Reading your most recent post on Movie!Bowser… it does make me quite curious as to how they’ll handle Bowser and Mario’s fighting dynamic in the hypothetical second Mario movie. In terms of physical strength, I mean. Game!Mario is quite capable of taking down Bowser in his original form(as in, can physically take Bowser down without power-ups) but Mario more or less needed the aid of the star power-up to do so. The movie versions of M&L are definitely closer to normal humans in terms of fighting prowess, so it makes me wonder if they’ll try having Mario, and Luigi by proxy, fight in hand-to-hand combat with no power-ups with Bowser at some point?

Maybe that could be a plot point in the second movie? Bowser worms his way out and starts whichever villainous plot his evil little heart desires, and Mario and Luigi start off a journey of sorts to find another star power-up, believing it crucial in obtaining victory? But, unable to find it, they’re more or less thrown into the fray with their wits and only limited power-ups in tow? And thus sustain a significant amount more of injuries without their invincibility from the star? (And perhaps the fabled green mushroom makes its debut that way…) The movies could have an interesting juxtaposition with the first movie bros being inexperienced + power-upped vs. second movie bros being more experienced + ….not-so-power-upped lol. They sort’ve have to earn their hero titles more(though moreso in the eyes of themselves only. Mostly everyone around them is already like ‘Duh. Your heroes with or without them.’ But, alas, character arcs! Potentially!) Sorry, I’m kinda word vomiting, but day by day I grow ever more curious how the second movie could play out….

One thing I like about The Super Mario Bros. Movie is that it's pretty much just an origin story. There is so much room to expand between where the movie left off and the full Mario lore as we know it today, and I for one am interested in the process of Mario and Luigi going from "Haha! We're heroes!" to "Oh f*ck, we're heroes," to "Okay... we're heroes... we can do this."

Like, how would they react to the idea of facing off against Bowser again without a power star to help them? How will their dynamic shake out when they're bouncing from one life-or-death situation to another? How will they balance their protectiveness toward each other with their moral obligations? Where will the new stakes take them? What new powerup/ally/enemy will they encounter? But back to what you're saying. If Mario and Luigi don't use powerups– even small ones– in the fight against Bowser, I predict a combination of the following tactics will be employed:

Reliance on dexterity. Bowser has them beat in terms of speed, strength, and resilience, but being a giant turtle monster he isn't nearly as agile as Mario and Luigi.

Using Bowser's emotions against him. It's his most glaring weakness, so while prodding at his ego is risky it could also make his movements more predictable.

Using their surroundings to their advantage instead of relying strictly on their own physical ability, which is a pretty common thing to do in Mario games (and video games in general.)

Leaning heavily on teamwork, not just with each other but with Peach, Toad, and probably Yoshi given the post-credits teaser.

And maybe a certain green and white mushroom will need to come into play at some point? We'll see. My biggest fear is that the writers will nerf Bowser a little so that he's easier to take on without the aid of the super star, but I really hope that doesn't happen. Speedy, strong, ruthless, unwavering, tactical, durable Bowser with a fire breath powerful enough to destroy civilizations is my favorite Bowser.

IU Comeback Style

So as the teaser poster released today, IU's 2024 comeback begins with Love Wins on 24/01/2024 and V appears in the MV.

When asked about filming the MV she said "The music video was great from the time of filming. It's completely CG-free, and it has an atmosphere that's never been in any IU music video before."

All the cobwebs and decay makes me wonder if Tae is supposed to be an echo of the past. She filmed him then but now he's gone and she is watching the movie of their time together???

She's been in Milan for the last few days promoting Gucci and rocking her new peach comeback hairstyle. So gorgeous. Looking forward to hearing what she has got up her sleeve.

When Shawn teases his upcoming song “Summer of Love”, he posts a video of himself driving along the highway to the sunset listening to a (teaser) clip of his new song.

Two days later, Niall tweets randomly that he was driving into the sunset whilst playing stuff he’s been working on.

Shawn releases the song called “Summer of Love”, which Niall very proudly promoted at every chance he could (including reminding everyone on the day it was dropping) and then even posting himself singing it while wearing the merch….

SOL lyric video included the words “kisses on your body” on a man’s back…

And gay coded even further in Shawn’s music video, by him in what creates a suggestive position while eating a peach at the very end. (Which, thanks to annoying YouTube slapping windows on the screen, made it so if you blinked you would miss it.) Shawn unhinged gay, love it for him so much. Genuinely. ❤️🏳️‍🌈

Also, that is a mermaid masthead, in a mesh shirt, eating a peach. Shawn is the mermaid in the clip.

And then here in 2023, Niall releases a whole song saying “wanting your summer skin pressed on mine”?!?!?

