. Y si en casa sois varios jugando a los mismos juegos, su cámara integrada es capaz de registrar a quien tiene delante de forma inteligente.

Los modos gaming que vienen incluidos (FPS, Carreras, RTS y RPG) serán instrumentos si los configuras uno a uno. De manufactura, la sensación es que pretenden exagerar en exceso la sinceridad, hasta el punto de perder suavidad en las imágenes, y a su vez exageran igualmente en exceso brillo y contraste. El HDR de momento lo descartaría, pero es posible que en futuras actualizaciones del firmware del celador mejoren su implementación (memorar que aún no ha desencajado a la traspaso en el momento de mis pruebas).

El Freesync ha funcionado perfectamente con mi AMD R9 Fury, aunque para atrasarse a los 100Hz con la resolución 3440×1440 (que es el veterano que alcanza con el HDMI2.0) haya tenido que bajarse algún ajuste.

Para alcanzar los 144Hz vuestra gráfica tiene que contar con DisplayPort 1.4 (y ser conveniente potente). En mi caso me he tenido que conformar con probar los 144Hz a 2560×1080 y han funcionado perfectamente, aportando cierta fluidez extra respecto a los 100Hz, sobretodo en momentos de mucha hecho y giros rápidos de cámara.

Menú OSD y funciones

Los menús del OSD del celador son los habituales de MSI, resultando muy completos y sencillos gracias a la navegación con un joystick en la parte trasera.

Podemos mover el joystick para obtener a los ajustes rápidos (izquierda-alarma, derecha-fuente, arriba-modos, abajo-crosshairs) e incluso personalizar ajustes rápidos desde el software MSI GamingOSD 2.0 (necesitamos tener conectado el USB 3.1 Upstream para que funcione).

El software es sin duda completísimo como se puede ver en la animación y como hemos ido explicando a lo desprendido de la review. Adicionalmente nos permite crear patrones de pantalla partida y nominar qué aplicación o ventana mandamos a cada cuadrante, sin error de desactivar las particiones de Windows 10 que tan proporcionadamente funcionan.

Extras

El nivel de detalles que tiene el celador es enorme y no podíamos dejarnos fuera estos 2 pequeños gadgets que vienen con el celador: un bungee para el cable del ratón y un soporte para webcam.

El bungee es muy sencillo, con unos 8 cm en total, pero podemos ponerlo tanto en el manada derecho como izquierdo, gran detalle no olvidándose de los jugadores zurdos. Por otro manada el soporte para webcam nos ha sorprendido mucho, pues aprovecha un chaflán de ventilación en la parte superior trasera que recorre todo el celador, teniendo sencillez total para situar la cámara.

Veredicto y Alternativas

MSI llegó con fuerza en 2018 al mundo de los monitores, pero este 2019 quiere convertirse en el rey de los monitores gaming. El MPG341CQR es sencillamente espectacular. Colores vivos y vibrantes, un panel rozando la perfección para un SVA, infinidad de opciones de configuración, panel de 3440×1440 a 144Hz…

No está exento de algún que otro laudo, como el irregular funcionamiento del HDR-400 y algunos modos gaming o funcionalidades demasiado exageradas. Separado de eso, la única queja que podría añadir es que es poco «perezoso» a la hora de registrar fuentes de vídeo y el menú OSD no hace caso cuando no tenemos una fuente conectada. Cosas que espero puedan solucionar con puesta al día del Firmware cuando salgan a la traspaso próximamente.

La alternativa en LG son los 34GK950 (hay interpretación FreeSync y interpretación GSync) monitores nanoIPS de 144Hz que rondan los 1.100-1.250€ pero que han hexaedro algunos problemas hace poco. Con paneles VA de AUOptronics tenemos los ASUS PG35VQ, Acer X35 y AOC AG353UCG que llegan a los 12bits y los 200Hz, pero cuyo precio se dispara entorno a los 2000€. Así que tendremos que ver a qué precio llega el MSI…

Si miramos ya modelos de 2017-2018 que se quedan en los 100Hz, la proposición se amplía conveniente, pudiendo encontrar monitores a partir de los 600-700€ hasta los 1000€… incluyendo el MAG341CQ y el Samsung C34H890 (que montan igualmente paneles SVA de Samsung).

