random kind of awful idea but i still find extremely thought provoking

in a hyphothetical smash bros reboot, instead of pokemon, have trainers with their pokemon be playable

not as in "a trainer stands behind in the background" but like

n gets in there. his jab has zoroark appear and start slashing opponents, his side special is zoroark using night slash. his up special is riding on sigilyph to fly upwards, his side special is klinklang appearing to grind anyone nearby, his down special is vanilluxe using ice beam, his final smash brings in zekrom and reshiram, but you're still playing as n, just using all his pokemon friends

cynthia, with garchomp at her side for most attacks. neutral special has lucario appear to charge up aura sphere and fire it, and smash attacks use lucario too. side special could be roserade using poison powder, up special could be togekiss as a recovery, aerial moves use milotic

helena (the hex maniac) shows up with tons of ghost types. tilt moves and grabs use mimikyu, side special is gengar popping out randomly to scare foes and stun them, up special is mismagius using teleport, down special is a chargable attack that throws bramblin to go rolling around to hit foes

cheryl could actually be an echo of peach as odd as it sounds! replace toad with chansey, have her up special and float use drifblim, down special pulls out burmys instead of turnips (and instead of mr saturn and bob-omb, rare chances of pulling out a pokeball or master ball)

a lot of people want eevee in smash but arent sure how itd work.. throw in penny! have her use all the eeveeloutions in various attacks, so they can all circle around one character with a complete focus on eevee!!

this wouldnt work because pokemon are infinitely more iconic than the human characters, but if a hyphothetical smash reboot wanted to do something reallyyy different, id love this!

Hello, Togekiss! Hope you've been having a fabulous February so far! I wanted to talk tropes for a bit, if you don't mind lending an ear.

A personal favorite of mine has always been "Typically Weak Character Suddenly Goes Ham On A Group Of Enemies And Totally Kicks Ass" (I don't know if it has a shorter name)

The example that always pops up in my mind is Dr. Flug in that Miss Heed episode. Up until that point he's always been the series' punching bag, but he he just snaps and goes absolutely berserk and I fricking love it when that happens!

Yes, that's a lovely trope!

I believe a more common name for the trope is, "crouching moron: hidden badass" if you want not only a shorter name, but the broadness gives you more examples.

Also, it still refers to a character that is usually portrayed as an idiot or a coward, until they rise to the occasion and when push comes to shove.

Hmm, neat example! I should watch Villainous.

Cosmo from Fairly OddParents fits like during the episode "Abra-Catastrophe". Michelangelo also fits in most TMNT interpretations as being the goofball of the group, but when the going gets tough he is a talented ninja. And the same can be said for Inspector Gadget when Penny and/or Brain are in real danger.

 She helps to solve problems, usually disagreements between two sides, by looking over everything carefully and trying to find a middle point or compromise that satisfies everyone. She gives encouragement to many people and advice, being wise over the years as she tries to put on a good face with dealing with people like business partners, acquaintances, and teenagers. While usually nice, Penny will take on a serious, curt, or confrontational demeanor depending on the situation, as with her region’s villainous team attempted to disturb the Lake Guardian’s Trio or attack the legendaries of her home, willing to step up and protect others.

Her main partner is Metagross who has the ability to Mega Evolve and the few who can silence Jagged and Felix from their arguments with a death glare just like it’s trainer who instead grabs them by their ears to stop them and is absolutely loyal to Penny and also has a soft side, liking children, just seriously don’t make her angry or else she’ll let her baby destroy you. Bustier learned that the hard way when pressuring Marinette to turn the other cheek of Chloe’s bullying and trying to get her to let Chloe travel with her. She entirely clamped up after just feeling the sheer fury coming off of them and just know when Penny’s mad since she’s difficult to anger  😡 you’ll went too far and just pray she won’t find you…

Penny does not have a crush on Jagged, seeing him as the crazy older brother and is very disappointed in his actions of abandoning a mom and her kids, it took the remaining dude champions (Felix and Dracoius) and girl champs to restrain her and ensure that she wouldn’t punch or choke 🥊 him to death, one of the few times where she is seen furious, you know that means business, Jagged was legit terrified and gives her gifts which didn’t work that well

Clefable: Della got her Clefable as a Cleffa. A gift from her parents at the age of 11, Della nicknamed this pokemon Phoebe. Though Phoebe was not Della’s first pokemon, the two are inseparable. When she turned 15, Phoebe evolved into Clefairy. It wasn’t until Della took the spear of selene and crashed on the moon that Phoebe evolved into Clefable.

Totodile: Della’s first pokemon. She picked the water starter when they met and he immediately bit Donald’s arm. She laughed and named him Chomper on the spot. The two were thick as thieves, and Chomper adores Della. At one point, Della noticed that he was refusing evolution, so she sought out an Everstone to give to him. Eventually she did find one, and Chomper’s well-being improved greatly. After Della laid her eggs, Chomper became the (self proclaimed) sole protector of them, biting anyone who came too close. This included Donald and Della. After Della went missing, Chomper refused to be separated from the eggs, and latched onto Donald the best way he knew how: Biting.

Minior: On the moon, there is no lack of minior. Della tended to leave them be, not wanting to cause any issues with any pokemon when she only had one with her. But one minior always followed her around. Eventually, Della decided to catch her. The minior allowed for this, and therefore was named Penny.

Cresselia: Della caught this pokemon near the end of her time on the moon. The Cresselia had been around the entire decade, watching from a distance and Della knew that it was protecting her. Before she returned home, she finally approached the Cresselia that seemed unsure. Della let it be known that she was more than happy to take her home with her, back to Earth. Cresselia agreed and was nicknamed Selene.

Espeon: Gifted to Della as an Eevee shortly after returning, Eevee had the nickname Ara. Ara has high energy, always bouncing off the walls and doesn’t like to be held much, as that requires sitting still. But she does love being petted. A lot of the time, she’ll start fights with Della’s other pokemon, but they’re always just playful. Eventually, Ara will evolve into Espeon.

Vulpix: On an adventure, Della found Vulpix injured in the woods. Never one to leave a pokemon behind, she took it to the nearest Pokemon Center to get it treated. Once it was healed and had rested, Della tried her best to find who the Pokemon belonged to. After realizing that he had no trainer, Della took him in, earning the nickname Polly.

B O N U S:

Della had 3 other Pokemon before she went to the moon.

Growlithe: A pokemon that Della encountered in the wild, it was very hard to catch up to him. When she did, they battled and upon his defeat, Della caught him and named him Jet. It took her awhile to earn his respect, but eventually she did. When she went missing as an adult, Jet latched on to Huey’s egg in particular, and does everything in his power to protect him. He is now officially on Huey’s team.

Togekiss: Della found her as a Togetic in the wild, but befriended her immediately. It was years before she officially caught Togetic, but upon capture, named her Turbo. It was only a few months before she went missing that she was able to evolve Togetic into Togekiss. After her disappearance, Turbo latched onto Dewey’s egg, and is now officially part of Dewey’s team.

Mimikyu: Della was given an egg from Goldie. Her Mimikyu was immediately named Rebel. After Della’s disappearance, Rebel latched onto Louie’s egg, and is now oficially part of Louie’s team.