Jikook and their “Don’t give a **** “ era ?

There is something that I have noticed recently whilst researching for my Live Reaction threads. That is, 2021 seems to have been claimed as the "jikook don't give a **** era." This isn't just from jikookers, but from the fandom and general public too. I have seen this phase used a lot when looking back into 2021 moments and also with the recent release of Memories 2021. One example of this was during the second Seasons Greetings 2022 teaser. Just like the change of reaction to the ramen comments, the way people responded to this was vastly different to how the fandom reacted to 2021 Seasons Greetings. I shall explore where this phrase has come from and what has caused it to start.

The end of 2020 going into 2021

The first teaser for Seasons Greetings 2021 came out on the 9th November 2020, giving us an idea of what the concepts would be to begin with. The second teaser was uploaded on the 11th November. During this video, you could see a clip of Jimin and Jungkook in similar attire. It was obvious by the clips of the other members that Jikook would be in a unit together.

Fast forward to December 16th and clips from the DVD were slowly being uploaded. However, a certain unit clip was missing from the Twitter timeline. This was Jimin and Jungkook's pizza unit. We did not see it in full until Peaches had uploaded it, causing jikookers to thank them for all their effort. JK accounts at the time were asked why they did not include their unit scene with no response. It included Jeon Jungkook, so why not include the content clip when he is with Park Jimin?

Around the same time of Seasons Greetings we had a flurry of jikook. MMA Black Swan was on the 6th December, which showed Jimin and Jungkook’s clear dance skill and chemistry. This was quickly followed by the Dynamite Holiday Remix on the 11th, showing a very comfy looking jikook being intimate with each other. We also saw some very sweet moments between jikook in early 2021 when Winter Package was released on February 27th. All of this footage clearly highlighted the bond between Jimin and Jungkook. Nothing new to jikookers who are used to seeing them being close, but to some these clips had started a certain spark.

Butter Era On the 21st May 2021, Butter was released with a press conference and vlive on the same day. After the press conference @bts_bighit posted a group photo. In it, Jimin is leaning his head on Jungkook’s cheek with their bodies turned to each other. There was a slight murmur in the fandom. Nothing big, but Jimin and Jungkook’s stance in the official photo was definitely noticed. It’’s this photo that sparks the catalyst for the idea that Jikook were showing more than previous years in 2021. We later got Bangtan Bombs of Jikook being together for the photoshoot for Butter and during the making of the MV. You couldn’t ignore that they were often together in these videos where Jimin and Jungkook are playing or goofing around, whilst the other members rested or played with their phones. Again, this is nothing new.

There were no shortages of cute jIkook moments. From cute moments from Run BTS, with Jungkook’s Mother saying she loved Jimin. To interviews with Jikook yet again ending up in their own little worlds. We had Jungkook admitting that he is Jimin's Copycat. With VLives where Jimin and Jungkook can’t keep their eyes or hands off each other. Then seeing Jikook sing “Anyone” together followed by Jimin literally jumping into Jungkook’s arms. Something that is clearly natural between them. Throughout the entire year, there were countless clips of Jikook being together.

The End of 2021

Just like 2020 there was an influx of Jikook towards the end of the year. On September 10th we got the release of MOTS ON:E DVD, with the famous hickey clip. Followed by Jimin and Jungkook posting selcas whilst it was trending. A few days later, a selca was posted of Jikook together at the airport on their way to the UN. With some saying it reflected a couples trend at the time. At the event itself, Jungkook gave Jimin a look of support after he lost his place and defended him during the Vlive afterwards. You will know from other clips that Jikook communicates through looks or smiles, giving support even in important events.

On Jimin’s Birthday we got the very domestic Vlive, where Jimin rang for Jungkook. Jungkook arrived very quickly and the two could NOT stop holding hands and being very sweet together until Jimin continued his vlive alone again. You could not deny the vibes here as soon as Jungkook entered the room. The same happened during the Vlive with Jobi, Tae, Jimin and JK in America. As soon as Jungkook was there, JImin lit up and his body language changed. The tones they both used. The way they acted and spoke about each other. ARMY must have felt the same way, because this VLive had such a positive reaction and they recognised the same behaviour in future vlives.

It had been a long time since BTS had performed in front of an audience. The atmosphere was huge in the US and Seoul. You will see Jikook behave the same way in 2021 and 2022 as they have in previous years. The fun dances, the flirting, the butt smacking. All of it. However, to those that are unaware it was like they needed a reminder. The reactions to all the concert performances in terms of Jikook were the loudest. ARMY could not believe that Jikook was doing this in front of so many people in a stadium. Forgetting moments at locations such as Rose Bowl and Hamilton.