How The Milwaukee Bucks Brought Their Offense Into The 21st Century

When he was hired in May to coach the Milwaukee Bucks, Mike Budenholzer inherited a promising but underachieving core of young players led by Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Bucks — who have not won a playoff series since 2001 — had just suffered yet another postseason disappointment and hoped a coaching change would help them escape perpetual mediocrity.

To say the results have been encouraging would be an understatement. Budenholzer has implemented a new and more modern offensive strategy that is utilizing Antetokounmpo’s unique talents like never before. Under Budenholzer this season, the Bucks are scoring at a conference-leading rate of 113.2 points per 100 possessions. The team has the best record in the NBA, has won 10 of its last 11, and has already beaten conference rivals Boston, Philadelphia and Toronto (three times now). Milwaukee is heading into All-Star weekend as perhaps the most intimidating team in the Eastern Conference.

So, yes, the coaching change has worked. But what exactly has Budenholzer done — and why is it working so well for the Bucks? One strategic change was clear even back in the preseason when Budenholzer rolled out his new offense.

“Coach Bud wants us to shoot more 3s,” Milwaukee guard Malcolm Brogdon told Eric Nehm of The Athletic. “A lot more 3s.”

Last year, the Bucks attempted just 24.7 3-pointers per game (25th-most in the league). Under Budenholzer, they have pumped up their long-range volume to 37.8 3-pointers per game, second-most in the NBA this season (trailing only the Houston Rockets).

But Budenholzer has done more than just open the 3-point flood gates in Milwaukee this year: He has engineered a sea change in shot selection.

“I think there’s a lot of focus on how many 3s [we are taking], but hopefully we’re having the best of everything,” Budenholzer said to The Athletic. “If you’re an efficient offense, you’re getting to the basket. You’re getting to the paint. You’re getting to the free-throw line. And you’re shooting a bunch of 3s.”

This season, the Bucks have done more to modernize their shot chart than any other team in the league, as shown in these year-to-year charts.1 Their share of shots taken at the rim or behind the 3-point line — referred to as the Moreyball Rate, after Houston general manager Daryl Morey — has jumped by 16 percentage points, according to data compiled by PBP Stats. Correspondingly, their average 2-pointer is being attempted from a shorter distance, about 2.5 feet closer to the hoop. And everybody on the team is cutting back on midrange jumpers.

The Bucks’ transformations in Moreyball Rate and 2-point shot distance are the biggest changes by any team in the NBA from last season to this one. In fact, the Bucks’ sudden modernization is among the most drastic changes in shot selection by any team during the entire era of play-by-play data (available since 2001-02).

For the Bucks, the advantage of being laggards in the Moreyball revolution has been an opportunity to learn from the mistakes of their competitors. Seth Partnow, now Milwaukee’s director of basketball research, wrote for Vice Sports in 2016 that creating makeable shots takes more than just jacking threes and driving headlong into the lane. “Three-pointers and shots at the rim are indicators of good offense, but they’re not good offense in a vacuum, and teams that use them as targets should be wary of putting the cart before the horse. Those are good shots in theory. In practice, the best shots are the ones the personnel on hand can make.”

Fundamentally, the Bucks have achieved their impressive offensive efficiency on the strength of the two principles of Budenholzer’s offensive philosophy: pace and space.

Budenholzer’s emphasis on court spacing has been emblemized by the image of five “stand-here” squares he had taped to the floor of the Bucks practice court, surrounding the 3-point line. By initiating their offensive possessions with all five players outside the 3-point line, the Bucks leave more space for Antetokounmpo to attack the basket. Once Antetokounmpo draws attention around the basket, he’s free to kick the ball out to open 3-point shooters in space. It’s a positive feedback loop that yields easier shots for Antetokounmpo and his teammates.

The Bucks’ improved floor spacing has been facilitated by some shrewd front-office maneuvers. The team signed capable stretch bigs Brook Lopez and Ersan Ilyasova on team-friendly contracts while at the same time cutting ties with paint-clogging centers Greg Monroe, Tyler Zeller and, most recently, John Henson.

