The Power of Nirvana's "Pennyroyal Tea"

For me, Nirvana's "Pennyroyal Tea" stands out as one of their absolute best. It starts with this incredibly melodic tune that draws you in, and just when you're comfortably swaying along, the guitars and drums kick in with that raw energy Nirvana is known for. Kurt Cobain's raspy vocals and those extended verses make you want to bang your head and lose yourself in the music. It's a grunge gem that never gets old, and every time I listen to it, I'm reminded of why I fell in love with Nirvana in the first place!

The song was due to be released as the third singlefrom In Utero in April 1994, but the single was recalled following Cobain's death the same month.The song's title refers to the tea made from boiling the leaves of the plant Mentha pulegium, or pennyroyal, which is used as an abortifacient, among other things, in traditional medicine. #Curiosidade No filme "#Highway" (no Brasil "#FugaDesenfreada") de 2002, o personagem Jack Hayes (#JaredLeto) é pego na cama com a mulher do mafioso Burt Miranda (#MarkRolston) em Las Vegas e decide - aconselhado por seu amigo Pilot Kelson (#JakeGyllenhaal) - fugir para a cidade de #Seattle. No caminho, a dupla encontra uma garota em apuros chamada Cassie (#SelmaBlair) que pega carona com eles. Mais pra frente os tres se deparam com uma caravana de roqueiros a caminho da vigília de #KurtCobain. Quando o filme ainda estava em fase de produção cogitava-se gravar algumas cenas no memorial de Kurt. Para isso, a vigília teria que ser "recriada" e filmada com os personagens do filme. A ideia foi deixada de lado pelo trabalho todo que a cena (que não era relevante na trama) daria. Para facilitar as coisas, cenas reais da vigília foram mostradas junto de outros pequenos "tiros" que foram gravados para o filme. Outro fato interessante é que o titulo original do longa era: "A Leonard Cohen Afterworld", como no trecho da musica "#PennyroyalTea" - "Give me a #LeonardCohen afterworld" - , lançada no álbum #InUtero em 1993. "Highway" foi escrito por #ScottRosenberg e dirigido por #JamesCox.