To me, it is obvious that 2021 was not a “don’t give a **** era” for Jikook. It was just a period of time where the fandom and public became more aware of them. They have always had fun during DNA. Always supported each other. Always behaved the same way. However, this time, some ARMY have indeed opened their eyes. It’s not just jokes that last a few days, some are really looking back and asking themselves if there is something there. It’s not Jikook that has changed, it’s how they are perceived by their own fandom.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie

Otherwise known as: "How I Learned to Stop Worrying About Chris Pratt and Enjoy a Video Game Adaptation."

So, first, some non-spoiler thoughts.

Part 1: The Trailers

I don't know who was in charge of the trailer selection to go in front of this movie, but we need a word. Because a 'Happy Gilmore-esque' comedy about a guy trying to impress his girlfriend's family but, oh no~ His Italian dad is weird and behind the times kind of missed the mark.

So did putting the Barbie (2023) teaser in front of this movie. Not like I'm a prude (you all know me as almost anything but), but watching the 'I'll beach you off!/Not if I beach you off first' exchange in a theater with little kids on either side of me seemed like kind of a misfire.

Disney's live-action Little Mer-- I can't even be bothered to type the whole thing out.

And I just found it really weird that Illumination has a second movie coming out this year that they put a trailer in for, but the actual movie wasn't even present that much in its own promotion?

To explain better: the trailer was 'Illumination has brought you such wonderful family features as Despicable Me (long clip), The Secret Life of Pets (long clip), Sing (long clip), Minions (long clip), and Super Mario Bros. The Movie (long clip). Soon they'll release Migration (a few short clips of ducks flying and hiding under a bridge)'

Part 2: Thoughts on the Movie Itself (Which will include some spoilers, so...)

Right off the top of the bat, yes: the movie does move very quickly. Now, for me? This wasn't a hindrance but it was to a degree where it was noticeable so I can see where legitimate movie reviewers are talking about when they mention it.

I like how the movie starts off with Mario and Luigi's plumbing commercial and first job. Builds into the 'regular Joe'/no one believes in them-setup. Though, fuck a duck, why is their family full of such assholes? 'Luigi would be able to get somewhere if you weren't always dragging him down', okay so let's just continue to work for a guy who was a douche to him. Cool, fine.

While Mario's initial walk with Toad upon reaching the Mushroom Kingdom was kind of 'eh' to me, I love how the Mushroom Kingdom was handled: bright, active without being spastic, and allowed the setting itself to narrate rather than having the characters go 'And this is a store! And this is the road! And this is how we get money!' Like a lot of adaptations can fall into.

Peach was fine. I literally have no idea why people were trying to create discourse about her portrayal in this movie. She's not some emasculating girlboss, she's not 'Daisy wearing pink'; she's a competent monarch who just happens to be able to platform and ride a motorcycle.

Also, good on the writers for executing things where you can interpret Peach having a thing for Mario but they could also just be really close friends (kind of like Judy and Nick at the end of the first Zootopia film).

I love how we were all worried about Chris Pratt's voice-acting 'just being Chris Pratt' when, in reality, what we needed to worry about was D.K. because ay-my-me is that performance 'Just Seth Rogen'.

Jack Black definitely had the most fun with this movie. I can't believe they okayed the 'Peaches' song...

Why was Lumalee a Nihilist? Like, I'm not even mad but that was such a strange choice.

The musical score was good. Replacing the original music made for the Jungle Kingdom intro with "Take on Me" was a bit of a miss. Also, please: credit the actual composers, not just "'Song' from 'Game'"

However, even with all of these praises, I do have to detract a point for one crucial misfire:

They really couldn't have had Mario and Luigi do their finishing blow while saying 'So long, eh Bowser?' As a perfect referential send-off? For shame...

Final Rating: 8.75/10

I wanted a good time that celebrates the Mario franchise with great information and for someone to be there to whack Illumination in the head whenever they tried their bullshit... And that's what I got!

Everything You Should Know About Princess Peach: Showtime!

After waiting over 18 years for a new leading role, the stage is set for everyone’s favourite video game royalty to take centre stage in Princess Peach: Showtime! Peach finally gets her own spinoff again, the first one since 2005’s Super Princess Peach on the DS, a natural progression to the more active heroic roles she’s taken in some of the more recent Super Mario games. No longer the damsel in distress, Peach is ready to take off on her own adventure, with her own new allies against her own new antagonist! Showtime is coming to a Nintendo Switch near you on March 22nd, but before then, read on for a handy collection of everything we’ve learned about the game from various trailers and teasers. Actors, take your places - it’s time for a show-stopping performance!

