On Invoking and Banishing Pentagrams
In previous posts, I've spoken about the LRP but haven't gone into detail about how you should be drawing the pentagrams.
I have good reason for this--if you know how the LRP works, you likely already also know the Western Esoteric Tradition's method of invoking and banishing pentagrams.
If you're not familiar, please see the following scan from Thea Sabin's Wicca for Beginners:
Each invoking pentagram moves towards the element in question and each banishing pentagram moves away from the element in question.
Notice also that the two "higher elements" (Fire and Water) and the two "lower elements" (Air and Earth) share the same pattern. In the invoking form, Fire and Water are both clockwise, while Air and Earth are counterclockwise. These directions are reversed for banishing.
But there are inherent problems in how these are drawn, in my opinion. You can't invoke Air without banishing Water; you also can't invoke Water without banishing Air. In addition, are we not normally taught that clockwise invokes, while counterclockwise banishes?
This is why I propose an alternate way of drawing the pentagrams. Let's take a look at where the elements sit on one:
This means that Earth invoking would start in the bottom-left corner and move towards the topmost point (Spirit). In Earth banishing, you'd move towards the top-right point (Water). The same basic pattern holds true for each element.
This opens a fifth pentagram to us: Spirit. In the Western Esoteric Tradition, Spirit invoking is usually from Earth to Water; Spirit banishing is from Fire to Air.
In this new method, Spirit invoking would start at the topmost point and move towards Fire, while Spirit banishing would move towards Earth.
Where can we use these pentagrams? Take a look at this example of a Hellenic Ritual of the Pentagram. When you draw the pentagrams above and below you, you'd use Spirit invoking or banishing depending on which ritual you're doing.
A word of caution--use the same pentagram for both above and below you, otherwise you'll have an imbalance (e.g., an invoking pentagram within a banishing ritual).
I'm willing to bet good money I'm not the first one to think of this. I'm even willing to bet that this method has already been published.
That doesn't mean it's not valid--to the contrary, it means that others are coming to similar conclusions independently. And who knows? Maybe it's already a competing model of pentagram drawing and I just don't know it yet.

Looking at Occult Symbols: Pentacles and Pentagrams
Perhaps the perfect place to start is by explaining with symbols are and why they are used: Symbols have been used for many thousands of years. They are a way of communicating meaning that can be understood by many people around the world. Symbols can be words, sounds, gestures, ideas, and images.
Next let us look at Occult Symbols; probably the two most used and seen occult symbols are the Pentacle and the Pentagram.
Pentacles and pentagrams are possibly the most powerful symbols in the occult and witchcraft worlds, and can be found throughout modern society, you may have seen them worn as jewellery, on clothes, tattoos, on posters, banners and in magazines. You will also come across them in occult books and in New Age shops. I have also seen these symbols on the TV and in advertisements, in-face pentacles and pentagrams are quite common symbols today.
Let us look at the two symbols, physically they are very similar. Pentacles are an up-right five-pointed star within a circle and the Pentagram is also a five-pointed star within a circle, but it points downwards.
In occult symbolism both the Pentacle and Pentagram have spiritual meaning and properties.