With all that extra space, Antetokounmpo has been attacking the basket relentlessly this season. Since last year, he has increased his volume of drives per game from 11.0 to 12.9; his paint touches are up from 5.3 to 6.5 per game; and he’s now taking more shots at the rim (523) than any other player in the league. These additional basket-attacking duties have put the onus on Antetokounmpo to read the defense and distribute the ball to his teammates.

The result has been a career high in assists for Antetokounmpo this season (5.9 per game), with an emphasis on kick-out dimes. On 289 total assists this season, Antetokounmpo has set up a teammate for a 3-point basket 168 times (58 percent), while he has assisted a teammate in scoring a 2-point basket just 121 times (42 percent). In other words, Antetokounmpo has created 262 more points via assisted 3-pointers than he has via assisted 2-pointers this year. That is the biggest such margin of any player in the league and it’s not even remotely close — Detroit’s Blake Griffin is second with 98 more points assisted on 3-pointers than 2-pointers.

Among the top-30 assist leaders this season, Antetokounmpo and teammate Eric Bledsoe are two of only seven players who have created more points via assists on 3s than on 2s.

At the top of the list, Antetokounmpo finds himself in the company of a few other big ball handlers — Griffin, Ben Simmons, Luka Doncic — who can distribute to their teammates from the inside out. LeBron James, who is basically the prototype for this point-forward approach, assisted on 344 of his teammates’ 3-pointers in Cleveland last year (for 1,032 points), more than any other player in the NBA. (He created 226 more points on the 3s he assisted than on 2s.) Antetokounmpo is on pace to post a similarly lopsided distribution of assists this season.

Impressively, when Antetokounmpo has been on the court this season, 89 percent of the Bucks’ 3-pointers have been assisted; that’s 11 percentage points more than the team’s assisted-3 rate when he’s been on the bench. The Bucks’ improved spacing seems to be helping Antetokounmpo create all the right shots for his Milwaukee teammates.

Establishing a faster pace has gone hand-in-hand with the Bucks’ efforts to create better spacing. Budenholzer has emphasized playing with urgency and purposeful movement, and the team has shaved nearly a second off the duration of its average offensive trip (from 14.0 to 13.1 seconds per possession). According to Synergy Sports, the Bucks have attempted fewer field goals this season during the last seven seconds of the shot clock (from 19 percent of all field-goal attempts to 15 percent) and have correspondingly increased the proportion of their attempts (from 59 percent to 65 percent) that are attempted with somewhere between seven and 18 seconds remaining on the shot clock.

Antetokounmpo helps push the pace for the Bucks. Budenholzer has instructed his lanky star to dribble the ball up the court immediately after securing any defensive rebound, which has created more uptempo half-court possessions and shots in semitransition.

The Bucks are shooting better when they keep their offensive flow uptempo like this — with an effective field-goal percentage of 56 percent on shots taken with between seven and 18 seconds left on the shot clock and just 48 percent on their more slowly developing shots.

A new and more modern offensive approach predicated on floor spacing and pace, along with some smart personnel decisions, have helped Budenholzer unlock the immense potential of the Bucks’ young superstar. Perhaps when they hired Budenholzer the Bucks would have been happy with winning a playoff series. But with Milwaukee in pole position for its first conference championship appearance in nearly two decades, the Bucks now have eyes on a bigger prize. De Asturias contaremos con la participación de los Colegios Profesionales de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos, Colegio de Ingenieros Industriales, Colegio de Aparejadores y Arquitectos Técnicos. Y las empresas Prodintec, Ecubo, Tactica Tic y Giroa-Veolia.

La Sostenibilidad de nuestros edificios y comunidades (nuestros barrios) está centrada en las personas. Está pensada en lo que cada uno de nosotros hace en nuestro lugar de vida, nuestro lugar de trabajo y los espacios urbanos en donde se asienta cada una de nuestras actividades.

Todos ellos están pensados en maximizar el equilibrio del triple resultado final entre Personas, Beneficio y Planeta (PBP). Todo está concebido para que sea más rentable para el que lo construye, opera y mantiene, para que tenga un menor impacto en el medioambiente y para que sea mejor para las personas que viven o trabajan en ellos.