Characters & Plot - Casting Call! The star of the show is, of course, Princess Peach, ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom, longtime ally of the Mario Bros. (when she isn’t in need of rescue, anyway). Attending a strange new theatre show that has popped up out of nowhere, the Sparkle Theatre, Peach finds herself trapped when the theatre is attacked and overrun by the Wicked Grape (above; yes, Peach’s new villain is named Grape). Grape and her minions, the Sour Bunch, take over the theatre and start terrorising the theatre’s remaining staff, the lightbulb-shaped Theets. Stella, the guardian fairy of the theatre, teams up with Peach to bring the fight to Grape and her troupe, retake the theatre and save the day! With a new power dubbed Sparkle, Peach and Stella can aid the Theets and fight off the Sour Bunch, restoring the Sparkle Theatre back to normal, one act at a time - the show must go on!

Gameplay Basics The game features 2.5D sidescrolling levels, with each level portrayed as a stage play. Peach can attack enemies and interact with stage props and Theets with help from Stella, using her ribbon like a whip or grapple. The gameplay shifts genres from stage to stage - the first level revolves around hack-and-slash platforming, followed by cooking minigames of all things in the second level. Clue-sleuthing mystery-solving, sneaky stealth levels, rhythm games - there’s a level for everything, all depending on a central, thematic transformation Peach can use. Much like the Power Stars of Mario games, the main collectables of Showtime are Sparkle Gems. There are 10 Sparkle Gems per level, either rewarded for clearing certain parts of a level or beating challenges, or just hidden around the levels - so keep your eyes peeled! Near the beginning of each level, Peach can use Stella’s Sparkle power to transform into various different costumes, each with their own unique abilities and gameplay. Let’s take a look at them all, shall we?

Transformations The main attraction: Peach’s transformations! From left to right, we have Patissiere Peach, Ninja Peach, Kung-Fu Peach, Cowgirl Peach, Swordfighter Peach, Mighty Peach, Mermaid Peach, Dashing Thief Peach, Figure Skater Peach and Detective Peach. Swordfighter, Kung-Fu, Cowgirl, Figure Skater & Mighty Peach are all seemingly more combat-oriented transformations; Swordfighter with fancy fencing and dodging moves, Kung-Fu with more focus on fighting game-style attacks and combos, Cowgirl lassoing enemies and chasing them on horseback, Figure Skater, well, skating around and battling foes while constantly moving, and Mighty being able to fly about and battle enemies superhero-style with gadgets and super strength. Ninja and Dashing Thief Peach are more stealthy, with Ninja Peach hiding in the environment to sneak-attack unsuspecting enemies and Dashing Thief parkouring across rooftops and hacking security systems. Detective, Patissiere & Mermaid Peach are more utility-themed, minigame-centric transformations - search for clues, interview witnesses and gather evidence as Detective; create tasty treats in timed challenges as Patissiere; and direct fish to grab out-of-reach collectables and beat rhythm minigames with Mermaid’s singing. Each transformation has a specific stage centred around them; Showtime includes a Super Mario 64-esque hub level, with doors leading off from the main room to the actual levels. Each door is labelled with a symbol to represent whichever transformation that level is themed around, with the very first level starring Swordfighter Peach. Better start practising your dodging skills!

INTRODUCTORY POST!

Hello and Welcome to the Void Crew crossover!

This post is to detail some of the key information and characters who are part of Void Crew. This post is going to be updated as frequently as the story does. Here's a little description I think sums it up well:

"A group of unlikely friends team up and recruit new pals to try and save the multiverse."

Disclaimer(?): This crossover can get pretty wacky, and there's lots of characters too, from several different franchises/video games. There's also a few ships in this, and while one of them plays a role in the conflict, they're not key parts of the story. (I know some people aren't huge fans of shipping, so this is a disclaimer for them).

The story is going to be told on AO3, and this blog is going to mainly be adding extra information and talking about some of the characters interactions and relationships with each other. I'm also going to use it to keep people updated on when I post more chapters.

Have you ever thought/fantasised about being tickle milked before? So you’re strapped face down on a comfy padded bench, only your princess part and royal bag dangles through a little hole. Then some dastardly fiend starts to tickle tickle all over ever so gently over your royal area.

Ooh my gosh this ask~ you knocked me right out of teasing ticklees and into my giggling blushing ticklee space~

because yes, so very much. And for a few reasons that I can't help but confess because when I'm in ticklee mode I babble incessantly through my giggles usually revealing tickly secrets ~ so first, handjobs are like... ridiculously devastating to me, something about being held by someone's hand and manipulated that was under their eyes scrambles my senses and makes me a whimpering giggling mess.

