Pollrunner note: it’s been a while but I remember liking this musical, I had to sing the songs for choir.

Penny Pointer (Tangle Tower)

• she's a high-fashion murder suspect!

she's described by her designers to have a duality between a cool elegant femme fatale and a pouty petulant young woman, and appears very loud and energetic (or melodramatic depending on how you look at it!) she lives in a huge tower split down the middle between two families, with a deep history magical creatures and backstabbing - which she is directly involved in!

she has the facade of a very extravagant, melodramatic, jet-setting woman but is implied to be much much sadder and lonelier than she appears, it's even implied her fiance (whom she isn't even sure if she loves very much) is cheating on her with her cousin who also lives in the tower. though she states that her love for traveling is limited only by her love for her fiance, as he doesn't like to travel at all.

she's very involved with birds and researching them, and enjoys traveling to different places to study different bird species. she spends a majority of her time in her aviary which hangs off the side of the tower and looks like a giant birdcage. she even dresses like her birds with long sleeves that she swooshes around like bird wings, and wears one of her birds as a hat. in earlier designs she'd also have several birds on her person and interrupt conversations to chat with them <33

though she says she studies birds because it's the only thing she's good at :(

fun facts!: she's an aquarius and when shown a cassette tape combining three different shades of pink she appears offended

In hindsight, I feel bad that us Wicked fans, myself included, were so worried about Ariana Grande’s casting as Glinda. She’s been an actresses before, she’s classically trained, had already been on Broadway before, she has Kristin Chenoweth’s approval, among other things possibly. Why were we so worried? Maybe we were being unfair. I get we were worried about stunt casting, but the signs of her being a stunt weren't actually there. I feel like maybe if she weren't as well known—like she were only known as Cat Valentine up till the point in casting or something—fans wouldn't have been as upset or hard of her. Hell, maybe people would've been really excited and proud, but because she’s a well-known person people were rude, despite her seemingly having what it takes. And even though Taylor Louderman is super talented and seems nice enough, and I feel bad that she auditioned and didn't get the part, it was kinda low of her to like posts about Ariana being a stunt cast. I get her pain, but there was no need for that. And people argue that Dove Cameron would've been a better casting choice, and I agree she also would've been a good alternative, and others can have their own opinions, but I feel like some would’ve had a similar reaction if she was actually cast, just to a lesser degree, because people are never satisfied. I doubt she even wants that role specifically, as her newer image seems to be going against the Glinda type she was once set in most of the time. She wants to leave the Disney image of her behind right now. I myself was worried because of her performance in Hairspray Live felt more like just her singing songs from Hairspray, not her acting as Penny, and I didn't want the same for Glinda. But I realized now that the Wicked films are a much bigger deal than Hairspray Live and she’s always seemed much more passionate and serious about Wicked than Hairspray, even long before being cast as Glinda. And her acting and singing in Hairspray Live might’ve not even been her fault. I wouldn't be surprised if the people behind Hairspray Live wanted her to be more Grande than Penny to draw in more viewers.

It really should not have gotten to the point where people were trying to prove she was lip-syncing in that set recording of “No One Morns The Wicked” that was leaked (?) this year. I'm not even a big Ariana Grande listener and I knew immediately that that was her voice. I knew for a fact it wasn't Kristin’s—come on, folks! I mean some of y’all were acting like this was another Mean Girls + Cameron Dallas situation, it was never that bad.

Next time this happens let's hold off on the stunt accusations till there’s actual evidence that that’s the case. And let’s remember to treat celebrities with kindness and fairness in situations where it's deserved; I get they're privileged, and Ari is not a perfect person, but they're people too, and we should be fair.

• she’s a pun on Money Penny from James Bond but we didn’t know that playing these games as kids, she was just the voice of reason keeping Spy Fox on track for his missions. she’s basically the only reason anything gets done and has probably saved Spy Foxs ass innumerable times. always clad in a black turtleneck which is so her. also the puns from these games shaped me as a person in fun and totally normal ways
