Late Night Comforts
Just some fluff to help me feel better. It was too soft not to share though!
Your limbs felt too heavy as you tried to move them. Your heart was threatening to beat out of your chest as it pounded in your ears. With a gasp, you woke up violently, eyes wide as you reassured yourself that you were safe in your room. Immediately, tears started rolling down your cheeks as you choked back a sob, trying to shake the ghosts of harmful hands like cobwebs off your body. You nearly jumped out of your skin when you felt a warm hand rest on your back.
Looking over your shoulder, you saw MacCready looking at you, groggy and worried. Before he could ask anything, you broke down crying. He sat up slightly, pulling you to his bare chest as he wrapped you in comforting warmth, stroking your hair as you cried against him. It had been years since the nightmares had reared their ugly heads. Just as you thought you were getting over them, they returned, as angry as ever.
You don't know how long you lay in his arms, only aware of him. Mac kissed your forehead softly, whispering comforting words into your hair. As your sobbing turned to sniffles, he cupped your chin gently.
"Do you want to talk about it?" He asked, sleep and concern layering his voice. "Was it the nightmare again?"
You nodded, unable to look him in the eyes, muttering, "I just wish I wasn't broken. I'm so tired, Mac."
The exhaustion in your voice broke his heart as he pulled you even closer. "You're not broken. You never have been, hon. I love you as you are." He rubbed small circles against your back as you started relaxing into his touch. The terrors of the night started to fade as you felt sleep taking over. Tilting his head down, MacCready captured your lips in a kiss. "Get some sleep, okay? I'm right here. No one will ever hurt you while I'm here. I love you."
Burying your face into his shoulder, you placed a kiss upon his skin before sighing. "I love you, Mac. Thank you."