El conseguir la excelencia en los edificios y el equilibrio entre maximizar el beneficio, el menor impacto en el medioambiente y un mayor bienestar para las personas que viven o trabajan en ellos, ya se ha logrado en España. Hay muchas empresas en nuestro país que se han dado cuenta, lo han visto, se han puesto manos a la obra y lo han logrado, contribuyendo con su esfuerzo a que tengamos unos edificios mejores a un coste menor.

Este año vamos a escuchar en la II Edición del Fórum de Urbanismo y Construcción Sostenible a los representantes de los distintos Colegios Profesionales, como plantean estos retos a nivel de su colectivo y a nivel individual y como están influyendo en el cambio de las distintas profesiones tanto de cara a los servicios que tienen que prestar como a las armas educativas y formativas con las que tienen que dotarse.

La industria de los Productos, Materiales y Equipos se está adaptando e implantado mejoras de todo tipo de cara a este nuevo mercado para ser más competitivo y diferenciarse respecto a sus competidores:

Veremos cómo los fabricantes de sistemas de climatización y ventilación, que Contribuyen a la Certificación LEED, están no solo logrando sistemas más eficientes energéticamente que ahorran dinero a sus usuarios, sino que proporcionan a los mismos un mayor confort de temperaturas, ruido y calidad del aire interior, que se pueden gestionar mejor (desde el teléfono móvil) y su integración en los sistemas en la nube, los sensores e inteligencia artificial.

Nos mostrarán sistemas de suelos, que contribuyen a la Certificación LEED, con altos contenidos en reciclados, sin compuestos orgánicos volátiles y hechos a partir de materiales rápidamente renovables que proporcionan a sus usuarios unas mejores prestaciones de salud y confort.

La industria de los servicios a los que diseñan, construyen, operan y mantienen los edificios también se están adaptando al mercado en rápido cambio:

Nos explicarán como los edificios Certificados LEED, que gastan menos por año (agua, gas, electricidad, gas-oil, residuos) son más eficientes actuarialmente, financieramente valen más y son tasados a valores más altos que los que no lo son. Vendiéndose por tanto más caros que sus competidores.

Nos enseñarán como las nuevas tecnologías de Laser-Escaner posicional y con Dron unidos a los softwares de diseño en 3D BIM (Building Information Modelling) están produciendo ahorros de tiempo y avances en la coordinación de equipos cuando se diseñan y se controla la construcción y la operación y mantenimiento de los edificios LEED, que ahorra mucho tiempo y dinero.

Seremos informados en como la impresión 3D a gran escala y en grandes dimensiones está transformando la industria de la prefabricación para la construcción.

La ingeniería de instalaciones también se está transformando y veremos no solo como lo está haciendo para generar una mayor eficiencia energética sino como esto se aplica durante la operación y mantenimiento de los edificios incorporando las tecnologías de la información para maximizarlo.

En el área de tendencias y el entorno de la sostenibilidad veremos hacia dónde va LEED-BO&M de operación y mantenimiento en edificios existentes, veremos como está planteado LEED-ARC en base a datos reales de eficiencia logrados en edificios, barrios, ciudades y transporte.

Hacia dónde va el futuro de la industria del inmobiliario y la edificación sostenible. Y qué retos y oportunidades se nos ofrecen en base a los nuevos catálogos urbanísticos en tramitación.

El objetivo final de este Fórum de Urbanismo y Construcción Sostenible es convertir la ciudad de Oviedo en una cita anual de análisis y opinión entorno a la Sostenibilidad en el Medio Construido. Y convertirse en punto de encuentro para aquellos profesionales que apuestan por el intercambio de experiencias, el conocimiento y la innovación.

Una apuesta por integrar en este Fórum a profesionales expertos que cuentan con una dilatada trayectoria profesional en esta materia para que puedan interactuar con ellos los nuevos emprendedores que inician su actividad en el campo de la eficiencia energética y la sostenibilidad en el medio construido.

Este Fórum de ámbito nacional reunirá en la ciudad de Oviedo a Ingenieros, Arquitectos, Promotores, Constructores, Fabricantes de Materiales y Equipos, Centros de I+D+i, Asociaciones y Empresas afines del sector.
