Most peat moss (And sphagnum moss) sold in the US is strip mined from peat bogs in Canada. First, the bog is drained, then vegetation is removed. Then the peat is harvested, dried, packaged and shipped.

The process destroys the bog ecosystem and releases Co2 into the atmosphere. Don't buy peat products or products containing peat. Use compost or coco coir.

No houseplant is worth the death of entire ecosystems.

Actually she's just rather shy and keeps to her more extroverted youngest sibling Sunflower's side who helps her express herself.

They often go gathering for additional food together.

Things Accomplished

Applied fertilizers, vermiculite, perlite, and peat moss to beds 1-9

Mulched 3/4 of leaves from the front yard

Notes

Don’t have enough soil in beds 1-9; too much organic matter

The mulched leaves were enough to fill 1.5 compost bins

Vermiculite was very fine, should probably get something coarser next time

Got the exact amount of perlite needed (4cu ft)

Will likely need to order 9cu yd of soil in the spring