Second, there's two videos on this sort of scenario that haunt me for how badly they wrecked me ~ there is an old clickchix clip named Massage Mistress where a guy is strapped down as one girl tickles and the other milks from below ~ and there is an amateur clip where a guy is in like a sling and he's being milked by a Venus machine as one teaser works his honeypot and a few others are watching and commenting.

And last and maybe most embarrassing ~ on my last tickle therapy session I was face down as my therapist was using makeup brushes, a luffa, and one of my waistbelts to tease and tickle my backside ~ and I had a super soft gigglegasm right there on the table ~ it's just something about being in that position~

Also I was sharing ideas with a dear friend recently and the thought of a further tease came up ~ being strapped face down for backside tickles, especially peach tickles, and there's a camera pointed right in my face feeding a large screen so my tickler can enjoy my giggly expressions all along the way ~

Assorted Thoughts On The Super Mario Bros. Movie Trailer

Yesterday’s release of the teaser trailer for Nintendo and Illumination Entertainment’s long-in-gestation Super Mario Bros. animated film unsurprisingly posted a whole host of Disk Horse, up to and including the voice cast, which includes celebrities like Chris Pratt and Jack Black as Mario and Bowser, among many others. Since these are among my favorite subjects to endlessly pontificate on, here’s a list of a various thoughts I had on the trailer and various flavors of opinions being tossed around:

-In terms of the trailer itself, I was quite suitably impressed! I was skeptical of the ability to thread the needle between the requirements of an American family film and the more freewheeling Japanese whimsy of the Mario franchise at large. Especially since, well, the last time we tried, we got 1993′s Super Mario Bros., an infamously bizarre boondoggle that seemed to think kids really wanted to see a cyberpunk dystopian version of the Mushroom Kingdom. Not helping is that Illumination is fairly hit or miss as a studio. The first Despicable Me remains an enjoyable outing (though I prefer that year’s Megamind in terms of a supervillain reformation story), and I liked Sing quite a bit more than I thought I would, largely thanks to Garth Jennings applying his history as a music video director to animation in ways I thought were quite novel. But on the whole, they exemplify much of what I dislike about American family films: loud, frenetic, barely letting the audience have a breath, and when they DO try and slow down and be dramatic, it rarely works in the same deft way that their competitors have made a stock in trade. In particular, I will never forget or forgive the complete fuckup that is the film version of The Lorax, one of the worst major animated features of the past decade.

-By contrast, directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic of Teen Titans Go fame (or infamy, depending on your POV) seem to have succeeded quite well at showing off a slightly gentler fantasy adventure vibe based on this glimpse. The primary focus on a singular sequence-Bowser’s invasion of the penguin kingdom-is smart, building tension with his arrival and then decimation, balancing things well with comedy beats like the penguins’ ineffectual snowball throwing. Even the penguin king (Khary Payton, likely doing a favor for his TTG buddies) comes off as a distinct character with the contrast between his regal manner and diminutive design. And the transition to Mario landing in the Mushroom Kingdom (seemingly going back to his original backstory of being a plumber from New York rather than a native), then meeting Toad is artful. Toad himself, played by a pitched-up Keegan Michael-Key, gets a funny moment that is refreshingly non-obnoxious, and we get a quick tease of Luigi (Charlie Day, perfect casting, no notes) running in fear from a bunch of Dry Bones into a gothic castle.

-Bowser himself is just fucking awesome and is very likely to be the best thing about this film. I had already been onboard for Black’s casting because he’s proven to be an excellent voice actor in the past with starring roles like Po in the Kung Fu Panda franchise. What pleasantly surprised me here that he’s thoroughly committing to a monster-y growl as Bowser rather than just using his normal voice. And he’s quite menacing in a way I’ve never quite heard from him before, booming and throwing his considerable weight around. I’m eager to see how he balances that with Bowser’s more comedic side, especially as relating to his amorous intentions towards Princess Peach. (Also, he’d better have a proper Villain Song)

-Which brings us to the other casting, namely Chris Pratt as Mario, who only gets two quick lines here. I was as confused as anyone by the casting at first, but his initial showing here has me more convinced he can pull off the creators’ vision for the part. Namely, he seems to be applying a faux New York accent rather than attempting to imitate Charles Martinet’s high-pitched iconic Italian squeakiness. I think this is a good acting decision on multiple fronts. I can’t picture that voice working well across the space of a feature film if we are meant to take Mario seriously as a character, and going for a lighter accent is easier to keep up across a full performance.

-Of course, this is hardly the only reason his casting was met with controversy and derision. Pratt, once a darling of the internet for projects like Parks & Recreation and Guardians of the Galaxy, has become more divisive in recent years due to both his acting limitations being exposed in other films and some apparently poor social views due to being both Christian and a member of a homophobic California church called Hillsong. Pratt himself has not said much on the matter beyond some slightly lunkheaded comments about Hollywood not being interested in blue-collar action movie protagonists. Now, as a queer guy myself, I certainly don’t like this about his life, but since he has not been an openly hateful presence to my knowledge (I don’t even know if he still attends Hillsong), it’s been easier to ignore. He has also been defended by his Guardians director James Gunn (who famously has a “no assholes on set” rule) and his Jurassic World co-star Bryce Dallas Howard, who recently revealed he helped negotiate an equal salary for her on those films. I don’t begrudge anyone who looks askance at him for his associations, but to me at least, this is not a situation like Jared Leto, who is both a weak/limited actor at this point in his career AND an asshole diva who may also be a cult leader via his shitty band.

-And there’s the other side of this, which is the actual talent scale. Like many actors who settle into screen star personas, Pratt has decided on “goofy manchild action hero” being his stock in trade for the most part. This is reflected in aforementioned roles like Guardians (where a frequent part of Quill’s character development is trying and not always succeeding to grow past those tendencies), as well as his voice acting roles like Emmet in The Lego Movie and Barley in Onward (a role that would have arguably been played by, well, Jack Black ten years ago). I don’t think this in and of itself is a problem, especially if they are pitching Mario to be an everyman protagonist. And let’s be honest, that’s at least SOMETHING compared to his current status as a monosyllabic mascot. Much like his Sega counterpart Sonic the Hedgehog, you need a little more meat to chew on in a feature film context. I think Pratt has done well in these roles (Onward in particular has some real heartbreaking moments thanks to his interplay with Tom Holland) and has thus proven he can hang in with a lead role that fits this context, as this Mario seems to be.

-Finally we come to the last part of the debate: whether Pratt should be playing this role at all compared to Martinet, who has paid his dues for over 25 years as the official voice of this character. I have no issue with Martinet; he has fulfilled that task admirably as well as offered more ambitious work as characters like Paathurnax in Skyrim. And he seemingly has a cameo in this film, which could net him more visibility and appreciation. Career voice actor Kevin Michael Richardson also has a role as Kamek, Bowser’s court wizard, in the film, so it doesn’t seem like that side of the industry is being ignored entirely (esp. since, as said, Horvath and Jelenic work quite extensively with actors like Payton and Richardson). But it has opened up the debate about picking high-profile celebrities compared to career VAs, who often do a lot more work and even now don’t always get the recognition they deserve. Let me be clear on my own standing: I adore voice acting and voice actors of all stripes. I consider some like the aforementioned Richardson, the king of kings Mel Blanc, Rob Paulsen, Frank Welker, Matthew Mercer, Cree Summer, Eric Bauza, and Laura Bailey to be among my personal icons and heroes. They absolutely deserve credit, respect, and proper pay for what they do.

-However. I think that we are in a place now where we can admit that many on-camera celebrities have developed the ability to give good performances even if they are often tapping into a pre-existing persona. It is a different skillset to only use your voice as opposed to appearing on-camera, but I have always thought that how this is spoken of makes it sound impossible for all but a select few like the late Robin Williams in groundbreaking performances like the Genie in Aladdin. And I don’t believe that is the case. I think voice acting is a broad range that can support different styles depending on the project, and that is not always “cartoon” acting where one is trading on an ability to do various exaggerated over-the-top accents and character types. Look at an actor like Kevin Conroy, who transitioned effectively from on-camera work because he gave psychological realism and weight to an iconic character like Batman. In both that and much of his other VA work, he is not doing “cartoon” acting, but finding the character within his natural speaking voice. Thus, an actor sounding “like themselves” can have its proper place depending on what the requirements of the story and character. While it is true that some actors have not appreciated this difference (such as Chris Rock infamously bragging that it was “easy” to play the zebra Marty in the Madagascar film series), I think we have come a long way from misbegotten projects like DreamWorks’ Shark Tale, where celebrities like Will Smith played pale imitations of themselves married to ugly-as-sin character designs.

-This may be a little off-topic, but I do think this has also improved things for diversity in its own way. The American voice acting scene has generally been majority white even for characters of color for much of its history, and this has often led to ugly burlesques and racial caricatures created with little regard for those characters’ actual lived experiences. Many have spoken of the difficulty of breaking into the industry because of these biases, as well as feeling typecast in “ethnic” roles rather than being allowed to explore a full range as an actor. (I will not get into the issue of POC actors themselves playing characters of different races, as I don’t think that is the same thing, nor do I feel qualified to speak on behalf of actors who do this) This has improved significantly in recent decades even if we still have a long way to go, and I think part of that can be attributed to not always relying on the primary voice acting talent pools. Take a film like Encanto, which has a mix of live-action celebrities with extensive VA experience (Stephanie Beatriz, John Leguizamo) and many Hispanic actors making their animation debuts like Jessica Darrow as Luisa. Because of this, there is a real authenticity to their performances that aids the cultural focus on Colombia in the film. I don’t know that you get that unless you think outside the box; indeed, Beatriz herself was considered for Luisa before the film crew met her and discovered she’s much more like Mirabel in real life compared to her other, more deadpan roles.

All of this is to say that ultimately, I’m just another guy with an opinion. If you don’t like Pratt or his casting as Mario, that’s your prerogative. I just like keeping an open mind, and we’ll see how things shake out next April.

oh yeah i saw the mario movie last night. i dont have much to say about it? it was fine. it wasnt bad, i didnt expect it to be bad. just alright, and it was. all i cared about was jack black bowser tbh. and ya know what- even that was alright. i love jack black, he played bowser well, but i didnt really find any of the characterization of bowser, or anyone for that matter, to be all that good. (esp peach).

but actually you know what i DO have to talk about??? trailers. specifically Illuminations trailer for Migration. okay, holy shit. okay.

i randomly saw the teaser quite a while back on a twitter ad, was like "huh, why havent i seen any promos for this one?" took a look back then and was like... ok interested because this seems very different from Illuminations usual thing, but there is NOTHING to go off in this teaser. ducks migrating? they have troubles? is that it? it was just the less than a minute teaser.

so in the theater last night this trailer starts up and opens with a clips of the fist Despicable Me and im thinking oh is it another of those? is it some kinda rerelease in theater? then the video goes on to say "coming from the creators of" [lists of EVERY movie of theirs including Pets, Minions, Mario, Grinch etc] and im like ok wow this sure is a LOT of build up.

and THEN..... its the Migration "trailer" aka the short teaser. You can actually see just what I'm describing here. what the hell kind of set up is that. do they not like this movie? it almost feels like they know its different. and that no one is going to care unless they remind everyone what else they made. theyre going to fall into the typical "hm we made a movie thats weird and not our usual. lets NOT promote it and make it flop". im intrigued because it is different. i want to see this because it looks unlike their normal stuff. why the hell do corps do this thing where they take the Weird and do nothing to help it? id love a silly animated movie about ducks migrating. the art in the trailer looks really nice. but im just waiting for this movie to flop and never be heard of again.

My thoughts on The Super Mario Bros. Movie - First Look and Teaser Trailer

When I became a fan of Mario games a decade ago, I only started collecting merchandise such as apparel and toys, and I researched it on the internet that Mario also exists in animation and live-action shows and movies. I really want to see Mario on television or in the big screen, and it became a reality.

Last October 4, Nintendo posted this teaser image for the upcoming Mario movie. The first thing comes to my mind after seeing this was inspired by Super Nintendo World in Universal Studios Japan. They also include references everywhere, such as Yoshi's egg, the blocks, and Peach's Castle which now takes higher above the hills. Mario seems like to have a little style modification, as well as the toads.

And for the trailer that was shown today at New York Comic Con 2022, it totally looks like a brand new Mario game, but in fact, it's a movie and loving it so far. Jack Black's Bowser voice is good like those regular villainous voices in animated movies, while Chris Pratt's Mario is amazing. I think he's got the Brooklyn accent again like from the TV series. The visuals are enchanting, from Bowser's appearance, Luigi being afraid, and Mario and the adventurous Toad exploring the Mushroom Kingdom.

I never knew about Mario in other media in my childhood days, but I enjoyed the video games that makes me a part of it. As an avid Nintendo and Mario fan, I'm happily looking forward to see The Super Mario Bros. Movie when it premieres in movie theaters.

Channel AG's Famous Contents

Channel AG is AG's YouTube channel. This is THE place for AG content. Over the years, the channel has seen its fair share of iconic contents and here's a list of a few:

Moxy's Taco Tour

When Moxy went on tour with 127, during the U.S. leg, there was nothing she was more excited for than food

Tacos, Pasta, Burgers, Pizza without corn!! Moxy was ready for it all.

She planned to eat one food in every country they went to but she asked czennies what she should eat and they sugggested tacos.

Moxy fielded restaurants from fans in every city except Chicago because she had a restaurant in mind already

At every place, she filmed herself eating the same order to maintain some scientific integrity.

The day Moxy filmed at her restaurant pick in Chicago. The AG leader couldn't contain her excitement. She was on bubble for hours texting about these tacos

At every other place, she tried to not seem like a pig and eat a lot but she couldn't even contain herself here. She order six steak tacos, three chicken tacos and a small fry.

Any anti's that tried to shame Moxy for her order were quickly shut down by NCTzens everywhere

Moxy's cameraman for this series posted a picture once they were done shooting complementing Moxy's treatment of her staff. Moxy paid for everyones meals at every restaurant. Anytime fans recognized her, She politely acknowledged them

At the restaurant in Atlanta, The waitress was a fan and freaked out when she saw Moxy. the cameras caught it all and fans couldn't shut up about Moxy interaction with the fan.

Bullet Journaling With Juno | February 2018 Spread

Before Channel AG was called Channel AG, it was called Ladies of NCT.

Any pre debut content was located on this channel. When the name was changed, all the previous videos were gathered into a playlist called Ladies of NCT.

Moxy, Juno and Aurora all made content for the channel. So did Hannah (but strangely SM kept the original three girls and Hannah separate until AG debuted)

Juno usually filmed herself scrapbooking or decorating her bullet journal every month. She usually stuck to a specific color scheme for a year. For the year of 2018 she picked gold, peach, pink and red

When this video released, fans were confused by Juno choice of month theme. It's was black on black. During the video she was strangely giddy when usually she's calm and soothing

Fans figured out why when the teasers for Boss were released and she was included in lineup. Juno's name trended for hours with fans excited to see the girls finally debut

Say Ok Music Video

The music video released with a making of video. They filmed this to celebrate Something Like A Party reaching one million views

The members planned this video themselves. Everyone had a job. Aurora picked the shooting location. Juno picked the costumes. Hannah was in charge of the choreography and Moxy directed.

Aurora chose a beachside property with a sunset view that left her awestruck.

Juno chose all white for the dance outfit. Juno made sure to pick outfits all her girls would be comfortable with.

Hannah worked in some hula moves into the choreography. Her dance while simple didn't lack the emotion that's built into Say Ok. AG managers reviews her choreography and unanimously voted a yes for it

Moxy worked on the story in one night. The video would follow all the members as they party with their friends on the beach well into the night. All the members will have their eye on a guy with their group of friends.

On the film day, the AG members were nervous. They couldn't even joke around. they all wanted the video to go well and without problems. the editors were on their games complementing the girls and being in awe of their seriousness

The video was released the day after SLAP reached a million views. It Went VIRAL. Fans couldn't stop talking about harmonies and the member's acting for days. This song won back a lot of fans who were turned off by the bubblegum pop~ness of SLAP

Aurora's Sweet and Sentimental 16

The year AG made their official debut it was Aurora's 16th birthday. The whole group made a big deal for the entire year. The hyungs couldn't stop bemoaning about the lost of their final kid becoming a teenager (even though she's been a teen since 13, its ok just ignore them.)

All the members planned a huge surprise and with the help of the company they were able to pull it off.

Moxy, Juno and Hannah were giving control of the company card and given the orders 'Spare no expense.' And the girls took that personally.

The company had seen Aurora grow up before their eyes. All the managers and teachers were proud of her and wanted to make this birthday as big as possible.

The girls planned the emo party of Aurora's dreams. Her colors were Black, white and purple(Auroras secret favorite color). All the members were instructed to dress like its was the 2000's and they were in their all black phase. Johnny and Mark helped the boys find appropriate clothes

Aurora was distracted by lessons the whole day while the girls oversaw the party set up at Aurora home. The entire set up was filmed but the final reveal was off the charts. The entire first floor was decked out in black decor, splashes of white and purple cut threw brightening the place a bit.

Word spread around the SM building and before they knew it, idols in full costume descended on Aurora home right before she arrived. NCT were surprised to see how many people wanted to celebrate Auroras birthday. They all brought presents (Boa even sent something because she couldn't be there in person)

When Aurora arrived lead by her members, she burst into tears at the sight of the people there to celebrate with her. She couldn't believe how many people truly cared and wanted to celebrate her.

The rest of the video was filled with clips of how SM idols party. The music was a strange mix of pop punk and kpop. All the people went dancing and singing. At one point the entire party were singing/shouting the lyrics to Rising Sun. In between the clips were voiceovers well wishes for Aurora birthday. The last one played was one from Moxy and Mark

At the end of video, after the party goers left, NCT sat with Aurora and her mom with one last present. Aurora kept trying to guess what it was but she could never guess the surprise waiting for her. Tears flowed for her eyes when her dad and his family walked thru the door.

It had been years since the two had seen each other face to face. Aurora ran into her fathers arms, sobbing. The last moment the cameras caught was Auroras family surrounding the two. The NCT members and cameramen left the house silently, leaving the family to have a private reunion

Aurora uploaded pictures of her and her family after the video debuted.
